In its security alert, the embassy said that the US government has the information that “unknown individuals are possibly plotting to attack Americans at the Marriott Hotel in Islamabad sometime during the holidays,”.

In the advisory, the embassy banned its American staff from visiting the top-class hotel in Islamabad during the holidays.

Meanwhile, the UK's Foreign, Commonwealth &amp; Development Office (FCDO) also issued a travel advisory barring its officials from travelling to districts of Baujar, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, North Waziristan and South Waziristan in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Province and the districts of Charsadda, Kohat, Tank, Bannu, Lakki, Dera Ismail Khan, Swat, Buner and Lower Dir in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and the city and district of Peshawar.&nbsp;

The advisory also stops officials from travelling on the N45 road, from the north of the Mardan ring road to the edge of the district of Chitral, Balochistan province excluding the southern coast of Balochistan (see below), the section of the N35 (or Karakoram Highway) between the Mansehra ring road and the N15/N35 Chilas interchange and within 10 miles of the Line of Control

The directive was issued by the embassy two days after Islamabad was rocked by a suicide bombing which took place in a residential area, killing one police officer and injuring ten others.

The explosion took place after a taxi was stopped by the police for inspection during a police patrol. As per the police, the explosives were detonated by a rear-seat passenger, who was carrying them, leading to the blast in the vehicle.

The attack was claimed by militants of the Pakistani Taliban, who work separately but are allied with the rulers of Afghanistan.

Since then, the city has been placed on high alert by the administration of Islamabad, and processions and public gatherings have been banned, even though campaigns for local elections are ongoing. Police are continuously patrolling the city and snap checkpoints have been set up for inspecting vehicles across the capital.

The Pakistani Taliban spokesperson claimed responsibility for the bombing saying it was done to avenge the death of senior leader Abdul Wali, who was killed in a roadside bombing in Afghanistan's&nbsp;Paktika province.

"Our initial information says that there was a man and a woman in the car," Islamabad operations police chief, Sohail Zafar told reporters on Friday, adding as the police officers chased the car, it blew up, a report by news agency Reuters said.&nbsp;

Zafar said it was a suicide blast and the injured were four police officers and six civilians.&nbsp;

On December 18, suspected terrorists attacked a police station in the Lakki Marwat district, killing four police personnel. Three days later, dozens of armed terrorists stormed a police station in Wana city of South Waziristan, injuring a police constable.&nbsp;

In Bannu, terrorists,&nbsp;mostly belonging to the Pakistani Taliban, seized a counter-terrorism centre on December 18 and took hostages to negotiate with government authorities.

The government began hostage talks a day later. On Tuesday (December 20), security forces retook the counter-terrorism centre and rescued all hostages. Twenty-five of the 35 terrorists were killed in the raid while one hostage and two commandos died in the operation.&nbsp;

The Pakistani companies that have been listed are Dynamic Engineering Corporation, EnerQuip Private Ltd, Rainbow Solutions, Universal Drilling Engineers, NAR Technologies General Trading LLC and Trojans. The last 2 companies have a base in UAE as well. Most of these companies are based in the Pakistani National capital Islamabad, with some having addresses in Karachi and Lahore as well.

The statement explained that 3 of the Pakistan-based companies have been contributing to the nuclear activity and missile proliferation-related activities that are "contrary to the national security and foreign policy interests of the United States". 2 UAE based companies, EnerQuip Limited and Zain Enterprises FZE have also been backlisted for supporting Islamabad's nuclear activities.

The development comes even as US and India have several times publicly expressed concerns over Pakistan's nuclear activities. Earlier this year, US President Biden termed Pakistan as "maybe one of the most dangerous nations in the world" as it has "nuclear weapons without any cohesion".&nbsp;

India has also recently expressed concerns after a Russian senator, Igor Morozov alleged that Ukraine had sought Pakistani help for developing nuclear weapons. Ministry of external affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi in November said that "we have expressed our concerns about the proliferation of nuclear technology from Pakistan in the past", explaining, "if there is any kind of such Nexus or proliferation, it is a cause of worry, not just for India, but for the international community." In the past, India has pointed out to Pakistan's nuclear nexus with North Korea as well, with support being given by Pakistani nuclear scientist AQ Khan.

US blacklists Pakistani companies for supporting Islamabad's 'un-safeguarded' nuclear activities

The Pakistan government is reworking its strategy to tackle terrorist activities being carried out by Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) after the ceasefire agreement was called off by the militant group and attacks were resumed on the government's security forces on Thursday, as per a media report.

The government signed the ceasefire deal in June with TTP, which has been fighting for the establishment of Sharia rule across the nation. On Tuesday, the TTP called off the peace deal accusing the Pakistan government of carrying out Intelligence Based Operations (IBO) against the militant group and not abiding by the terms and agreements. 
 
TTP, within 24 hours of breaking the truce, took the responsibility for a suicide blast that took place in the Balelli area in Quetta. The Express Tribune newspaper was informed by an official source that Pakistan will review its strategy after TTP made an announcement, earlier this week, to call off the truce and increased the terrorist attacks.

According to the source, the National Security Committee (NSC) is likely to convene a meeting to decide on the new strategy. The Afghan Taliban regime brokered the truce, as it continued to resist any kind of pressure from the Pakistan government to take action against the militant group and its affiliates. 
 
The source informed that the government will now look into all options to tackle militancy after TTP's resurgence. Newly-appointed Army Chief General Asim Munir has a clear understanding of Afghanistan and the TTP and is likely to provide crucial input on the TTP's strategy review along with the Taliban-led Afghanistan to the Pakistan government, headed by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif.

Meanwhile, Pakistan's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar, on her visit to Kabul, had held discussions with the Afghan Taliban on the issue of TTP. 
 
The official handout, however, had no mention of any concerns raised by Pakistan on the issue of cross-border terrorist attacks. The sources stated that the government may consider holding direct talks with the TTP.

The Pakistan government is reworking its strategy to tackle terrorist activities being carried out by Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) after the ceasefire agreement was called off by the militant group and attacks were resumed on the government's security forces on Thursday, as per a media report. The government signed the ceasefire deal in June with TTP, which has been fighting for the establishment of Sharia rule across the nation. On Tuesday, the TTP called off the peace deal accusing the Pakistan government of carrying out Intelligence Based Operations (IBO) against the militant group and not abiding by the terms and agreements. TTP, within 24 hours of breaking the truce, took the responsibility for a suicide blast that took place in the Balelli area in Quetta. The Express Tribune newspaper was informed by an official source that Pakistan will review its strategy after TTP made an announcement, earlier this week, to call off the truce and increased the terrorist attacks. The Afghan Taliban regime brokered the truce, as it continued to resist any kind of pressure from the Pakistan government to take action against the militant group and its affiliates. The source informed that the government will now look into all options to tackle militancy after TTP's resurgence. Newly-appointed Army Chief General Asim Munir has a clear understanding of Afghanistan and the TTP and is likely to provide crucial input on the TTP's strategy review along with the Taliban-led Afghanistan to the Pakistan government, headed by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif. The attacks come against the backdrop of the Pakistan government being engaged in peace talks with TTP.
