<p>The pandemic has killed close to 250,000 people in India.&nbsp;The drop in positive cases is a promising sign.&nbsp;However, it cannot be said India has touched the peak. The country's positivity rate remains around 21 per cent, which means more than one out of five people are testing positive.</p>

<p>India needs to bring down the positivity rate to less than five per cent. Only then&nbsp;it will have the second wave be under control.</p>

<p>India needs to test more. On Sunday, India had conducted just 1.47 million tests which is the lowest this month. Monday was an improvement with over 1.8 million tests conducted in the last 24 hours.</p>

<p>In the past two weeks, India has conducted more than 1.9 million tests in a day multiple times. However, the vaccination curve has peaked. The vaccinations were on a high in April.</p>

<p>India has been administering close to two million doses a day with over 170 million shots given so far and just 2.7 per cent of India's population has got both shots.</p>

<p>Maharashtra has stopped vaccination for those above 18. The state says it will only inoculate those above 45 years of age because it does not have enough doses even as the Centre has asked state governments to prioritise those waiting for their second jab.</p>

<p>The Hamas terror group gave away a family of four, including a 10-month-old baby, to another Palestine-based terror organisation in Gaza instead of freeing them, the Israeli Defence Force (IDF) claimed, stoking tensions amongst relatives.</p>

<p>The Bibas family was kidnapped from Kibbutz Nir Oz when the Hamas militants rampaged through the Israeli cities bordering the Gaza Strip on October 7.</p>

<p>The family comprised parents Yarden Bibas, 34, and Shiri, 32, and their sons four-year-old Ariel, and 10-month-old baby Kfir, Times of Israel newspaper reported.</p>

<p>While it was expected that they would be among the freed Israelis from Gaza, the Israeli military said that the delay in their release has dampened hopes amidst the truce, which is supposed to see another 20 Israeli hostages freed in exchange for 60 Palestinian inmates.</p>

<h2><strong>Held in southern Gaza</strong></h2>

<p>Taking to social media X, IDF Arabic-language spokesman Avichai Adraee said the family is currently being held in the southern Gaza city of Khan Younis.</p>

<p>“Children and babies under the age of one who have not seen the light of day for more than fifty days are being held captive by Hamas, [who] treats some of them like loot and in some places has transferred them to other terrorist organizations in the Gaza Strip,” Adraee wrote.</p>

<p>It was unclear exactly when the transfer occurred or which faction was holding them.</p>

<p>Days after Pakistan batter Azam Khan was fined 50 per cent of his match fee&nbsp;for displaying the Palestinian flag on his bat, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has taken a U-turn on its decision.&nbsp;</p>

<p>PCB on Tuesday (Nov 28) released a statement saying it had reviewed the matter and decided to waive the penalty imposed by the match officials.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Azam Khan's 50 per cent fine imposed by match officials has been reviewed and waived off by the Pakistan Cricket Board," PCB said in a release.&nbsp;</p>

<p>It was during the National T20 Cup 2023-24 match between&nbsp;Karachi Whites and Lahore Blues at the National Stadium in Karachi on Sunday (Nov 26) that Azam was reprimanded for his actions.</p>

<p>They entered Egypt through the Rafah crossing and were then handed over to the Israeli forces.</p>

<p>Nearly more than 100 Palestinian prisoners are scheduled to be released over the coming four days and more may be released if the truce is extended.</p>

<p>Palestinian prisoners released by Israel as part of a four-day truce with Hamas reached home Friday (Nov 24) and were greeted by celebrations in the West Bank.</p>

<p>A total of 39 prisoners were freed on day one of the truce, and reached home to a heroic welcome, with fireworks clouding the night sky and patriotic Palestinian music exalting the atmosphere.</p>

<p>The Israeli Defense Forces has received a second list of hostages who will be released by the Palestinian militant group Hamas on Saturday (Nov 25) under a truce deal, the office of Israel's prime minister wrote in a statement on Friday.</p>

<p>Israel would now commence a four-day pause in fighting in Gaza with the first exchange of hostages likely to take place as early as Thursday (Nov 23), according to the US officials.</p>

<p>Israel would also stop drone overflights for six hours a day. After those days, the pause could be extended a day with each additional 10 hostages Hamas releases.</p>

<p>The Israeli side would also allow the passage to some 300 trucks of aid into Gaza during the days of pause.</p>

<p>Separate Israeli strikes on southern Lebanon on Tuesday (Nov 21) killed eight people, including two journalists working for a Lebanese TV channel and a senior Hamas official, according to Lebanese state media and official sources.</p>

<p>The deaths bring those killed in Lebanon since the beginning of hostilities along the border to more than 80 people, mostly fighters from the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah.</p>

<p>Violence along the border broke out after Hamas's Oct. 7 attack. Israel and Iran-backed Hezbollah - a Hamas ally - have exchanged rocket fire in fighting that has steadily escalated.</p>

<p>Lebanese broadcaster Al Mayadeen said an Israeli strike on Tuesday near the town of Tir Harfa, about a mile from the Israeli frontier, had killed two of its journalists and a third person at the site where they were filming.</p>

<p>Al Mayadeen accused Israel of deliberately targeting the TV crew because the channel was known to be pro-Palestinian and pro-Iran's regional military alliance.</p>

<p>Channel 12 reported that the hostage deal will include the release of around 150 to 300 Palestinian prisoners in Israel, including female and minor prisoners.</p>

<p>However, it is believed that Israel will not free prisoners convicted of murder.</p>

<p>There is also the possibility of&nbsp;Hamas unilaterally releasing&nbsp;Thai citizens, taking the total of up to 80 hostages freed, Jewish Insider reported citing a diplomatic source.</p>

<p>As the war between the state of Israel and Palestinian militant-political group Hamas enters its seventh week with minimal signs of cessation of violence that has caused unprecedented humanitarian crisis in Hamas-run Gaza Strip, the riddle that is Hamas control centre&nbsp;has emerged as top flashpoint of the ongoing war in West Asia.&nbsp;</p>

<p>While Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's administration is attempting to convince the world — by taking selected international journalists to the sites of what it claims are Hamas sanctuaries in Gaza — about Hamas' use of tunnels under Gaza hospitals as launchpads for attacks on Israel, a definitive answer on where is Hamas control centre is yet to emerge.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Besides, the claim that the elaborate web of tunnels in Gaza are the locations where Israel and the US say Hamas is keeping the hostages it took as captive after the attack on Israel on October 7, is dominating the discourse.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Both Netanyahu and the Biden administration say they have evidence that Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad are operating command centres and ammunition depots under hospitals in Gaza, as part of an effort to use civilians using the hospitals as human shields.</p>

<p>But the purported Command Centre&nbsp;is yet to be discovered.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Al-Shifa hospital not a Hamas command centre?</strong></h2>

<p>On Thursday (Nov 18) night, Israel Defense Forces (IDF) led a selected few journalists to show a shaft in the ground with a staircase at Gaza City's largest Al-Shifa hospital.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The shaft had electrical wiring, along with a metal staircase, the New York Times reported.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The military said it had sent a drone down at least several metres into the shaft, which it said was found in the sand on the northern side&nbsp;of the hospital complex.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The local medical staff have denied that the hospital was used as a Hamas command centre.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The opening of the tunnel that was seen at Al-Shifa's grounds could be booby-trapped with bombs that could explode. Such precedent exists. In 2013, six Israeli soldiers were injured when a bomb exploded when they tried to push in a camera into a tunnel in Gaza.&nbsp;</p>

<p>But there are conflicting accounts from the Israeli side itself on where exactly is the Hamas command centre.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert told Euronews that Hamas' underground command centre is based in Khan Yunis, a city in the southern Gaza Strip located about 30 km south of Al-Shifa hospital.</p>

<p>"That's where the real headquarters of Hamas is," he said.</p>

<p>"They have the leadership, they are hiding, they have the bunkers, they have the command positions, they have the launching pads."</p>

<p>Khan Younis is the largest city in southern Gaza. After Israel gave ultimatum to the Palestinians in northern Gaza to move towards south, Khan Younis is the place where people fled.</p>

<p>On Friday (Nov 18), Israel Defence Forces (IDF) warned people in some towns of Khan Younis as well to evacuate their homes and move to shelters.</p>

<p>The population of Khan Younis went from 400,000 residents to over a million in the wake of people fleeing towards south.</p>

<p>“With every passing day, there are fewer places where Hamas terrorists can operate,” Israel's Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said, adding that the militants would learn that in southern Gaza “in the coming days."</p>

<p>Besides, since taking over Gaza in 2007, Hamas has invested huge but unspecified amounts of money to revamp the existing tunnel infrastructure and create new ones. The tunnels are used to smuggle weapons, militants, politicians, food and goods necessary to make the rockets often fired into Israel from inside the strip.</p>
