<p>SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) skipper Pat Cummins took a dig at his Australian teammate Marnus Labuschagne after SRH posted the highest team total of 287/3 in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. SRH, who had battered Mumbai Indians (MI) for 277/3 a few days ago, improved their own record by 10 runs on April 15 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.</p>

<p>After the match, Cummins posted a photo of himself along with Travis Head, who scored a belligerent 102 off 41 balls, on the social media platform Instagram. Cummins wrote in the caption: 'This guy (in reference to Head)' and mentioned the runs scored by SRH to which Labuschagne responded with 'wow.'</p>

<p>Cummins also expressed a bit of surprise at SRH bettering their record of highest IPL total by a team within days and said after the match: "Against Mumbai a few weeks ago I thought it won't happen again, but it has happened again."&nbsp;</p>

<p>As for RCB, they started off with a blaze as Virat Kohli and Faf&nbsp;du Plessis scored 80 runs in 6.1 overs before Mayank Markande clean-bowled Kohli with a googly. RCB always needed something special to win the game but once Kohli departed, the chase derailed.</p>

<p>They were soon 122/5 at midway when Karthik and Mahipal Lomror took over. The duo added 59 runs in 25 balls to give RCB a sniff but the target was too much to handle. RCB, despite posting the&nbsp;highest total in a chase, fell short by 25 runs&nbsp;after scoring 262/7.</p>

<p>With the win, SRH now have eight points from four victories in eight games and currently sit at fourth place on the 10-team table.</p>

As Australia are defending champions of the historic rivalry, they will retain the crown.</p>

Ashes 2023: Marnus Labuschagne rues missed chances in Manchester Test, says 'I think we would be disappointed'

<p>It requires some skill to dismiss the ranked number-one Test batter in the world on a first-ball duck, and England’s Stuart Broad deserves some credit for this. Not only in the first innings of the Edgbaston Test but on both occasions, the England veteran got rid of Marnus Labuschagne, in a similar fashion, caught behind. Now, ahead of the start of the second Test that begins on Wednesday at Lord’s in London, Marnus is working on the way to not getting out chasing the fifth-stump line.</p>

<p>Labuschagne admitted the low bounce on that lifeless Edgbaston pitch pushed him to play that line, which resulted in his dismissal in both innings.&nbsp;The right-handed batter said those the manner in which he got out was very uncharacteristic, and he was frustrated with himself because of that.</p>

<p>"When you get out first ball, you just throw it in the bag. Potentially, I thought that they were going to come straight, and then he got a nice ball that swung in the right area. With a lack of bounce at Edgbaston, it sucks you into thinking you can hit the ball a bit more, and I just made a few poor decisions [against balls] that were really wide. They'd be eighth or ninth stump, some of those deliveries.</p>

<p>"They were very uncharacteristic dismissals to how I've usually played, that's why I was pretty frustrated with myself to get out that way and asked myself the question, 'Why did I play at those deliveries?" - Marnus said.</p>

<p>Speaking of how he would avoid getting into the same position again in the series, Marnus said he would work on some technicalities; and since it’s a rarity for him to get out like this, he believes not sleeping over it would help the cause.</p>

<p>"I've come up with my summation of what that is. Now it's if there's anything I can do tactically or technically to make sure it doesn't happen again. It's a rarity that I'd play at those balls, so it's not something I'm going to overthink, but I hold myself to a much higher standard than those dismissals," the star Aussie batter added.</p>

<p>England fast bowler Stuart Broad dismissed Aussie David Warner once again in Tests - this time during the ongoing first Ashes Test in Edgbaston. This is the 15th time Broad has dismissed Warner in red-ball cricket, suffice to call the southpaw Broad's bunny.</p>

<p>Australia resumed their innings on day 2 from 14/0 and Broad, in the seventh over of the day, bowled a short and wide delivery outside off stump. Warner, trying to slash it hard, edged the ball and it went on to hit his leg stump. Warner, who scored just 9 off 27 balls, completely loathed himself after getting out while Broad's jubilation knew no bounds. Have a look at the wicket here:</p>

<p>Star Australia batter Marnus Labuschagne has reflected on the upcoming challenge as his side faces a busy couple of months in the English summer. Labuschagne, operating at No. 3 will be vital for the Aussies as they take on India in the upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) while underlining his role at the one-down position. According to him playing at No.3 is a big responsibility for the Australian side and he will have a big role to play in the Ashes, which starts on June 16 in Edgbaston.</p>

<h2><strong>Labuschagne underlines the key role</strong></h2>

<p>"Naturally, anyone that is batting No.3 for Australia is going to have responsibility," Labuschagne said.</p>

<p>"Even in 2019 (last time in England for Ashes) it was my responsibility, it was my job to score runs and if I didn't score runs they would find someone else to do my job and I don't think that changes.</p>

<p>"It is about finding ways to score runs and contribute to the side in as many games as I can."</p>

<p>Labuschagne has been in fine form in the Welsh County Championship for Glamorgan where has ended with two hundreds in four matches. In total, he scored 504 runs and gained vital playing time before he takes guard for the national side.</p>

<p>Against India, the South African-born batter has a decent record and has scored 708 runs in nine matches. He also has scored three fifties and a hundred with a best of 108 and averages 47.20 in the longer format.</p>

<p>The WTC final will start on Wednesday, June 7 at the iconic Oval Stadium in London, with an opportunity for India to win a Grand Slam of ICC titles. As things stand, the WTC trophy remains the only piece missing from the puzzle. India won the ODI World Cup in 1983 and 2011, while they lifted the T20 World Cup in 2007 and won the Champions Trophy in 2000 and 2013.</p>

<p>Ranked number one Test batter in the world, Australia's Marnus Labuschagne has warned England of Steve Smith donning the 2019 hat - wherein he single-handedly punished the home side by scoring 774 runs from seven innings in the draw Ashes.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Ahead of the upcoming winter Ashes that begins with the first Test in Edgbaston on June 16th, Marnus revealed Smith's change in technique could be a nightmare for the hosts.</p>

<p>Playing for Glamorgan in the County Championship, Marnus is preparing for the Ashes 2023. While he is sure of his credentials heading into the mega event, Marnus feels Smith would again be the backbone of the travelling side.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Speaking with&nbsp;<em>The Sydney Morning Herald</em>, Marnus said the way Smith batted against West Indies and South Africa in the summer gone by and how he batted against England in 2019, there is a vast difference as he has tweaked his technique a bit.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"If you look at how he batted this summer against the West Indies and South Africa, compared to how he batted in the Ashes in 2019, they're two polar opposite methods of batting," Marnus said, as quoted in AFP.</p>

<p>"He has that freakish ability that he can find ways to have success regardless of how he plays," Labuschagne added.</p>

<p>Since the home summer where Smith shone with bat, he was surprisingly successful in the Big Bash - where he scored 346 from five matches, including two centuries. According to Marnus, this all happened because of a small change Smith did to his stance, changing it from being 'really open' to 'a lot more side on'.</p>

<p>"You can see why his Twenty20 game has gone through the roof with some of those technical changes. It's certainly helped him with his power and his swing. He took the mickey this summer in the white-ball stuff," he added.</p>

<p>"It just shows he can bat both those ways and have ample success. And knowing Steve he's made sure he works out what he feels is the best method to score runs here in England."</p>

<p>It's fair to say the former Test captain Smith loves playing in England, a country where he averages nearly 60 in 16 Tests.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Representing Sussex in the ongoing County, Smith was on 68* overnight against Marnus' Glamorgan.</p>

While Marnus is the ranked number one batter in Tests, Ashwin is second on the list of all-rounders in this format. Both these star cricketers have faced each other once in the past - during the 2020/21 BGT Down Under, and now this time they are up and ready for round 2.</p>

<p>Marnus, who made his Test debut in England a few years back, said scoring against extreme swing and spin is what makes a batter stand out&nbsp;from the rest. Having scored runs in the difficult batting conditions in England, the right-hander now wants to achieve the same against the spin-heavy Indian bowling attack on their shores as well. In a recent chat with Cricbuzz, Marnus said he&nbsp;is looking forward to this challenge.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"The really good batters over generations have been very good at home. But the really great ones have done very well away. There's probably two major challenges for an Australian batter away from home, India and England," Labuschagne told Cricbuzz.</p>

<p>Having toured Sri Lanka and Pakistan in the past year, Marnus has had the experience of facing some good spinners on dry pitches. Now ahead of his maiden away Test series in India, he knows what challenge awaits him - one that has troubled almost everyone - Ravichandran Ashwin.</p>

<p>Ashwin in the past has dismissed Marnus twice, but those were on the bouncy Australian pitches. On the tracks that will offer turn from day one, the Aussie batter knows what Ashwin brings to the table and how different he is from others.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"We knew Ramesh Mendis the offie, but the threat here will be R Ashwin. Not only does he have a great stock ball, he has great variations, whereas Mendis had a good stock ball, but he didn't probably have the changes like Ashwin. Nor did he have the use of the crease, the angle of the wrist, the seam angles and stuff like that. It probably comes more into your mind here because you know the bowlers," the ranked-number-one Test batter said.</p>

<p>"So you know Axar (Patel), (Ravindra) Jadeja and Ashwin, they are the three and maybe Kuldeep (Yadav) will be the add-on. You prepare for them. From a spin perspective, that's always on your mind. I think that's what makes you keep thinking because you're like ok how am I going to attack Ashwin. This is what faced from him before. How am I going to attack Jadeja, this is what he's bowled before," Labuschagne further added.</p>

He feels if the pitches are fair, Pat Cummins &amp; Co. will win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for the first time since early 2017. It is to be noted that the last three editions have gone in favour of India, with them beating Australia twice in a row on their home soil as well.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"I think if they produce fair Indian wickets, that are good batting wickets, to start with, (that) probably spin and spin pretty consistently but spin a long way, late in the match we (Australia) win," Healy said on 'SENQ Breakfast'.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Healy further pointed out, "I'm worried about (Mitchell) Starc and (Nathan) Lyon in the first Test if they're unfair wickets which I've seen in the last series, where balls were jumping ridiculously and sliding down low from day one, I think India play those conditions better than us." Thus, he cited, "I want the players to be very aware if they are escaping that pressure (from the locals) if you're escaping that pressure and hiding in your room using the golf simulator I think you've got to do something else."</p>

Since both are known to be using their mind-games in different forms while playing on the field, Marnus said he is ready for yet another challenge against Ashwin.</p>

<p>"Since then [the last series] I've already started thinking," Labuschagne said. "I've changed some of my game because of what I've heard about Ashwin and how he bowled to me. I've adapted my game to try and foil a few of his ideas and ways he goes about it, so it's going to be a lovely game of chess and I can't wait for it," Marnus said.</p>

<p>Having made his Test debut in late 2018, Marnus climbed to the top of the batter's chart in such a short period. Following a super impressive summer at home this time where he notched up centuries and double hundreds against West Indies and South Africa, Marnus will now be busy playing the ongoing Big Bash League with Brisbane Heats. Though he said he already has some plans in place against the Indian spinners, it's just about executing them now.</p>

<p>"The preparation starts so far back. People think, right now it's Big Bash then you start thinking - but the thinking happens way ahead. You start processing everything in your mind, you go through every scenario of what bowler you are going to come across. I've already thought about my plans, so now it's just about executing. Finding out, 'That works, that doesn't work. How can that part of my game fit in?', and just piece the puzzle together and make sure the puzzle is ready when it's game time. That's the key, and that's how all preparation happens," Labuschagne said.</p>

<p>Adding that the contest against India is something he's looking forward to, the right-handed batter said despite playing some good cricket lately the bigger challenge will be to win the Border-Gavaskar series, and tackling 'Bazball' in Ashes later this year.</p>

<p>"I can't wait, so excited for the next 10 Test matches. We've played really well, people know we are very good at home, very tough to beat...but the challenge we have going two away series in a row, that's going to be awesome. I can't wait for the challenge against spin in India and can't wait for the challenge of Bazball versus Ronball," Marnus concluded.</p>
