The Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) has refused to accept Chopra&#39;s explanation that an LVMH-TAG watch worth Rs 40 lakh was a gift to her from the company selling it and not part of her professional income. Neither has the tribunal accepted her explanation regarding a Toyota Prius car, valued at Rs 27 lakh.&nbsp;<br />

The value of both items was treated as taxable perquisites in the hands of Chopra, under section 28(iv) of the Income-tax (I-T) Act. The section treats as taxable &quot;the value of any benefit or perquisite (whether convertible into money or not), arising from business or exercise of a profession&quot;.</p>

<p>Priyanka had entered into an endorsement agreement with luxury brand LVMH-TAG Watches in the year 2006 -07. The tribunal noted that apart from fees of Rs 1.40 crore for modeling and promotional activities over a two-year period, Chopra was also gifted a watch worth Rs 40 lakh.<br />

The actress argued that gifts had been given as a token of love by the company and that she should not be taxed for it. To which the tribunal disagreed and stated in its order, &quot;A company, is an artificial person and therefore does not have any emotional feeling of love and affection which is the cardinal factors for treating any transaction as gift&quot;&nbsp;<br />

The order treated the value of the watch as a prerequisite under section 28(iv) which would be subject to tax.&nbsp;<br />

The ITAT also observed that the actor has not been able to produce evidence that the value of the watch was much less. Thus, the taxable amount would be Rs 40 lakh.</p>

And she spoke about her career, her journey to the top, how she took risks to get Hollywood projects and why she chose not to make a public statement on Padmavati controversy in India.<br />

There were around 400 people in the room and we just realized that there were only 4 of us, South-Asians there. <p>Steering clear of taking names, Priyanka admitted that she had lost out on projects because she never succumbed to power. &quot;Yes, I have been thrown out of films because someone else has been recommended. A girlfriend of the actor or the director was recommended instead- that&rsquo;s an abuse of power. I couldn&rsquo;t do anything about it because I did not have the power nor did I cater to the whims and fancies of certain powerful men, so I did lose out on projects.&quot;</p>

<p><strong>On</strong><strong> doing Hindi films again</strong></p>

<p>&quot;My last releases -<em>Bajirao Mastani </em>and <em>Jai Gangajal</em>- were two and a half years back. When did Hrithik&#39;s last film release? Why aren&#39;t the boys asked such question, why only actresses?&quot; said Priyanka when she was asked why she is not featuring in Hindi films anymore. &quot;I am still working. <p>Dressed in a red jumpsuit, Priyanka Chopra looked every bit of a superstar as she took center stage to speak at Penguin Annual Lecture on Tuesday evening in the capital. The actress spoke about breaking the glass ceiling and how she chased her dream and became a successful global star.</p>

<p>While the night was mostly about how her successful career and she being able to challenge a whole lot of stereotypes, the conversation also veered towards the raging issues of this year- the <em>Padmavati</em> row and the &#39;Me Too&#39; movement.</p>

<p>Priyanka mostly played safe while commenting on the issues and even explained that why Indian celebrities choose to keep mum about such things.</p>

<p>When a senior journalist prodded her to comment on the controversy around the release of <em>Padmavati</em>, PC stated that she supported Sanjaya Leela Bhansali and Deepika Padukone and hoped that the film would release. &ldquo; I did call them up and speak to them,&rdquo; Priyanka said and added, &quot;I hope that the film releases. And can be viewed by everyone else.&rdquo;</p>

<p>When she was asked why she chose not to make a statement publicly on the issue, Priyanka said, &ldquo;Because I as an individual feel used when my quote is run as a ticker on news channels. Have you not seen? The polarisation that happens not just in terms of religion but gender as well in this country- why are such questions asked to only actors and not to government authorities and politicians? What can an actor do to change what&rsquo;s happening in the country? I am as much a member of this civil society as you.&rdquo; Priyanka was referring to the whole anti-National debate that had ensued in 2016 against Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan for commenting on the polarisation that has taken place in the country.</p>

<p>&ldquo;I can have an opinion but I should not be pushed to a corner and made a scapegoat for it,&quot; the actress said.</p>

<p>When she was reminded how in Hollywood, actresses have come forward to speak out on issues- Priyanka said that there is a cultural difference in America which allows one to speak out. &ldquo;Meryl Streep could speak out against Trump because that&rsquo;s how the culture is. In India, we are very different. There are certain cultural boundaries here and we must respect that.&rdquo;</p>

<p>The actress also believed that the &lsquo;Me Too&rsquo; movement did not just cater to Americans but had an impact globally. Did she ever face anything similar here in India? &ldquo;I am very feisty. People get scared of me,&rdquo; the actress said but admitted, &ldquo;Yes I have been thrown out of films because someone else has been recommended. A girlfriend of the actor or the director was recommended instead- that&rsquo;s an abuse of power. I couldn&rsquo;t do anything about it because I did not have the power nor did I cater to the whims and fancies of certain powerful men, so I did lose out on projects.&quot;</p>

<p>Work on the script for the third installment of Don franchise, featuring Shah Rukh Khan, has started, producer Ritesh Sidhwani said.<br />

On December 23, <em>Don 2</em> completed six years and Sidhwani said the film will happen soon.<br />

&quot;It will happen sooner than you know as we have started working on the script and the story. I think we need to crack the story as the responsibility is more (to get it right for the third part). With the next film in <em>Don</em>&nbsp;franchise we won&#39;t take that much time, we will make it fast,&quot; he told PTI.<br />

According to Sidhwani, the team would make an official announcement about <em>Don 3</em>&nbsp;next year.<br />

Priyanka Chopra speaks about women empowerment at UN Global Goals Awards

<p>Priyanka Chopra faced a backlash after she said&nbsp;Sikkim is&nbsp;&quot;troubled by insurgency&quot;.</p>

<p>Priyanka was talking to ET Canada about her new film Pahuna: The Little Visitors, which she said is the first movie to come out of the region.</p>

<p>People were quick to point out that Sikkim is&nbsp;actually not troubled by insurgency -- it has no insurgent groups -- and that there have been a number of films from the region.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Priyanka is in Canada for the Toronto International Film Festival.&nbsp;</p>

<p>But the intent gaze of her kohl-rimmed eyes, as she stands with arms folded on the edge of the dancefloor in an all-black outfit, watching couples bob and twirl to the music, gives away her real occupation.</p>

<p>She is Social&#39;s famous female bouncer.</p>

<p>Mehrunnisha has been a bouncer for nearly a decade, and for the last three years, has done 10-hour night shifts at Social, which functions as a restaurant and co-working space seating 220 people by day, but morphs into a packed club at night.</p>

<p>Now Mehrunnisha is expert in breaking up bar fights, frisking female customers, and uncovering illegal drugs.</p>

<p>&quot;We decided to employ women to make sure that women customers too felt safe, and we found a great match in Mehrunnisha,&quot; said Social&#39;s owner Riyaaz Amlani, who says she helped has defuse innumerable alcohol-fuelled quarrels.</p>

<p>The 30-year-old&#39;s career highlights include being part of the security detail for Bollywood actresses such as Priyanka Chopra, the star of the US&nbsp;television drama series &quot;Quantico&quot;, Preity Zinta and Vidya Balan.</p>

<p>Mehrunnisha is no stranger to smashing stereotypes.</p>

<p>Growing up in a large Muslim family in the northern farming town of Saharanpur, 200 kilometres&nbsp;(124 miles) from Delhi, she dreamed of joining the army or becoming a police officer, but her deeply conservative father opposed the idea.</p>

<p>Only her mother&#39;s insistence allowed her to further her education beyond primary school.</p>

<p>But when her father&#39;s stock market losses forced the family to move to the capital, Mehrunnisha, still in college, became the breadwinner for a household consisting of parents, two sisters, and her elder sister&#39;s three children, besides herself.</p>

<p>&quot;Several times my brother has asked me, what sort of a job is this?&quot; Mehrunnisha said during a shopping expedition to prepare for Eid al-Fitr, which ends the holy month of Ramadan, recounting how difficult it had been to get her family to accept her night shifts.</p>

<p>&quot;But this does not affect me, because my mother and father have faith and confidence in me, and I know I am not doing anything wrong.&quot;</p>

So when you hear about a movie being made on the same plot with a cast like&nbsp;Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron, you automatically get interested in the idea and things. Add to that our very own Priyanka Chopra as the antagonist and you expect a great movie, but alas. Directed by Seth Gordon (fame Horrible Bosses), Baywatch was supposed to follow the formula of Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum&rsquo;s super-hilarious 21 Jump Street, another movie reboot of a forgotten show but Baywatch doesn&#39;t live up to the expectations. Here&#39;s more on the movie:&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>What&rsquo;s it about</strong></p>

<p>Mitch (Dwayne Johnson) is the lieutenant of lifeguards at Emerald Bay, Florida who is dead serious about his job and is often considered the Batman of the beach. When his team needs new recruits, the city council coaxes him to accept Matt Brody (Zac Efron), a disgraced Olympic swimmer, into his team. Mitch doesn&rsquo;t like Matt&rsquo;s attitude and vice-versa and they often end up clashing against&nbsp;each other. There are two other new recruits, Summer (Alexandra Daddario), on whom Matt takes an instant liking, and Ronnie (Jon Bass) who has the hots for the airheaded senior lifeguard CJ (Kelly Rohrbach). After the initial hazing of the new recruits, Mitch and his team get involved in a far more dark venture, when drugs and bodies turn up on their beach and suspicion fall on Victoria Leeds (Priyanka Chopra), the sexy but slimy business-woman.</p>

<p><strong>What&rsquo;s hot</strong></p>

<p>One thing we have to admit about Baywatch is that it has a great-looking cast. There is plenty of eye-candy for both men and women, especially for latter, with Johnson and Efron showing off their pecs at every other scene. Both the actors are charming when they spar off with each other, especially when Johnson calls Efron everything from &lsquo;High School Musical&rsquo; to &lsquo;Bieber&rsquo; to &lsquo;One Direction&rsquo;, but never his real name. Some of the gags work in the initial portions of the movie, thanks to these scenes. The rest of the cast do good with what they have. Speaking of Priyanka Chopra, she puts up a fine act as the villain of the piece, oozing sexuality and menace at the same time.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>What&rsquo;s not</strong></p>

<p>Priyanka looks good but she is hardly there in the movie. It would have definitely been better has there been more scenes of actually doing things than just a mention of them. The same goes for some of the other characters in the main cast, who disappear for quite some time post mid-point. But let&rsquo;s talk about the main problem with Baywatch &ndash; it wanted to do a 21 Jump Street with the Pamela Anderson show and ends up doing a miserable job of that. The tone of the movie is quite uneven, as the movie doesn&rsquo;t know whether it has to pretend to be a comedy or a thriller. After some jokes at the start, the movie tried very hard to make us laugh but in the process, ends up making us grimace painfully. The entire drug plot is uninteresting and bland, and adds nothing of value to the plot. The R-rated humour is mostly related to d**k-jokes that are butchered by our dear Censor Board, with one scene even lifted off from There is Something About Mary. The premise is stupid&nbsp;and predictable. The two romantic subplots in the movie are added just for the heck of it.</p>

<p>The editing also feels shoddy, with a random scene popping in and ruining the effect of the previous one, and characters wearing the same clothes on two separate days. The special effects are also surprisingly crappy. The much talked about cameos from Hasselhoff and Anderson are blah.</p>

<p>The original TV show was no Breaking Bad, but it had that iconic status because it delivered what the audience wanted then in the pre-internet era &ndash; sexy lifeguards running slo-mo on the beach. This Baywatch ends up as a painful and confused tribute to that series that no one asked for. It needed more laughs, more sexiness, and more Priyanka Chopra in order to be a passable affair, in the least. Unfortunately, it&rsquo;s not. Disappointing!</p>
