Blood, broken glass and accusations of a knife attack marked a chaotic Sunday at the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI) in Kolkata, after a programme by an RSS-affiliated consumer group erupted into a campus-wide brawl that left students besieged inside their own institute for hours, chased into the library, and at least two hospitalised with serious injuries. After JU, clash erupts at SRFTI: BJP’s ‘Dimagi Naxal’ jibe sparks political firestorm after students protest RSS-linked event

RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat took his centenary outreach tour to London, telling British Hindus that "Hindu" isn't a religion but a philosophy that embraces every path — atheists to polytheists included. Speaking at the "Celebration of Oneness" event, he said the goal of "Hindu Rashtra" is simply to show the world that diversity is natural and unity is truth, adding that conversion isn't needed since different paths lead to the same destination.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has said he does not support the upcoming Madison Square Garden event featuring RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, though he acknowledged the city may not have the legal authority to stop a private gathering. Bhagwat is scheduled to address thousands of Indian-Americans in New York as part of the RSS centenary outreach programme. Mamdani said the vision of India he was raised with was that of a pluralistic and secular republic, and voiced concerns about what he described as politics rooted in division. The remarks have sparked debate within the Indian diaspora ahead of the high-profile event.

A major political debate is unfolding in Canada over RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat's proposed visit. More than 100 Canadian Hindu and civil liberties organizations have written to Prime Minister Mark Carney, urging his government to allow Bhagwat's entry and reject calls for a ban. The groups argue that any decision should be based on evidence and due process, not political pressure. They also warn that blocking Bhagwat could be perceived by many as discrimination against Canada's Hindu community. The controversy comes as some MPs and advocacy groups demand that Bhagwat be declared inadmissible, citing concerns over the RSS. Bhagwat is expected to visit Canada as part of a wider overseas outreach tour that includes the United States and the United Kingdom.

The vast majority of the core leaders appointed by the ruling BJP in its latest organisational reshuffle have deep and foundational ties to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. Karnataka Home Minister once again revived the decade-old contentious question about Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh's registration. In a two-page letter shared on the social media platform X, Kharge questioned RSS's chief Mohan Bhagwat. So it should register itself, disclose its finances, funding sources and constitutional compliance. RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat, responding to the demand, called it politically motivated. He said that RSS is a “body of individuals” and is eligible for tax exemptions. Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat said on Thursday (Aug 28) that there is “no quarrel” between the RSS and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Speaking at an event in New Delhi, he admitted that while there may be “struggle” between the two organisations, RSS has good coordination with both the Centre and state governments. He added that RSS and BJP both have the same goals in the nation’s interest.“There are opinions, but we discuss and form a consensus to decide whether it is against one’s opinion or in favour of it. I will follow the collective decision. When that nature is there, quarrel doesn’t exist. There can be matbhed (difference of opinion) here, but no manbhed (heart-to-heart disagreement). We need to move forward in one direction, and not different ones,” Bhagwat said during the briefing. He further added, “We are having good coordination with every government, both the Centre and states. There are systems that have internal contradictions. The system in general is the same... There is no quarrel in any way... We have good coordination with every government,” he added.Bhagwat said that while there may be some differences of opinion, there is no resentment between RSS and BJP.“There may be differences in our opinions, but not in our hearts,” he said. When asked why the RSS does not support other political parties, he responded by saying that his organisation provide assistance to those who seek help.“We provide assistance to those who seek help from us for good work. When we attempt to provide assistance, those who run away from us often don’t receive the help they need, so what can we do?... But sometimes, to run the country or to carry out a party’s work, if it is good, our volunteers go and help...We have no hesitation,” he said.He further said that the goal of RSS was to do good for the country and its people. This allows the organisation to maintain coordination.
