The sample of the study included 30 people who had tested positive for coronavirus. All of these people were given either just the anti-malaria drug, or a combination with the antibiotic, or neither.

Earlier, Chinese authorities and doctors were successful in shortening the duration of the infection by using the combination mentioned above.

Out of the sample size of 30, six displayed no symptoms, while 22 had evident symptoms in the upper respiratory tract (sneezing, headaches, and sore throat). Additionally, eight also displayed lower respiratory tract symptoms, which includes mostly coughing.&nbsp;

Out of the 30 people, the anti-malaria drug was effective as a mode of treatment on its own, while it was more effective with the antibiotic.

As reported by TechCrunch, similar tests were successful in China. As the contagion continues to wreak havoc all over the world, researchers are using treatments that have been employed in treating epidemics and pandemics earlier. They are combining and experimenting with the modes of treatment used in treating Ebola, SARS, HIV, and other global outbreaks.

Israel's foreign intelligence service Mossad has obtained coronavirus testing kits for the country, Israeli officials said on Thursday.

While not providing such details, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office issued a statement saying that "Mossad and other agencies" had brought in "required and vital equipment" from abroad to help with the coronavirus crisis.

Separately, the Health Ministry director-general thanked Mossad for providing it with "important and working-order kits" - phrasing that may have been aimed at dispelling media speculation that the equipment could prove defunct.

The official, Moshe Bar Siman-Tov, also thanked Israel's domestic security service Shin Bet for its role in the procurement efforts. The Shin Bet has been under scrutiny after Netanyahu approved using its counter-terrorism mobile phone tracking technologies for mapping out possible viral infections.

The GoM also decided to restrict the public gathering to 20. Earlier, it was restricted to 50 people.

He further said the exams of classes 10 and 12 of the Punjab School Education Board have been postponed till March 31.

All commissioners, deputy commissioners, senior superintendent of police have been directed not to leave their stations, said the minister.

“The government is ready to deal with any eventuality,” he further said, adding that the number of isolation wards would also be increased in hospitals.

The Central government on Thursday allowed 50 per cent of its employees to work from home and the remaining to attend office every day besides implementing different time slots for working hours in its effort to further check the spread of the coronavirus disease.

An order issued by the Personnel Ministry directed the Heads of Departments (HoDs) to ensure that 50 per cent of Group B and C employees are required to attend office every day and the remaining 50 per cent staff is instructed to work from home.

“All HoDs are advised to draft a weekly roster of duty for Group B and C staff and ask them to attend office on alternate weeks. While deciding the roster for the first 
week, HoDs are advised to include officials who are residing in close proximity to their office or use their own transport to travel to the offices,” it said.

The order further said the working hours for all employees who attend office on a particular day should be staggered.

It suggested that three groups of employees be formed and asked to attend office during three time slots — 9 AM to 5.30 PM, 9.30 AM to 6 PM and 10 AM to 6.30 PM, the ministry said.

“The officials who are working from home on a particular day as per the roster drawn up should be available on telephone and electronic means of communication at all times. They should attend office, if called for any exigency of work,” it said.

These instructions shall not apply to the offices and employees engaged in essential/emergency services and those directly engaged in taking measures to control spread of COVID-19, the ministry said.

The Department of Financial Services (DFS) and Department of Public Enterprises (DPE) may issue similar instructions regarding financial institutions and public sector undertakings, it said.

The decision came after the Personnel Ministry on Tuesday asked all central government departments to take precautionary measures.

“Discourage, to the maximum extent, entry of visitors in the office complex. Routine issue of visitor/temporary passes should be suspended with immediate effect. Only those visitors who have proper permission of the officer who they want to meet, should be allowed after being properly screened,” it had said.

All government departments were asked to install thermal scanners as feasible as well as mandatorily place hand sanitisers at the entrances of government buildings.

“Those found having flu-like symptoms may be advised to take proper treatment/quarantine etc.,” the ministry had said.

It said meetings, as far as feasible, should be done through video conferencing. All departments were asked to avoid non-essential official travel of its staff, undertake essential correspondence on official email and avoid sending files and documents to other offices, to the extent possible, and facilitate delivery and receipt of postal documents at the entry points of the office buildings as far as practicable.

“Close all gyms/recreation centres/creches located in government buildings.

Ensure proper cleaning and frequent sanitization of the workplace, particularly of the frequently touched surfaces,” the ministry said.

The order advised the leave sanctioning authorities to sanction leave whenever any request is made for self-quarantine as a precautionary measure.

“Advise all employees who are at higher risk, i.e. older employees, pregnant employees and employees who have underlying medical conditions, to take extra precautions. The ministries/departments may take care not to expose such employees to any front-line work requiring direct contact with the public,” the ministry had said in a communique to all the ministries.

India has tested over 11000 people while it has 3 lakh diagnostic kits.&nbsp;

India's testing capabilities are underutilised. Only 3% of equipment is being used. Lack of voluntary testing and exclusion of private hospitals are also blamed for the low number of tests.

The central government of India has decided to allow accredited private labs to test for Covid-19.&nbsp;

But there are only about 50 to 60 private labs approved by the national accreditation board for laboratories.

How do we test enough number of people in a population of 1.3 billion? What should India do?&nbsp;

Coronavirus outbreak: In a series of shifting epicentres, India needs to improve testing facility to limit the threat

Amid the global coronavirus scare, more than 9,000 people have moved in from Iran to Pakistan through the Taftan border town.

The town of Taftan, which borders Iran is currently hosting the people in a 'tent city', under the guidance of the Balochistan government.

The three places that are becoming the hubs of coronavirus cases in Pakistan are Sukkur with 119 positive cases, Dera Ghazi Khan with five cases, and Dera Ismail Khan with 15 cases.&nbsp;

The club released a statement paying tribute to its former coach: "We want to express our deepest condolences to the family, friends and close friends of our coach Francisco Garcia who has left us, unfortunately. As the world is facing the worst coronavirus outbreak—India has emerged strongly in responding to the crisis so far. Till now, the government of India has rescued 1,497 people, which includes 55 foreign nationals as well.

The deadly coronavirus has crippled large parts of the world, infecting over 1,69,000 and killing more than 6,500 people, mostly in Asia, Africa, Europe and the Americas.

Porous borders, shortage of medical supplies and lack of awareness have made people more vulnerable to the lethal virus—forcing most countries to respond with strong measures to tackle the pandemic.&nbsp;

India has been highly vigilant and proactive in fighting this global health emergency.

It has managed to keep up its efforts in not just controlling the virus spread, but has also carried out timely rescue and evacuation of stranded citizens.

January 28, 2020. India was one of the first countries to initiate evacuation processes after the news of the virus outbreak in Hubei was reported.&nbsp;

Within a few days, 653 Indians and 7 Maldivians were brought back from Wuhan in two batches of 323 and 330.&nbsp;

All of those rescued were monitored in quarantine either at ITBP Chhawla camp or at Manesar facility in the national capital region.

Neighbourhood first policy has always remained important for India.&nbsp;

Unlike, Pakistan which refused to bring back its own citizens from Wuhan, India has rescued both—its own citizens and nationals from countries.&nbsp;

India has a massive diaspora. More than 30 million of them living in different continents away from home.&nbsp;

Among them were fisherman from Kerala stranded in Iran, a huge community of labourers in West Asia and Arabia as well.&nbsp;

Collaborating with Tehran, minister of external affairs S Jaishankar and ambassador Dhamu Gaddam evacuated 389 people from Iran — in four batches.

The latest ones to be evacuated were 52 students and a teacher from Tehran.

An Air India flight in Delhi also landed from Tokyo carrying 119 Indians and 5 nationals from Sri Lanka, Nepal, South Africa and Peru—who were earlier quarantined on board the diamond princess, a cruise ship off the Japanese coast.&nbsp;

Another 211 students and 7 foreign nationals were brought to Delhi from Italy—the second most affected country by a novel coronavirus.

The government of India has responded swiftly and effectively in dealing with the first signs of the infection, which has, so far, affected more than 110 people and killed 2.&nbsp;

Apart from carrying out rescue operations, India has also provided 15 tonnes of medical and relief consignment to china.&nbsp;

In the US state of Massachusetts, at least 82 people who tested positive came from sources who were not displaying any symptoms. Almost six studies suggest that people without symptoms are causing substantial amounts of infection, as first reported by CNN.

Over the last few weeks since the virus spread from Wuhan, China - the pilot epicentre of COVID-19, officials in the US have warned that transmission not involving symptoms is possible. However, they attributed only a small number of cases to such form of transmission. 
 
In conversation with American network ABC, US Secretary of Health and Human Services, Alex Azar claimed that asymptomatic spread is ''not the major driver'' of the pandemic.

"You really need to just focus on the individuals that are symptomatic," he said. "It [the containment strategy] really does depend on the symptomatic presentation", he added.

The sentiment was also echoed by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

"Some spread might be possible before people show symptoms; there have been reports of this occurring with this new coronavirus, but this is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads," claims the CDC website.

However, the US administration's coronavirus response coordinator, Dr Deborah Birx had something else to say. Many people below 20 are not displaying symptoms.
