Pak vs NZ: 'Bradman of T20 cricket' - Shaheen gets HILARIOUSLY TROLLED for his comments on Rizwan

Pakistan pace bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi has shared a cryptic Instagram story amid the ongoing captaincy sage. Afridi was removed as the T20I captain after only four months at the helm, leading to unrest within the team, according to multiple reports.

Shaheen shared the story on his social media handle on Friday (Apr 5), seemingly taking a swipe at the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and other high-ranking officials who sabotaged his captaincy tenure.

"Never ever put me in a position where I have to show you how cruel and ruthless I can be. Don't test my patience. Because I might be the kindest and sweetest person you've ever met, but once I reach my limit, you'll see me do the things that no one thought I was capable of doing," read the Instagram story.

Afridi's rather cryptic statement comes days after he denied reports that claimed he had backed Babar as the new captain. The PCB statement following Babar's reinstatement as the captain stated that Afridi was prepared to help the batter "on and off the field" and that the team was playing as "one".

'Don't test my patience': Shaheen Afridi shares cryptic Insta Story amid ongoing Pakistan captaincy saga

Star Pakistan seamer Shaheen Shah Afridi is unhappy and dissatisfied with the lack of communication and clarity over his recent sacking as the T20I captain. Afridi met PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi on Monday (April 1) in Kakul, where the Pakistan team is undergoing a fitness-related training camp, with reports suggesting that no constructive talks took place. Drama grows within PCB surrounding captaincy saga as Shaheen Afridi’s concerns not addressed

Shaheen was appointed the captain in the shortest format post Pakistan's horror run in the 2023 ODI World Cup, after which Babar Azam was sacked from the top post across formats. Since then, the pacer has led in only five T20Is, versus New Zealand, where he managed only one win. Recently, there have been reports of Shaheen's sacking, which irked his father-in-law Shahid.

Talking to the media in Karachi, as quoted by PTI, Afridi said, "I think that if you have appointed someone as captain (Shaheen) and given him the responsibility then give him time as well." He further opined, "The biggest problem with our cricket is that our system changes whenever the faces change in the board. Whoever comes thinks whatever he is doing is the best for Pakistan cricket."

Afridi added, "If you change the captain then either the decision to appoint him was wrong or the decision to change him now is wrong." He even shared his take on the appointment of a foreigner as Pakistan coach but said the person should be a high-profile individual like Andy Flower (with a great track record). In this regard, he said, "I believe that even if you bring in a foreign coach, the staff under him should be Pakistani so that our people can also move forward and improve their skills."

‘Biggest problem is...’: Shahid Afridi hits back at rumours of Shaheen being sacked as Pakistan T20I captain

Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, has formed a seven-member senior selection committee, including former stars like Mohammed Yousuf, Abdul Razzak and Asad Shafiq, at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. While addressing the media, Naqvi hinted at a change in the leadership group, meaning Shaheen Afridi’s position as the T20I captain came under a dark cloud.

Naqvi also said that this committee was formed to select the men’s national team for the international tours while confirming his non-interference in related matters.

"I have mandated the seven-member selection committee, consisting of four former Test players, with the powers to select the national men's teams for international cricket. I will not interfere with the working of the selection committee. They are experienced and professional in their domain and I am confident that they will do their job with dedication and honesty," PCB chairman Naqvi said.

As per reports, the PCB will name 27 players for the training camp with the Pakistan Army to be held in Kakul. The committee will determine the new leadership group after the camp.

Shaheen Afridi’s T20I captaincy in danger as PCB chairman hints at change in leadership

Pakistan all-rounder Shadab Khan is miffed with rumours suggesting that Shaheen Afridi is likely to be sacked as the T20I captain ahead of the T20 World Cup in June, in West Indies and USA. Shaheen replaced Babar Azam as the T20I captain after the ODI World Cup 2023, however, his start was awful as Pakistan lost the five T20Is to hosts New Zealand 4-1.

After Islamabad United entered the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024 final, to be held on Monday (March 18), the franchise's skipper Shadab reacted to reports suggesting Shaheen's removal. In a presser, he said that any captain needs time to settle in and constant changes in leadership group isn't ideal for any side.

Shadab said, "Even now, look, we've given Shaheen a series, and we're contemplating changing his captaincy. It shouldn't be like this because in the long term, one should be given a chance to captain properly according to his process, his method. Because we want to experiment, win series as well, which could lead to issues."

Shaheen Afridi to be sacked as captain before T20 WC? Shadab Khan miffed by rumours ahead of PSL final

Former Pakistan speedster Wasim Akram has slammed Shaheen Afridi for being predictable with the ball following his flop show in match 28 of the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024 edition. On Sunday (March 10), Shaheen-led Lahore Qalandars locked horns with Quetta Gladiators and lost the clash while defending a moderate 166. While Shaheen impressed with a blistering 34-ball 55, promoting himself at No. 5, but failed in his primary job. The Lahore captain returned with figures of 4-0-41-2; failing to defend 14 off the final over as his side bowed out of the playoffs race.

Akram feels Shaheen has become very predictable for the batters, with the new as well as the old ball. Talking on A Sports, the legend said, "Even with the new ball, we all were watching it together, he was bowling half volleys. He needs to understand that batsmen now have understood that the first two balls from Shaheen will be yorkers. In the death he will either bowl slower cutter or will on the stumps around the wicket. Batsmen are prepared for it now."

Former Pakistan team director Mickey Arthur, who was part of the side during their 2023 ODI World Cup debacle, has pointed out that instability in the team structure has resulted in players focusing on their performances and spots, rather than team performance. Arthur recently resigned from his post at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore.

In an interview with ESPN Cricinfo, Arthur stated, "When there's security within the environment, Pakistan is very good. When there's that insecurity, players start playing for themselves instead of the team because they're thinking of the next tour, and the next contract. That's a dangerous place to be in, and that's kind of where Pakistan cricket is now. And that's something that's very disappointing and sad for me."

He opined, "There's a massive amount of talent there, There are some world-class players, not just talented players. They're not given the support structure that they need to flourish."

Arthur added, "I still follow Pakistan cricket and I'll always follow it. But the vigour and thirst and passion I have for Pakistan cricket waned a little bit after that. To be brutally honest, I think Pakistan cricket is in a very disappointing place."

Former Pakistan team director Mickey Arthur, who was part of the side during their 2023 ODI World Cup debacle, has pointed out that instability in the team structure has resulted in players focusing on their performances and spots, rather than team performance.

And that's something that's very disappointing and sad for me." He opined, "There's a massive amount of talent there, There are some world-class players, not just talented players. They're not given the support structure that they need to flourish." But the vigour and thirst and passion I have for Pakistan cricket waned a little bit after that. To be brutally honest, I think Pakistan cricket is in a very disappointing place." Under Arthur's coaching, Pakistan won their last ICC title in the 2017 Champions Trophy. However, everything went downhill from thereon. He returned as the team director ahead of last year's ODI WC but the Men in Green continued to disappoint. Even after the World Cup, there have been wholesome changes in Pakistan cricket's setup.
Pakistan T20I skipper Shaheen Afridi has praised former skipper and batter Babar Azam for keeping the team hunt in all three T20Is despite the Men in Green ending up on the losing side. Babar scored a fifty in all three T20Is of the five-match series but couldn't get support at the other end. As a result, Pakistan now trail 0-3 in the series with two more T20Is to be played.

"I had also said earlier that Babar was not out of form. We cannot judge him based on a few innings. He has played three fine innings in three matches in the series. If there was another batter at the other end with Babar, we could have finished the game in our favour," said Afridi in the post-match press conference after the loss in third T20I in Dunedin.

Pakistan skipper Shaheen Afridi praises Babar Azam despite losing T20I series against New Zealand

Pakistan Team Director Mohammad Hafeez has backed the ‘management’s call’ to rest pace spearhead Shaheen Afridi in the third and final Test in Sydney, which they lost by eight wickets on Saturday. Hafeez said his duty goes beyond just ensuring the team's performance in any series, admitting taking care of players' well-being is also part of his job.

Speaking in detail on the reason behind resting Shaheen in the final Test, Hafeez said he had to be considerate about Afridi’s workload as the left-arm seamer had bowled the most number of overs from either side (in just two matches), more than anyone, even those who played all three Tests, with Australia’s Nathan Lyon being the second-most busiest bowler (having bowled 70 overs in total).

Hafeez added that when he approached Afridi after the second Test, his body was sore and he required time to get into his groove. The former captain also noted that he couldn’t risk Afridi’s fitness because of the busy cricketing calendar.

"He bowled really well in those two games and bowled the most," Hafeez said.

"When I asked him before the third Test, his body was sore. And I need to look after him more than anything."

"If someone thinks their body is sore and they can't deliver the best, we need to look after the career of the individual. I will never make a decision where a player can lose his career for six months or a year. It was a tough call but we made that decision for the betterment of the players. Because we cannot make that decision at the cost of a player's career,” the Team Director added.

‘I had to prioritise Afridi’s long-term career’ – Hafeez defends ‘team’s call’ to rest Shaheen in Sydney

Pakistan have opted to rest speedster Shaheen Shah Afridi for the final Test match against Australia as the two teams are set to lock horns in the final assignment of the tour. Pakistan have notably made two alterations to the side after the Boxing Day Test, with Imam-Ul-Haq getting dropped in favour of Saim Ayub. The visitors are already trailing 0-2 in the three-match series. However, considering World Test Championship (WTC) points are at stake, dropping Afridi could be a risk for them in the final outcome.

Having struggled with injuries in the last 24 months, game management has been a key factor in Afridi’s run in the team. Pakistan were beaten convincingly in the first two Test matches, but team director Mohammad Hafeez had backed his side for a resolute show in the Boxing Day Test. With the series already lost, team management has decided against using the injury-prone Afridi. Instead, they will play one extra spinner in the form of Sajid Khan who was called in as a replacement for injured Abrar Ahmed.

Sajid has not played for the national side since the 2022 tour of Australia and will have the opportunity to impress the selectors in the SCG Test. However, he was more effective in the second Test in Melbourne where he ended with figures of 2/85 & 4/76.

Australia won the toss and opted to bat first in the three-match Test series opener on Thursday (Dec 14) at Perth Stadium, Perth. PCB names Shan Masood as Test captain, Shaheen Afridi as T20I skipper after Babar's resignation

Pakistan men's cricket team's pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi on Saturday (Nov 4) registered an unwanted record against his name by bowling the most expensive spell by a Pakistan bowler in the history of the ODI World Cup. Shaheen completed his 10-over spell with dismal figures of 10-0-90-0 as New Zealand posted a mammoth 401-run total.

The 23-year-old was carted to all parts of the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru where Pakistan captain Babar Azam opted to bowl first after winning the toss. Notably, Shaheen's worst day in the cricket field came immediately after the match against Bangladesh where he became the fastest pacer to rack up 100 wickets, eclipsing Australia's Mitchell Starc.

Shaheen wrested the record for the most expensive spell from Haris Rauf who had finished with figures of 10-0-85-1, moments before the left-arm seamer's over. The previous record was held by Hasan Ali who conceded 84 runs while picking one wicket against Virat Kohli's India, back in the 2019 World Cup at Old Trafford in Manchester.

Shaheen was ineffective in the powerplay overs, where he usually picks the bulk of his wickets. New Zealand openers Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra were off the blocks in fine fashion and never allowed Shaheen to get in rhythm. As Shaheen struggled, the entire Pakistan bowling lineup had a stinker, allowing Ravindra to score his third century of the World Cup.

Babar's decision to blame for Shaheen's record?

In hindsight, Babar's decision at the toss proved to be a terrible one as the flat nature of the pitch meant that Pakistan bowlers got little to no assistance. It didn't help Pakistan's cause that the team opted to go into the contest with four pace bowlers while New Zealand took a diametrically opposite approach by fielding as many as four spinners.

Pakistan need to win this match to stay in contention for the top-4 spot. A defeat would mean a return ticket to home while a win would ensure that the team lives to fight another day.

As of the last update, Pakistan had managed 125 runs in 17 overs with Fakhar Zaman and Babar on the crease.

From poor fitness and fielding to PCB chaos: Decoding Pakistan's dismal run in ODI World Cup

The Pakistan cricket team is in shambles at the moment. In the ongoing ODI World Cup, Babar Azam-led Men in Green have lost three games in a row after winning their first two. Thus, the 1992 winners find themselves at the fifth position and have a herculean task to revamp their campaign. Ahead of their upcoming clash versus South Africa in the south Indian city of Chennai on Friday (Oct 27), former Pakistani spinner Danish Kaneria has made a big claim. Kaneria slammed the team's performance and alleged that Hasan Ali, who was drafted in the side after Naseem Shah's injury, is playing only due to friendships.

'The selections were based on friendships and personal relationships'

Speaking to Aaj Tak, Kaneria pointed out that Pakistan team’s World Cup selections were based on friendships and personal relationships.

He opined, "When the squad was announced, I was sure that this wasn't a well-balanced team. The selections were based on friendships and personal relationships. I knew that this team would struggle in the World Cup. They talk about everything but strategy. They needed to understand that the conditions in India will favor batting and spin. The selection was totally wrong."

Former spinner Danish Kaneria claims THIS player is in Pakistan team because of FRIENDSHIPS

Shaheen Afridi, Sarfaraz Ahmed and Mohammed Rizwan are being discussed as potential candidates to replace Babar Azam as Pakistan captain after the national side returns home post the ODI World Cup. There have been a lot of questions on Babar's leadership in the ongoing ten-team tournament with three successive defeats, with the latest coming against Afghanistan in Chennai on Monday (Oct 23).

It is being said that the change in leadership role could take place soon as Pakistan's chances of making it to the semi-finals of the ongoing ODI World Cup look bleak at the moment. The Men in Green are scheduled to tour Australia soon after the World Cup and plans for the 2024 T20 World Cup will be in full swing post the mega event in India. Thus, a new captain can be appointed sooner than later.

What are Babar's chances of staying captain?

"Only if Pakistan can stage a miracle and win all their remaining matches to qualify for the semi-finals of this World Cup does Babar stand any chance of surviving as captain and even then he might be relegated to skipper in just the red ball format," one reliable source close to the developments said, as per PTI.

"It is over for Babar because he has been given unbridled power and authority as captain and more importantly he has always had players of his choice in the team. Shaheen Afridi, Sarfaraz Ahmed and Mohammed Rizwan are being discussed as potential candidates to replace Babar Azam as Pakistan captain after the national side returns home post the ODI World Cup.

There has never been any attempt to reduce his authority and so he is now being held solely responsible for the Asia Cup and World Cup defeats," the source mentioned. Shaheen, Rizwan, Sarfaraz in line to replace Babar Azam as Pakistan captain post ODI WC: Report

Babar Azam-led Pakistan lost to Afghanistan by eight wickets in match 22 of the CWC 2023 edition on Monday (Oct 23) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Opting to bat first, the Men in Green posted 282 for 7 riding on fifties from Abdullah Shafique (58), skipper Babar (74) before Rahmanullah Gurbaz (65), Player-of-the-Match Ibrahim Zadran (87), skipper Hasmatullah Shahidi (48*) and Rahmat Shah (77*) took their side home in 49 overs.

After the shocking loss, Pakistan have been slammed left, right and centre by their former players as their progress to the next round rests on a knife edge. Rawalpindi Express Shoaib Akhtar, former Pakistan speedster, has reacted to his national side's loss and feels 'mediocre and average people' in Pakistan cricket setup have affected their growth.

“Keep bringing mediocre and average people. People have made a joke of brand building. It’s about building an institution that builds a brand. Now what do I say in this long debate?” Akhtar said on his YouTube channel.

ODI WC: 'Keep bringing mediocre and average people' - Akhtar FUMES after Pakistan loses to Afghanistan

Pakistan pace spearhead Shaheen Afridi failed to bring his A-game against India in the marquee World Cup clash in Ahmedabad the other night. The left-arm seamer has troubled top-order batters, including Rohit, with his steamy in-swingers before but couldn’t deliver on the big day. Former India legend Ravi Shastri tore into his performance, bashing him up-side-and-down.

Afridi was wayward with his line and length, let alone troubling the batters with his stock deliveries. From Shubman Gill to Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, everyone hammered him.

With Pakistan already defending a below-par total of 192 on a batting paradise at the Narendra Modi Stadium, their bowlers needed to deliver from ball one, which was not the case. Instead, the Indian batters had put their backs against the wall with superb knocks.

In the absence of Naseem Shah, Hasan Ali got an extended run in the XI, proving a tad expensive despite picking Kohli’s wicket.

While speaking with the host broadcaster Star Sports after India’s seven-wicket win, Shastri bashed Shaheen for a failed show when his team needed him the most, saying he is no Wasim Akram and there’s nothing too special about him.

"When Naseem Shah is not playing, and this is the quality of spin... Shaheen Shah Afridi is no Wasim Akram. He is a good bowler with the new ball and can pick wickets, but there is nothing special about him. He is only a decent bowler. He's no big deal. You have to accept the truth," Shastri told Star Sports.

‘Shaheen should’ve taken a leaf out of Bumrah’s book’

Jasprit Bumrah was the protagonist of India’s bowling in Ahmedabad, picking two for 19 in seven overs, including a maiden, earning himself a Player of the Match award. Though others also chipped in with timely wickets, Bumrah’s slower delivery to dismiss Rizwan on 49 was the talking point of the game.

Noting that Afridi bowled his usual lengths and didn’t think of taking a leaf out of Bumrah’s book on how to dismiss well-settled batters on this pitch, Shastri’s old mate and legend Sunil Gavaskar slammed him, saying,

“Clearly Pakistan did not learn anything because it was only towards the end when Shaheen bowled that cutter that got Rohit out. We would have thought that they would bowl the cutter even with the new ball. It is not written anywhere that the new ball has to be bowled at a certain pace. You can change it, but nothing of those sorts was seen from the Pakistan bowlers," mentioned Gavaskar.

Meanwhile, with three wins in as many games, India is sitting at the top of the points table with a better NRR ahead of New Zealand.

World Cup: He is good but nothing special about him: Ravi Shastri slams Shaheen Afridi following India bashing

Jasprit Bumrah starred with the ball for India in their convincing eight-wicket win over Afghanistan in match 9 of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 edition. Locking horns at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Wednesday (Oct 11), Rohit Sharma-led India restricted the Afghans to 272 for 8 riding on Bumrah's 4 for 39 -- his best figures in the World Cup -- before Hitman's sublime 131 and Virat Kohli's 55 not out took the home side to an easy win, with 15 overs to spare.

While Rohit walked away with the Player-of-the-Match award, many felt Bumrah played a very crucial role as well on a flat track. Ahead of the much-awaited India versus Pakistan showdown on Saturday (Oct 14) at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium, Ahmedabad, former Indian opener-turned-commentator Gautam Gambhir lauded Bumrah and made a big statement that there is a 'huge difference' between Shaheen Afridi and the Indian pacer.

"The way he dismissed Mitchell Marsh on that wicket (in the first game against Australia) and the way he dismissed Ibrahim Zadran, if there is a complete and most lethal bowler in world cricket, it is Bumrah. We compared Jasprit Bumrah and Shaheen Shah Afridi earlier; there is a huge difference," said Gambhir on Star Sports.

Gambhir further pointed out, "Tell me one fast bowler who can make such an impact in every phase. Bowlers bowl well either with the new ball or at the death but Bumrah has the same impact in the middle overs as he has with the new ball or the old ball."

Ever since his international return, Bumrah has been in top form. He came back to the Indian team during India's tour of Ireland in August after a long injury layoff (due to back issues). He has been among wickets in every game and would like to keep going forward in the remainder of the ODI World Cup at home.

CWC '23: Huge difference between Bumrah and Afridi, feels Gambhir before India vs Pakistan showdown

Former South Africa pacer Dale Steyn has picked up five fast bowlers across teams whom he expects to perform well in the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup. The quadrennial event starting four days later on October 5 is being held in India and the pitches are expected to help spinners more.

Steyn, nonetheless, believes that Shaheen Afridi from Pakistan, Kagiso Rabada from South Africa, Mohammed Siraj from India, Mark Wood from England and Trent Boult from New Zealand will be able to leave a mark in the tournament. Steyn made the prediction in a video released by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Instagram. Have a look at the video here:

No ill-will in dressing room: Pakistan captain Babar Azam slams rumours of rift ahead of CWC '23

On Friday (September 22), the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq announced the final squad for Babar Azam-led Men in Green for the upcoming ODI World Cup in India, which kicks off next month in early October. Contrary to reports suggesting Shadab Khan's omission, the white-ball vice-captain has retained his place despite an ordinary run in Asia Cup 2023. The one-time winners' squad comprises three travelling reserves whereas the likes of Hasan Ali, Abdullah Shafique, and leg spinner Usama Mir have been included, with young pacer Naseem Shah being ruled out with injury concerns.

Naseem suffered a shoulder injury during Pakistan's forgettable run in Asia Cup 2023. He was out of Pakistan's last Super Four game, versus Sri Lanka, and is now set to be out of action for a long period. Addressing the press, Inzamam said, "Naseem was injured, he was our main bowler and it was unfortunate. Hasnain has an ankle injury and is out injured and so is Ihsanullah."

On Hasan replacing Naseem, he opined, "If you see how Hasan Ali performed in the LPL, or other performances, he has performed better than most. He is an experienced bowler who has played big mega events for Pakistan and performed well in them. And when Naseem was ruled out, we needed someone who could bowl with the new ball. He bowls well with both old and new ball and is a team man. His presence lends energy to the team."

Moreover, bowling all-rounder Faheem Ashraf has also failed to make the cut. The Men in Green have kept two pacers in their reserves in the form of Mohammad Haris and Zaman Khan along with legspinner Abrar Ahmed.

Before the final squad announcement, there was a major development from the PCB setup with former captain Mohammed Hafeez resigning from the board's technical committee ahead of CWC 2023. He wrote on X, formerly Twitter, "I decided to leave Pakistan cricket technical committee. I served as honorary member. I would like to thank Zaka Ashraf sb for giving me this opportunity. Hasnain has an ankle injury and is out injured and so is Ihsanullah." On Hasan replacing Naseem, he opined, "If you see how Hasan Ali performed in the LPL, or other performances, he has performed better than most. He is an experienced bowler who has played big mega events for Pakistan and performed well in them. And when Naseem was ruled out, we needed someone who could bowl with the new ball. He bowls well with both old and new ball and is a team man. His presence lends energy to the team." 🚨 Our squad for the ICC World Cup 2023 🚨#WeHaveWeWill | #CWC23 pic.twitter.com/pJjOOncm56 — Pakistan Cricket (@TheRealPCB) September 22, 2023 × Moreover, bowling all-rounder Faheem Ashraf has also failed to make the cut. I m always available whenever Zaka Ashraf sb need my honest suggestions for Pakistan cricket. My best wishes for Pakistan cricket as always. Pakistan Zindabad". CWC 2023: Pakistan announce final squad for marquee event in India, Naseem Shah ruled out with injury concerns

A regular in the XI not a long time back, Pakistan's Shadab Khan is now said to get replaced by a newcomer in the side for the showpiece event in India starting October 5. The vice-captain had mediocre outings in the recently-concluded Asia Cup, picking just three wickets as Men in Green crashed out of the tournament in the Super Four stage.

The latest reports emerging from local media suggest chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq and Captain Babar Azam are contemplating including uncapped Abrar Ahmed as cover for Shadab in the CWC squad.

According to Geo News, Babar Azam is disappointed with the performances of some seniors, with close friend Shadab being one of them.

With Pakistan already facing injury issues, including that of Naseem Shah, who is likely to miss the World Cup due to a shoulder injury, and Haris Rauf, who suffered pain in his side during the Asia Cup, removing Shadab from the scheme of things this close to the marquee event could hurt their momentum.

“During their meeting, the chief selector and skipper also discussed the fitness problems and bad form of the important players,” the report said.

Meanwhile, Abrar - the young spin prodigy, rose to the limelight following his debut against England in the home Test series last December.

Quicker through the air than Shadab, adding some mystery factor to his bowling, Abrar remains an unknown entity for most teams. With 38 wickets in six matches at a strike rate of 51.26, drafting in Abrar could be a risk worth going for.

Vice-captaincy post under threat

Let alone fighting for his place in the starting XI for the World Cup 2023, Shadab Khan’s vice-captaincy position is also said to be under threat. If Shadab gets overlooked, pace-bowling spearhead Shaheen Afridi could be named Babar’s deputy.

The left-arm seamer is part of the most-talked-about bowling trio in today’s cricket, including Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf – two of whom are nursing injuries. In their absence, Pakistan played Mohammed Wasim Jr and Zaman Khan in the do-or-die clash against Sri Lanka, which Pakistan lost by two wickets.

Per the report, all parties concerned will sit across the table with PCB chief Zaka Ashraf to take a call on such topics.

With September 28 as the deadline date for all teams to name their final 15 for the Cricket World Cup, the PCB has around a week to decide on the squad to travel to India.
