The police report said that fire officials continued to air out the residence “due to the strong odor of natural gas”.

They told authorities that their parents had several health issues and were not easily mobile, adding that the man fell recently while the woman had hip surgery.

What happened?

The Indian woman identified as Priyanka Tiwari, 33, was arrested after a 911 call prompted the police to respond to a call to her house in Morrisville around 5:35 pm (local time) Wednesday (Dec 20).

When officers arrived they were met with a gruesome scene where they found the 10-year-old boy unresponsive and began performing CPR but could not revive the child. The police later determined that a significant amount of time had passed since the child’s death due to the state of the body.

The police said that the boy’s body was in a state of decomposition. The investigators found almost no food in the home.

The police also said the boy had lost an enormous amount of weight in the month before his death. The warrants alleged that she had allegedly been starving the boy, but did not say for how long.

The police believe abuse and neglect were contributing factors in the boy’s death, while the official cause of death remains unknown.

Tiwari, “unlawfully, willfully, and feloniously did of malice aforethought kill and murder (her son),” said the arrest warrant, as per American media reports. “Without the autopsy, we don’t know how the child passed away,” said Morrisville Police Chief Pete Acosta, as quoted by WRAL.

The local police chief said officers had been called to that home eight times this year, although he said one of them was a 911 misdial, reported CBS News.

Acosta also said that most were welfare check requests for Tiwari and “Usually it was someone from India.” He added, “I’m assuming it was a family member who had not been able to reach her in several days.”

According to the police chief, officers first went to the home in March when Tiwari was experiencing a mental health crisis.

The 33-year-old was taken into custody on Thursday (Dec 21) morning and charged with one count of first-degree murder and one count of negligent child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury, reported Law&Crime citing records.

During a brief court hearing on Thursday, a judge ordered Tiwari to be held without bail. She is scheduled for her next court appearance on January 11.

What about Tiwari’s husband?

On March 30, Acosta said her Tiwari’s husband asked police to follow him into the house so he could collect his belongings.

15-year-old student fatally stabbed by peer at North Carolina school, brawl caught on camera

Tropical Storm Ophelia made landfall on North Carolina's coast near Emerald Isle early on Saturday (September 23) as it moved north along the east coast of the United States.

Before the storm made landfall, the governors of North Carolina, Maryland and Virginia declared a state of emergency. It was predicted that Storm Ophelia would bring heavy rainfall as well as tropical-storm-force winds and could lead to minor flooding along the coasts of the states throughout the weekend.

The forecasters had stated that North Carolina and Virginia are likely to receive heavy rainfall of up to 7 inches and the mid-Atlantic region will be getting 2-4 inches of rainfall in the weekend because of the storm.

The officials also placed a warning of tropical storm in places from Cape Fear, North Carolina, to Fenwick Island, Delaware. Around 70,000 homes and businesses faced power outages in Virginia and North Carolina as the storm made landfall.

“When you have that slow-moving storm with several inches of rain, coupled with a gust that gets to 30, 40 miles per hour, that’s enough to bring down a tree or to bring down limbs,” said Duke Energy spokesperson Jeff Brooks, while speaking to WTVD-TV on Saturday. “And that’s what we’ve seen in most of the areas where we’ve experienced outages,” he added.

The Major League Baseball match between the host Washington Nationals and the visiting Atlanta Braves which was scheduled on Saturday (September 23) was postponed to Sunday due to the storm.

Storm likely to weaken towards east coast of US

As per the National Hurricane Center (NHC), the storm carried maximum sustained winds of 65mph as of 8 am Saturday. Gradually, the storm is likely to weaken as it travels north along the east coast of the United States, reaching Maryland by Sunday.

Hurricane specialist with the National Hurricane Centre Philippe Papin said that in the next couple of days, the primary risk carried by the storm system will be the threat of floods due to the rain.

America is, once again, stunned and left uncomfortably numb by bloodshed at a college campus. A University of North Carolina faculty member was shot dead in a campus shooting on the 28th of August.

The Republican-led General Assembly on Wednesday (August 16) overrode the North Carolina Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper's vetoes of the trio of bills targetted at LGBTQ+ youth barring gender-affirming health care for minors, limiting their participation in school sports events and also restricting classroom instructions about gender identity and sexuality.

GOP supermajorities in the House and Senate passed, over Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper's opposition, a bill banning medical experts from giving hormone therapy, puberty-blocking drugs and surgical gender-transition procedures to anyone under the age of 18, with restricted exceptions.

The law that has been passed, will take effect immediately. However, minors who started their treatments before August 1 will be allowed to receive medical care if doctors deem it necessary with parental consent.

After this move, North Carolina, United States has become the 22nd state to pass the legislation that restricts, and bars gender-affirming medical care for transgender minors.

US: At least six injured after man drives into migrant workers in North Carolina

A massive crack, visible to the naked eye, forced a North Carolina amusement park to shut down one of its roller coasters. A man spotted a large crack, which led the support beam to move out of place when a car ran on it with people on the ride.

In a Facebook post on Friday, Jeremy Wagner said that he discovered the crack in the Fury 325 giga roller coaster at the Carowinds amusement park and notified officials. The Fury 325 is one of the tallest and longest rides.

It was temporarily closed after the complaint and a spokesperson for Carowinds told Fox News Digital that the roller coaster was being inspected by the park's maintenance team. Carowinds is located outside of Charlotte.

The park said that the "tallest, fastest, longest giga coaster in North America" will remain closed until inspections and repairs take place.

According to Kings Island in Ohio, a giga roller coaster has a drop between 300 and 399 feet. Carowinds has said that the Fury 325 takes riders to a peak height of 325 feet and reaches at a massive speed of 95mph.

As quoted, the spokesperson said in a statement: "Carowinds closed Fury 325 after park personnel became aware of a crack at the top of a steel support pillar."

It further added, "The park’s maintenance team is conducting a thorough inspection and the ride will remain closed until repairs have been completed."

"Safety is our top priority and we appreciate the patience and understanding of our valued guests during this process. As part of our comprehensive safety protocols, all rides, including Fury 325, undergo daily inspections to ensure their proper functioning and structural integrity," the statement added.

Gun violence in the US

Gun violence has been an ongoing issue in the United States, marked by numerous high-profile mass shootings and a troubling rate of firearm-related homicides.

The prevalence of shootings continues to make headlines, with significant impacts seen in the early months of this year.

According to the Gun Violence Archive, the death toll from gun violence in the United States reached 13,959 as of May 1, 2023, equating to an average of approximately 115 deaths per day.

Among the victims, 85 children and 491 teenagers tragically lost their lives. Notably, a large proportion of gun-related deaths in 2023 have been attributed to suicides, averaging 66 fatalities per day.

The year has also witnessed 184 mass shootings thus far, as defined by the Gun Violence Archive—a distressing classification referring to incidents where four or more individuals are shot or killed. These mass shootings have resulted in 248 deaths and 744 injuries.

It is disheartening to note that a significant number of these incidents occurred in several states, including Texas, California, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Illinois, and Louisiana. The impact of gun violence extends beyond individual incidents, affecting families, communities, and the nation as a whole.

US: 'Active situation' in Denton, residents urged to take shelter after gunshots heard

North Carolina Republican lawmakers overrode a veto by the state's Democratic governor to enact a law on Tuesday (May 16) that cuts the window for most abortions in the southern state from 20 to 12 weeks.

The law bans elective abortions after the first trimester, except in cases of rape, incest, life-limiting fetal anomalies and medical emergencies. It will curtail access to the procedure for millions of women across the U.S. South where a number of states have greatly restricted abortions.

Republican lawmakers were able to override the veto because they hold a supermajority of exactly three-fifths in each chamber, 72-48 in the House and 30-20 in the Senate. Before Governor Roy Cooper vetoed it, the measure whizzed through the legislature in early May in fewer than 48 hours with party-line votes.

Before the vote, Republican Representative and physician, Kristin Baker, said a doctor's duty is to protect "each and every life, each and every life" thus she was voting in favour.

Meanwhile, Democratic Representative Julie Von Haefen denounced the bill was being rushed and said it "will hurt women" in the state. "Why are you so determined to subvert the popular will of our state?" Von Haefen asked lawmakers.

The White House said the law would "harm patients and threaten doctors for providing essential care," and repeated its call for Congress to enshrine abortion access rights into law nationwide.

The measure requires doctors to be present when abortion medication is given and requires those seeking medical abortions to have an in-person consultation with a doctor 72 hours before the procedure. That will make it more difficult for women from out-of-state to obtain an abortion in North Carolina.

The bill includes funding for foster and childcare as well as paid parental leave.

Near-total abortion bans have taken effect in 14 states since the U.S. Supreme Court revoked federal abortion rights in June 2022, according to the Guttmacher Institute, an abortion rights advocacy research group.

Abortions in North Carolina rose by 37%, more than any other state, in the first two months after the ruling, according to a study by the Society of Family Planning, a nonprofit that promotes abortion rights and research.

An afternoon relaxing session for a man in North Carolina took a dramatic turn when he suddenly discovered a black bear wandering into his backyard and staring at him for minutes.

On Sunday, David Oppenheimer was relaxing on a sun lounger when the bear wandered up to him and made him jump in shock. The moment was caught on video by his door bell camera in his house in Asheville.

“I looked behind me and didn’t see anything,” Oppenheimer told CNN, “But about a minute later, the bear came along and was practically in front of me.”

In the clip, Oppenheimer can be seen relaxing in his chair when the bear suddenly forays into his space while seemingly searching for food. Upon sensing something, Oppenheimer turns his head to find the animal.

For a few seconds, Oppenheimer and the bear stared at each other as both were equally startled and their bodies froze. Thankfully, no one was injured and the furry animal scurried out.

“My eyeballs certainly got a stretch,” Oppenheimer joked. He believes that the bear was relatively young.

However, this isn’t the first instance that these two encountered each other.

Oppenheimer said the same bear visited his home a couple times before to inspect trash cans and grab a quick bite from his "bear-proof" bird feeder.

"The bears here are very peaceful," Oppenheimer told CNN. "This one just caught me off guard."

Bears are a common sight in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. Local reports suggest that there have been negligible instances of bear attacks in the area.

There are an estimated 15,000 black bears in the state, according to wildlife officials. Over the last 30 years, the population has expanded at an estimated rate of 6 per cent per year, say reports.

They are most commonly spotted in people's backyards or walking around the community, and people aren't really fazed by them.

Oppenheimer said being so close to the bear is "what made it a little awkward" in their encounter, but he's thinking of adding a rearview mirror for his chair, just so he's ready in case it happens again.

"If I saw it coming, I would be more calm," he told USA Today.

Republicans will now have a veto-proof majority in both the legislative chambers of North Carolina. Former Democratic lawmaker, Rep. Tricia Cotham, is the woman behind this great achievement of the GOP. On Wednesday, she declared that she will be defecting from the Democratic Party because of bullying from fellow Democrats.

Her defection will now enable the Republicans to bypass Governor Roy Cooper, a Democrat. The GOP was just one seat short of the majority in the state house, a gap that has now been filled by Tricia Cotham.

Who is Tricia Cotham?

Cotham is a long-time Democrat from North Carolina. She has served in the state House from 2007 to 2017. Last November, she ran again for the house successfully. Minimum wage, voting rights and bolstering of LGBTQ rights were the key issues that paved the way for her victory. However, her new decision will be landing Republicans in a much more comfortable position in both chambers of the state legislature. The GOP already has a supermajority in the Senate.

How will Tricia Cotham’s decision affect Gov. Roy Cooper?

Gov. Roy Cooper has simply lost control of both the state chambers now. He won’t be able to stop the GOP from enacting their agenda in the swing state. GOP will now easily restrict abortion rights in the state and also tighten voting laws. Since 2017, Cooper has blocked GOP bills and proposals a whopping 75 times, as per a report by NY Times. Now, he has lost his veto.

That’s why Cooper is now training his guns on Cotham and expressing his disappointment with her defection. “This is a disappointing decision,” Cooper said. He added, "It’s hard to believe she would abandon these long-held principles, and she should still vote the way she has always said she would vote when these issues arise, regardless of party affiliation.”

Why did Cotham leave Democratic Party?

Cotham said she had been bullied by her fellow Democrats and had grown distant from the party over issues like school choice. She made a brief speech in which she stated, "The modern-day Democratic Party has become unrecognisable to me and to so many others throughout this state and this country."

She criticised what she called efforts to "control" her and claimed that Democrats in the state had made personal attacks against her and her young children. “They forced me out”, she claimed.

Congratulations to this North Carolina man Pharris Frank who won a whopping $2 million in a Diamond Dazzler scratch-off, reported CNN quoting North Carolina Education Lottery. The man got himself a humble $20 ticket and ended up being super rich. But this is not the first time for him, as he got lucky about two years ago as well when he secured a jackpot of $1 million in a different game in the same lottery.

Good fortune unexpectedly made its way to him. Unlike the previous time, Pharris Frank told the lottery that he was reportedly out of town for work when he purchased the ticket this time.

“It’s cool because the first time I won, it was two miles from my house and this time I was four and a half hours away,” he said. “What are the chances of me being down there at that exact moment in time?" reported CNN.

Although it would appear to be a simple win, Frank's odds of winning the lotto were quite remote. How much bleak?

Well, according to the lottery, Frank's chances of winning the $2,000,000 top prize on the Diamond Dazzler game were around one in 1.5 million. But the fun part is that Frank had anticipated the outcome despite the odds.

“It’s crazy because the day before I won, my buddy was asking me how it felt to win $1 million,” he said. “And I told him that I was going to double it.”

Franck decided that he will not take the $100,000 payment over 20 years but would instead take the big amount of $855,006 in one go after federal tax withholdings, according to the lottery.

Double dazzle: North Carolina man wins $2mn lottery two years after winning $1mn

Gunfire attacks on two electrical substations in North Carolina over the weekend left almost the entire county in the freezing dark. Talking about the matter, Governor Roy Cooper on Monday warned of a "new level of threat". Cooper termed the shootings a criminal attack. The temperatures have dropped down considerably and at least 38,000 households are without power amid the chilling weather conditions.

Schools in Moore County will remain closed for a second day on Tuesday.

Utility workers who were investigating the power outages found that gates had been broken along with evidence of gunfire damage to equipment at two substations in Moore County.

"Protecting critical infrastructure like our power system must be a top priority," said Cooper on Monday. "This kind of attack raises a new level of threat."

The FBI and the US Department of Energy are probing the shootings, along with local and state law enforcement. Neither a motive has been uncovered yet, nor there have been any arrests.

While not much is being revealed by the authorities, Moore County Sheriff Ronnie Fields indicated that whoever planned and carried out the attacks knew how to take out the substations.

The saboteur "knew exactly what they were doing to cause the damage and cause the outage that they did," Fields said.

Speculations are rife that the attacks were a way to protest a planned drag show set for Saturday. However, Fields said law enforcement had not found any evidence to support this claim yet.

Meanwhile, show organisers at the Sunrise Theater said that far-right activists had been trying to shut down the show for weeks, the Fayetteville Observer reported quoting theater's executive director, Kevin Dietzel.

The newspaper reported that the show was held on Saturday despite the power outages.

Duke Energy DUK.N said power had been electricity to about 7,000 customers by Monday afternoon, from a total of 45,000 who had lost power after the shootings. That's nearly everyone who the company serves in Moore County, spokesman Jeff Brooks said at a press briefing on Monday.

Brooks said that for most customers, power would likely be out through Wednesday or Thursday, because the damage to the two substations was extensive.

While the particular vertical was not hiring anyone, Blackburn still decided to let the team know who she was. The Nike team was reportedly celebrating its JDI day (Just Do It day) when Blackburn sought to use the opportunity. Read more: A woman adds 'sex work' as professional experience on LinkedIn. The Supreme Court on Monday allowed congressional maps that had been approved by state courts in North Carolina and Pennsylvania to stand, giving Democrats a leg up in this year’s election in two key states.

In issuing the orders, the Supreme Court rejected requests by Republicans to restore maps approved by GOP-controlled state legislatures. Those district lines were thrown out and replaced by courts in both states after challenges by Democrats.

Under the new court-imposed maps in both states, Democrats are likely to gain more seats than they would have under the legislature-approved versions.

But in the North Carolina case, there were signs that at least four of the court’s more conservative justices could later rule that state courts are powerless to change congressional maps adopted by state legislatures.

Such a ruling would fundamentally alter how congressional elections are conducted and amplify partisan gerrymandering, allowing the party that controls the legislature to draw voting districts favoring its candidates.

But that will not happen before this fall’s election.

Stanton Jones, a lawyer for some of the plaintiffs who had challenged the North Carolina map, said the Supreme Court’s order meant that “North Carolina voters will now be able to vote in free and fair congressional elections this year.”

He said that for now, the order signaled an end to “a decade of extreme Republican gerrymanders.”

Still, the court’s three most conservative members — Justices Samuel Alito, Clarence Thomas and Neil Gorsuch — said they would have blocked the North Carolina map because it was likely that the state Supreme Court had violated the Constitution in overriding the state Legislature.

“There must be some limit on the authority of state courts to countermand actions taken by state legislatures when they are prescribing rules for the conduct of federal elections,” Alito wrote.

Justice Brett Kavanaugh filed a short concurring opinion agreeing that the question posed by the case was a substantial one. But he said the court should address it in the ordinary course rather than in response to an emergency application.

Taken together, the two opinions suggested that there are four justices ready to add a case on the question to the court’s docket when it is next presented in a petition seeking the court’s review rather than on what critics call the court’s shadow docket. It takes four votes to grant such review.

But it takes five votes to prevail. The swing vote would almost certainly belong to Justice Amy Coney Barrett.

In a second order in the Pennsylvania case, the court provisionally turned down a similar application on technical grounds without noted dissent.

The North Carolina Supreme Court had rejected a map drawn by Republican lawmakers that effectively gave their party at least 10 of the state’s 14 House seats, notwithstanding that voters statewide are roughly equally divided between the two parties.

A three-judge panel of the state Superior Court in Raleigh instead adopted a new map drawn by a nonpartisan panel of redistricting experts that appeared to split North Carolina’s congressional districts roughly equally between Republicans and Democrats. It gave each party six relatively safe House seats and made the other two competitive.

After the state Supreme Court refused to block that ruling, Republican state officials asked the U.S. Supreme Court to step in.

In the Pennsylvania case, the state Supreme Court adopted a map that appears to give Republicans nine fairly safe seats and Democrats eight, according to an analysis by the nonpartisan Campaign Legal Center. Each party currently holds nine House seats, but Pennsylvania will lose a seat next year because of reapportionment after the 2020 census.

Voters and a Republican candidate for the House sued state officials in federal court to challenge the new map. When they did not receive immediate relief, they asked the U.S. Supreme Court to intervene.

Both emergency applications relied on the Elections Clause of the Constitution, which says “the times, places and manner of holding elections for senators and representatives, shall be prescribed in each state by the legislature thereof.” That meant, the challengers argued, that the state legislature has sole responsibility for drawing congressional districts and that state courts have no role to play.

“The question presented here,” North Carolina Republicans wrote in their application, “goes to the very core of this nation’s democratic republic: what entity has the constitutional authority to set the rules of the road for federal elections.”

The North Carolina Supreme Court rejected that argument, sometimes called the independent state legislature doctrine, saying it was “repugnant to the sovereignty of states, the authority of state constitutions and the independence of state courts, and would produce absurd and dangerous consequences.”

But four justices of the U.S. Supreme Court have suggested that they are sympathetic to the doctrine. Three opinions issued in October 2020 seemed to endorse it.

“The provisions of the federal Constitution conferring on state legislatures, not state courts, the authority to make rules governing federal elections would be meaningless if a state court could override the rules adopted by the legislature simply by claiming that a state constitutional provision gave the courts the authority to make whatever rules it thought appropriate for the conduct of a fair election,” Alito, joined by Gorsuch and Thomas, wrote in a statement when the court refused to fast-track review of whether the Pennsylvania Supreme Court could alter deadlines for mail ballots set by the legislature.

Along the same lines, Gorsuch, joined by Kavanaugh, wrote in a concurring opinion that “the Constitution provides that state legislatures — not federal judges, not state judges, not state governors, not other state officials — bear primary responsibility for setting election rules.”

Kavanaugh, in another concurring opinion, wrote that “under the U.S. Constitution, the state courts do not have a blank check to rewrite state election laws for federal elections.”

Several Supreme Court decisions cut in the opposite direction.

In 2019, for instance, when the Supreme Court closed the doors of federal courts to claims of partisan gerrymandering in Rucho v. Common Cause, Chief Justice John Roberts, writing for the five most conservative members of the court, said state courts could continue to hear such cases — including in the context of congressional redistricting.

“Our conclusion does not condone excessive partisan gerrymandering,” he wrote. “Nor does our conclusion condemn complaints about districting to echo into a void. The states, for example, are actively addressing the issue on a number of fronts.”

He gave an example: “In 2015, the Supreme Court of Florida struck down that state’s congressional districting plan as a violation of the Fair Districts Amendment to the Florida Constitution,” adding that “provisions in state statutes and state constitutions can provide standards and guidance for state courts to apply.”

In 2015, in Arizona State Legislature v. Arizona Independent Redistricting Commission, the court ruled that Arizona’s voters were entitled to try to make the process of drawing congressional district lines less partisan by creating an independent redistricting commission notwithstanding the Elections Clause.

“Nothing in that clause instructs, nor has this court ever held, that a state legislature may prescribe regulations on the time, place and manner of holding federal elections in defiance of provisions of the state’s constitution,” Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who died in 2020, wrote in the majority opinion in the 5-4 decision.

US Supreme Court allows court-imposed voting maps in North Carolina and Pennsylvania

An unconventional yet cryptic advertisement drew the attention of thousands who were thronging to the Bank of America Stadium in North Carolina’s Charlotte city, US, to witness a football game.

“Don’t get vaccinated,” read the digital billboards on a black truck’s side and rear panels.

Below the message on the billboard was the name and website of Wilmore Funeral Home. However, the advertisement contained a hidden message.

While visiting the website, people found that the funeral home mentioned on the truck did not exist and were instead greeted with this message: “Get vaccinated now. If not, see you soon.”

The whole idea was the brainchild of an advertising firm, BooneOakley, who decided to tackle the vaccine hesitancy and scepticism among the Americans with a novel approach.

Charlotte city has less than half its population is fully vaccinated. The ad agency director, David Oakley, said he needed something “out of the box” to persuade the people to get vaccinated.

“I just feel like conventional advertising is not working. Like, just regular messages that say 'Get the Shot' or 'Go Get Vaccinated' ... they just kind of blend in with everything else,” Oakley told CNN.

“We wanted to do something that saw it from a different perspective and kind of shocks people into thinking, ‘Holy moly, man’.”

The advertisement received wide applause from the netizens in the US, with a Twitter user calling it “God-tier marketing”.

Another school shooting rocked the state of North Carolina in the US on Wednesday, leaving one student dead.

Around 12:07 pm, someone from inside the Mount Tabor High School called the local police reporting an ongoing shooting in the school premises.

Authorities with emergency services were immediately dispatched to the school in Winston Salem as the suspect ran for his life.

The suspect was at large for several hours after the shooting, but was eventually caught and taken into custody without any further violence, the sheriff’s office reported.

As per local reports and claims by local people, two students started beating each other, which then resulted in one of them firing a gun at the other student.

As of now, the motive behind this shooting is not yet clear and the police has not yet disclosed the identity of the shooter.

All schools in the neighbouring area were immediately put on a lockdown as a precaution. However, no further cases of violence were reported.

All students were immediately moved to the Harris Teeter Shopping Center in the same neighbourhood, from where the parents could meet and pick up their traumatised children. The school authorities took nearly 1,000 students to the shopping center in waves.

However, the scene at the shopping centre was also very chaotic as rumours were flying around about another possible shooting. The local police department has rubbished these rumours.

Two African-American half-brothers who spent 31 years in prison in the southern US state of North Carolina for a crime they did not commit have been awarded $84 million, their lawyer said Monday.

"This is the largest jury verdict ever returned in a wrongful conviction case in the history of the United States," Des Hogan told AFP.

Henry Lee McCollum and his half-brother Leon Brown, both of whom are intellectually disabled, were convicted of the 1983 rape and murder of an 11-year-old girl.

They were respectively 19 and 15 years old at the time of their arrest and claimed to have been forced to sign confessions.

Their convictions were overturned in 2014 after the discovery of DNA evidence that placed another man at the scene where the girl's body was found.

McCollum and Brown pursued a federal civil rights case and a jury on Friday awarded them a total of $84 million in compensatory damages, punitive damages and interest.

"The jury sent a message that the old times of ignoring the rights of the poor, the people of colour, the marginalised in rural counties, are gone," Hogan said.

"They are thrilled that they won, they are happy that the jury said the sheriff was wrong," Hogan said. "They were vindicated."

US President Donald Trump's daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, may be considering to run for Senate in North Carolina in 2022, as per reports by US media.

The reports have come a few weeks after Donald Trump lost to Joe Biden in the US elections and alleged voter fraud and manipulation in mail-in voting.

The Democrat contestant Joe Biden is leading the race in the states Michigan and Wisconsin, according to a survey. Donald Trump, however, is trying to match the increasing number in North Carolina and Arizona.

With just two days left for the US election, opinion polls and surveys are calculating the chances of the two leaders in different states and demographics. The two leaders, Donald Trump and Joe Biden have been busy campaigning in the few key states.

The survey has been conducted by the Amerian media organisation CNN and concludes that Joe Biden is leading in the two states (Michigan and Wisconsin) and leading a close competition in North Carolina and Arizona — all these four states were winning territories of Donald trump in 2016 US elections.

As per the survey, Biden is leading the race among the people who have already voted, either in-person or through the in-mail voting system. However, Trump is leading by a huge margin among people who plan to vote on November 03. While Biden is leading the race, for now, this margin could help Trump win the election, which would be a repeat of the 2016 US election.

The figures from Arizona show Biden leading with a support figure of 50 per cent while Trump is following closely with a support sample of 46 per cent. In Wisconsin, a state that supported Trump in 2016, the President is trailing behind with 44 per cent support, and Biden is leading with 52 per cent votes. Michigan, on the other hand, is a state with one of the highest margins between the two candidates with Biden leading with 53 per cent and Trump struggling to diminish the widening ga with just 41 per cent supporters.

However, the scenario changes tad bit in North Carolina where Biden and Trump are closely rushing towards the finish line with 51 and 45 per cent votes. The gap is expected to fill in faster than expected once people start voting on the election day.

The voter demographic in state of Michigan and Wisconsin mainly comprises of white nationals, which is not the case for Arizona or North Carolina. Interestingly, the states with a larger White population have Joe Biden in the lead, and the states with lesser White population have a very little margin between the two candidates. This has come as an unexpected turn as the White voter bank has usually voted for Republicans, especially with the recent civil unrest due to the social movements such as Black Lives Matter.

White voters with college degrees in both Michigan and Wisconsin have lent nearly 61 per cent support to the Democrat candidate, and the state of North Carolina is lagging with 51 per cent and Arizona with 50 per cent supporters giving a chance to Biden. Trump, on the other hand, is winning among the white voters without a college degree with a winning number of 64 per cent supporters.

The voting pattern in the women of the four states is quite similar with nearly 55 per cent women supporting Biden, and abandoning Trump. However, men in North Carolina and Arizona are lending their support to trump, and Michigan and Wisconsin men are balancing between the two leaders, for now.

One major issue that has driven people away from trump in these four states, which he had won in the 2016 elections, is their disapproval with the way the President handled the coronavirus pandemic in the US. Nearly 51 per cent people showed their disapproval in Arizona and 56 per cent in Michigan.

The survey results have been observed through random samples of roughly 1,000 adults in each state who were interviewed on phone between October 23 and 30. "Results among likely voters have a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 4.1 percentage points in Arizona, 3.8 points in Michigan, 4.0 points in North Carolina and 3.9 points in Wisconsin," CNN said.
