<p>A resident from Manhattan pleaded guilty to setting up a secret police station for the Chinese government in New York City.</p>

<p>60-year-old Chen Jinping entered the guilty plea on a single count of conspiracy for acting as a foreign government's agent in Brooklyn federal court on Wednesday (Dec 18).</p>

<p>The US Department of Justice's Assistant Attorney General Matthew Olsen said Chen had admitted in court to his role in “audaciously establishing an undeclared police station” in Manhattan and made an attempt to conceal his efforts when the FBI approached him.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“This illegal police station was not opened in the interest of public safety, but to further the nefarious and repressive aims of the PRC in direct violation of American sovereignty,” Olsen said in a statement while making reference to the People’s Republic of China.</p>

<p>According to prosecutors, a local branch of China’s Ministry of Public Security was opened by Chen and his co-defendant Lu Jianwang in Manhattan’s Chinatown neighbourhood in 2022.</p>

<p>“This illegal police station was not opened in the interest of public safety, but to further the nefarious and repressive aims of the [People’s Republic of China] in direct violation of American sovereignty,” said James Dennehy, FBI assistant director in charge, in a statement.</p>

<h2><strong>China denies allegations</strong></h2>

<p>China's government officials have time and again denied running such police stations in other countries to monitor the Chinese nationals who are living there.</p>

<p>“There are no so-called Chinese police service stations overseas at all,” said Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning in a Beijing briefing.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“China’s law enforcement agencies carry out cooperation in international law enforcement in strict accordance with international law, fully respect other countries’ laws and judicial sovereignty, and safeguard the lawful rights and interests of the suspects," she added.</p>

<p>It is believed that China has been running such secretive police outposts in North America, Europe, and other places where Chinese communities are living.</p>

<p>In a successful test, a supersonic aircraft—which has the nickname “Son of Concorde”—came close to the speed of sound Mach 1 on Tuesday (Nov 5). This aircraft can now help travellers fly between New York and London in only three and a half hours.</p>

<p>This 201-foot-long single-seat XB-1 test model by American company Boom Technology reached 499 knots, which is around 574 miles per hour, in the milestone test, which took place at 23,015 feet&nbsp;above Mojave, California.</p>

<p>This was the seventh planned flight, which was carried out by former Navy test pilot Tristan “Geppetto” Brandenburg since March to “progress toward supersonic flight” as per the company, and the test has brought them close to restoring the rapid form of air travel safely and effectively.</p>

<p>The aircraft’s predecessor, the Concorde, could fly from London to New York in just three hours before it retired in 2003.</p>

<p>As per allegations, in April 2022, a Turkish official won assurances from Adams that the mayor won’t speak about the Armenian Genocide as the Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day was approaching.</p>

<p>“Adams did not make such a statement,” the indictment said. Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day commemorates the killings of more than 1.5 million Armenians by Turks more than a century ago.</p>

NYC Mayor Adams charged with bribery, fraud; accused of acting on Turkey’s behalf

<p>New York City (NYC)&nbsp;Mayor Eric Adams has been indicted by a grand jury on federal criminal charges after a corruption investigation, according to a report in the&nbsp;<em>NY Post.&nbsp;</em>&nbsp;Although the indictment is sealed and it is unclear what exact charges he will face, it is the first time that a sitting NYC mayor has been indicted in 170 years.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Reports state that the indictment relates to the allegations of the Turkish government illegally funnelling money unto his mayoral campaign in exchange for approval of the Turkish consulate in Manhattan.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The law enforcement agencies are also seeking information about Adam's interaction with Israel, China, Qatar, South Korea and Uzbekistan.</p>

<p>Adams has denied wrongdoing and said he had been made a target for standing his ground. He also vowed not to resign as the charges were "based on lies".</p>

<p>“I always knew that if I stood my ground for New Yorkers that I would be a target — and a target I became,” Adams was quoted as saying by the <em>Post </em>after the indictment.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“If I am charged, I am innocent, and I will fight this with every ounce of my strength and spirit.”&nbsp;</p>

<p>The largest US city has been under a tumultuous period administration-wise for the last month. After the FBI agents seized&nbsp;Police Commissioner Edward Caban's phone, he resigned a week later on&nbsp;September&nbsp;12.&nbsp;Adams' chief legal adviser also resigned, saying she could "no longer effectively serve" in the position.</p>

<p>Reports suggest that the indictment could be unsealed on Thursday (Sep 26) by US Attorney Damian Williams with Adams expected to surrender to authorities early next week.&nbsp;</p>

Reports state that the indictment relates to the allegations of the Turkish government illegally funnelling money unto his mayoral campaign in exchange for approval of the Turkish consulate in Manhattan. The law enforcement agencies are also seeking information about Adam's interaction with Israel, China, Qatar, South Korea and Uzbekistan. Adams has denied wrongdoing and said he had been made a target for standing his ground. He also vowed not to resign as the charges were "based on lies". “I always knew that if I stood my ground for New Yorkers that I would be a target — and a target I became,” Adams was quoted as saying by the Post after the indictment. “If I am charged, I am innocent, and I will fight this with every ounce of my strength and spirit.” The largest US city has been under a tumultuous period administration-wise for the last month. After the FBI agents seized Police Commissioner Edward Caban's phone, he resigned a week later on September 12. Adams' chief legal adviser also resigned, saying she could "no longer effectively serve" in the position. Reports suggest that the indictment could be unsealed on Thursday (Sep 26) by US Attorney Damian Williams with Adams expected to surrender to authorities early next week. <p>An Indian-origin former New York City senior health advisor was fired from his job at SIGA Technologies after he was caught on camera confessing about participating in drug-fuelled sex parties during the COVID-19&nbsp;pandemic.</p>

<p>Dr Jay Varma, who was responsible for coordinating the response of the city to the pandemic, was removed from his position as executive vice president and chief medical officer at SIGA Technologies.</p>

<p>After his termination, Dr Varma's hidden camera footage was shared by podcaster Steven Crowder.</p>

<p>In the video, Dr Varma was seen boasting about taking part in underground raves and hosting sex parties as the city remained in severe lockdowns.</p>

<p>In the video released by the podcaster, Dr Varma was recorded as saying, “I had to be kind of sneaky about it...I was running the entire Covid response for the city…we rented a hotel...we all took like, you know, molly [E*stasy/MDMA] … 8 to 10 of us were in a room...like just being naked with friends…”</p>

<p>“We went to some underground, like, dance parties… and we were all rolling. We were all taking Molly [MDMA]. Everybody was high," he added.</p>
