Ace Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood is frustrated with a ‘random side strain’ that ruled him out of the remainder of the India Test series. Hazlewood suffered a strain on his right side during the just-concluded Gabba Test, ruling him out of the game and the series. “Just frustrating really. Hazlewood played the BGT opener at the Optus Stadium in Perth but missed the following Pink-Ball Test in Adelaide due to an injury. Though he recovered in time for the third Test at the Gabba, Hazlewood pulled up ahead of the fourth-day play, injuring his right calf. 
“I’ve had a history of sides and calves; they’re probably the two things that have kept me out for the majority over the last four years. But yeah, I sort of just keep adding another layer to the defence, hopefully, get back into the gym, I’ve ticked a lot of boxes over the last 12 months,” the seamer continued.
<h2>Josh eyes return in Sri Lanka Tests</h2>
Considering Hazlewood will not return until 100% fit, the seamer expressed his desire to make a comeback for the away Sri Lanka Tests early next year. 
Though Australia still leads India on the chart for teams with better chances of directly sealing the WTC Final 2025 qualification, they must win at least two of the four remaining Tests to ensure a smooth ride into the finals. 
“That’s probably the goal; just take it as it comes over the next few weeks. No rush to get anything in a hurry, it’s just getting everything right. Probably take a few extra days here and there. Ticking things off and getting everything right,” Hazlewood noted.
Meanwhile, the five-match series between Australia and India is tied at 1-1, with two games remaining. 
Should the hosts win the remaining two matches, they will directly qualify for the final, but if India wins and completes the three-peat, they will reach their third straight WTC Final.

Lula "will return to the capital on Thursday after having received medical authorisation to take plane trips," the government said in an online statement on X.
The 79-year-old president had been convalescing in Sao Paulo, where he had his surgery last week to stop intracranial bleeding that was putting pressure on his brain.
He was seen leaving the Hospital Sirio-Libanes in Sao Paulo wearing a brimmed hat and giving a thumbs-up, but making no comment to the media.
A final medical check-up on Thursday "was extremely satisfactory -- he is well," Lula's doctor, Roberto Kalil, told journalists.
"Quite simply, the hematoma no longer exists," he said.
The doctor added that Lula had been instructed to avoid physical exercise but "obviously he will be able to do normal activities -- his cognition is perfect; he can work."
Another of Lula's doctors, Ana Helena Germoglio, said that Lula was going directly from the hospital to Brasilia, where he would spend Christmas.

Lula had his emergency surgery, which involved drilling through his skull, on December 10, after coming down with a headache a day earlier that a scan determined was bleeding in intracranial membranes.
The haemorrhage was linked to a bad fall he suffered on October 19, when he slipped in the bathroom in his presidential residence in Brasilia.
After a follow-up procedure in the hospital on December 12 to prevent blood flow to the area, Lula posted an online video showing him walking through a corridor with Kalil.
On Sunday, Lula was discharged to continue his convalescence in his private Sao Paulo home, pending Thursday's final approval to travel.

Even with the all-clear, Lula's health has been the subject of concern over the years.
He had successful treatment in 2011 for throat cancer, and a hip replacement operation last year.

The Brazilian currency, the real, has weakened considerably this year, losing more than a quarter of its value. 
Since late November it has been sharply losing ground against the US dollar, which on Thursday was fetching around 6.15 reais.

Brazil's Lula returns to regular duties after brain surgery

Eleven people died in a fire at a cafe in Hanoi and police have arrested a man suspected of starting the blaze, Vietnam's Ministry of Public Security said on Thursday (December 19).
Police said in a statement that the man had confessed to using gasoline to light a fire on the ground floor of the three-storey cafe on Wednesday (December 18) after an argument with staff.
Footage from the online newspaper VnExpress showed firemen working to put out the fire and the bodies of victims being removed.
“When I was opening my gate, I noticed a column of smoke from afar. I was so frightened that I had to urge my grandchild to go downstairs," one witness told VnExpress.
"The flame was so fierce. We saw the fire engulfing, but there was nothing else we could do.”
The state-run Tien Phong newspaper reported the suspect is aged in his early 50s. The police said the fire was first reported to them just after 11 pm (1600 GMT) on Wednesday.
Seven people were rescued from the fire, with two of them hospitalised, the police statement said.

11 dead in fire at cafe in Vietnam's Hanoi, cops arrest suspect

Acting on the complaint lodged by the BJP, the Delhi Police on Thursday registered an FIR against Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, in connection with a scuffle at Parliament that caused injuries to two MPs who had to be hospitalised.
As per reports, an FIR under section 117 (voluntary causing grievous hurt), 125 (act of endangering life or personal safety of others), 131 (use of criminal force), 351 (criminal intimidation) and 3(5) (common intention) of the BNS was registered at Parliament Street Police station.
Earlier, the BJP had filed an attempt to murder complaint against the leader of the opposition, Rahul Gandhi, on Thursday (Dec 19) after its two MPs were injured in a scuffle outside the parliament building. Union Minister Anurag Thakur led a team of BJP MPs and complained to the Delhi Police. 
Speaking outside the police station, Thakur said, “We have filed a complaint under Sections 109, 115, 117, 125, 131, and 351 of the BNS. Section 109 is an attempt to murder, Section 117 is voluntary causing grievous hurt". 
BJP alleged that Rahul Gandhi pushed 69-year-old BJP MP Pratap Chandra Sarangi during a protest by NDA MPs outside Makar Dwar. The party claimed Sarangi, and another BJP MP Mukesh Rajput, were injured. Both MPs were admitted to the ICU at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital with head injuries.
Delhi Police have only removed section 109 (attempt to murder) of BNS. All other sections are the same as given in the complaint.
<h2>Congress' counter complaint</h2>
Congress MPs filed a countercomplaint against BJP, alleging a conspiracy behind the incident. 
Congress MP Pramod Tiwari said, “The way a Dalit leader was abused the day before yesterday and today he was pushed—this is all a conspiracy."

Congress also shared a video of the incident, claiming BJP MPs with sticks in hand were stopping opposition MPs from entering the Parliament. 
Kharge wrote a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla saying, "I lost my balance and was forced to sit down on the ground in front of Makar Dwar. This inflicted injury on my knees which have already undergone surgery."

New Delhi Acting on the complaint lodged by the BJP, the Delhi Police on Thursday registered an FIR against Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, in connection with a scuffle at Parliament that caused injuries to two MPs who had to be hospitalised. As per reports, an FIR under section 117 (voluntary causing grievous hurt), 125 (act of endangering life or personal safety of others), 131 (use of criminal force), 351 (criminal intimidation) and 3(5) (common intention) of the BNS was registered at Parliament Street Police station. Earlier, the BJP had filed an attempt to murder complaint against the leader of the opposition, Rahul Gandhi, on Thursday (Dec 19) after its two MPs were injured in a scuffle outside the parliament building. Union Minister Anurag Thakur led a team of BJP MPs and complained to the Delhi Police. Speaking outside the police station, Thakur said, “We have filed a complaint under Sections 109, 115, 117, 125, 131, and 351 of the BNS. Section 109 is an attempt to murder, Section 117 is voluntary causing grievous hurt". BJP alleged that Rahul Gandhi pushed 69-year-old BJP MP Pratap Chandra Sarangi during a protest by NDA MPs outside Makar Dwar. The party claimed Sarangi, and another BJP MP Mukesh Rajput, were injured. Both MPs were admitted to the ICU at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital with head injuries. Delhi Police have only removed section 109 (attempt to murder) of BNS. All other sections are the same as given in the complaint. Congress' counter complaint Congress MPs filed a countercomplaint against BJP, alleging a conspiracy behind the incident. Congress MP Pramod Tiwari said, “The way a Dalit leader was abused the day before yesterday and today he was pushed—this is all a conspiracy." The report said that during the 13th defence plan period (from 2017 to 2022), a total of 34 accidents (involving military aircraft) occurred, which included the 2021 Mi-17 V5 helicopter that was carrying CDS Rawat.

Before becoming the CDS, General Rawat was the 27th chief of the Indian Army. He was 63 at the time of his death.

An Indian man was arrested in Florida for allegedly attempting to engage in sexual activities with a minor, a statement from the US Attorney's Office said on Thursday (Dec 19). The 24-year-old man named Kirtan Patel is originally from the Indian state of Gujarat and was nabbed in July this year. 
Patel is facing a minimum of 10 years in prison, and that may get extended to life imprisonment. The exact date of the sentence has not been decided yet. 
He was among 33 men of varied nationalities who were caught during a sting operation by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) with the help of the Ocala Police Department, Chiefland Police Department, and the Department of Homeland Security.
Patel was arrested after he approached a girl who he thought to be a 13-year-old. It was, in reality, an undercover officer posing to be the minor and "seeking to engage in sexual activity”.

As per the indictment, between May 22 and 24, Patel approached an individual thinking it was a minor girl to engage in sexual activity. On July 18, he travelled to a location in Marion County to do the act with the child when he was nabbed. It was revealed that, including Patel, 33 men had “actually travelled to have sex with minors” and were arrested. 
“Many of these (arrested) men arranged to meet with what they thought was a child between the ages of 13-15 years old. Some of them even travelled from outside of Florida to arrange meeting places. Deputies and detectives seized guns, drugs, cash, and vehicles from these offenders, and more arrests are expected as detectives follow up with various cases," the MCSO said in a statement.

Mangione, aged 26, waived his preliminary hearing on charges in Pennsylvania in exchange for receiving a 20-page investigative report from Altoona police. Blair County Judge David Consiglio then ordered that Mangione be handed over to New York authorities. As per local media reports, there were at least a dozen uniformed NYPD officers present in the courtroom, ready to take Mangione to New York.

Earlier this week, US prosecutors formally charged Mangione with the murder of Brian Thompson. The charges include one count of first-degree murder, two counts of second-degree murder, one of which is classified as an act of terrorism, and several weapons-related offences related to the alleged use of a 3D-printed firearm.
“This was not an ordinary killing,” Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg said, explaining the terrorism charge. “In its most basic terms, this was a killing intended to evoke terror, and we’ve seen that reaction.”
If convicted, Mangione could face life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.

Though with Sri Lanka co-hosting the next T20 World Cup, it becomes easier to choose that country as the venue for all Pakistan matches, it remains to be seen which neutral venue India and ICC pick for Pakistan regarding the 2025 Women’s WC.

He said although calling time on a career is a personal choice and that he has no say in that, Ravichandran noted that constant humiliation regarding Ashwin not being the number one choice spinner regardless of the conditions might have pushed him to take this sudden decision, something his father also got to know about at the last minute.

“I too came to know last minute, actually. What was going on in his mind I don’t know. He just announced. I too accepted it with full pleasure. I did not have any feelings at all for that. But the way he gave his retirement, one part I was very happy, another part not happy because he should have continued,” Ashwin’s father said during the chat with the news outlet.
“(Retiring) is his (Ashwin’s) wish and desire, I cannot interfere in that, but the way in which he gave that, there could be many reasons. Only Ashwin knows, maybe humiliation," Ravichandran continued.

Thursday's announcement came after Everton said in September the Friedkin Group had agreed to buy Farhad Moshiri's majority stake in the struggling side subject to regulatory approval -- which has now been granted by the Premier League, Women's Professional Leagues Limited, the Football Association and the Financial Conduct Authority.
The BBC reported the Friedkin Group's deal to buy Everton was worth in excess of £400 million ($506 million).
The Texas-based group is led by chairman Dan Friedkin and also owns Italian Serie A club Roma. Friedkin has a net worth of £6.16 billion, according to Forbes.
Everton have twice been sanctioned under the Premier League's profitability and sustainability rules (PSR) in the last 13 months, and had eight points in total deducted last season.
American investment firm 777 Partners were unable to complete a deal earlier this year.
John Textor, who has a 45 percent share in Crystal Palace, had appeared to be in the frame before Everton confirmed they were entering into an agreement with the Friedkin Group.
Everton are putting the finishing touches to a new stadium and are preparing to leave Goodison Park, which has been the club's home since 1892.
They are currently 16th in the Premier League table, just three points above the relegation zone.
Everton have remained in the English top flight for the last 70 years but have survived several battles to avoid relegation in recent seasons.
The Liverpool-based club posted losses of just under £400 million ($534 million) for the four years between 2019 and 2023.
British-Iranian businessman Moshiri first bought a 49.9 percent stake in Everton in 2016, before increasing his holding to 94.1 percent in 2022.
<h2>'Great institution'</h2>
Despite their recent struggles, Everton are one of England's most historic clubs. Only Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City have won more top-flight titles than their total of nine.
Friedkin, in an open letter, said: "I take immense pride in welcoming one of England's most historic football clubs to our global family, the Friedkin Group. Everton represents a proud legacy, and we are honoured to become custodians of this great institution."
Incoming executive chairman Marc Watts said: "Providing immediate financial stability to the club has been a key priority, and we are delighted to have achieved this.
Everton were last crowned champions of England in the 1986/87 season and have not won a major trophy since 1995.
But Watts added: "While restoring Everton to its rightful place in the Premier League table will take time, today is the first step in that journey."
Moshiri welcomed the deal by saying: "I truly believe that the transaction with The Friedkin Group is the best outcome for the club and its future success."

Fugitive businessman Vijay Mallya claimed on Wednesday (Dec 18) that more than double the amount that Kingfisher was owing in the case involving its airlines has been recovered by the banks. 
Mallya claimed that he was entitled to relief a day after India's Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman informed the Parliament that Rs 141.31 billion (Rs 14131.6 crore) was recovered from Mallya by the banks. 
The recovery was made in the Kingfisher Airlines debt, which was estimated to be Rs 62.03 billion by a tribunal.
Taking to X, Mallya said, "The Debt Recovery Tribunal adjudged the KFA (Kingfisher Airlines) debt at Rs 6203 crores, including Rs 1200 crores of interest. The FM announced in Parliament that through the ED, Banks have recovered Rs 14,131.60 crores from me against the judgement debt of Rs 6203 crores, and I am still an economic offender. Unless the ED and Banks can legally justify how they have taken more than two times the debt, I am entitled to the relief which I will pursue."
"Whatever I have stated about my liabilities as guarantor of KFA loans is legally verifiable. Yet more than Rs 8000 crores have been recovered from me over and above the judgment debt. Will anyone, including those who freely abuse me, stand up and question this blatant injustice? To be seen to support a much maligned me requires guts. Sadly no guts for justice particularly for me," he added.

The Chairman is supposed to run the House, not provide a running commentary. He can't demand respect; he must command respect. This is a one-sided democracy."
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, meanwhile, highlighted inequalities in the time allotted for opposition and ruling party leaders to speak.

According to the research, this re-melting event occurred due to the Earth’s and Moon’s gravitational pull tugging at each other, called a tidal force, which caused it to stretch and squish and warm the Moon drastically due to friction.
The study also explains the existence of zircon crystals, a mineral found on lunar rocks during the Apollo mission. The age of this mineral can be determined by observing the ratio of uranium to lead.

This would imply that our planet has been with its natural satellite for almost its entire lifespan as it is estimated to have formed 4.54 billion years ago.

The 19-year-old recently scored a hundred against India for Prime Minister’s XI, later hitting an impressive 88 for New South Wales in the Sheffield Shield before creating history with his quick-fire 56 for Sydney Thunder on his BBL debut.
"I'm understanding the scenarios of the game and when to take on the game. Trying to mature as a batsman. Obviously, I'm going to make some silly mistakes, but I think understanding when to take the game on [is an area I've improved in],” Konstas said.
