Premier League: Manchester United to part ways with Jadon Sancho despite successful Dortmund spell - Report

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag said he was happy to see Jadon Sancho, who is on loan from United at Borussia Dortmund, thrive. The 24-year-old winger produced a fine performance in Dortmund's 1-0 win in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final against Paris St Germain on Wednesday (May 1).

The 24-year-old winger produced a fine performance in Dortmund's 1-0 win in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final against Paris St Germain on Wednesday (May 1). The England international joined United from Dortmund for 85 million euros ($90.87 million) in August 2021, signing a five-year deal, but he failed to hold down a regular spot and returned to Germany after becoming embroiled in a row with Ten Hag. "So let's say this: yesterday he played very good and he's a very good player. Yesterday he showed why Man United bought him and he showed he represents a high value for Man United, which is good," Ten Hag said. "I'm happy for Jadon, for the performance yesterday, and we'll see what is going to happen in the future." Also read | UCL: Dortmund coach Edin Terzic hails 'Big stage' player Jadon Sancho for win over PSG in first leg 'Work to do' As for United, Ten Hag said they had work to do in the transfer market in the summer transfer window if the team was to get back to its best. United are sixth in the Premier League standings with 54 points, 13 fewer than fourth-placed Aston Villa and six below Tottenham Hotspur in fifth place. The Old Trafford side have four matches left in the league season. Ten Hag flagged that United had suffered an alarming number of injuries, but they would still need new recruits after falling short of expectations. "(There's) always a lot of work, it's normal when you go into a transfer window, but the injuries had a big impact," Ten Hag told reporters ahead of Monday's Premier League clash at 14th-placed Crystal Palace. "We know also we are still below the levels from the expectations Man United has so we have to catch up and I'm now going into my fifth window — two windows quite okay, two we missed — so we have to make new improvements to the squad. "But here is a base of this squad that is very good." Midfielder Bruno Fernandes is a doubt for the trip to Selhurst Park, while forward Marcus Rashford's availability is still unclear. Rashford picked up an injury in the FA Cup semi-final against Championship side Coventry City, which United won on penalties after surrendering a 3-0 lead at Wembley. The forward, 26, has since missed the games against Sheffield United and Burnley. "Scott (McTominay) didn't train so far this week but I expect him back in training on Saturday and we have to see if he's 100% available or for a part of the game," the Dutchman said. "After the game (Burnley), we had an issue with Bruno. He is a doubt for Monday. We all know Bruno, never rule him out for any game. He will do his best to be available. "Jonny (Evans) returned today for team training. Tomorrow we are off and then two days until the game. (Anthony) Martial was partly in team training. "I can't tell (about Rashford). His issue hasn't healed so far."

'He showed why we bought him': Man Utd boss Ten Hag praises Jadon Sancho after UCL heroics

Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes has said that he will consider his future at the club but not before Euro 2024, to be held in Germany. The Portugal star and United captain has insisted that he is fully focused on the English club's FA Cup final, where they take on Manchester City on May 25 and then on the Euros.&nbsp;Amid speculation of him parting ways with United, when asked about his future, the 29-year-old Fernandes told Dazn Portugal, "I don't have thoughts for other things at the moment. It doesn't just depend on me."&nbsp;

Fernandes said, "So, if you want me to be very honest, if I have to think about not continuing in the Premier League, it won't be until after the Euros."

"We can end the season by winning the FA Cup, then we have the European Championship, which is very important for us," the United captain further opined.

Fernandes -- who has won just one trophy (i.e. the the Carabao Cup last season) since being part of United in 2020 -- further added, "Nothing will take my focus away from this end of the championship, the FA Cup and the European Championship. There is nothing more important than that at the moment."

The star midfielder further revealed that he feels wanted at the Old Trafford club. In this regard, he added, "A player always has to want to be here, but at the same time, you have to want him to stay. At the moment, I feel there's that on both sides."

"I'm not thinking too much about the future, not least because, obviously, this season hasn't been at the level I'd hoped for, either individually or collectively, so far," he concluded.

Fernandes-led United, who couldn't even ensure a top-four finish in the Premier League, will face Manchester City in the FA Cup final at the Wembley Stadium, London later this month. After this, the 29-year-old will join the Portugal squad for the forthcoming Euros.

Bruno Fernandes to consider future with Manchester United after Euro 2024

Manchester United are not expecting any offers for star striker Marcus Rashford in the summers, believing there is no market for the player this summer. Notably, the Red Devils -- who have no chance left of finishing in the top four in the Premier League -- didn't see the best of Rashford this season, where he has scored seven PL goals -- 10 less than he managed in 2022-23.

Talking about the club's financial position means that they would consider bids of $87.8 million for Rashford if they were received, however, they are not expecting any team to come at par with the valuation. In addition, as per a report in ESPN, United are not actively looking to offload the Englishman. There is a feeling at Old Trafford that only the French club Paris Saint Germain (PSG) can meet United's valuation for Rashford, however, the Erik Ten Hag-led side&nbsp;has&nbsp;been made aware that he is not on their list of priorities to replace Kylian Mbappé this summer. Mbappé is likely to join Real Madrid at the end of the season.

Speaking of Rashford, he has not had the best of runs this season. The English striker has been a pale shadow of himself, especially his glorious run in 2022-23, with only 7 goals in the PL season. He was also involved in the Belfast clubbing controversy, early this year.&nbsp;

Rashford's exit would boost United's finances because, as an academy graduate, the fee would represent pure profit on the books and assist the famed club to stay within profit and sustainability rules (PSR). Another&nbsp;academy graduate, Mason Greenwood, is also in line to depart this summer with the club seeking a permanent deal for the youngster.

Greenwood has netted as many as 10 goals on loan at Getafe this season. However, it is&nbsp;unlikely the Spanish team will be able to fund a permanent transfer.&nbsp;

Premier League: Man Utd manager Erik ten Hag asks for 'patience and time' after missing out on CL berth

Premier League (PL) side Manchester United's forward Marcus Rashford has called out the criticism directed towards him in the ongoing season as abuse. Rashford hasn't been in best of&nbsp;form this season, scoring just seven goals in 26 games he has played.

Overall, Rashford has scored just eight goals in 40 games in the ongoing year. Notably, he had signed a new contract to stay with the side for three more years earlier in the summer. Rashford's comments came as a reply to a post on the social media handle X&nbsp;criticising&nbsp;the treatment to Rashford as cruel.

The 26-year-old England international, in reply, wrote: "It is abuse and has been for months. Enough is enough."

Rashford, however, isn't having the best of the season both on and off the field. He was benched by manager Erik ten Hag for two games after a poor outing during Manchester United's 1-0 defeat against Newcastle in December.

In November, his birthday celebration after a humiliating 3-0 defeat against arch-rivals Manchester City was termed unacceptable by the Dutch manager.

In January too, he was reprimanded by Ten Hag for missing a practice ahead of FA Cup fixture against Newport County. He had missed the training because of his trip to a nightclub in Belfast, Northern Ireland a night before.

Currently, Rashford is out with injury he had suffered during the win over Coventry in FA Cup semifinal. He had also missed the match against Sheffield United on Wednesday (Apr 24) which Manchester had won 4-2.

Manchester United are sixth on the points table with 16 wins, five draws and 12 losses from 33 games played. They still have five more games left in the season and make a push for top four to get a place in next year's Champions League.

Premier League: 'It is abuse,' Manchester United's Rashford hits out at criticism

Liverpool's Premier League title bid suffered a devastating blow in a 2-0 defeat at Merseyside rivals Everton, while Manchester United spared Erik ten Hag's blushes with a 4-2 victory against lowly Sheffield United on Wednesday. Jurgen Klopp's side were beaten at Goodison Park for the first time in 14 years in a brutal setback to their hopes of catching leaders Arsenal.

Jarrad Branthwaite put Everton ahead in the 27th minute as the defender prodded the ball under Liverpool keeper Alisson Becker via the post after the Reds made a hash of clearing a free-kick. With Liverpool's Mohamed Salah once again struggling to convert chances to equalise, Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin delivered the knockout punch with a 58th-minute header.

Second-placed Liverpool remain three points behind Arsenal, who have a vastly superior goal difference, with both sides having four games left. Third-placed Manchester City, who visit Brighton on Saturday, will be crowned English champions for an unprecedented fourth successive season if they win their last six matches.

Liverpool have reportedly opened talks with Feyenoord's Arne Slot to take over from Klopp, whose long goodbye looks set to end with a whimper. It hardly the scenario Klopp envisioned when Liverpool beat Chelsea in the League Cup final in February. Back then, his team were in contention for a quadruple that would have capped his final season in spectacular fashion.

Instead, the end of Klopp's nine-year reign is becoming a damp squib, with Liverpool knocked out of the FA Cup quarter-finals by Manchester United and losing to Atalanta at the same stage of the Europa League as their title challenge evaporates.

"Arsenal and Manchester City must have a very bad moment," Klopp said when asked if Liverpool can win the title. "I don't know. I can only apologise for today to the people. We should have done better but we didn't."

At Old Trafford, Ten Hag's side twice trailed to the league's bottom club before Bruno Fernandes came to his beleaguered manager's aid in the second half.

Jayden Bogle put the Blades ahead and although Harry Maguire equalised before half-time, Ben Brereton Diaz restored the visitors' advantage soon after the interval.

<h2>- Fernandes to the rescue -</h2>

Fernandes bailed out Ten Hag with a penalty equaliser before the Portugal midfielder's long-range rocket put United in front with nine minutes left. Rasmus Hojlund got United's fourth to ensure they could finally enjoy a first league win in five games since beating Everton on March 9.

It was a temporary reprieve for Ten Hag, who hopes to salvage sixth-placed United's dismal season by winning the FA Cup and finishing high enough to qualify for the Europa League. Ten Hag endured stinging criticism after United stumbled into the FA Cup final with a spluttering penalty-shootout win after blowing a three-goal lead against second-tier Coventry on Sunday.

"I think we played quite well, also creating many more chances. Many positives. But also negatives. Conceding two goals from giveaways. It's unacceptable. We want to play dynamic, attacking football," Ten Hag said.

Referee Stuart Attwell was embroiled in further controversy after contentiously disallowing a Wolves goal in Bournemouth's 1-0 win at Molineux. Attwell was already in the spotlight for his role as VAR in denying Nottingham Forest three penalties in Sunday's 2-0 defeat at Everton, which led Forest to insinuate bias as he supports relegation rivals Luton.

This time, he adjudged Matheus Cunha to have fouled Justin Kluivert in an off-the-ball incident in the build up to Hwang Hee-chan's second-half equaliser, which looked to have cancelled out Antoine Semenyo's opener. Attwell remained in the thick of the action as he showed a straight red card to Bournemouth defender Milos Kerkez for a foul on Matt Doherty.

Jean-Philippe Mateta scored for a fifth consecutive home match to fire Crystal Palace to a 2-0 win over Newcastle. Mateta broke the deadlock in the 55th minute and added the second late on to end Newcastle's four-match unbeaten run and damage their prospects of qualifying for Europe.

Premier League: Liverpool's title bid rocked by Everton, Manchester United survive Blades scare

Liverpool are all set to follow in the footsteps of their arch-rivals Manchester United as they look to appoint a new manager&nbsp;at the helm&nbsp;for the 2024-25 season. With current manager Jurgen Klopp set to leave at the end of the season, the 19-time English champions have set their sights on Arne Slot, current Feyenoord manager. It is reported that Liverpool have opened negotiations with&nbsp;Feyenoord and have made formal contact with the Dutchman for a move to England's top flight.

<h2>Arne Slot to Liverpool?</h2>

According to several reports in the Dutch and English media, Slot remains one of the tempting options Liverpool are keeping tabs on&nbsp;at the moment.&nbsp;This&nbsp;comes a week after the Reds&nbsp;were linked&nbsp;with Ruben Amiron, current Sporting Lisbon manager. Slot&nbsp;is considered&nbsp; as&nbsp;a good candidate&nbsp;having&nbsp;impressed while working at the Rotterdam-based club. Under his guidance, Feyenoord won the 202-23 Eredivisie title while also taking home the KNVB Cup in the 2023-24 season.&nbsp;

Slot was close to winning a European Trophy with Feyenoord,&nbsp;having finished&nbsp;runners-up to AS Roma in the Europa Conference League in the 2021-22 season.&nbsp;

As things stand, Liverpool will have big shoes to fill in the summer when they&nbsp;decide to&nbsp; announce their successor to Klopp. Current Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso was the prime target to replace Klopp, but he has now committed his future to the club, ruling out a return.&nbsp;

Liverpool to follow Manchester United’s footsteps, consider THIS Dutch manager to replace Jurgen Klopp

Erik ten Hag has hit out at media criticism of Manchester United's FA Cup semifinal win over Coventry City, calling it&nbsp;"embarrassing" and a "disgrace".&nbsp;

The United team came under scrutiny despite advancing to the final after blowing away a 3-0 lead before a controversial VAR call bailed them out. Ten Hag was intensely scrutinised by the media as United once again failed to play a convincing brand of football.

Quizzed if he was able to understand the negative reaction towards him and the team, the Dutch manager said:&nbsp;"No, absolutely not."

"One question was: "Is it embarrassing? No, the reaction from you [the media] was embarrassing," said Ten Hag.&nbsp;

"Top football is about results, we made it to a final and we deserved it, not only by this game but also the other games. We lost control for 20 minutes, we also had bad luck. We were very lucky in the end, it is clear," he added.&nbsp;

<h2>Comments are disgrace&nbsp;</h2>

The United gaffer once again made it clear that reaching a second cup final in as many years with man injury-ravaged United was not a mean feat.&nbsp;

"We made it to the final, it is a huge achievement. Twice in two years is magnificent. For me as a manager, four cup finals in four years. The comments are a disgrace."

Ten Hag also reprimanded Antony who celebrated mockingly in front of the Coventry City players after United won on penalties.&nbsp;

“He was [provoked] and should not react like this,” Ten Hag said. “You have not seen the provocation, only the reaction, but he should not do it.

Rattled Erik ten Hag beefs with 'embarrasing' media after Man United's FA Cup win

Jose Mourinho has revealed that Manchester United still have players in the squad that "he didn't want five or six years ago", during his tenure at Old Trafford. Mourinho admitted these players didn't have the best professional profile and that their presence had impeded United's growth over the years.&nbsp;

Mourinho&nbsp;was sacked after a tumultuous two-and-a-half-year stay with United where he won the Europa League and Carabao Cup. Till the time of his sacking, Mourinho maintained that certain players did not deserve to don the United jersey.&nbsp;&nbsp;

"There are still a couple of players still there I didn't want five or six years ago. I think they represent a little bit of what I consider not the best professional profile for a club of a certain dimension," said Mourinho, without explicitly mentioning the names.&nbsp;

Bayern Munich’s outgoing manager&nbsp;Thomas&nbsp;Tuchel&nbsp;has&nbsp;set his sights on a return to the Premier League (PL) as he prepares for his next move. Tuchel, who previously managed Premier League giants Chelsea, will&nbsp;be a free agent in the summer&nbsp;with&nbsp;Bayern announcing his departure&nbsp;back&nbsp;in February for a poor set of results. PL clubs like Manchester United, Liverpool and West Ham are keeping close eyes on him despite strong interest from Barcelona for the German gaffer.

<h2>Tuchel back to Premier League?</h2>

According to ESPN, Tuchel already has several offers on his table&nbsp;including&nbsp;strong&nbsp;links to Barcelona, who also have vacancy at their helm. However, the 50-year-old is holding for a move to England as there could be some&nbsp;big&nbsp;and shocking vacancies at Premier League clubs. Manchester United and Chelsea are exploring options to get a new manager&nbsp;while&nbsp;West Ham United gaffer David Moyes is yet to sign a new deal, leaving&nbsp;another proposed option.

However, it is unlikely that Tuchel will move to West Ham with Barcelona as a big-club option. The Catalonians are already preparing for life without Xavi Hernandez&nbsp;who&nbsp;will leave the club in summer. Rafael Marquez and Hansi Flick remain options to replace Xavi, but Tuchel remains the favourite.

Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel eyes Premier League return despite Barcelona links - Report

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has lamented that he never had a fully-fit squad available at his disposal in the last 18 months and that it may have affected the overall performance.

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has lamented that he never had a fully-fit squad available at his disposal in the last 18 months and that it may have affected the overall performance. Ten Hag's statement came ahead of the crucial FA Cup semifinal clash against Coventry City at Wembley on Sunday (Apr 21). Ten Hag took over as the United boss in the summer of 2022, replacing Austrian Ralf Ragnick, but the performance of the team has remained highly inconsistent during his tenure. "I don't have any concern [about what is said on the outside]. What concerns me is that in 18 months I have never had my favourite team on the pitch, that concerns me, because players are injured," Ten Hag said at a news conference. "One time, against City at home last season -- that is the only time I had a full squad where I can pick my team. In all the other games always there was an injury aspect we have to deal with." The former Ajax manager took a sly dig at the pundits and said results could not be delivered with the plethora of injuries he has had to face. "That is normal in football but not so many as we have had, and I know when you have so many injuries as we have had in crucial key positions you can't deliver the results you want to bring." Also read | 'It's unacceptable...': United manager Erik Ten Hag unimpressed after performance against Leeds I do not care: Ten Hag Notably, Ten Hag's job has been under immense scrutiny due to the string of poor performances the team has conjured under him. The Dutch manager won the Carabao Cup last year but United's overall gameplay has remained highly chaotic since then. Last month, Ten Hag said he did not 'care' about the murmurs surrounding his job, with England manager Gareth Southgate being touted to replace him. "You [the media] like it to talk about [speculation], but of course, we have different interests, but we are not focusing on that. We are focusing on the process to make the team play better, to improve the way of playing,” Ten Hag added. "So yes, I do not care about it." A defeat against Coventry City would certainly mean the end of the road for Ten Hag as new owner, Jim Ratcliffe attempts to impose his authority on the club.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola was not a happy man after his team marched into yet another FA Cup final on Saturday (Apr 20), after a tense win over Chelsea.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola was not a happy man after his team marched into yet another FA Cup final on Saturday (Apr 20), after a tense win over Chelsea. Guardiola slammed the scheduling of the match, three days after City's treble bid was ended by Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinal. City came on top against Chelsea after a late goal by Bernardo Silva settled the tie when it looked certain the match was heading towards another hectic 30-minute extra time. "It's unacceptable to let us play today. It's impossible, for the health of the players. It's not normal. It's unacceptable -- 120 minutes, the emotions of Madrid, the way we lose, honestly," Guardiola was quoted as saying by the BBC. "I know this country is special [with the FA Cup], but it's for the health of the players. I don't understand how we survived today," he added. Despite being the dominant side against Madrid, City were taken to the very end by the 14-time champions who eventually prevailed on penalties. The result of the physically and mentally draining match was visible on City players who could not get out off the first gear against Chelsea. Nicholas Jackson missed a couple of big chances that allowed Guardiola's men to enter the second successive FA Cup final. Also read | The greatest Champions League comebacks of all time The treble-winning manager pointed fingers at the other FA Cup fixture and asked why his team were not given the extra day to freshen themselves up. "The only power I have I say here. Why don't we play tomorrow? Chelsea, Manchester United, Coventry didn't play midweek," Guardiola said. "What they did today is one of the greatest things I have ever seen from a group of players after 120 minutes of football on Wednesday. I just want to protect my players. It's common sense. I'm not asking for something special or privilege." Arteta supports Guardiola Guardiola's comments were supported by his Arsenal counterpart Mikel Arteta whose team also had to play in the Premier League against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday after losing to Bayern Munich. "It's not about us, Pep or myself, it's about the well-being of the players. When you compete in European competition, every team has to compete in the same way," said Arteta when quizzed about his former boss's comments. Arteta's Arsenal looked laborious as well and only managed to ease through after Trossard scored late in the first half before captain Martin Odegaard put the tie to bed in the 90th minute. Legendary German midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger has revealed that Jose Mourinho banned him from the first-team dressing room when he was a player at Manchester United.&nbsp;

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has urged his players to be angry when they face arch-rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday (Apr 7) evening. The Merseyside Reds are currently challenging for the title while the hosts battle for the Champions League spot.&nbsp;

Ten Hag urging his troops to be angry stems from the agonising defeat against Chelsea where they conceded twice in the stoppage time to lose the game 3-4.&nbsp;

"We can play to a very high standard. We can compete with the best and beat the best in the Premier League. When you can do that, you can also do it across Europe. We need to learn how to bring big games over the line," said Ten Hag.

"We have to recover very quickly. We have to turn this around. We will be in a positive mood and we will be looking forward. We have to take energy but we will be mad, and angry. From anger, you can take a lot of energy and that is how we have to do it," he added.&nbsp;

United recently dumped Liverpool out of the FA Cup after scoring late in extra time to stun the 2022 champions who were gunning for an unprecedented quadruple. Ten Hag's men had a horrid game but Liverpool failing to take their chances allowed United to come back into the game.&nbsp;

The title race has been a three-horse race for the major part of the year. Both Manchester City and Arsenal collected three points from their weekend matches and attention now turns to Liverpool to do the same.&nbsp;

Liverpool are currently second in the points table, one point behind leaders Arsenal, having played a game less. A win against United would massively boost Liverpool's credentials but a loss or draw would be a huge dent.&nbsp;

Manchester United players urged to be ‘angry’ by Erik ten Hag to stop Liverpool’s title hunt

Manchester&nbsp;United&nbsp;coach Erik Ten Hag expressed frustration and blamed costly mistakes and poor decision-making for his side conceding two stoppage-time goals against Chelsea to lose 4-3 on Thursday. Ten Hag said his team deserved to win at Stamford Bridge, after rallying from a two-goal deficit with a brace from Alejandro Garnacho and a goal from Bruno Fernandes.

Individual errors, however, led them to defeat just a few days after his team conceded a last-gasp equaliser to Brentford in a 1-1 draw to move further away from a top-four Premier League finish. Man U now sits at sixth with 48 points.

"I had the feeling we were dominating the game, got ourselves into a winning position, scoring great goals," Ten Hag told reporters. "Then, in stoppage time, we didn't manage to win. Of course it's frustrating."

"We made individual errors that cost us the game. The players know their jobs and they didn't make the right decisions. We have to read when to keep the ball, to pass, move and switch the play when we are winning. "In five days we dropped five points. That is unacceptable. We gave away a game we should have won."

The Dutch manager said injury absences of key players have dampened his team's performance, but he is confident his players will step up on Sunday when they host leaders Liverpool.

"(Raphael) Varane, (Jonny) Evans, Also Casemiro we have to take off. That doesn't help. You need these types to show leadership and what to do," he said. "I don't know if they will play on Sunday. The team will be there on Sunday. They have character. They showed it today, fighting ourselves into the game."

Premier League: Erik Ten Hag blames poor decisions for Manchester United's 4-3 loss to Chelsea

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has lamented that his side gave away the match despite being on the precipice of a famous victory. The Red Devils went down 3-4 against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Thursday (Apr 4) that gave a major jolt to their top-4 ambitions.

United conceded twice in the stoppage time as Cole Palmer converted a penalty before a huge deflection via Scott McTominay allowed the former Manchester City player to complete his hattrick. "We had the game in our hands and we gave it away. It's frustrating. It's difficult to take. We had good control in the last few minutes. But they got two chances and scored two goals. From the corner, we have to be much quicker. We knew beforehand they take corners and throw-ins quickly," said Fernandes after the match. The midfielder admitted United were conceding too many shots on goal and that the focus now should be the crucial match against Liverpool on Sunday. "In the last games, we've conceded too many shots. It's about defending your box. It's a big game (on Sunday against Liverpool). I don't need to say anything (to my teammates). If I need to say anything it's a problem because this is a massive club." United vs Chelsea United started the game poorly as Chelsea raced to a two-goal advantage courtesy of tidy finishes from Conor Gallaher and Cole Palmer within the first 20 minutes. Having gone behind in front of a vociferous Stamford Bridge crowd, United were given a lucky break when Moises Caicedo gave away the ball high up the pitch, allowing Alejandro Garnacho to slot one past Petrovic. Within five minutes, Fernandes scored to equalise the game and head into halftime with the game finely poised. In the second half, Chelsea kept the lion's share of the possession but United struck on the counter yet again as Antony placed a perfect cross inside the six-yard box that was planted to the back of the net by Garnacho to secure a brace. However, that was to be the end of scoring for United who succumbed at the death. "Yes we started poor, kicking the ball away and defending poorly. But you saw we were dominating the game and it was brilliant how we played - we deserved to win the game. But, you cannot give it away like we did and we have to manage this game better. It is a team performance, you can point to one of the players but it is about team performance," said Hag. United have blow hot and cold throughout the season, having crashed out of the Champions League and Carabao Cup while failing to challenge for the title. The team's only hope of silverware this season is in the FA Cup where United face Coventry City in the semifinals at the Wembley, later this month. (With inputs from agencies)

'It's difficult to take': Bruno Fernandes laments after shocking late defeat against Chelsea

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag said he is realistic enough to know that securing a place in next season's Champions League will be difficult with the club 11 points out of fourth place and a growing injury list to contend with. United, who are sixth in the Premier League, have played two games fewer than fourth-placed Aston Villa and will look to close the gap to eight points when they play at Chelsea later on Thursday.

With Tottenham Hotspur one place above them in fifth, United have their work cut out to claim a place in Europe's elite club competition. "I know it will be very difficult because we are not in a good position," said Ten Hag. "But we want to win every game, that is the standard we have here ... We have to catch up. But I also know we have had a lot of problems so I am a realistic man.

Champions League spot difficult for Manchester United, admits Erik Ten Hag

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has made a bold statement on co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s involvement as they get ready for the tough final few weeks of the season. On the eve of the Manchester United and Chelsea clash, Ten Hag stated that co-owners should not interrupt the current process which involves academy players coming through. United’s partial share were recently taken over by INEOS group’s Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who is now in charge of the club’s football business including transfer and academy policies.

<h2>Ten Hag makes bold statement</h2>

"I think you need to follow the process," Ten Hag told a news conference on Wednesday.

"We have good young players coming through. They are developing very well in their progress. We are in a good way, a good direction and we need to make the next steps. Don't interrupt this process."

"I have high standards and I would be disappointed if we didn't qualify," said Ten Hag.

Ever since the takeover from Ratcliffe’s group, the board has been involved in off-field activity, including the acquisition of INEOS co-founder John Reece and INEOS Sport chairman Rob Nevin. Both have been confirmed as board members. United are also set to have the services of Dan Ashworth who is on "gardening leave" from his role at Newcastle United.

The change in hierarchy is set to influence the working system of the club, for which Ten Hag insists it should not be interrupted.

Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur won to boost their Champions League qualifying hopes while Manchester United had to settle for a point and Nottingham Forest drew to edge back out of the relegation zone in the Premier League on Saturday.

There was a scoring spree of 29 goals in dramatic action on Saturday which topped any Premier League matchday this season.

Moussa Diaby and Ezri Konsa netted in Villa's 2-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers to keep their side in fourth place with 59 points from 30 matches, three points ahead of Spurs.

Tottenham came from behind to beat visitors Luton Town 2-1 and remain in fifth place, which could be enough for Champions League football next season, with a game in hand over Villa.

Sixth-placed United were fortunate to escape from struggling Brentford with a point after a wild finish in a 1-1 draw.

Villa's win against their Midlands rivals was no classic, but the first victory for manager Unai Emery over Wolves at the seventh attempt ended a two-game winless run in the league.

"We wanted to focus on our game and that is what we did. We got the three points and I got a goal myself, so happy days," Konsa said. "It's a massive win, with Tottenham's result earlier, we knew we had to win."

Son Heung-min's 86th minute strike earned Spurs all three points against Luton to keep the pressure on Villa.

Luton dropped back below Forest into the relegation zone as they were stung by South Korean Son's late winner.

Tahith Chong gave the visitors a surprise early lead at Spurs but Issa Kabore's own goal in the 51st levelled it up.

Tottenham captain Son then started and finished a flowing late move to bag his 160th goal for the club.

United substitute Mason Mount thought he had given the visitors an undeserved victory at Brentford when he slotted home his first goal for the Old Trafford team in the 96th minute.

But Kristoffer Ajer's 99th-minute equaliser salvaged a point for the Bees to dent United's Champions League qualifying hopes. The Old Trafford side are now 11 points adrift of Villa, albeit with a game in hand, and eight points behind Spurs.

"Even when we don't play well we have to win the game and we almost did. That is what disappoints me the most," said United boss Erik ten Hag. "We should all stand up and all take responsibility for this. We'll keep fighting."

"Anyone could figure that one out. Much more challenging is to find the next Mbappe or Jude Bellingham or the next Roy Keane."

"It's not where our focus is, the solution isn't spending a lot of money on a couple of great players. They've done that over the last 10 years.”

United’s summer rebuilding is already on the way as they have Sir Dave Brailsford in charge of overseeing the creation of the new-look football operation at Old Trafford and has already brought in Omar Berrada from Man City to become the club's chief executive.

"The first thing we need to do is get the right people in the right boxes who are managing and organising the club and make sure we get recruitment right. It's such a vital part of running a football club today, finding new players,” Ratcliffe added.

Both the links were weaved by Ratcliffe as he opened up on the transfer policy which could see United land other targets. Manchester United Transfer News: Co-owner opens up on Kylian Mbappe transfer, says ‘I’d rather find...’

English Premier League side Liverpool's outgoing manager Jurgen Klopp got irked at a reporter after losing a thriller to Manchester United in FA Cup on Sunday (March 17). Klopp termed the reporter's question as stupid when asked if his side lacked the energy in extra-time during the match. Notably, United's Amad Diallo scored a goal in the 121st minute to help his team win 4-3 and book a place in the competition's semi-finals.

"It's a bit of a stupid question, If you see us often, you can ask us the other times why we have so much energy. I don't know how many games we've had recently and how many Manchester United have had. This is sport. I am very disappointed by that question, but you thought it was wise," Klopp replied to the reporter's question.

FA Cup: Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp slams reporter for 'stupid question' after loss to Man Utd - WATCH

English Premier League side Manchester United's Dutch manager Erik Ten Hag said that the 'team's future is very bright' after their thrilling 4-3 win over Liverpool in the FA Cup quarterfinals. United will now face Carabao Cup champion Coventry in the semi-finals.&nbsp;

"The first 35 minutes, we showed again that the future of this team is very bright," he said. "There is huge potential. We have to get it out and get consistency. The first 35 minutes was very pleasing. They are great characters and the determination we see again," said Ten Hag after the win.

United have endured a rough season so far with 11 losses and 15 wins along with two draws in 28 Premier League games. Ten Hag, however, said that their extra-time win against Liverpool could be a turning point of their season.

"This season we have so many setbacks and every time we have to adapt. This could be the moment. The team has the belief and energy to do amazing things. When you beat Liverpool you can beat any opponent," said the manager.

United's 21-year-old Amad Diallo scored the winning goal in the 121st minute before being sent off for his goal celebration. Diallo has played about 90 minutes of football this season but the manager praised him for helping the team win.

"I am so happy for him," Ten Hag said. "He is one of the players who had huge setbacks. He returned but there is a lot of competition in his position and he doesn't always get the time he deserves to play.

"It shows his contribution in scoring a goal, but we know he can do it. I am very pleased he can do it," said the Dutchman.

FA Cup: 'Future is bright,' notes Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag after thrilling win over Liverpool

At least one person has been arrested following reports of alleged "tragedy chanting" during Sunday's (Mar 17) FA Cup quarter-final match between Manchester United and Liverpool at Old Trafford.

The insensitive chants related to the Hillsborough disaster in which 97 Liverpool fans lost their lives during&nbsp;an FA Cup semi-final game against&nbsp;Nottingham Forest at Sheffield's Hillsborough Stadium.&nbsp;

According to reports, a significant number of alleged United fans in the Stretford End were heard chanting "Murderers" and&nbsp;"Always the victims", which was audible to the live television audience.&nbsp;

The Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed they had arrested one individual and that an investigation was currently underway.&nbsp;

“Incidents of tragedy chanting will not be tolerated and will be dealt with robustly. We are all familiar with fans taunting their opponents at football matches, but this is generally done in good humour and without offence. The incidents today crossed the line of what is acceptable, and we will work closely with both clubs to identify anyone responsible for committing offences during the event," a GMP spokesperson said.&nbsp;

The English Football Association (FA) also released a statement saying they will be “liaising with and supporting” GMP in an attempt to "stamp this behaviour out".&nbsp;

"It is entirely unacceptable and can have a lasting and damaging impact on people and communities within our game. It must stop, and we support any club and their fans who try to eradicate this from the terraces.”

The UK government in 2023 acknowledged that the&nbsp;current legislation can be used to prosecute 'offenders chanting or shouting about tragedies and death at football matches'.

The&nbsp;Public Order Act 1986 (POA) provides for&nbsp;situations where threatening or abusive language can meet the threshold for arrest and prosecution.&nbsp;

'I had other things to think': Jurgen Klopp plays down rivalry with Man United ahead of FA Cup clash

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag expects to have several key players back from injury for their FA Cup quarter-final against Liverpool on Sunday, with Rasmus Hojlund, Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka all training this week.

"They returned on the pitch. Partly in the start of the week and today we had a session that they were all training," Ten Hag told reporters on Friday. "I think (they will be available). We have, (Saturday) one session. We have to see how they recover from this, but it looks good."

Hojlund scored in six successive games across all competitions, with eight goals in his last eight games, before a muscle injury sidelined him for four games, including United's 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup fifth round.

United are languishing in sixth in the Premier League and face a red-hot Liverpool side who are level on points at the top of the table with Arsenal, although they trail the Gunners on goal difference.

Facing their north west rivals adds some spice to the match at Old Trafford.

"Some games are bigger than others, I think Manchester United against Liverpool is always a big game. I am looking forward to it," Ten Hag said. "The fans see it as a very big game and they are very eager for us to win ... our fans have to be loud.

"In such games, we always achieve good performances. I don't think in any really high-rated game that we had any lows. They are very consistent, we need our best to beat them."

The FA Cup is the only silverware United remain in the hunt for amid a tough season for Ten Hag's side. They lost to Manchester City in last year's final at Wembley.

United will be the more rested of the two sides after Liverpool clobbered Sparta Prague 6-1 on Thursday in the Europa League. United have not played since they defeated Everton 2-0 with penalties from Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford in the Premier League on Saturday.

United have lifted the FA Cup 12 times, second only to Arsenal's 14, while Liverpool have hoisted eight.

Returning trio boosts Manchester United’s morale ahead of Liverpool tie in FA Cup quarters

Arsenal's Kai Havertz headed an 86th-minute winner to take his side top of the Premier League with a 2-1 home victory over Brentford on Saturday (Mar 9), while Manchester United fanned the embers of their top-four hopes with a 2-0 win against visiting Everton.

Arsenal have 64 points after 28 games, although either Liverpool or Manchester City can claim first place with a win in Sunday's blockbuster clash at Anfield. Second-placed Liverpool have 63 points, while City are third on 62.

Luton Town salvaged a 1-1 draw at Crystal Palace with a late goal to boost their survival bid, Bournemouth came from two down to deny Sheffield United their fourth league win this season with a 2-2 draw and Wolverhampton Wanderers beat Fulham 2-1.

Arsenal recorded an eighth league victory in a row and Havertz scored for the fourth consecutive game to make up for a calamitous error by stand-in goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.

Declan Rice's glancing header from a Ben White cross gave Arsenal the lead after 19 minutes before Yoane Wissa levelled just before halftime, with his sliding challenge sending Ramsdale's attempted clearance into the net.

"These points were so important for us and you could see that in the second half," said Havertz. "We didn't play our best in the first half but it's even better to win it this way.

Brentford remain in 15th place.

<h2 data-testid="Heading">United penalties</h2>

Manchester United's Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford fired in first-half penalties -- both created by sloppy Everton tackles on Alejandro Garnacho.

Erik ten Hag's team remain sixth but with 47 points they crept closer to fourth-placed Aston Villa, who are on 55 with a game in hand at home to Tottenham Hotspur in fifth on Sunday.

United were coming off successive league losses, to Fulham and Manchester City, that ended an unbeaten run of four wins.

"It was important. We had one bad result against Fulham in this calendar year," Ten Hag said. "We had to put this right and keep the pressure on the teams above us.

"There are many games to play. Now we are back. We will keep pressure on them and see what happens."

Sean Dyche's Everton -- winless in 11 straight league games -- are 16th on 25 points, four points above the drop zone.

<h2 data-testid="Heading">Own goal</h2>

Wolves beat Fulham thanks to a close-range strike by Rayan Ait-Nouri and a deflected own goal from a shot by fellow defender Nelson Semedo that was attributed to Tom Cairney.

The result moved Wolves up to eighth in the league on 41 points and kept intact their more than four-decade unbeaten streak at home to the Londoners. Fulham are 12th on 35.

Wolves' first goal came in the 52nd minute when Algerian international Ait-Nouri scooped the ball into the roof of the net after a cutback from a free kick.

His Portuguese team mate Semedo secured the win 15 minutes later with a shot from just outside the area which hit Fulham midfielder Cairney on the way in for an own goal.

"An unbelievable win. To find a way to beat a Fulham team that are in a really good moment," Wolves manager Gary O'Neil said. "Just delighted - 41 points, equalling last season’s tally already."

Crystal Palace struck against Luton in the 11th minute when Jean-Philippe Mateta back-heeled the ball into the net.

But with Selhurst Park celebrating, Luton launched a late attack and Cauley Woodrow's goal in the 96th minute -- after late substitute Andros Townsend floated the ball into the area, stunned the home fans and gave the visitors an unlikely draw.

"It's frustrating, gutting to concede like that at the end of the game when we could have had three points," Palace goalkeeper Sam Johnstone said.

Palace remain 14th on 29 points with Luton still 18th on 21, three behind Nottingham Forest in the safety zone.

Sheffield United looked set to earn three points when the clock struck 90 minutes at the Vitality Stadium but Bournemouth's Enes Unal equalised to pile even more pressure on the visitors' faint survival hopes.

The draw was just enough to move United off the bottom of the table, up one spot to 19th on 14 points -- a point above Burnley, who visit West Ham United on Sunday.

"We're off the bottom, we'll enjoy that," Blades manager Chris Wilder said. "I'm not jumping through hoops and no medals are being handed out for being off the bottom. We have to show the consistency."

Arsenal's Kai Havertz headed an 86th-minute winner to take his side top of the Premier League with a 2-1 home victory over Brentford on Saturday (Mar 9), while Manchester United fanned the embers of their top-four hopes with a 2-0 win against visiting Everton.

United penalties Manchester United's Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford fired in first-half penalties -- both created by sloppy Everton tackles on Alejandro Garnacho. We will keep pressure on them and see what happens." Sean Dyche's Everton -- winless in 11 straight league games -- are 16th on 25 points, four points above the drop zone. Premier League: Arsenal overcome Brentford challenge to go top, United beat Everton

Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford fired in penalties to give Manchester United a 2-0 win over Everton on Saturday, their first Premier League victory in three games and one that will no doubt fan the embers of their top-four hopes.

Erik ten Hag's team remain sixth but with 47 points they crept closer to fourth-placed Aston Villa on 55 with a game in hand. Fifth-placed Tottenham, who host Villa on Sunday, have 50 points and two games in hand.

"Every game we have to win, so every game is a must-need," Ten Hag said. "We could have scored three or four goals not just the two penalties. We could have been calmer and more composed on the ball."

Sean Dyche's Everton -- winless in 11 straight league games -- are 16th on 25 points, five points above the drop zone.

Both penalties came courtesy of clumsy tackles in the box on Alejandro Garnacho and both were against the run of play, with Everton the dominant team for long stretches against a United midfield that repeatedly gave away the ball.

"We have to win every single game," Garnacho told TNT Sports. "The manager wants me to go one V one, to shoot, to dribble. I won two penalties. It's important.

"It's like a dream with my age. A full Old Trafford stadium chanting my name is incredible. I am very proud and happy," he said.

Fernandes fired in the first from the spot in the 12th minute, and United's captain then handed the ball to Rashford to take the second in the 36th minute.

"We both kick the penalties. I asked Marcus if he wanted to take and he said he was confident," Fernandes said. "I felt I had my one, Rashy could get his goal from the penalty."

Rashford stutter-stepped before sending keeper Jordan Pickford the wrong way.

Fernandes became the club's all-time leading scorer from penalties with 29 conversions, ahead of former striker Ruud van Nistelrooy's 28.

The Portuguese international almost had a second goal with a beautiful free kick in the first half that Pickford had to leap high to bat away.

Garnacho almost had a goal of his own when Fernandes played him in in the second half, but the 19-year-old launched it just over the bar.

Everton had 23 shots to United's 15 but squandered their chances with poor finishing touches, including a terrific late chance that saw Lewis Dobbin send a pass across goal that a sliding Dominic Calvert-Lewin was just a step too slow to connect with.

United were coming off successive league losses, to Fulham and Manchester City, that had ended an unbeaten run of four league wins.

"It was important. We had one bad result against Fulham in this calendar year," Ten Hag said. "We had to put this right and keep the pressure on the teams above us. There are many games to play. Now we are back. We will keep pressure on them and see what happens."

United were missing several key players including Rasmus Hojlund, who had scored in six consecutive games before suffering a muscle injury that has sidelined him since he netted two in United's 2-1 win at Luton Town on Feb. 18.

Everton are now one draw or loss away from tying their record for consecutive Premier League games without a win (12 in 1994).

"Very frustrating as you can imagine, and we've had a run where we've been performing correctly in so many ways, (but) the scoreline is what's important and that's what we get on the wrong side of," Dyche said.

<h2>What is the Munich air disaster?</h2>

The Munich air disaster took place on February 6, 1958, and is regarded as one of the most chilling incidents in world football. The catastrophe claimed the lives of 23 people, including United players popularly referred to as 'Busby Babes'.&nbsp;

The fatal crash took place while the United team was returning from a European Cup quarter-final game against Red Star Belgrade in what was then Yugoslavia. The plane skidded off&nbsp;the runway in Munich before crashing into a perimeter fence, and then into a nearby house.

After a petition signed by more than 17,000 people, the UK government in 2023 acknowledged that the&nbsp;current legislation can be used to prosecute 'offenders chanting or shouting about tragedies and death at football matches'.

“The Government is committed to tackling all harmful behaviours at football matches. Existing legislation can be used to prosecute those engaging in chanting about tragedies and death at football. "The Public Order Act 1986 (POA) provides for situations where threatening or abusive language can meet the threshold for arrest and prosecution," it added.&nbsp;

Notably, there have been repeated instances of opposition fans mocking a team for the tragedies. The fans of Liverpool Football Club (LFC) are routinely subjected to tragedy chants related to the Hillsborough disaster in which 97 Liverpool fans lost their lives.&nbsp;

Similarly, poverty chants remain a blot on English football where fans, often in unison, mock the poverty of the city the football club belongs to.&nbsp;
