<p>He also said that Pakistan was in talks with Jordan and Egypt to ensure timely aid to Palestinians and evacuation of those wounded in Gaza.</p>

<p>Kakar said Pakistan was making all&nbsp;necessary efforts to highlight the plight of the Palestinians on various global forums and would continue to do so in future.</p>

<p>Notably, the flight test of the second iteration of Fatah MLRS comes over two years after Fatah-1 was launched in August 2021. At the time, ISPR said the rocket system was capable of delivering a conventional warhead.</p>

<p>After Pakistan's jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan's sentence was suspended on Tuesday (August 29) in the Toshakhana case, Shehbaz Sharif reacted on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter. &nbsp;</p>

<p>After the verdict was announced post-hearing on the case, the former premier&nbsp;lashed out at the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP), Umar Ata Bandial saying that he tried saving the "blue-eyed boy" or "Ladley" Imran Khan.&nbsp;</p>

<p>However, he also said that the verdict is not final as the sentence is only "suspended, not terminated".</p>

<p>In a post on X, Sharif wrote, "Chief Justice's message of 'Good to see you'&nbsp;and 'Wishing you good luck'&nbsp;reached Islamabad High Court. Before the decision comes, everyone knows what the decision will be, so it should be a momentary concern for the justice system. If a clear message is received from the higher judiciary, then what else should the subordinate court do?" (English translation of his post on X read)</p>

<p>He further criticised the verdict saying that "the role of justice system will be written in the dark chapter of history".</p>

<p>Shehbaz Sharif also condemned its alleged biases in favour of Imran Khan by drawing parallels with rulings in the Nawaz Sharif case. "A monitoring judge was appointed to ensure the punishment of Nawaz Sharif, the Chief Justice himself became a monitoring judge to save Ladley,"&nbsp;he wrote in his post on X, adding, "Scales tilted to one side and a justice system that undermines justice are not acceptable."&nbsp;</p>

<p>Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has hinted that the elections could be delayed, despite the parliament dissolution&nbsp;scheduled to take place later this month. In an interview, Sharif said elections should be held under the new census. If the new census data is notified, then the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) would be obligated to do new de-limitations, which may push the election timeline. &nbsp;</p>

<p>“We have to hold the elections on the basis of the new census...When a census has been conducted, the [polls] should be held on its basis unless there is an obstacle that cannot be overcome. But I don’t see [any such hurdle],” the PM said.</p>

<p>When quizzed if holding elections, based on the new census will delay the elections or not, Shehbaz dropped the ball in ECP's court saying it was their job.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar on Monday (July 31) also iterated that polls will be delayed by at least three months or 90 days if the fresh census is taken into account.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Meanwhile, ECP has already explicitly expressed its inability to hold the polls based on the latest census results.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“The general elections 2023 for the national and provincial assemblies will be conducted as per the limits of the constituencies published by the Commission on August 5 last year,” a senior ECP official was quoted as saying by Dawn.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The official added that a constitutional amendment would be required following the official publication of census results, which was technically not possible after the acceptance of the resignations of the lawmakers.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“The ECP will have no other option but to hold upcoming general elections on the basis of the existing delimitation,” he added.</p>

<p>During his three-day visit from July 30 to August 1, Vice Premier He, who is also a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, will hold meetings with Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Arif Alvi.</p>

<p>He was received by the Pakistan Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal and Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah at the airport, as well as the officials from the Chinese embassy and Islamabad’s ministry of foreign affairs, according to local media reports.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In a statement released ahead of the Chinese vice premier’s arrival on Saturday, Pakistan’s Foreign Office (FO) said that his visit to Islamabad at the federal government’s invitation played a “prominent role” in China’s international economic relations and implementation of the BRI.&nbsp;<br />

<h2><strong>Bomb blast in Pakistan kills at least 44</strong></h2>

<p>The Chinese official’s visit&nbsp; began on the day that saw a <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/explosion-in-pakistan-claims-the-lives-of-at-least-43-620814">deadly bomb blast</a> at a Jamiat Ulema Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) convention in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bajaur district which has led to the death of at least 44 people and wounded over 200 others.</p>

<p>No group has yet claimed responsibility for the deadly bomb blast, but as per local media reports, the local chapter of the Islamic State (IS) group has carried out attacks against JUI-F in the recent past.</p>

<h2><strong>About CPEC</strong></h2>

<p>Since its initiation in 2013, CPEC has seen $25.4 billion invested into massive transport, energy and infrastructure projects across Pakistan, as per media reports.&nbsp;</p>

<p>However, the countries that share a 596-kilometre border near the Siachen Glacier, have recently witnessed some strain due to the numerous hurdles in recent years which also include disruption of CPEC projects.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Security concerns</strong></h2>

<p>CPEC, which connects Gwadar Port in Pakistan’s Balochistan with China’s Xinjiang province, is opposed by India as it is being laid through Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Additionally, it has also been opposed by the locals who have reportedly claimed that the influx of investment does not benefit them. &nbsp;</p>

<p>Over the years, Baloch separatists have claimed multiple attacks on CPEC projects which has prompted Pakistan to deploy thousands of security personnel to counter threats against Chinese interests.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“Security stands out as the core problem that hinders the realisation of Chinese goals,” Azeem Khalid, assistant professor of international relations at COMSATS University Islamabad told AFP.</p>

<p>He added, “This factor is the primary reason why CPEC has not reached its full functional potential yet.”</p>

<p>Previous attacks on Chinese workers and officials have prompted Pakistan to ramp up security measures this time around. Islamabad also ordered a two-day public holiday to keep people off the streets. Ahead of He’s visit, banners celebrating the anniversary and flags of both countries were put up across Pakistan’s capital.</p>

<p>Rafique added that runaway and navigation operations would not be included in the outsourcing process. The minister emphasised that open competitive bidding would be ensured, allowing the best bidder to be given the opportunity to operate the airport, and the process would be profit oriented which would ultimately benefit the national exchequer.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Twelve to 13 companies showed interest in participating in the bidding process, Rafique also said, adding the bidding would be transparent.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Aviation minister stresses need to restructure PIA</strong></h2>

<p>On Friday, Khawaja Saad Rafique also stressed the need to restructure Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) to address the substantial deficit, which reached 80 billion Pakistani Rupees (around $279 million) this year. The minister asserted that no employees would be laid off, and all existing staff would retain their job security and privileges.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The above developments come as Pakistan is battling an economic crisis with staggering inflation and depleting forex reserves. On July 12, Pakistan's central bank received $1.2 billion from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as the first tranche of a $3 billion bailout to stabilise the economy.</p>

<p>And a day later, the IMF said that its $3 billion bailout was aimed at "immediate efforts" and critical "steadfast policy implementation."</p>

<p>"The new program will anchor the authorities' immediate efforts to stabilize the economy with due protection for the most vulnerable, and also provide a framework for financing from multilateral and bilateral partners to support the Pakistan government's policies," IMF's Director of Communications Julie Kozack said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Steadfast policy implementation is critical in the period ahead, this will be critical for the success of the program and, of course, ultimately to aid and support the people of Pakistan," Kozack added.&nbsp;</p>

Pakistan: Islamabad airport to be outsourced for 15 years, says minister

<p>At least 11 people were killed while six others were injured after a building's wall collapsed due to incessant monsoon rains in Islamabad's Peshawar Road area. The deceased have been identified as labourers and the bodies were recovered from the rubble using machinery, according to a report in&nbsp;<em>Dawn</em>.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Khan Zeb, the superintendent of police for Industrial Area I-9 said rescue teams arrived on the site&nbsp;immediately after receiving the incident alert. He added that the operation was currently underway to recover more people who might still be trapped in the debris.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased were shifted to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims), according to Dr Mubashir Daha, who is the spokesperson for Pims Executive Director Dr Imran Sikander. Daha added that six injured were also brought in, out of which one was discharged while the remaining were out of danger.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>Notably, heavy rainfall has been lashing the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad for the past week.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to Muhammad Tanveer, managing director of the Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa), heavy machinery and personnel have&nbsp;been mobilised to combat the rising water levels in several areas.</p>

<p>“Our primary objective is to drain the excess water and ensure the safety of affected communities. Efforts are focused on swiftly pumping out water from inundated areas and addressing potential hazards posed by the flooding.”</p>

<p>Pakistan Meteorological Department in a statement said the twin cities had experienced rainfall exceeding 60 millimetres, which had caused a flood-like situation.&nbsp;</p>

According to Muhammad Tanveer, managing director of the Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa), heavy machinery and personnel have been mobilised to combat the rising water levels in several areas. “Our primary objective is to drain the excess water and ensure the safety of affected communities. <p>The Shehbaz Sharif government, despite receiving greenlight for the International Monetary Fund (IMF) bailout package, is staring at a bleak economic future with forex reserves plummeting.</p>

<p>Outsourcing the airport's operations is a way to cut flab and keep the economy in stable condition.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Notably, the Econ­omic Coordination Comm­ittee on March 31 decided to start a 25-year outsourcing of operations and land assets at three major airports in the country viz. Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi.</p>

<p>"IFC gave a presentation to the committee which took decisions as to the future roadmap for moving forward for outsourcing of the first airport in order to improve service delivery and match best international practices,” said an ambiguous brief public statement after the meeting.</p>

<p>However, last month, it was decided to restrict the outsourcing of airport operations to a foreign entity to only IIA in the first phase. Others will be outsourced in due course with a subsequent approval process.</p>

<h2><strong>Other changes in the aviation sector&nbsp;</strong></h2>

<p>Not only is the government outsourcing operations at its major airports, but it is also amending civil aviation laws and restructuring Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).&nbsp;</p>

<p>"The amendments are being made to segregate the functions of the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority, PIA and Airports Security Force. The objective is to eliminate overlapping responsibilities of these organisations by enacting ordinances," the publication noted.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Over the last couple of years, PIA has been red-faced after being suspended for controversies regarding pilot degrees and aircraft safety standards. The government is attempting to wipe the slate clean and give a fresh start to the airline.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Continuing his rhetoric of the 'London plan', Pakistan's former prime minister Imran Khan targeted the country's army, alleging that it is conspiring to&nbsp;put him in jail for 10 years under sedition charges.</p>

<p>Since he was ousted in the no-confidence motion in April 2022, Imran Khan has been saying that the Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif-led government is trying to scrap all cases against the country's former premier Nawaz Sharif. Now, changing his pitch a little bit, Imran Khan is claiming that the Pakistan establishment, meaning the army, is trying to put him behind bars for a decade.&nbsp;</p>

<p>This comes after PTI announced that it will file an FIR against Punjab Rangers and National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for planning to 'abduct' Imran Khan from the Islamabad High Court premises.&nbsp;</p>

<p>On early Monday, the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf chief said, "So now the complete London plan is out. Using the pretext of violence while I was inside the jail, they have assumed the role of judge, jury and executioner. The plan now is to humiliate me by putting Bushra Begum (Khan's wife) in jail, and using some sedition law to keep me inside for next 10 years."</p>

<p>The 70-year-old Imran Khan held a meeting with other PTI leaders at his Lahore residence. "To ensure that there is no public reaction, they have done two things -- first deliberate terror is unleashed not just on PTI workers but on common citizens as well. Second, the media is totally controlled and muzzled."</p>

<p>"This is a deliberate attempt to instill so much fear in people that when they come to arrest me tomorrow, people won't come out. And tomorrow they will again suspend internet services and ban social media (which is only partially open). Meanwhile, as we speak, houses are being broken in and shamelessly police are manhandling the women of the houses," he added.</p>

<p>Islamabad High Court granted two-weeks bail to Imran Khan which will end on 17 May.&nbsp;Khan said that he will fight for Haqeeqi Azaadi [rightfull freedom] till the "last drop of my blood because for me death is preferable than to be enslaved by these assortments of crooks."</p>

<p>However, Mazari put up a defiant face at the time of her arrest. At the time of her arrest when she was led to a police car, Mazari held up a victory sign and shouted "victory for democracy."&nbsp;</p>

<p>She also denounced "state terrorism" as unacceptable.</p>

<p>Pakistan's former prime minister Imran Khan was on Friday granted two-week bail by Islamabad High Court in all lawsuits faced by him, including the Al-Qadir Trust case.</p>

<p>Khan was granted bail by a division bench comprising Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb and Justice Saman Rafat Imtiaz in the Al-Qadir Trust case after the bail plea of the PTI chief was heard at courtroom No.2.</p>

<p>The court further stated that the authorities cannot arrest Khan in any case registered after May 9 till May 17.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The bail was granted a day after Khan's arrest from the IHC premises was termed as “invalid and unlawful" by the Supreme Court.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"The court has granted Imran Khan a two weeks interim bail and has directed the authorities not to arrest him in the (graft) case," said Khan's lawyer Khawaja Haris while speaking to reporters.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>Khan's lawyer also said that a plea has been submitted by them for the handover of Khan's mobile phone and for providing&nbsp;bulletproof vehicles to the leader for his security.&nbsp;</p>

<p>PTI lawyers gathered in large numbers in front of the court before the hearing and shouted "Khan your devotees are countless" and "the lawyers are alive", as the leader raised his fist above his head. However, the legal troubles for Khan don't seem to end soon.&nbsp;</p>

Agitated protesters are present at several places with stones, slingshots, sticks and petrol bombs. The situation in Islamabad is peaceful and roads are open. Wherever the protesters tried to block the road, immediate action was taken."&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Troops of the Pakistan Army are patrolling different highways. Citizens are requested to cooperate with the police in establishing public order. Rangers, Punjab Police, FC and Islamabad Police are there to maintain public order. Punjab Police has been present for assistance in previous appearances as well," it added. &nbsp;</p>
