<p>Thank you, Sir. I still remember how much you encouraged and supported me when&nbsp;I was a struggler.</p>

<p><strong>I first noticed you in a cameo in &nbsp;Kabir Khan’s &nbsp;'New York'. You were so convincing in your monologue as a suspected terrorist that I thought it was live footage?</strong></p>

<p>I remember that vividly. <em>Woh ek sunehra pal tha</em>(that was &nbsp;a golden moment). A lot has changed since that cameo. Now I am in a position to pick and choose. For the first ten years of my career, I took anything that came my way. &nbsp;Just being in front of the camera was enough for me.</p>

<p><strong>Did you go through a &nbsp;lot of humiliating rejections and snubs?</strong><br />
<br />
Sir, <em>dhakke toh sab outsiders ko khane padte hai</em>(every outsider gets pushed around in the beginning). If you are from the film industry you don’t only get your first chance on a platter you also get chances over and over again until you succeed.</p>

It would be nice to win. But I am not holding my breath for it. For me winning or losing is not important. Recognition of any kind is important for me. Recently I won the &nbsp;Filmfare Middle East award in Dubai. It meant a lot to me.</p>

<p><strong>But an Emmy is an Emmy?</strong></p>

<p><em>Bilkul, </em>Sir. If I win it, nothing like it. &nbsp;But I’d like to point out that I am no stranger to international recognition. I was in Cannes with &nbsp;Geetu Mohandas’ &nbsp;'Liar’s Dice', Anurag Kashyap’s &nbsp;'Raman &nbsp;Raghav' &nbsp;and &nbsp;Nandita Das’' Manto'. 'Manto' was the 9th film of mine that I was in Cannes with.</p>

<p><strong>You have also been compared with the Italian legend &nbsp;Marcello Mastroianni in the international press.</strong></p>

<p>Yes. In 2018 Hollywood Reporter called me the &nbsp;Indian Marcello Mastroianni. I &nbsp;couldn’t sleep for days. Marcello Mastroianni is one of my favourite actors. But then so is Dilip Kumar. I’d be just as happy to be compared with him.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Bollywood actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui may have scaled great heights in his career over the years, but the actor has revealed that he is still not accepted by some in his extended family and village.</p>

<p>Siddiqui opened up in an interview with a news channel recently about how he and his family have been victims of caste biases. The actor hails from Uttar Pradesh.</p>

<p>"In my own family, my grandmother was from a lower caste. Even today, they have not accepted us because of my grandmother."</p>

<p>"The fact that I am famous doesn't matter to them. It is deeply entrenched within them...it is in their veins. They consider it their pride. The Sheikh Siddiquis are the upper caste, and they will not have anything to do with those they consider beneath them. Even today it is there. It is very difficult," he further added.</p>

<p>The actor also condemned the recent Hathras gang rape incident calling it "unfortunate." The actor said that its important to speak up against such injustice and noted that slowly the artist community is voicing its opinion on such issues.</p>

<p>Alkazi, an avid art connoisseur and collector, founded Art Heritage Gallery in New Delhi. He had staged more than 50 plays during his distinguished career and won the BBC Broadcasting Award in 1950.</p>

<p>Some of the major plays directed by him include 'Tuglaq' (Girish Karnad), 'Ashadh Ka Ek Din' (Mohan Rakesh), Dharamvir Bharti`s 'Andha Yug', besides several Greek tragedies and Shakespeare`s works.</p>

<p>Alkazi was a recipient of the Padma Vibhushan (2010), Padma Bhushan (1991) and Padma Shri (1966) honours. He had also trained some of the best known Indian talents, including Naseeruddin Shah and Om Puri.</p>

After delivery when I came home, I’m told that there are girls who have stayed at my place when I wasn’t there. I used to get know about all his relationships from his brother. He used to share all his private details. I couldn’t tell Nawaz that Shamas told me all this. But we would keep fighting."<br />

Aaliya filed for divorce on May 6, and Nawaz’s lawyer has said that the actor responded on May 15.<br />

Starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the lead role with a supporting cast comprising of Ila Arun, Raghuvir Yadav, Swanand Kirkire and Anurag Kashyap- the film does boast of a great cast, but the comedy falls flat in more occasions than one, making it a very average film with just a very truly endearing moments.<br />

Siddiqui plays Ghoomketu, a village simpleton, who aspires to be a writer of Hindi films. Aided by his aunt (Ila Arun) he decides one day to go to Mumbai to try his luck in films-leaving behind his family and the new plus-sized bride (whom he loathes). His father (Yadav) and uncle (Kirkire) use their political connections to get the Mumbai police after him. The case lands in Inspector Badlani's lap (Anurag Kashyap) - a corrupt cop who has been given the ultimatum to find Ghoomketu in chaotic Mumbai within a month or take his suspension letter by the end of it.</p>

The film is 6 years too late and the patchy screenplay and editing shows. Most of its work was completed in 2014 and it did not find takers back then, only to be released now digitally. One can see that the makers have hurriedly put together the film for its digital release, with several scenes being disconnected from each other.<br />

With a non-linear narrative and Nawaz often breaking the fourth wall, the director perhaps attempted to have the complete attention of the viewer. But with an incoherent script, and jokes that fall flat- a lot of the scenes fail to rise above mediocrity and at its 1 hour 40 minutes, run time too seems a bit stretched<br />

The film though has a few sweet moments thanks to the actors, not so much for the writing. Arun, Yadav are fine performers and in their respective roles as quarreling siblings, deliver super performances. I kept waiting to see the two on-screen as their scenes were definitely the high point of the film. Another scene has the two actors along with Kirkire breaking into a folk song (they are all accomplished singers) which is a sheer delight to watch. So naturally performed and very endearing.</p>

<p>'Ghoomketu' was well-intended on paper. It tries to parody the film industry and its stereotypical ways but over the course of the film, it falls prey to the same stereotypes. There are some well-known actors like Ranveer Singh, Amitabh Bachchan, Sonakshi Sinha making cameo appearances - yet the film never really rises above its abysmal story.&nbsp;</p>

<p>If you must watch it-- do so for Ila Arun and Raghubir Yadav. Wish the writers made a parallel film on their characters instead.</p>

One of the most controversial, hardline leaders that Indian politics has ever seen in the post-independence era, opinions on the leader has always been extreme. There is a section which feels his autocratic, extremist beliefs were extremely harmful to the country and then the other group- whom Thackeray may have helped treat him like a messiah.</p>

<p>His apathy towards the Muslim community and especially for our neighbours has been a known fact. A philosophy that Shiv Sena ( a party that he started) and MNS still believe in. So casting Nawazuddin Siddiqui in a film based on his life naturally raised a lot of eyebrows. Directed by MNS leader Abhijit Panse, produced by Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut,the film 'Thackeray' glorifies the late leader (naturally so) and predictably whitewashes his controversial past.</p>

<p>Right from the beginning, the makers make no qualms in admitting their love and admiration for Thackeray, thereby making the narrative very biased. A biopic on a prominent leader should ideally have a balanced approach- show both sides of the person its made on. But not only does ‘Thackeray’ reiterate the leader’s radical ideas but also doesn’t bother to offer too much explanation on why he was such an extremist.</p>

<p>The film begins with Thackeray being produced in court on charges of demolishing the Babri Masjid and then goes back in flashback to tell the viewers about the man and his early beginnings as an extremist leader. In striking black and white, the director who is also the writer of the film, touches upon all the key events that made Thackeray a fascist leader. In fact, at one point Nawazuddin even compares himself to Hitler proudly while addressing a rally. Panse clearly is quite unabashed about the image that Thackeray had.</p>

<p>It is also a tad strange to watch a Nawazuddin, a Muslim, give justification on demolishing of a Masjid. I know an actor ideally is beyond religion and that's why perhaps Nawazuddin chose to work in a film like this but glorifying bigotry through a medium as powerful as cinema is something else. &nbsp;</p>

<p>Nawazuddin, despite a very obvious fake nose, delivers a convincing performance. He gets the mannerism of the late leader quite accurately and delivers some of the most scandalous lines with absolute ease. There is possibly no role that the actor cannot portray. From a beggar in Talash to a hardline leader in this film, Nawazuddin time and again manages to impress the viewers with his convincing and confident act.</p>

<p>Shot by the talented Sudeep Chatterjee, the great part of the film is narrated in flashback in black and white. Chatterjee’s frames are slick and add to the production value of the film. Colour is brought back to the frames with the change in the colour of a flower in one scene- indicating the changing times in the country post-Congress’ defeat in general elections and emergence of Janta Dal after emergency.</p>

<p>The major problem with the film remains in the way the story is narrated. They make no qualms in admitting that Thackeray resorted to violence to control things. The makers seem too nonchalant about his way of giving justice to people and his controversial past is taken too lightly- glorifying his obsession to give preferential treatment to Marathis, his way of snubbing political rivals and having control over the police force- all are almost forgiven in the film.</p>

<p>There's a lot left to interpretation in Ritesh Batra's new film 'Photograph'. Having traveled to various international film festival including Berlin Film Festival and Sundance, Batra's film featuring Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Sanya Malhotra is a love story of an uncanny pair.</p>

<p>They belong to different worlds. He lives in a shanty with four other men where the walls are made of tin plates and one lone rickety fan barely gives them any respite in humid weather. She lives in a spacious flat in an upscale apartment complex where she has her own room. He is a street photographer, capturing memories for tourist at the gateway to India. She is a CA topper. But when they cross paths they leave a lasting impression.</p>

<p>She can't recognise the person he makes her look in the photograph and thus is searching for him. He has to present a girl in front of the grandmother as his fiance and she seems to fit right in. And while at first the idea sounds ridiculous, she eventually agrees on the condition of getting more photographs clicked. He just needs to show his grandmother his fiance so that she stops asking him to get married. And as they pose like a couple in front of his dadi the two develop a unique bond</p>

<p>Shot extensively in Mumbai, the story is inherently Indian. The lead protagonists- Rafiq and Miloni- are governed by their respective families. That's perhaps the only commonality between the two. Having two formidable actors playing the leads has its advantage as the director lets both Siddiqui and Malhotra emote through their eyes and expressions. The conversations are few and lot is said through discreet glances and silences.</p>

<p>Batra, in fact, has got his casting on point. Be it the lead pair or the grandmother played by Farrukh Jafar or Miloni's maid played by Geetanjali Kulkarni- all look very convincing in their respective characters. Malhotra is particularly impressive as Miloni, the class topper who is not quite happy being the star in the family.&nbsp; She is reserved and awkward yet goes along with Rafiq's plan of posing as Noorie, his fiance and even cooks up a back story for herself as she meets Dadi for the first time.<br />

Unfortunately, Siddiqui's Rafiq is not as impressive even though he has a formidable back story on why he is willing to stay single all along. Perhaps a poorly written character sketch, Siddiqui's performance is half convincing, unlike Malhotra who shines in her part.</p>

<p>The film, though set in the present day, seems to be part of 90s Mumbai where the concept of selfies and Instagram did not exist. The director also uses old Hindi songs in the narrative, just like the way he had used 'Saajan' title track in his previous film 'The Lunchbox'. In Batra's cinema, Mumbai is not so rushed or busy or indifferent- here the local taxi wala is as concerned about Rafiq's grandmother as Miloni and here the economic and cultural difference between Rafiq and Miloni is never a point of concern.</p>

<p>In the end, the film leaves a lot of questions unanswered or open for interpretation. No explanation is given as why Miloni is so reserved and aloof about her surrounding, why is she always yearning to be somewhere else? The narrative lacks coherence at several moments which ultimately hampers the movie. Much is left to the audience to understand and assume on their own.</p>

'Motichoor Chaknachoor', in fact, has been courting controversy for a long time. Debamitra and the producers of the movie had been at loggerheads over several issues. The makers accused the director of selling off the movie rights to a film distributor for Rs 32 lakh in Bihar without any rights. Then, Debamitra had filed a case and also demanded a ban on the release of the official trailer over non-payment of dues because of ego fights on the edit table. She had even appealed to the makers to remove her from the directing credits.<br />

After the release of the film, the director took to Facebook and thanked her cast and crew and lamented that it was unfortunate that the viewers could not watch the film she had made.&nbsp;<br />

We all from the actors to the technicians to everyone involved in the film made this film with immense love and hardwork. But i guess not all journey are made successful.</em></p>

<p>Nawazuddin will be feted with the Golden Dragon Award at the fest, which will be held from October 24 to 27 at Cardiff Bay, Wales.&nbsp;</p>

<p>He will get the award on the final day of the fest.</p>

<p>On the same, the actor said, "I am very excited to be part of Cardiff International Film Festival and look forward to attending the festival, (sic).”</p>

<p>Nawazuddin started off in films with barely there roles in ‘Sarfarosh’ and ‘Shool’, to now playing lead actor in films like ‘Thackeray’, Anurag Kashyap's Gangs Of Wasseypur’ and many others. He was most recently seen in acclaimed web series, ‘Sacred Games’.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, Rahil Abbas, founder at the Cardiff International Film Festival (CIFF) said, "Nawaz is our special guest.”</p>

<p>The festival was created in 2016 by Abbas, along with Andrea Moignard and Cheryl Ingram.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The film is a psychological drama starring Nawazuddin in the lead as it will be screened in 'A Window on Asian Cinema' section. It is directed by Tannishtha Chatterjee.</p>

In the last few years I've had many films in Busan as an actor but each time something came up and I never could make it to the festival. So, this is a very special moment where I am doing the world premiere of my debut film in a festival which I have always wanted to go. I love Korean cinema, I love Korean food and I am really looking forward to premiering the film in Busan."</p>
