Indian multi-billionaire Mukesh Ambani has reportedly entered the race to buy Premier League club Liverpool. Fenway Sports Group (FSG), the current owners of the club, had recently confirmed they are open to bringing in fresh investment or a complete sale if their terms and conditions are met.

As per a report in UK's The Mirror, Ambani has already enquired about a possible takeover of Liverpool and is interested in buying the club. The FSG Group have put a huge price tag for all potential buyers and are willing to sell the club for 4 billion British pounds.

Ambani, the chairman of Reliance Industries, is the eighth richest person in the world at present with a net worth of more than 92 billion USD, as per Forbes. His company has significant investments in Indian sports as Reliance owns the Mumbai Indians franchise in the Indian Premier League and also runs India's top-flight football league - the Indian Super League (ISL).

English Premier League club Liverpool has reportedly been put up for sale by its owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG). FSG has played a key role in Liverpool's recent success but the owners have been widely criticised by fans for their lack of proper investment in the club.

FSG had taken over Liverpool from their former American owners George Gillett Jr and Tom Hicks in 2010 after massive outrage among fans over the club's long-standing trophy drought. Liverpool managed to break the curse under FSG as Jurgen Klopp led the club to its first Premier League title in 2019-20.

As per a report in The Athletic, FSG have put together a full-fledged presentation for the parties interested in exploring a deal for the Premier League club. The Liverpool owners have also roped in Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley to ensure the entire sale is processed without any major hiccups.

In a statement published by The Athletic, FSG said they have received frequent inquiries about Liverpool being up for sale from different parties in recent times and that they are interested in bringing in new shareholders for the club. FSG said it will be willing to sell the club under the right terms and conditions.

"There have been a number of recent changes of ownership and rumours of changes in ownership at EPL clubs and inevitably we are asked regularly about Fenway Sports Group’s ownership in Liverpool," FSG said in a statement, as per The Athletic.

"FSG has frequently received expressions of interest from third parties seeking to become shareholders in Liverpool. FSG has said before that under the right terms and conditions we would consider new shareholders if it was in the best interests of Liverpool as a club.

"FSG remains fully committed to the success of Liverpool, both on and off the pitch," the statement added.

Since FSG took over the club in 2010, the owners have transformed the Mersyside outfit by developing a proper football structure and investing in the right kind of players. Their transfer business has been shrewd ever since Klopp's arrival in 2015 and the strategy has helped them reap rewards on the pitch.

Liverpool won their fifth Champions League title in 2018-19 before clinching the Premier League title in 2019-20. They have also won the FA Cup, Carabao Cup and the UEFA Super Cup titles under Klopp and are touted as one of the best clubs in the world at present.

John W.Henry, one of the two founders of the FSG, is currently the prinicipal owner of the group alongwith chairman Tom Werner, who is also the chairman of Liverpool. FSG had earlier sold an 11% stake in the club to RedBird Capital Partners last year amid reports that Henry wanted to ease some burden off his shoulders.

Premier League club Liverpool put up for sale by Fenway Sports Group

Liverpool shrugged off their Premier League problems to qualify for the last 16 of the Champions League with a 3-0 win over Ajax on Wednesday.

Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez and Harvey Elliott were on target in Amsterdam as the Reds reached the knockout stage for a sixth consecutive season.

Jurgen Klopp's men still have a mountain to climb next week when Napoli visit Anfield if they are to finish top of Group A.

Liverpool trail the Italians by three points and need to better Napoli's 4-1 win when the sides met last month to get the better of the head-to-head record.

Defeat ends Ajax's chances of reaching the last 16 and the Dutch champions were left to rue not taking advantage of a fast start as they flew out the traps.

Steven Berghuis should have opened the scoring after just two minutes when he fired against the post with just Alisson Becker to beat.

Berghuis then shot just wide from range and Dusan Tadic should have done better when he blasted into the body of Trent Alexander-Arnold at the back post.

Liverpool have now won as many Champions League matches this season as they have in 11 Premier League games.

The contrasting form of Jurgen Klopp's men between domestic and European action is reflected in Salah's scoring record.

Of the Egyptian's nine goals this season, six have come in the Champions League as he produced a cool finish over Remko Pasveer from Jordan Henderson's through ball to settle Liverpool nerves.

The visitors should have been out of sight before half-time but for an astonishing miss from Nunez, who hit the post with the goal gaping from Roberto Firmino's unselfish pass.

The Uruguayan rose highest to power Andy Robertson's corner in off the far post on 49 minutes.

Three minutes later, Liverpool were cruising when Salah picked out the run of Elliott, who fired high past Pasveer from a narrow angle.

Klopp pointed much of the blame for his side's lack of consistency in the opening months of the season to a catalogue of injuries.

And with another five games still to come before the World Cup break next month, a commanding lead meant the Liverpool could take their foot off the gas in the final half-hour with Nunez, Fabinho and Henderson among those handed a rest by Klopp.

Liverpool steamroller Ajax to cruise into Champions League last 16

Liverpool maintained their new-found momentum as Darwin Nunez scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory over West Ham United in the Premier League, but high-flying Tottenham Hotspur suffered a reality check with a 2-0 loss at Manchester United on Wednesday. Chelsea's run of four successive league wins came to an end as they were held to a 0-0 draw at Brentford. Impressive Newcastle United bolstered their place in the top-six with a 1-0 victory at home to struggling Everton.

Southampton eased some pressure on manager Ralph Hasenhuttl with a 1-0 win against south coast rivals Bournemouth to climb out of the relegation zone. Liverpool's 1-0 win over champions Manchester City at the weekend looked like lift-off for their stuttering season but they were made to work extra hard by West Ham. In the end they were thankful for summer signing Nunez's first Anfield goal for the club, a superb downward header in the 22nd minute from a cross by Kostas Tsimikas.

Nunez also rattled the post with a ferocious shot but West Ham could easily have taken a point. Jarrod Bowen's penalty was saved by Alisson just before halftime while Tomas Soucek and Said Benrahma both had great opportunities for the visitors late on. Liverpool moved up to seventh with 16 points from 10 games, two points behind Newcastle and three behind Manchester United.

"I don't stand here thinking it should be an easy game for us, but we got the result and I think we deserved the result," Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp, who was red-carded during the win over City, said. "Luck hasn't always been on our side but maybe today we had it, or Ali, however you want to look at it. "It is three points more, massive."

UNITED TAKING SHAPE

After a difficult start Man Utd are slowly taking shape under Dutch manager Erik ten Hag and they added Tottenham to their wins already against Liverpool and leaders Arsenal. But for a clutch of superb saves by keeper Hugo Lloris, United would have won by more as Tottenham squandered the chance to move into second place with a dismal display. United rained in 18 shots on the Spurs goal in the first half without scoring, but eventually went in front when Fred's side-footed shot deflected past Lloris in the 47th minute.

The Reds kept up the pressure and deservedly put the game to bed in the 69th minute when Bruno Fernandes powered a strike into the net after another excellent flowing move. Newcastle, who have lost only once all season and are beginning to look like contenders for a European place, edged out Everton with a goal by Miguel Almiron.

The Paraguay international curled a shot from the edge of the box into the top corner just past the half-hour mark to condemn Everton to a third consecutive defeat. Chelsea kept a fifth clean sheet in succession in all competitions but Graham Potter's side could find no way past Brentford who enjoyed the better of the chances in the west London derby. They remain fourth in the standings on 20 points, three behind Tottenham with a game in hand, but already starting to drift off the pace set at the top and facing what is already looking like a tense battle for a Champions League spot.

"They had some chances, we had some, we finished the game stronger, but it was a hard-earned point against a team who make it difficult for you," Potter, still unbeaten after replacing Thomas Tuchel in early September, said. Che Adams's first-half header earned Southampton victory at Bournemouth -- their first win in six games moving them up to 14th place with 11 points.

PL: Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp charged with improper conduct after outburst at referee vs Man City

Substitute Mohamed Salah scored the fastest hat-trick in Champions League history as Liverpool came from behind to thrash Rangers 7-1 on Wednesday and put themselves on the verge of qualification for the competition's knockout stages. Salah came off the bench in the second half with Liverpool leading 3-1 and fired a treble timed at six minutes and 12 seconds between the first and third goals to turn a hard-fought win into a rout. Roberto Firmino had dragged Liverpool back into the contest with a double strike and Darwin Nunez was also on the scoresheet before Harvey Elliott rounded off the scoring following Salah's goals.

It appeared a much-changed Liverpool were in for further frustration in a disappointing season so far as they fell behind for the eighth time in all competitions after Scott Arfield slotted home 17 minutes in to lift the roof off Ibrox. That lead lasted less than eight minutes, however, as Firmino continued his prolific season with a near-post header to level things up from a corner. Liverpool were much the better team right from the off in the second half and deservedly edged back in front 10 minutes after the interval, Firmino converting Joe Gomez's pinpoint low cross to take his goal tally to eight in all competitions.

With Rangers chasing the game, a fine finish from close-season signing Nunez put the game beyond the hosts before Salah took centre stage. Elliott added to the home side's embarrassment with a late seventh, putting the seal on a victory that means Liverpool are second in Group A, and need just one point from their final two matches to be sure of a spot in the knockout stages, while Rangers are bottom, without a point.

"We were really just on it and meeting us in the wrong moment is not cool (for opponents)," Liverpool boss Juergen Klopp said. "All the goals we scored were exceptional. Mo (Salah) came on and is on fire and interprets the position really well. It is a night where things work out for us. "In the end we needed to get clear in the final third, which obviously worked out, all the goals were great, how we played them and set them up and finished them."

RANGERS MISSED CHANCES

Coming into the match, of the 45 teams to have played at least 50 games in the Champions League, only Anderlecht had a lower win rate than Rangers' 12 victories in 65 games. However, you would not have thought it at Ibrox, given how Rangers started. Former Liverpool forward Ryan Kent fired just over before Arfield found the bottom corner for Rangers' first Champions League goal of the season, and first in 383 minutes in the competition.

The defending from the home side left much to be desired as Liverpool levelled through Firmino, but that was as good as it got for the visitors in the opening period, with Rangers missing several chances to retake the lead. The second half was a different story altogether, and Rangers completely crumbled as Liverpool improved. Nunez's goal was as much to do with the hosts' poor defending, while Salah was presented with gift after gift having come off the bench for only the final 22 minutes.

Salah's incredible treble took him to 38 Champions League goals for Liverpool, now the most by any player for an English club in the competition, surpassing Didier Drogba for Chelsea and Sergio Aguero for Manchester City, who both have 36. The stadium was empty as Elliott stroked home to complete a flattering scoreline for Liverpool, given they had struggled for much of the opening period.

"It is very hard to explain, to process," Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst said. "I am still processing the game, especially the second half. "The first half and the last half-an-hour was night and day, how we played and that difference in level, that is too much in Champions League. I cannot explain it right now."

London: Three people stabbed near Liverpool Street station in central London

Arsenal ensured they will end the weekend on top of the Premier League with a 3-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the north London derby on Saturday but Liverpool's problems continued as they drew 3-3 at home to Brighton & Hove Albion.

Graham Potter marked his first Premier League game in charge of Chelsea with a 2-1 victory at Crystal Palace thanks to a late winner by Conor Gallagher.

Newcastle United thumped 10-man Fulham 4-1 at Craven Cottage to snap a run of draws while Everton enjoyed their first away win of the season with a 2-1 victory at Southampton.

Gianluca Scamacca scored his first Premier League goal to help West Ham United on their way to a 2-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers to move them out of the bottom three and leave Wolves in it.

Bournemouth drew 0-0 at home to Brentford.

Arsenal's seventh win in eight matches this season left them on 21 points, four ahead of champions Manchester City who host Manchester United on Sunday.

It was a well-deserved triumph for Mikel Arteta's side although they were helped by Tottenham self-destructing after the break when full back Emerson Royal was red-carded.

Thomas Partey's superb curled effort gave Arsenal an early lead but Harry Kane's penalty levelled it up before the break.

Kane became the first player to score 100 away goals in the Premier League and now has a record 44 goals in London derbies, one ahead of Arsenal great Thierry Henry.

Those feats will mean little to Kane though as his side's unbeaten start to the season came to a disappointing end.

Shortly after halftime, Gabriel Jesus scored from close range after a howler by Tottenham keeper Hugo Lloris and Tottenham's Royal was then sent off for a daft foul on Gabriel Martinelli who was deep inside his own half.

"The red card killed the game," Tottenham manager Antonio Conte said. "Not because we had 10 men, but because the team we had was really offensive and in that four or five minutes it took to make the substitutions the team was really offensive, it was difficult to defend and we conceded the (third) goal."

Granit Xhaka sealed the points for Arsenal.

Liverpool dropped more points as Brighton made light of the departure of Potter to mark the start of the Roberto de Zerbi reign with a point from a thriller.

Leandro Trossard scored a hat-trick for Brighton, the first two to put his side 2-0 ahead inside 20 minutes and then late on to salvage a point after a powerful Liverpool fightback.

Roberto Firmino's brace levelled it up for the hosts and when Adam Webster turned into his own goal it seemed Liverpool would take the points, only for Trossard to strike again.

Brighton remained in fourth spot with 14 points while Liverpool are ninth on 10.

Potter's Chelsea were heading for a draw at Selhurst Park after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's first goal for the club cancelled out Odsonne Edouard's early opener for Palace.

Gallagher, who spent last season on loan at Palace, curled in a superb winner in the 90th minute, his first Chelsea goal.

Draw specialists Newcastle made the most of an early red card for Fulham's Nathaniel Chalobah to claim their second win of the season after five stalemates in their last six games.

Chalobah was sent off in the eighth minute for a dangerous challenge on Sean Longstaff that was originally deemed a yellow card but upgraded after a VAR review.

Fit-again Callum Wilson bundled Newcastle ahead three minutes later and Miguel Almiron made it 2-0 in the 33rd minute with a sumptuous left-foot volley.

Sean Longstaff made it 3-0 before Almiron slotted home his second goal from Joe Willock's precise pass.

Bobby De Cordova Reid scored a late consolation for Fulham.

Conor Coady and Dwight McNeil scored in quick succession in the second half as Everton came from behind to win at Southampton who had taken the lead through Joe Aribo.

Arsenal beat Spurs to stay top, Liverpool held by Brighton

More than 1,700 Liverpool fans who allege they were injured or suffered psychological trauma as a result of the crowd chaos at this year's Champions League final in Paris are to sue UEFA, lawyers said on Friday.

European football governing body UEFA is facing group action following the showpiece match between Liverpool and Real Madrid in Paris on May 28.

UEFA delayed kick-off by 35 minutes, citing "security issues", with fans subjected to crushes, teargas and street crime.

A French Senate inquiry contradicted initial assertions by UEFA and the French government that Liverpool fans had been mainly responsible for the trouble by not having proper tickets.

The inquiry instead cited a "string of dysfunctions" including a lack of preparation by authorities and UEFA, as well as poorly executed security arrangements.

Bingham's has joined global law company Pogust Goodhead in a lawsuit for 1,450 clients alleging negligence, with Leigh Day, another law firm, also bringing a group action on behalf of 400 more fans.

Lawyers said they planned to sue UEFA for breach of contract in ticket sales and negligence over a duty of care they had towards supporters, who were harmed both physically and mentally.

Gerard Long of Binghams told the BBC: "As a life-long Liverpool fan, I was absolutely horrified when I heard how events unfolded at what should have been the highlight of the football season.

Nearly 2,000 Liverpool fans to sue UEFA over Champions League final fiasco

Erling Haaland has been taring up the English Premier League ever since his joining Manchester City from German club Borrusia Dortmund this cummer. However, things could have been very different for the Norwegian striker as he was on the radar of several top Premier League clubs while he was still very young and playing for Molde FK in his country.

A prodigious talent, Haaland had showcased at a very young age that he had all the qualities to become a successful striker. He was doing well for Molde in Norway and was making a name for himself with his goal-scoring exploits when a few top Premier League clubs got a chance to watch him and sign him.

Former Molde scout Jhon Vik revealed top English clubs like Arsenal and Liverpool had seen Haaland play and were presented with an opportunity to get him. However, they ended up passing on the chance, much to the shock of Vik, who always believed Haaland was destined for the top.

Haaland left Molde to join RB Salzburg in 2019 where he further developed before joining Borussia Dortmund. He left Dortmund to join reigning Premier League champions Manchester City this season and has been brilliant for them right from the start.

"Liverpool could have got him. Arsenal could have got him," Vik, who discovered Haaland at Molde, told The Athletic.

"Everyone was there to watch him but these clubs were seeing a No.9 who was tall and broad and, ‘Oh, he’s going to be a target man’. I couldn’t for the life of me see why they had narrowed him down that way," he further added.

Vik believes the clubs who rejected him would now be 'kicking themselves' after watching Haaland develop into one of the best young strikers in the world at present. Haaland has been sensational over the last couple of years and has been shattering records with his goal-scoring exploits.

He recently became the youngest and fastest to score 25 goals in the Champions League after scoring a brace for City in their game against Spanish club Sevilla. Haaland has reached 25 goals in the Champions League at the age of 22 and has also scored ten goals in just six Premier League games already this season.

A prolific goalscorer, Haaland will be looking to continue his red-hot form when Manchester City take on his former club Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League next.

Vik believes the clubs who rejected him would now be 'kicking themselves' after watching Haaland develop into one of the best young strikers in the world at present. Haaland has been sensational over the last couple of years and has been shattering records with his goal-scoring exploits. Late winner from Joel Matip gives Liverpool UEFA Champions League lift off

Liverpool earned their first win of the season in stunning fashion after equalling the record for the biggest ever Premier League victory with a 9-0 thrashing of promoted Bournemouth at Anfield on Saturday.

Two goals inside the opening six minutes from Luis Diaz and Harvey Elliot put the hosts into a commanding position from the off.

A stunning strike from England full-back Trent Alexander Arnold which arrowed into the top corner gave Liverpool a three-goal lead in the 28th minute before Roberto Firmino got in on the act with a fourth three minutes later.

Not done there, Liverpool had a fifth before the interval, with Virgil van Dijk heading home from a corner -- the first time the Reds had netted five in the first half of a league game since 1958.

Chris Mepham's own goal had the visitors staring at the prospect of an embarrassing drubbing, with such worries heightening after a close-range finish from Firmino and substitute Fabio Carvalho's volley.

After Diaz headed in the ninth, Liverpool had five minutes to become the first side to score 10 goals in a Premier League match. But despite some late scares, Bournemouth did just enough to avoid suffering that ignominy.

Along with Manchester United twice and Leicester City, four teams have now scored nine in a Premier League match, while Liverpool equalled their own league win record with Saturday's thrashing.

"We had to prove a point to ourselves," Liverpool coach Juergen Klopp said as he celebrated the biggest ever competitive win of his managerial career.

"We were not happy with how we played so far this season, but we had good moments in those games.

"We just had to give the game a proper direction and that's why I loved the start today. Two wonderful goals, everything about them.

"We kept going, scoring different goals but with the same purpose to keep up the pressure. In the end it was the perfect football afternoon."

The last time Liverpool failed to win any of their opening four games of a season was back in 2012-13, a feat never likely to be repeated once Diaz's third-minute header on the end of Mohamed Salah's cross had found the net.

It was the first time in eight league games that Liverpool scored first, and before long the hosts added a second in the Merseyside sunshine as young Elliot rifled home from the edge of the penalty area.

A third was quickly forthcoming, and worth the wait for an expectant Anfield, with Alexander-Arnold firing an unstoppable strike into the net, while there was more than an element of fortune about Liverpool's fourth finished off by Firmino.

In finding the net, the Brazilian became the first Liverpool player to be involved in four goals - three assists and a goal - in the Premier League.

Van Dijk's header meant it was going to be a long second half for the visitors, with the feeling of dread even more prevalent after Mepham's own goal just after the break made it six.

A poor parry from Bournemouth goalkeeper Mark Travers was then punished by Firmino, before Carvalho and Diaz again had supporters calling for 10, with Bournemouth looking decidedly panicked, but it was not to be.

Bournemouth have now conceded more goals (16) in their first four games of a Premier League season than any other side in the competition's history.

"It was a humbling experience what has happened today," Bournemouth coach Scott Parker said.

"We need to make a decision (in the transfer market) and give these players a break. They are struggling for air."

Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo's recent cameo on Sky Sports' pitch-side interaction featuring the likes of Roy Keane, Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher sent fans into a frenzy after they caught wind of their conversation ahead of United's match against Liverpool.

In what was a rather brief exchange of words at the commentary huddle on the outfield, Ronaldo and Keane discussed how he was left out of the starting lineup for the match. In a most curious moment, Keane said, "Benched?" when approached by Ronaldo, who responded by saying, "What do you want me to do?".

Keane beamed, "Get in the team." To which the five-time Ballon d'Or winner retorted by saying, "I know." He subsequently walked away from the huddle to resume his warm-up with the rest of his team.

It is interesting to note that shortly before his exchange with Keane, Ronaldo also blanked Jamie Carragher as the former Liverpool star tried to interact with the Portuguese icon. Ronaldo refused to shake hands with Carragher, preferring to greet and hug Neville before going around him to interact with Keane. The snub could possibly be attributed to the fact that Carragher has been vocally critical of Ronaldo in recent times.

The 44-year-old, however, managed to see the funny side of their interaction, or lack thereof, as he admitted that he was completely blanked by the Manchester United star before breaking into uproarious laughter with the rest of his crew.

Shortly after their pre-game interaction, the Erik ten Haag-led Manchester United went on to record a crucial 2-1 win against Jurgen Klopp's band of speedsters, bouncing back from two opening losses on the trot. After being linked to several big-ticket teams in the Premier League, Portugal midfielder Matheus Nunes on Wednesday joined Wolverhampton Wanderers from Sporting Lisbon on a five-year deal, with option to extend for another year.

Reportedly, Wolves smashed their signing record by shelling out almost $50 million which includes an initial fee of $45 million with $5 million in add-ons. The previous record signing for Wolves was Fabio Silva who was prized for $42 million in 2020.

Under Bruno Lage, Wolves have become a major threat for the big teams, often causing upsets. However, it is Lage's solid playing style that relies on defensive solidity that has brought critical acclaim.

Nunes is expected to play the crucial number eight role and his quality on the ball is expected to help the wolves dictate games from the midfield.

Apart from being good with the ball on his feet, Nunes is an excellent ball-carrier, something that the Wolves had been missing last season. His defensive capabilities are second to none and he could slot easily into the first playing XI.

For a long time, Nunes was expected to move to Merseyside. The plethora of injuries at Liverpool further added fuel to the rumours that Jurgen Klopp might finally authorise the signing of a midfielder, expected to strengthen a squad where a quality no. 8 has been missing.

However, after Liverpool didn't further their interest, Wolves swooped in and within a few days completed the deal.

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has weighed in on the age-old debate of who is the bigger rival for the Red Devils between Manchester City and Liverpool.

The United star, who had an indifferent last season, remarked that it was the rivalry with the Merseyside club that felt much more. Rashford attributed this 'bitter' rivalry to the history that the Reds possess. As for the blue half of Manchester, Rashford stated that he didn't have a lot of reasons to not like them.

"Liverpool. I don't like Liverpool and City. Obviously, Liverpool have history so it is a bit more bitter but, with City, it's like you don't like them but you don't really have a massive reason not to like them. You just grow up and it's two Manchester sides, one wears light blue and one wears red. But the rivalry with Liverpool, it feels much more." said Rashford.

Marcus Rashford explains why he 'hates' bitter rivals Liverpool more than Manchester City

Liverpool was thrashed 4-0 by Manchester United in an exhibition match held at the Rajamangala National Stadium in Bangkok on Tuesday (July 12). Despite the defeat, the Jurgen Klopp-led club still remains one of the strongest contenders for winning the forthcoming EPL season.

Liverpool is currently in Singapore where they next play Crystal Palace, in an exhibition match, at the National Stadium on Thursday (July 14). Ahead of the EPL season 2022/23, The Reds' former captain and a legend of the club Sami Hyypia opined on Mohamed Salah's extension, thrashing at the hands of new-look Manchester United in Bangkok, team's strengths and rivalry with Man City.

Sami, a former club captain who was part of Liverpool's victorious Champions League campaign in 2004-05, interacted with WION's Sports Editor Digvijay Singh Deo and shared insights on many aspects. Firstly, he played down Liverpool's 4-0 loss vs Man United and said, "Yeah, everyone knows how big the rivalry is. I won't be too worried about the result. Everyone knows the circumstances under which we played. At United, there is a new manager. He wants to be successful straightaway so these friendlies are more important for him. I won't be too worried about this loss. I am sure Liverpool will be ready once the Premier League starts."

Regarding Mohamed Salah, Hyypia lavished huge praise on the 30-year-old Egyptian footballer and said, "He is a great player. One of the best players. He has shown that for many years. I'm glad he is staying here at Liverpool. When he performs like that, it is good for him as well as Liverpool. When Salah came on (in Bangkok), it looked like he had trained for a long long time. His fitness isn't a concern. He came from a holiday. Maybe that was more of a mental holiday. But, he seemed to be in good shape."

32 clean sheets in 63 games last season. Thus, without a doubt, a lot of Liverpool's success boils down to their defence and goalkeeper. In this regard, Hyypia said, "It is a great record. That department is well-equipped at the moment. We had a bit of a problem last year, with the central defence's injury, but now that department is sorted. Allison (Becker) is a world-class goalkeeper and he saved us many times last season. He made game-winning saves. In every department, maybe we are better than last season. I know Sadio Mane left for Bayern Munich but when a player wants to leave you can't force him to stay. If they aren't happy, so move on. Overall, even in that department, we are well-equipped."

It seems to be a two-horse race -- between Liverpool vs Man City -- for the top-two berth in the upcoming EPL season as well. Commenting on this, the 48-year-old veteran told, "I don't know if it is the biggest rivalry. There is a rivalry then it is all about good recruitment. It means a great atmosphere has been created. Each player knows his role. That has been great to see. The scouting department has also been great for Liverpool. They have been spot-on. They are doing an important job. It looks great. I don't think next season there will be anyone to challenge those two (Man City and Liverpool). Chelsea, and Arsenal would want to be in a position where Man City are, however, I don't think they will challenge them both."

Liverpool will look to go the distance and end with the EPL championship after ending second in the last edition. They begin their campaign versus Fulham on August 6.

An enquiry by the French Senate into crowd chaos at this year's Champions League final in Paris concluded that organisers were to blame, not supporters, undermining claims by the police and Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin. A fact-finding mission led by two senators was set up after the Liverpool-Real Madrid game on May 28 which was marred by a delayed kick-off, crushes, teargas and street crime.

The investigation concluded that the problems were caused by a "string of dysfunctions" including a lack of preparation by French authorities and European football body UEFA, as well as poorly executed security arrangements.

"These dysfunctions were at every level, not only during the implementation but also during preparations in advance," the co-chair of+the enquiry Laurent Lafon told reporters at a press conference.

The final report contradicted repeated statements from Darmanin that Liverpool fans were mostly responsible, with the minister claiming that up to 40,000 of them travelled to the stadium either with no tickets or with fake ones.

"The first statements (by the minister) do not match up with reality," Francois-Noel Buffet, a fellow co-chair of the investigation, told reporters.

"It was not because there were Liverpool supporters who travelled with their team that things went badly," Lafon added, noting that thousands of fans without tickets had been welcomed in fanzones set up in the French capital.

Those with tickets struggled to travel to the stadium because of a transport strike, then found themselves in bottlenecks and crushes at the entry gates.

Faced with the build up of frustrated crowds around the Stade de France, police used tear gas and pepper spray to move them back, affecting many children as well as disabled fans in wheelchairs.

After the game, supporters were preyed on by local gangs as they made their way to local transport connections, with many reporting pickpocketing, muggings and threats as the police looked on.

The televised events were a national embarrassment and are thought to have influenced parliamentary elections in June when President Emmanuel Macron lost his majority.

They caused alarm bells just a year from the start of rugby World Cup, which will be held in France, and the 2024 Paris Olympics. Darmanin survived a recent government reshuffle and has been given extra responsibility as interior minister despite his claims, which caused fury in Liverpool and tensions with the British government.

Liverpool football club is particularly sensitive to the scapegoating of its fans after they were falsely blamed for the Hillsborough stadium disaster in Sheffield in 1989.

Supporters' group Spirit of Shankly thanked the Senate on Wednesday for "welcoming the testimonies of fans and consequently vindicating them from any responsibility," but said this was not enough.

"We want a full apology from the French government with a complete retraction of the lies purported on their behalf on and since 28 May 2022, and will continue to lobby to achieve it," it said in a statement.

Darmanin, a law-and-order hardliner, issued his first partial apology at the end of June, telling RTL radio: "Should things have been managed better at the Stade de France (stadium)? The answer is yes. Am I partly responsible? The answer is yes."

The head of the Paris police, Didier Lallement, admitted during a Senate hearing on June 9 that security operations had been a "failure" and offered his excuses to fans who were unable to attend the game.

But he defended the use of teargas to move fans back from the stadium, saying there was "no other way." The Senate commission did not recommend any sanctions against the police or Darmanin.

"The role of a commission like ours is not to call for the resignation of someone in the government," Buffet explained.

Instead, its final report made a series of recommendations to authorities to improve security arrangements at major sporting events.

France is to host the Rugby World Cup next year and the Olympics in 2024. The Senate report recommended that the police draw up clearer guidelines for the use of teargas and adopt other crowd-control methods such as greater use of mounted officers and water cannons.

Authorities have also been under pressure to explain why security camera footage from the stadium was not saved, removing a potentially vital source of information for investigators.

"The images will always be missing. That's our biggest regret," Buffet said.

European football body UEFA is also conducting a parallel investigation into the debacle which came after France offered to host the game when it was stripped from Russia over Moscow's invasion of Ukraine.

Not Liverpool supporters! French enquiry blames organisers for chaos during Champions League final

Manchester United beat Liverpool 4-0 in a friendly at the Rajamangala National Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand. For more on this, our sports editor Digvijay Singh Deo holds an exclusive conversation with football expert and coach Matt Holland, listen in.

Manchester United crush Liverpool 4-0 in Bangkok

Manchester United remains the most successful English Premier League (EPL) team, having won the elite championship for most times (20). Nonetheless, they have struggled to move past the Sir Alex Ferguson era and have been a pale shadow of themselves, especially in the last few seasons.

In the last EPL season, Man United brought back Cristiano Ronaldo and assembled a star-studded line-up, however, still finished sixth and missed out on champions league football for 2022-23. With the upcoming edition to kick off soon, the new manager Erik ten Hag has a lot riding on his shoulders to turn the fortunes of the premier club. On Tuesday (July 12), Ronaldo-less United locked horns with Liverpool in what was an exhibition football match, held at the Rajamangala National Stadium in Bangkok.

Amid all this, Wion's Sports Editor Digvijay Singh Deo caught hold of Andy Cole -- one of the all-time greats of EPL and Man United legend -- ahead of the friendly encounter between the Red Devils and Liverpool. The two spoke on what needs to be done for the most successful team to get back to its usual standards.

Cole -- who is the third-highest goal-scorer of all-time (187) in Premier League history -- ended with 121 goals in 275 appearances for United. Cole -- who has won a solitary CL title and five league titles with the Red Devils -- wants the forthcoming EPL season to be 'about progression of the club' and has his 'fingers crossed' for the same along with several other ardent fans of the Harry Maguire-led line-up.

Talking about the friendly tie between United and Liverpool, the former romped past their opposition in 4-0 with Jadon Sancho, Fred, Anthony Martial and Facundo Pellistri being the goal-scorers.

Exclusive: Need to close the gap with Man City and Liverpool, says Man United's legend Andy Cole

Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville has taken a dig at arch-rivals Liverpool after the club extended Mohammed Salah's contract, offering him a new three-year contract with a staggering pay rise. Salah will become the highest-paid player in Liverpool's history after penning a new three-year deal with a salary of reportedly more than £350,000 per week.

The 30-year-old has been one of Liverpool's best players since joining the club from Italian Club AS Roma in 2017. He has been scoring goals consistently and is already among the all-time top-scorers for Liverpool. Salah was in talks with Liverpool for several months as his contract was nearing its end.

However, the Egyptian was demanding a huge pay rise which made it difficult for Liverpool to decide on extending his contract. His previous contract was set to expire next year but Salah has now penned a deal which will keep him at Liverpool till 2025 making him the highest-earning player in their squad at present.

Reacting to Salah's contract extension at Liverpool, Manchester United legend Neville suggested the star forward had 'played' the club and hinted that Salah, who had initially refused to sign a contract extension, did so to get a lucrative contract from the club.

Salah was reportedly holidaying in Mykonos amid the ongoing break and the Liverpool executives flew to the island in Greece to negotiate the contract extension with the star forward. Liverpool eventually had to bow down to Salah's demands despite their strict wage structure and fears that his new contract might propel other top players in the team to demand similar wages.

The Paris police chief said on Thursday that he might have been wrong when he said up to 40,000 Liverpool fans tried enter the Champions League final with fake tickets and that there was no scientific evidence to support the claim.

Didier Lallement added during a hearing in the French Senate that the police action around the match between Liverpool and Real Madrid at the Stade de France was a "failure" both because fans were harmed and the image of France was degraded. The final, which Liverpool lost 1-0, was delayed by more than 30 minutes after police officers forcefully held back people trying to enter the ground. Riot police sprayed tear gas on fans, including women and children.

French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said that much of the blame lay with Liverpool fans and that 30,000-40,000 arrived without valid tickets, which led to a crowd crush at the stadium and people trying to force their way in. He was later backed by President Emmanuel Macron.

Darmanin`s version of events has been challenged by Liverpool fans who attended and say the vast majority of their supporters were well-behaved but were treated in a heavy-handed manner by French riot police. "I might have been wrong on the figure of 30,000 to 40,000 thousand (fans with fake tickets) I gave to the (interior) minister," said Lallement.

"From an operational standpoint, it doesn`t change anything if it was around 40,000 or 30,000 or 20,000," Lallement said. French senators pushed Lallement to explain the empirical evidence behind the figure for fake tickets, which he said had come through reports from police officials on the ground. "It was I who gave this figure to the Minister, and I fully stand by it," he added.

During the parliamentary hearing, Lallement said he was the only one responsible for police action during the crowd trouble around the Stade of France, which is located just outside Paris. Liverpool`s metro mayor Steve Rotheram, who attended the final, during which he said he was robbed, was due to give testimony to senators later on Thursday.

UCL final chaos: Paris Police chief admits possible error on ticket fakes

Real Madrid have demanded answers from organisers over measures taken to protect supporters at last weekend`s Champions League soccer final against Liverpool in Paris, which was marred by crowd trouble.
The match, which Real won 1-0, was delayed by more than 30 minutes after officers forcefully held back people trying to enter the Stade de France.

Real Madrid demand answers after UCL final marred by crowd trouble

France`s sports minister said on Monday that Liverpool fans without valid tickets were responsible for the initial crowd problems at the Champions League final, with the problem then exacerbated by local youths trying to force their way into the game. The crowd trouble at the match in Paris has become a political issue ahead of French parliamentary elections in mid-June, and the sports ministry was due to meet with police and soccer officials later on Monday.

Some far-right politicians such as Eric Zemmour said the crowd trouble at Saturday`s Champions League final between Liverpool and Real Madrid was caused principally by local youths from the nearby Seine Saint-Denis suburb. "What we really have to bear in mind is that what happened first of all was this mass gathering of British supporters of the Liverpool club, without tickets, or with fake tickets," French Sports Minister Amelie Oudea-Castera said.

"When there are that many people by the entrance to the stadium, there will be people trying to force their way in through the doors of the Stade de France, and a certain number of youths from the nearby area who were present tried to get in by mixing in with the crowd," she told French radio RTL. The match had to be delayed by 35 minutes after police tried to hold back people attempting to force their way into the national stadium without tickets, while some ticket holders complained that they were not let in.

Television footage showed images of young men who did not appear to be wearing red Liverpool jerseys jumping the gates of the stadium and running away from security to get into the match. Others outside, including children, were tear-gassed by riot police, said a Reuters witness. Chris Philp, Britain`s minister for technology, said he was shocked by the images.

"I was horrified to see those pictures of fans including children, disabled fans, being pepper-sprayed by French police," he added. "And from the pictures I saw there was no obvious justification for that kind of behaviour." The chaotic scenes were branded a national embarrassment in France, which is due to host the 2023 Rugby World Cup and the 2024 Olympic Games.

Liverpool Chief Executive Billy Hogan said the club wanted a "transparent investigation" by governing body UEFA. Britain`s minister for sport, Nadine Dorries, also urged UEFA to investigate. Oudea-Castera said that there were no problems with Real Madrid supporters at Saturday`s match and that the Spanish side had managed to control their travelling fans better than Liverpool.

She added that France nevertheless had to examine stepping up security at high-risk soccer matches, with further trouble having broken out on Sunday after St Etienne were relegated from France`s Ligue 1.

Klopp is confident that Liverpool will come back stronger; tells Reds fans to 'book hotel' for next UCL final

Real Madrid secured a record-extending 14th European Cup when they beat Liverpool 1-0 in a Champions League final delayed for more than half an hour after police tried to stop people trying to force their way into the Stade de France on Saturday.

Vinicius Junior scored just before the hour with Real's first attempt on goal and their goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois made several fine saves to deny Liverpool, who end the season with two domestic cups having also failed to win the Premier League.

In a battle of European heavyweights, Juergen Klopp's side had more chances but lacked sharpness when it mattered as Carlo Ancelotti became the first coach to enjoy four European Cup triumphs having won the trophy with AC Milan and Real twice, leapfrogging Liverpool's Bob Paisley and Real's Zinedine Zidane.

"I am a record man. I had luck to come here last year and have a fantastic season. A fantastic club, a really good squad with a lot of quality and mental character," said Ancelotti of a team who came from behind against Paris St Germain, Chelsea and Manchester City to reach the final.

It was LaLiga titleholders Real's fourth Champions League crown in seven years as they improved their impressive record in the competition with their eighth victory in as many finals.

Liverpool were looking for their seventh European Cup triumph but despite their best efforts they were left in awe of Courtois's sublime performance.

"In the dressing room nobody feels it was a great season at this moment," said Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp, whose team beat Chelsea on penalties in the FA Cup and League Cup.

"We played a good game, not a perfect game, but I don't think a perfect game would have been possible the way the opponent was set up with a deep formation.

"We had a lot of shots but not the clearest and Thibaut Courtois made two top saves."

The final was to be played in St Petersburg but European soccer governing body UEFA relocated it to Paris after Russia's invasion of Ukraine, which Moscow calls a 'special operation'.

LIVERPOOL PRESS

Liverpool started the game by pushing high up the pitch, looking to quickly feed their full backs, and the pressure on the Real back line became immense.

Mo Salah was picked out by Trent Alexander-Arnold in the box but Courtois stretched to deny the Egyptian.

Sadio Mane came much closer when he ghosted past Eder Militao and Casemiro before his fierce attempt was tipped onto the post by the excellent Courtois in the 21st minute.

Liverpool, however, were not incisive enough in attack and Real's only chance of the first half gave Liverpool a huge scare but Karim Benzema's effort was ruled out after the Video Assistant Referee ruled that he was offside, being played in by Federico Valverde despite Fabinho's deflection.

Liverpool were back at it early in the second half but Real soaked up the pressure until they struck in the 59th minute.

It started when Luka Modric turned smartly away from Andy Robertson to create space and ended with Valverde's pinpoint driven pass across to the far post being turned in by Vinicius.

Courtois then dived to superbly tip Salah's curled attempt away to keep Real ahead.

The Belgian keeper was impeccable again to deny Salah 10 minutes from time before his delighted team mates jumped into his arms to show their gratitude at the final whistle.

"We had a lot of shots but not the clearest and Thibaut Courtois made two top saves." The final was to be played in St Petersburg but European soccer governing body UEFA relocated it to Paris after Russia's invasion of Ukraine, which Moscow calls a 'special operation'. The game started after a 35-minute delay following incidents outside the stadium when fans were tear-gassed by riot police as people without tickets tried to force their way in. [L1N2XK09D] Liverpool had won the previous European Cup final both teams had played in Paris, winning 1-0 at the Parc des Princes in 1981, which was Real's last defeat in a final. Liverpool were the slight favourites on Saturday but Real beat the Merseyside club for the second time in a row after their 3-1 victory in 2018. Real Madrid beat Liverpool 1-0 in Champions League final

Liverpool left back Andy Robertson labelled the organisation of Saturday`s Champions League final against Real Madrid a "shambles" after kick-off was delayed for 35 minutes due to fans trying to force their way into the Stade de France in Paris.

Riot police fired teargas at fans as chaos ensued near the Liverpool end of the ground, which governing body UEFA said was caused by fake tickets that did not work in the turnstiles.

Robertson said a friend was denied entry to the game, which Real won 1-0 to claim a record-extending 14th European Cup.

"One of my mates got told it was a fake, which I assure you it wasn`t. It was a shambles really," the 28-year-old told the BBC. "To be honest, people were just making it up at times and panicking. Teargas getting thrown at people was unacceptable."

Liverpool have demanded an official investigation into the incident and said they were hugely disappointed at the entry issues faced by their supporters.

"It was horrendous for our fans and all families that have been through it as well. It wasn`t a nice experience, not a nice final to come to. The Champions League should be a celebration but it wasn`t that," Robertson said.

The final was moved from St Petersburg to Paris by UEFA following Russia`s invasion of Ukraine, which Moscow calls a "special military operation".

Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp said the families of some players struggled to get into the stadium.
"What I heard is that we will have further investigations to figure out what was going on there. I heard a few things that were not good, not nice," the German said.

"Obviously it was pretty tricky out there, but I don`t know more about it."
