Australia’s ODI and Test captain Pat Cummins won the internet with his savage reply on the possible four semi-finalists at the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup.
Cummins also expressed a bit of surprise at SRH bettering their record of highest IPL total by a team within days and said: "Against Mumbai a few weeks ago I thought it won't happen again, but it has happened again."

SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) skipper Pat Cummins took a dig at his Australian teammate Marnus Labuschagne after SRH posted the highest team total of 287/3 in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. SRH, who had battered Mumbai Indians (MI) for 277/3 a few days ago, improved their own record by 10 runs on April 15 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. After the match, Cummins posted a photo of himself along with Travis Head, who scored a belligerent 102 off 41 balls, on the social media platform Instagram. Cummins wrote in the caption: 'This guy (in reference to Head)' and mentioned the runs scored by SRH to which Labuschagne responded with 'wow.'
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 on Tuesday (April 9) witnessed yet another close encounter as Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) beat Punjab Kings (PBKS) to register their first away win of the season. The narrow two-run win was engineered by an unfamiliar name, Nitish Reddy as he played a match-winning knock at Chandigarh’s Mullanpur.
Cummins in awe of Nitish

"He was awesome," Cummins said. "Straight to the top of the order [in this game], was fantastic in the field, bowled three overs too. To get us to 180 off his bat, it was amazing."

It was not an easy task for Nitish as he had to fight for his place before playing the match-winning 64-run knock off just 37 deliveries. With Mayank Agarwal fit and Abhishek Sharma getting enough credit to open after his blistering 37 off 12 against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Nitish had to earn the trust of the management. The management took a gamble and decided to bench Mayank against his former side Punjab and instead used Nitish at No.4.

A just 20, the local lad has already earned huge praise from the skipper and team management. He also ended with figures of 33/1 in his three overs, showcasing his all-rounder skill. He will try to now become an important part of the team roster as SRH aim to end their eight-year drought for the IPL title. The South Indian side last won the IPL title under David Warner in 2016 and have since gone silent.

IPL 2024: SRH captain Pat Cummins in awe of Nitish Reddy after match-winning performance against PBKS

Match 18 of the IPL 2024 edition saw the Pat Cummins-led Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) thrash Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by six wickets in pursuit of 166 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad on Friday (April 5). During the game, captain Cummins made heads turn when he withdrew an appeal, i.e. of obstructing the field, against CSK all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja during the first half.

In the penultimate over of CSK's innings, bowled by Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jadeja was struggling to get the big hits. On the fourth ball, Bhuvi bowled a yorker and Jadeja somewhat dug it out. As he came out of the crease, Bhuvi sensed it as an opportunity to dismiss him. Jadeja, however, came in the line of the throw.

This raised eyebrows as SRH wicketkeeper Heinrich Klaasen realised it was a chance to dismiss Jadeja. The umpires even referred it upstairs to check if it was deliberate from Jaddu, however, skipper Cummins withdrew the appeal.

Soon after the incident, former Indian cricketer Mohammed Kaif questioned Cummins. He asked if it was a tactical move to withdraw the appeal with Jadeja not timing it well, and also delay MS Dhoni's arrival at the crease. He even enquired if the Australian would have done the same if it was against Virat Kohli at the T20 World Cup?

“Two questions to Pat Cummins on withdrawing the obstructing the field appeal against Jadeja. Was it a tactical call to let a struggling Jadeja be the crease and keep Dhoni indoors? Would he have done the same if it was Virat Kohli at World T20?” Kaif wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

Talking about the incident involving Jadeja, it didn't seem that he was trying to get in the line of the throw, rather just looking to get out of the way. Hence, this may have prompted Cummins to withdraw the appeal. If it was also tactical, it kept Jadeja in the middle till the end of the CSK innings where he managed a 23-ball 31* but didn't hit any six in the last five overs. He faced 17 of the final 30 balls and managed just three fours.

Speaking of the match, SRH opted to bowl first and CSK struggled for most parts on a sluggish surface despite Ajinkya Rahane's 35, which came in 30 balls, and Shivam Dube's 45 (24). Jadeja and Daryl Mitchell couldn't give them the late impetus as Chennai managed 165 for 5. In reply, Abhishek Sharma's 12-ball 37 propelled SRH to 78 for 1 in six overs. Travis Head's 24-ball 31 and Aiden Markram's 50 helped SRH close the chase in 18.1 overs, with Klaasen and Nitish Reddy remaining unbeaten.

SRH, thus, came back to winning ways whereas CSK have now lost two games on the trot after twin victories.

SRH vs CSK: Would you have done it to Kohli? Kaif questions Cummins for withdrawing appeal vs Jadeja

Former Australia cricketer Tom Moody has lavished huge praise on Pat Cummins after the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) beat Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by six wickets in match 18 of IPL 2024 on Friday (April 5) in Hyderabad. Cummins-led SRH opted to bowl first and restricted Ruturaj Gaikwad & Co. for 165 for 5 before chasing down a moderate 166 in 18.1 overs, courtesy of Abhishek Sharma's 12-ball 37 and Aiden Markram's 50.

Moody lauded Cummins who doesn't shy away from resorting to unorthodox tactics, which one may not think at first. Prior to IPL 2024, Cummins had no experience of captaining a T20 team across any level, however, Moody believes the Australian Test and ODI skipper has cracked the code to lead well in the shortest format as well. The former cricketer compared him with legendary captain MS Dhoni.

'He is a bit like MS Dhoni'

After SRH's win over CSK, Moody told ESPNCricinfo, "The one thing I like about Cummins is he is a bit like MS Dhoni. He is prepared to make a decision that most people don’t think about, but makes you feel like ‘Why didn’t I think about that?’ Like the Abhishek Sharma over. It was quite an odd decision when you look at the other options they could have gone with."

IPL 2024: Pat Cummins ready for MS Dhoni challenge in SRH vs CSK contest in Hyderabad

The IPL 2024 edition started on March 22 and has already become a huge talking point in the cricketing fraternity. Till now, only eight games have been held but the excitement level and hype is unreal. Formula One driver Oscar Piastri, on Wednesday (March 27), also joined the craze for the ongoing season and asked, on X, the IPL loyalists to recommond him a team to support. Notably, Australia's Piastri is the first driver to win Formula Renault Eurocup, FIA Formula 3 Championship, and FIA Formula 2 Championship in consecutive rookie years. SRH captain Pat Cummins reacts after F1 driver Oscar Piastri asks which team to support in IPL 2024

Under newly-appointed captain Pat Cummins, the SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) franchise will hope for a turnaround following the previous season, where they finished last on the points table. Playing their season-opener against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in an away clash on Saturday (March 23), SRH will walk out an experienced overseas contingent, including Travis Head, Aiden Markram, Heinrich Klaasen and Glenn Phillips. The 2016 IPL winner has nothing to lose but only to gain in the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League.

SRH's balance is what will keep them ahead of their contemporaries, having better Indian top-order players in their lineup in comparison to most teams. In their bowling department, SRH has enough firepower to keep every opponent silent on their day.

SRH Updated Squad: IPL 2024, SunRisers Hyderabad Probable Playing XI, replacement, captain, schedule

Mumbai Indians (MI) and SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) will face off in match 8 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season on Wednesday (Mar 27). Both teams are winless after facing narrow defeats in their first matches and will be looking to get some points on the table. SRH lost to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in their first match by just four runs in a high-scoring thriller, while MI lost to Gujarat Titans by six runs.

Playing under new captains, both SRH and MI would be itching to leave the loss behind and get their campaigns on track. The hot contests to watch out for in the match are SRH skipper and bowler Pat Cummins going up against MI's Rohit Sharma, as well as MI bowler Jasprit Bumrah pitching to SRH hitter Heinrich Klassen.

While Bumrah produced a magical spell of 3/14 in four overs in MI's first match, Klassen almost took his team home in the chase of 209 by scoring 29-ball 63. As for Cummins, who ended with the figures of 1/32 in the first match, stopping Rohit is going to be the key at the top. Notably, Rohit had provided a good start to MI in their first match, scoring 29-ball 43 in a chase of 169.

Other key players likely to grab the limelight are SRH's Aiden Markram, who scored a poor 13-ball 18 in the opening match against KKR but boasts a good record in the T20 format. Markram most recently led his side to consecutive titles in SA 20 but hasn't been able to perform well for SRH so far.

As for MI, skipper Hardik Pandya will again be in focus for his captaincy and performance. Notably, Pandya faced a bit of criticism for tactical errors in the first match against Gujarat. Another challenge for MI is the availability of star batter Suryakumar Yadav who is still recovering from surgery.

The hot contests to watch out for in the match are SRH skipper and bowler Pat Cummins going up against MI's Rohit Sharma, as well as MI bowler Jasprit Bumrah pitching to SRH hitter Heinrich Klassen. Also Read: WATCH | CSK's Samir Rizvi hits GT spinner Rashid Khan for first-ball six While Bumrah produced a magical spell of 3/14 in four overs in MI's first match, Klassen almost took his team home in the chase of 209 by scoring 29-ball 63.

IPL 2024: Pat Cummins all ready for SRH debut against compatriot Mitchell Starc, says 'it's going to be weird'

Former Australia pacer Glenn McGrath heaped praise on Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins ahead of the upcoming IPL 2024 edition, starting on March 22. Starc will be back in the IPL, after 2015, and will be representing the Shreyas Iyer-led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) whereas Cummins will lead Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the upcoming season. Both the Aussies were in high demand during the IPL 2024 mini-auction in December 2023 and went for huge price tags. While Cummins was sold for INR 20.5 crore (205 million), Starc was the costliest; earning INR 24.75 crore (247.5 million).

McGrath opined on the Aussie duo and feels that both bowlers have enough experience under their belt and won't be bogged down by the price tag pressure. Speaking at the MRF pace foundation, the veteran said, "The money that they have received is incredible. But they are both very experienced players and know the game well. They are going to go out and play well as they have done in the past. I don't think it (price tag) will impact them even one per cent."

On Starc's much-awaited IPL return, after a long hiatus, the legendary pacer opined, "For Starc, he chose not to come to the IPL due to personal reasons. But he comes back and gets a record price. He will be looking forward to it. On his day, if he is moving the ball around, he will be as good as any other fast bowler."

IPL 2024: Price tag won’t affect Starc, Cummins even 1 per cent, opines Australia legend Glenn McGrath

IPL 2024: Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan has questioned the credentials of Australia skipper Pat Cummins as a bowler and his appointment as the skipper of Indian Premier League (IPL) side SunRisers Hyderabad. Cummins has been named the SRH skipper ahead of the upcoming 2024 season. Pathan said that the franchise is taking a shot at Cummins given his form and performance in the recent months. Notably, Cummins led Australia to World Test Championship title as well as the ODI World Cup in 2023.

“My doubt is only there as his IPL numbers are not that great eight and half economy in the IPL which is quite high for a premier quality fast bowler, hopefully that can change in one season, so Sunrisers Hyderabad will be hoping he will able to come and lead the side to the victory which they haven’t got it from some time now but I certainly think that T20 cricket is a different form of game compare to 50 overs and test cricket,” Pathan said on Star Sports.

Overall, Cummins has played 42 matches in the IPL and has 45 wickets to his name to go with 379 runs. He last played for Kolkata Knight Riders in the league.

IPL 2024: 'His numbers not great,' says Irfan Pathan about SRH skipper Pat Cummins ahead of upcoming season

Australia captain Pat Cummins hailed several match winners in the Test squad who helped the touring side win the second Test against New Zealand in Christchurch by three wickets. Reeling at 34 for four late on day three and 80 for five at one stage early on day four, Australia clawed their way back into the game, taking the series 2-0.

After losing Travis Head early on day four, the under-fire pair of Mitchell Marsh and Alex Carey, whose position in the Test team was under severe scrutiny for his series of low scores, stitched a brilliant 140-run stand in 29 overs to put Australia in the winning position.

While Ben Sears took two wickets in two balls to dent Australia’s run, including removing Marsh (on 80) and Starc on the first ball, Carey and Cummins stood tall to see their team home. Cummins remained on 32, and Carey registered his best Test score in the fourth inning.

"We've been on the other side of it plenty of times, and if the scoreboard's not moving, you feel in the game, but if they are chipping away, it seems like it's all happening pretty quickly," he said. "That was the goal today, be busy, keep the run rate ticking over, and bit by bit getting closer."

'We keep finding ways to win, it's an awesome squad' - Cummins hails Australian team after Christchurch win

Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra has slammed the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) team management for appointing Pat Cummins as the new captain for IPL 2024. On Monday (March 4), the SRH camp announced Cummins taking over as the new skipper, replacing Aiden Markram. Cummins, who was bought by the franchise in IPL 2024 mini-auction for INR 20.50 crores, doesn't have great numbers in the IPL and isn't even Australia's captain in T20Is. Hence, his appointment hasn't been well received by Chopra.

'That is why Pat Cummins is not the captain of the team where 11 Australians play'

Talking on his YouTube channel, Chopra pointed out, "You have made Pat Cummins the captain but have you seen his recent IPL numbers? Check attentively, he concedes a lot of runs and doesn't score that many runs with the bat. Only four overseas players play. He neither bowls in the powerplay nor at the death."

"If he is not going to do all those jobs, you are spending 25 per cent of your overseas resources on a player whose place in the XI was not 100 per cent guaranteed in the IPL. That is why Pat Cummins is not the captain of the team where 11 Australians play, although he has won the World Cup, but not T20," Chopra opined.

Chopra's claims are not incorrect, Cummins has an ordinary record in the IPL. The Aussie has only 45 wickets in 42 games, at an economy of 8.54, along with 379 runs. He withdrew from the IPL 2023 season and featured in only 12 matches in 2021 and 2022 editions; managing 16 wickets and 122 runs overall. For Australia, he has played only two T20Is since the 2022 T20 World Cup. Hence, Australia have Mitchell Marsh as their T20I captain despite Cummins winning the WTC and ODI World Cup titles as captain last year.

The South African batter, however, has led the Sunrisers Eastern Cape -- Hyderabad's sister franchise in SA20 -- to two successive titles (in 2023 and 2024). Chopra further stated that Markram could have retained his position as he had led the franchise amid a lot of confusion in the last IPL season.

Chopra added, "There is a player named Aiden Markram who benefited the SunRisers franchise a lot. He made the SunRisers Eastern Cape the champions for two successive years in the SA20 league. However, he has been removed from the captaincy here. He captained one year in total where I felt there was a lot of confusion."

He captained one year in total where I felt there was a lot of confusion." ‘You have made Pat Cummins...’: Aakash Chopra slams SRH over captaincy change before IPL 2024

On Monday (Mar 4), the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) franchise named Pat Cummins as their new captain ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 edition. Cummins replaces South Africa's Aiden Markram from the top post. Under Markram, the Orange Army ended at the bottom in the IPL 2023 edition and were a pale shadow of themselves throughout the campaign. With Cummins raising his stocks as a leader in recent times, leading Australia to the WTC 2023 and ODI World Cup titles in the last few months, the team management would be confident to see the side's revival in the upcoming edition.

IPL 2024: ODI World Cup-winning captain Pat Cummins named Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper

Australia skipper Pat Cummins says that he'll quit the captaincy the day ace spinner Nathan Lyon retires. Cummins, however, backs Lyon to continue for four more years, given the spinner takes care of his body. The Aussie skipper made the remarks following Australia's 172-run win over New Zealand in the first Test on Sunday, March 3. Notably, Lyon took a six-fer in second innings to help Australia win - his 24th in the Tests.

"I've already told him (Lyon) the day he retires I'm definitely giving up the captaincy because it makes my life a helluva lot easier," said Cummins after the win in first Test.

"The only barrier really is his body, so if he looks after his body and makes sure he's right for 10 Test matches a year, or whatever it is, I'd absolutely love him to play until 2027. And I don't think there's much that's going to get in his way," he added.

After the second and the last Test of the ongoing series against New Zealand, Australia's next Test assignment will be against India at home in December later this year. He has played 128 Tests so far, taking 527 wickets.

As for the match, New Zealand had Australia pinned down at 267/9 in the first innings before Cameron Green scored 174 not out to take his team to 383. In reply, New Zealand were bowled out for 179 in the first innings.

Come second innings, New Zealand did well by bowling Australia out for 164 with part-timer Glenn Phillips taking a five-for. With a target of 369, the Kiwis did well to end day 3 at 111/3, needing 256 more to win.

On day 4 (March 3), Aussie spinner Nathan Lyon, was in prime form, taking six wickets in total to bowl New Zealand out for 196 to win the match for his team.

'I'm definitely giving up...,' Pat Cummins shares potential timeline of quitting Australia captaincy

Australia captain Pat Cummins is the frontrunner to replace Aiden Markram as SunRisers Hyderabad’s new captain, as per the latest reports. The Orange Army bought the Aussie speedster for a record fee of INR 20.75 crore at last year’s IPL auction, making him the second-most expensive player in the tournament history.

Cummins led Australia to their sixth world title in November last year, beating home team India in the World Cup final at Ahmedabad. Cummins also helped Australia win their maiden World Test Championship (WTC) title, against India.

Considering SRH’s head coach, Daniel Vettori, has worked closely with Cummins on the national team, it could influence SRH’s decision to name Pat the new skipper.

Although Markram has led the team in the past two seasons, he couldn’t help SRH taste success. On the other hand, Markram is a proven leader in South Africa’s SA20 League, having led SunRisers Eastern Cape to back-to-back titles.

Steyn to take a break from coaching duties

IPL 2024: Cummins to captain SunRisers Hyderabad as Steyn parts ways as bowling coach this season - Reports

Cameron Green's unbeaten 103 (laced with 16 fours) took Australia to 279 for 9 on a pulsating Day 1 of the first Test versus New Zealand in Wellington on Thursday (Feb 29). Australia were reeling at 156 for 5 and could have been dismissed for anything under 200-215, however, Green's resistance ensured they got near the 300-run mark.

The day started with Tim Southee-led New Zealand opting to bowl first under overcast conditions. Steve Smith and Usman Khawaja were watchful and gave Australia a good platform, at 61 for no loss. Before the lunch break, Smith departed for 31. Soon, the visitors were reduced to 89 for 4 and lost half their side for 156 before Green batted superbly with the tailenders and showed enough grit and determination to take Australia beyond the 250-run mark at the end of play.

NZ vs Aus, 1st Test: Cameron Green's 103* takes Australia to 279 for 9 at stumps on Day 1

Pat Cummins’ Australia have announced their Playing XI for the Wellington Test starting on Thursday (Feb 29) as the visitors look to gain vital ground in the World Test Championship (WTC) standings. As announced, former skipper Steve Smith will continue to play in the opener’s role while Cameron Green will be slotted in the number four spot. The Aussies have gone with an unchanged bowling unit for the sixth consecutive game in the summer as they look to win the opening contest.

Smith continues as opener

Having taken David Warner’s position as an opener, Smith will have a point to prove as he succeeds the Aussie great. Warner’s retirement after the Sydney Test against Pakistan meant that Smith was preferred as the opener despite the availability of specialist batters in that position. Smith beat off competition from Chris Harris and Matthew Renshaw to take the opener’s position. It will also be the first time away from Australia that he takes the opener’s role having previously only opened against the West Indies in the home series.

In the bowling unit, captain Cummins, Mitch Starc, Nathan Lyon and Josh Hazlewood will continue to represent an unchanged pack. The four bowlers have been in great form this summer and have helped Australia win four Test matches in five encounters. The Aussies only lost to the West Indies in Brisbane in January where Shamar Joseph was in the form of his life.

An unchanged bowling unit also means that the last time one of the four frontline bowlers missed a match was in the Ashes. The level of consistency has helped the defending WTC winners stamp their authority on the opposition batting.

For hosts New Zealand, Devon Conway will miss the Wellington contest due to a thumb injury with Will Young likely to partner Tom Latham at the top. The New Zealand management has also roped in Henry Nicholas in the squad but Young will likely make the Playing XI. Conway’s injury occurred in the second T20I against Australia last Friday and he was forced to miss the third T20I as a result.

The countdown for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 has officially begun with less than 40 days to go before the start of cricket’s biggest carnival. With eyes on big boys like Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc, franchises will be poised to add the silverware of IPL glory to their ranks. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), having last tasted glory in 2016 under David Warner’s captaincy, are set for a new reign with Cummins being the high-profile acquisition for a record price of $2.5 million.

According to former India player and World Cup winner Sunil Gavaskar, the Australian will lead the Orange Army from Hyderabad as they look to end their eight-year drought.

Cummins to lead SRH?

"I think Pat Cummins was a smart buy, maybe a little over-expensive. Smart buy because he will bring the leadership aspect to their team, which was lacking the last time around. Last time around, some of the bowling changes that we saw in crucial games were just head-scratching, and that cost them matches. So now with Pat Cummins coming in, I am pretty certain that he will be the captain of the team and that will make a huge difference," Gavaskar said while speaking to Star Sports.

Sunrisers Hyderabad have endured a tough last few seasons and have not made it to the playoffs since 2020. They finished rock bottom in the IPL 2023 which has seen them make a string of signings and changes ahead of the new season.

In a big tug-of-war during the IPL 2024 auctions in December, SRH secured the signing of Cummins who has proven his worth as a skipper. Since taking over the captaincy reign of the Australian cricket team in December 2021, the Aussie has flourished in his role, helping his side win the World Test Championship (WTC), the T20 World Cup and the ODI World Cup. Interestingly, he was the captain of the Australian side during the WTC and ODI World Cup campaigns and could become the first and only captain to win the former two accolades and the T20 World Cup later in the year.

However, before heading to the World Cup, he will be charged to play and lead (not official yet) SRH as they try to mount a title challenge. The Hyderabad-based franchise has finished in the bottom three in each of the last three seasons adding insult to injury.

IPL 2024: Former India captain banks on Pat Cummins to lead SRH in forthcoming season

Australia skipper Pat Cummins acknowledged that the loss against West Indies in the Gabba Test on Sunday (Jan 28) made him happy as a 'cricket fan.' The visitors also drew the series 1-1 after losing the first Test in Adelaide.

"They've been fantastic, they created a couple of new superstars that we didn't know about before the series and as a cricket fan, as a Test-match cricket fan, there's a part of me that was happy to watch," said Cummins at the post-match presentation.

Australia captain Pat Cummins reacted to all-rounder Glenn Maxwell's hospitalisation after a late-night party at an Adelaide pub. The all-rounder got involved in an incident which involved alcohol when he attended a performance by former Aussie cricketer Brett Lee's band 'Six and Out' at the Governer Hindmarsh Hotel. Reportedly, Maxwell lost consciousness backstage after the concert and required medical attention. Thus, he was taken to the hospital but discharged soon.

Now, Cummins has reacted to the entire incident ahead of the second Test between Australia and West Indies at The Gabba. Speaking to the reporters, he said, "We're all adults, been part of night outings, you have got to make your own decisions. I suppose in this actual incident, he was obviously not on tour with the Australians, he was over there for a private event, he was not with the cricket team. So, it is a little bit different. Absolutely, any decision that you make, you have got to own it and be comfortable with it."

Maxwell's manager Ben Tippett clarified that the all-rounder is not under investigation by Cricket Australia (CA) for the late-night party incident.

He told The Age, "Glenn is a little embarrassed by the whole thing. He was a bit sore and sorry on Saturday, but he's back in Melbourne and resumed training yesterday. He's not under investigation by Cricket Australia."

CA also released a statement saying that Maxwell's exclusion from Australia's ODI squad for the WI series has no relation to the late-party incident. The statement confirmed that the 35-year-old will return for the T20I series.

"Cricket Australia is aware of an incident involving Glenn Maxwell in Adelaide at the weekend and is seeking further information," a statement said. "It is not related to him being replaced in the ODI squad, a decision that was made following the BBL and based on his individual management plan. Maxwell is expected to return for the T20 series. Absolutely, any decision that you make, you have got to own it and be comfortable with it." Also read: Cricket Australia investigating hospitalization incident involving Glenn Maxwell × Maxwell's manager Ben Tippett clarified that the all-rounder is not under investigation by Cricket Australia (CA) for the late-night party incident. He told The Age, "Glenn is a little embarrassed by the whole thing. He was a bit sore and sorry on Saturday, but he's back in Melbourne and resumed training yesterday. He's not under investigation by Cricket Australia." CA also released a statement saying that Maxwell's exclusion from Australia's ODI squad for the WI series has no relation to the late-party incident. No further comment will be made at this time," it added. In 2022, Maxwell fractured his leg in multiple places while attending a private party following Australia's T20 World Cup debacle at home. Australia skipper Pat Cummins hopeful of Test bowlers achieving THIS rare feat in second WI Test

Australia captain Pat Cummins has opined on Steve Smith’s new role in the side as they get ready for the two-match series starting on Wednesday (Jan 17) in Adelaide. Smith, 34, will be seen opening the Australian innings for the first time in his Test career after David Warner’s retirement. While there were speculations of drafting experienced and specialist openers, the Australian team management instead went for Smith ahead of Marcus Harris and Cameron Bancroft.

Pat Cummins has his say on Smith

"I've never seen him as happy and as energetic as I've seen him around the nets the last couple of days. He can't wait to get out there. Also think the new ball, maybe [there will be] a few more scoring options. It's something that excites him. So that makes sense and getting Greeny a spot where we think he is set up to succeed,” Cummins said ahead of the first Test match.

Smith has been part of the Australian side for over a decade and has three years of good cricket left in him. Only Ricky Ponting (41) has more Test hundreds than Smith (32) for Australia while he is also the fourth-highest run scorer for the Baggy Greens with 9514 runs in 105 Tests.
