<p>India defeated Bangladesh in the finals of Nidahas Trophy T20 tri-series at the R. Premadasa Stadium on Sunday.</p>

India have brought in Mohammed Siraj in place of Jaydev Unadkat for their last league match while Bangladesh have replaced Taskin Ahmed with Abu Hider. India, who already have won two matches, need one more victory to qualify for the title-clash. So far, in all four matches, the chasing team has emerged victorious. India would keep an eye on the skies. Hopefully, rains will stay away, though at this time of the year it is never far off in Sri Lanka. Team batting second would be at an advantage if Duckworth-Lewis Rain Rule comes into play. Men in blue are currently leading the tournament with four points, as they won two out of three matches till now. Though, India had lost the first match against Sri Lanka but fought their way out in the second match when the young guns of the team came out as champions. Rohit Sharma, who is leading the team in the absence of regular skipper Virat Kohli, has not performed at-par. A big shout out to the bowlers, especially Shardul Thakur and Washington Sundar, both of them have outbowled the opponents with their variety of seam and pace. <p>Over the years, Rohit has managed to win the trust of cricket fans on the back of consistent performances in limited-overs cricket.&nbsp;</p>

<p>With his ability to score big hundreds, the 30-year-old has earned a new nickname &ndash; hitman -- and became a darling of the social media since then.</p>

<p>However, after a streak of low scores in the recently concluded T20 series in South Africa, and two back-to-back failures in the ongoing tri-series T20 tournament in Sri Lanka, the Mumbai batsman has come under attack once again on Twitter.</p>

<p>The Twitterati took a jibe at Rohit&rsquo;s recent promotion into Grade A+ category in BCCI&rsquo;s list of centrally contracted players, which entitled him for a payment of Rs 7 crore per year.</p>

<p>While taking a jibe at Rohit for receiving highest salary despite lowest performance, one fan went on to compare Rohit with an office employee who doesn&rsquo;t perform after a pay hike.</p>

Rohit Sharma wins toss, opts to bowl first; bowlers restrict Bangladesh to 139/8

<p>India&#39;s young bowling unit got its bearings back with a disciplined effort to restrict Bangladesh to a modest 139/8 in the second round robin league match of the Nidahas T20 Tri-Nation tournament, here this evening.</p>

<p>After a nightmarish effort against hosts Sri Lanka in the opener, the inexperienced line-up gave a much better account of themselves, using the conditions well, much to the delight of their skipper Rohit Sharma.</p>

<p>The testimony to a better performance was as many as 55 dot balls (9.1 overs) being bowled by the &#39;Men In Blue&#39;.</p>

<p>On a slow Premadasa track, all-rounder Vijay Shankar&#39;s (2/32 in 4 overs) wicket-to-wicket stuff proved to be handy even though he had at least three catches dropped off his bowling. Jaydev Unadkat (3/38) had the most number of wickets but he was inconsistent throughout his four-over spell with a mixture of good deliveries followed by half-trackers.</p>

<p>Skipper Rohit once again started with off-spinner MS Washington Sundar (0/23 in 4 overs) and the normally dangerous Tamim Iqbal (15, 16 balls) found it difficult to get going in the Powerplay overs. Sundar bowled as many as 13 dot balls in those first six overs.</p>

<p>His partner Soumya Sarkar (14, 12 balls) flicked Unadkat over long-leg for a six but the Saurashtra left-arm had the last laugh when he was caught at short fine-leg trying to whip a rising delivery.</p>

<p>Tamim&#39;s misery was ended by a well-disguised short-ball from Shardul Thakur (1/25 in 4 overs), which climbed on him sharply.His mistimed pull-shot was taken easily by Unadkat at short fine-leg.</p>

<p>Liton Das (34, 30 balls) and former skipper Mushfiqur Rahim (18) added 31 runs for the third wicket.</p>

<p>Rahim, in fact, started with a switch-hit sweep and a conventional slog sweep off Yuzvendra Chahal (1/19 in 4 overs), who didn&#39;t bowl too many boundary balls after that.<br />
Shankar, playing his second international game, impressed everyone by hitting the right length time and again.</p>

<p>The lack of pace in his bowling was managed well by managing to hit the good length spot with Suresh Raina dropping a dolly to give Liton a reprieve. The ball stopped on him and climbed up. It was an easy skier went abegging with Raina running from mid-off dropped it.</p>

<p>Liton once again got lucky as another Shankar bouncer saw him try to clear the deep fine leg but Chahal running in-front spilt the catch.</p>

<p>However in his next over, Shankar got his first international wicket when Mushfiqur edged one to Dinesh Karthik behind the stumps.</p>

However, that was not to be as a knock of fifty coming from 22-balls from Kusal Perera took the game away from India completely. The left-hander was in a sensational form and reminded people of Sanath Jayasuriya with his explosive and hard-hitting batting as he smashed a whopping 27 runs from Shardul Thakur&rsquo;s one over. There was no looking back after that as the home team got to victory with five wickets in hand and nine balls to spare.</p>

<p>While the results in T20Is are generally a lottery, India has a lot of questions to answer after this loss. Rohit Sharma continues to be erratic and inconsistent and was dismissed for a naught. Manish Pandey yet again played a knock where he could not find his touch and failed to move things along in the middle-overs. Young Rishabh Pant, playing only his fourth international game, did not look confident and was just swinging the bat around wildly without getting any results. India&rsquo;s failure to finish well after having a good platform yet again stuck out like a sore thumb.</p>

<p>The bowling, however, was even worse. In the absence of the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, the Indian seam bowling looked listless and without any bite. Shradul Thakur gave away 42 runs in just 3.3 overs and Jaydev Unadkat was spanked for 35 in his 3. Even the usually dependable leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was pretty expensive and went for 37 runs in 4 overs. The only bright spot in India&rsquo;s bowling was young off-spinner Washington Sundar who took 2 wickets for 28 runs in his 4 overs.</p>

<p>Given that India would have to mostly work with this same bowling unit in the rest of the tournament, things do not look pretty great. Perhaps dropping Thakur and giving fast bowler Mohammad Sriraj a few games may work. However, even Sriraj is inexperienced and to expect him to work wonders would be a little too much.&nbsp;</p>

<p>One feels that the selectors missed a trick by not adding an experienced pacer in the lineup. Mohammad Shami or Umesh Yadav would have certainly bolstered the bowling unit and given that two haven&rsquo;t played much-limited overs cricket in the past few months, it would have helped them get in the groove as well. At present, this Indian bowling unit lacks experience on how to bowl on Sri Lankan pitches and will likely suffer in the coming games as well.</p>

<p>India&rsquo;s next match is against Bangladesh and it will be interesting to see how this new-look Indian team responds to that challenge. Another defeat there will make it difficult for team India to progress ahead in the tournament.</p>

<p>However, what will hurt India after last night&rsquo;s result is the inability of the youngsters to perform. This tournament was being looked upon as an opportunity for India&rsquo;s bench strength to showcase their prowess and for the selectors to see if any new players can be brooded for 2019 World Cup. As far as last night was concerned, things did not look good.</p>

<p>Rohit Sharma clearly has a lot on his plate and he would hope that newbies on his side would be able to pull up their socks and perform better in the coming matches. Interesting times thus lie ahead for Indian cricket.&nbsp;</p>

In the absence of the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, the Indian seam bowling looked listless and without any bite. Shradul Thakur gave away 42 runs in just 3.3 overs and Jaydev Unadkat was spanked for 35 in his 3. Even the usually dependable leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was pretty expensive and went for 37 runs in 4 overs. The only bright spot in India’s bowling was young off-spinner Washington Sundar who took 2 wickets for 28 runs in his 4 overs. Given that India would have to mostly work with this same bowling unit in the rest of the tournament, things do not look pretty great. Perhaps dropping Thakur and giving fast bowler Mohammad Sriraj a few games may work. However, even Sriraj is inexperienced and to expect him to work wonders would be a little too much. One feels that the selectors missed a trick by not adding an experienced pacer in the lineup. Mohammad Shami or Umesh Yadav would have certainly bolstered the bowling unit and given that two haven’t played much-limited overs cricket in the past few months, it would have helped them get in the groove as well. At present, this Indian bowling unit lacks experience on how to bowl on Sri Lankan pitches and will likely suffer in the coming games as well. India’s next match is against Bangladesh and it will be interesting to see how this new-look Indian team responds to that challenge. Another defeat there will make it difficult for team India to progress ahead in the tournament. However, what will hurt India after last night’s result is the inability of the youngsters to perform. This tournament was being looked upon as an opportunity for India’s bench strength to showcase their prowess and for the selectors to see if any new players can be brooded for 2019 World Cup. As far as last night was concerned, things did not look good. Rohit Sharma clearly has a lot on his plate and he would hope that newbies on his side would be able to pull up their socks and perform better in the coming matches. It will be intriguing to see how team India does about things without so many of their regular members.</p>

<p>While India, who is ranked No.3 in T20Is, may have fielded their second string unit for this tri-series, it gives a great opportunity for the team management to test their bench strength. All-rounders Deepak Hooda, Vijay Shankar and Washington Sundar, fast bowler Mohammed Siraj, and wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant have all been included in this series. While these players may not have much international exposure, they have done well in the domestic scene and particularly well in the IPL. This series will give us an idea of who among the young Turks have a future for the country and can be seen as a viable option for the ICC World Cup 2019 squad.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Among the new lot, it would be Rishabh Pant who will be in under most focus. He is considered as the next big thing of Indian cricket and with the prolific form he has shown in the domestic arena, he surely deserves chances here. Mohammed Siraj is also an exciting prospect with his ability to bowl fast and accurate produce swinging yorkers at the death.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Another one to watch out would be KL Rahul who returns to the fold after some time. Rahul had smashed 61 and 89 against Sri Lanka in December last year at home in the three-match T20I series and would relish having another go at them.</p>

Rohit excels in these conditions and simply loves batting against Sri Lanka. He had slammed that sensational 118 off 43 balls in the T20 series against Sri Lanka in December and has already amassed 278 runs in 11 innings against them at a splendid strike-rate of 146.31.</p>

<p>Indian opener Rohit Sharma returned back to form with a match-winning knock of 115 in the fifth ODI against South Africa on Tuesday, which helped the visitors clinch a historic series win with one game to play.</p>
