US State Department’s Principal Deputy Spokesperson Vedant Patel said the White House had left the door open for such purchases even though it had placed restrictions on Russian oil after the Ukraine invasion last year. “Look, each country is going to make its own sovereign decisions as it relates to its energy supply,” said Patel. “One of the reasons that the United States, through the G7, has been a big proponent of the price cap is to ensure that steps are not being taken to keep Russian energy off the market because we understand that there is a demand for supply." In December last year, the G7 and EU countries set a price cap of $60 per barrel on Russian oil. Even then, US stated Pakistan can purchase oil from Russia despite not signing the Washington-backed price cap. “But we also need to take steps to ensure that Russian energy markets are not turning out to be a windfall for [President] Putin’s war machine,” Mr Patel warned. “And so, again, countries will make their own sovereign decisions. We have never tried to keep Russian energy off the market," he added. Instead, the kingdom wants the south Asian country to focus its energy on signing a bailout deal with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Only after a deal with IMF is struck that the kingdom will decide on extending any loans. The decision by the kingdom has left the Pakistani government in shock which is in dire need of US dollar inflows. The country is on the verge of defaulting on $80 billion of international loan repayments while having only $3 billion in forex exchange reserves. Saudi Finance Minister Mohammed al-Jadaan indicated the newfound stance at the World Economic Forum in Davos, earlier this year. “We used to give direct grants and deposits without strings attached and we are changing that. We are working with multilateral institutions to actually say we need to see reforms," al-Jadaan said on the platform. For a large part of Pakistan's existence, Saudi Arabia has stepped up on multiple occasions to bail Islamabad out of its financial mess by extending zero-interest loans. A mere phone call by the Pakistani prime minister or a visit by the army chief was enough to secure the funding. However, the inability of the Pakistani government to repay those loans has irked the kingdom. The usual bailout avenue has now been shut leaving the lawmakers in a tizzy. In January, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said it was shameful for a country like Pakistan to have a nuclear weapon in one hand and a begging bowl in the other. While expressing “zero tolerance” for misbehaviour at its foreign missions, Pakistan said on Thursday that it was looking into the case of a woman visitor who has alleged indecent behaviour by some senior staff members of the country’s high commission in New Delhi.

Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, issued a statement in response to the media queries about the alleged indecent treatment by an official of the High Commission to the Indian woman.

“There is zero tolerance for misbehaviour and mistreatment of individuals visiting our Missions,” she said.

“While we are looking into this case, we are surprised at its timing and the manner in which it has been raised. There are robust mechanisms in place for redressal of all public grievances,” she added.

Intelligence officials informed the law enforcement agencies that Khan hails from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and is affiliated with the Pakistani Taliban which is also known as the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Khan might enter Islamabad to carry out terror attacks.&nbsp;

A police official and two terrorists of the TTP were killed in the December 23 suicide bombing in Sector I-10/4 in Islamabad. The TTP, while claiming responsibility for the attack, said the bombing was carried out to avenge the death of a senior leader.&nbsp;

A few days back, many foreign missions,&nbsp;including the United States (US), the United Kingdom (UK), Australia and Saudi Arabia, issued travel advisories and threat alerts to their citizens in Pakistan, prohibiting them from visiting restaurants, hotels and public places in Islamabad.&nbsp;

And on <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/islamabad-bans-public-gatherings-for-two-weeks-after-suicide-blast-kills-three-546356">December 23, Islamabad's deputy commissioner Nawaz Memon</a> said that all public gatherings in the city were banned for two weeks.&nbsp;

Pakistan has reported a rise in terror attacks in recent times. On Friday, a high-level meeting of the National Security Committee (NSC) was chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and attended by top ministers and officials of the armed forces. During the meeting, it was mutually agreed upon to respond to terror activities will full force.

"The top civil-military leadership expressed the commitment that the fundamental interests of Pakistan's survival, security and development will be safeguarded with utmost courage, consistency and perseverance," an official statement read.&nbsp;
