His warning comes just days before members of his administration are scheduled to meet Ukrainian officials in Saudi Arabia to discuss possible steps towards ending the war. The same officials had previously held talks with their Russian counterparts in Riyadh last month.

The US has halted military aid to Ukraine, following the dramatic clash with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky last Friday. The US move, which will severely impact Ukraine's ability to defend itself in the war, came on a day when Russia launched a drone attack on Ukraine's Black Sea port of Odesa, injuring four people and triggering power cuts. Elsewhere on the battlefield, fighting continues to intensify. The question is, can Ukraine survive the war without US support?

Donald Trump recently stated that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky would not remain in power for long, implying that his leadership would be short-lived. Trump’s comment underscores his critical stance on U.S. involvement in Ukraine. The remark is part of ongoing rhetoric questioning foreign policy approaches under current leadership.

Oleksandr Prokudin, the Ukrainian governor of the Kherson region, said that Russian troops were attempting to cross the river at four different points. He suggested that these efforts were aimed at justifying Moscow&rsquo;s claim over the entire oblast, one of four Ukrainian regions that Russia has declared it intends to annex.

White House official says US President suspends aid to Ukraine

Russia has hailed the United States' decision to halt military aid to Ukraine, calling it a move that could help bring the ongoing war to an end. The suspension follows a high-profile dispute between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
The pause in aid, which took effect immediately on Monday, affects hundreds of millions of dollars worth of military supplies, including ammunition, vehicles, and other equipment originally approved during Joe Biden's presidency, according to The New York Times.

<h2>Zelensky meeting ends in heated exchange</h2>
Zelensky had travelled to Washington last week to negotiate a minerals deal, which Trump described as an important step towards a possible ceasefire. However, the meeting quickly fell apart when Zelensky suggested that Senator JD Vance visit Ukraine to witness the destruction firsthand and blamed Russia for the ongoing war.

During the public portion of the discussion, both Trump and Vance criticised Zelensky, with Vance accusing him of going on &ldquo;publicity tours.&rdquo; Trump told the Ukrainian leader, "You&rsquo;re not really in a good position right now," while Vance challenged him, asking, "Have you said thank you once?"
The situation escalated when Trump issued an ultimatum: "Make a deal or we are out," implying that the US might withdraw its support for Kyiv.
The meeting, which was supposed to continue behind closed doors, was abruptly cut short following the confrontation. Zelensky left the White House early, and a planned press conference to announce the minerals deal was cancelled.

France and the United Kingdom have put forward a proposal for a limited one-month ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine. This truce would cover attacks on air, sea, and energy infrastructure but would not extend to ground combat. The plan was outlined by French President Emmanuel Macron and his foreign minister, Jean-No&euml;l Barrot.
<h2>What does the partial truce involve?</h2>
Speaking on Monday, Barrot explained the purpose of the proposal, saying, &ldquo;Such a truce on air, sea and energy infrastructure would allow us to determine whether Russian President Vladimir Putin is acting in good faith when he commits to a truce. And that&rsquo;s when real peace negotiations could start.&rdquo;

According to Macron, the plan is designed as a first step towards broader peace efforts. In an interview with Le Figaro on Sunday, he said that European ground troops would not be deployed in Ukraine during this initial phase.
&ldquo;There will be no European troops on Ukrainian soil in the coming weeks,&rdquo; he said while en route to London for a European leaders' meeting hosted by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

Macron added that this period could be used to push for negotiations that might take several weeks, after which troops could be deployed if a peace deal is reached. However, he did not provide details on how the ceasefire involving air, sea, and energy infrastructure would be monitored.
<h2>How has Ukraine responded?</h2>

He added that multiple options were being discussed among the UK, France, and other allies but declined to comment further on specific proposals.

France, UK propose partial one-month Ukraine truce: What’s covered, what’s not?

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has strongly defended President <a href="https://www.wionews.com/donald-trump" rel="dofollow noopener" target="_blank">Donald Trump&rsquo;s</a> approach to brokering peace between Ukraine and Russia, arguing that his efforts would have gotten him a Nobel Prize if he were a Democrat.
Speaking on ABC News&rsquo;s This Week, Rubio questioned the criticism aimed at Trump, saying, &ldquo;Shouldn&rsquo;t we all be happy that we have a president who&rsquo;s trying to stop wars and prevent them instead of start them?&rdquo;

He went on to add, &ldquo;I just don&rsquo;t get it. I really don&rsquo;t, other than the fact that it&rsquo;s Donald J. Trump.&rdquo;
Rubio suggested that Trump&rsquo;s actions would be viewed differently under another administration, adding, &ldquo;If this was a Democrat that was doing this, everyone would be saying, &lsquo;Well, he&rsquo;s on his way to the Nobel Peace Prize. This is absurd.&rsquo;&rdquo;
<h2>A shift in strategy</h2>
Rubio defended Trump&rsquo;s diplomatic approach, which he described as a break from years of hostile rhetoric towards Russian President Vladimir Putin. Instead, he said, Trump is attempting to negotiate an end to the war.
&ldquo;We are trying to end a war. You cannot end a war unless both sides come to the table, starting with the Russians. And that, that is the point the president has made. And we have to do whatever we can to try to bring them to the table to see if it&rsquo;s even possible,&rdquo; Rubio said.

Rubio&rsquo;s comments followed a tense Oval Office meeting on Friday between Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Zelensky had travelled to Washington to discuss a mineral deal, which Trump has called a crucial step towards a possible ceasefire. However, the talks quickly deteriorated when Zelensky suggested Vance visit Ukraine to witness the devastation firsthand and insisted that Russia was responsible for the ongoing conflict.

'Irresponsible warmonger': Russia labels Zelensky's 'historic' meeting with Trump 'complete failure'

US President Donald Trump and his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky met on Friday (Feb 28) at the White House to discuss a crucial deal over mineral resources as part of the efforts to end Ukraine's war with Russia. Trump has previously called the deal a first step towards a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine. But the meeting, which started with smiles and compliments, turned into a disaster. And the big credit for that should go to the US Vice President JD Vance.&nbsp;
<h2>What exactly happened?&nbsp;</h2>
It all started when Zelensky and Trump met in the White House for the discussion in the presence of media and Vance. The sober discussion turned into an ugly argument after Vance stressed the need for diplomacy to resolve the Russia-Ukraine war and, in return, Zelensky asked him to visit Ukraine and see the situation of the war-torn region.&nbsp;
<h2>The discussion...AND the debate</h2>
"For four years, the United States of America had a president who stood up at press conferences and talked tough about Vladimir Putin, and then Putin invaded Ukraine and destroyed a significant chunk of the country. The path to peace and the path to prosperity is, maybe, engaging in diplomacy," Vance said, taking a dig at the former US president Joe Biden.&nbsp;

"Okay. So he (Vladimir Putin) occupied it, our parts, big parts of Ukraine, parts of east and Crimea. So, he occupied it in 2014. During a lot of years - I'm not speaking about just Biden, but those times was (Barack) Obama, then President Trump, then President Biden, now President Trump and God bless, now, President Trump will stop him. But during 2014, nobody stopped him. He just occupied and took. He killed people," Zelensky said.&nbsp;
<h2>'What kind of diplomacy, JD?'</h2>
"From 2014 till 2022, the situation was the same. People have been dying on the contact line. Nobody stopped him. You know that we had conversations with him, a lot of conversations.... And we signed a deal with him. (French President Emmanuel) Macron and (former German Chancellor Angela) Merkel signed a ceasefire. All of them told me that he will never go... But after that, he broke the ceasefire, he killed our people, and he didn't exchange prisoners. We signed the exchange of prisoners. But he didn't do it. What kind of diplomacy, JD, you are speaking about? What do you mean?" Zelensky asked the US VP as Trump listened to them silently.&nbsp;

"I'm talking about the kind of diplomacy that's going to end the destruction of your country," Vance said.&nbsp;
Then he went on to add: "Mr President, with respect, I think it's disrespectful for you to come to the Oval Office and try to litigate this in front of the American media. Right now, you guys are going around and forcing conscripts to the frontlines because you have manpower problems. You should be thanking the president."
Zelensky seemed to be losing his cool and asked Vance if he had "ever been" to Ukraine and seen the issues the war-torn country was experiencing.&nbsp;
"I've actually watched and seen the stories, and I know what happens is you bring people on a propagated tour, Mr President," Vance said.
As the debate heated, the US VP asked Zelensky if he had even once said "thank you" to Trump.&nbsp;
"A lot of times," Zelensky answered.
"No, in this meeting, this entire meeting? Offer some words of appreciation for the United States of America and the president who's trying to save your country," Vance said, expressing his loyalty to Trump.

"Yes... you think that if you will speak very loudly about the war..." Zelensky retorted, but was interrupted mid-sentence by Trump.&nbsp;
"He's not speaking loud. Your country is in big trouble. No, no, you've done a lot of talking. Your country is in big trouble," the US president said.&nbsp;
"You're not winning this. You have a damn good chance of coming out OK, because of us," Trump added.&nbsp;
As per the US media, Zelensky was eventually told to leave by Trump officials.

But during 2014, nobody stopped him. He just occupied and took. He killed people," Zelensky said. 'What kind of diplomacy, JD?' "From 2014 till 2022, the situation was the same. People have been dying on the contact line. Nobody stopped him. You know that we had conversations with him, a lot of conversations.... And we signed a deal with him. (French President Emmanuel) Macron and (former German Chancellor Angela) Merkel signed a ceasefire. All of them told me that he will never go... But after that, he broke the ceasefire, he killed our people, and he didn't exchange prisoners. We signed the exchange of prisoners. But he didn't do it. What kind of diplomacy, JD, you are speaking about? What do you mean?" Zelensky asked the US VP as Trump listened to them silently. Right now, you guys are going around and forcing conscripts to the frontlines because you have manpower problems. You should be thanking the president." Zelensky seemed to be losing his cool and asked Vance if he had "ever been" to Ukraine and seen the issues the war-torn country was experiencing. "I've actually watched and seen the stories, and I know what happens is you bring people on a propagated tour, Mr President," Vance said. As the debate heated, the US VP asked Zelensky if he had even once said "thank you" to Trump. "A lot of times," Zelensky answered. "No, in this meeting, this entire meeting? Offer some words of appreciation for the United States of America and the president who's trying to save your country," Vance said, expressing his loyalty to Trump. White House expelled Russian journalist in the middle of Trump Zelensky meeting - Here’s why

The Russian invasion ravaged Ukraine and upended the lives of its citizens, who want victory but fear a never-ending conflict. Ukrainians who wanted a normal life are now fighting for their survival. Watch this report for more details!

Russia-Ukraine War: Ukrainians who dreamed of life, now fight for survival

After three years of war, Washington may have offered Moscow an economic lifeline just as the Russian economy is over-heating driven by western sanctions. US President Donald Trump is urging for a swift agreement to end the war in Ukraine, which has alarmed Washington&rsquo;s European allies. This comes amid skyrocketing interest rates, persistently high inflation, and Russia&rsquo;s massive fiscal stimulus.<o:p></o:p>
<h2 class="MsoNormal">Rusal stock trading surges 15-fold<o:p></o:p></h2>
Buoyed by prospects for sanctions relief, one of the few Russian companies left on any of the world's major exchanges saw a more than 15-fold surge in trading activity last week. The Rouble surged to a near six-month high against the dollar. The Rouble has rallied 24 per cent against the dollar and 15 per cent versus the Chinese yuan this year.<o:p></o:p>
That is primarily due to optimism about potential improvements in relations with the US. The Russian central bank linked the Rouble 's surge since the beginning of the year to the easing of geopolitical concerns after Trump's intervention. However, the central bank said it was too soon to assess the effects on the economy.<o:p></o:p>
The Russian central bank said, "The strengthening of the Rouble was linked both to the markets' reaction to geopolitical events and to the seasonal decrease in demand for foreign currency from importers." The bank, however, added, "It is currently difficult to assess how sustainable the strengthening of the Rouble observed in recent weeks will be and how it will affect prices."<o:p></o:p>
Inflation has become the biggest problem for the Russian government, and a stronger Rouble would help solve that. The central bank, in the latest meeting, decided to keep the benchmark interest rate unchanged at 21 per cent, the highest level since the early 2000s. This was to combat inflation.<o:p></o:p>
The minutes of the latest meeting showed the bank had contemplated raising the rate even higher to 22 per cent. The central bank projects the inflation rate to reach 10.6 per cent in the current quarter. Russia's GDP is expected to increase at a slower 2.9 per cent rate compared to 3.3 per cent in the December quarter last year.<o:p></o:p>
While government spending is usually good for the economy, Russia&rsquo;s fiscal expansion is for defence and is now weighing on corporate investment. Moscow's defence spending cuts are unlikely anytime soon. However, other economic constraints should relax, sanctions might be lifted, and western firms could return if a deal is struck.<o:p></o:p>

Trump hands Russian economy a lifeline after 3 years of war

Ukraine's infrastructure has been on the frontlines since Russia's invasion began in 2022. 3 years later, a joint assessment by Ukraine, the World Bank, the European Commission, and the UN, reveals that Ukraine needs $524 billion dollars over the next decade to rebuild. This figure is 2.8 times Ukraine's estimated 2024 GDP. Interestingly, this figure is also what US President Donald Trump aims to extract from Ukraine in the form of critical minerals to continue military aid.
<h2>Ukraine's cost of recovery</h2>
The latest assessment, which covers damage from February 2022 to December 2024, shows a sharp rise from the $486 billion dollar estimate released in early 2024. The report highlights the scale of destruction across key sectors.
The war has destroyed 13 per cent of Ukraine's housing stock, affecting over 2.5 million households. Frontline regions in the East, North, and South account for 75 per cent of the total destruction. Energy infrastructure has been a primary target, with Russian strikes on the power grid causing widespread blackouts. Despite Ukraine's recovery plans focusing on restoring energy systems and housing, the escalating damage presents major hurdles.
This comes as Trump engages with Russia regarding peace restoration in the region. The 'Peace talks' have raised concerns over no Ukrainian participation. Meanwhile, Ukraine's critical minerals are at the centre of Trump-Zelensky negotiations. Trump has asked for strategic access to Ukraine's critical minerals worth $500 billion in exchange for continued military aid. While Zelensky dismissed the offer earlier, saying that such a deal could burden Ukrainians for generations, the latest reports suggest that Ukraine and the US have agreed terms on a minerals deal.
However, the burden is growing on Ukraine to start rebuilding after 3 years of destruction.
