However, in contrast to Savarkarite Hindutva, Rai was a pluralist who advocated for social reform and worked to protect the political and economic rights of Hindu from colonial and communal threats.&nbsp;While leading a movement on October 30, 1928, in Lahore against the Simon Commission, the protesters were met with a violent crackdown, during which he was fatally injured. Despite being injured, he addressed a crowd that evening, famously stating: "I declare that the blows struck at me today will be the last nails in the coffin of British rule in India". He succumbed to the injuries 18 days later on November 17, 1928. However, his death radicalised the likes of Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev and set off a chain of events, which led to the assassination of Assistant Superintendent John P. Then he said the most shocking thing - at 1.35, we had called Pakistan and told them that we hit non-military targets and we do not want escalation...Maybe he does not understand what he revealed. The DGMO of India was told by the government of India to ask for a ceasefire at 1.35 at night itself on the night of Operation Sindoor," he said.&nbsp;"You told the Pakistanis exactly what you would do. On Friday, the Lower House of Parliament Lok Sabha and the Upper House Rajya Sabha have been adjourned sine die(without any future date specified for resumption).

The political slugfest erupted after Home Minister Amit Shah's statement on BR Ambedkar in the Rajya Sabha during a debate on the '75th year of the adoption of the Indian Constitution'. Taking a dig at the Congress-led opposition, Amit Shah mentioned that, “it has become a trend to repeat Ambedkar’s name over and over. If they had chanted God’s name as much, they would have attained heaven in seven lifetimes”(remarks originally made in Hindi).
Shah expressed happiness that more people were taking Ambedkar's name these days but also went on to list out what he cited as injustices meted out by the Congress Party. Shah also reminded everyone that Ambedkar had to quit the first cabinet led by Jawaharlal Nehru, due to his disagreement with the Congress government's policies.

Opposition Parliamentarians considered Shah's remarks as an insult to Ambedkar and started their protests and social media offensive. Rahul Gandhi said, “Those who believe in Manusmriti will definitely have problems with Ambedkar ji.” The Congress party alleged that Shah’s remarks during a debate on the Constitution show that the BJP and the RSS leaders have a “lot of hatred” for Ambedkar.
Shah accused the Congress of sharing a trimmed version of his speech. As the controversy escalated, Congress MPs began demanding the resignation of the Home Minister for allegedly insulting Ambedkar. Prime Minister Modi came to the defence of Amit Shah, and accused the Congress of "theatrics".

On Thursday, the ruling BJP-led NDA and opposition INDIA bloc representatives had staged a protest in the Parliament premises, when a scuffle broke out between the two sides. Two BJP MPs Pratap Chandra Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput were injured and later hospitalised. 
BJP MP Pratap Chandra Sarangi has alleged that he was hurt after getting a push from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Sarangi claimed that he was standing on the stairs when another member of Parliament fell on him, leading to an injury on his head. Further, a woman BJP MP accused Rahul Gandhi of "misbehaving" with her. BJP's Phangnon Konyak alleged that Rahul Gandhi shouted at her when she was protesting at the Parliament premises.
"Today while protesting, it was a peaceful protest. I was standing outside just below the staircase of Makar Dwar. Something happened to me for which I feel really disheartened. Leader of Opposition of Lok Sabha Shri Rahul Gandhi ji came in very close proximity to me. I really felt very uncomfortable and he started shouting at me which I felt is very unbecoming of a leader of the opposition," Konyak said. The BJP MP from Nagaland said that she could have defended herself but did not do so.
Congress ally DMK's Tiruchi Siva contested the claims made by the ruling party MPs. “This is the version of one side. There was a demonstration going on outside and Mr Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the other house, is a very senior person and he has complained that he was only pushed. We respect all elder members. We respect every woman in this country. Nothing has happened of that sort,” he said.

Dr Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar (1891-1956) was born on 14 April 1891 in Mhow Cantonment, Madhya Pradesh. Dr Ambedkar graduated from Bombay University in 1912 with a BA in Economics and Political Science. On account of his excellent performance at college, in 1913 he was awarded a scholarship by Sayajirao Gaikwad, then Maharaja (King) of Baroda state to pursue his MA and PhD at Columbia University in New York, USA. After Columbia, Dr. Ambedkar moved to London, where he registered at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) to study economics, and enrolled in Grey’s Inn to study law. However, due to lack of funds, he had to return to India in 1917. In 1918, he became a Professor of Political Economy at Sydenham College, Mumbai (erstwhile Bombay). 
Dr Ambedkar founded Bahishkrit Hitkarini Sabha (Society for Welfare of the Ostracized) and led social movements such as Mahad Satyagraha in 1927 to demand justice and equal access to public resources for the historically oppressed castes of the Indian society. In the same year, he entered the Bombay Legislative Council as a nominated member.
In 1946, he was elected to the Constituent Assembly of India. On 15 August 1947, he took oath as the first Law Minister of independent India. Subsequently, he was elected Chairperson of the Drafting Committee of the Constituent Assembly and steered the process of drafting India’s Constitution. Mahavir Tyagi, a member of the Constituent Assembly, described Dr Ambedkar as “the main artist” who “laid aside his brush and unveiled the picture for the public to see and comment upon”.
Dr Rajendra Prasad, who presided over the Constituent Assembly and later became the first President of the Indian Republic, said: “Sitting in the Chair and watching the proceedings from day to day, I have realised as nobody else could have, with what zeal and devotion the members of the Drafting Committee and especially its Chairman, Dr Ambedkar in spite of his indifferent health, have worked. We could never make a decision which was or could be ever so right as when we put him on the Drafting Committee and made him its Chairman. He has not only justified his selection but has added lustre to the work which he has done.”
After the first General Election in 1952, he became a member of the Rajya Sabha. He was also awarded an honorary doctorate from Columbia University in the same year. In 1953, he was awarded another honorary doctorate from Osmania University, Hyderabad.

With the Winter Session of the Indian Parliament coming to an end soon, lawmakers of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the opposition INDIA bloc held protests, leading to a scuffle in which two BJP MPs were injured and had to be rushed to the hospital.
The injured BJP MPs were identified as Pratap Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput. A report by the news agency ANI said that Sarangi and Rajput were admitted to New Delhi's Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.
Hospital officials said that both the MPs suffered head injuries and were taken to the intensive care unit (ICU).
This incident triggered a war of words between the BJP and the Congress, with the former alleging that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi pushed Sarangi during the protest. Speaking to reporters, Union Minister and senior BJP leader Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that Rahul Gandhi behaved like a goon. 
"He (Gandhi) started pushing there. Our elderly MP Pratap Sarangi fell, and he was seriously injured on the head. He was admitted to the ICU, and he is still under treatment... He was unconscious. His MRI scan is being done. Will physical power be used in the Parliament instead of logic?," Union Minister Chouhan said.

The controversy broke out over Union Home Minister Amit Shah's remark on Ambedkar after the home minister, during a debate in Rajya Sabha, stated, "Abhi ek fashion ho gaya hai—Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar. Itna naam agar bhagwan ka lete to saat janmon tak swarg mil jata (It has become a fashion to say Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar,  Ambedkar.) If they had taken God's name so many times, they would have got a place in heaven."
The Congress claimed that the remark was an insult to Ambedkar.
The opposition parties demanded the resignation of Shah, accusing him of insulting the father of the constitution, BR Ambedkar.

With just a few days left for the Winter Session of the Indian Parliament to conclude, Home Minister Amit Shah faced severe criticism from opposition lawmakers over his remarks on Dalit icon Dr BR Ambedkar- which he made on Tuesday (Dec 17) during a debate on the Constitution in the Rajya Sabha. 
On Wednesday, Union Home Minister Shah responded to the opposition criticism by lashing out at the Congress party. Addressing a press conference, Shah said that the Congress had been presenting facts about his speech in the Rajya Sabha in a distorted manner.

BJP leader Amit Shah made strong comments about Congress' history with constitutional amendments. "Congress changed the Constitution 77 times in 55 years of rule," Shah said, directly criticising the opposition. He added, "The 54-year-old leader, who calls himself 'yuva', constantly talks about changing the Constitution. But I want to remind you, the power to amend the Constitution is already in the Constitution itself." Shah also pointed out that during the BJP’s 16 years in power, the party made 22 amendments to the Constitution. 
Shah said that the Congress government under Jawahar Lal Nehru brought in the first Constitutional Amendment Act to “curtail the freedom of expression”.
“The first amendment was made on June 18, 1951. After the formation of the Constitution, Congress did not have enough patience to wait for the Lok Sabha elections. Article 19A was added to curtail the freedom of speech, and Jawahar Lal Nehru was the Prime Minister at that time,” he said.

Opposition leaders from across party lines opposed the bill, alleging that it was "anti-federal" and undermined the basic structure of the Indian constitution.
Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MP TR Baalu, opposing the bill, stated, "I oppose the 129th Constitution Amendment Bill, 2024. As my leader M.K. Stalin has said, it is anti-federal. The electors have the right to elect the government for five years, and this right cannot be curtailed with simultaneous elections."
Meanwhile Congress' Tewari labelled the constitutional amendment an "absolute assault on the basic structure of the Constitution" and said: "Beyond the seventh schedule of the Constitution is the basic structure doctrine, which spells out that there are certain features of the Constitution beyond the amending power of the House. The essential features are federalism and the structure of our democracy."

Within two days, this Constitution Amendment Bill has been brought to undermine the basic spirit and structure of the Constitution. I agree with Manish Tewari, and on behalf of my party and my leader Akhilesh Yadav, I have no hesitation in saying that there was no one more learned than the makers of our Constitution at that time. Even in this House, there is no one more learned. I have no hesitation in saying this," he said.

BJP, Congress issue whips as 'One Nation, One Election' bill hits Lok Sabha today

In a question for the government, the Congress party has attacked the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) for its handling of the investigation into the Adani Group and two Mauritius-based foreign portfolio investors (FPIs). The controversy revolves around allegations of these FPIs violating new foreign investor norms and their involvement in the Adani Group's activities as detailed in a PTI report.

According to the report, two Mauritius-based FPIs, implicated in the January 2023 report by short-seller Hindenburg Research, have petitioned the Securities Appellate Tribunal seeking urgent relief from complying with SEBI's new foreign investor norms. These norms are set to come into effect on September 9th. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi began his 45-hour long meditation at the Vivekananda Rock Memorial on Thursday evening (May 30)&nbsp;after days of intense campaigning for the Lok Sabha Election. PM Modi is&nbsp;meditating&nbsp;at Rock Memorial, which is a monument built in tribute to Swami Vivekananda, in Kanyakumari.&nbsp;

Modi worshipped at the Bhagavathi Amman temple and reached the rock memorial by a ferry service after arriving from nearby Thiruvananthapuram by helicopter. PM Modi started meditation that is scheduled to go on till June 1.&nbsp;

Modi prayed at the shrine and circled the 'garbhagriha'. He was dressed in a dhoti and a white shawl. Priests performed a special 'arthi' and he was given temple 'prasad' that included a shawl and a framed photograph of the presiding deity of the temple.&nbsp;

Security has been heightened as around 2,000 police personnel have been deployed in the area.&nbsp;&nbsp;

<h2>Congress calls it violation&nbsp;</h2>

However, the Indian National Congress (INC) is not happy about the nearly two-day meditation exercise as they have appealed to the Election Commission to take action against it and have also urged to ensure it is not aired by the media as it violates the model code of conduct.&nbsp;

The Congress party alleged that the meditation plan was an attempt to "circumvent" the silence period restrictions. A delegation of Congress leaders Randeep Surjewala, Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Syed Naseer Hussain handed over a memorandum in this regard along with 27 other complaints of alleged model code violations by the BJP in the last few days.&nbsp;

"The said trip would be widely televised and would therefore be shown during the 48-hour silence period in Varanasi, the constituency from which Shri Narendra Modi is contesting", the Congress memorandum to the poll body said.&nbsp;

"Through the meditation trip, Shri Narendra Modi is attempting to circumvent the 48-hour silence period and unfairly leverage the ethno-cultural significance of the chosen location in an attempt to bolster his campaign and maximise his vote share in violation of the Representation of the People Act, as well as the Model Code of Conduct", the party also said.&nbsp;

"The PM will start his meditation on the evening of May 30, and we have complained about that. We all know that the silence period will begin on May 30 and thus his declaration is a violation of the MCC.&nbsp;

"The PM can start his meditation after 24-48 hours, which is from the evening of June 1. Otherwise, if he wants to meditate from May 30, then the ECI should ensure that this is not broadcast by the TV or print media", Singhvi told reporters.&nbsp;

Radhika Khera levelled some serious allegations against the Indian National Congress (INC) after she quit the party on Sunday (May 5), and vowed&nbsp;to expose the "male chauvinistic mentality" within the party. Khera was the media department's national coordinator of Congress. She has alleged that no one helped her even after repeated alerts to the party's high command regarding disrespect at the Chhattisgarh unit.&nbsp;

In her letter, she wrote: "It is an established truth since ancient times that those who support religion have been opposed. Examples of this range from Hiranyakashipu to Ravana and Kansa. At present, some people are opposing those who take the name of Lord Shri Ram."&nbsp;

"For every Hindu, the birthplace of Lord Ram holds great significance with its sanctity … while every Hindu considers his life successful just by seeing Ram Lalla, some people are opposing it," she said, without taking any names.&nbsp;

Radhika Khera vows to expose ‘male chauvinistic mentality’ within Congress party

Election officials on Monday (Apr 15) conducted checks in a helicopter carrying Indian National Congress (INC) leader Rahul Gandhi.&nbsp;

The news agency PTI reported that according to the police, the search was conducted by the flying squad officials after the helicopter landed in Nilgiris, Tamil Nadu.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, the Congress leader on Monday said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) poll manifesto does not have anything for the poor but talks about bidding for the 2036 Olympics.&nbsp;

In a significant blow to the Congress ahead of Lok Sabha polls, the party said that it had received fresh notices from the Income Tax department, with a tax demand amounting to over Rs 1,745 crore (2,09,274 USD) for the assessment years 2014-15 to 2016-17.

With the latest development, the Income Tax department has raised a demand of Rs 3,567 crore (4,27,783 USD) from the grand old party.&nbsp;

The fresh tax notices are linked to 2014-15 (Rs 663 crore), 2015-16 (approximately Rs 664 crore) and 2016-17 (approximately Rs 417 crore), news agency PTI reported citing sources.

The authorities have removed tax exemption given to the political parties because of returns not being filed and further added that they were now subject to pay tax for the entire amount collected.

The grand old party, according to the sources, has also been taxed for "third-party entries" made in diaries which were seized by probe agencies from some of the party leaders during raids at multiple locations, said sources.

<h2>Congress accuses IT department of double standards</h2>

Congress on Friday (Mar 29) accused the Income Tax Department of double standards alleging that it penalised the grand old party over a violation of Rs 14 lakh (16,789 USD) but was silent at the time the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) made a violation of Rs 42 crore (50,36,997 USD) that entailed a penalty of Rs 4,600 crore (5,51,671 USD).

While addressing a press conference, Congress leaders Jairam Ramesh and Ajay Maken alleged that the ruling party at the Centre was making attempts to stifle the grand old party financially ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.

Maken stated that it was the Election Commission's responsibility to ensure fair play during the elections.

"We have received notices from the time of Sitaram Kesari, from 1993-94... We have been demanded to pay Rs 53 crores from the time of Sitaram Kesari. A total demand of Rs 1823 crores has been made by the IT department from Congress," he said.

"We have analysed all violations of the BJP using the same parameters they used to analyse our violations... BJP has a penalty of Rs 4600 crore. The income Tax department should raise a demand from the BJP for the payment of this amount," he added.

Maken alleged that the saffron party was making efforts to weaken the Congress financially by freezing their bank accounts ahead of Lok Sabha polls.

"Our analysis reveals that out of the 1,297 individuals who donated to the BJP, their identities remain undisclosed with no addresses or evidence of contribution totalling Rs 42 crore, indicating a blatant breach of regulations. Additionally, there are 92 individuals whose names are absent from the list but they provided electoral bonds to the BJP," he said.

Indian National Congress (INC) leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday (Feb 13) promised to fulfil the farmers' key demand of a law guaranteeing Minimum Support Price (MSP) for various crops if the INDIA bloc wins upcoming general elections and comes to power.&nbsp;

The opposition condemned the BJP governments at the Centre and also in states for stopping protesting farmers from marching to the Indian capital of New Delhi.&nbsp;

MSP is announced by the government at the beginning of the sowing season for certain crops on the basis of several factors and aims at insuring agricultural producers against any sharp fall in farm prices.&nbsp;

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge accused the Modi government of neglecting the voice of farmers after "failing" to fulfil the promises made to them over 10 years.&nbsp;

"If Congress comes to power at the Centre (after the Lok Sabha polls), it will ensure legal guarantee to MSP in the interest of farmers. It is our first guarantee," Kharge said during Gandhi's 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra' in the Ambikapur district of Chhattisgarh.&nbsp;
