"Winter is coming. We know what's coming with it," a fictional character Jon Snow (Aegon Targaryen) said this line in the popular TV show "Game of Thrones" to reflect on the adversities that must be fought with all the strength to stop the "Long Night" from descending upon the world.

Ironically, the line fits aptly with the current situation in Europe, which is facing a massive energy crisis due to the Russia-Ukraine war, and the situation is likely to worsen as the winter season approaches with shortages of oil, gas and food.

This winter is likely to be particularly harsh for Europe, with Siberian winds expected to bring unpleasant cold conditions. The important question here is as to what the West will do, or in GoT's context, what "Westeros" will do if another harsh winter like the one in 2010–2011 happens again.

Or how will the West cope if a protracted Arctic blast like the "Beast from the East" that swept through western Europe in 2018 comes again? It would make it harder for the EU to stand with Ukraine.

Freezing temperatures in European nations in 2018 were caused by an Arctic blast dubbed the "Beast from the East". It was a weather system, which meteorologists blamed on strong winds from Siberia, that led to record low temperatures across Europe.

Now, some analysts have claimed that Russian President Vladimir Putin is hoping for a chilly winter or a prolonged stretch of subfreezing temperatures so the situation becomes even worse for Europe.

In the aftermath of the EU's support for Ukraine, Russia had cut its gas shipments to the European nations. As the continent struggles with a severe energy crisis, governments in Europe are rushing to be ready for this winter with little room to avoid a worst-case scenario of shortages and blackouts.

"Europe's security of gas supply is facing unprecedented risk as Russia intensifies its use of natural gas supplies as a political weapon," the International Energy Agency (IEA) warned in a report in early October.

Households are being urged to lower their thermostats, and businesses are being urged to find energy savings as part of EU plans to reduce gas consumption by 15% this winter compared to the average.

In fact, the European states have also rushed to fill up their strategic reserves in recent months. They bought extra supplies at record prices from Algeria, Qatar, Norway and the United States among other global gas suppliers.

IEA is an energy consultancy financed by Western nations. The agency is stress-testing if Europe could withstand this winter without Russian gas as according to the agency, Europe's gas storage is around 90 per cent full this winter.

This is definitely some assurance against a major shortage but one must remember that a large proportion of that 90 per cent is made up of imported gas from Russia in previous months.

The agency believes that Europe will make it through without major disruption but some major oil and gas executives have warned that the concerns should be for the winter of 2023, not the coming winter.

Ukraine war: UK defence ministry claims Russia threatening to shoot its own retreating soldiers

Iran has admitted for the first time that it has sent drones to Russia. However, the Islamic Republic has insisted that the drones were supplied before Russian launched its invasion of Ukraine. Iran has long been facing international accusations of having sent weapons to Russia.

"We supplied Russia with a limited number of drones months before the war in Ukraine," Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said, quoted by the official news agency IRNA.

Iran had been repeatedly denying allegations of having supplied arms to Russia for use in Ukraine war.

"In a telephone conversation with the Ukrainian foreign minister last week, we agreed that if there was evidence (of Moscow's use of Iranian drones), he would provide it to us," Amir-Abdollahian said.

On the sidelines of a meeting in Tehran, Iran’s top diplomat said, “We agreed with the foreign minister of Ukraine that if they have any documents on Russia’s use of Iranian drones in Ukraine, they should provide them to us.”

"If the Ukrainian side keeps its promise, we can discuss this issue in the coming days and we will take into account their evidence," he added.

However, the Iranian minister again sought to deny that his country had supplied missiles to Russia. He called these allegations "completely false".

The Washington Post reported on October 16 that Iran was preparing to ship missiles to Russia.

Ukraine has previously said that around 400 Iranian drones had already been used against its civilian population. Kyiv has also said that Russia has ordered around 2000 such drones.

In response to these transfers, the European Union and United Kingdom have imposed sanctions on three Iranian generals and an arms firm accused of supplying Russia with drones.

In September, Kiev decided to significantly reduce diplomatic relations with Tehran because of alleged arms shipments to the country.

Russian President Vladimir Putin yet to decide on attending G-20 summit in Bali

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday (November 4) said that all the civilians should be taken out of Moscow-occupied Kherson region in southern Ukraine, stating that the civilian population "should not suffer" from the shelling. Meanwhile, the Russian army has said that more than 5,000 civilians have been evacuated from the Kherson region of southern Ukraine each day.

The southern region of Kherson was occupied by Moscow in February, but the Ukrainian forces are piling pressure on Russian troops with counterattacks. The Russian troops have been leading evacuations since mid-October.

The fighting in Kherson has become strategically important in the current course of Russia‘s war in Ukraine and losing control of the region would be a big setback for the Russian president.

He said: “Now, of course, those living in Kherson should be removed from the zone where the most dangerous (military) action is on.” He said that the ongoing actions might impact the common people and they should not suffer from the shelling, from the "offensives, counter-offensives" or any other actions connected to the military activities that are underway. Kirill Stremousov, who is the Russian-appointed deputy governor of Kherson, appealed to civilians to leave the part of the province on the west bank of the Dnipro river. The Russia-Ukraine crisis is escalating, raising geopolitical tensions but both the Ukrainian people's battle and Western efforts to support Kyiv continue. The war led to food, and fuel crises globally, with direct or indirect impacts on several industries, aviation being one of them.

Some Ukrainians are 'recycling' a downed Russian jet by turning them into luggage tags: Report

Amid the conundrum over the use of Iranian drones by Russia in the Ukraine war, the United States is saying that it has concrete information that indicates North Korea is secretly supplying Russia with a "significant" number of artillery shells for the ongoing war.

In a virtual briefing, the White House National Security spokesperson John Kirby said on Wednesday (November 2) that North Korea was attempting to obscure the shipments by funnelling them through countries in the Middle East and North Africa.

Kirby said: "Our indications are that the DPRK is covertly supplying and we are going to monitor to see whether the shipments are received. We do have a sense on where they are going to transfer these shells."

To counter North Korea's reported military assistance to Russia, the US State Department spokesperson Ned Price said on Wednesday that Washington will also look at additional tools and authorities that may be used.

Without providing more details, Kirby said that the US would consult with the United Nations to get accountability over the issues as far as the shipments are concerned.

The US also claimed that Iran provided Russia with drones, missiles for the war in Ukraine. The claims and counterclaims over drones raised geo-political tensions but Iran them denied multiple times.

Commenting on the alleged shipments from North Korea, Kirby said that the number of shells was not insignificant. However, it won't help Russia in changing the momentum or outcome of the war.

But still, it could be deadly for Ukrainians, Kirby said, adding that it's certainly not going to "change our calculus".

Kirby's remark came on the same day when North Korea fired at least 23 missiles into the sea, including one that landed less than 60 km off South Korea's coast. The South's President Yoon Suk-yeol described it as "territorial encroachment."

The United States would make sure it has the capacity there to defend its partners, Kirby said in reference to the latest missile tests by North Korea, adding that they did not constitute an imminent threat to American personnel in the area.

Poland sealing border with Russian exclave Kaliningrad by building razor-wire fence

United States president Joe Biden apparently lost his temper during a phone call in June while talking to his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky.

The United States emerged as one of the key allies of Kyiv during the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war. The conflict started when Russia announced the invasion of the Ukrainian regions on February 24.

Russia-Ukraine war: During a phone call in June, Biden 'lost his temper' while speaking with Zelensky

The continuous surge in oil and fuel prices due to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war impacted millions globally with people coping with a rise in the cost of living. But some are also profiting from it, especially the energy firms.

BP on Tuesday (November 1) reported a third-quarter profit of $8.15 billion, which is more than double its profit for the period between July and September last year. Notably, BP made a profit of $3.3 billion a year earlier. In the second quarter of 2022, it made a 14-year high profit of $8.45 billion.

Not just BP, but several other top Western energy giants have reported huge profits, including Shell, Exxon Mobil and Total Energies PA. This revived calls of imposing new windfall taxes on the energy firms to help the governments.

UK economic crisis

The United Kingdom is facing an economic crisis that has left the nation's finances in a precarious state. Millions of people across the nation are struggling with their high food and energy bills.

A few days ago, Rishi Sunak became Britain's prime minister and when he was chancellor, he introduced the windfall tax in May. As quoted by a BBC report, a Treasury spokesperson said the tax was expected to raise £17bn this year and next "to help fund cost of living support for eight million people".

The same report also quoted Ed Miliband, shadow climate change secretary, as saying that BP's profits were "damning evidence of the failure of the government to levy a proper windfall tax".

He said, "Rishi Sunak should be hanging his head in shame that he has left billions of windfall profits in the pockets of oil and gas companies, while the British people face a cost-of-living crisis."

In a tweet, Alok Sharma, who is UK's COP president, noted: "We need to raise more money from a windfall tax on oil and gas companies and actively encourage them to invest in renewables."

'Only a phone call away': UAE asserts OPEC+ keen on supplying world with oil it needs

Just hours after Russia's Black Sea Fleet came under a massive drone attack in Sevastopol, a video showing the moments of the daring Kamikaze attack has surfaced on the internet now. The video believed to be released by the Ukrainian Navy is a footage that was recorded by mounted cameras on unmanned surface vehicles which carried out the attack.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelesnky said on Friday (October 28) that Russia has launched more than 30 drone attacks against Ukraine in just two days. He was speaking from Kyiv and was staNding next to what appeared to be a downed drone.

Zelensky said that Ukraine would 'clip' Russian air power.

Officials from Western governments have alleged that Iran has supplied a large number of drones to Russia for use in Ukraine.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has already termed use of Iranian drones in Ukraine "appalling". He has said that the US and allies would seek to block such shipments to Russia.

Russia has used the drones to "kill Ukrainian civilians and destroy the infrastructure they rely on for electricity, for water, for heat. It's appalling," Blinken said during a visit to Ottawa.

Zelensky stands besides downed drone, vows to 'clip' Russian air power

Russia declared on Saturday (October 29) that it was suspending its participation in grain deal that allowed export of Ukrainian grain. Russia blamed alleged drone attack on Russian ships in Crimea as the reason for its decision.

"In light of the terrorist act carried out by the Kyiv regime with the participation of British experts against ships of the Black Sea fleet and civilian vessels involved in the security of grain corridors, Russia suspends its participation in the implementation of the agreement on the export of agricultural products from Ukrainian ports," the Russian Defence Ministry announced on Telegram.

Ukraine is often called the bread-basket of Europe. The initial months of Russian invasion on Ukraine had raised the spectre of global food shortage as grain shipments were not able to leave Ukrainian ports.

The grain deal, brokered by the UN and Turkiye, was able to establish a safe passage for grain shipments. The safe passage may no longer exist following latest Russian stance.

Saturday appeared to be a day of major announcements and allegations from the Russian camp. Russia alleged that British navy was responsible for damage to Nord Stream gas pipeline. This was first direct allegation from Russia against a major NATO member.

Russia suspends participation in Ukraine grain deal, cites attack on its fleet in Crimea bay as reason

European Union Justice Commissioner Didier Reynders said in an interview published on Saturday that the EU has frozen Russian assets worth around 17 billion euros since Moscow invaded Ukraine in February this year.

The figure has risen from the roughly 13.8 billion euros "from oligarchs and other entities" that Reynders in July announced the EU had frozen, mainly in five countries.

"So far, the assets of 90 people have been frozen, more than 17 billion euros in seven member states, including 2.2 billion euros in Germany," he told German media group Funke, including the Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung daily.

There has been a demand from Ukrainian officials for using the assets to rebuild their country after the war.

He also noted that sanctions from Western countries have led to "freezing of 300 billion euros" of Central Bank of Russia foreign exchange reserves around the world. He said that this could be used as a guarantee.

Russian assets worth 17 bn euros frozen by EU, may be given to Ukraine for rebuilding: Official

President Volodymyr Zelensky said that four million people in Ukraine have lost electricity as a result of Russia's bombing campaign, and officials in the capital Kyiv have issued warnings of "unprecedented" outages.

Zelensky was speaking after Russia announced that it had finished calling up all 300,000 reserve soldiers to fight in Ukraine.

In the meantime, the United States offered new military assistance to Ukraine, in part as a result of Russian attacks on the nation's infrastructure for civilian use.

Kyiv bracing for 'unprecedented' power outages due to Russia's bombing campaign

Senior Ukraine military officials claimed that Russia is amassing troops on the right bank of the Dnieper river as both sides seem poised for a key battle for the city of Kherson.

The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces said on Friday (October 28) that Moscow has sent in a contingent of 1,000 recently mobilised soldiers to make up for the massive loss of personnel in the Ukrainian counteroffensive in Kherson region, reports Reuters.

“In order to avoid panic among the personnel, the command of the Russian occupying forces is trying by all means to hide the real losses of servicemen.... There is a strengthening of the enemy group on the right bank of the temporarily occupied territory of the Kherson region with mobilized servicemen numbering up to 1,000 people," the General Staff said in a statement.

Ukraine: Moscow has sent 1,000 troops as reinforcement as fighting intensifies in Kherson

The evacuation of civilians from the Kherson region amid a Ukrainian counter-offensive has been completed, said Sergei Aksyonov, the head of Moscow-annexed Crimea, after he visited the region with President Vladimir Putin's first deputy chief of staff, Sergei Kiriyenko.
“The work to organise residents leaving the left side of the Dnipro (river) to safe regions of Russia is completed,” Sergei Aksyonov, the Moscow-appointed head of Crimea, said on Telegram late on Thursday.

Moscow’s occupational authorities in the southern Ukrainian region had urged residents to cross to the right bank of the Dnipro River as Ukrainian forces started making gains in the south.

Kyiv compares this civilian evacuation from Kherson to Soviet-like “deportations" of its people.

“The crossing (of the Dnipro) is empty!" Aksyonov said.

He also posted photos of himself and other officials, including Kiriyenko, on a riverbank.
A Russian-installed official in Kherson, Vladimir Saldo, had said on Wednesday that at least 70,000 people have left their homes in the Kherson region in a week, reports AFP.

Ukrainian military officers, however, claimed on Friday that Moscow’s “so-called evacuation" is continuing.
The AFP report cited the officials as saying that the Russian command in Kherson is trying to “hide the real losses of servicemen” in order to avoid panic.

In a sign of Moscow suffering heavy losses, Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov said late on Thursday that 23 of his fighters were killed in battles around Kherson this week and dozens more wounded.

“At the beginning of this week, one of the Chechen units was shelled in the Kherson region,” Kadyrov, who has sent his militia to fight alongside the Kremlin’s forces, said on Telegram.
“23 soldiers were killed and 58 wounded,” he said.

The Kremlin ally rarely reveals defeats but admitted that losses were “big on that day”.
Moscow’s forces have vowed to turn Kherson into a “fortress” and not surrender the city, which they took over early in their offensive in March.

Aksyonov said that he and Kiriyenko also visited the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant — Europe’s largest atomic facility — further north on the Dnipro River in Russian-occupied territory.
He said they met with the staff and assessed the general situation in the plant and area.

Ukraine accuses Moscow’s forces of “kidnapping” the plant’s staff and said last week that around 50 employees are held in “captivity".
Russia and Ukraine have accused each other of shelling the plant, sparking fears of a nuclear disaster.

Civilian evacuation ‘complete’ in Kherson: Crimea’s Moscow-appointed head

The United States is backing Ukraine, a nation pushing hard to become a NATO member, against Russia in the ongoing war that caused massive food and fuel crises globally.

The United States is backing Ukraine, a nation pushing hard to become a NATO member, against Russia in the ongoing war that caused massive food and fuel crises globally. The US is providing Ukraine with advanced military weapons and aid to fight Russia, but its attention is also diverted to the simmering tensions in the Taiwan strait and Korean Peninsula. The US military said in a strategy document released on Thursday (October 27) that China is apparently the "most consequential" challenge for Washington, but Russia presents "acute threats". China-Taiwan tensions The document says that Chinese actions may act as a destabilising factor and threaten peace in the Indo-Pacific region. China claims self-ruled Taiwan as part of its territory and tensions recently flared up between Beijing and Washington. China claimed that, in case needed, it will use force to unite the two territories. The document further emphasised the need for collaboration with allied countries and other partners to counter the dangers posed by China and Russia. The US claims that such cooperation is "foundational for US national security interests." It said, "The most comprehensive and serious challenge to US national security is (China's) coercive and increasingly aggressive endeavor to refashion the Indo-Pacific region and the international system to suit its interests and authoritarian preferences." The Pentagon also said that it will advance its Major Defense Partnership with India to "enhance its (India's) ability to deter People's Republic of China (PRC) aggression and ensure free and open access to the Indian Ocean Region." Amid the ongoing Ukraine war, fears of nuclear weapon use are rising. The strategy document noted that the US intends for its nuclear arsenal to deter "all forms of strategic attack," including those involving conventional weapons. Putin's goddaughter and renowned Russian media figure Ksenia Sobchak flees to Lithuania

The eight-month-old Russia-Ukraine war raised concerns that a nuclear weapon could be deployed that would lead to massive destruction. In the past couple of months, the issue has been raised by world leaders, who are urging Moscow and Kyiv to end the conflict peacefully.

In a recent report, US-based media outlet POLITICO cited United States diplomatic cable and two people familiar with the issue who said that the nation is apparently speeding up its plan to store a more accurate version of its mainstay nuclear weapons at NATO bases in Europe.

The cable revealed that the US officials informed NATO allies this month that the arrival of the upgraded B61-12 air-dropped gravity bomb, which was originally scheduled for next spring, is now planned for this December, the report added.

As quoted by POLITICO, Pentagon spokesman Brig. Gen. Patrick Ryder said via an email, "While we aren't going to discuss details of our nuclear arsenal, modernisation of US B61 nuclear weapons has been underway for years and plans to safely and responsibly swap out older weapons for the upgraded B61-12 versions is part of a long-planned and scheduled modernisation effort. It is in no way linked to current events in Ukraine and was not sped up in any way."

Rising fears of nuclear weapons' use

It is in no way linked to current events in Ukraine and was not sped up in any way." Russia-Ukraine war: Vladimir Putin oversees training of nuclear deterrence forces

Over the last few days, Russia has repeatedly claimed that Ukraine is planning to detonate a 'dirty bomb'. In recent telephonic conversations between Moscow and the West, the country's Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu discussed Ukraine situation and made the allegations. Shoigu talked about the ongoing war that caused massive food and fuel crises globally. Russia's defence ministry said in a statement that Shoigu discussed Ukraine with UK Defence Secretary Ben Wallace following earlier calls with his French and Turkish counterparts. "Shoigu conveyed to his British colleague his concern about possible provocations by Ukraine with the use of a 'dirty bomb'," the ministry said in a statement. While responding to the claims, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky criticised Shoigu's accusations. Zelensky said on social media: "If Russia calls and says that Ukraine is allegedly preparing something, it means one thing: Russia has already prepared all this. I believe that now the world should react as harshly as possible." What is a "dirty bomb"? The so-called "dirty bomb" is a conventional explosive device that is laced with toxic nuclear material. Instead of producing an atomic explosion that would level a whole city, dirty bombs are made to disperse poisonous waste. Security experts have been more concerned about them as a type of terrorist weapon that may be deployed in cities to terrorise civilians than as a tactical tool for use by opposing sides in combat. Since the majority of people in an impacted area would be able to flee before receiving lethal quantities of radiation, experts believe the immediate health impact would likely be minimal. But the need to flee metropolitan areas or even abandon entire cities could cause significant economic harm. In a background article on dirty bombs, the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission, an independent agency, said: "A dirty bomb is not a weapon of mass destruction but a 'weapon of mass disruption', where contamination and anxiety are the major objectives." What is a 'dirty bomb' that Russia claims Ukraine is plotting to detonate?

US President Joe Biden issued a strong warning to Russia on Tuesday, stating that unleashing a nuclear weapon in the conflict with Ukraine would be a horrible mistake on its part.

As reporters questioned Biden about his belief that Russia is planning a "dirty bomb" attack that it would later attribute to Ukraine, he responded, "Russia would be making an incredibly serious mistake were it to use a tactical nuclear weapon."

Russia has frequently cautioned Ukraine not to use a "dirty bomb" on its own soil.

The US and its allies fear that Russia may launch a "false flag" strike using a dirty bomb in order to justify the use of conventional nuclear weapons as Moscow finds itself in a precarious position in eastern and southern Ukraine.

Biden warns Russia against using nukes, says it would be 'incredibly serious mistake'

Iran has denied several times that it provided Russia with drones, missiles and other military hardware to use against Ukraine in the ongoing war, which has escalated geopolitical tensions.

Iran has denied several times that it provided Russia with drones, missiles and other military hardware to use against Ukraine in the ongoing war, which has escalated geopolitical tensions. The Russia-Ukraine war started this February 24, reviving fears of nuclear doomsday after 60 years. The world averted possible nuclear destruction during the Cuban missile crisis in 1962, but it should remember that we don't have John F Kennedy this time. The eight-month-old Ukraine war has entered a new phase, with Russia annexing regions and Kyiv on the other hand ramping up a counter-offensive. People are dying and millions are struggling amid the food crisis, and rising oil prices, but politics is at its highest with Iran lately taking centrestage. Row over Iranian drones The US and other Western countries have alleged that Iranian military staff had been deployed in Crimea to assist Russian forces using Iranian-made drones to attack Ukraine. The West slapped sanctions on Tehran in response. In fact, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky even said that Moscow's use of drones built in Iran in recent operations against his nation was a sign of the Kremlin's "military and political bankruptcy." He also said that "strategically, it will not help them [Russia] anyway." Recently, Britain and France said that if Iran is supplying armed drones to Russia for the Ukraine war, then it is a breach of Tehran's obligations under the 2015 nuclear deal. Russia and Iran have denied the claims as the Kremlin said that it had no knowledge of its army using such weapons. Meanwhile, Tehran said that it was ready for talks with Kyiv to clarify the "baseless" claims. But even if Iran is supplying weapons and drones, why is it bothering the West so much? In the ongoing war, the US and some other Western countries have provided Ukraine with advanced weapons and military equipment. Such backing is one of the reasons behind Ukraine's incredible resistance. Similarly, Russia's allies also ought to extend help to Moscow. But to what extent they can do it, remains to be seen. Recently, France, Germany and Britain urged the United Nations to probe Iran's possible breach of UN Security Council resolution 2231, which endorsed a 2015 resolution of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on Iran's nuclear programme. It sets out an inspection process and schedule in exchange for granting sanctions relief on Iran. But the deal was jeopardised since then-president Donald Trump withdrew the United States from it in 2018. Although Iran denies sending weapons (drones, missiles, etc) to Russia for war, it also asserts that it can do so since the restrictions on arms sales contained in the 2015 Iran nuclear deal expired in 2020. When it comes to arms sales to other countries, there are certain laws and regulations established by the United Nations. The Arms Trade Treaty is the first international agreement to regulate the transfer of conventional weapons that is legally binding and has ever been negotiated at the United Nations. But Why Iran would want to help Russia? Besides being an ally, the Islamic Republic's clerical leaders are keen to strengthen strategic relations with Russia as there are fears that an emerging, US-backed Gulf Arab-Israeli bloc may shift the Middle East balance of power further away from Iran. Due to the war-fueled high oil prices, Iran is betting that with Russia's support it could pressure Washington to offer concessions for the revival of its 2015 nuclear deal with world powers. Iran may think that a real partnership with a superpower that supports anti-Western ideologies and isn't hesitant to advocate for them on the battlefield is a calculated move to demonstrate that Iran is not alone. The actions by Iran might lead to more sanctions by the West. But the question is, should other country-specific sanctions stop Tehran from exercising its right to engage in military trade? Disclaimer: A number of claims and counterclaims are being made on the Ukraine-Russia conflict on the ground and online. While WION takes utmost care to accurately report this developing news story, we cannot independently verify the authenticity of all statements, photos and videos. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky claimed on Monday (October 24) that Russia had ordered around 2,000 drones from Iran. During a speech at a conference organised by the Israeli newspaper Haaretz, Zelensky said, "The disgusting sound of Iranian drones is heard in our skies every night." The Ukrainian president claimed that Russia apparently ordered the same ones that Moscow has been allegedly using in its recent attacks against Ukraine. "Russia ordered about 2,000 'Shaheds' from Iran," Zelensky added. However, there's no clarity if Zelensky was referring to Russia's past purchases or new ones. Iran denies allegations Tehran on Saturday warned against using "provocative approaches" after some of the European countries called for a UN investigation into Iranian drones being allegedly used by Russia in the ongoing Ukraine war. After the EU and Britain imposed further sanctions on Tehran this week, France, Britain, and Germany demanded an "impartial" probe into the situation in a letter to the UN on Friday. So far, Iran has denied that it provided Russia with weapons for use in the Ukraine war. On the other hand, Kremlin said that it had no knowledge of its army using such weapons and Moscow accused the West of seeking to put "pressure" on Tehran with the allegations. Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanani said in a statement: "The Islamic Republic of Iran considers the current provocative approaches of the European Union and the United Kingdom to be part of a targeted political scenario."
