The results of the Jharkhand Assembly election will be announced on Monday. All arrangements are in place for the counting of votes tomorrow morning.

According to the C-Voters, JMM, Congress and RJD will retain 35 seats. It has, however, given 32 seats to the ruling BJP, 5 to AJSU and three to the Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) and six to others.

Another exit poll has shown the BJP going to trail behind the Congress. It has given JMM-led opposition between 38 and 50 seats and the BJP between 22 and 32 seats. It has predicted 3 to 5 seats for the AJSU party, 2 to 4 seats for the JVM-P, and 4 to 7 seats to others.

According to the Election Commission of India, the approximate voter turnout for all the 81 assembly constituencies across the five phases was 65.17 per cent as compared to the 66.53 per cent recorded in the 2014 elections.In 2014, the BJP had a clear majority in the House with 37 seats, while its ally AJSU managed to win five Assembly seats.

Incumbent Chief Minister Raghubar Das is seeking a second five-year term. The BJP leader has also become the first chief minister of the state to complete a full term in the office.

In midst of the nationwide chorus against NRC and high-profile campaign by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah on national issues in Jharkhand, Congress continues to press on with its low-profile campaign in the state.

The low-key Congress campaign is focused on local issues and has avoided taking Modi-Shah combine on any of the polarising statements. A functionary closely associated with the election campaign told WION that the Jharkhand campaign took the cue from the Chhattisgarh elections where Congress swept the state. Chhattisgarh also witnessed a very low-key campaign unlike Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan in 2018.

Congress has picked up the issue of land acquisition and promised to return the land to the tribal's under a new scheme. The campaign is also focused on the issue of malnourishment, death of children due to lack of food, women safety and unemployment. Congress has also taken special care not to get tripped by the Pathalgadi rebellion issue which led to largescale violence in the state.

Like Chhattisgarh, procurement price for rice and farmers' loan has been a prominent part of the election campaign. Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel too was looped into the campaign by the Jharkhand Congress. Congress is a junior partner to Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) in the state. This time the Congress ensured that it settles seats even if it didn’t suit their interest in order to stitch the alliance. JMM is contesting in 43 seats, Congress 31 and RJD in 7 seats in the state.

Congress secured a mere 10.60 per cent of votes in 2014 assembly elections whereas the BJP secured 31.80 per cent of votes. Even in the Lok Sabha elections of 2014 and 2019, BJP secured 40.71 per cent and 51.61 per cent of votes.

The data shows that there was a dip of 10 per cent of votes immediately after the Lok Sabha elections even in 2014. Similarly, BJP’s vote share dipped in the Haryana assembly election in 2019. This has made small parties like JMM and Congress slightly confident. Though BJP remains the dominant party in Jharkhand, it does not have friends in the local set up. Congress, on the other hand, is heavily banking on 26 per cent of Adivasis and 14 per cent of Muslim votes for electoral success.

Earlier in the day, one person died and three others were injured during firing by security forces outside a polling booth in Gumla, said Vishnu Dev Chaudhary, police in-charge Sisai Gumla district.

Police resorted to firing after a minor clash broke between them and the locals outside booth number 36 of Sisai constituency in Gumla where polling for the second phase of Assembly elections is underway.

The problem began when people got angry due to the delay in voting.

Due to security reasons, polling at 18 constituencies, barring Jamshedpur East and Jamshedpur West, will be held between 7 am and 3 pm.

In the other two Assembly seats, the voters can cast their ballot till 5 pm.

Other constituencies where polling is underway are Khunti, Mandar, Sisai, Majhgaon, Manoharpur, Saraikela, Chaibasa, Baharagora, Ghatsila, Potka, Simdega, Kolebira, Kharsawaan, Tamar, Jagannathpur and Torpa.

Six of these Assembly constituencies witnessing polling are located in East Singhbum district where the district administration and senior police officers have taken all preventive measures to conduct the poll in a peaceful and fair manner.

The BJP leader counted some important legislations brought by the Central government including the abrogation of Article 370 and Triple Talaq and credited a "strong leadership" for doing this.

Nadda said that the Triple Talaq was abolished in several Islamic countries as well. Taking a dig at the Congress-JMM alliance, Nadda said this alliance is only for the "chair" and that it has nothing to do with development and people of Jharkhand.

The BJP leader also referred to the money allocated to Jharkhand under the 14th Finance Commission and said that the amount was much higher than given to the state under 13th Finance Commission.

Talking about the defence preparedness, the working BJP president said, "Not a single gun was bought during UPA tenure. The demand of 'One Rank, One Pension'&nbsp;was pending since 1971. When we came to power, we gave OROP to 22 lakh faujis. 36 Rafales are being inducted into our fleet. 1.83 lakhs bullet-proof jackets have been provided to the military. Not just that, we are even exporting that to the world," he said.

Referring to the various welfare schemes launched by the Central and state government for farmers, Nadda said, "When we talk of double engine government..we don't that just for speeches."

He also talked in detail about the various other welfare schemes launched by the government and how they have benefited the people.

Jharkhand assembly polls: LJP announces to contest on 50 seats

Former Jharkhand Congress president Ajoy Kumar joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the presence of senior party leader and Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia here on Thursday.

After being inducted into the party, Kumar said AAP is the answer to today's politics.

"Common people like us should come forward and cooperate in honest politics and politics of good governance. AAP is the answer to today's politics. I thank Manish Ji, Arvind Ji (Kejriwal), Saurabh Ji (Bharadwaj) and Durgesh Ji (Pathak) for inducting me into the party," said Kumar, a former 1986-batch IPS officer.

Lauding AAP for its policies, Kumar said that people from Jharkhand and Bihar, who are residing in Delhi, are getting benefited.

"You are all aware of AAP's policies on health, education, water, and electricity. If you see Jharkhand and Bihar, the poor, middle-class people who are in Delhi and those who are doing their job here are getting benefited. Parents are now sending their children to government schools instead of private schools," the 57-year-old leader said.

Asked about his role in AAP in the forthcoming Jharkhand Assembly polls, Kumar remarked, "I have joined today. I will have to wait for the party to assign any responsibility to me."

In August, Kumar had resigned from the post of Jharkhand Congress president.

He was elected to the Lok Sabha in July 2011 in a mid-term election on a ticket of Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik).

"When Article 370 and 35A were removed, Congress opposed it tooth and nail. Rahul Gandhi opposed surgical strikes, sought proof of airstrikes and supported the JNU 'tukde tukde' gang. Take a decision in which direction you want to move," he said.

Shah said that the BJP has always maintained that Article 370 is against the unity and integrity of India but Congress has always opposed the stand.

"Congress party must clarify whether they stand with India's interest or otherwise," he said adding that when Rahul Gandhi goes for campaigning in Haryana, Maharashtra and Jharkhand, he should tell the voters whether he is in support of the removal of Article 370 or opposed to it.

Suggesting the opposition that when the country's interests are in question, Shah said the <a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-news/bjp-eyes-200-seats-in-west-bengal-249864">BJP</a> always stood strong with the government on matters of the nation's security and integrity and stressed that no one should get bogged down by party politics.

He reminded the Congress that former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, despite being in opposition, wholeheartedly supported the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1971 when Bangladesh got independence.

"When in the 1990s, Pakistan had raised the Kashmir issue in the United Nations, the then Prime Minister Narasimha Rao requested Atal Ji to present India's stance in UN, which he accepted willingly despite being in the opposition in Parliament," Shah said.

"As the elections are around the corner, the people of Jharkhand should decide whether they are with Modi Ji, who abrogated Article 370 or with them who wants it to be continued," the BJP president added.

Jharkhand, along with Haryana and Maharashtra, is set to hold assembly elections later this year.

Earlier, Shah hailed Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das and appealed to the people to elect the BJP back to power to keep the fast-paced development going on in the state.

He also hit out at the Congress and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) led opposition's alliance and claimed that when both were in power they did nothing for the state's development.

"The Congress gave Jharkhand Rs 55,200 crores in 10 years but the Modi government gave Rs 1,45,345 crores in half the period," Shah said.

"By removing Article 370, Modi Ji has shown Pakistan its place and shown it to the world that Kashmir is an inalienable part of India. No one can raise an eye on Kashmir now," he said. Accusing Congress of putting roadblocks when the Prime Minister takes bold decisions for securing India's integrity and security, Shah asked Congress to clarify whether it stands with India's interest or otherwise. "When Article 370 and 35A were removed, Congress opposed it tooth and nail. Rahul Gandhi opposed surgical strikes, sought proof of airstrikes and supported the JNU 'tukde tukde' gang. Take a decision in which direction you want to move," he said. Shah said that the BJP has always maintained that Article 370 is against the unity and integrity of India but Congress has always opposed the stand. "Congress party must clarify whether they stand with India's interest or otherwise," he said adding that when Rahul Gandhi goes for campaigning in Haryana, Maharashtra and Jharkhand, he should tell the voters whether he is in support of the removal of Article 370 or opposed to it. Suggesting the opposition that when the country's interests are in question, Shah said the BJP always stood strong with the government on matters of the nation's security and integrity and stressed that no one should get bogged down by party politics. He reminded the Congress that former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, despite being in opposition, wholeheartedly supported the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1971 when Bangladesh got independence. "When in the 1990s, Pakistan had raised the Kashmir issue in the United Nations, the then Prime Minister Narasimha Rao requested Atal Ji to present India's stance in UN, which he accepted willingly despite being in the opposition in Parliament," Shah said. "As the elections are around the corner, the people of Jharkhand should decide whether they are with Modi Ji, who abrogated Article 370 or with them who wants it to be continued," the BJP president added. Atal Ji laid the foundation and Modi Ji brought fast-paced development in Jharkhand. Modi Ji's vision for a developed Jharkhand was implemented seamlessly by the Raghubar Das government," the BJP president said.

The Prime Minister also announced that the Centre will soon inaugurate a major project for the uplift of tribal children and added that several Eklavya model residential schools will be set up across the country.

It should be noted that these schools will provide upper primary, secondary, and senior secondary level education to Scheduled Tribe students in tribal-dominated areas.

"Today for the development and education of tribal children and youth, we are starting a very big project. We are setting up 462 Eklavya model residential schools across the country," he said.

The Prime Minister also talked about the work undertaken by the government for improving the connectivity of the region, "Even in terms of connectivity, a lot of work is being done in Jharkhand. Now, the roads are being built in areas where people never walked during the night."

"Our government is working towards providing social security to each and every Indian," the Prime Minister added.

He promised to make India corruption-free and said that the guilty will be shown their place.

"A massive crackdown on corruption has begun. Those people who will try to loot the public will be shown their right places."

On the 73rd Independence Day, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) officer Harshpal Singh, who is slated to receive the peacetime gallantry medal - Kirti Chakra today, recalled how he eliminated three Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) <a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-news/jammu-and-kashmir-terrorists-attack-police-party-in-anantnag-three-crpf-personnel-one-terrorist-killed-226570">terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir</a> last year.

Singh, a Deputy Commandant in the CRPF has won five gallantry awards since 2004 when he joined the CRPF.

"On September 12, 2018, we received an input that three JeM had fired at a police post and forged into a nearby jungle. To hunt them down, our team, along with the local police, launched a cordon and search operation in the area," said Singh, reminiscing the incident, which took place near the Mata Vaishno Devi University in Jammu's Jhajjar-Kotli.

The team took a sigh of relief when an informer told them that the terrorists were hiding in a house, with only a door and grilled window.

"We were relieved as the house had only one exit. The next morning, as we were advancing towards the spot, we got fired upon. As we had no cover, we crawled through to the house, from where they were firing. Next, we decided that one of us would go forward and do targetted firing at the door of the house to detest them from coming out of it," said Singh.

As a commander, Singh advanced and took cover behind a tree. "As I started firing, one of the terrorists, standing behind the door, got hit," he added.

As Singh, along with the team was contemplating what to do next, a bullet hit his shoulder.

Unfazed by the bleeding, he decided to stay at the spot and fire at the door.

"Had I left the spot at that point, the terrorists would have caused collateral damage to the people of the village," said Singh, with a gleaming smile.

As a last measure, they threw 2-3 grenades at us, which fell 8-10 metres away from me.&nbsp;

My left side got badly injured and I started bleeding profusely, he recalled.

"I came out of the cover of the tree and fired at the door again and killed the second terrorist. Later, another team took cover and killed the third terrorist. No villagers were hurt and the operation was completed," Singh said.

Harshpal Singh, who is the only CRPF Personnel to be awarded Kirti Chakra, thanked his team members for trusting in him during the counter-terrorist operation.

Singh has won several gallantry awards and is currently posted in Chhattisgarh's Dantewada district.

In 2008, he received his first award for neutralising five Naxals in the Hazaribagh area.

In 2014, he killed a Naxal with two lakh bounty on his head in Chhattisgarh`s Kunti area.

In 2015, he was awarded Police Medal (Gallantry) for killing the Naxal Zonal Commander in Kunti.&nbsp;

Later that year, he was accorded CM medal from in Jharkhand.

Soren is Jharkhand Mukti Morcha`s (JMM), acting president. The meeting scheduled to take place on Saturday in the national capital will be attended by AICC general secretary KC Venugopal and Congress general secretary in-charge of Jharkhand, RPN Singh.&nbsp;

The main agenda of the meeting would be about the alliance as Congress leaders are not keen to announce the Chief Minister candidate before Jharkhand Assembly polls, which are due to be held by the end of this year.

Soren wants to be declared as the chief ministerial candidate for the upcoming polls in the state, however, seniors Congress leader Subodh Kant Sahay and Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (JVM) leader Babu Lal Marandi have opposed the idea.

Yesterday, two factions of the state Congress unit owing allegiance respectively to former Union minister and senior Congress leader Subodh Kant Sahay as well as Ajoy Kumar were involved in a fight outside the party office.

The police had to intervene separate the two groups. Congress Jharkhand unit has been in the state of disarray since the party suffered a humiliating defeat in the 17th Lok Sabha elections.&nbsp;

Taking the onus for its electoral defeat Congress` state party president Ajoy Kumar offered to resign from the party post.

The Congress had fought on seven seats in alliance with the JMM, RJD and JVM-P in the polls. The Congress won the Singhbhum seat and JMM won the Rajmahal seat.

In a shocking incident, a three-year-old girl was raped and beheaded by two people in Jamshedpur in Jharkhand.

According to police officials, her headless body was found from the Telco police station area in Jamshedpur on Tuesday night. Police have arrested three persons, including two accused.

The head of the girl is yet to be recovered. The girl had gone missing from the Tatanagar railway station on July 25 and after scanning the CCTV footage, police zeroed in on the accused Rinku, who was seen walking away with the girl who was sleeping with her mother at the railway station.

Rinku and his associate Kailash Kumar were then arrested by the police. According to her postmortem reports, she had injuries on her private parts.

The accused have confessed that they raped the girl and then beheaded her on July 26, said officials.&nbsp;
