Manchester United's Champions League hopes hang by a thread. The Red Devils not only need to beat German Giants Bayern Munich but also require the other group A match between FC Copenhagen and Galatasaray to end in a draw to reach the knockout stages.

Explained: How Manchester United can qualify for Champions League Last-16

The struggles for Manchester United in this season has been a talking point. After their loss to&nbsp;Bournemouth, by a 0-3 margin at Old Trafford, the club's former midfielder Paul Scholes opened up on the Red Devils' struggles and admitted that they do not have players to compete at the top of the table. After their loss to Bournemouth, United are at the sixth spot in the Premier League standings and next face&nbsp;Bayern Munich in a must-win match, at Old Trafford, in the UEFA Champions League on December 13.

Speaking to TNT Sports, Scholes said, “We definitely don’t have the players to compete at the top of the table. We’re nowhere near that level. Even if this group of players perform to their very best, they’re just not good enough. The culture of the club comes from the training ground and the manager needs to get that right. It just seems all over the place."

The 49-year-old believes Erik Ten Hag should continue as the manager but he will face enormous pressure once new owners come into the picture. He added, "I think for the manager, unless he gets something sorted pretty quickly, he’s going to come under huge pressure. I just don’t think changing is the answer, but you have to worry about it - especially when new owners come in. New owners like to bring new people in. He’ll be under big pressure if things don’t improve."

Man United's struggles can be evident from the fact that the team has&nbsp;scored only 18 goals in 16 league matches. They&nbsp;have 27 points in 16 matches, winning nine and losing seven. They have a negative goal difference of -3 and have some stern challenges going ahead. After facing Bayern in the UCL clash, they will soon lock horns with arch-rivals Liverpool in their next Premier League clash,&nbsp;on Dec&nbsp;17.

Manchester United’s Champions League hopes are hanging in balance as they take on Harry Kane’s Bayern Munich in Europe’s elite club competition on Tuesday (Dec 12) evening. The contest at Old Trafford will have huge bearings on the fate of manager Erik ten Hag as United face a tough run of fixtures in the coming days. Heading into the contest, United will need a helping hand to progress to the Round of 16 while they need to beat German champions Bayern Munich. The night will also see Arsenal, Napoli and Real Madrid in action with qualification already secured.

<h2>Manchester United’s equation for the R16</h2>

Currently at bottom of the four-team group standings, United need a miracle of sorts to reach the R16 with them on four points from five matches. Bayern Munich are top of the table with 13 points in five matches and have already won Group A. Copenhagen and Galatasaray are second and third respectively with five points each. Interestingly, both Copenhagen and Galatasaray meet in the other meeting while United host Harry Kane-inspired Bayern Munich at Old Trafford in two weeks.

United’s only equation of reaching the R16 is simple, they must beat Bayern Munich at Old Trafford on Tuesday. However, they will need a helping hand from both Copenhagen and Galatasaray with their head-to-head clash should result in a draw. However, any other set of results in the two matches will see United get eliminated. If both the matches end in a draw and United fail to win on final matchday it will be curtains in Europe altogether for Erik ten Hag’s side.

A win for United coupled with a win for either Copenhagen or Galatasaray will see the Premier League side get relegated to the Europa League. If this is the case, United will be the fourth English side to join the second-tier European competition with West Ham United, Liverpool and Brighton also part of the competition. Interestingly, Newcastle United could become the fifth team to join the Europa League if results go against them on Wednesday.

<h2>Other fixtures</h2>

The evening will also feature Arsenal and PSV in action with the former already guaranteed the top spot in Group B while PSV need a point to guarantee a place in the R16. Napoli will also need a point against Braga to secure the second spot in C with Real Madrid already through as group winners. Inter Milan’s clash will Real Sociedad will see who wins Group D with both teams already through to the next round.

Champions League: Manchester United's fate hangs in balance as Harry Kane's Bayern Munich visit Old Trafford

Manchester United's future in this season's Champions League hangs by a thread ahead of Bayern Munich's visit to Old Trafford, with an early exit in Europe sure to put more scrutiny on manager Erik ten Hag.

The Dutchman tried to argue after victory over Chelsea last week that United's season has not reached crisis-mode.

But Ten Hag's hopes that a turning point had been reached were short-lived as a 3-0 defeat at home to Bournemouth on Saturday saw a troubled campaign reach a new low.

The Red Devils sit sixth in the Premier League after seven defeats in their opening 16 games.

Yet, while there may be time to recover a place in the top four domestically, their need in the Champions League is urgent.

Only victory against the German champions on Tuesday will give United any chance of progress to the last 16 and even then, they need FC Copenhagen and Galatasaray to draw in their final Group A match.

United are fortunate to even have a shot at the knockout stages after a return of just four points from their opening five matches.

No English side has ever conceded as many as the 14 goals that Ten Hag's men have in five Champions League group games.

A series of high-scoring shootouts in Europe contrasts sharply with United's troubles to score goals in the Premier League.

"We are really inconsistent. We have the abilities to do it, but you have to do it every game and every third day," said Ten Hag after Bournemouth celebrated their first ever win at Old Trafford in style.

"I think as a squad we are not good enough to be consistent and we have to work as a squad to improve that."

<h2>- Rashford's demise -</h2>

No United forward has scored at home in the Premier League all season as Marcus Rashford's demise has contributed to his side's struggles.

Rashford scored 30 times in a career-best campaign for goals last season but has just two so far this season -- one of which came from the penalty spot.

The England international has exhausted Ten Hag's patience and been dropped for the last two games.

But Rashford could return against Bayern as his understudies have also struggled to shine.

Alejandro Garnacho has produced flashes of brilliance, though remains wildly inconsistent as can be expected for a 19-year-old winger.

Meanwhile Antony, who Ten Hag pushed to sign in a £86 million ($108 million) deal last year, has not scored in his last 25 matches.

The Brazilian is just one of a long list of expensive flops that have seen United's fortunes decline in a decade since Alex Ferguson departed as manager.

Last weekend's loss to Bournemouth was the 35th home league defeat suffered by United since Ferguson's retirement.

During the iconic 26-year reign of the Scottish manager, United were only beaten in the league at Old Trafford 34 times.

Bayern may already be assured of their place in the last 16 as group winners but have a point to prove themselves after being thrashed 5-1 by Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday.

And the last time Bayern lost a Champions League group game was six years ago.

United captain Bruno Fernandes said his side must "do their job" and hope for help in Copenhagen.

"We know that the next game is going to be really tough - we have to win and wait for a good result in the other game for us," said Fernandes.

"We have to do our job, first of all, but we are more than capable of getting the result in that."

Manager Erik Ten Hag under scrutiny as Manchester United fight for Champions League survival

Manchester United's Scott McTominay continued his rich vein of goalscoring form when he netted either side of halftime to lift his team to a well-deserved 2-1 Premier League victory over Chelsea at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

United dominated in a victory that relieved some pressure on beleaguered manager Erik ten Hag, whose team have been hounded by reports of unrest in the dressing room, and moved them into sixth in the table on 27 points -- three shy of the top four -- after 15 games. Chelsea are 10th on 19 points.

United peppered Chelsea keeper Robert Sanchez with 28 shots including nine on target in a terrific fight-back after Saturday's 1-0 loss at Newcastle that McTominay called "abysmal". "The boys were so upset with how we done with that game, it wasn't anywhere near good enough, and to come in tonight and win was a plus and something we can build on," the midfielder told Amazon Prime.

United's victory was their fourth in their last five league games. "After the last game at Newcastle, it was not good," midfielder Sofyan Amrabat said. "We wanted to react today to show the fans our energy and that we wanted to win."

McTominay, who now has five goals in the league this season, opened the scoring in the 19th minute, taking one touch before firing in a left-footed volley after Harry Maguire's shot was blocked. Chelsea's Cole Palmer, who grew up a United fan and was playing his first game at Old Trafford, levelled just before halftime when he threaded a left-footed shot through defender Victor Lindelof's legs and past keeper Andre Onana.

McTominay's second of the night came in the 69th minute when he headed in a pinpoint cross from Alejandro Garnacho. Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial, who were heavily criticised for their lackadaisical effort on Saturday, were left out of the starting line-up.

United captain Bruno Fernandes had a penalty saved in the ninth minute after VAR determined Antony had been fouled in the penalty area. McTominay had numerous chances for a hat-trick including in a frenzied few seconds when Sanchez denied him with a stunning double save just before the interval.

"The other team deserved the victory," Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino said. "It was difficult at the start. They showed massive energy."

PL: Scott McTominay nets brace to lead Manchester United to impressive 2-1 win over Chelsea

Manager Erik ten Hag has played down reports of unrest in Manchester United's dressing room ahead of their Premier League showdown with Chelsea on Wednesday. The club banned four journalists from Tuesday's press conference after they reported that the manager had lost more than 50% of the dressing room.

The manager was asked if he was concerned that the stories in the media could be true.

"No, of course there are always in every team players who are not playing who are not as happy, not different as normal, you have to wait for the chance and that can come, but there are no issues," he said.

The club said in a statement they barred the reporters: "Not for publishing stories we don't like, but for doing so without contacting us first and give us the opportunity to comment, challenge or contextualise."

Ten Hag backed the stand taken by United.

"They should have come to us first and not go behind our back printing articles, that is not the right thing," Ten Hag told reporters. "We have a good relationship, they come to us beforehand, we have a debate about it."

The Dutchman then highlighted his team's success, adding that he had the support of the players.

"Oh yes, I am sure, you can see for instance the comeback against Brentford, the Burnley game, the Fulham game, every time the team is there, showed great character, great determination, resilience so we are together.

"You can see you can't play such great football as we did recently without unity."

The manager was also keen to point out that there is no disorder within the squad.

"Not in the dressing room. Of course, there are a lot of rumours but it is not that we get distracted by it," Ten Hag said. "We are on a journey, a route, we know we are in transition but we are in the right direction, we construct a team, develop it, the team is progressing, young players coming in and you see the potential how they can contribute to a successful Manchester United team for the future."

After three consecutive league wins, United suffered a 1-0 defeat at Newcastle United on Saturday, but the manager was not too concerned.

"We had a week of two good performances and one bad performance so from there on we carry on, the team is in a good direction.

"We played very good football scored very good goals against Galatasaray and Everton and against Newcastle didn't play great, we're not happy with that performance, but we stayed in the game and had two good opportunities to get a point."

United are seventh in the standings with 24 points.

PL: Erik Ten Hag plays down reports of unrest in dressing room ahead of Chelsea clash

Harry Maguire has thanked David Beckham after the former Manchester United star contacted the troubled England defender to offer support when he was booed by Scotland fans earlier this season. Maguire has endured abuse from supporters across the country during his difficult spell at Old Trafford, but the penchant for picking on the centre-back reached a crescendo during England's friendly in Scotland last month. The 30-year-old was mercilessly goaded at Hampden Park after scoring an own goal in England's 3-1 win.

Maguire laughed it off as a "little bit of banter" immediately after the match but his mother publicly came to his defence after growing tired of the relentless abuse of her son. Former England captain Beckham also offered support to Maguire as he personally reached out to the former Leicester star, who has lost his place in the United defence, as well as the club captaincy, during Erik ten Hag's reign.

Few have faced more difficult times in an England shirt than Beckham, who laid bare the pain he suffered after his 1998 World Cup red card against Argentina in a new Netflix documentary.

"I actually spoke with David about three weeks ago, after the Scotland game," Maguire said on Monday (Oct 9). "He got in touch with me, so it was really nice of him and I really appreciated that. It meant everything.

"I've spoken throughout my career about David Beckham being someone I looked up to and watched when I was a young boy. "Unfortunately, I didn't end up on the right wing scoring and assisting as many goals as he has. But he was a big role model when I was growing up. "It shows how classy he is to reach out to me and to message me. It was something I really appreciated. It was touching really."

Maguire said the "main thing" Beckham did in their conversation was to remind him of his career to date and the big moments he has enjoyed.

"I think when you're going through tough moments, you've got to go through past experiences and where you've gone in your career and what you've been through," Maguire said in the build-up to England's friendly against Australia at Wembley on Friday.

"Every career is so up and down, especially when you reach what I've reached, in terms of being the captain of the biggest club in the world for three and a half years. He's been in that position and knows what it's like.

"Obviously having watched the documentary I couldn't believe how much he went through at the time. In the documentary, Gary Neville speaks about how resilient he is as a person.&nbsp;

"I think he's been a huge role model for many footballers growing up, especially in my era."

It was touching really." "I think when you're going through tough moments, you've got to go through past experiences and where you've gone in your career and what you've been through," Maguire said in the build-up to England's friendly against Australia at Wembley on Friday. "Every career is so up and down, especially when you reach what I've reached, in terms of being the captain of the biggest club in the world for three and a half years. He's been in that position and knows what it's like. "Obviously having watched the documentary I couldn't believe how much he went through at the time. Football: Harry Maguire thanks David Beckham for support in difficult times

Bruno Fernandes says he is relishing the prospect of playing in a hostile atmosphere at Galatasaray this week as Manchester United seek to keep their slim Champions League hopes alive. Erik ten Hag's side appear unlikely to reach the knockout stages after defeats in three of their four Group A matches left them rooted at the bottom of the table.

The three-time European champions have lost away to Bayern Munich and Copenhagen and at home to Galatasaray, meaning another defeat in Istanbul on Wednesday (Nov 29) would end their Champions League dreams with a match to spare. But United captain Fernandes said the players were confident they could turn things around, with Wednesday's match at Galatasaray followed by a home game against already-qualified Bayern.

"We know that's going to be tough, it's going to be difficult but we have to think that we can do it because we have done it in the past in difficult situations," he said. "We get through some difficult periods, so we just have to do it again."

United beat Everton 3-0 on Sunday for their fifth league victory in six games, leaving them sixth in the table despite a poor start to the season.

"Obviously sometimes you don't get the results you want but we feel confident because we have confidence in the team we have, in the players we have, in the process we are (going) through," said Fernandes.

"We know that it's already the second year with this manager, so some of the things have to be better and we have to improve that on the road to win games." United lost 3-2 to Galatasaray in the reverse fixture at Old Trafford last month and now face one of the most intimidating atmospheres in Europe -- something Fernandes believes will help him rather than hinder him.

"We prepare for that," said the Portugal international. "I think when you are a kid you want to play in this kind of atmosphere. "You know that Galatasaray away is going to be great, is going to be an amazing atmosphere.

"I think me, as a player, I love playing (in these) kinds of stadiums because it's a big boost for you." Ten Hag's side will be without the suspended Marcus Rashford and a number of other first-team players in Istanbul.

"The other ones have to step (up)," Fernandes said. "They have to step like Kobbie (Mainoo) did (at Everton). Everyone else that gets the chance, they have to make a big step and make a statement to be in the squad.

Champions League: Bruno Fernandes relishes prospect of playing against Galatasaray

Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag has backed struggling Rashford to come good while promising that the team will support him fully. The comments come after United lost to Newcastle United - their sixth lose of the season in the Premier League, during which Rashford was substituted in 61st minute.

Rashford's form has gone down drastically as the England forward has managed to just score two goals in 18 games across all competitions this season while he had managed 30 goals last season.

"I know this issue is coming up and Marcus is investing a lot, we support him and he will return to his form," said Ten Hag.

"He works hard and he's investing a lot. He will get back, he will recover and he gets all our support," he added.

The manager also spoke about the loss and agreed that Newcastle were way better than them on the day.

"Today we have to say the credit's to Newcastle," he said.

"After the start, where we could have scored with Alejandro Garnacho, they were better than us.

"They were more proactive and we had to go behind to go back. We allowed them one goal and in the end we fought back. We had two good opportunities but we couldn't take a point from there," added Ten Hag.

The closest United came to levelling was when Fabian Schar blocked Sergio Reguilon's goalbound volley.

But that incident came with a cost for Newcastle as goalkeeper Pope jolted his shoulder in an attempt to save the Spaniard's shot.

United finally showed some urgency for the closing stages plus nine minutes of added time for Pope's injury and did have the ball in the net.

However, Maguire was clearly offside as he deflected in Antony's effort and Newcastle held on to close to within two points of the top four.

With the loss, United is now seventh on the points table with 24 points after eight wins from 14 games.

Premier League: Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag vows full support to struggling Rashford

Newcastle shrugged off an injury crisis to beat Manchester United 1-0 on Saturday thanks to Anthony Gordon's second-half winner.

Victory takes Eddie Howe's men above United into fifth in the Premier League table and was the very least the home side deserved for a dominant display that should have been rewarded with more goals.

Gordon's solitary strike proved enough as he slotted in Kieran Trippier's cross in 55th minute.

But the three points came at a cost for Newcastle as goalkeeper Nick Pope hobbled off late on to add to their injury woes.

The Magpies were without 11 first-team players, yet were utterly dominant for the first hour against a United side that are yet to register a win against a side in the top nine of the Premier League table this season.

"We are well aware of our situation but the players have responded again," said Howe.

"I couldn't be happier with the players tonight, I thought we gave a really good display. The character and effort levels have been of the highest level."

Andre Onana was in the spotlight after his two glaring errors cost Erik ten Hag's men in a 3-3 draw at Galatasaray in midweek that could prove fatal to their chances of progression in the Champions League.

But the Cameroonian made an important early save to deny Miguel Almiron finding the far corner.

Newcastle also suffered Champions League disappointment in midweek as a controversial stoppage-time penalty denied them a famous victory at Paris Saint-Germain.

Howe's lack of options meant he was forced to name the same side for a third consecutive game with 17-year-old Lewis Miley starting in midfield.

But there was no sign of fatigue from the home side as United could not cope with Newcastle's energy on and off the ball.

"It definitely makes the result more satisfying that we pulled through with the same team," said Gordon.

"It's not just the lads that are injured, the ones that are playing have kicks and bruises...I'm limping . It's so satisfying because we know how hard we work for each other, so to get the win today is massive."

Alexander Isak's effort was deflected inches wide by Harry Maguire before Trippier's free-kick came back off the underside of the bar as Newcastle were unfortunate not to make their dominance count before half-time.

However, the deadlock was finally broken when Trippier was played in down the right and he picked out Gordon to tap home his sixth goal of the season at the far post.

Ten Hag finally responded only after falling behind as the ineffectual Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial were replaced by Rasmus Hojlund and Antony.

Yet those changes elicited little response from the visitors as United slumped to a sixth Premier League defeat of the season.

"All over you have to say Newcastle deserved to win," conceded Ten Hag.

"We will talk tomorrow with the team about it and move on to Wednesday (against Chelsea)."

Premier League: Injury-laden Newcastle good enough for win over Manchester United

Arsenal are back on top of the Premier League with ambitions to stay there as they host Wolves this weekend while champions Manchester City play faltering Tottenham. Newcastle take on Manchester United in a clash of two teams with high ambitions of their own while Chelsea face Brighton, still searching for consistency.

Here's&nbsp;three talking points ahead of the action, as per AFP Sport.

<h2>Can Arsenal mix style with substance?</h2>

Arsenal's last-gasp 1-0 win at Brentford last week, which took them back to the top of table, was their fifth Premier League victory by a single goal this season. The Gunners lack the fluidity they showed in the 2022/23 campaign and attacking numbers are down but former Manchester United defender Gary Neville believes they are now better equipped to win the league.

"Perfect, pretty football is unlikely to win the league unless it's combined with a doggedness and resilience," he said on X, formerly known as Twitter.&nbsp;"Arsenal are better this year in these areas and the football will come in due course."

But former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher, a Sky Sports pundit alongside Neville, believes Mikel Arteta's team need to win games more convincingly. "If Arsenal continue how they are, if this is the Arsenal we're going to see this season, I don't think they can win the league," he told Sky.

He added: "So many games are going to the wire and sometimes that can go against you.... Those games that finish 1-0 can easily go 1-0 the other way." Arsenal smashed Lens 6-0 in the Champions League in midweek in a reminder of what can happen when everything clicks.

<h2>Tottenham face daunting Man City trip</h2>

Early pacesetters Tottenham desperately need to arrest their slide after three straight defeats but champions Manchester City are their next port of call. Ange Postecoglou's team, unbeaten in their first 10 games, have developed the costly habit of letting leads slip -- losing to Chelsea, Wolves and Aston Villa despite scoring first each time.

Postecoglou is grappling with a lengthy list of absentees and suffered another blow with the loss of midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur, expected to be out until February after suffering a serious ankle injury against Villa.

City last week showed a chink in their armour, failing to win at home in any competition for the first time this year when they were held 1-1 by Liverpool.

But Erling Haaland notched his 50th Premier League goal in just his 48th game at the Etihad -- obliterating Andy Cole's record -- and this week became the quickest player to 40 Champions League goals with his strike against RB Leipzig.

City will be confident normal order can be resumed at home.

<h2>Newcastle bank on home form against Man Utd</h2>

Newcastle v Manchester United pits a team with one of the best home records against a side who have been picking up wins on the road. Despite a long injury list, Newcastle have won six of their seven Premier League games at their St James' Park stronghold this season.

Erik ten Hag's Manchester United, despite their patchy form overall, have four victories out of six games away from home. Both teams have ambitions of qualifying for season's Champions League and they each face a battle to qualify for the knockout phase of this year's competition after midweek draws.

Newcastle, who recently hammered Manchester United 3-0 in the League Cup, will fancy their chances against a team who, while they have started to score more freely, remain vulnerable at the back.

United have conceded 33 goals in all competitions this season, the most in their opening 20 matches of any campaign since 1962/63.

Arsenal plot long stay at Premier League summit, Man City play Tottenham and Newcastle host Man United

Former Manchester United star Marouane Fellaini called his five years at Shandong Taishan "among the best of my life" as he bid an emotional farewell to China. The 36-year-old said in September that he would leave the club in China's northeast but it is unclear what he will do next, with some reports saying he will retire.

The former Belgian international midfielder/forward won the Chinese Super League with Shandong in 2021 and was also a three-time domestic cup winner. "This is an emotional moment for me because the time has come to say goodbye," he wrote on Instagram, saying that he had "pain in my heart".

"During the last five years I have lived some of the best moments of my professional life," he wrote to his 2.5 million followers. Fellaini, who spent six years at Manchester United before leaving for China in early 2019, added: "I am also so glad and honoured to have discovered China and its amazing culture.

"Many times I have told my family and friends that my China years (of course excluding the Covid-period, which was difficult for everybody) were among the best of my life." The highlight of Fellaini's time in China was an eight-minute hat-trick, all headed goals, in a CSL match in 2020, having spent three weeks in a Chinese hospital weeks earlier with Covid.

Fellaini was part of an influx of well-known foreign players and coaches who moved to China on vast wages during the country's football boom. Those days are long gone and former Chelsea attacking midfielder Oscar is now the only player remaining in China from those heady times.

Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes should be stripped of his captaincy according to former player Roy Keane, who blasted the Portuguese international after the squad's 3-0 loss to Manchester City in Sunday's derby at Old Trafford.

"What I saw today, I would take the captaincy off Fernandes. He is not captain material," Keane said on Sky Sports. "He's whinging, he's moaning. "I would start with that because the manager can control that. He is the opposite to what I would want as a captain."

Keane, a former United captain, echoed Gary Neville's thoughts on Fernandes after the side's 7-0 thrashing at Liverpool last season, their heaviest loss since 1931.

Fernandes grew increasingly frustrated during that game in March, waving his arms wildly, falling theatrically and gesturing to manager Erik ten Hag to sub him off.

"I think some of his behaviour in the second half has been a disgrace," Neville, also a former captain at United, said that night. "(United) have not been epitomised more than Bruno Fernandes, who has been embarrassing -- a shambles -- in this game."

Fernandes was made captain last summer after Harry Maguire was stripped of the role. "Today having watched him again I would take the captaincy off him 100%," Keane said on Sunday. "I know it's a big decision, obviously they changed the captaincy with Maguire, but Fernandes is not captain material.

Football: Man United's Carlos Casimiro will miss trip to Fulham due to injury, says Erik Ten Hag

The Champions League group stage has reached the business end as teams are scrambling for a spot in the knockout stage. Tuesday and Wednesday proved to be crucial for teams across Europe as giants like Manchester City and Real Madrid punched their tickets to the knockout stage. However, teams like Manchester United and Newcastle United are struggling to reach the knockouts with just one match to go in the Champions League Round of 16.

<h2>How can Manchester United reach R16?</h2>

Currently bottom of the four-team group standings, United need a miracle of sorts to reach the R16 with them on four points from five matches. Bayern Munich are top of the table with 13 points in five matches and have already won Group A. Copenhagen and Galatasaray are second and third respectively with five points each. Interestingly, both Copenhagen and Galatasaray meet on the final Matchday while United host Harry Kane-inspired Bayern Munich at Old Trafford in two weeks.

United’s only equation of reaching the R16 is simple, they must beat Bayern Munich at Old Trafford on Tuesday (Dec 12).

<h2>What Newcastle need to do to reach R16?</h2>

Newcastle United would have needed a win on the final day against AC Milan to reach the Champions League R16, only for their fate to be hanged in balance after a controversial draw against Paris Saint-Germain. The 1-1 draw for Newcastle means they are third in the Group F standings with five points. Borussia Dortmund have already qualified for the knockouts, meaning three teams will scramble for a place in the R16.

Dortmund with 10 points in five matches are top of the charts while PSG are second with seven points. Both Newcastle and AC Milan are separated by goal difference and have five points each.

Newcastle’s encounter against AC Milan at St. James’ Park is a must-win and failing to win will see them wave goodbye to the competition. Even a draw will see elimination for Newcastle along with AC Milan as they will both fail to leapfrog PSG on seven points. A win for Newcastle and a draw or a defeat for PSG will be the only equation that could see the Magpies reach the knockouts.&nbsp;

Explained: How Manchester United, Newcastle could qualify for Champions League R16

Manchester United chief executive Richard Arnold is set to leave the Premier League club, with British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe on the brink of buying a 25 per cent stake, reports said Wednesday (Nov 15). Arnold, 52, replaced Ed Woodward as United's top executive in February last year.

Ratcliffe's INEOS Group is expected to pay about $1.56 billion (£1.25 billion)&nbsp;for a minority stake in the Old Trafford club, while also acquiring significant control over footballing operations. The BBC said the deal was expected to be ratified during the current international break, possibly as early as this week.

Arnold oversaw the appointment of current manager Erik ten Hag in 2022, who last season ended the club's six-year trophy drought. But United have had a disappointing start to the 2023/24 campaign, losing nine of their first 18 games in all competitions.

The Glazer family announced in November 2022 that they were considering "strategic alternatives" to help the club grow, which included consideration of a sale. Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani and Ratcliffe made offers in the region of £5 billion for a complete takeover, but that fell short of the Glazer family's valuation.

Sheikh Jassim withdrew from the process last month, while Ratcliffe continued to pursue a minority shareholding. Ratcliffe, 71, who tried to buy Chelsea last year, grew up in the Manchester region and describes himself as a lifelong fan of United.

The deal is likely to lead to a major shake-up of United's football operations. Dave Brailsford, the former performance director of British Cycling, is expected to have significant influence in his role as INEOS's director of sport.

Premier League: Manchester United chief Richard Arnold set to leave club

Manchester United’s Champions League season is on the brink of collapse after their 3-3 draw against Turkish giants Galatasaray in Istanbul on Wednesday (Nov 29) evening. Despite having a two-goal lead in the match twice, United were made to pay big time after errors from goalkeeper Andre Onana. The result also means, United are bottom of the four-team group with one match to go and will exit the competition if they fail to win on Matchday 6 against Bayern Munich.

<h2>Onana mistake costs United</h2>

In the 61st minute of the contest, United were defending a free kick from former Chelsea man Hakim Ziyech. With everyone behind to defend, Ziyech’s ball was no surprise for the defence as they left it with Onana to deal on an awkward bounce. However, the Cameroonian shotstopper fumbled the ball and directed the ball into his own net. This trimmed United’s lead from 3-1 to 3-2 as they faced a nervous final 30 minutes.

Earlier in the 28th minute, Onana was at fault when he failed to judge the flight of Ziyech’s freekick as the Turkish side came back from 2-0 down. Both errors proved costly in the overall outcome of the match as the match ended in a 3-3 draw with Kerem Akturkoglu coming off the bench to score with a sublime screamer.

Erik ten Hag accepts responsibility for Manchester United's DREADFUL Champions League run

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag insisted his side are going in the right direction despite a 3-3 draw at Galatasaray on Wednesday (Nov 29) that leaves the Red Devils on the brink of Champions League elimination.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag insisted his side are going in the right direction despite a 3-3 draw at Galatasaray on Wednesday (Nov 29) that leaves the Red Devils on the brink of Champions League elimination. United twice let a two-goal lead slip in Istanbul as costly errors from goalkeeper Andre Onana and poor finishing left them still bottom of Group A. Ten Hag's side need to beat Bayern Munich in their final match at Old Trafford to have any chance of qualifying. But even victory over the German champions will not be enough if Galatasaray beat FC Copenhagen in two weeks' time or the Danish champions take at least four points from their final two matches. "We are going in the right direction so I know we will be successful in the long-term but if you want to stay in the Champions League you need to win these games," said Ten Hag. "I was pleased with how we played but at the same time I have to criticise the team because the defending is not good enough. We are leading 3-1 and we cannot afford mistakes as it makes a difference." A huge banner unfurled before kick-off said "Welcome to Hell" but the vociferous Galatasaray crowd were silenced by two United goals inside 20 minutes. Alejandro Garnacho scored one of the all-time great Premier League goals with a stunning overhead kick to put United on course to victory at Everton on Sunday. The Argentine's opener was less spectacular but still impressive as he rifled into the roof of the net from Bruno Fernandes' pass. Fernandes then produced a powerful, dipping strike from outside the box that left Fernando Muslera helpless. United's five Champions League games this season have produced 26 goals. And failing to hold onto leads has been a recurring failing from Ten Hag's side. Twice Galatasaray came from behind at Old Trafford to secure their first Champions League away win for 10 years and they opened the door to the Turkish giants once more. Onana wrong-footed Fernandes was guilty of conceding a needless free-kick on the edge of his own box. But Onana must bear the bulk of the blame as he was too easily wrong-footed by his former Ajax teammate Hakim Ziyech, who fired into the bottom corner. United looked to have restored order at the start of the second period when Scott McTominay regained their two-goal cushion. Fernandes led a clinical counter-attack as he fed Aaron Wan-Bissaka down the right and his cross picked out McTominay to slide in his first Champions League goal. However, United were again pegged back by another glaring error from their goalkeeper. Onana earned his move to the Premier League off the back of excelling for Inter Milan on their run to last season's Champions League final. But the Cameroonian has repeatedly made errors for the Red Devils in Europe and Ziyech's second was arguably the worst of the lot. The Moroccan's free-kick was straight at Onana, who only conspired to punch the ball into his own net. To rub salt into United wounds, it inspired another Galatasaray fightback. Kerem Akturkoglu's perfect control and deadly accurate finish flew past Onana at his near post to level 19 minutes from time. United should still have emerged victorious as they picked the hosts off at will on the counter-attack but failed to take a raft of chances. Garnacho, McTominay and Facundo Pellestri all fired promising openings off target. Fernandes then struck the post with another wonderful strike from long range. "I think at the end of the game we had like four chances to score a goal," said Fernandes. "We have to put our heads up and sometimes it is about another pass, find the player that is free, trying to get the best one in the best position and not taking the chance ourselves." But United could also have lost and been mathematically eliminated on the night when Wilfried Zaha fired too close to Onana late on.

Manchester United on brink of another Champions League exit after Galatasaray fightback

Everton manager Sean Dyche said having referees leave the pitch to check incidents on VAR screens was a "farce" as they never go against the review system. Everton were trailing 1-0 to visitors Manchester United on Sunday when United's Anthony Martial went down in the box following an Ashley Young challenge.

Referee John Brooks initially booked Martial for simulation but changed his decision to a penalty for United after viewing a replay of the incident beside the pitch. Marcus Rashford doubled United's lead from the spot before the visitors went on to secure a 3-0 victory. "The screen thing is a farce," Dyche told reporters. "Everyone's talking about speeding the game up. And they go over to the screen and we all know what the outcome is.

"Good or bad decisions, just get on with it. Just call it, get on with the decision and we'll all move on. Why are they standing there staring at it? I haven't seen a referee overturn one yet." The match was Everton's first since they were handed a 10-point deduction for breaching Premier League profitability and sustainability rules, a sanction which dropped them into the relegation zone in 19th spot.

"It's currently a fact until they appeal, so therefore the mentality's got to be right," Dyche said. "We kept trying to get something from the game. Of course it's very difficult when the second and the third go in. But the mentality, we hit the bar, we kept creating chances.

"Fans were terrific. They are having their own say in what's going on," he added. "That connection with our fans is going to be really important going forward." Everton next visit Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Manchester United's Alejandro Garnacho scored a goal with an overhead kick against Everton on November 26 in Premier League, drawing comparisons with United legend Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo. The goal, scored in third minute of the match, has already been described as the 'goal of the season' by United manager Erik Ten Hag.

It had fans reminiscing about Rooney's sensational goal against arch-rivals Manchester City in 2011 as well as Ronaldo's famous bicycle kick effort for Real Madrid in 2018 against Juventus. Have a look at the video below:

Ten Hag, however, thinks it's not fair to compare Garnacho to Rooney or Ronaldo just yet and the youngster has to work very hard for it.

"Don't compare, I don't think it is right," said Ten Hag. "They all have their own identity, but for Garnacho to go that way he has a lot to come, he has to work very hard. You have to do it on a consistent basis and so far he has not."

The manager agreed that the 19-year-old has potential to do amazing things but he has to be consistent.

"But he definitely has high potential to do some amazing things, it's not the first time we saw this. We have already often seen glimpses, but if you want to be a player like Rooney or Ronaldo you have to score 20, 25 goals in the Premier League each season. That's not easy to get, you have to work hard, you have to go in areas where it hurts. So a lot to come. But potential, he has it."

The goal by Garnacho was first of three scored by the United during their 3-0 win. The result also saw them climb up to sixth place on the points table with 24 points after eight wins and five losses in 13 games. Marcus Rashford (56th minute by penalty) and Anthony Martial (72nd minute) were others to score for the United.

Manchester United are on the brink of an early exit from the Champions League after blowing a 2-0 lead to lose 4-3 on Wednesday to FC Copenhagen as Marcus Rashford was sent-off in the Danish capital.

Rasmus Hojlund looked to have come back to haunt his former club by scoring twice inside half an hour.

But Rashford's sending-off swung the destiny of the match and possibly sealed United's fate with a third defeat in four games in Group A.

Mohamed Elyounoussi and Diogo Goncalves levelled for Copenhagen before half-time.

Bruno Fernandes' penalty briefly put United back in front, but two goals in the final seven minutes from Lukas Lerager and 17-year-old Roony Bardghji handed Copenhagen their first Champions League win since 2016.

United sink to the bottom of the group, one point behind Galatasaray and Copenhagen, with two games left to play.

The Red Devils travel to Galatasaray in three weeks' time before hosting runaway group winners Bayern Munich.&nbsp;

Defeat will again ramp up the pressure on United boss Erik ten Hag after nine defeats in 17 games this season.

But the Dutchman will reflect on what might have been but for Rashford's dismissal after an excellent opening half an hour.

"We played very good until the red card. The red card changed everything. Then it becomes a different game," said Ten Hag.

"It is harsh decision. He was going for the ball."

Copenhagen boss Jacob Neestrup claimed United would be met with an atmosphere "100 times" more intense than his side faced at Old Trafford two weeks ago.

But the locals were quickly quieted by one of their own inside three minutes.

Hojlund is still to score his first Premier League goal since a £64 million ($78 million) move from Atalanta but is now the joint top scorer in the Champions League this season with five in four games.

He could not miss after being picked out by Scott McTominay at the back post for a tap in after a fine team move to open the scoring.

Hojlund was again in the right place for a simple finish to make it 2-0 after Kamil Grabara parried Alejandro Garnacho's initial effort.

<h2>Momentum swing</h2>

However, the momentum completely swung when Rashford's difficult season took another turn for the worse.

There appeared no malice from the England international, but his studs caught Elias Jelert on the ankle as he tried to protect the ball and, after a VAR review, he was shown red.

The 10 men failed to immediately settle and were punished as Elyounoussi turned in Goncalves' clever ball back across goal.

Thirteen minutes were added at the end of the first half due to an earlier delay caused by a medical emergency in the stands and United's lead did not survive until the break.

Andre Onana saved Jordan Larsson's penalty in the last action of the game in United's 1-0 win when the sides last met.

Goncalves had been withdrawn by that stage a fortnight ago, but he took responsibility from the spot and coolly sent Onana the wrong way.

The roles were reversed as VAR came to United's rescue in the second half to penalise a handball by Denis Vavro and Fernandes emphatically smashed home the resulting penalty.

The visitors, though, failed to hold out for a vital three points.

Diogo Dalot was caught napping as Lerager stole in at the far post to bundle the ball past Onana to give Copenhagen fresh hope.

Teenage substitute Bardghji then produced a fairytale finish for the hosts as he smashed a volley into the ground and beyond Onana after Harry Maguire failed to clear a cross into the box.

Exiled&nbsp;Manchester United forward Jadon Sancho has allegedly been removed from the WhatsApp group that manager Erik ten Hag uses to communicate with the players, according to multiple media reports.&nbsp;

Sancho is already banned from training with the first team or using any facilities, including the canteen&nbsp;at Carrington.&nbsp;Sancho being kicked out of the communication group suggests that the situation between him and Ten Hag had reached an impasse.&nbsp;

Sancho has barely kicked the ball this season and it looks highly unlikely that he will don the United jersey ever again if one goes by Ten Hag's comments and actions in recent times.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Last month, Sky Sports Germany claimed that&nbsp;Sancho was likely to leave the club in January during the winter transfer window. The report added that&nbsp;Sancho's most likely destination is expected to be his former club Borussia Dortmund whose head coach&nbsp;Edin Terzic has been in regular contact with the England international.&nbsp;

<h2>What happened with Sancho?</h2>

Sancho has been marginalised to the fringes and is currently training away from any competitive football after the former Borussia Dortmund player had a go at Ten Hag following the Dutch's comments on him.&nbsp;

Ten Hag had publically called out Sancho for his lack of intensity during the training. The statement came after the Dutch dropped Sancho from the game against Arsenal. Hours after Ten Hag's comments, Sancho released a social media post where he categorically denied the claims.&nbsp;

The youngster's statement, however, did not go down well with the former Ajax manager who made it clear that Sancho would only be integrated back with the squad, if he apologises.&nbsp;

Notably, United signed Sancho from Borussia Dortmund for a record fee of $100 million. At the time, Sancho was touted as one of the brightest stars on the horizon.&nbsp;

However, his failure to adjust to the pace of the league brought him excessive criticism from fans and critics alike. His fallout with Ten Hag might have been the final straw for his United career. experts argue.

Exiled Jadon Sancho removed from Manchester United WhatsApp group: Reports

Manchester United hit a new low on Wednesday (Nov 1) after they were defeated 3-0 by Newcastle United at Old Trafford in the League Cup. In spite of being graced by rich history and tradition, United have now lost eight of their 15 matches in all competitions, leaving them with their worst start to a campaign since 1962-63. Manager Erik ten Hag is now under the scanner after a poor start as United try to get through the torrid time.

<h2>Manchester United in the last 10 years</h2>

It has been 10 years since United last won the Premier League title when Sir Alex Ferguson led them to the record 20th title in English football. However, since Sir Alex’s retirement, the Red Devils have seen a deep form with the blue side of Manchester taking the tag of the biggest team in the land. To add further embarrassment to United’s woes, Manchester City have won the Premier League on six occasions since Sir Alex’s departure while they also imitated the latter’s biggest feat of winning a treble of Premier League, Champions League, and the FA Cup in one season.

<h2>Board issues</h2>

Frustration has been growing amongst the fans as United struggle to mount a realistic challenge on the field. Fans want the Glazers family out of the board who have owned the club since 2005 having purchased the majority shares at the club. The club was put on sale in 2022 with two key bidders Qatar's Sheikh Jassim and British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe of the INEOS Group leading the race. However, with no bidder matching the expected price by the Glazers family, the club’s sale has been dragged for a long time.

As things stand, Sir Jim Ratcliffe has bought 25 percent shares at the club and is expected to look at the administration on-field. His experience of handling the football side of things is expected to ease the pressure on the field. Ratcliffe currently owns French football club Nice which could come in handy for United’s board stability.

With board issues on offer, United’s issues are highlighted with their final position in the league table. Since 2014, United have finished outside the top four on five occasions and has seen them miss out on the Champions League football often. Interestingly, their defeat to City rivals Manchester City in Sunday’s derby has seen them slump to 34 Premier League losses since Sir Alex’s departure. It is the same number of Premier League matches he lost in 26 years in charge of the club.

<h2>Discipline issues</h2>

In August 2021, Manchester United brought back Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus, a move supposed to spark the revival of the club. United had finished second in the league in the previous season and were expected to challenge Manchester City for the title. However, poor form in the 2021-22 season saw them finish sixth and miss out on the Champions League. Ronaldo openly spoke on his issues with Ten Hag, resulting in his contract being terminated by the club.

The Ronaldo saga was the series start of the Ten Hag downfall despite United finishing in the top three in the 2022-23 season. At the start of the 2023-24 season, Jadon Sancho fell out of favour for a reported spat with the manager. The England winger was frozen out to the extent that he is currently not allowed to enter the first-team canteen. To make matters worse, United winger Antony was summoned by Brazilian police for violent conduct with a girlfriend. He was out of first-team action and the club had to release the statement in this case.

<h2>Poor recruitment</h2>

In the 2021 summer transfer window, United’s move for Ronaldo was supposed to spark their revival, but instead, it was one of the poor Premier League transfers of all time. The same window also saw them acquire Sancho, another player who is not featuring for the club. While not all signings work, the board has recruited a series of flops at the club which includes Angel de Maria, Alexis Sanchez, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, and others. They were also a victim of their own success as a club they got players who have passed their peak including Jonny Evans.

Ten Hag’s system has also been a huge issue for the club on the field as they try to play from the back but lack the kind of players needed. Andre Onana looks like a reflection of his own and has produced poor form on the field. Stripping Harry Maguire of the captaincy may have been a good decision, but Ten Hag may have made a move too early to stamp his authority on the club.

In the Premier League standings, at the time of writing United sat eighth in the table with 15 points. They have won five matches and lost five and alongside Manchester City remain the only team yet to draw a match in the current season. They have so far conceded 16 goals and scored 11, which sees them occupy a negative goal difference.

Manchester United in the last 10 years It has been 10 years since United last won the Premier League title when Sir Alex Ferguson led them to the record 20th title in English football. Board issues Frustration has been growing amongst the fans as United struggle to mount a realistic challenge on the field. Defeat in the #CarabaoCup.#MUFC — Manchester United (@ManUtd) November 1, 2023 × With board issues on offer, United’s issues are highlighted with their final position in the league table. EXPLAINED | Why Manchester United are struggling under Erik ten Hag in 2023-24 season

Manchester United and England legend Bobby Charlton died after an accidental fall at a care home, an inquest was told on Wednesday.

Charlton, one of English football's all-time greats, passed away aged 86 in Macclesfield General Hospital on October 21.

The Cheshire Coroner's Court inquest into the 1966 World Cup winner's death revealed he lost his balance when he stood up from a chair, striking a window sill and "possibly a radiator"

Charlton was living in The Willows in Knutsford, a nursing home caring for patients with dementia, after he was diagnosed with the disease in 2020.

Staff performed a full-body check on Charlton, noted no visible injuries and initially found his mobility seemed unaffected.

But they later saw swelling on his back and paramedics were called to take him to hospital.

Tests showed Charlton had fractured his ribs and was likely to develop pneumonia, with doctors deciding he should be put on end-of-life care before his death five days later.

It was heard that Charlton was "unsteady on his feet, especially when standing from a seated position" as a result of his living with dementia.

A survivor of the 1958 Munich air crash which killed eight of his United team-mates, Charlton helped his team win two league titles and their first European Cup in 1968.

He played 758 games and scored 249 goals for United between 1956 and 1973.

His goal tally stood as a club record until 2017 when Wayne Rooney became United's all-time top goalscorer.

Charlton's life will be celebrated in a memorial service at Manchester Cathedral on November 13.

The procession to the service will pass by Old Trafford, where he is immortalised alongside Denis Law and George Best in the 'United Trinity' statue.

Flowers, scarves, shirts and messages have been left at the statue in tribute to Charlton since his death.

Football: Inquest reveals Manchester United legend Bobby Charlton died after accidental fall

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has made a stunning admission that his team will never play the style of football that he implemented during his previous 'successful' stint at Ajax.&nbsp;

Ten Hag's statement comes after his side were humbled in the Manchester derby by cross-city rivals. The defeat raised questions over Ten Hag's playing philosophy which has been seemingly non-existent during his time at Old Trafford.&nbsp;

"Never. We will never play that football. Because those were different players. This is also not why I came here," said Ten Hag.&nbsp;

"That is not in the DNA of Manchester United at all. The football at Ajax is very typical, here we will play much more directly. We also have the players for that, especially at the forefront," he added.

<h2>Ajax's impressive run&nbsp;</h2>

Despite being at the club for more than a year and having spent hundreds of millions of dollars&nbsp;on player transfers, United are far from having a cogent playing style. The team is unable to depict a set pattern of play, something which Ten Hag's compatriots like Ange Postecoglou, Unai Emery and Roberto De Zerbi have displayed, despite taking&nbsp;charge of their respective teams much later.&nbsp;

Under Ten Hag, Ajax became one of the top European teams and went toe-to-toe with top teams in the continental competitions. Ajax's 2018-19 Champions League run is still remembered vividly by football purists.

The team thrashed the likes of Juventus and Real Madrid and nearly qualified for the finals before stumbling in the final seconds of the semifinal second leg against Tottenham Hotspur.&nbsp;

Apart from UCL, Ten Hag won three Eredivisie titles and&nbsp;two KNVB Cups with the Ajax team which is now in a relegation battle, following his departure.&nbsp;

At Ajax, Ten Hag played possession-based football with quick, incisive passing in the final third. The likes of Matthijs de Ligt, Frenkie de Jong, Donny van de Beek, Andre Onana&nbsp;and Hakim Ziyech played their best football under him. However, since moving to different clubs, very few have hit the highs of their Ajax days.&nbsp;

Premier League champions Manchester City crushed arch-rivals Manchester United 3-0 at Old Trafford on Sunday (Oct 29) as they continued to climb the ladder. The win at Old Trafford is City’s biggest win at Old Trafford since March 2014 as United’s dodgy season continued with their fifth defeat of the season. Erling Haaland’s goals on either side of the break along with Phil Foden were enough for Pep Gaurdiola’s men to take the third spot in the league on goals scored.

<h2>City rock United in derby</h2>

The 191st Manchester derby saw both sides enter positive results in the Champions League, but it was City who stamped their authority over the contest. In the 26th minute of the match, Rasmus Hojlund was caught by the eagle eye of referee Paul Tierney when he brought down Rodri. The referee was asked to consult the pitch-side monitor by VAR, upon which the penalty was confirmed. Steeped in Haaland as he made no mistake in sending the United goalkeeper wrong side to give City a 1-0 lead. They would continue to hold to the lead until halftime.

After the break, City doubled their lead five minutes into the second half with Bernardo Silva serving Haaland an easy header at the far post. There was no way back for United in the second half as the onslaught continued with City on consistent press. United had two decent chances after the break but saw Marcus Rashford come out second best as Edernson denied United a clear sight of goal.

Phil Foden then added the final touch to glory with the third goal as City registered another win under Pep at Old Trafford. He now has five wins as opposition manager at Old Trafford, more than any other manager in the Premier League’s history.

City next take on Bournemouth in the Premier League on Saturday before playing Young Boys in the return leg of the Champions League. United on the other hand take on Newcastle United in the League Cup as they try to bounce back from the defeat.

Premier League: Erling Haaland-inspired Man City crush United in derby; record biggest away win in nine years

Andre Onana's last-gasp penalty save secured a vital Champions League win for Manchester United against FC Copenhagen on Tuesday, while Jude Bellingham scored again for Real Madrid in their victory over Braga.

Elsewhere, Arsenal beat Sevilla in the rain in Spain and Harry Kane was on target as Bayern Munich won a tough assignment against Galatasaray.

Before kick-off at Old Trafford, United held a minute's silence in memory of Bobby Charlton after the Red Devils legend died on Saturday at the age of 86.

They marked the occasion by claiming their first points in Group A as Harry Maguire's 72nd-minute header secured a 1-0 win.

The result keeps alive their chances of advancing to the last 16 but they needed Onana to produce a brilliant save from Jordan Larsson's 97th-minute penalty to see the game out.

The spot-kick was awarded when Scott McTominay caught Mohamed Elyounoussi as he tried to hook a ball clear in the box, but Larsson -- whose father Henrik briefly played for United in 2007 -- could not convert the chance.

"It is incredible and a great night. Especially in the dying second when you concede a penalty, but a brilliant save from Andre Onana," coach Erik ten Hag told broadcaster TNT Sports.

<h2>- Kane nets in Bayern win -</h2>

United are now back in contention to qualify but Bayern look set to run away with the group after making it three wins out of three with a 3-1 victory in Istanbul.

Kingsley Coman's early opener for the German champions was cancelled out by a Mauro Icardi penalty on the half-hour mark.

But Bayern pulled away in the second half, with Kane finishing in the 73rd minute to restore the visitors' lead with his 11th goal in 12 games for his new club.

He then set up Jamal Musiala to wrap up the win.

Bayern have now won 16 consecutive matches in the Champions League group phase and have not lost at this stage in over six years.

"I don't know how many group stage matches I've done as a coach, but it's always super difficult -- so it's great to find ourselves with nine points after three matches," said Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel.

<h2>- 200 up for Ancelotti -</h2>

Madrid, the record 14-time European champions, also have three wins out of three in Group C after Rodrygo and Bellingham scored in a 2-1 victory over Braga in Portugal.

Real coach Carlo Ancelotti was taking charge of his 200th game in the competition and he saw Rodrygo open the scoring on 16 minutes before Bellingham fired in just past the hour mark.

It was the England midfielder's third goal in as many Champions League games for his new club, and his 11th in 12 matches altogether since signing from Borussia Dortmund.

Alvaro Djalo pulled one back for Braga, but Real can secure qualification for the last 16 when they host the Portuguese side next.

Napoli are second in the group after a 1-0 win at Union Berlin, who are still without a point.

Giacomo Raspadori scored the only goal in the second half as the Italian champions won without star striker Victor Osimhen.

<h2>- Arsenal win in Seville -</h2>

In Group B, Arsenal bounced back from losing 2-1 to Lens in France in their last game as they beat Sevilla by the same scoreline on a sodden surface at the Sanchez Pizjuan.

Gabriel Martinelli ran clear to open the scoring in first-half stoppage time and a fantastic strike by Gabriel Jesus made it two.

Nemanja Gudelj pulled one back for Sevilla but last season's Europa League winners have won just twice in 13 games in this campaign.

"There are not many teams to have won here in the last ten years in Europe and we've done it," Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta told TNT Sports.

Lens are second, a point behind Arsenal, after coming from behind to draw 1-1 at home to PSV Eindhoven with Elye Wahi cancelling out Johan Bakayoko's opener.

Last season's beaten finalists Inter Milan are joint top of Group D with seven points after defeating Red Bull Salzburg 2-1 at San Siro.

Hakan Calhanoglu’s second-half penalty won it for Inter after Alexis Sanchez's opener was cancelled out by young Israeli Oscar Gloukh.

Real Sociedad are level with Inter thanks to a 1-0 win over Benfica in Lisbon secured by a Brais Mendez goal.

Benfica are still without a point and staring at an early exit.

“Manchester United are in mourning following the passing of Sir Bobby Charlton, one of the greatest and most beloved players in the history of our club. A graduate of Manchester United’s famous youth academy, Sir Bobby played 758 games and scored 249 goals during 17 years as a Manchester United player, winning the European Cup, three league titles, and the FA Cup. For England, he won 106 caps and scored 49 goals, and won the 1966 World Cup.
