As per the police, a case was filed by Amarjeet Surve who was apparently sent a screenshot of the person who had allegedly used Aurangzeb's image as a&nbsp;WhatsApp profile picture.<br />

Amarjeet, who is part of a Hindu organisation, dialled the accused, whose mobile number was displayed at the top of his profile picture, and asked him to change his profile picture in the wake of the present scenario in the state regarding Aurangzeb.<br />

Apparently, the accused said that he was not in a good mood, however, he agreed to remove the profile picture. Later, Amarjeet noticed that the profile picture remained unchanged. A complaint was lodged by Amarjeet against him with the Vashi police station in Navi Mumbai.</p>

<h2><strong>Maharashtra CM urges people to maintain peace</strong></h2>

<p>Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Wednesday appealed for calm and said that nobody should take the law into their hands.</p>

<p>"It is the government's responsibility to maintain law and order in the state. I also appeal to the public for peace and calm. A police investigation is underway and action will be taken against those found guilty," CM Shinde.</p>

<p>"Law and order is the responsibility of the government, Home Department. No one will be allowed to take the law and order into their hands. In such situations, action will be taken against those people. The Home Department and the Home Minister himself are keeping a close watch on the situation. I'm monitoring the situation myself through the senior officials", he said.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who also holds the Home portfolio, said that there is no forgiveness in the state for those who appreciate Aurangzeb.</p>

<p>"Police are also taking action. At the same time, it is our collective responsibility to ensure that the people should also maintain peace, and no untoward incident happens anywhere,"&nbsp;he added.</p>

<h2><strong>Case registered against four</strong></h2>

<p>According to officials, the police registered a case against four people who carried posters of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb during a procession in Maharashtra's Ahmednagar district, a video of which later went viral on the internet.</p>

<p>The Bhingar Camp police officials said that the procession was held in the Fakirwada area at 9 am on Sunday.</p>

<p>"Amid music and dance in the procession, four persons carried posters of Aurangzeb. An offence was registered against these four persons under Indian Penal Code sections for intention to incite a community to commit an offence against another community, hurting religious sentiments, and other offences," PTI quoted a Bhingar Camp police official as saying.</p>

<p>According to a report by the news agency IANS, the incident happened late Thursday. The victim, Pravin Lahane, 26, was the brother of an assistant police inspector. At around 4 am Friday, the Kasturba Marg Police Station received a call of a seriously injured and bleeding man lying on Carter Road No. 5, adjacent to the highway.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Lahane was reportedly inebriated and entered an old building where the CCTV footage showed him jumping over a wall, as a local road was closed. Believing him to be a burglar, some locals raised an alarm, chased Lahane, and caught and thrashed him before scooting from there.</p>

<p>The police took him to the station house where he suddenly collapsed. He was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. The police lodged a case of murder and mob violence against unknown persons and detained four in connection with the incident.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Over 110 people have been arrested and one person died after clashes erupted between two groups in the Indian state of Maharashtra’s town of Akola, over the weekend, as per media reports citing officials. The violence is&nbsp;said to be triggered by a social media post on the controversial film, <em>The Kerala Story</em>, reported BBC, citing reports.</p>

<p>The authorities had also imposed a curfew and shut down internet services in the violence-hit city to get the situation under control. At least eight people, including a female constable, were injured after the clashes erupted over the weekend.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“Violent clash erupted between two groups over a minor dispute. Some Vehicles have been damaged by the violent mob. The situation is now under control,” Akola Superintendent of Police, Sandeep Ghuge, said on Sunday, as quoted by news agency ANI.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to the police, the violence first began on Saturday when members of the community gathered outside the town’s police station to protest against a social media post in relation to <em>The Kerala Story</em>.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The post in question was reportedly a conversation between two residents the screenshot of which was shared on Instagram by one of them and “hurt the religious sentiments” of the other person. &nbsp;</p>

<p>“During a chat between two individuals, one person purposely tried to hurt the religious sentiments of another person after which the screenshot of those messages were shared on Instagram,” a police official told The Indian Express.&nbsp;<br />

<p>The members of the community then went on to file a complaint against the individual in the Ramdaspeth police station and while a case was being registered, some 1000 people marched to the house of the person who had uploaded the post, reported the local media.</p>

<p>Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, on Monday, ordered the police to take strict action against the perpetrators of the riots in Akola and Shevgaon in Ahmednagar while also urging people to maintain peace and social harmony.&nbsp;</p>

<p>However, no further details about the post were given. The police are looking for the account holder whose Instagram handle was XYZZZZZ99988. The account, which appears to be fake, was deleted minutes after sending provocative messages, said the police.&nbsp;</p>

The authorities had also imposed a curfew and shut down internet services in the violence-hit city to get the situation under control. At least eight people, including a female constable, were injured after the clashes erupted over the weekend. “Violent clash erupted between two groups over a minor dispute. Some Vehicles have been damaged by the violent mob. The situation is now under control,” Akola Superintendent of Police, Sandeep Ghuge, said on Sunday, as quoted by news agency ANI. The post in question was reportedly a conversation between two residents the screenshot of which was shared on Instagram by one of them and “hurt the religious sentiments” of the other person. “During a chat between two individuals, one person purposely tried to hurt the religious sentiments of another person after which the screenshot of those messages were shared on Instagram,” a police official told The Indian Express. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, on Monday, ordered the police to take strict action against the perpetrators of the riots in Akola and Shevgaon in Ahmednagar while also urging people to maintain peace and social harmony. However, no further details about the post were given. The police are looking for the account holder whose Instagram handle was XYZZZZZ99988. The account, which appears to be fake, was deleted minutes after sending provocative messages, said the police. <p>Maharashtra government on Friday (May 12) dropped all charges against Param Bir Singh, former commissioner of police, Mumbai. These charges were brought against him during the departmental enquiry initiated against him by the Maha Vikas Aghadi government which ruled the state before the current dispensation headed by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.</p>

<p>In spite of dropping of charges, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will continue to probe five cases registered against Singh. The retired officer of Indian Police Service (IPS) faces multiple cases of extortion, corruption and misconduct.</p>

<p>Param Bir Singh was Police Commissioner when journalist and anchor Arnab Goswami was arrested by Mumbai Police.</p>

<p>Speaking to reporters in Nagpur, deputy chief minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis said the government decided to revoke Singh's suspension order following the Central Administrative Tribunal's (CAT) decision to close the departmental inquiry against him.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Fadnavis added that CAT order deemed the departmental inquiry wrongful. The order revoking Singh's suspension and withdrawing all charges against him related to the departmental enquiry initiated in 2021 were issued by the state home department on Wednesday (May 10).</p>

<p>According to the order, the period of the former IPS officer's suspension should be treated as if he was on duty. At least four cases of extortion were registered against Singh in Mumbai and adjoining Thane.&nbsp;</p>

<p>During his decades-long police career, Param Bir Singh served as commissioner of both, Mumbai and Thane.&nbsp;</p>

<p>He was transferred from the post of Mumbai Police Commissioner in March 2021 after Assistant Police Inspector Sachin Waze was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The arrest was made in connection with seizure of explosives-laden SUV from near business tycoon Mukesh Ambani's residence in Mumbai.&nbsp;</p>

<p>After this, Param Bir Singh wrote an explosive letter to the then chief minister of Maharashtra Uddhav Thackeray. In the letter, Singh alleged that then home minister Anil Deshmukh had asked police officers to collect Rs 100 crore (more than USD 12 million) per month from hotels in Mumbai. Deshmukh had denied the allegations.</p>

Shinde, once a prominent figure in Shiv Sena under Uddhav Thackeray, revolted against him last year. He found support from a large number of Shiv Sena's Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs). Thackeray subsequently resigned and Shinde became chief minister with the support of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Election Commission of India (ECI) has already ruled that the Shinde faction can use the name Shiv Sena and the famous 'bow and arrow' symbol of the party.</p>

<p>"Relief could have been provided if he [Thackeray] had not resigned and faced the floor test. Governor should not have called for the trust vote but because Uddhav Thackeray resigned, Governor was justified in calling Eknath Shinde in forming the government," said Supreme Court on Thursday.<br />

In a unanimous verdict on a batch of pleas related to the political crisis that led to the fall of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government led by Thackeray following a revolt by the Eknath Shinde faction, a five-judge Constitution bench headed by Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud and comprising&nbsp;Justices MR Shah, Krishna Murari, Hima Kohli and PS Narasimha&nbsp;said that it could not&nbsp;quash the resignation tendered by Thackeray.<br />
<br />
It made clear that had Thackeray not resigned, the Supreme Court could have reinstated him but the court can't quash a resignation.</p>

<p>The Supreme Court on March 17 had reserved its verdict.&nbsp;The bench noted that the petitioners argued for restoring the status quo ante, however, Thackeray did not face the floor test.</p>

<h2><strong>Former Maharashtra governor erred, says Supreme Court</strong></h2>

<p>The top court held that the Maharashtra Governor erred in concluding that Uddhav Thackeray had lost the majority in the House.</p>

<p>The bench said the lack of security to MLAs (Eknath Shinde faction) is not a reason to conclude that a government has fallen and it was nothing, but an extraneous reason to be relied upon by the Governor.</p>

<p>The top court said the Governor had no objective material to doubt the confidence of the Maha Vikas Aghadi government and to call for a floor test.</p>

<p>The bench noted that Devendra Fadanvis and independent MLAs also didn't move a no confidence motion and the Governor's exercise of discretion was not in accordance with the law.</p>

<p>The bench said neither the Constitution nor the law empowers the Governor to enter the political arena and play a role either in inter-party or intra-party disputes.<br />

The apex court also referred the 2016 Nabam Rebia verdict by a five-judge constitution bench, which relates to the power of speaker on disqualification of MLAs, to a larger bench of seven judges.<br />

<p>The initiative was taken by the administration under project Bhamragad and there are eight government schools part of it. So, the AI machine works on the basis of Image recognition. AI algorithms trained to recognize visual characteristics of food products, such as colour, texture, and shape, can detect the quality of the food.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Overall, it appears to be a great initiative by tapping into the potential of AI to improve the efficiency and accuracy of food quality testing which can lead to healthier food options for children. Just seconds after the machine captures a picture of the food plate, it makes an assessment whether the food quality is at par or not.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The machine does not require any human intervention and can be easily used by a person of any age without any difficulty.&nbsp;</p>

<p>''When I used to come to this all-girls Ashram School, I used to feel that they lack nutrition. When we had a preliminary BMI analysis, we found that 61 girls out of the 222 were malnourished. Meals are provided here thrice a day - breakfast, lunch and dinner. The quantity of the food is up to the mark, and we also follow the menu. So, we wanted to ascertain the cause,'' Shubham Gupta, Assistant Collector of Etapalli and Project Director of Integrated Tribal Development Project told ANI.</p>

<p>He said that he got connected with a startup through an NGO that created a device that could evaluate the quality of food being served to the students.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“I came in touch with an NGO that further connected me to a startup. We deployed here this machine designed by them… Through this machine, we have tried to implement improvement in not only the quantity but also the quality of food. Data collected here can be accessed by Headmaster and me. We have installed it in one of the 8 Ashram Schools so far," he said.</p>

<p>The award ceremony was held in Navi Mumbai on Sunday afternoon, where the daytime temperature was recorded at a maximum of 38 degrees Celsius.</p>

<p>India's Home Minister Amit Shah, state Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also attended the ceremony, where social activist Appasaheb Dharmadhikari was felicitated.</p>

<p>According to reports, the ceremony was held at an open ground, where no roof was available.</p>

<p>"Heat wave conditions are very likely in isolated/some pockets over Gangetic West Bengal and Bihar during next five days and over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal &amp; Sikkim during next three days," IMD said in its latest weather bulletin.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The weather agency said heatwave conditions have been prevailing in isolated pockets over Gangetic West Bengal for the last fi vedays, coastal Andhra Pradesh for the last three days, and Bihar for the last two days.</p>

<p>A heat wave is declared when the maximum temperature at a station is at least 40 degrees Celsius in the plains, 37 degrees in coastal areas, and 30 degrees in mountainous areas.</p>

<p>As per a PTI report quoting a senior police official, the accident happened around 4:50 am local time (8:20 pm GMT).</p>

<p>"The bus was carrying members of 'Baji Prabhu Vaadak Group' from Mumbai's Goregaon. They were returning to Goregaon after taking part in an event in Pimpri Chinchwad area in the Pune district. The bus had left the venue around 1 am on Saturday," he said.</p>

<p>Raigad Superintendent of Police (SP) Somnath Gharge revealed that the bus' passengers are from Sion and Goregaon in Mumbai and Virar in the neighbouring Palghar district.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Due to heavy rain and strong winds, an old Neem tree (Indian lilac) fell on it. About 35 to 40 people were buried under the shed, killing 7, as per reports citing authorities.</p>

<p>Five injured were&nbsp;are now receiving treatment at Akola Medical College.</p>

<p>The moment the authorities learned about the event, they dispatched emergency services to carry out rescue operations. A&nbsp;JCB equipment was also&nbsp;brought in to raise the tree trunk and the toppled structure.</p>

<p>Devendra Fadnavis, the deputy chief minister of Maharashtra, expressed condolences for the victims' families. He further promised financial support on behalf of the Chief Minister Eknath Shinde-led Maharashtra government.</p>

Heavy storm in Maharashtra uproots giant tree, 7 killed and 5 injured

<p>The Indian government gave a go-ahead to Rs 2,600-crore project on Thursday for setting up a Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory-India (LIGO-India) in the Aundha area of Hingol district in Maharashtra.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The observatory is being designed to detect gravitational waves, which are ripples in the fabric of spacetime caused by the acceleration of massive objects, such as plants and stars.</p>

<p>The first detection of gravitational waves was made by US-based LIGO on September 14, 2015. LIGO has detected numerous other gravitational waves. These detections have confirmed some of the predictions of Einstein's theory of general relativity and provided a new way to study the universe.</p>

<p>LIGO-India will be located about 450km east of Mumbai. The set-up is expected to be completed by 2030.</p>

<p>Union Space and Technology Minister Jitendra Singh said LIGO-India&nbsp;will&nbsp;aid in a more thorough knowledge of gravitational waves as well as other celestial phenomena like neutron stars and black holes.&nbsp;</p>

<p>174 acres of land have been been acquired&nbsp;for LIGO-India. The&nbsp;project has also&nbsp;received environmental approval, and a geotechnical survey has been completed. An empowered board will be established to oversee the project.</p>

<h2><strong>A landmark moment for India&nbsp;</strong></h2>

<p>This is the first-ever cutting-edge facility of this size being&nbsp;constructed in India.&nbsp;One such facility that has been planned in India, the Neutrino Observatory, has had difficulties. So, LIGO-India&nbsp;is essential for proving India's might&nbsp;to take&nbsp;difficult scientific initiatives independently.</p>

<h2><strong>Collaboration with US LIGO observatories&nbsp;</strong></h2>

<p>In the US, there are already two such LIGO observatories. The third such cutting-edge gravitational-wave observatory will be LIGO-India. A group of Indian research institutes and the LIGO Laboratory in the United States, together with its worldwide collaborators, are planning to work together on the project. Key lab components worth $80 million, or Rs 560 crore, would be supplied by the US.</p>

<p>In February 2016, the government granted in-principle clearance to LIGO-India. Since then, the project has accomplished a number of significant milestones on the way to choosing and&nbsp;acquiring the land for the&nbsp;observatory.</p>

The observatory is being designed to detect gravitational waves, which are ripples in the fabric of spacetime caused by the acceleration of massive objects, such as plants and stars. The first detection of gravitational waves was made by US-based LIGO on September 14, 2015. LIGO has detected numerous other gravitational waves. These detections have confirmed some of the predictions of Einstein's theory of general relativity and provided a new way to study the universe. The set-up is expected to be completed by 2030. Union Space and Technology Minister Jitendra Singh said LIGO-India will aid in a more thorough knowledge of gravitational waves as well as other celestial phenomena like neutron stars and black holes. 174 acres of land have been been acquired for LIGO-India. The project has also received environmental approval, and a geotechnical survey has been completed. An empowered board will be established to oversee the project. In landmark move, India gives nod to LIGO observatory in Maharashtra to study gravitational waves

<p>Poor air quality for the last three months has been a cause of concern for citizens living in India’s financial capital, Mumbai. Its civic body, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has blamed construction activity as the major cause for the rising bad air quality in the city.</p>

<p>To suggest dust control measures, BMC has formed a seven-member committee under the chairmanship of Additional Municipal Commissioner (Western Suburbs) Sanjeev Kumar. As per the directions given by Municipal Commissioner I S Chahal, the panel shall submit a report within seven days.</p>

<p>“There are around 5,000 sites where construction work is going on currently. The air quality in Mumbai region including the city is currently bad due to changes in the wind speed conditions combined with dust arising from various development and construction works, which are going on a large scale. In view of this, dust is the main factor responsible for air pollution,” said a senior BMC official.</p>

<p>Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a 246-km section of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway in Dausa on Sunday.&nbsp;The Delhi-Dausa-Lalsot stretch is set to reduce the travel time between the national capital and Jaipur considerably.&nbsp;The PM pressed the button of a remote to mark the foundation laying/inauguration of a total of four projects, including the first phase of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, worth more than Rs 18,000 crore.</p>

<p>Modi said when the government invests in highway projects, ports, railways, optical fibre, and opens medical colleges, it gives strength to traders, small shopkeepers and industries. "Investment on infrastructure attracts more investment."</p>

<p>Developed at a cost of more than Rs 12,150 crore, this first completed section of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway will provide a major boost to the economic development of the entire region.</p>

<p>Modi said the new section will reduce the travel time between Jaipur and Delhi to half.</p>

<p>The PM said those who travel to Delhi for work can now come back to home in the evening after finishing their task. The PM said that rural 'haats' are being developed around the expressway where the local artisans can sell their articles.</p>

<p>He said the expressway will benefit the Sariska National Park, Keoladeo National Park, Ranthambore National Park as well as cities such as Jaipur and Ajmer.</p>

<p>Rajasthan is already known for its tourism sector and the attraction will increase further with the new infrastructure project, the prime minister said.</p>

<p>Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, Union MoS V K Singh, Union minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and other leaders were present on the stage during the function.</p>

<p>Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and his Haryana counterpart Manohar Lal Khattar addressed the programme through a video link.</p>

<p>While Gehlot joined the programme from the chief minister's residence in Jaipur, Khattar addressed the event from a function in Nuh district.</p>

<p>Earlier, the PMO said Modi's emphasis on building excellent road infrastructure as an engine of growth, development and connectivity in "New India" is being realised by the construction of a number of ongoing world class expressways across the country.</p>

<p>The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway will be India's longest with a length of 1,386 km. It will reduce the travel distance between Delhi and Mumbai by 12 per cent, from 1,424 km to 1,242 km, while the travel time will be cut by 50 per cent, from the current 24 hours to 12 hours, it said.</p>

<p>The expressway will pass through Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Maharashtra and connect major cities like Kota, Indore, Jaipur, Bhopal, Vadodara and Surat.</p>

<p>It will also serve 93 PM Gati Shakti Economic Nodes, 13 ports, eight major airports and as many multi-modal logistics parks (MMLPs) along with the new upcoming greenfield airports such as Jewar Airport, Navi Mumbai Airport and JNPT port.</p>

<p>It will have a catalytic impact in the developmental trajectory of all adjoining regions, thus contributing in a major way in the economic transformation of the country, the PMO said.</p>
