OMG 2 leaked online! Akshay Kumar, Pankaj Tripathi & Yami Gautam's film hit by piracy bug

<p>A revision committee of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has granted a U/A certificate to Akshay Kumar, Pankaj Tripathi's new film <em>OMG: Oh My God 2</em>. The committee has also ordered 27 cuts in the film which is slated to release in theatres on 11 August. The film also features Yami Gautam.&nbsp;<br />

The producers have now changed the beginning to comply with CBFC guidelines, and it will now be played with a voiceover. Akshay Kumar, who was originally cast as Lord Shiva in the film, will now play the Messenger of God.<br />

The makers unveiled the trailer of the film on Thursday- just a week ahead of its official release. The film's trailer was not released prior as the Censor Board was going through the film. The move was taken as a precaution after Prabhas, Saif Ali Khan, and Kriti Sanon starrer <em>Adipurush</em> received severe backlash from the audience in June this year.&nbsp;<br />

According to reports, all frontal nudity visuals have been removed and replaced with appropriate Naga Sadhus visuals in OMG 2. The scene in which Akshay Kumar's character meditates and bathes, which was presumably also shown in teaser, was also replaced. There are also scenes of his character getting drunk, which have now been altered.<br />
<br />
Several dialogues have been altered and all references to alcohol were removed. A dialogue about the High Court was also removed because it was deemed vulgar and defamatory.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
The word "rat" was removed from the label of the rat poison bottle. Furthermore, references to Shivling, Shri Bhagavad Gita, Upanishad, Atharvaved, Draupadi, Pandav, Krishna, Gopiyan, and Raasleela were removed from an important dialogue.<br />

The film, which was originally set in Ujjain, is now set in a different location. The board also requested that all visuals, verbal references, and other references to people in positions of authority, such as Mahant, be removed.&nbsp;<br />

The makers were asked to provide documentary evidence for the facts and statistics mentioned in the film regarding sexual acts. The film has been altered by 13 minutes by the CBFC. The film is now 2 hours and 36 minutes long.<br />

<p>Bollywood actor Pankaj Tripathi has wrapped up the shoot of his upcoming film, <em>Main Atal Hoon</em>. The film is centered on the life and political career of former Prime Minister of India, late Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Tripathi took to Instagram to share a small video from the sets of <em>Main Atal Hoon</em>. “This Atal journey will be remembered forever! I consider myself fortunate to have played a great personality like Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji on the big screen,” read the caption. For the unversed, the late Indian politician served as the Prime Minister of India thrice. The Bharat Ratna and Padma Vibhushan recipient was also one of the key senior leaders and co-founders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).</p>

<p>To mark former prime minister of India&nbsp;Atal Bihari Vajpayee's 98th birth anniversary, the makers of 'Main Atal Hoon' dropped the first look of versatile Bollywood actor Pankaj Tripathi as the celebrated politician. On Sunday,&nbsp;the actor also took to social media to unveil his look and pen a short yet powerful note.</p>

<p>"To realise the personality of 'Atal' ji on screen, I need to work on my personality, I know this. I have the firm belief that I will be able to do justice to the new role based on motivation and morale," Tripathi wrote in the caption.</p>

<p>The Twitter post also featured a set of photos from the film, noting the various aspects of his illustrious personality as the "prime minister, poet, statesman and gentleman".</p>

'Main Atal Hoon': First look of Pankaj Tripathi as Atal Bihari Vajpayee unveiled on his birth anniversary

<p>If I did not know beforehand that 'Sherdil: The Pilibhit Saga' is indeed based on a true story, or rather stories, I probably would have scoffed at what transpires throughout the movie. Written and directed by National Award winner Srijit Mukherji, the plot of 'Sherdil' is often too ridiculous to follow.&nbsp;</p>

<p>But then, truth is often stranger than fiction. A few things that happen in our daily, quotidian lives would confound even the most prolific of human imaginations.</p>

<p>Starring Pankaj Tripathi as sarpanch Gangaram, the film is set in an unnamed village located at the edge of a tiger reserve. Beset by wild animals like boars and nilgai, who stampede through crops and destroy the only source of livelihood for the villagers, the place is unable to sustain itself and there are frequent deaths from starvation. Things are grim.</p>

<p>As they say, nothing unites India as much as cricket and Bollywood and when you get the two most popular things together - you know you have a winner in hand. Filmmaker Kabir Khan has always been known for his&nbsp;deft handling of important subjects like cross-border terrorism and turning it into entertaining, wholesome blockbusters. His latest '83' documents India's historic win at the Cricket World Cup in 1983. A team that was considered to go back home after the prelim matches, stunned the world as it lifted the first world cup for the country.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The plot is known to all cricket buffs all too well. India played reigning champions West Indies team at World Cup 1983 in the UK. No one, including members of the cricket board in India and some of the players, believed that the team had a chance to win the coveted cup. But as the team went on to win the initial matches, hopes of not just the team but of Indians across the world rose.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The beauty of '83 lies in the little anecdotes on the players that it beautifully highlighted. How the 'mad' captain Kapil Dev(Ranveer Singh) struggled with his English, tense moments with some of his team members, Gavaskar's(Tahir Raj Bhasin) little tips on the field, Srikanth and other player's funny banter in the locker room, Balvinder Sandhu's(Ammy Virk)&nbsp;insecurity about not being an engineer or doctor but a bowler- all these and more give an insight into the legendary team whose members are considered living legends now. The film highlights why winning the trophy was important- to create an identity in a game that was never ours, to bring glory to the nation in a country that had for years ruled over India. Spruced with actual footage and images of the championship, the film is able to connect the actors to the parts they play on screen.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Written by Khan, Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan and Vasan Bala, '83' has a detailed screenplay and tries to incorporate not just how the cricketers played on the field but also throws light on the political atmosphere of the time where the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi sought to use India's entry to semi-finals to defuse a possible communal riot in a town in northern India.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Khan's film could have gone either way. Making a film on a subject that is still well-etched on everyone's memory and a championship on which a lot of material is already available is slightly tricky. The actors could have easily hammed and the film could have easily made a caricature on the match. But fortunately, despite working on a topic that is known by many in the country, '83' makes for a thrilling watch.&nbsp;</p>

<p>It helps that it is headlined by the versatile Ranveer Singh who picks up Kapil Dev's mannerisms, his broken English and even his Natraj shot accurately. Sing always manages to slip well into the characters he plays onscreen. '83' is no exception. Singh executes the role of Kapil Dev, the slightly shy but determined captain of the Indian Cricket team, well.&nbsp;</p>

<p>While the film concentrates most on Singh's character, there are other actors too who stood out for their performance. Tamil actor Jiva plays Kris Srikanth with absolute ease. It is so much fun to watch the actor play the maverick Srikanth so accurately on screen. The other actor who stands out for his performance is actor Amy Wark who plays cricketer Balvinder Sandhu.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Pankaj Tripathi as team manager PR Man Singh and Deepika Padukone as Romi Dev too are well cast and leave a lasting impression. It's great to see Deepika and Ranveer playing a regular married couple, sans royalty, wars and period drama (if you know what I mean).</p>

<p>Certain scenes are meta. Neena Gupta, who plays Kapil Dev's mother cheers watching her on-screen son take Sir Viv Richard's wicket. Gupta and Rcihcards were a couple in the 1980s and share daughter, Masaba Gupta. Then Mohinder Amarnath plays his father Lala Amarnath on-screen with Saqib Saleem taking on his role. A portion as the older Amarnath looks at a TV screen cheering his younger self.&nbsp;</p>

<p>At 2hr 45 minutes, the film can be a bit of a stretch. It also tends to focus mostly on Kapil Dev (the cricketer is reportedly one of the co-producers of the film) and perhaps it would have been great to know more about the other cricketers in greater detail.&nbsp;</p>

<p>These flaws can easily be overlooked as '83' taps on the emotions of a country that is always hungry for such thrilling wins. It also gives a slice of history to a generation that has grown up on Sachin Tendulkar, Saurav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid and the recent Dhoni and Kohli.</p>

<p>'83' comes at a time when the Omicron variant has once again spread gloom in the country. There is no better way to forget pandemic woes than to watch a moment in Indian cricket history and celebrate the legends. The win gave birth to India's obsession with cricket and '83' will make you celebrate our heroes once again.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Director Satish Kaushik, who also plays a pivotal role in Kaagaz, said, “I remember reading about the story of Lal Bihari Mritak in the news for the first time, I was intrigued and inspired with his journey, so I did a lot of research on the events that took place in his life. Eventually, it felt to me like this story deserved to be told to the world.”</p>

<p>For the unversed, Lal Bihari Mritak fought a long and hard battle for nearly two decades to prove himself alive, after he was declared dead in the records of the Uttar Pradesh government’s revenue department in 1976. He founded the Mritak Sangh upon realising that there were many others in the state suffering a similar fate.</p>

<p>Bollywood's yesteryear actor-singer Bhagwan Dada's song 'Qismat Ki Hawa Kabhi Naram Kabhi Garam' forms the theme of Anurag Basu's lyrical, poetic anthology 'Ludo'. A story of chaos, of finding love, of finding happiness as life takes its unpredictable course much like a game of dice, 'Ludo' warms you up with its stunning frames, heartwarming performances and its little details.</p>

<p>At the core of the story is Sattu Bhai, a gangster (Pankaj Tripathi) who also serves as the common thread in the four stories. There's a leaked sex tape that an estranged couple must take care of, a desperate wife takes the help of her childhood friend and admirer to get her husband out of the jail who has been wrongly implicated, two uncanny people- united by circumstances and fate are on the run with two big bags full of cash and an ex henchman finds himself in the company of a six-year-old who gives him life lessons that help him find closure.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Much like his previous films, Basu makes 'Ludo' a visually rich experience. Each of the scenes is framed stunningly, with the filmmaker serving as the cinematographer as well as the writer of the film. As a result, Basu implements exactly how he may have envisioned each of the scenes. The characters and their story graph are based on the colours of a Ludo board game. Green is for envy, red is for anger, blue is used for bullying and yellow for happiness. He demarcates the characters and their storyline accordingly- thereby making the film look like a rich palette of colours. Of course, when it comes to Basu, he pays dollops of tribute to filmmakers from the world over. In 'Ludo' there were scenes that looked like an ode to Wong Kar Wai's 'In The Mood For Love' and some of the chase sequences were similar to Charlie Chaplin's style and some to Jacky Chan's. And while many would argue that Basu unnecessary lifts ideas, I feel his tributes are very well incorporated into the plot of a film.&nbsp;</p>

Rao plays a lovelorn Aaloo, who willingly lets hid childhood crush Pinky (Sana Fatima Sheikh) govern his life. He can do anything for her- give up his life savings, rescue her husband from the jail and even get rid of a dead body. Channelising his inner Mithun, Rao's Aalu is a delight to watch - particularly because of how the actor plays him effortlessly.&nbsp;</p>

Bachchan plays Bittu- a once dreaded criminal - who now after serving 6 years jail term- pines for his daughter and estranged wife ( Asha Negi). Circumstances lead him to the Inayat's character- a seven-year-old who is too smart for her age and who herself pines for the attention of her busy parents. Some of the most heartwarming scenes of the film feature these two. The child is talkative while the man is brooding and the two form an uncanny bond of friendship.&nbsp;</p>

One knows how to manipulate the man who has loved her all her life (Sheikh), one openly seeks a rich man to settle down with as a trophy wife (Sanya Malhotra), one is calculative, smart and foresees a better future with a man she has just met(Pearle Maaney). The women in 'Ludo' may not always be speaking out- but are strong individuals who know what they want in life and how to get it.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Since it is an anthology, the filmmaker takes leisurely time to establish each of the plots. A lot is happening on screen and the filmmaker gives a detailed introduction of each track. As a result, the film appears to be long. With multiple chase sequence and several intertwining of plots, it can become a task to keep track of each of the stories. It is certainly a bit chaotic but the flaw is salvaged because of the detailed screenplay which most often leaves you smiling.&nbsp;</p>

'Ludo' does not have as many songs as Basu's last screen outing 'Jagga Jasoos' but even then they are beautiful and leave the last impression. If 'Aabaad Barbaad' is about unrequited love, in 'Meri Tum Ho' love takes ownership. The songs are so picturesque - you want to keep watching them over and over again.</p>

But much like Basu (who also serves as the narrator) himself- you need to sit back and enjoy the chaos on screen. Everyone is chasing something- love, money, happiness - which you may relate to.&nbsp;</p>

<p>With almost all the characters wielding guns and speaking dramatic lines at regular intervals, 'Mirzapur 2' sticks to its basic story on revenge and overrule.</p>

<p>Its cast, comprising mostly of the actors from the first season reprising their roles, remains one of the high point of the series along with its detailed screenplay. Pankaj Tripathi as Kaleen Bhaiya is calm, calculative and hence dangerous. Tripathi brings in the right kind of restraint to the character. Complementing his performance is actor Divyendu, who plays his ruthless, callous and evil son Munna. Divyendu's performance is the first season was a revelation for many and in the second the season, the actor seemed to have taken it a few notches higher.</p>

<p>There's also Ali Fazal and Shweta Tripathi-as Guddu and Golu- the nemesis of Kaleen Bhaiya who no one expected who evolve into such prominent characters in the story.</p>

The first two episodes also give glimpses of two new characters - played by actors Anjum Sharma and Vijay Raaz who in the coming episodes may play key roles in the story.</p>

<p>The writers may have an elaborate story in place, it never really delves deeper. Much like the first season, this one doesn't have too much subtext though from the first two episodes it appears that the women will get prominence in the story and may even take control over Mirzapur.&nbsp; That's been my impression from the first two episodes.</p>

<p>Each episode is one hour long - which is justified considering the number of sub-plots that exist in the storyline.</p>

<p>My only problem from the first two episodes were the endings. They did not make me curious about the next episode as it had in the first season where almost every episode was a cliff- hanger.</p>

<p>High on action and gore, 'Mirzapur 2' delivers what it had promised in its trailer. The plot may not always make sense, the gore may make you squirm in disgust, but a stellar cast easily makes up for the flaws.</p>

<p><strong>Pankaj Tripathi:</strong> We take life too seriously these days. There are so many motivational books around us so almost everyone has become a philosopher, all too serious in life. These books keep telling you to dream big to achieve something in life but I honestly feel sometimes we should just slow everything. Just loosen up, eat and sleep peacefully.&nbsp;I don't take myself seriously, I take work seriously. EMI’s have ruined us all -- for those who have got their loans approved, they have stress to pay it off while others who don’t have an approved loan are under&nbsp;stress to get one.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>WION: Where do you derive this humour from?</strong></p>

<p><strong>Pankaj Tripathi:</strong> I have done theatre. I read books on satire from around the world. Most don’t know but I indulge in a lot of farcical, absurd thoughts. It’s a gift of books. Society has a lot of humour. I am that actor, who has for more than half of his life, travelled by train. I have seen a lot of this world.&nbsp;I have sat and discussed life with people from all kinds of schools of thought.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>WION: Are you excited for your latest film ‘Gunjan Saxena’?</strong></p>

<p><strong>Pankaj Tripathi:</strong> I am excited for the audience's reaction to the film because it’s a good film, an important one. Otherwise I am not very excited in life about anything.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>WION: You play a father in ‘Gunjan Saxena’. How similar are you in real life to that character?</strong></p>

<p><strong>Pankaj Tripathi:</strong> Very close to my real life. I am a father like that. To play other characters, I use my craft, I act but in ‘Gunjan Saxena’ there’s very less acting as I had to play myself.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Pankaj Tripathi: </strong>There should be no difference in bringing up a daughter from a&nbsp;son. As an actor, who’s connected to my audience via films, I want to tell this via the stories I am a part of. And to tell them in an entertaining manner so that they don't feel that I am trying to impart knowledge. Good stories are those that entertain you while putting through a message.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>WION: Where do you stand in the debate of OTT vs Theatre?</strong></p>

<p><strong>Pankaj Tripathi:</strong> I know nothing about cinema trade. I work in films but stay away from the industry physically as well as mentally. Physically, as my house is literally away from where all the action takes place. But I would like to point out that it’s a matter of human behaviour. While OTT offers personal viewing, theatres cater to community viewing and these are two different experiences. The fun in community viewing is not there in personal viewing. The fun of watching a film with 200 odd strangers has another charm. Cinema halls break&nbsp;class and hierarchy. To watch, laugh and cry at scenes with a community of strangers as a whole has a different feel but personal viewing is also important. I feel neither will take away anything from one another.</p>

<p><strong>WION: Which medium do you prefer for your films?</strong></p>

<p><strong>Pankaj Tripathi:</strong> I prefer acting and it happens way before the film’s release. It happens in front of the camera at the time of shooting. As an actor I enjoy the process of filmmaking. Once the film releases, whether it's a hit or a miss and it’s collection is secondary. As an artist, one has fun with the process of filmmaking. I enjoy eating, travelling. Acting is what I love, I can think about that the whole day but the business of it -- doesn’t concern me.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>WION: Since you love food and travel, what was the last place you visited before lockdown?</strong></p>

<p><strong>Pankaj Tripathi: </strong>I was in Rajasthan before lockdown. Mandawa in Shekhawati region is famous for its wooden furniture. I love the food there too. I visited many old havelis, even stayed in some. To be true, I chose acting as a profession for the travel and free food. While shooting for ‘Gunjan Saxena’, I was in Lucknow. Ate Biryani everyday. I love Lucknow’s biryani.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>WION: What was the&nbsp;biggest turning point in your career?</strong></p>

<p><strong>Pankaj Tripathi</strong>: I am that person who takes a turn when he spots one on the diverging road. I had never planned to achieve what I have achieved. I always dreamt of leading a happy life with my family and I continue to do that. I am always focused on that. Life is still the same for me. I can add, however, that people started recognising me after ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>WION: How would you rate yourself as an actor and your best performance?</strong></p>

<p><strong>Pankaj Tripathi:</strong> I am beyond rating and it’s difficult to say which is my best performance. One can't choose a favourite between his kids. However, my most difficult role till date was ‘Gurgaon’ and sadly, the least number of people have watched it. It took more effort as the character was toxic, introvert, alcoholic among other things.</p>

<p><strong>WION: What was the latest thing you streamed during lockdown?</strong></p>

<p><strong>Pankaj Tripathi:</strong> I don’t watch films/ series. I live in a beautiful place outside of Mumbai in the middle of a jungle. There is a lot of greenery here when I stare outside my window.</p>

<p><strong>WION: What’s your stance on the nepotism debate?</strong></p>

<p><strong>Pankaj Tripathi: </strong>Cinema, filmmaking is an art. Film business is the business of art. When business is a part, moral ethics takes a backseat. It’s not a welfare state but we have several examples of people from filmy backgrounds that have not made it. I believe talent and hard work survives. It took me 16 years to reach where I am and that’s okay as it was all organic. I am a result of that struggle. If I am talking to you, my journey speaks for me. I belong to a farmer’s family. It was the last film to get a theatrical release before cinema halls were shut down across the country owing to the coronavirus outbreak. On Wednesday, as the news of his death poured in- his fans and peers from the film industry paid their tributes to the actor. Many even recalled watching 'Angrezi Medium' on Disney + Hotstar where the film was recently released. His co-stars from the film- Ranvir Shorey, Kiku Sharda, Radhika Madan and Kareena Kapoor too paid rich tributes to Irrfan and shared behind the scenes photos from the film's set. <p>Chris Hemsworth's latest film 'Extraction' is a treat for those who love the action genre. High on stunts, the film’s action sequences are brutal, hardcore and in plenty, so much so that the story becomes secondary. Directed by Sam Hargrave who was the stunt director of 'Avengers: Endgame', ‘Extraction’ is nearly a two-hour film of a man trying to rescue a teenage boy from a local Drug lord in Dhaka and his army of men.<br />
<br />
Hemsworth plays Tyler, who is given the job to extract Ovi Mahajan (newcomer Rudraksh Jaiswal) son of Mumbai based drug lord (Pankaj Tripathi) from Dhaka. Ovi has been kidnapped and taken hostage by the local ‘Pablo Escobar’ of the area, Asif (Priyanshu Painyuli) and held captive in a dilapidated house in the outskirts of Dhaka.<br />
<br />
Tyler with the help of Nik (Golshifteh Farahani) and team, tracks Ovi down and is almost about to finish the extraction and the take the boy home when the team advises him to abort the mission as someone has gone rogue in the middle. Meanwhile, Saju (Randeep Hooda) who works for Ovi's father is also on the lookout for the boy which leads to clashes with Tyler. As Tyler and Ovi run around the bustling streets of Dhaka, they have Saju and nearly the entire city police looking for them.</p>

<p>Elaborate and unending action sequences, lots of car chases, hand-to-hand combat and men and children wielding bazookas freely forms rest of the film’s story. The entire film is just that, of men flexing muscles, fighting with each other and Hemsworth turning into a one-man army trying to save the boy from getting killed.<br />

The screenplay written by Joe Russo gives backstories to only three characters that too very sketchy ones. Tyler - an ex Australian mercenary who is yet to come to terms with his young son’s death, Saju- for whom his family holds utmost importance and Ovi, the neglected boy of a mafia lord who develops a fondness for Tyler. The backstories are merely mentioned in a scene or two, they are not very deftly written neither do they add much to the narrative. On the contrary that one scene where Tyler narrates his past to Ovi- in a tender moment of bonding- is one the slowest portions of the film.<br />
<br />
While the film is based in Dhaka, it has been shot in Mumbai, Ahmadabad and Thailand. Of course, the sub-continent in Hollywood is always shown in a certain way. The stories always tend to glamorize the chaos and poverty of the third world. This film is no different. The only portions that are shown in the film are the seedy by-lanes of a very dusty city where people stay in cramped houses with Bollywood music blaring out of them. So typical, no?</p>

The drug lord, of course, employs a bunch of children and who are more than happy to wield guns at whoever their master wants. They are malnourished but full of anger and ready to do anything to please their boss Asif.<br />
The film gives more importance to the action sequences than the story. It is also important to note that it takes a white man to come and rescue a boy in India even as the local guardian(who probably knows the area better than Tyler) plays a second fiddle in the story.</p>

<p>The film, though has to be given credit for not just the action sequences but also for using some local languages like Hindi and Bengali when needed. Instead of making the Indian actors speak in accented English, the director keeps the authenticity intact by making them speak the local language. In one scene even Hemsworth speaks a few words in Bangla!<br />

Shot by Newton Thomas Sigel the scenes give an immersive feeling that make you feel the punches and blows in many cases.<br />

Randeep Hooda, Pankaj Tripathi are let down by poor screenplay. It is a Hemsworth show all the way - who is also one of the co-producers of the film. Hemsworth literally plays a modern version of one his best onscreen characters Thor- but minus the sass. Hemsworth is glum and only knows the language of violence in this film. The only guy who matches Hemsworth's overpowering screen presence is actor Rudraksh Jaiswal who delivers a confident performance as the lonely Ovi. Painyuli shows spark in the limited screen space he has. He adapts the local Dhaka style of Bengali well.<br />
<br />
'Extraction' is technically a very sound film. Slick action, good looking actors fighting it out and some mean stunts. If heavy-duty action thrillers are something that suits your palate, 'Extraction' is an good option. Don’t go by the story so much though.</p>
