A mother, owning a &nbsp;rare heart-shaped uterus, gave birth to a 'one-in-500-million' pair of twins, defying all odds.&nbsp;

Karen Troy, aged 25, spoke about her pregnancy as she expressed her shock when she discovered about her pregnancy with twins and had a 'heart-shaped' bicornuate uterus in March 2021.

A women's chance of getting pregnant with twins is approximately one in 500 million with a heart-shaped womb.&nbsp;

Till 34 weeks, the mother's pregnancy went smoothly, however, later she developed pre-eclampsia and was rushed to the hospital to get a c-section when her blood pressure increased.

The birth of twins of the mother, Ryan and Raelynn, took place on September 5 2021. The twins weighed 5lbs 10oz and 5lbs 1oz, and were kept at Umass memorial medical centre in &nbsp;Massachusetts for 27 days, before the twins were sent home.&nbsp;

Speaking about her pregnancy, Karen said, "I was more worried about the fact I was having two babies than having a heart-shaped uterus. I just wanted to make sure they were OK. I didn't believe I had a heart-shaped uterus at first so I went back for another scan to make sure it was true."

"I was monitored closely because it was a high-risk pregnancy. It was really emotional seeing them for the first time because they were tiny. I was so happy but scared to have two tiny babies. We were so excited when we got them home," she added.&nbsp;

Karen along with her husband, Shaunan, &nbsp;were very happy when they heard the pregnancy news in January 2021.

However, the couple were worried when they found out about the heart-shaped uterus.&nbsp;

Karen said, "It's very rare to have a heart-shaped uterus and fall pregnant with twins. I remember being confused at the scan. I just kept asking: 'Are they OK?'"

The mother decided to go for another scan to confirm reports of the first sonography. "They said my pregnancy was very high risk because I had a heart-shaped uterus and was expecting twins," she stated.

The doctors closely monitored Karen throughout her pregnancy.&nbsp;

Throughout her pregnancy, she was closely monitored. Her condition of pre-eclampsia was detected by doctors which caused high blood pressure and an emergency c-section was performed after 34 weeks.&nbsp;

"The first 24 hours were really hard for me. I had to stay in a machine to stop any seizures from the pre-eclampsia. The twins had to stay in the NICU to learn to feed and stabilise their breathing. Ryan's heart rate kept going up and down," &nbsp;Karen said.

The partially decomposed body of the woman was recovered on Tuesday night and sent for post-mortem, the cops said. The boy was also arrested.&nbsp;On Saturday, the minor fatally shot his mother and locked the body inside a room in the house for two days. He also allegedly threatened his nine-year-old sister, who was also at home at the time of the incident, to not reveal anything to anyone. &nbsp;&nbsp;

To hide the smell of the decomposed body, boy used a room freshener. When the smell got uncontrollable, he informed his father, who is an Army personnel, about the incident, the police said. &nbsp;&nbsp;

"The incident took place in Yamunapuram Colony under PGI police station area. The deceased used to live with her two children at the house. Her husband, who is a JCO (Junior Commissioned Officer), is currently posted in West Bengal," Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Qasim Abidi said. &nbsp;

According to the Facebook post, the bombing from the Russian forces started when the mother was breastfeeding her new-born child while the child’s father was also at home.

The sudden bombing took them by surprise but the mother was able to shield the child and both of them survived the attack.<o:p></o:p>

Fighting continued in Ukraine as the Russian forces are still trying to make their way into Kyiv. Two children were killed in the town of Rubizhne after a residential building collapsed from the firing.<o:p></o:p>

The rubble from the building caused serious damage to the people staying around the building and while another woman was killed in the shelling, her daughter survived and was in a stable condition.

In 2020, the US witnessed 861 maternal deaths, which the World Health Organisation defines as a death while pregnant or within 42 days of the end of a pregnancy, from any cause related to or aggravated by pregnancy or its management.

In 2019, the number of deaths per 100,000 live US births was 20.1, while in 2018 it was 17.4.

But the numbers rise even higher when focused solely on non-white mothers. Pregnancy-related deaths for black mothers jumped from 44 per 100,000 births in 2019 to 55 the next year.

For Hispanic mothers, the number climbed from 13 to 18 during the same period.

While maternal mortality dropped across the world in the 20th century with the help of vast improvements in medical care, the United States saw a record plunge since 2000, unlike most other countries.

In fact, the last time the US rate was officially this high was in 1968, though a new reporting methodology was introduced in 2018, reports AFP.

Possible reasons for such disparities and the overall jump in deaths were not mentioned in Wednesday’s report, though researchers believe that the coronavirus may have played some role.

"We observed increases across a broad number of categories, and COVID-19 likely contributed,"&nbsp;Donna Hoyert, author of the report, told AFP about the results.&nbsp;

The incident took place in southern California where a five-year-old boy was playing outside his home in Calabasas. While the boy was enjoying his time, a 65-pound mountain lion appeared out of nowhere and targeted the small kid.

It dragged the boy for nearly 45 yards from across the front lawn as the boy started screaming for help. As soon as the mother heard the screams, she rushed outside of the house and started punching the lion with her bare hands.

As soon as the mother saved her son from the mountain lion, the couple immediately drove the boy to the hospital and notified the law enforcement.

The officers noticed that the mountain lion was crouching behind the bushes with its "ears back and hissing" at the officers.

A 2-year-old girl survived unharmed after her mother threw her to safety as they escaped a burning high-rise building in the South African city of Durban during protests.

A Bangladeshi mother has stunned doctors by giving birth to healthy twins 26 days after a first child was born prematurely.

Arifa Sultana, 20, gave birth to a baby boy last month through normal delivery, but doctors missed the presence of a second uterus.

"She didn't realise she was still pregnant with the twins. Her waters broke again 26 days after the first baby was born and she rushed to us," Sheila Poddar, a gynaecologist who treated the woman, told AFP.

Podder carried out an emergency caesarean section to deliver the twins -- one boy and one girl -- last Friday.

The young woman from Jessore district in southwest Bangladesh was allowed to go home with her three healthy babies on Tuesday. Podder said there were no complications.

"I haven't seen any case like this in my 30-year plus medical career," Dilip Roy, chief government doctor in Jessore, told AFP.

Roy questioned the actions of Khulna Medical College Hospital doctors for not detecting the second pregnancy.

Hailing from a poor family, Sultana said she was happy with the three children but felt concerned how she would bring them up.

She told AFP her husband earns barely 6,000 taka ($70) a month as a labourer. "I don't know how we will manage such a huge responsibility with this little amount."

Her husband Sumon Biswas put on a brave face. "It was a miracle from Allah that all of my children are healthy. I will try my best to keep them happy," he said.

Six-time Grand Slam winner Sania Mirza is adjusting to her new responsibilities of being a mother alongside her long-term love for the sport - Tennis.&nbsp;

The former World No. 1 has been out of action since October 2017,&nbsp;due to pregnancy, and gave birth to her first child- Izhaan - with Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik.

The 32-year old, however, is planning an early return to the court as she feels that being a mother doesn't mean one should give up on their dreams.

"There are many tennis playing mothers who have done really well in the past as well, whether it was Kim Clijsters or Serena Williams today. They are definitely inspirational in many ways but I always believe that we being pregnant like a lot of people think is not the end of your world, its the beginning of your world, of your life, you should not give up on your own dreams just because you have a child, that is one of my inspirations to get back," Sania said in an exclusive interview with WION.

"Whatever I wish to do in my life whether it is playing tennis or anything else that I love, I don't think having a child should hold me back," she added.

When asked if there is any specific tournament with which she would like to make her return, Sania said she has no 'definite timeline' and first wants to get back to peak fitness.

"Roughly I would like to set end of the year or something, because honestly being pregnant, the whole thing it takes a lot of you, it takes a lot out of your body, to get back to peak fitness I will need some time, right now I am focusing on losing all the pregnancy weight, I start training with my trainer next month, we will see how may body reacts as well, I have no idea how its going to react. I am looking forward to a whole new journey, a new experience with my son and hopefully by the end of the year, if things go well I should be back."

Throughout her career, Mirza has established herself as the most successful and highest-paid female Indian tennis player ever.&nbsp;

From 2003 until her retirement from singles in 2013, Sania was ranked &nbsp;India's No. 1 player in both the categories by the WTA.

On being asked if it was a tough decision for her to become a parent at the peak of her career, Sania said she felt 'it was the right time'.&nbsp;

"I always wanted to be a parent and a mother. With my knee injury Shoaib and I spoke about it, it was either going to be this year or the next year that we were going to have a baby so we just thought the timing was right and everything turned out well, when we got pregnant we were elated and very happy."

Soniya Choudhary suffered an acid attack in 2004. Before sharing with us her bond of love with her daughter, she explains the horrific incident that changed her life forever.

Soniya carries a beautiful smile on her face, with the same smile she went on to explain her plight, what all she went it through after having survived the attack.&nbsp;

Soniya used to work at a salon and stayed outdoors for most of the day. Her parents insisted on buying a cellphone to stay connected. A man from her neighbourhood got her a cellphone. Soniya paid for the cell phone but later found out that the device was stolen from a cop. She gave the cop the details of the man; the man was arrested but was soon released.

Soniya was forced to apologise by the man but she did not give in. He also tried to influence others to make her apologise. The man started threatening her, that is when Soniya's parents decided that her father will be dropping and picking her up from work. It was the day when Soniya&nbsp;decided to return home on her own, as she was just 15 steps from home, she was attacked by two men on a bike. They threw acid on her and fled.

"At first it felt like someone has thrown lukewarm water on me. But after few seconds, my skin started melting like plastic. It felt like several ants are crawling and scratching my skin. I started shouting but all in vain. As there were many people around me but no one helped. Thankfully my house was nearby", Soniya remembers the horrendous incidence.

Soniya's condition was critical. She was moved to Safdarjung Hospital overnight. She regained consciousness after spending over 45 days in ICU, doctors had given up as she weighed only 28 kgs and had 55% burns. She had very minimal chances of survival.&nbsp;

"I was treated roughly at the hospital. I used to bleed when they changed my dressing. They used to beat me if I protested. Everyone thought I would eventually die. I thought if I had to die then I would rather die at home", expresses Soniya in grief.

"All this happened because I did not apologise for something I didn’t do? His ego was more valuable than anyone’s life?" she questions.&nbsp;

Soniya does not call herself a survivour, she describes herself as a fighter. She now runs a salon but her dream project is 'Astitva', a salon that aims to bring victims and surviours of attacks and atrocities like acid attacks, domestic violence, rape.

At first, Soniya started the salon at her home before her sister gave birth to a baby girl. "I really wanted to set an example and I adopted her when she was just 15 days old. She added another purpose to my life. I became a single mother", shares Soniya.

"When Vanshika was a toddler I was afraid. I didn’t know how she will react to my situation. I thought I should get a surgery done. But nothing like that happened. In fact, she feels very proud that I am her mother. When her school teacher inquires about me, my daughter feels very proud," Soniya notes.

Soniya leaves a strong message for the society. She believes that every parent should educate their girls and make them strong enough to deal with any kind of a situation. She recounts incidents when she was looked down upon and was called worthless by her own relatives.

"The attack didn't make any difference to me. I empowered myself by unveiling the face. Now, nobody has the courage to say that I'm worthless because I have achieved something in life," Soniya affirms.&nbsp;

A 16-day-old boy was today snatched by a monkey from his home in Odisha's Cuttack district, prompting authorities to launch a massive search operation.

&ldquo;If you are overpowered, you should surrender initially and later follow up the case. That way we can be safe, save life and prevent being killed,&rdquo; Sangilana stated.

The comments sparked a massive row, with activists and journalists present at the event marking their protest.&nbsp;

A 23-year-old paramedical student was brutally gang-raped by five men and a juvenile on a moving bus in Delhi on December 16, 2012. The incident shocked the nation, with many stepping out to protest across the country seeking safety for women and stricter punishment for rapists.

All the six accused were later held and were awarded death sentence by the court. One of the accused, Ram Singh, committed suicide in jail while the juvenile was released after completing mandatory probation period in a remand home.

Five years since the incident, remaining accused persons are yet to hanged.&nbsp;

A woman in Utter Pradesh was allegedly abducted along with her family and gang-raped by relatives of another woman who ran away with her son, police informed on Saturday.&nbsp;

A case of gang-rape was reported to the police on Friday at Nojal village in Shamli district, superintendent of police Ajay Pal Sharma told reporters in Muzaffarnagar.

According to Sharma, the woman&#39;s son, a resident of Bhopura village, allegedly fell in love with a woman from Muzaffarnagar, who was studying in Ghaziabad.&nbsp;

The two eloped on November 20.&nbsp;

As revenge, her family members abducted the man&rsquo;s brother, mother who is in her 40s, father and his brother-in-law on December 19 and locked them in a house in Shamli district, media reports said.

They were then threatened and assaulted by the accused who also gang-raped the mother.&nbsp;

They were rescued on December 25 after the police raided the house.&nbsp;

The girl&rsquo;s father, his two brothers, one of who is a former village gram pradhan, and his son were booked by police, he said.

The former gram pradhan was arrested while the other accused are being searched for, the official said.

MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said the &quot;cultural and religious sensibilities of family&nbsp;members were disregarded&quot;.&nbsp;

&quot;Under the pretext of security precautions, the cultural and religious sensibilities of family members were disregarded. This included the removal of mangal sutra, bangles and bindi, as well as a change in attire that was not warranted by security,&quot; Kumar said.&nbsp;

&quot;For some inexplicable reason, despite her repeated requests, the shoes of the wife of Jadhav were not returned to her after the meeting. We would caution against any mischievous intent in this regard,&quot; he added.&nbsp;

Kumar said the Pakistani press, despite prior agreement that the media would not be allowed close access, was allowed on multiple occasions to approach the family members closely, harass and hector them and hurl false and motivated accusations about Jadhav.&nbsp;

The Pakistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) clarified that the screen was placed due to security reasons and that Jadhav already knew this would be the setting.&nbsp;

It buttressed its stance by adding that Islamabad considered Jadhav as &quot;the face of Indian terrorism, especially in Pakistan.&quot;&nbsp;

In addition to this, the MoFA released another &quot;confessional&quot; video of Jadhav`s, in which the convicted alleged spy was seen confessing that he did cross from Iran to Pakistan two years back.&nbsp;

Jadhav is a former Indian naval officer.&nbsp;

Pakistan says he is a spy. He was arrested two years ago&nbsp;from Pakistan&#39;s restive Balochistan province.&nbsp;

On April 10, 2017, Jadhav was sentenced to death by a Field General Court Martial in Pakistan.&nbsp;

London, United Kingdom: Andrea Leadsom, one of two candidates to be the next British prime minister, has caused an uproar by suggesting that being a mother means she has a greater stake in the country's future than her childless rival Theresa May. A little-known junior energy minister until she emerged as one of the most ardent voices in the campaign to leave the European Union, Leadsom is the outsider in the contest to succeed David Cameron as Conservative leader and prime minister. Cameron, who had campaigned for Britain to stay in the bloc, announced he would quit after the June 23 referendum delivered a vote for Brexit. May, the interior minister who also advocated remaining in the EU, is the favourite to replace him. "I am sure she will be really sad she doesn't have children so I don't want this to be 'Andrea has children, Theresa hasn't' because I think that would be really horrible," Leadsom told the Times newspaper, which has declared its support for May. "But genuinely I feel being a mum means you have a very real stake in the future of our country, a tangible stake. She possibly has nieces, nephews, lots of people. But I have children who are going to have children who will directly be a part of what happens next." Leadsom denounced the Times article on Twitter as "gutter journalism" and on Saturday made a televised statement outside her home to say she had made clear that the issue of her motherhood should not be a feature of the campaign. "I want to be crystal clear that everyone has an equal stake in our society and in the future of our country," she said. The Times stood by its story and released an audio recording of Leadsom making the comments, which was played on Saturday morning news bulletins on all the main radio and TV stations. May made no comment on Leadsom's interview, merely tweeting: "Yesterday, I launched my clean campaign pledge and invite @AndreaLeadsom to join me in signing it." That was a reference to five commitments May made on Friday, including to ensure that campaigning "stays within the acceptable limits of political debate". "VILE" May and Leadsom were selected by Conservative lawmakers from an original field of five candidates. May was backed by 199 lawmakers, while Leadsom received support from 84. The contest now moves to the party's 150,000 grassroots members, who will elect the winner by Sept. 9. The comments made in the Times by Leadsom, a devout Christian who wants to swiftly launch the legal process of exiting the EU and end freedom of movement rights if elected, drew sharp criticism from several Conservative lawmakers. "I am childless. I have nieces and nephews. I believe I - like everyone else - have a very real stake in our country," tweeted Ruth Davidson, leader of the party's Scottish arm, who had previously declared her support for May in the contest.
