The ace seamer returned to rejoin the Indian Team ahead of the marquee Super Four clash in Colombo, which sadly for all cricket fans, got washed out on Sunday.

However, with the reserve day getting activated, both teams will resume proceedings on Monday, with India coming out to bat at 24.1 overs. If weather permits, it will be a proper 50-over game, as India will start from where they left on Sunday.

Earlier, after the India-Pakistan first game got washed out, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), in coordination with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) – the original host of the tournament alongside BCCI, decided to add a reserve day for this game especially. That move paid dividends, as both teams will return to action on Monday.

<h2>India to play for three days on a trot</h2>

The Indian Cricket Team that last played their Asia Cup match on September 4 against Nepal (Group game) will now be in action for three days on a trot. Having batted on Sunday, they will be back on the field on Monday (for the reserve day), and then India is scheduled to play their next Super Four game against Sri Lanka on Tuesday, September 12, at the same venue.

Depending on the result against Pakistan, India could change their XI, considering providing rest to some players before the team returns to action to face Bangladesh in their last Super Four match on Friday, September 15.

<h3>India dominates in Colombo</h3>

After being asked to bat first, the Indian openers made light work of the best bowling attack in the world, taking them to the cleaners. The opening pair of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill stitched a 121-run stand for the first wicket, hitting respective fifties, while Virat Kohli (8*) and KL Rahul (17*) are at the crease.

India will resume play on 147 for two.

Former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar thinks that India skipper Rohit Sharma is 'worrying too much' while playing against Shaheen Afridi and that he's a far better player. Notably, Afridi had castled Sharma masterfully during the India vs Pakistan Asia Cup 2023 tie on Saturday, September 2 in Kandy, Sri Lanka.

Rohit, who was the first wicket to fall for India, was bowled through his defence by the Pak left-arm pacer. <h2>India make poor start</h2>

The Men in Blue did not have the best of starts after rain halted the play initially. However, Shaheen Afridi would then wreak havoc with quickfire wickets of Rohit Sharma (11) and Virat Kohli (4). With India on the back foot, Pakistan further increased the pressure as they got the better of Shreyas Iyer (14) and Shubman Gill (10) reducing India to 66/4 in 14 overs. Haris Rauf got the better of the latter pair as he too joined the part for Pakistan.

<h2>Ishan, Hardik save India’s day</h2>

As India were struggling, Ishan and Hardik built a terrific 138-run stand for the fifth wicket as the Men in Blue came out of danger. Both the batters were aggressive with their approach as Ishan scored at a strike rate of 101 while Hardik was also scoring at almost 100. Ishan’s 82-run innings contained two sixes and nine fours while Hardik’s innings included one six and seven fours.

The Mumbai Indians batter justified his selection in the team and also became the fourth wicketkeeper to score a fifty against Pakistan in the Asia Cup, joining MS Dhoni. It was also Ishan’s fourth consecutive fifty in the 50-over format, having scored three during three during the West Indies tour.

On the other hand, once Ishan and Hardik were dismissed Pakistan were back in the contest as Afridi added two more wickets to his tally. Haris Rauf also added one more to his tally while Nassem Shah was also excellent in his approach with three wickets. Interestingly, all the 10 wickets for Pakistan were scalped by pacers, highlighting their dominance with the ball.

The first wicket for India to fall was Rohit who was clean bowled through his defence. Shaheen had bowled previous two balls outside off to Rohit but brought the final ball of innings' fifth over into the batsman, uprooting Rohit's stumps. The India skipper scored only 11 off 22 balls before going back to pavillion.

In his next over, Afridi took out India's star batsman Virat Kohli who tried to play the ball towards third man for a single but the ball took an inside edge and hit the stumps, sending Pak fans in frenzy. Haris Rauf then took over the reins and took the wickets of Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill to leave India four down for 66 in 15th over. While Iyer got out on nine runs playing a pull shot, Gill could just score 10 off 32 balls before a Rauf jaffa hit his&nbsp;timber&nbsp;through his defence.

Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya then got together and had added 36 runs for the fifth wicket as India crossed 100-run mark in 20 overs. At the time of writing this report, Kishan was 32 not out and Pandya was unbeaten on 16.&nbsp;

Ahead of the face-off, many former cricketers have shared their take on the mother-of-all-clashes. Former Australian opener Matthew Hayden has also joined the bandwagon and advised Indian captain Rohit to start cautiously against Shaheen Afridi -- who got the better of him in the 2021 T20 World Cup -- and also picked the winner of the clash.

On Star Sports' Game Plan, Hayden said, "India is playing against Pakistan’s pace trio. Well, I can tell you this is one of the spiciest competitions on the planet. We’ve got Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf, and Naseem. Three very different types of bowlers and unique bowlers which require unique plans from Team India. Firstly, the conditions here in Kandy tend to have quite a lot of bounce, so you’ve got to watch that out, especially Haris Rauf. He’ll want to really hustle in and hit the top of off stump."

"You’ve got to be conservative against Shaheen Afridi. Remember back to the World Cup more recently; Shaheen was able to take early wickets. We’ll never forget that ball that he bowled to captain Rohit Sharma, so a little bit of caution against Shaheen Afridi. If it's swinging, look to play out those first three overs,” he advised.

The 51-year-old further opined, "I think with Naseem, even though he will shape the ball, Pakistan can be in a position to advance forward with India managing to take them out of play by aggressive plays against someone like Naseem. India and Pakistan are set to lock horns in match three of the Asia Cup 2023 edition, on Saturday (September 02) in Kandy. The two teams will meet each other for the first time since their memorable face-off in last year's T20 World Cup in Australia, where the Men in Blue won by four wickets on the last ball. Ahead of the much-awaited game, former&nbsp;captain and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Ramiz Raja named a star batter who should be rested for the India game.

Pakistan started their campaign with a thumping win over Nepal&nbsp;in the tournament opener in Multan on Wednesday (August 30). Riding on Babar Azam's 151 and Iftikhar Ahmed's 109, the Men in Green posted a mammoth 342 for 6 and dismissed Nepal for 104. While everything clicked for the co-hosts, they were off to a poor start at 25 for 2 before Babar&nbsp;and Iftikhar came to the team's rescue.

Despite the early hiccups, Pakistan were at their dominant best. However, Ramiz feels the No. 1 ODI side should rest opener Fakhar Zaman for the India tie. Zaman&nbsp;has scores of 2, 30, 27 and 14 in his last four innings, respectively. Thus, the ex-PCB chief feels 'Zaman is the big problem'.

Ramiz said on his official YouTube channel. "The big problem is Fakhar Zaman. He is an unorthodox hitter, but when someone like that gets out of form, it takes some time to find solutions on the drawing board. He's a bottom-handed player, plays on the leg-side, somehow he adjusts with that and scores."

He added, “He played three matches against Afghanistan and couldn't make a mark as well. His body language is suffering, and Pakistan need an in-form opener. If Imam also gets dismissed cheaply, it creates pressure. Pakistan need to assess Fakhar. I believe they should rest him, give him some time out. Sidelining him is better for him as well as the Pakistan side. He's a good player, Pakistan has given him chances. But against India, with the form that he has, that chance is not worth being taken.”

It is to be noted that Zaman hasn't made it big in the last few innings but still has been among runs in the recent past. In the last 15 innings, he has four tons and a half-century under his belt. It will be interesting to see if Pakistan tinker with their winning combination and 'rest' Zaman, whose maiden ODI century came against India in the 2017 Champions Trophy final.

Top Pakistan players had shown discontent with the previous terms offered by then PCB boss Ramiz Raja. This led to the delayed signing of contracts with the majority of the players unhappy with the restrictions imposed to play in different multi-national leagues. The current contract terms offer players the luxury of playing in other leagues along with the Pakistan Super League (PSL). The top two category players can play in any one league other than the PSL while the lower category players can participate in more than one multi-national league.

It also thought that a new advisory board led by former skipper Misbah-ul-Haq is working on a model that could aid the players. Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi set for BUMPER pay hike before ODI World Cup

Ahead of the marquee India-Pakistan clash in the forthcoming ICC ODI World Cup 2023, in India, Pakistan pacer Shaheen Afridi feels that equal importance should be given to all other games as well and not just the one versus Team India. Afridi, who was the Player-of-the-Match in Pakistan's only World Cup win over India&nbsp;during the 2021 T20 World Cup, stated that his countrymen should treat the India game as only one match and their aim is to win the ODI World Cup title.&nbsp;

"We should stop thinking and concentrating on just India versus Pakistan match because that’s just one game. We need to focus our thoughts on how to win the World Cup, and as a team, this will be our aim," Afridi was quoted as saying in a report by&nbsp;Cricket Pakistan. Speaking about the India-Pak battle, the two teams will face off at the iconic Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium, Ahmedabad on October 15.

The tournament will kick off with defending champions England facing New Zealand on October 05, in Ahmedabad, whereas India will meet Australia in their opening game, on October 08, in Chennai. On the other hand, Pakistan will meet Qualifier 1 (either Netherlands or Scotland) on October 06 in Hyderabad.

Afridi, 23, is one of the most important players in Babar Azam-led Pakistan line-up. In the recent past, the speedster has been injured -- since the 2022 T20 World Cup final -- but is now fully fit and put on a splendid show in the Vitality Blast. He is now gearing up for Pakistan's two-match Test series versus Sri Lanka&nbsp;in the island nation, which starts on July 16. Ahead of the series opener, Shaheen revealed that he is fully fit.

Shaheen, who suffered a knee injury in July during the Sri Lanka series last year, remained away from the game for three months before rushing himself into getting fit for the T20 World Cup. Things didn’t work out there much, as following the final’s incident, he again missed the huge chunk of home season – including Test series against Pakistan and the New Zealand ODIs and T20Is.

Though he returned during PSL this season, helping his team win the title for the second straight time, Afridi revealed his knee is now 100% fine and that, with time, he will also get better.

"[I was injured] two months out before the [T20] World Cup, two-three months after the [T20] World Cup also. So it will of course take time to get back. That match energy or fitness, you only get it from playing matches. Since the PSL I've been feeling better, I got better through it and then played internationals for Pakistan as well. With time I'll improve and the more I play the more I'll improve," Shaheen added.

Afridi currently played in the second leg of New Zealand’s white-ball series at home, returning with 14 wickets across T20Is and ODIs.

Given Pakistan is set to compete in two multi-team tournaments this year, including Asia Cup and the Men’s 50-over World Cup, it is important that Afridi remains fit and is managed well by the team management.
