Pant had a great last year in the IPL which saw him earn a spot in the Indian team. Pant has not looked back since. He made the most of his opportunities, be it Test cricket, ODIs, or T20Is. He was also named as the captain of the Capitals` squad for this season.

Speaking on Star Sports` show Game Plan, Parthiv Patel said, "I think Rishabh Pant carries a lot of confidence with him and that`s what you want when you are playing a T20 game. You don`t want any doubts in your mind and especially a player like Rishabh Pant. He was burdened with the comparison of MS Dhoni and he also tried to do that, but he himself is a brilliant player. He doesn`t have to worry about being like MS Dhoni. He can be better than MS Dhoni or he can win matches on his own every given time. So, I think Rishabh Pant will probably hold the key for Delhi Capitals."

Parthiv further analysed the Mumbai Indians` team for IPL 2021 and said, "I don`t think Mumbai Indians will be thinking of where they are playing next. All the teams would be thinking about where they are playing first and you know, try and get their best team forward, try and get their best XI on the path.

"If they are playing in Chennai, you might expect some spinner but from the Mumbai Indians point of view, I don`t think they have to tinker a lot with their playing XI because Hardik Pandya is bowling quite a bit now, almost bowling 4 overs, Pollard bowls his slower ones really well, which might be useful on a Chennai wicket. And obviously, Rahul Chahar had an outstanding IPL, a couple of outstanding IPLs and hence, he was picked for India. Krunal Pandya`s 4 overs, his form in domestic cricket, so I can go on and on about it," he added.

When asked about his thoughts on whether Royal Challengers Bangalore will have the right start in the IPL, he said, "It all matters how you are ending the tournament, doesn`t it? I think we have seen Mumbai Indians so many times, not starting the tournament well, but picking at the right time, but once they get to the business end of the tournament, you know if they have to win five out of five, they have the team to go win it in Kolkata.

"But I think there were a lot of questions to be answered in the auction, but I don`t think they have answered those questions. Just because they were not expecting it to go out of Bangalore. Hence, Moeen Ali went. If Moeen Ali was there, it would have been a different XI altogether. And one player actually can change the composition of the XI. As he rightly said, attention was to try to get away from ABD and Virat, but how much attention they are trying to win it away inside the team will matter the most and not outside of the team," he added.

According to Shakib Al Hasan, his letter to the board was been misinterpreted by BCB cricket operation chairman Akram Khan.

"Continuously people are talking about this Test (skipping the series against Sri Lanka). The people who are saying that I will no longer play the Test or don't want to play the Test haven't read my letter properly and that is it," Shakib was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

"I did not mention anywhere in my letter that I do not want to play Tests. I mentioned in my letter that I want to play in the IPL to prepare myself properly for World Cup (T20 World Cup) but despite that Akram Bhai (BCB cricket operation chairman) has repeatedly said that I do not want to play Tests," he said.

The BCCI said that the players involved in the India vs England series can directly join the bio-bubble without undergoing a quarantine period.

"Players coming directly from the Bubble created for India vs. England series may be permitted to join the franchise squad without serving the mandatory quarantine period, provided they satisfy the criteria of moving directly to the franchise team hotel either in the team bus or on a chartered flight (sic)," the BCCI stated in the document.&nbsp;

"If chartered flights are used then all protocols for crew members must be followed. If the travel arrangements are to the satisfaction of the BCCI Chief Medical Officer then such players will directly enter the franchise team Bubble without the need to serve a quarantine period or undergo an RT-PCR test," the note added.

"Prior intimation to IPL Chief Operating Officer is mandatory if the teams are exploring the above mentioned travel arrangements. If BCCI Chief Medical Officer is not satisfied with the strict adherence to the travel protocols by any of the players, all such players will have to quarantine for 7 days and return 3 negative RT-PCR results for tests taken on Day 2, Day 5 and the morning of Day 7 
before entering their respective franchise Bubble," it added.&nbsp;

A total of 12 Bubbles will be created. Eight of them will be for the franchise teams and support staff. Two bubbles will be for the match officials and match management teams and two more Bubbles for broadcast commentators and crew.

The Indian cricket board will be appointing four Bubble Integrity Managers with each franchise to keep a check on the breach of the Bio-Bubble. "Their job will be to report any Bio-secure Environment protocol breaches by members of the franchise team to the BCCI Chief Medical Officer," the note said.

The board also clarified that vaccination for the players involved will not be possible.&nbsp;

"The vaccination program against COVID-19 is underway in India and vaccines are currently being administered to the at-risk population viz. front-line workers, health care professionals, people over the age of 60 years and those between the ages of 45-59 years who have comorbidities like cardiac ailments, diabetes, cancer, etc. Until most of the population is vaccinated and immune to the SARS-CoV-2 virus, precautions will need to be taken to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the community," the note said.

The document released by the board also clarified the safety related to the cricket balls that will be used in the league. The saliva will still not be applied to the ball. It read: "New scientific study of cricket balls as potential vectors of the novel coronavirus showed the risk of transmission to be very low. If the cricket ball goes in the stands or outside the stadium, the 4th umpire will provide a replacement from the library of cricket balls. The previous ball when returned will be sanitized with alcohol based wipes and/or UV-C by the 4th umpire and placed in the library."

However, Wadia feels that crowds should be avoided in the upcoming IPL, at least initially due to safety concerns.

"I think it would better to have no crowd initially and then evaluate the COVID-19 situation as the event progresses. There is no question that the IPL is tougher to organise than a bilateral series. We want whatever is best and safe for the players and the bio-bubble.

"We are disappointed (not being one of the venues) and I am sure our fans will be too. We have heard on this from BCCI verbally but there is no written communication yet. We would like to know their venue selection criteria," he added.

The player auction will be held on Thursday. 
 
"It`s a small auction but I think a lot of teams will have a lot of work to do. It was unbelievable the way it went in the UAE amid all the Covid scare in the months of October and November," Ganguly told Star Sports. 
 
"It got amazing ratings, the best in the last 13 years. This year it is going to be big as well. We`ll see if we can get crowds back into the IPL. That`s a decision we will have to take shortly," he said.

Ganguly said that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was keen on having crowds for India`s first Test against England, which was the first cricket to be held in the country in over a year. 
 
"We wanted the fans back. We could have had them in the first Test in Chennai but we decided to go with the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association, who said let`s see how it goes for the first one because it`s our first game after a long time and we`ll open it up for the second Test. I know the Gujarat Cricket Association will add a bit more to the cricket, not just with the game but a lot of other things around the game. It`s going to be a great Test match for everyone," said Ganguly. 
 
The third and fourth matches of the series will be played at the refurbished Sardar Patel Stadium. The third Test will be a day-night match and Ganguly said that tickets have been sold out. 
 
"Ahmedabad is completely sold out. I spoke to Jay Shah and he`s very keen on these Test matches. Just for him also cricket is coming back to Ahmedabad after six-seven years because they built the new stadium, and I have told him we have set an example with pink-ball Test last year in Kolkata, so it cannot go beyond that and we want to see every seat and stand full. And that`s what it is, the tickets have gone, as well as for the T20s which will follow the Tests," said Ganguly.

"Ben Stokes and (Jofra) Archer, they are really good players. They did really well for England, so it is not about any individual. I think it is all about a team, England team, they are a very balanced outfit which did really well recently against Sri Lanka.

"So for us, what is important is that we plan against all their guys and just play as a team here and back our strengths."

Team India will return to action as they host England in the first Test match that is set to begin on Friday at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

"Because if you are playing for India and not part of your franchise's playing XI, it is somewhere or the other be harmful to your career."

During the 2020 season, Kuldeep could not leave any impact in the league as he featured in just 5 out of 14 matches, despite Narine being out for some games.&nbsp;

"Now that you have retained him, they should play him. Otherwise, I feel Kuldeep Yadav should have himself said that if he is not in their scheme of things, he should be given an opportunity to go and play somewhere else," he added.
