<p>McDonald's has reached a deal to sell its Russia business to Russian businessman Alexander Govor, who is a licensee of the renowned multinational&nbsp;American fast-food chain. He runs the franchise operation through his firm GiD LLC.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Govor will rebrand the restaurant under a new name as discussions are already happening over the new name. Telegraph reported that Russia could rename McDonald's "ZBurger" or "Rusburger". On social media, there were some other suggestions as well, such as, "Rosburger", "RusDonald's", "Nashmak", "Mashkinfarsh", etc.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Telegraph quoted the Russian Ministry of Trade as writing after an online discussion: "This was a great brainstorm! Thanks for taking part. We will give the most creative ones to the Russian owner."&nbsp;</p>

<p>The media report also added that social media users are also predicting McDonald’s classic menu items. As some suggested that the items might get replaced by more traditional Russian options such as borscht.&nbsp;</p>

<p>McDonald's said that Govor will retain employees for at least two years on equivalent terms and will pay employee salaries in 45 regions of Russia until the closure of the sale.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Notably, Govor has been a McDonald's licensee since 2015 and had helped the chain expand into remote Siberia, where he operates 25 restaurants.&nbsp;</p>

<p>On Monday, McDonald's said that it has decided to sell the entire Russian portfolio of 850 restaurants in the aftermath of the Ukraine invasion on the orders of Russian President Vladimir Putin.&nbsp;</p>

ZBurger, Rusburger or Nashmak? Russians look for new name for McDonald's

<p>Mcdonald's is a fast-food major across the world. There are millions of fans of its burgers worldover. The fast-food giant does have its own share of critics due to negative effects of fast food on health. But this man would certainly not be one of McD opponents.</p>

<p>Donald&nbsp;Gorske, an American man, is celebrating 50 years of his unique affair with the brand. The Wisconsin resident has eaten a whopping 32,340 Big Macs as of last August, says Guinness Book of World Records (GWR).</p>

<p>The huge tally means that Gorske has been eating at least one Big Mac a day.</p>

<p>Gorske marked the 50-year anniversary by eating a Big Mac at the local McDonald's in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.</p>

<p>The outlet even commemorated Don's 50-year association with the brand by putting up a board outside the outlet.</p>

<p>“Congrats Don on 50 years of Macs.” read the board. The outlet even removed the letter D-O-N from McDonald's sign for Don's name to feature in it.</p>

<p>American fast-food giant&nbsp;McDonald's&nbsp;will exit the Russian market and sell its business in the increasingly isolated country, the company said Monday.</p>

<p>Many Western businesses have pulled out of Russia since its invasion of Ukraine in February.</p>

<p>And earlier on Monday, French automaker Renault announced it had handed over its Russian assets to the government in Moscow, marking the first major nationalisation of the economic disentanglement.</p>

<p>“I was baffled by it, we have just moved here and it’s something you can’t ignore as it only gets worse and increases the fee,” he added.</p>

<p>The letter he received said that his fine can be reduced to £60 if he pays within 14 days.</p>

<p>According to Wales Online, the parking zone of the aforementioned Starbucks branch is handled by National Parking Enforcement Ltd (NPE).</p>

<p>A video shot by Indian filmmaker Vinod Kapri has gone viral online and has garnered millions of views. It is not because of glitzy tricks that nowadays are commonly used to make a video viral. The video is being loved&nbsp;due to the sheer indomitable spirit of a young man who is the sole star shining bright in this clip.</p>

<p>In this video, he is running and running, crossing more distance than most of us can cross in a single sprint. The 19-year-old is Pradeep Mehra who works at a McDonald's in Noida Sector 16 near Indian capital New Delhi.</p>

<p>When Kapri saw this boy running in the dead of the night with a bag on his back, he thought the boy was in trouble and offered to give him lift in a car he was driving.&nbsp;</p>

<p>To take a stance against the Russian "military operation" in Ukraine, global fast-food giant McDonald's Corp on Tuesday (March 8) announced that it would temporarily close all 847 of its restaurants in Russia.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In the aftermath of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, western countries have been imposing sanctions on Russia to cripple the economy. To increase the pressure, other global brands have also pursued the same as they have paused operations in the country.&nbsp;</p>

<p>While announcing the decision, McDonald's said it would continue to pay salaries to its 62,000 employees in Russia. The company's CEO Chris Kempczinski stated that "our values mean we cannot ignore the needless human suffering unfolding in Ukraine."&nbsp;</p>

<p>McDonald's closure is in particular of huge significance because of its large size and global reach. Whenever it takes a stance on an issue or makes a major operational change, it is often copied by other companies around the world.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The announcement is also will also carry symbolic importance in Russia, where the first location to open, in central Moscow in 1990, became an iconic symbol of flourishing American capitalism as the Soviet Union fell.&nbsp;</p>

<p>McDonald's had, in a way, opened Russia to the Western culture after the Cold War as the&nbsp;company opened its first location in Moscow&nbsp;three months after the fall of the Berlin Wall.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Paul Musgrave, assistant professor of political science at the University of Massachusetts Amherst said, "When McDonald's moved into the Soviet Union, it was part of a message of opening up and building trust and cooperation between Russia and the West."&nbsp;</p>

<p>"I think there is going to be a little bit of a noticeable hit to McDonald's bottom line. In their 2020 annual report, they had $500 million of assets denominated in rubles that they had to look out for. International business accounts for more than half of McDonald's corporate revenue. Russia is a smaller part of that, but it is a real part of it. So there is a real hit," Musgrave said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Apart from McDonald's, Coca-Cola and coffee chain Starbucks become the latest firms to suspend operations in Russia. Previously, brands like Visa, MasterCard, Nike, Netflix, Alphabet, Apple suspended sales or operations in Russia.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Billionaire Carl Icahn, who is a shareholder in McDonald's, has expressed concerns over welfare of pigs in its food chain.</p>

<p>He has nominated two members to its board of directors in an escalating fight over the treatment of pigs by the burger chain's suppliers.</p>

<p>"Carl Icahn has nominated Leslie Samuelrich and Maisie Ganzler for the 2022 election," McDonald's said in a statement, adding that the board would "evaluate the nominees as it would any other candidates proposed to it."</p>

<p>The Animal Rebellion group said they intended to block the distribution sites in Hemel Hempstead, Basingstoke, Coventry and Greater Manchester -- all in England -- for at least 24 hours.</p>

<p>"We are in the middle of a climate and ecological emergency and we are still consuming huge quantities of meat on a scale that is just not sustainable for our planet," a protester in Coventry said in a video posted on Twitter.</p>

<p>McDonald's confirmed that its distribution centres were currently facing disruption.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"We are assessing the impact on deliveries to our restaurants and to menu items. We apologise to our customers for any disappointment caused," said a spokesperson.</p>

<p>Coventry police said they "recognise the right to a peaceful protest, however there are safety concerns as the sole entrance and exit point to the distribution site has been blocked and this is causing significant disruption to businesses, which we are taking seriously."</p>

<p>McDonald's sued former CEO Steve Easterbrook for allegedly lying about inappropriate sexual relationships with employees Monday, the latest twist in a corporate #MeToo saga that has rocked the fast-food giant.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Easterbrook -- who is British -- was dismissed in November 2019 over his "poor judgment" in engaging in a consensual relationship with a member of staff in violation of company policy.&nbsp;</p>

<p>McDonald's said it had subsequently learned that Easterbrook lied "and destroyed information regarding inappropriate personal behavior" and relationships with three other employees.</p>

<p>It added that the 53-year-old had provided stock worth hundreds of thousands of dollars to one of those employees.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The chain is seeking to recover compensation and severance benefits paid to the executive under the terms of his departure last year, according to a securities filing.</p>

<p>The lawsuit, which alleges that Easterbrook committed fraud by misleading the company over the separation agreement, has been filed in a state court in Delaware.</p>

<p>"(He) was knowingly untruthful with McDonald's investigators," says the complaint, which also shed new light on the relationship that led to his departure.</p>

<p>It had been "a non-physical, consensual relationship involving texting and video calls," the filing says.</p>

<p>"Easterbrook told McDonald's investigators that the relationship was the only one of an intimate nature he had ever had with a McDonald's employee. And he asserted that he had never engaged in a physical sexual relationship with any McDonald's employee," it adds.</p>

<p>But in July this year, McDonald's received an anonymous tip-off that Easterbrook had engaged in a sexual relationship with someone who worked for him while he was CEO.</p>

<p>An internal investigation found evidence of that relationship, and of two others, McDonald's said.</p>

<p>"That evidence consisted of dozens of nude, partially nude, or sexually explicit photographs and videos of various women, including photographs of these company employees," the filing says.</p>

<p>It adds that Easterbrook had sent the photographs, which were allegedly taken in late 2018 and early 2019, as attachments to messages from his company e-mail account to his personal e-mail account.</p>

<p>Easterbrook, who was appointed CEO in March 2015, was widely credited with boosting the burger chain's fortunes.</p>

<p>In 2018, his base pay was $1.3 million and his total compensation including bonus and stock options was $15.9 million.</p>

<p>Easterbrook's separation agreement included six months' severance pay, plus stock options.</p>

<p><strong>Union complaint&nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>Equilar, a compensation consulting firm, has estimated his exit package at around $40 million.</p>

<p>Easterbrook was replaced by Chris Kempczinski, who joined McDonald's in October 2015 after working in a senior strategic role at Kraft Foods and previously at PepsiCo.</p>

<p>One day after Easterbrook's departure, McDonald's announced that its top human resources executive, David Fairhurst, who joined McDonald's in 2005 and was named chief people officer at the restaurant chain in 2015, had also left.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In May, an international group of labor unions filed a complaint against McDonald's for what it called systematic sexual harassment at the fast food chain's restaurants around the world.</p>

<p>The complaint, filed with the Dutch national contact point for the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), was the first of its kind to target a multinational company, the International Union of Foodworkers said.</p>

<p>The document cites witness testimony of "attempted rape, indecent exposure, groping, and sexual offers."</p>

<p>McDonald's said at the time it would review the complaint, stressing that the food giant was a "people-first company."</p>

<p>Its shares fell by 0.60 per cent following Monday's lawsuit announcement.</p>

<p>Sales at US&nbsp;restaurants open for at least 13 months rose 4.8 per cent in the third quarter ended Sept. 30, below the 5.17% growth expected by analysts, according to Refinitiv data.</p>

<p>"Our gut tells us that McDonald's was outcompeted in the third quarter by Wendy's and Burger King," Cowen analyst Andrew Charles said in a note.</p>

<p>Despite the US&nbsp;miss, Bernstein analyst Sara Senatore said sales "continue to be among the best in the industry" and that benefits from store renovations should build in future quarters.</p>

<p>Globally, the company reported better-than-expected comparable sales growth of 5.9 per cent on strong performance in markets such as the UK and France.</p>

<p>Interest in plant-based burgers has jumped in North America, and consumers have been waiting to see if McDonald's will expand its test of a Beyond Meat Inc burger in Ontario, Canada, to the United States and other markets.</p>

<p>Easterbook gave no clues other than saying they were interested in such products and wanted to get the flavour and marketing right.</p>

<p>"What we're interested in is really how best to position this, get a sense of the flexitarian customer," he said, referring to people who eat mostly, but not entirely, vegetarian diets.</p>

<p>Net income fell 2 per cent to $1.61 billion in the quarter from $1.64 billion a year earlier.</p>

<p>Total revenue, including both US&nbsp;and overseas operations, rose to $5.43 billion, slightly below analysts' expectations of $5.49 billion.</p>

<p>The company also expects selling, general and administrative expenses for 2019 to rise between 1 per cent to 2 per cent excluding the impact of currency fluctuations.</p>

<p>McDonald's expects delivery to drive $4 billion, or roughly 4 per cent, of global sales.</p>

<p>The service is now available from about 23,000 McDonald's restaurants in over 80 countries. On average, guests spend twice as much on delivery orders as they do on in-store checks, Easterbrook said.</p>

<p>"Delivery remains a big frontier for our business, and we still have a long way to go," he said.</p>

Sales at US restaurants open for at least 13 months rose 4.8 per cent in the third quarter ended Sept. 30, below the 5.17% growth expected by analysts, according to Refinitiv data. "Our gut tells us that McDonald's was outcompeted in the third quarter by Wendy's and Burger King," Cowen analyst Andrew Charles said in a note. Despite the US miss, Bernstein analyst Sara Senatore said sales "continue to be among the best in the industry" and that benefits from store renovations should build in future quarters. Globally, the company reported better-than-expected comparable sales growth of 5.9 per cent on strong performance in markets such as the UK and France. Interest in plant-based burgers has jumped in North America, and consumers have been waiting to see if McDonald's will expand its test of a Beyond Meat Inc burger in Ontario, Canada, to the United States and other markets. Easterbook gave no clues other than saying they were interested in such products and wanted to get the flavour and marketing right. "What we're interested in is really how best to position this, get a sense of the flexitarian customer," he said, referring to people who eat mostly, but not entirely, vegetarian diets. Net income fell 2 per cent to $1.61 billion in the quarter from $1.64 billion a year earlier. Total revenue, including both US and overseas operations, rose to $5.43 billion, slightly below analysts' expectations of $5.49 billion. The company also expects selling, general and administrative expenses for 2019 to rise between 1 per cent to 2 per cent excluding the impact of currency fluctuations. McDonald's expects delivery to drive $4 billion, or roughly 4 per cent, of global sales. The service is now available from about 23,000 McDonald's restaurants in over 80 countries. On average, guests spend twice as much on delivery orders as they do on in-store checks, Easterbrook said. "Delivery remains a big frontier for our business, and we still have a long way to go," he said.
