Hafeez said his duty goes beyond just ensuring the team's performance in any series, admitting taking care of players' well-being is also part of his job.</p>

<p>Speaking in detail on the reason behind resting Shaheen in the final Test, Hafeez said he had to be considerate about Afridi’s workload as the left-arm seamer had bowled the most number of overs from either side (in just two matches), more than anyone, even those who played all three Tests, with Australia’s Nathan Lyon being the second-most busiest bowler (having bowled 70 overs in total).</p>

<p>Hafeez added that when he approached Afridi after the second Test, his body was sore and he required time to get into his groove. The former captain also noted that he couldn’t risk Afridi’s fitness because of the busy cricketing calendar.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Hours after Babar Azam stepped down as the captain in all three formats, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced batter Shan Masood will take over as Test captain while Shaheen Shah Afridi will lead the team in T20Is.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Masood will don the captain's hat for the first time when Pakistan travel to Australia next month for the three-match Test series. The stylish batter made his Test debut against South Africa, way back in 2013 but has only featured in 30 Test matches.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As for Afridi, the left-arm seamer has been an exceptional bowler in the format, having featured in 52 matches in his relatively short career.&nbsp;</p>

<p>PCB in a statement said the decision was taken after Babar came down to meet chairman Zaka Ashraf at the headquarters in Lahore.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Babar was asked to continue as Test captain, while he has been relieved of captaincy in white-ball cricket for him to focus on one format," read the statement.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Apart from the change in the captaincy duties, the PCB has changed the portfolio of the entire&nbsp;coaching staff including Director Cricket Mickey Arthur.</p>

<p>The Pakistan batter said he will continue to turn up for the country in all formats and extend full support to the new captain.</p>

<p>"I will continue to represent Pakistan as a player in all three formats. I am here to support the new captain and the team with my experience and dedication."</p>

There has never been any attempt to reduce his authority and so he is now being held solely responsible for the Asia Cup and World Cup defeats," the source mentioned.</p>

<p>"The PCB Chairman, Zaka Ashraf ignored the advice of Misbah and Hafeez and some other former players whom he consulted as Babar was adamant he didn't want changes in the team for the World Cup," the source said.</p>

<p>Misbah, former captain and coach, also confirmed on a television channel that he had asked Babar to include mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed in the World Cup squad. However, the current skipper only added him as a travelling reserve.</p>

<p>It is to be noted that lobbies for the possible candidates, including Sarfaraz, Shaheen, Rizwan and Shan Masood have already started their work to get their candidate selected. In a likely scenario, the PCB is contemplating different captains for the red and white-ball formats.</p>

<p>"Sarfaraz might win the nod to captain the Test and ODI sides again while Shaheen may get a chance to be the T20 captain," the source added. Sarfaraz is not part of the Babar-led ODI World Cup squad.</p>

<p>Babar was appointed T20I captain in late 2019 but became the all-format skipper by 2021.</p>

"The PCB Chairman, Zaka Ashraf ignored the advice of Misbah and Hafeez and some other former players whom he consulted as Babar was adamant he didn't want changes in the team for the World Cup," the source said. Misbah, former captain and coach, also confirmed on a television channel that he had asked Babar to include mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed in the World Cup squad. However, the current skipper only added him as a travelling reserve. It is to be noted that lobbies for the possible candidates, including Sarfaraz, Shaheen, Rizwan and Shan Masood have already started their work to get their candidate selected. In a likely scenario, the PCB is contemplating different captains for the red and white-ball formats. CWC '23: Huge difference between Bumrah and Afridi, feels Gambhir before India vs Pakistan showdown

<p>Former South Africa pacer Dale Steyn has picked up five fast bowlers across teams whom he expects to perform well in the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup. The quadrennial event starting four days later on October 5 is being held in India and the pitches are expected to help spinners more.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Pakistan cricket captain Babar Azam on Tuesday (Sep 26) rubbished claims of a rift in the team after its close&nbsp;defeat to co-hosts Sri Lanka in their last Super Four game of the Asia Cup 2023, which led to them bowing out of the multi-nation event in Colombo.</p>

<p>After Pakistan's miserable run in Asia Cup which was eventually&nbsp;won by Team India, there were rumours of a rift in the Pakistan dressing room.</p>

<p>Reports said that captain Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi got into a verbal spat in the dressing room after the Sri Lanka match.</p>

<p>But Babar dismissed the reports while addressing the press in Lahore.</p>

<p>"There is no ill will in the dressing room. There are discussions after every loss but they get twisted into something else entirely," he said ahead of Pakistan's departure to India before their CWC '23 warm-up game versus New Zealand on Friday (Sep 29).</p>

<p>"The entire team is like a family and there is love and respect there,"&nbsp;Babar stated.</p>

<p>Following their forgettable run in the continental tournament, Pakistan dealt with a major blow as premier pacer Naseem Shah was ruled out of the CWC 2023 edition, in India.</p>

<p>Hasan Ali has been included in the final 15 as the Men in Green are now gearing up for the marquee 50-over World Cup in India, which commences on October 05 with defending champions England taking on New Zealand in Ahmedabad.</p>

<p>"Unfortunately, we will be missing the fans. However, as far as I know, the games are all sold out so we will be playing in jam-packed stadiums. Although our fans will not be there, I know they will make sure their love is heard on social media. I have heard that the fans in India also show their love, although I have not experienced that as of yet but I am excited to play in India as well," Babar further added.</p>

<p>Naseem suffered a shoulder injury during Pakistan's forgettable run in Asia Cup 2023. He was out of Pakistan's last Super Four game, versus Sri Lanka, and is now set to be out of action for a long period. Addressing the press, Inzamam said,&nbsp;"Naseem was injured, he was our main bowler and it was unfortunate. Hasnain has an ankle injury and is out injured and so is Ihsanullah."</p>

<p>On Hasan replacing Naseem, he opined, "If you see how Hasan Ali performed in the LPL, or other performances, he has performed better than most. He is an experienced bowler who has played big mega events for Pakistan and performed well in them. And when Naseem was ruled out, we needed someone who could bowl with the new ball.
