The International Cricket Council (ICC) is aware that it will be a major challenge for the governing body to convince Team India to travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy in 2025. ICC recently announced the host countries of the major tournaments for the 2024-2031 cycle with Pakistan being awarded the hosting rights for the 2025 Champions Trophy.

India and Pakistan have not engaged in bilateral cricket since 2013 due to the political tensions between the two nations. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had expressed concerns over travelling to Pakistan for the Asia Cup last year before the tournament was eventually suspended due to COVID-19.

ICC chairman Greg Barclay is aware that it will be a difficult task for the ICC to convince the BCCI to travel to Pakistan for Champions Trophy 2025. However, he hopes cricket can be a force to help improve relationships between the two countries as sports bring people together.

“Yeah, we know it’s a particularly challenging issue to work through, but from my point of view, I cannot control geopolitical forces. I just hope cricket can be a force to help improve relationships between countries. That is the one great thing sport can do is help people and nations come together. If it can help in contributing to that, then it is fantastic,” Barclay told reporters on Monday.

While they have not engaged in any bilateral series for eight years now, India and Pakistan have met each other in major ICC events. The arch-rivals last locked horns in the recently-concluded T20 World Cup 2021 where the Babar Azam-led side defeated Virat Kohli & Co. by ten wickets.

Pakistan pacer Hasan Ali was on the receiving end of horrific abuse as he was targeted on social media by trolls after he dropped Matthew Wade's catch in his side's semi-final clash against Australia on Thursday. Pakistan went on to lose the game by five wickets to bow out of the T20 World Cup 2021 as their unbeaten run in the tournament came to an end in the knockout tie.

Ali had a poor outing in the semi-final as he went wicket-less with the ball and ended up dropping Wade in the 19th over of Australia's run-chase. Wade went on to slam three consecutive sixes of Shaheen Afridi in the penultimate over to take Australia over the line comfortably and help them reach the final.

In the aftermath of Pakistan's defeat, Ali was brutally trolled online with some even targeting his partner and his religion over his mistake. The Pakistan pacer found support from the cricket fraternity as several current and former cricketers took to social media to criticise the abuse directed towards Ali.

The Pakistan fast bowler took to Twitter on Saturday to issue an apology to Pakistani fans. Ali said he was more disappointed than them and that the rough patch will make him stronger.

"I know you all are upset because my performance didn’t meet your expectations … but [you] are not more disappointed than me. Don’t change your expectations from me. I want to serve Pakistan cricket at the highest level possible, so back to hard work. This patch will make stronger,” Ali wrote in a tweet.

Pakistan enjoyed a dominant run in the Super 12 stage of the T20 World Cup 2021 as they remained unbeaten in all five matches. However, Babar Azam & Co., who were being touted as one of the favourites for the title, were beaten by Australia in the semi-final to be sent packing from the tournament.

Australia and New Zealand will meet in the final of the tournament at the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai on Sunday (November 14).

The doctor who treated Pakistan's star Mohammad Rizwan, ahead of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2021 semi-final clash against Australia, was astonished by the quick recovery of the player. Despite a hard-fought battle, the Babar Azam & Co. lost the crucial match by five wickets, but Rizwan has been earning praises for showing courage during the match. The 29-year-old Rizwan top-scored for his side despite spending two days in a hospital intensive care unit ahead of the Australia clash due to a chest infection.

The Indian doctor, who treated Rizwan revealed how serious the situation was, praising the wicket-keeper batter's perseverance and passion. Dr Saheer Sainalabdeen, who is a specialist pulmonologist at Medeor Hospital in Dubai, was quoted as saying by Khaleej Times, as he said, "Rizwan had a strong desire to play for his nation in the crucial knockout match. He was strong, determined, and confident. I am astonished at the pace he had recovered."

"He seemed very focused and believed in God. His only thoughts were about the semifinal," the doctor said, adding that the player kept saying that he wants to "play and be with the team".

Pakistan bowed out of T20 World Cup 2021 on Thursday with a five-wicket loss at the hands of Australia in the semi-final. The Babar Azam-led side enjoyed a stellar run in the tournament with five wins in five matches in the Super 12 to finish on top of Group 2 and enter the semi-finals as one of the favourites for the coveted title. However, their dream run was halted by Australia, who secured a spot in the final against New Zealand.

Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar recently spoke about Pakistan's performance in the semi-final, in a video shared on his YouTube channel and explained why the Men in Green lost against the Aussies. Akhtar said it was quite evident that Pakistan skipper Babar Azam couldn't keep his composure in a crunch situation while the Aussies, who are an experienced side, didn't lose the plot and emerged victorious.

"You have to agree here that our (Pakistan) captain is young and new and in the end could not keep composed. On the other hand, Australia is a mature team and there they used their experience, culture, base to remain composed and did not get scared. Pakistan team, though, did not get scared but panicked," said Akhtar in the video.

Batting first, Pakistan got off to a brilliant start in the semi-final against Australia as opener Babar and Mohammad Rizwan posted an opening stand of 71 runs. Rizwan, who slammed a superb knock of 67 runs off 52 balls, then combined with Fakhar Zaman (55 off 32) to help Pakistan post 176 runs on the board.

However, Australia chased down the target with an over to spare as Matthew Wade (41) and Marcus Stoinis (40) posted an unbeaten stand of 81 runs for the sixth wicket and bailed Australia out of crisis to take them over the line in a pressure run chase.

Akhtar said it was Pakistan's best chance to win the T20 World Cup this year but their best was not enough to beat Australia on Thursday as Aaron Finch & Co. entered the final with a convincing win.

We might not get such an easy chance ever again. We tried our best but the best was not good enough for yesterday. The better team won," Akhtar said.

After facing backlash, officials in Pakistan’s Islamabad city have restored a land for the construction of a temple for the minority Hindu community.

Islamabad’s Capital Development Authority (CDA) was severely criticised after it told Islamabad high court, during a hearing, that the allotment for the construction of capital’s first Hindu temple has been cancelled, the Dawn newspaper reported on Tuesday.

Four kanals (0.5 acres) of land was allotted to the community in 2016 for the construction of the first-ever Hindu temple, cremation and community centre.

The CDA said it had to cancel its order following an outcry from the public.

CDA’s counsel Javed Iqbal told the court that the civic agency had already cancelled the plot for the Hindu community in February this year for not starting construction on it.

According to officials, they were following a decision of the government which directed that the allotments of all lands issued to various offices, universities and other institutions on which no construction work had been started to be cancelled.

The officials claimed that they misinterpreted the government’s order and that they ordered to restore the land after it was apprised of the matter.

“We hope this clarifies the confusion the land alloted (sic) to the temple stands valid,” the CDA said in a tweet, along with a notice that showed the notification was withdrawn by the agency.

In July last year, radical Islamist groups had criticised the government for its intention to build a Hindu temple with government funding, following which the CDA had stopped the community from constructing the boundary wall around the plot.

However, the matter was resolved in December when the city managers issued permission to the community to raise the boundary wall around the proposed site.
