In a recent interview on Friday (Nov 7), India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh responded to Donald Trump’s claims about many countries testing their nuclear capabilities, and the list included Pakistan, Russia, China and North Korea. Speaking to the news media group Network18, Singh said, “Let them do it if they want to. Only the future will tell what India will do; we have nothing to say in this regard. Whether it's Pakistan or America, whoever wants to do it, is doing it. India does not take any step out of fear or pressure.” This was his reaction to the US president’s comments in news outlet CBS's show ‘60 Minutes’. Trump said, “Russia's testing, and China's testing, but they don't talk about it. We're going to test because they test and others test. And certainly North Korea's been testing. Pakistan's been testing.” India has maintained a clear stance that it will not work under duress. The leadership has been rather focused on enhancing the country's defence capabilities with a huge impetus on homegrown equipment. ‘Make In India’ has been New Delhi’s mantra and has seen remarkable results during Operation Sindoor, the four-day cross-border fighting with neighbouring Pakistan. The nation was forced to take action against Islamabad as it chose to ignore the dastardly terror attack orchestrated by a terror organisation operating from its soil. On April 22, Kashmir's Pahalgam witnessed the worst bloodshed in years that claimed 26 innocent lives, an incident that shook the entire nation. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, in one of the initial briefings to the nation, said, "It was deemed essential that the perpetrators and planners of the 22 April attack be brought to justice. Despite a fortnight having passed since the attacks, there has been no demonstrable step from Pakistan to take action against the terror infrastructure on its territory or territory under its control." He added, "Instead, all it has indulged in are denials and allegations. Our intelligence monitoring of Pakistan-based terrorist modules indicated that further attacks against India were impending. Thus, there was a compulsion both to deter and to preempt."

Rajnath Singh inaugurates Tata's first global defence manufacturing plant in Morocco

Indian defence minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated a private manufacturing facility in Berrechid, Casablanca, Morocco, where India's Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) Wheeled Armoured Platform 8x8 (WhAP 8x8) vehicles would be assembled and integrated. This marks the first overseas defence manufacturing facility established by a private Indian company, underlining India’s private sector capability to design and deliver advanced combat vehicle platforms in partnership with DRDO. The Indian firm's manufacturing facility that is spread across 20,000square meters, will commences the rollout of WhAP 8x8 vehicles from October, said, TASL. The firm added that the facility became operational three months ahead of schedule, and production has already commenced. Speaking on the occasion, Rajnath Singh said that India's vision of being self-reliant does not mean isolation; rather, we aim to develop strategic autonomy under self-reliance. "We want to develop capabilities that allow us to defend out nation independently, while maintaining engagement with global partners. Along with 'Make in India', we are also pursuing 'Make with Friends' and 'Make for the World', this facility in Morocco is a shining example of that approach," he said. 'India can defeat its enemies': Rajnath Singh says Operation Sindoor proves India’s ability to strike back using indigenous strength

Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday (July 29) made a sarcastic jibe at the Opposition during the Operation Sindoor debate in the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of parliament. The session was held on the occasion of Nag Panchami, a Hindu festival dedicated to the worship of serpents. Taunting the Opposition, who have been questioning the government on the Operation Sindoor to avenge Pahalgam terror attack, Singh said that feeding snakes milk on the occasion of Nag Panchami was okay, but not every day. He was referring to the Hindu ritual of offering milk to the snakes on the festival. “I only want to say this to Opposition members, or rather, all members present here...today is Nag Panchami,” Singh said, drawing laughter in the parliament. "Feeding snakes milk on Nag Panchami is fine. But not daily," he added for good measure. “Our vision is that Operation Sindoor will continue. It may pause in between, but it will never stop as long as terrorism exists.” The defence minister also issued a stark warning to Pakistan and the world that India will eliminate terrorism. He also expressed hopes that the people of the Pakistan-occupied Kashmir will return and accept that they are Indians.

What is the significance of offering milk to snakes on Nag Panchami?
The tradition of feeding snakes during Nag Panchami is deeply rooted in Hindu mythology. Snakes are associated with several deities in Hinduism, including Lord Shiva. The ritual is perceived as an act of devotion. It is also associated with seeking blessings and protection from the powerful serpents. The Hindu ritual is a symbol of fertility, purity, and life, as it is believed to appease the deities, ensuring the well-being of the community. The offering of milk is also believed to pacify the snakes during the monsoon season, when they emerge from their burrows due to rain, and prevent harm. While this ritual is deeply rooted in tradition, in reality, snakes do not naturally drink milk. Although some may appear to drink milk due to dehydration or stress. Dairy products can prove to be harmful for snakes.

‘Operation Sindoor is redefining India’s global image’: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh

The Monsoon Session of Parliament turned fiery as the Opposition rolled up its sleeves to corner the government over the Pahalgam terror attack and the subsequent military response. On July 28, 2025, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh called a spade a spade in the Lok Sabha, declaring Operation Sindoor a “historic, decisive, and effective” display of India’s firm stand against terrorism and India halted the operation only after achieving its military objectives. Addressing the House, the Defense Minister underlined the successful military campaign against perpetrators who killed 26 civilians, mostly tourists, in a brutal attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, 2025. The attack, driven by religious motives, shook the conscience of the nation. “The Indian Army achieved a stupendous feat, meeting its military goals without any external or internal pressure,” Singh firmly stated, emphasizing the operation’s precision and independence. The nub of Singh’s statements was to refute US President Donald Trump’s claims of mediating a ceasefire between India and Pakistan. Operation Sindoor, launched on May 6-7, 2025, targeted nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), destroying them with surgical precision while minimizing civilian casualties. He clarified that the operation was paused at Pakistan’s request through direct military channels on May 10, not due to any diplomatic pressure or external intervention. This directly countered Trump’s repeated assertions—26 times since May 10, as claimed by the Congress—that he brokered the truce, even suggesting he prevented a nuclear war. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a June 18 phone call with Trump, had already clarified that the ceasefire was a bilateral decision, a stance echoed by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri at the G7 summit. The Opposition, led by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, seized the moment to question the Modi-led government’s handling of the Pahalgam attack and Trump’s claims. Labeling the US President’s assertions “humiliating,” they demanded a 16-hour debate on Operation Sindoor, set for July 29, to probe alleged intelligence failures. Kharge cited Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha’s admission of lapses, noting that the terrorists responsible remain at large. The Congress argued that the government’s silence on Trump’s narrative risked undermining India’s global credibility. In response, Singh mounted a robust defense, stating, “Results always matter in any examination, not if the pencil broke or the pen was lost.” He emphasized that Pakistan failed to inflict any damage on India’s military assets, while the Indian Army achieved its objective of dismantling terror infrastructure.Operation Sindoor targeted Pakistan-based terror outfits, eliminating over 100 terrorists, including members of Lashkar-e-Taiba, and destroying key infrastructure like China-supplied HQ-9 missile systems. Indian warplanes and strategic planning ensured maximum damage to terror camps without harming innocent civilians, earning global acknowledgment for India’s military prowess. The Defense Minister’s address highlighted the operation’s success in sending a clear message: India will not tolerate cross-border terrorism. The Defense Minister’s visit to Srinagar’s 15 Corps Headquarters on May 15, where he praised the armed forces’ valour, further reinforced this stance. He also called for the International Atomic Energy Agency to oversee Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal, signaling India’s concerns over “nuclear blackmail.”India has consistently extended an olive branch to Pakistan, from the 1999 Lahore Bus Yatra to Modi’s attendance at Nawaz Sharif’s granddaughter’s wedding in 2015 as a gesture of goodwill. However, Singh noted in the Lok Sabha, “India has always emphasized peaceful relations with Pakistan, but our neighbour has failed to understand its merit.” Despite these efforts, Pakistan’s persistent support for terrorism has forced India to adopt a zero-tolerance policy. Modi has driven home the message that “terror and talks cannot go together,” a principle reflected in the 2016 Surgical Strike, the 2019 Balakot Air Strike, and now Operation Sindoor. These operations underscore India’s resolve to safeguard its sovereignty while advocating for global peace under the vision of “One Nation, One Earth, One Future.”The Pahalgam attack, executed by Pakistan-backed terrorists, targeted civilians in a popular tourist destination, prompting nationwide outrage. The Indian Army’s response, authorized by PM Modi, utilized indigenous platforms, showcasing India’s growing self-reliance in defense manufacturing. According to a Ministry of Defense report, the operation involved advanced drones and precision-guided munitions, with no Indian casualties reported. This success has bolstered India’s image as a decisive power, capable of countering terrorism without external reliance. The operation’s global impact was evident when the UN Security Council, in a May 12 statement, condemned the Pahalgam attack and supported India’s right to self-defense, a rare endorsement for New Delhi. However, challenges remain. The Opposition’s push for accountability on intelligence failures and Trump’s narrative risks domestic political friction. Congress MP Shashi Tharoor’s international outreach, while clarifying India’s stance, faced criticism within the party for diluting its aggressive posture. The government must also navigate Pakistan’s propaganda, which falsely claimed civilian casualties in PoK, debunked by India’s satellite imagery evidence.Operation Sindoor highlights India’s sole focus on security and sovereignty. As it marches towards Viksit Bharat by 2047, India’s zero-tolerance policy on terrorism and strategic partnerships signal its emergence as a global leader. Singh’s firm rebuttal of Trump’s claims and the success of Operation Sindoor underscore a clear message: India will protect its sovereignty and peace, no matter the cost.

The government must also navigate Pakistan’s propaganda, which falsely claimed civilian casualties in PoK, debunked by India’s satellite imagery evidence. Operation Sindoor highlights India’s sole focus on security and sovereignty.

On July 28, 2025, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh called a spade a spade in the Lok Sabha, declaring Operation Sindoor a “historic, decisive, and effective” display of India’s firm stand against terrorism and India halted the operation only after achieving its military objectives.

Operation Sindoor: Donald Trump’s ceasefire boast falls flat as Defense Minister Rajnath Singh sets record straight in Lok Sabha

Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, while speaking in the Parliament on Monday (July 28), said that when the 26/11 attack happened in 2008, Pranab Mukherjee - who was then the External Affairs Minister - had rejected the demand for a military response. Singh quoted some excerpts of Mukherjee's book, The Coalition Years, to prove his arguments. "Pranab Mukherjee, in his book 'The Coalition Years', has written that when the Mumbai attack happened, India had evidence that a terrorist came from Karachi Port. But the excuse of 'non-state actors' by Pakistan was not being accepted by the global community. Pranab da has written and I quote, 'Amid the heated debates within the cabinet, there was a demand for military intervention which I rejected'. He (Mukherjee) has written this, not me," Singh said.

"Honorable speaker, a senior official of the Indian foreign services has also confirmed this in his book, his name is Ajay Bisaria and he was probably the foreign secretary, that just after the Mumbai attack, a high level meeting had taken place in which the then External Affairs Minister Panab Mukherjee asked - 'What should be done?' So the Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon suggested that India can attack the Lashkar-e-Taiba headquarters in Muridke. After listening to this, Pranab da removed his glasses, cleaned them, and dismissed the meeting after saying thank you to all the officials," the defence minister added. "The government of that time did what seemed right to them. But I believe that if the then government had taken firm decisions like the 2016 Surgical Strike, 2019 Air Strike, so Pakistan's strategic calculations could have changed. A powerful and decisive action by Pakistan and its military would have proved very disincentive for these 500 terrorist organisations," Singh said. Singh said that after the 2008 attack, the then-government opted for dialogue only. "I want to clarify that this is not a criticism, neither of the government of that time, nor of the then PM, nor of those politicians. The leadership of that time did what seemed right to them," he added. "But today's India thinks differently. And worlds differently. we believe that if your enemy has opted for terrorism as its strategy and does not understand the language of dialogue, then there is no option but to be decisive and stand firm.
