Former New Zealand battler Lou Vincent can continue to play domestic cricket or any level below with immediate effect after the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) revised the life ban imposed on him for corruption in 2014.

ECB's Cricket Discipline Commission (CDC) released a statement on Friday to revoke the life ban imposed on the former Kiwi player which read, "The Cricket Discipline Commission (CDC) has revised the life ban imposed in June 2014 on former New Zealand international Lou Vincent."

"This decision was reached following careful consideration of the specific circumstances of Mr Vincent's case and the supporting evidence and representations from a number of major cricket stakeholders including the International Cricket Council, New Zealand Cricket and the England and Wales Cricket Board and a host of others," the statement further added.

In 2014, the ECB imposed a life ban on the right-handed batter which restricted him from playing cricket at any level, entering any cricket ground, or coaching the game in a professional capacity.

After Vincent sent an application in August earlier this year, Gerard Elias CBE KC on behalf of the CDC decided to revise the life ban imposed on Vincent.

Vincent expressed his delight after he was given a second chance in his cricket career.

New Zealand have been dealt with a big blow ahead of their crucial clash versus Pakistan, in Bengaluru, on Saturday (Nov 4). Matt Henry, one of their key performers in the ODI World Cup, has been ruled out with a torn right hamstring. Fast-bowling all-rounder Kyle Jamieson has been named as a replacement. He was already called in as cover when Henry's scan results were awaited.

On Friday (Nov 3), the Black Caps' official Instagram handle posted saying, "Matt Henry has been ruled out of the ICC Cricket World Cup in India with a torn right hamstring and has been replaced in the BLACKCAPS squad by Kyle Jamieson. Henry sustained the injury during Wednesday’s match against South Africa in Pune, with an MRI scan confirming he has a grade two lower tear which will require at least two to four weeks to recover from." 
 
Coach Gary Stead said the whole team was thinking of Henry. “We’re gutted for him,” Stead said in Bengaluru.

“Matt’s been a crucial part of our One Day side for a long time and to see him ruled out as we reach the business end of this tournament is immensely disappointing. He’s consistently been ranked inside the ICC top 10 ODI bowlers for the past few years which is a testament to his class and skills. Moreover, Matt’s a great team man and we’re all going to miss his personality and experience.” 
 
It is to be noted that Jamieson arrived in Bengaluru late on Thursday and is expected to train with the national side on Friday.

"It's been quite a journey but largely a good one that's had some really good progress and you know I've said a number of times, really excited to be named in the World Cup squad, be sitting here now and really excited at the prospect of tomorrow," he said on Thursday.

The Black Caps have never won the World Cup, though they came agonisingly close in 2019, beaten by an England team who had scored more boundaries in the match.

That contrasts with the All Blacks, who have won the Rugby World Cup three times and play Ireland in the quarter-finals in France on Saturday.

Williamson, 33, was asked whether that legacy&nbsp;of success inspired his men.

"We love the All Blacks," he said. "You know, coming from&nbsp;New&nbsp;Zealand&nbsp;obviously rugby is our number one game and so I think everybody in the squad is pretty passionate about rugby and following their journey at the moment at the World Cup and the success that they've had.

"For us, we've had some really enjoyable times recently and got pretty close, but you still have to start again. And there's been some good performances so far."

He added: "We're here as a cricket team but I think something that you do hear often about their side is their culture, their environment, and their ability to keep moving forward as a team and adapting to what's in front of them, whether that's the movement of the game and how that keeps changing and evolving.&nbsp;

"They keep doing really well at staying ahead of that curve. We just want to keep getting better as a side, keep growing as a side and that's our focus."

<h2>'Small steps'</h2>

Williamson is a key batsman for&nbsp;New&nbsp;Zealand, amassing 6,554 runs in one-day international cricket at an impressive average of nearly 48.&nbsp;

He said his return had involved a "series of really small steps", admitting there were doubts over whether he would be fit to play any part in the tournament although he did feature in the pre-event warm-up schedule.

"To be honest, it was probably a good thing just to get my head stuck into rehab each day and not sort of rush it and that was really my focus," he said.

"And I was fortunate as well I had a really, really good team around me back home and also fortunate not to have a lot of setbacks during that time, so there were lots of little steps forward which I guess accumulate to being here now really."

New Zealand won their second ODI World Cup 2023 game against the Netherlands by 99 runs, consolidating their position at the top of the table. The fact that New Zealand were without their top batter and regular skipper Kane Williamson and ace bowler Tim Southee, makes these two wins even more sweet.

While Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra hit centuries in the first game for New Zealand against England, all the top five batters scored runs in their second game against the Dutch as the Kiwis posted 322/7 in their 50 overs.

For the Blackcaps, Will Young scored 70 while the first game's Player of the Match Rachin Ravindra scored 51 in the Netherlands games. Apart from them, Daryl Mitchell scored 48 and stand-in skipper Tom Latham also managed to contribute 53.&nbsp;

Speaking on the same, WION's cricket expert and 1996 World Cup-winning coach Dav Whatmore said that it could either be Glenn Phillips or Mark Chapman.

"It could either be Glenn Phillis or Mark Chapman who's going to be dropped when Kane Williamson comes back as rest of the batters are scoring runs," said Whatmore.

The chances are Chapman will get the sack rather than Phillips as the latter had been handy with his spin in the first game against England.

As for the bowling department, Tim Southee could replace Trent Boult who has been off-colour in the first two games for New Zealand while Matt Henry has done well.

In the spin department, Ravindra and Mitchell Santner, who took a five-for in the game against the Netherlands, seem a lock-in in the side for the next game as well.

New Zealand fast bowler Tim Southee has been cleared to join the Kiwi ODI World Cup squad. The pacer had fractured his right thumb in the fourth and final ODI against England last month and flew&nbsp;back home afterwards.

Southee had surgery on his fractured thumb and continues to recover from the injury ahead of the Black Caps' opening match on the first day of the World Cup against England on October 5. If fit to play, it would be Southee's fourth appearance in the World Cup, having previously played in 2011, 2015 and 2019 editions of the quadrennial event.

Southee has been a stalwart of New Zealand cricket since making his debut in 2008. The pacer has played in 157 ODIs, taking 214 wickets with a best of 7/33. Bangladesh bowler Hasan Mahmud ran New Zealander Ish Sodhi out at the non-striker's end during the second ODI between the two teams in Mirpur on Saturday, September 23. Litton Das, the skipper of host team, however, decided to withdraw the appeal and called Sodhi back on the crease.

The incident happened in the 46th over of New Zealand batting and Sodhi was batting on 17 at the time. The leg-spinner went on to score 35 runs in the end as the Blackcaps posted modest 254 on a slow and turning pitch. New Zealand spinner Ish Sodhi produced most satisfying performance of his career which included a maiden five-wicket haul as he claimed a six-for in his team's win over Bangladesh in second ODI. The performance came at the right time with ODI World Cup just around the corner.&nbsp;

"The most satisfying wicket actually was the fifth wicket," Sodhi said after the match. "Not necessarily because it was five wickets but I worked really hard on my run-up to bowl a fraction quicker compared to a year or two ago. That was the type of delivery that I was working hard towards. It was really pleasing to see that it got me a wicket."

Speaking on if he has changed in his bowling to be be more successful, Sodhi said he tried&nbsp;to get more skiddy.

"A lot of the really successful new-age leg spinners are a lot shorter than what I am. They get the ball to skid to keep the stumps in play all the time. I thought that the bounce could play against me sometimes. One, they don't actually hit the stumps.

"Sometimes on slow wickets, I can sit in the wickets a little bit more. I was trying to add the skiddy sort of nature to my game by changing my run-up a year ago. Certainly not trying to neglect my height as well. I am trying to use it as much as I can," he said.

Talking about his performance, the spinner definitely liked it and hoped for more such performances in the coming years.

"It is great to be in the company [of bowlers taking six-fors in ODIs]. I can hopefully produce some match-winning performances for New Zealand in the coming years," he said.

England crushed New Zealand by 100 runs in the fourth one-day international at Lord's on Friday to seal a morale-boosting 3-1 series victory as they fine-tune preparations for their World Cup defence.

Jos Buttler's power-packed team were indebted to opener Dawid Malan, who made a sparkling 127 off 114 balls in a total of 311-9 at a sun-drenched Lord's.

New Zealand, dramatically beaten by England in the 2019 World Cup final on the same ground, made a solid start but early wickets slowed their momentum and they were dismissed for 211 in 38.2 overs.

Both teams were missing a clutch of first-choice players for what served as a dress rehearsal for the opening match of the World Cup in the Indian city of Ahmedabad on October 5.

The visitors were reduced to 52-3 when Daryl Mitchell was bowled by paceman Brydon Carse with his third ball.

Ben Stokes records highest individual score for England in ODIs with sensational ton against New Zealand

New Zealand have announced their 15-man squad for the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup scheduled to be held in India from October 5. There were no surprises in the Kiwi squad with all the expected players making the cut. Adam Milne, the recently-injured fast bowler, was left out while all-rounder Rachin Ravindra was given a spot in the team. Apart from Milne, opening batsman Finn Allen also missed out.

Milne had played in the 2015 World Cup but has been sidelined ever since with injuries. He made a comeback to the ODI side in 2022 but picked up an injury in the ongoing four-match ODI series against England.

"We had to make a decision, ultimately, for the opening batting position and it came down Finn and Will Young," New Zealand coach Gary Stead said. "And we just felt that when we looked through what the potential gameplan was looking like in India, looked at the grounds, and also looked at the form of the two players as well that Youngy was the right guy to go with.

New Zealand fast bowler Adam Milne has been ruled out of the ongoing ODI series against England after picking up an injury. The Kiwis are currently in England for a four-match ODI series and lead it 1-0. Milne didn't play the first ODI either. The fast bowler, who has suffered from a low-grade hamstring injury, is now also under a shadow of doubt to make it to the final ICC ODI World Cup squad for the BlackCaps.

While New Zealand have selected a 15-man provisional squad for the quadrennial tournament, changes can be done till September 28 without permission from the ICC. New Zealand are expected to name their final 15 in an event on Monday, September 11.

Speaking on the injury, New Zealand coach Gary Stead said: "We have short turnarounds between these matches and want to try and look after the players as much as possible with the upcoming schedule.

But his assault ended when he failed to clear long-on after lofting Santner down the ground.&nbsp;

Ish Sodhi, another of New Zealand's spinners, induced ring star Harry Brook -- left out of England's provisional World Cup squad -- to hole out for four before Santner removed both Malan and Moeen in the 16th over.

Bairstow suffered a shoulder injury while batting with the result that regular white-ball keeper Buttler was drafted in as emergency cover behind the stumps.

Seifert hammered Brydon Carse and Luke Wood for sixes before leaping teenage leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed had him caught and bowled in a return of 2-27 on his return to the team.

New Zealand cricket's new chief executive Scott Weenink is a 'Test cricket romantic' and will be looking to promote the same while ensuring that the Black Caps play revenue games as well. Weenink, 50, took over David White on August 30 and made the comments at his first press conference in Auckland.

"I'm a Test cricket romantic but also I see Test cricket as being key to keeping players playing for New Zealand," Weenink said. "I think if we didn't have Test cricket, it'd be much harder to keep them interested in that. They'd simply, you know, come back and play an ICC [event]. So absolutely, I'll be looking to try and promote Test cricket while balancing the fact that we do need to play the higher revenue parts of the game as well.

Speaking on being offered the role, Weenink said it was an 'honour' and that his key responsibility will be to maintain the relationship New Zealand cricket has with the community.

Speaking on his appointment, NZ Cricket Board chairman Martin Snedden said, "Scott understands cricket. He understands its context in New Zealand; where it's come from, where it is now, and where it should be going."&nbsp;
