At the same time, Eagles upheld other North Carolina restrictions, including a requirement that patients have an in-person consultation before taking the pill and undergo an ultrasound and blood test, saying those requirements had never been explicitly rejected by the FDA.

The Republican leaders of North Carolina's legislature intervened in the case to defend the restrictions after Attorney General Josh Stein, a Democrat who supports abortion rights, said he would not do so. They did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

"Republican legislators enacted the law to control, not protect, women," Stein said in a statement. "I'll keep fighting to protect women's freedoms."

An elderly US couple was found dead inside their home as their room heater went blazing over 500 degrees Celsius. Police said they found the house ‘extremely hot' upon entering through an unsecured window.&nbsp;

Police performed a welfare check on the couple’s house, located in South Carolina state’s northern city of Spartanburg after they got a call from their relatives who had not heard from them since last Wednesday (Jan 3).

Police found the man, 84-year-old Joan Littlejohn, lying on the floor naked facing upwards, and his wife, 82-year-old Glennwood Fowler, clothed and seated in a chair.

The Indian woman identified as Priyanka Tiwari, 33, was arrested after a 911 call prompted&nbsp;the police to respond to a call to her house in Morrisville around 5:35 pm (local time) Wednesday (Dec 20).&nbsp;

The police later determined that a significant amount of time had passed since the child’s death due to the state of the body.&nbsp;

The police said that the boy’s body was in a state of decomposition. The investigators&nbsp;found almost no food in the home.&nbsp;

The police also said the boy had lost an enormous amount of weight in the month before his death. The warrants alleged that she had allegedly been starving the boy, but did not say for how long.&nbsp;

The police believe abuse and neglect were contributing factors in the boy’s death, while the official cause of death remains unknown.&nbsp;

&nbsp;Tiwari, “unlawfully, willfully, and feloniously did of malice aforethought kill and murder (her son),” said the arrest warrant, as per American media reports. “Without the autopsy, we don’t know how the child passed away,” said Morrisville Police Chief Pete Acosta, as quoted by WRAL.

<h2>What happened?</h2>

The incident took place inside the gym at Southeast Raleigh High School. The footage shows a child wearing a grey hoodie and black jacket repeatedly punching another student wearing a red jacket and white t-shirt who then responded with his own punch.

Subsequently, the fight spills into the school gym with other students quickly following the brawl and filming the incident on their phones.&nbsp;

As the fighting escalated, one of the students appeared to jab at two teens with a sharp object before fleeing, reported the New York Times, citing footage obtained by media outlets WRAL News and CBS 17.

Speaking about the victims, the local police chief said that both students were taken to the hospital and one of them later succumbed to his injuries.&nbsp;

“Both victims were transported to an area hospital,” Raleigh police chief Estella Patterson said during a press conference.&nbsp;

“Sadly one victim succumbed to his injuries,” she added. The police chief also called the incident “very unfortunate” and “one that is very disturbing to us.”

The teen who has been accused of stabbing his two peers has been arrested and charged with murder on a juvenile petition, reported WRAL News.&nbsp;

The police said that the student who died was 15 years old and the other student who was injured and is hospitalised is aged 16. Both the victims and the suspect have not been identified.&nbsp;

Cherelle McLaughlin, the mother of the alleged stabber, told WRAL News her son was acting in self-defence and claimed he was concerned for his safety at the school.

GOP supermajorities in the House and Senate passed, over Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper's opposition, a bill banning medical experts from giving hormone therapy, puberty-blocking drugs and surgical gender-transition procedures to anyone under the age of 18, with restricted exceptions.

The law that has been passed, will take effect immediately.&nbsp;However,&nbsp;minors who started their treatments before &nbsp;August 1 will be allowed to receive medical care if doctors deem it necessary with parental consent.

After this move, North Carolina, United States has become the 22nd state to pass the legislation that restricts, and bars gender-affirming medical care for transgender minors.&nbsp;

The bill’s primary backer, Republican Sen. Joyce Krawiec, claimed that the state has a responsibility to safeguard kids from receiving potentially irreversible procedures before they are old enough to make an informed medical decision.

The American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Medical Association and the Endocrine Society consider gender-affirming medical care as safe and medically necessary. Trans minors are generally prescribed drugs to slow puberty and sometimes start taking hormones before they reach adulthood.

19-year-old Nathaniel Dibble and other LGBTQ+ youth who rallied outside the Legislative Building expressed concern over the bill stating that it would make schools a treacherous place for transgender kids who could be banished by teachers or by parents that are not supportive.

Sen. Amy Galey, an Alamance County Republican, argued that parents have the right to know about the details of their children's education.&nbsp;

“Parents need to be brought into the conversation from the very beginning, not treated with suspicion or as the source of that anguish,” she was quoted as saying by AP.

United States: North Carolina bans gender-affirming care for minors

The police in the United States’ southern North Carolina, on Monday (July 31) said they were searching for the driver of an SUV who struck six migrant workers in what “appears to be an intentional assault”. The workers were reported to be wounded but none of the injuries were considered life-threatening, according to the officials.&nbsp;

<h2>What do we know about the incident?</h2>

According to the police, the incident took place on Sunday at 1:15 pm (local time) where the man struck the migrant workers outside of a Walmart Supercenter before fleeing the scene. The supposed attack took place in the North Carolina city of Lincolnton, which is home to around 11,000 people.&nbsp;

The Lincolnton Police Department, in a statement, describing the incident said that it occurred outside the local Walmart, where a motorist of an older model mid-size black Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) hit six migrant workers.&nbsp;

US: At least six injured after man drives into migrant workers in North Carolina

A massive crack, visible to the naked eye, forced a North Carolina amusement park to shut down one of its roller coasters. A man spotted a large crack, which led the support beam to move out of place when a car ran on it with people on the ride.&nbsp;

In a Facebook post on Friday, Jeremy Wagner said that he discovered the crack in the Fury 325 giga roller coaster at the Carowinds amusement park and notified officials. The Fury 325 is one of the tallest and longest rides.&nbsp;

It was temporarily closed after the complaint and a spokesperson for Carowinds told Fox News Digital that the roller coaster was being inspected by the park's maintenance team. Carowinds is located outside of Charlotte.&nbsp;

The park said that the "tallest, fastest, longest giga coaster in North America" will remain closed until inspections and repairs take place.&nbsp;

According to Kings Island in Ohio, a giga roller coaster has a drop between 300 and 399 feet. Carowinds has said that the Fury 325 takes riders to a peak height of 325 feet and reaches at a massive speed of 95mph.&nbsp;

As quoted, the spokesperson said in a statement: "Carowinds closed Fury 325 after park personnel became aware of a crack at the top of a steel support pillar."&nbsp;

It further added, "The park’s maintenance team is conducting a thorough inspection and the ride will remain closed until repairs have been completed."&nbsp;

"Safety is our top priority and we appreciate the patience and understanding of our valued guests during this process. As part of our comprehensive safety protocols, all rides, including Fury 325, undergo daily inspections to ensure their proper functioning and structural integrity," the statement added.

Before the vote, Republican Representative and physician, Kristin Baker, said a doctor's duty is to protect "each and every life, each and every life" thus she was voting in favour.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, Democratic Representative Julie Von Haefen denounced the bill was being rushed and said it "will hurt women" in the state. "Why are you so determined to subvert the popular will of our state?" Von Haefen asked lawmakers.&nbsp;

On Sunday, David Oppenheimer was relaxing on a sun lounger when the bear wandered up to him and made him jump in shock. The moment was caught on video by his door bell camera in his house in Asheville.

“I looked behind me and didn’t see anything,” Oppenheimer told CNN, “But about a minute later, the bear came along and was practically in front of me.”

In the clip, Oppenheimer can be seen relaxing in his chair when the bear suddenly forays into his space while seemingly searching for food. Upon sensing something, Oppenheimer turns his head to find the animal.

For a few seconds, Oppenheimer and the bear stared at each other as both were equally startled and their bodies froze. Thankfully, no one was injured and the furry animal scurried out.

“My eyeballs certainly got a stretch,” Oppenheimer joked. He believes that the bear was relatively young.

However, this isn’t the first instance that these two encountered each other.

They are most commonly spotted in people's backyards or walking around the community, and people aren't really fazed by them.

Oppenheimer said being so close to the bear is "what made it a little awkward" in their encounter, but he's thinking of adding a rearview mirror for his chair, just so he's ready in case it happens again.

"If I saw it coming, I would be more calm," he told USA Today.
