Tottenham Hotspur have appealed the red card shown to striker Son Heung-min for the tackle that led to Everton midfielder Andre Gomes suffering a horrific ankle injury in their <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/gomes-suffers-horror-ankle-injury-devastated-son-sees-red-as-everton-deny-tottemham-hotspurs-259857">Premier League match</a> on Sunday, British media have reported.

Gomes suffered a fracture dislocation to his right ankle in the second half of the 1-1 draw at Goodison Park after landing off balance at speed after the tackle from Son and then colliding with Spurs full-back Serge Aurier.

Portugal international Gomes had surgery on Monday and Everton said afterwards he was expected to make a full recovery.

Referee Martin Atkinson showed Son a red card for his tackle on Gomes and the Premier League said after the match that he had been dismissed for "endangering the safety of a player".

Both the BBC and the Guardian reported that Spurs had appealed to the Football Association asking for the red card to be rescinded.

South Korea international Son, who was in tears in the dressing room after the match, will be banned for Tottenham's next three Premier League matches against Sheffield United, West Ham and Bournemouth if the appeal is unsuccessful.

The passionate debate over Video Assistant Referee (VAR) reviews in the Premier League took a surreal turn on Saturday when Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino's armpit was ruled offside.

Firmino's 28th-minute shot would have been an equaliser for Liverpool, who were trailing 1-0 to Aston Villa at the time, but a linesman ruled him offside and VAR confirmed that.

"The red line signifies Firmino was aligned to his armpit, which was marginally ahead of the last Villa defender," the Premier League tweeted by way of explanation above a photo with a line perpendicular to the ground going into the Brazilian's armpit.

Liverpool might have been furious at the ruling - had they not scored two late goals to snatch victory.

"We won 2-1, it’s now not that serious," Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp said, adding that his analyst had shown him the incident after the game and he did not see an infraction.

"Sometimes it’s in your favour, and sometimes it’s against you. That's how it is. We have to make sure the new system helps the game and not confuses, that's all."

Villa manager Dean Smith said he thought Firmino was hard done by. "They’ve had the disallowed goal in the first half which I thought was a goal ... We’ve had gnat’s hair goals ruled against us ourselves (in past games)."

Premier League leaders Liverpool may have got some late luck against Aston Villa and must improve, but still merited their latest comeback, elated manager Juergen Klopp said on Saturday.

Klopp's table-topping side were staring at their first league defeat in 10 months until the 87th minute of their game at Villa Park, but snatched a last-gasp victory thanks to headers from Andy Robertson and Sadio Mane.

"We still have to learn, we still have to improve, we do, we will, I know that," Klopp told reporters after celebrating on the pitch at Villa Park with his relieved players.

"And sometimes you need to get knocks ... But at the end, in the moment, so far, we could sort it, most of the time. Yes of course when you score these kind of goals, it’s lucky but it’s not that we didn’t deserve to win the game."

Asked about his emotions, after Villa surprisingly took the game to Liverpool and could have scored within 60 seconds before they did in the 21st minute, Klopp said he has a single focus.

"I never thought a second about 'did we lose already?' or 'can we win?' We just have to try to score, that’s everything.

"It’s not that I think because now we have a couple of comebacks today is another comeback," said Klopp, whose team also went a goal down to Tottenham Hotspur last weekend before winning 2-1.

"We know it’s possible, everybody knows it’s possible, but we really know it, and the boys tried it ... That’s football ... We don’t have any alternatives, what can we do?"

Villa manager Dean Smith thought his team also deserved something from the game.

"It wasn’t one-way traffic, we’ve had opportunities to make it two-nil," he said. "I’m very proud of their performance … I think we’re a very competitive team at this level … Today we’ve gone toe-to-toe.

"I'm proud but also hurt because we deserved something from that game. We’ve got to take that hurt into the next game and learn from it."

<a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/manchester-united-will-reinforce-squad-in-january-says-ole-gunnar-solskjaer-256463">Ole Gunnar Solskjaer</a> breathed a huge sigh of relief after Manchester United ended their eight-month wait for a Premier League away win as his side beat Norwich City 3-1 on Sunday.

Goals from Scott McTominay, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial capped a stunning United performance in an entertaining game at Carrow Road.

After last weekend's gritty <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/liverpool-winning-streak-ends-with-draw-at-manchester-united-257174">draw at Old Trafford</a> ended Liverpool's 100 per cent start to the season, the thought of a block of four straight away league and cup games must have had Solskjaer squirming.

Yet his side, still missing Paul Pogba, saw off Partizan Belgrade in the Europa League on Thursday to clear the first hurdle.&nbsp;

With Norwich now also put to the sword, United will travel to Chelsea and Bournemouth in the coming week with a spring in their step.

It could have even been worse for the hosts if Canaries keeper Tim Krul had not saved penalties from Rashford and Martial after two VAR decisions controversially overruled match referee Stuart Attwell.

Reds manager Solskjaer did not dwell too long on the drama after watching his side put in a dominant performance against a Norwich side who had already stunned rivals Manchester City this season.

Solskjaer admitted: "It's been too long but it's great to have it done. But of course, the performance was the pleasing thing."

United's puzzling form has seen them able to hold their own against this season's Premier League's big hitters, taking eight points from 12 against Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and Leicester.&nbsp;

Yet, until today they had failed to beat Southampton, Newcastle, Wolves and West Ham on the road.

The Norwegian said: "This is a difficult place to come to, but when we are as focused and concentrated and on the front foot as we were today then we can beat anyone away from home."

The most positive aspect of the performance was the chaos wreaked on the Norwich defence by in-form England striker Rashford and Martial, who has just returned from a two-month injury lay-off.&nbsp;

They were ably supported by Andreas Pereira and Daniel James, with Harry Maguire at the heart of a solid defence.

Solskjaer believes Martial can have a huge impact on United's season if he can stay fit.

"It was a great finish by Anthony," he said. "He's vital for us. He's a top striker, and to have him back fit, smiling and enjoying his football is a big thing for us. He's clever in his movement and one thing he's not given credit for is his defending."

McTominay punished sloppy home defending to bag United's 2000th Premier League goal midway through the first half and the visitors never looked back.

Rashford doubled United's lead when he finished off a counter-attack and Martial get on the scoresheet in the 73rd minute, curling the ball past Krul after exchanging passes with Rashford.

Norwich substitute Onel Hernandez became the first Cuban to score in the <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/football-mohamed-salah-fires-liverpool-to-comeback-win-over-spurs-258415">Premier League</a> with a late consolation.

But manager Daniel Farke is sweating on the fitness of star keeper Krul, who ended the match limping down the tunnel after damaging his problem knee.

Neither manager was impressed by the two delays caused by VAR interventions.

The first penalty award was particularly baffling after speedy winger James and Canaries defender Ben Godfrey collided chasing the same ball.

Farke said: "Quite obviously it was a mistake. It took two minutes to overrule and it was quite obvious that the foul was on my centre back.

"We are all human beings but when you want to overrule the referee then you must be 100 per cent sure he's made a mistake."

Mohamed Salah claimed the 50th Anfield goal of his <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/liverpool-dominates-ballon-dor-shortlist-with-seven-names-257421">Liverpool career</a> from the penalty spot as the Premier League leaders restored their six-point advantage at the top of the table after surviving a major scare against Tottenham.

It was a comeback victory that had Liverpool's demanding manager Jurgen Klopp heaping praise on his players for their composure in responding after Harry Kane had shot Spurs into a shock lead with only 47 seconds played.

Salah struck a clinical 75th-minute penalty into the bottom right-hand corner after Serge Aurier tripped Sadio Mane, which took him to a half-century of home goals in just his 58th outing.

It completed a second-half comeback, started when Jordan Henderson cancelled out a<a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/liverpool-winning-streak-ends-with-draw-at-manchester-united-257174"> dramatic opening goal</a> from Kane.

There was more good news for Liverpool supporters after the game when Klopp revealed that Salah, who limped off in the closing minutes with what appeared to be an ankle problem, was only removed as a precaution.

"When we were 1-0 down, we didn't chase it immediately. We just played it," said a delighted Klopp.&nbsp;

"Very often the result is the result of the performance. The performance was really, really good. I liked it a lot. Being 1-0 down against Tottenham with the strength they have in counter-attacking is really tough."

He added: "The game I loved, a super game, how football should look, how we should play against a really strong, good organised side."

<a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/tottenham-making-same-old-mistakes-says-harry-kane-250773">Kane</a> struck inside a minute, becoming the joint-third highest scorer in the famous club's history with his 174th goal in Tottenham colours.

It was also one of the simplest after Moussa Sissoko sparked a scrambling counter-attack and set Son Heung-min racing upfield.

The South Korean's powerful strike from the edge of the area took a wild deflection off the head of Dejan Lovren before striking the woodwork but the rebound fell kindly for Kane to stoop and head into the gaping net.

It was a lead that lasted, somehow, until the 52nd minute when a Henderson cross was headed clear and turned back into the area by Fabinho.

Danny Rose appeared to nudge Roberto Firmino in the back but, with referee Anthony Taylor unmoved, the ball continued to the corner of the six-yard area where Henderson hit it on the half-volley into the Spurs goal.

Minutes earlier, Spurs might have doubled their lead when Son was sent clear on the end of a long clearance by keeper Paulo Gazzaniga. He rounded Alisson Becker but could only strike the cross-bar from a tricky angle.

But the equaliser was no more than Liverpool deserved after a dominant first-half spell in which only an inspired performance from stand-in goalkeeper Gazzaniga maintained the visitors' lead.

In one breathless, four-minute spell, Liverpool carved out five excellent chances, with Gazzaniga peerless in dealing with them.

"In this season we deserve more points on the table," said Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino, whose side are languishing in 11th spot in the table.

"It's a moment to stay strong, to keep pushing. Of course in a different season, this could have finished two or three-nil for us. But today for us it is a different way and it is important for us it is to stay calm and take the best decisions for the future.

"I've nothing (critical) to say because after five-and-a-half years it's a moment to be all together and show our support."

Sheffield United moved into the top half of the Premier League table with a 1-0 win over Arsenal at Bramall Lane on Monday that ended the Gunners’ eight-match unbeaten run.

Unai Emery’s side had not been beaten in any competition since their 3-1 loss to Liverpool on Aug 24, but they missed out on the chance to move up to third as the hosts earned a deserved victory.

Lys Mousset poked home the winner from close range on his first league start for the Blades after Nicolas Pepe wasted a gilt-edged chance for Arsenal earlier in the first half.

"For the club to host a game like this, the magnitude of it - to play well and get a win is massive,” Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder told Sky Sports.

"We came under pressure in the second half but we limited them to a few chances and we backed up a good performance with a good result.”

The result leaves Arsenal in fifth place on 15 points, two behind Leicester City and Chelsea, while Sheffield United moved into ninth on 12 points.

Arsenal came into the game with five wins in their last six games in all competitions, while the Blades had lost their last three home games in a row.

The defeat continued a poor run of away form for the Gunners, who have now picked up just two points from their last four league matches on the road.

Emery was left unhappy with the result and believed his side should have been awarded a penalty in the first half for a shirt pull by John Egan on Sokratis Papastathopoulos, which was waved away by referee Mike Dean.

"With VAR, the foul on Sokratis should have been reviewed," said the Arsenal manager.

"It was clear but we have to accept it. We did not deserve to lose and we will think about where we can improve."

Pepe squandered a glorious chance to give Arsenal the lead midway through the first half when he got on the end of a Sead Kolasinac cross but miscued his finish horribly from six yards out.

Mousset punished the visitors’ wastefulness when Jack O’Connell headed a corner into his path for the striker to bundle in from close range after half an hour.

Granit Xhaka connected well with a half-volley on the brink of half time but was denied by a flying save from Dean Henderson, and after the break Arsenal substitute, Dani Ceballos fluffed a volley from a promising position to give the goalkeeper a comfortable save.

United’s defence held firm and the home side threatened to double their lead through John Fleck, who hit a rasping shot into the side netting before striking a swerving effort from distance which had to be gathered at the second time of asking by Bernd Leno.

"We came under pressure in the second half but we limited them to a few chances and we backed up a good performance with a good result.” The result leaves Arsenal in fifth place on 15 points, two behind Leicester City and Chelsea, while Sheffield United moved into ninth on 12 points. We did not deserve to lose and we will think about where we can improve." Pepe squandered a glorious chance to give Arsenal the lead midway through the first half when he got on the end of a Sead Kolasinac cross but miscued his finish horribly from six yards out.

Sheffield United end Arsenal's unbeaten run with impressive home win

Manchester United ended Liverpool's 100 per cent start to the Premier League season, and their 17 matches winning streak, with a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford on Sunday.

But there was a disappointment for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side who were five minutes away from a surprise win before Liverpool substitute Adam Lallana grabbed an equaliser for the league leaders to cancel out Marcus Rashford's 36th-minute opener.

It was yet another Premier League game with VAR controversy which will continue to provoke debate about the system introduced this season.

The result cuts Liverpool's lead over second-placed Manchester City to six points and Juergen Klopp's side was far from their best.

"We were good enough for a point," said Klopp, "We were in charge 100% towards the end. We wanted a different result but to do that you have to play better."

United are now unbeaten in their last seven home games against Liverpool and while their battling display will boost morale, the 20-times champions are adrift in 13th place, 15 points behind the leaders.

"We have a team that works for each other and maybe this will turn their season," said Solskjaer.

"They are disappointed because they feel we should have won. Our fans showed they can see what's happening and we will get there."

It has been many years since United went into this fixture as clear underdogs with just two victories from their opening eight games.

On paper, the United line-up matched up poorly against Klopp’s side, especially with Paul Pogba out injured and Anthony Martial restricted to the bench as he returned from an injury lay-off.

Liverpool was without Egyptian striker Mohamed Salah, who was ruled out with an ankle injury with Divock Origi given a rare start alongside Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane in attack while Brazilian keeper Alisson Becker returned from injury.

Solskjaer’s headaches were added to when defender Axel Tuanzebe was injured during the warm-up, meaning Argentine Marcos Rojo had to be thrust into the starting 11.

But from the outset, United worked tirelessly, chasing down the ball in midfield and grew in belief while Liverpool never found their usual standard of fluency and invention.

Rashford scored after turning home a superb low cross from Dan James after the speedy Welshman had broken down the right flank.

The goal was subject to a video review and allowed to stand despite Liverpool claims that Victor Lindelof had fouled Origi at the start of the move.

Liverpool thought they had got level, two minutes before the interval, when Mane outfought Lindelof and poked home but the VAR review showed the Senegalese forward had handled the ball.

But Klopp's side, who had struggled to find openings, finally broke through in the 85th minute when Lallana slotted home Andy Robertson's low cross.

Liverpool winning streak ends with draw at Manchester United

Premier League leaders Liverpool head to Old Trafford on Sunday to face Manchester United and rarely have the odds been so in favour of an away win.

Liverpool have won just five times at United in the Premier League era and the Red Devils have won the fixture 16 times, but the gulf in quality between the sides has widened significantly in recent years.

While Juergen Klopp's side has a 100 per cent&nbsp;record in the Premier League, United have just two league wins this season and after their 1-0 defeat by Newcastle United the international break, they are down in 12th place, 15 points behind their arch-rivals.

To add to their problems, United look set to be without goalkeeper David De Gea who picked up a groin injury on international duty with Spain.

"David needs a scan. I think he'll be out. It certainly looked like it anyway...so it's just one of those things," said manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Argentine Sergio Romero is expected to stand in for De Gea and can expect a busy time against Klopp's potent attack.

French midfielder Paul Pogba has not yet recovered fully from his ankle injury but there is better news on the fitness of forward Anthony Martial and full-backs Luke Shaw and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

"I can't tell you 100 per cent (who) is going to be fit as something might happen," said Solskjaer.

"But hopefully Aaron and Anthony will last the training this week and be available for selection. If it's for half a game or 30 minutes I don't know but let's see where they're at," he said.

United's Spanish midfielder Juan Mata believes the clash with their old rivals offers an opportunity to kick-start the season.

"We have a great chance to change the dynamic and we are all very motivated to take the win. We are United, we are playing at home and we will give everything to be able to take the victory that our fans deserve in such a special game," Mata said.

Champions Manchester City faces a tricky trip to Selhurst Park to face a Crystal Palace team who beat them at the Etihad in January.

City are eight points adrift of Liverpool. Palace sits just two points behind City in the sixth position after an impressive start to the season, but this fixture is the first of a straight run of five against sides directly above them.

Tottenham Hotspur, beaten 3-0 at Brighton &amp; Hove Albion last time out, will look to bounce back against winless bottom club Watford.

Fourth-placed Leicester City host Burnley who are seventh and Frank Lampard's improving Chelsea entertain Newcastle on Saturday.

Third-placed Arsenal visits Sheffield United on Monday.

Liverpool head to United with widest gulf in years

Manchester United will try to sign one or two players in the January transfer window to improve their chances of finishing in the top four but will not spend big on transfer fees and wages, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said.

United are 12th in the Premier League ahead of <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/liverpool-head-to-united-with-widest-gulf-in-years-256390">Sunday's home game </a>against league leaders Liverpool after a poor start to the season that has been further disrupted by injuries to key players.

Solskjaer sanctioned the departures of forwards Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez in the close season without reinforcing United's attack and the Norwegian also has goalkeeper David De Gea and midfielder Paul Pogba out injured.

"We're looking at one or two new signings. We're one or two players light," Solskjaer told Sky Sports. "If the right ones are available in January then we might do something. If not, these players will give everything (for a top four finish).

"I'm not going to go down the route of bringing players in on big contracts and big fees if they're not the right ones for the whole group and for the future. The money is there to strengthen in January and in the summer."

United started the season with a 4-0 win over Chelsea but have scored five goals in seven league matches since and Solskjaer said an injury to forward Anthony Martial, who has not played since August, was a factor in their struggles.

"There's many reasons, but one of them is injuries to Anthony," the 46-year-old former United player said. "Creating chances has been a challenge for us with teams dropping deep.

"But we're practising patterns every single week. When we get the players fit, I'm going to make Marcus and Anthony score those scruffy goals, as that's what I did."

Manchester United will reinforce squad in January, says manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer urged Manchester United's youngsters to be more ruthless after they survived a League Cup scare against third tier Rochdale on Wednesday.

Solskjaer was subjected to calls for his sacking on social media after United needed a 5-3 penalty shoot-out win to edge past Rochdale after a limp 1-1 draw at Old Trafford.

Following Sunday's chastening Premier League loss at West Ham, United were in trouble again when Rochdale's 16-year-old Luke Matheson cancelled out Mason Greenwood's opener.

United keeper Sergio Romero saved the day by denying Jimmy Keohane in the shoot-out, earning a last 16 trip to Chelsea.

It was a let-off for Solskjaer's men and a further reminder of the need to make their chances count, having converted just one of their 31 shots.

"We go 1-0 up in many games. Today it's again go 1-0 up and you think 'go on then, get the second' which is the key now and that is learning curve for these boys as well," said Solskjaer, whose side are a lowly eighth in the Premier League.

"We need to go for a second. At this club you don't just sit back and hope that's enough good. If you settle for good enough, that's not what we want."

Greenwood, 17, was one of the few positives after wriggling free to score in front of the Stretford End - just as he did in the Europa League against Astana last week.

"He has two great feet and took the penalty with his right, so he must be a nightmare for defenders having him one on one in the box," Solskjaer said.

"He can go both ways, which is for me fantastic and you can just see he has got quality and he will get his share of games."

Under-fire Solskjaer could have done with an easier draw than a clash with Chelsea, but United did beat them on the first day of the season and he said: "If you want to win it, you have to beat the best.

"We play them first game of the season this year. We played them in the FA Cup last year and it slots into a couple of weeks with loads of travelling."

United will have four successive away games, with trips to Norwich, Partizan Belgrade, Chelsea and Bournemouth as October turns to November.

"That's how it is. And we have got to make the best out of it - and I am sure we are because that's the type of group this is, that's the type of club we are," Solskjaer said.

"We are not going to say 'argh', we're going to relish it and look forward to it."

Two men have been charged following the <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/arsenal-stars-ozil-kolasinac-escape-unhurt-attempted-carjacking-by-knife-wielding-attackers-238508">attempted robbery</a> of Arsenal stars <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/watch-arsenals-sead-kolasinac-fights-back-masked-robbers-in-north-london-238570">Mesut Ozil and Sead Kolasinac</a>, according to British media reports on Tuesday.

Germany midfielder Ozil and Bosnia defender Kolasinac were targeted by knife-wielding men riding mopeds who tried to car-jack them in north London on July 25.

Kolasinac was seen chasing attackers away from the car that he and Ozil had been driving in before they eventually found safety at a local restaurant.

The two players have only recently returned to playing for the Premier League side after missing several matches following concerns about their security at the start of the season.

Reports in the UK said that Ashley Smith, 30, of Cardinals Way in north London, has been charged with attempted robbery and threatening a person with an offensive weapon on September 5.

Jordan Northover, 26, of West Yorkshire, faces the same two charges.

Smith, who also faces a charge of possession of cannabis, was remanded in custody and will appear at Snaresbrook Crown Court in London on Thursday.

Pep Guardiola insisted on Tuesday that <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/bernardo-silva-comes-under-fire-from-anti-racism-charity-over-mendy-tweet-251541">Bernardo Silva is not guilty of racism</a> over a tweet the Manchester City star sent to his team-mate Benjamin Mendy.

The English Football Association has written to the Premier League champions requesting their observations after Silva posted pictures on social media on Sunday comparing Mendy to the character on a packet of Conguitos chocolates.

Anti-racism organisation Kick It Out has called on English football's governing body to take action.

City manager Guardiola was asked for his thoughts after his side's 3-0 League Cup third-round win at Preston.

He was quick to defend Portugal star Silva from the accusations and said the pair are good friends.

"Honestly, I don't know what is going to happen but they should put the focus on other issues," Guardiola told reporters.

"They don't know which guy you are talking about. Bernardo is one of the most lovely people I have ever met in my life.

"He speaks four or five languages -- that is the best way to understand how open-minded he is -- and one of his best friends is Mendy.

"He is like a brother for him. The image for the two is not about the colour of the skin.

"He took a picture of Benjamin when he was young and he related it (to) this cartoon -- quite similar, for the image.

"If they want to do that, to ask Bernardo, we'd be open to talk, but first to do that you want to know exactly which person are you talking about.

"There are many situations when white people, the colour, and you look at cartoons and it is quite similar as your face and you put it in there. It is not about that.

"I think the response from Mendy was clear after that. It was a joke all the time. Maybe, what I've said many times, my advice is do not use too much social media. That is what happens.

"If something happens it would be a mistake because Bernardo is an exceptional person."

With Silva starting and Mendy appearing as a second-half substitute, holders City eased to victory at Deepdale.

All their goals came in the first half with Raheem Sterling, Gabriel Jesus and a Ryan Ledson own goal sealing the win.

Tottenham Hotspur's unsettled squad must make up for time lost in pre-season and build togetherness to arrest a slump in form, manager Mauricio Pochettino said after the London side crashed out of the League Cup on Tuesday.

Tottenham, runners-up to Liverpool in the Champions League last season, lost 4-3 on penalties to League Two (fourth-tier) Colchester United after a 2-1 defeat by Leicester City in the Premier League on Saturday.

"We need time again to build that togetherness that you need when you're competing at this level," Pochettino, who is yet to win a trophy at Tottenham since joining in 2014, told reporters.

Pochettino had endured a testing pre-season in which Danish playmaker Christian Eriksen was linked by the Spanish media with a switch to Real Madrid, while two losses in six league games has only added to the Argentine manager's troubles.

"When you have an unsettled squad always it's difficult and you lose time. You need time to recover the time you lose," Pochettino added.

"That's where we are. Maybe our performances are good but you need this extra, which is mental, connection. It's energy to be together, not to have different agendas in the squad."

Tottenham host Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday and Pochettino said his players had to stay calm to get back to winning ways.

"We are in a period where it's a bit tough for us but we keep working to find a solution," he said.

"When this type of thing happens it's about staying clear, fresh and calm. We're trying to find solutions and we only need time."

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that the emotional high of his side's Champions League triumph inspired him to join the Common Goal charity.

Klopp will join a host of star names from the world of football, including Manchester United's Juan Mata and FIFA women's player of the year Megan Rapinoe, by donating one percent of his salary to aid the work of charities across the world.

The 52-year-old, who was crowned FIFA men's coach of the year on Monday, told the Players Tribune of difficult times he suffered early in his career as an amateur footballer, working in a warehouse while trying to support his young family.

And while he now faces the pressure of trying to deliver Liverpool's first Premier League title in 30 years, Klopp insisted he and his players have the luxury of no longer living in the 'real world'.

"We should not forget what it was like when we had&nbsp;real&nbsp;problems," said Klopp.

"This bubble we live in is not the real world. I am sorry, but anything that happens on a football pitch is not a real problem. There should be a bigger purpose to this game than revenue and trophies, no?

"Just think what we could accomplish if we all came together and gave one percent of what we earn to make a positive difference in the world. Maybe I am naive. Maybe I am a crazy old dreamer.&nbsp;

"But who is this game for?&nbsp; We all know damn well that this game is for dreamers."

After a stunning comeback from losing the first leg of their Champions League semi-final 3-0 to Barcelona to beat the Spanish champions 4-0 at Anfield in May, Liverpool lifted their sixth European Cup by beating Tottenham 2-0 in Madrid.

On their return to Liverpool, an open-top bus parade took the team passed hundreds of thousands of celebrating fans on the city's streets.

"If you could’ve put all the emotions, all the excitement, all the love in the air that day and bottled it up, the world would be a better place," added Klopp.

"I have not been able to get the emotion of that day out of my head. Football has given me everything in my life. But I really want to do more to give back to the world."

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that the emotional high of his side's Champions League triumph inspired him to join the Common Goal charity. Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva has come under fire from anti-racism body Kick It Out after a Twitter post concerning team mate Benjamin Mendy that he deleted an hour after posting.

Silva, who scored a hat-trick in Manchester City's 8-0 hammering of Watford on Saturday, posted a message comparing Mendy to the character used in the logo for Conguitos, a brand of confectionary popular in Spain and Portugal.

"We are extremely disappointed to see the tweet posted by Bernardo Silva, which has since been deleted," Kick it Out said in a statement on Monday.

"Racist stereotypes are never acceptable as 'banter', and we're shocked that someone who is a role model to millions has failed to understand the discriminatory nature of his post."

Kick It Out said the FA had been notified and that they believe "retrospective action" should be taken, including "mandatory education".

Silva, who deleted the post an hour after it was published on Sunday, posted another message saying "Can't even joke with a friend these days....you guys."

The two players were teammates at Monaco before joining Manchester City in 2017.

West Ham inflicted more away-day pain on a poor Manchester United side on Sunday, lifting themselves to fourth in the Premier League with a comfortable 2-0 win at the London Stadium.

Andriy Yarmolenko's goal shortly before half-time and a wonderful late Aaron Cresswell free-kick extended United's barren run on the road.

United, who started the season by thumping Chelsea 4-0, have lost twice already in their opening six league games and lie seventh, without an away win in any competition since March.

Injury-hit United were without midfielder Paul Pogba and forward Anthony Martial and huffed and puffed but failed to break down their dogged opponents.

West Ham are riding high under Manuel Pellegrini, unbeaten since a 5-0 drubbing in the first match of the season and this victory followed a home win last season against United at the London Stadium.

But it was a chastening day for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men, just a day after champions Manchester City came close to matching United's Premier League record for margin of victory -- 9-0 against Ipswich in 1995.

Solskjaer played the same side that triumphed against Leicester last week while Pablo Fornals came in for the injured Manuel Lanzini for the home side.

Both sides were cagey at the start of the match, with neither side able to create clear-cut chances.

West Ham looked the more inventive team when they broke forward while United looked ponderous in attack and lacking in ideas, with Marcus Rashford isolated up front.

The match was drifting towards the interval before Felipe Anderson and Yarmolenko combined to sap United's confidence with a goal in the 44th minute.

United went close to an equaliser early in the second&nbsp;half as the rain came down in London, with Juan Mata missing from close range after an Andreas Pereira cross.

Already short of options up front and missing creators in midfield, they lost Rashford just before the hour mark, replaced by the out-of-form Jesse Lingard.

West Ham went close to doubling their lead shortly afterwards but David de Gea got down low to keep out an Anderson shot from a tight angle.

United upped the pressure and West Ham had goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski to thank for keeping out a Harry Maguire strike from close range.

But West Ham continued to look more dangerous on the break&nbsp;and made United pay when Ashley Young brought down Mark Noble on the edge of the penalty area.

De Gea was a bystander as Cresswell curled a free-kick into the top right-hand corner to add to United's pain.

West Ham extend away-day blues for pitiful Manchester United

A Bernardo Silva hat-trick helped Manchester City to secure the joint second-biggest Premier League victory in history with an 8-0 thrashing of a bewildered Watford on Saturday.

The champions, responding to their first league defeat since January at Norwich City last weekend, blew Watford away by becoming the first side to score five goals in the first 18 minutes of a Premier League game.

David Silva got City up and running after finishing off a delightful pass from Kevin De Bruyne in the first minute, before Sergio Aguero's 100th Premier League goal at the Etihad Stadium doubled the hosts' advantage from the penalty spot.

Riyad Mahrez curled a brilliant free-kick into the net in the 12th minute, with a Bernardo Silva header and a Nicolas Otamendi tap-in completing the 18-minute rout.

Watford brought on an extra defender just after the half-hour mark to try to stem the tide, seeing themselves through to half-time without further damage, before Bernardo Silva added a sixth goal three minutes into the second period.

Bernardo Silva completed his first top-flight hat-trick with a close-range finish to make it seven, before De Bruyne hammered home a superb eighth as City came up one short of Manchester United's record 9-0 victory over Ipswich Town in 1995.

"We can lose the games [Norwich match] but the important thing is the approach and how we react," City manager Pep Guardiola said.

"What I like the most is normally when it's 5-0 at halftime the second half is not serious, it's boring, but we did the opposite and we were more aggressive and made a very good second half."

With Liverpool top of the standings by five points coming into the weekend — the biggest lead after five games at this stage in Premier League history — City were under pressure to close the gap ahead of their title rivals' Sunday trip to Chelsea.

Fifty-two seconds in and De Bruyne had unlocked Watford with a fantastic pass for David Silva to score and six minutes later, after Mahrez had been fouled in the penalty area, Aguero scored and the match was effectively over as a contest.

Watford looked stunned as the goals rained in but it could have been much worse, with City firing a total of 28 shots — 14 in each half — at Watford keeper Ben Foster's goal.

Aguero had six shots alone in the 90 minutes but it was Bernardo Silva who took home the match ball for the first time in his career.

City were five minutes away from matching United's record after De Bruyne's pick of the bunch, but he and Mahrez missed good late chances to complete a perfect day.

"It's probably a bit of shock, embarrassment," Watford's Foster said. "I think we let ourselves down today and the fans a bit.

"We on the pitch didn't give it all we have got."

Bernardo Silva gets hat-trick as Manchester City humiliate Watford 8-0

Tottenham's long wait for an away win in the Premier League continued as Leicester came from behind to beat last season's Champions League finalists 2-1 at the King Power on Saturday.

Harry Kane's great improvisation handed Spurs a first-half lead and Mauricio Pochettino's men thought they had doubled that advantage when Serge Aurier fired home.

However, the goal was ruled out by the finest of margins for offside after a VAR review and Leicester compounded Spurs' pain by equalising two minutes later through Ricardo Pereira.

James Maddison's fine long-range strike five minutes from time then capped Leicester's comeback as they moved above Manchester City into second in the Premier League, for a few hours at least.

By contrast, Spurs have now won just two of their first seven games of the season in all competitions and have still not won away from home in the Premier League since January.

Leicester are aiming to break the glass ceiling of the Premier League top six for the first time since their sensational title triumph in 2016.

And Brendan Rodgers's men claimed their first big-six scalp of the season after drawing away to Chelsea and running Manchester United close at Old Trafford last weekend.

The Foxes started brightly as Maddison curled just wide and then forced Spurs' stand-in goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga into a smart save at his near post.

The hosts were also first to have the ball in the net when Gazzaniga -- deputising for the injured Hugo Lloris -- spilled Youri Tielemans's shot and Wilfred Ndidi bundled home the rebound.

But replays showed Ayoze Perez was offside as he reached the loose ball off Gazzaniga first and the goal was ruled out after a VAR review.

Kane makes most of reprieve

Handed that reprieve, Tottenham went in front in unusual fashion on 29 minutes when Son Heung min's backheel found Kane, who stumbled and hit the floor as he bore down on goal.

However, the England captain still managed to flick the ball high beyond Kasper Schmeichel from the ground for his 14th goal in 13 games against Leicester.

Kane should have done better with a far better chance moments later when he dragged a shot wide.

At the other end, Gazzaniga was being kept busy as he denied Perez and Jamie Vardy either side of half-time, while Harvey Barnes also headed wastefully wide for the hosts.

But the momentum of the match truly turned Leicester's way on another VAR call 23 minutes from time.

Kane teed up Aurier to fire home from the edge of the area, but the goal was ruled out for Son being barely a millimetre offside in the build-up.

Leicester built on that huge lift and went straight down the other end to level when Vardy's low cross was turned home at the far post by Pereira.

Spurs had chances to retake the lead as Aurier fired across goal and wide, while Kane's powerful effort was too close to Schmeichel.

And they were hit with the sucker punch when Maddison pounced on a loose ball and drilled a shot into the bottom corner from 25 yards.

Jurgen Klopp says&nbsp;Liverpool have not changed their defensive approach despite their record of only one clean sheet in their eight games so far this season.

The European champions are five points clear at the top of the Premier League after five straight wins but the backline has been breached in four of those matches.

And two late goals conceded in Naples in midweek meant their Champions League campaign started in disappointing fashion.

Klopp's men started last season's league campaign with three clean sheets and conceded just 22 Premier League goals all season, missing out on their first top-flight title since 1990 by a single point.

But Klopp said at his pre-Chelsea press conference on Friday that the change was down to circumstances rather than system.

"No, there is no difference," he said at Liverpool's training ground. "We didn't focus more on offensive things and forget the defensive things.

"The goals happened completely strangely. There would have been a second clean sheet against Southampton if we don't concede that goal, there could have been different clean sheets in other games.

"Of course it's not exactly what we wanted but we don't collect clean sheets. We want to win football games and we are still early in the season."

Klopp, whose side travel to Frank Lampard's Chelsea on Sunday, was asked about the importance of Virgil van Dijk and whether he had concerns about any potential injuries ruling the Dutchman out for a period of time.

"That's the reason why we have four centre-halves," he said.

"It's not easy for the 'in the moment number four', not playing and sometimes not involved in the squad, but in the moment if something happens, like it was last year, not only one thing happens, a couple of things happen and then you end up with one centre-half and a defensive midfielder, which we did against Bayern."

"We all need luck to be really successful, injury-wise first and foremost," he added.&nbsp;

"I can imagine something like that is not easy but the other guys, I have said it a lot of times, from my point of view we have four world-class centre-halves. They can play together in each partnership and hopefully that will be enough for a season, to be honest."

Jurgen Klopp unfazed by Liverpool's defensive lapses

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is not concerned by Marcus Rashford's recent lack of goals, pointing to the Manchester United forward's hunger and determination to improve.

Teenager Mason Greenwood saved his teammates' blushes on Thursday, scoring in United's unconvincing 1-0 win against Astana in their Europa League opener at home.

United started brightly but Rashford missed a number of opportunities against the champions of Kazakhstan.

Solskjaer has spoken of his desire for the 21-year-old to score more goals but is not worried that the academy graduate has netted just once from open play in eight appearances for club and country this season.

"He's getting the chances," the United boss said of Rashford, who has scored two penalties this campaign. "Of course he could have had three today (Thursday). The keeper made a few fantastic saves.

"I don't worry about that, no. We're working every single day in training with Marcus. He wants to improve, wants to be better."

Asked if United needed more goals from Rashford and fellow forward Anthony Martial, he said, "All the goals we've scored have come from the forwards with Marcus and Anthony, and Dan James. I'm sure they'll chip in with many, many goals.

"He is still young, he'll improve. You won't hit your peak as a striker until you're 26 or 27. He's still learning what finishes to make in different circumstances."

Solskjaer expects to be without Martial for Sunday's match away to West Ham, along with Paul Pogba and Luke Shaw.

United, fourth in the Premier League table, could also be missing Wales winger James, who missed the match against Astana with a knock sustained in last week's victory against Leicester.

Defensive problems have dogged United during their winless away run that stretches back to the shock victory at Paris Saint-Germain in March but Solskjaer said he was relaxed.

"Why should we as coaches be concerned? We're looking forward to things, looking for solutions," the Norwegian said.

"I think we should've won at Southampton," he added. &nbsp;"I think we should've won the Wolverhampton one. Both should be wins.

"It's still the same size pitch, green with white lines, some fans. You've got to block out the mental part and play as you would in the park."

"I don't worry about that, no. We're working every single day in training with Marcus. He wants to improve, wants to be better." Asked if United needed more goals from Rashford and fellow forward Anthony Martial, he said, "All the goals we've scored have come from the forwards with Marcus and Anthony, and Dan James. I'm sure they'll chip in with many, many goals. "He is still young, he'll improve. You won't hit your peak as a striker until you're 26 or 27. He's still learning what finishes to make in different circumstances." Solskjaer expects to be without Martial for Sunday's match away to West Ham, along with Paul Pogba and Luke Shaw. "I think we should've won the Wolverhampton one. Both should be wins. "It's still the same size pitch, green with white lines, some fans. You've got to block out the mental part and play as you would in the park."

Manchester United boss Solskjaer relaxed over Marcus Rashford's lack of goals

Arsenal squandered a two-goal lead as Watford hit back to draw 2-2 in new manager Quique Sanchez Flores's first game of his second stint in charge at Vicarage Road on Sunday.

Flores's return following the dismissal of Javi Gracia after four games of the Premier League season seemed to be going flat as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang struck twice for Arsenal in the first half.

But Tom Cleverley halved the deficit in the 53rd minute after an Arsenal mix-up and Watford were rewarded for a much-improved display when substitute Roberto Pereyra converted an 81st-minute penalty awarded for a foul on him by David Luiz.

Watford came agonisingly close to winning it with Gerard Deulofeu curling just wide and then Abdoulaye Doucoure having a stoppage-time shot saved by Bernd Leno after a counter-attack.

Victory would have put Arsenal into third place but they ended the day seventh in a cluster of clubs on eight points.

Arsenal manager Unai Emery said his side had struggled to cope with Watford's physical style.

"They are more stronger than us so we want to break the lines from the goal kick and connect to Mesut Ozil, like we did with the first goal," he said.

"We have young players, we are working to improve and they will gain experience from matches like today. We can grow up and learn with these mistakes."

Watford are still seeking a first win of the season and remain bottom but they doubled their points tally to two.

Watford started with real purpose but were stunned when Aubameyang punished them twice in the space of 11 minutes.

In the 21st minute he collected Sead Kolasinac's pass before turning sharply and firing beyond Ben Foster.

He struck again after a flowing 20-pass move and the Gunners looked on course for three points.

They gifted Watford a lifeline after the break though when defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos gave away the ball to Gerard Deulofeu in his own area and he fed Cleverly to score.

Arsenal suddenly looked fragile and Luiz rashly brought down Pereyra to concede his second penalty in three games.

"I was really happy with the performance of the players," Sanchez Flores said. "We have one point against a very tough team.

"It's good for our confidence. We are positive."

Watford battle back to salvage draw against Arsenal

Frank Lampard never doubted Tammy Abraham would make an impact in the Premier League but has vowed to come down tough if the Chelsea striker allows his current high standards to drop.

Abraham took his tally to seven goals in the last three games with an outstanding hat-trick in his side’s emphatic 5-2 victory at Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Having struggled to make an impact in the opening two games of the Premier League campaign, the 21-year-old is justifying the faith shown in him by Lampard who has made Abraham his first-choice striker.

The Chelsea manager insists, though, the challenge now confronting the England international is maintain his stunning start to the campaign.&nbsp;

“I have confidence in him, and I am prepared to give him chances, but even more now I will be tougher on him because he has shown what he can do,” said Lampard.&nbsp;

“The moment he wants to come off that and think that goals will drop at his feet will be the moment that he will be rested.

"It is important to make sure that he stays on his game. I have competition up there and I don”t want to down-talk Oli Giroud or Michy Batshuayi.”

Abraham, capped twice by England in international friendlies, was left out of Gareth Southgate’s most recent squad but Lampard believes the forward’s current form means he will be back in contention for a recall.

“With the way he is going it will obviously put him into that bracket without telling Gareth what to do,” added Lampard. “To score seven goals in three games and be top scorer (in the Premier League) and play with the quality of his all-round game.&nbsp;

“He has to keep playing at that level and he will have a great chance I’d suggest.”

Nigeria remain hopeful of persuading Abraham to switch allegiance although Lampard insisted he could offer no insight into the player’s thoughts on his international future.

“I know Tammy’s been in England squads before and I’m not surprised Nigeria would want him, but it’s a question for him,” said the manager.

Abraham struck twice before half-time after Fikayo Tomori had put Chelsea ahead and then again after the break with Mason Mount completing the win after an unfortunate Abraham own-goal and Patrick Cutrone replied for Wolves.

All three of Abraham, Mount and Tomori are graduates of the Chelsea academy and their presence in the starting line-up was further evidence of Lampard’s intention to put his faith in youth, which the manager hopes will generate its own motivation amongst his squad.

"They should aspire and feel the opportunity is there of they deserve it," said Lampard, who claimed the door is open for more academy players to come through.

"They should see their team-mates do really well and want to get in there.&nbsp;

"If we are going to be successful this season then we can’t absolutely rely on the young boys, but at the minute they are doing a good job of taking the reigns.”&nbsp;

Wolves have just three points from their opening five games, but manager Nuno Espirito Santo denied their poor run of form is anything to do with the early start to their Europa League campaign.

"No, it (the Europa League) was a challenge we embraced from the beginning. We knew what we needed to do," said Nuno.

"That was a bad, bad performance. We started the game well but the mistakes we made, we cannot go and repeat them."

Frank Lampard expects Tammy Abraham to maintain scoring streak

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola insisted he still "loves" his players after <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/teemu-pukki-shines-as-injury-hit-norwich-upset-manchester-city-3-2-249763">a shock 3-2 defeat at newly-promoted Norwich</a> saw the Premier League champions fall five points behind Liverpool at the top of the table.

City lost for the first time in the league since January as Kenny McLean, Todd Cantwell and Teemu Pukki struck for an injury-ravaged Norwich at Carrow Road.

However, Guardiola claimed the odd slip-up is the norm rather than the exceptional form City have demonstrated in winning back-to-back Premier League titles.

Guardiola's men posted a record 100 points in 2017/18 and held off Liverpool's club record 97-point haul to retain their title with 98 points last season.

"I know what we are as a team, what we have done, what we are going to do again, and I love my players. It is a pleasure and honour to be with them," said the Catalan coach.

"That is the challenge in a high level. The people cannot expect all the time (to) win or make 100 points, 90 points.

"It shows how difficult everything (we have done) is. Now we need to recover, go to Europe (in the Champions League) and come back."

For all of Norwich's injury woes, it was a City absence that appeared the most significant as Aymeric Laporte was badly missed at the heart of the visitors' defence.

The French centre-back will be sidelined until at least the new year after undergoing knee surgery and John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi did little to settle City nerves that they will be able to hold the fort until the transfer window opens again or Laporte returns in January.

Sergio Aguero had reduced City's arrears to 2-1 just before half-time after McLean and Cantwell put Norwich in front.

But any momentum for Guardiola's men at the start of the second-half was wiped out when Stones played Otamendi into trouble and the Argentine was robbed on the edge of his own box by Emiliano Buendia, who squared for Pukki to make it 3-1.

"Nobody talked (to each other) and they score a goal," said Guardiola. "It happens, it's not good it happens but it happened today."

Laporte's absence could be vital in Liverpool's quest to end a 30-year wait to win the league, but Guardiola warned the European champions that it is still early days in the title race.

"Sometimes (players) make mistakes," added Guardiola of his defence. "We will look to see what I can do to help them.

"We know the quality of our opponents, not just Liverpool, but especially Liverpool and I know five points is five points, but we are in September."

Pep Guardiola still 'in love' with Manchester City players despite shock Norwich defeat

An injury-ravaged Norwich City outclassed champions Manchester City 3-2 in the Premier League on Saturday with striker Teemu Pukki scoring one and setting up another for a famous win at Carrow Road.

Eleven players were sidelined for Norwich, with many suffering injuries during the international break, but that did not stop the promoted side from handing Pep Guardiola's men their first loss of the season.

Norwich took the lead in the 18th minute from a corner floated in by Emiliano Buendia towards the near post which was headed home by Kenny McLean for his first-ever Premier League goal.

"I don't think many people gave us a chance but we came out fighting," McLean said in a post-match interview. "There were plenty of injuries but we couldn't use that as an excuse. We have a good squad, a good bench and the performance was excellent."

Norwich doubled the lead from a counter-attack when Pukki carried the ball forward, drawing City defender Kyle Walker out of position before teeing up an unmarked Todd Cantwell who tapped the ball into an empty net.

"We got off to a flyer and we knew they would have plenty of the ball," McLean added. "We knew the counter-attack and set pieces would be vital for us and it worked out that way."

Sergio Aguero halved the lead at the stroke of halftime when he found space between the two centre backs and nodded home Bernardo Silva's cross to maintain his run of scoring in every league game so far this season.

Man City defender Nicolas Otamendi gifted Norwich a third when he dallied on the ball and allowed Buendia to steal in and take it off him to set up Pukki for his sixth goal of the season as manager Guardiola fumed on the bench.

Rodri, Man City's club-record signing, set up a tense finish to the match when he fired in his first goal for the club. But Norwich held on to take all three points.

"I can't praise enough the spirit and mentality of my players because it was an unbelievably complicated week," Norwich boss Daniel Farke said.

"It is a great day for us, for the whole club and for the supporters. Carrow Road is absolutely buzzing and it's a win for our owners because they are such kind-hearted people and we cannot ask for better owners."

The result leaves Man City five points behind league leaders Liverpool while Norwich, who became the first promoted side to beat Guardiola's team in the Premier League, have moved up to 12th.

Teemu Pukki shines as injury-hit Norwich upset Manchester City 3-2

Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah ensured Liverpool maintained their 100 percent start to the Premier League season by coming from behind to beat Newcastle 3-1 at Anfield on Saturday.

The European champions have a history of starting slowly in early kick-offs under Jurgen Klopp and only arose from their slumber after the Magpies took a shock lead through Jetro Willems on seven minutes.

Mane turned the tide before half-time with a sumptuous finish into the top corner before profiting from an error by Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka for his second.

Dubravka redeemed himself after the break with a string of fine saves to keep the final score down, but was helpless when Salah finished coolly from Roberto Firmino's cute backheel.

Klopp's men open up a five-point lead over Manchester City at the top of the table, but the champions can cut that gap back to two with victory at Norwich later on Saturday.

Newcastle sprung a huge surprise by claiming their only win of the season so far at Tottenham three weeks ago. They followed the same script as they frustrated the hosts in the early stages before stunning Anfield by going in front.

Willems turned inside Trent Alexander-Arnold before drilling a fierce shot past the helpless Adrian.

'Need to start quicker'

"We didn't start the game the way we wanted to and to be fair to Newcastle they started brightly and scored a hell of a goal," said Liverpool defender Andy Robertson. "That gave us the wake-up call we needed and afterwards I think we kicked into gear and were too good for them.

"We need to be quicker getting back into our rhythm (after international breaks) or against teams in the top six we might struggle to get back into the game if we give away a goal."

Liverpool trailed at home for the first time since March, but quickly rallied to record a 14th straight Premier League victory.

Mane was furious with Salah after being substituted in a 3-0 win away to Burnley before the international break, accusing the Egyptian of being too greedy in his eye for goal.

But Salah suggested any feud had been forgotten before kick-off by posting a doctored video with the two players' faces superimposed onto a viral video of two boys hugging.

And Mane was certainly in a happier mood once he equalised by arrowing into the far corner from Robertson's pass to get Liverpool back on level terms.

Firmino had been rested from the start after travelling to the United States with Brazil during the international break, but he was soon called into the action as Divock Origi limped off injured.

And he made an instant impact as his pass forward was spilled by Dubravka for Mane to roll into an empty net.

Liverpool had only one scare once they were in front as Emil Krafth blasted over a great chance to bring Newcastle level again at the back post.

However, it was only a matter of time before the Reds made the game safe as Dubravka saved brilliantly from Robertson and twice denied the excellent Firmino, who was named man-of-the-match despite only coming on eight minutes before half-time.

"We were relieved when he was on the bench but then he came on and made all the difference," said Newcastle manager Steve Bruce.

"Liverpool were just incredible in the second half. It was just attack after attack. Firmino drops into those areas that no one else can."

The Brazilian bagged another assist when his flick freed Salah, who took his time before leaving Dubravka grounded and placing the ball into the far corner.

Mane was denied his hat-trick and Firmino a triple of assists by the offside flag, but Liverpool cruised through the final stages with one eye already on the start of their defence of the Champions League away to Napoli on Tuesday.

Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah combine to maintain Liverpool's perfect start

Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah on Saturday posted a hilarious video to brush off rumours related to a possible rift between him and teammate Sadio Mane.

Recently, a video involving two toddlers hugging it out went viral on social media and Salah posted the same video on Twitter with his and Mane's heads superimposed on the children and the manager Jurgen Klopp was seen walking down the street having a smirk on his face.

Mane had previously reacted angrily after being substituted in the match between Liverpool and Burnley FC in the ongoing Premier League.

The Reds won the match 3-0 and in the game, Salah also failed to pass the ball to him for a scoring opportunity.

In the ongoing tournament, Salah has registered three goals for the team whereas Mane has managed to score two times.

Mohamed Salah brushes off rumours related to rift with Sadio Mane

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker will be out until after the next international break in mid-October but midfielder Naby Keita should return to training with the first team next week, manager Jurgen Klopp said on Friday.

Brazilian Alisson injured his calf in Liverpool's Premier League opener against Norwich City last month and the European champions have kept only one clean sheet in all competitions in his absence so far.

Keita, who suffered a groin injury last month, has missed Liverpool's last three matches.

"Alisson looks good and he is improving, but we cannot put any pressure on it," Klopp told reporters ahead of Saturday's home game against Newcastle United. "It was a really serious injury in the calf.

"It is now much better and that's good for us and good for him, but we don't know exactly (how long it will take). The target was always after the next international break.

"Naby is close. He could be in training when we come back from (Liverpool's Champions League group stage match against) Napoli next week."

Newcastle are 14th in the table under new manager Steve Bruce but Klopp is not taking them lightly after they beat Tottenham Hotspur away last month.

"They are very difficult to play against," the German said. "The style is similar to last season. They defend with a big heart. It won't be easy.

"I'm really impressed by the things they have done so far. Newcastle had something like 20% possession against Tottenham but they deserved the three points. They will fight like crazy."

Liverpool are seeking their fifth victory of the season and a club record-extending 14th straight top flight win. Klopp's side are also unbeaten at Anfield in their last 40 league matches.

"It was clear we had to change things," he said. "We had to make Anfield a fortress again. We created a proper basis together, it became more difficult for teams to get something."

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker will be out until after the next international break in mid-October but midfielder Naby Keita should return to training with the first team next week, manager Jurgen Klopp said on Friday.

Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte will be out for up to six months after undergoing surgery on his right knee, manager Pep Guardiola said on Friday.

French centre back Laporte damaged his cartilage and lateral meniscus in a challenge with Brighton and Hove Albion defender Adam Webster and was carried off in City's 4-0 league victory last month.

When asked how long Laporte will be out, Guardiola said, "Five months, six months. Next year sure, January or February."

Laporte made 35 league appearances during their title-winning campaign last term, with midfielder Bernardo Silva the only City outfield player to play more matches.

His injury leaves City with Nicolas Otamendi and John Stones as central defenders, following Vincent Kompany's departure to become the player-manager at Anderlecht at the end of last season.

Guardiola confirmed Stones could feature at Norwich City on Saturday after recovering from a niggling thigh issue.
