Injury-hit Team India will face Temba Bavuma-led South Africa in the series opener of the five-match T20Is at home on Thursday evening (June 09), in New Delhi, India. On Wednesday evening (June 08), news broke out that stand-in captain KL Rahul has been injured, along with wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav, hence, Rishabh Pant will lead India in the five T20Is versus the Proteas.

For the unversed, Pant was already named the captain when the BCCI selection committee named a Rohit Sharma-less Indian squad for the SA T20Is. With big names such as Rohit, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah rested, and now with Rahul's absence, Pant has a huge task to keep India's winning run intact in the shortest format (12), who are one victory away from creating a new world record of most successive T20I wins.

As soon as Pant will enter the Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi for the coin toss with Bavuma, he will join an elite list by going past former captains Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni. The 24-year-old Pant will then be followed by MS Dhoni (who captained in T20Is at 26), Virender Sehwag (who was 28 when he led India in their first-ever T20I in 2006) and Virat.

It will be interesting to see how Pant marshalls his troops, comprising Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ishan Kishan, Avesh Khan, Umran Malik and some experienced campaigners such as Hardik Pandya and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Hardik will serve as Pant's deputy in the five T20Is.

India vs SA: Captain Rishabh Pant set to join elite list during 1st T20I, to go past Virat Kohli & MS Dhoni

India and South Africa will lock horns with each other in what is expected to be a mouth-watering five-match T20I series with the opening game to be played on Thursday evening (June 09). While Temba Bavuma-led Proteas are a strong squad, India have been hit with several injury concerns after their famed trio -- regular captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah -- were rested.

Ahead of the first T20I, news broke out from the Indian camp that regular vice-captain and stand-in skipper KL Rahul has been injured, along with wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav. Hence, Rishabh Pant is all set to don the captain's hat for the first time ever for Team India whereas the 28-year-old IPL-winning skipper Hardik Pandya will be his deputy for the series. Thus, India have lots riding on them to beat Proteas and also keep their unbeaten streak alive in the shortest format (currently at 12). If India win the series opener, they will create a world record of winning the most consecutive T20Is.

Match prediction for India vs SA 1st T20I: The sweltering heat of a typical June afternoon is set to trouble players from both sides. While the majority of them have played IPL 2022, the heat and humidity has just worsened in the national capital. Dew is, however, expected in the evening game and, hence, both sides' captains will prefer batting second, which has become a trend in the shortest format.

For India, they will have some issues finalising their playing XI after injuries to Rahul and Kuldeep. Nonetheless, they still have a lot of options, especially in bowling, but it will be interesting to see the all-rounders and bowlers who get the nod. In batting, the onus will lie on Ishan Kishan-Ruturaj Gaikwad, Pant, in-form finishers Hardik and Dinesh Karthik (if he plays). For SA, they have their main players but it remains to be seen how they adapt to the conditions and the surface in Delhi.

India vs South Africa 1st T20I: Match prediction and likely playing XIs of both teams

Hardik Pandya made heads turn in the recently-concluded IPL 2022. Under him, debutants Gujarat Titans won their maiden championship whereas Hardik impressed with 487 runs and eight wickets overall. His leadership was exemplary as he brought the best out of his teammates and led with aplomb.

Ahead of the India-South Africa T20Is, at home, head coach Rahul Dravid was all praise for all-rounder Hardik. Dravid hailed the 28-year-old's leadership skills and is eager to get the best of him in all departments.

"I just met Hardik a couple of hours ago. For the guys who played the final, we gave them an extra day off. But I think his leadership was very impressive right through the IPL. He performed very well. In the sense, you don't have to be designated as a leader to be part of any leadership group. It's not only about Hardik being designated in a position. At this point in time, it's really about it's good from our perspective that he has started bowling again. We know what that does for us, and what his bowling can add to our depth," Dravid told reporters in New Delhi ahead of the India-SA series opener, on Thursday (June 09).

"It's about ensuring that we can get the best out of him as a cricketer, in terms of bowling, batting, and fielding, and in terms of what happens ahead, it depends on many factors. The selectors will take that decision, in terms of what happens in the future," Dravid added.

Hardik will be making his return in India jersey during the SA T20Is. He was last seen representing India in the 2021 T20 World Cup and since then, he was out of action in order to fully recover from his back issues. Following a glittering IPL campaign, he will be desperate to carry on with his form for Team India as well.

Virat Kohli is away from the 22-yard cricket strip at present as he has been rested for the India-South Africa T20Is at home. However, the 33-year-old Kohli still added another feather to his illustrious hat by reaching the 200-million followers on the social media platform Instagram.

Kohli, thus, also became the first Indian to hit the 200-million followers mark on the photo-blogging site.

The former Indian captain himself took to Instagram to thank his supporters for helping him reach the staggering mark. "200 mil strong. Thanks for all your support insta fam," Kohli wrote along with a montage of his posts on the popular platform.

Indian wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant was in for a surprise on Wednesday (June 08) as he was named captain of the Indian cricket team just a day ahead of the start of the T20I series against South Africa at home. KL Rahul had been appointed as the captain of the side in the absence of regular skipper Rohit Sharma. However, Rahul was ruled out of the five-match series due to an injury on Wednesday paving way for Pant to be named captain.

Pant, who is part of the Indian team's leadership group under captain Rohit, will now geat a chance to lead the team for the first tim in his career. Pant has never captained the Indian team but has been leading the Delhi Capitals (DC) for the past two seasons in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and has significant experience behind his back.

Reacting to his appointment as captain of the Indian team, Pant said it was a good feeling overall but he would have liked the announcement to have come under better circumstances. Rahul along with spinner Kuldeep Yadav have been ruled out of the series due to injuries which is a huge blow for the Indian team ahead of the T20I series against the Proteas.

“It is a very good feeling, did not come under very good circumstances but at the same time I am feeling happy.
Umran Malik had made heads turn throughout the IPL 2022 edition. His raw pace, deadly yorkers and some tidy spells changed the complexion of the game in favour of Kane Williamson-led Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) before the one-time winners' group stage exit.

Umran, however, returned with as many as 22 wickets and was the fourth-highest wicket-taker, overall, in the 15th season of the IPL, which ended with Gujarat Titans (GT) being crowned the eventual winners. Further, the Jammu & Kashmir speedster bowled the fastest ball of the match in every game SRH featured in and held the record for bowling the quickest ball of the season (157 kph) before Lockie Ferguson went past him in the final (by clocking 157.3 kph).

After a memorable IPL 2022 season, Umran is now part of India's T20I squad for the home series versus South Africa, which gets underway on June 09 in New Delhi. Before that, the 22-year-old revealed how SRH's bowling coach and legendary SA pacer Steyn had predicted his India call-up before IPL 2022.

"When I got selected for India, Dale sir (Steyn) was with me in the team bus. We were going for the match. Everyone congratulated me and Dale sir said, 'I told you before the IPL that you will get the India call-up after the season'. And that's exactly what happened, by the grace of god. My goal is to give my best for Team India now,” Malik said in the video shared by BCCI.

💬 💬 "A dream come true moment to get India call up." Pace sensation Umran Malik reveals how Dale Steyn had predicted his India call-up before IPL 2022

Umran Malik earned his dream maiden call up in India's T20I squad after an exceptional season with the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the recently-concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Malik, who is gifted with natural pace, showcased his skills after being backed by the SRH team management and consistently clocked over 150 kmph to trouble the batters.

While he bowled with express pace, a rare commodity in Indian cricket, Umran also worked on his line and length to continue improving throughout the season. The 23-year-old finished as SRH's highest wicket-taker with 23 wickets to his name to be deservingly named in India's squad for the upcoming T20I series against the Proteas.

Ahead of the first ODI between the two sides at the Arun Jaitely Stadium in New Delhi on Tuesday, India head coach Rahul Dravid spoke about the chances of Umran's potential debut in the South Africa series. Dravid believes Umran is learning and improving but they need to be realistic when it comes to giving the youngster some playing time during the series as he has a big squad at his disposal.

"Obviously, he is learning. He is a young boy and he is getting better, improving. The more he is able to play, the better he is going to get. We have to see how much playing time we can give him, we need to be realistic, we have a large squad, it is not possible to give everyone playing XI time," Dravid said at the pre-match presser in Delhi.

'We need to be realistic': Rahul Dravid on Umran Malik's potential debut for India in South Africa T20I series

Indian cricket team's head coach Rahul Dravid explained why it was important for captain Rohit Sharma to take a break from the team's upcoming T20I series against South Africa at home. Some experts felt Rohit should have continued playing following the recently-concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 and have led the side in the five T20Is against the Proteas. Rohit has been rested from the T20I series along with other senior players like Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami.

The Indian players will be returning to action for the first time since the conclusion of IPL 2022 on May 29. The members of the squad got a short break in between before assembling in New Delhi for the series-opener at the Arun Jaitely Stadium on Thursday (June 09). In Rohit's absence, KL Rahul will be leading the side against Temba Bavuma's men.

Explaining why it was crucial for Rohit to get a break, Dravid said the Indian skipper is an all-format player and needs to be provided adequate rest to ensure he is fit and fresh for the challenges ahead. The Indian head coach insisted there will be times when the team will have to rest their best players for a particular series to manage their workload.

“Rohit is our all-format player. It would be unwise to expect everyone to be available all the time. We want them to be fit and fresh as well. There would be times where we would have to rest our big players," Dravid responded to a reporter's query on Rohit at the presser on Tuesday.

Veteran wicket-keeper batter Dinesh Karthik managed to make a comeback to the Indian team after a long gap of three years on the back of his performances for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the recently-concluded IPL 2022. Karthik was phenomenal as a finisher for his team and played a number of crucial knocks down the order.

The veteran batter went on to amass 330 runs in 16 matches at an average of 55 and a brilliant strike rate of 183.33 to impress the selectors and make his return to the Indian team. He last featured for India during the ODI World Cup in 2019. When asked about his return, Dravid said Karthik will have a very clear role in the team of finishing games while batting down the order.

"With Dinesh, it is clear with the role. At the backend of the game, he can make a difference. That's why he has been picked, to bat in those positions and deliver for India as well," said Dravid.

India are gearing up to take on South Africa in a five-match T20I series at home starting from Thursday (June 09). The first T20I of the series will be played at the Arun Jaitely Stadium in New Delhi. The Indian players are back on national duty after the gruelling season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) which concluded on May 29 last month. The players will be hoping to hit the ground running in the opening game on Thursday.

In the absence of regular skipper Rohit Sharma and the likes of Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami, KL Rahul will be leading the team. While a number of youngsters have made the cut in the squad after an impressive IPL campaign, the likes of Hardik Pandya and Dinesh Karthik are also back.

Star batter Suryakumar Yadav will also miss the series due to an injury and in his absence, the onus will be on Shreyas Iyer to play a key role for the Men in Blue in the top four. Iyer is likely to bat at number three and will be hoping to continue his fine form with the bat in the five-match T20I series.

Iyer will also be aiming to go past Indian skipper Rohit in an elite list of batters. Iyer is just 191 runs away from completing 1,000 runs in T2OIs for India and can become the 3rd fastest batter to achieve the feat after Virat Kohli (29) and KL Rahul (32). Shreyas Iyer aims to surpass Rohit Sharma in elite list as India gear up for South Africa T20I series

Team India already have one eye on the forthcoming T20 World Cup, set to be held in Australia later this year, after their disastrous run in the last year's edition. Ahead of the showpiece event, former Indian captain, Kapil Dev slammed India's top order's T20 batting approach and asked them to strike at a higher rate.

The 1983 World Cup-winning skipper Kapil feels that Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli have the potential to go at a strike rate of 150-160, however, they restrict themselves and often get out while accelerating at the latter half of the innings, putting pressure on the rest of the batters. Kapil also went on to add that if they can't change their approach in a fast-moving game, they should be replaced by fresh faces.

"They have a big reputation and there's huge pressure on them, which shouldn't be the case. You have to play fearless cricket. All of these are players who can hit at a strike rate of 150-160. Whenever we need them to score runs, they all get out. When it is time to take off (in the innings), they are out. And that adds to pressure. Either you play an anchor or you play striker,” said Kapil on the Youtube channel Uncut.

When we need them to score runs, they get out: Kapil Dev on India's top order's T20 batting approach

Star India all-rounder Hardik Pandya is all set to make his comeback to the Indian team after spending a long spell on the sidelines due to his recovery from a back injury. Hardik was absolutely fantastic as a captain and a player for Gujarat Titans (GT) in the recently-concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 as he led his side to their maiden title in their debut season in the competition.

Hardik had opted for a break from all forms of cricket post the conclusion of the T20 World Cup 2021 last year to focus on recovering fully from his back issue. He ended up missing a number of important series for the Indian team before returning to action in IPL 2022. While there were doubts about whether he will manage to be on top of his game after his comeback, Hardik shunned his critics in style.

He is now set to make his comeback to the Indian team for the upcoming T20I series against South Africa and will be looking to continue his fine form with the bat and the ball. Ahead of the start of the five-match T20I rubber, Hardik recalled an interesting anecdote from his intial days with the Indian team.

Hardik had made his debut for the Indian team in a T20I against Australia in January 2016 after impressing for Mumbai Indians in the IPL. Hardik revealed he got ull backing from then captain MS Dhoni on his debut for the Indian team despite not bowling well in his very first over of the game.

Recalling his debut, Hardik said he had thought his first over could be the last over of his career but Dhoni showed faith in him and helped him bounce back. Hardik revealed Dhoni had assured him of a spot in the Indian squad for T20 World Cup 2016 after watching him just in his first three games for India.

“When I joined the Indian team, I saw guys whom I had seen growing up – Suresh Raina, Harbhajan Singh, Yuvraj Singh, MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Ashish Nehra. Even before I played for India, they were the stars. For me, when I went there it was a big thing," Hardik told the SGTV podcast.

"So obviously the kind of debut I had – I think I am the first cricketer who had gone for 21 runs in his first over – I genuinely felt that ok, this might be my last over. But I was very blessed and lucky to play under Mahi bhai who showed lot of trust in us which has helped us reach where we did.

"Just after the third game of my international career, Mahi bhai told me you will be in the World Cup team. So for me, to play World Cup or to get to know that in the third game I just got to know about this. I did not even bat in that game but he assured me that you have expressed yourself. Yeah, it was just a dream come true,” he added.

Hardik has since become a regular across all formats for the Indian team and is almost indispensable for the Men in Blue in white-ball cricket. The star all-rounder has played 11 Tests, 63 ODIs and 54 T20Is in his international career so far, amassing 532, 1286 and 553 runs in the three formats respectively.
Young Umran Malik took the recently-concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 by storm with his impressive show for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Umran was awarded the Emerging Player of the Tournament award after troubling the batters with his raw pace throughout the tournament. The 22-year-old clocked over 150 kmph consistently and also bowled the second fastest delivery in the tournament at 157 kmph behind only Lockie Ferguson, who produced a 157.3 kmph thunderbolt against Jos Buttler in the IPL 2022 final.

Umran was roped in by Sunrisers Hyderabad as a replacement for injured T Natarajan in IPL 2021 last year after impressing the team management as a net bowler for the franchise. He managed to play only a handful games in the IPL last year but did enough to convince the coaches of his extraordinary skills and talent.

The young fast bowler was retained by SRH ahead of the mega auction this year and went on to become a regular member of the playing XI this season. Umran rattled batters with his express pace and finished as the highest wicket-taker for SRH with 22 wickets from 14 matches. He also managed to earn his maiden call-up in the Indian team on the back of his impressive show in IPL 2022.

With Hardik's stunning comeback at the competitive level, the 28-year-old is set to also return for Team India in their forthcoming home T20Is versus South Africa, starting on June 09.

Hardik's fitness and all-round abilities were keenly observed by many during IPL 15. The 15th season was Hardik's return to competitive cricket after a long time, having been on a break following the 2021 T20 World Cup due to fitness concerns. While he did bowl at regular intervals, picking eight wickets, and amassed 487 runs for Gujarat, many feel he is now ready to make a comeback in the white-ball formats and slowly reappear in the red-ball side. However, former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri wants Hardik to only stick to T20Is till this year's World Cup, set to be held in Australia later this year.

"He will walk back into that squad for me either as a batter or as an all-rounder. I don't think he is that badly injured where he cannot bowl you two overs. He has had ample rest and he will continue to have ample rest because that's the only format he should play going into the World Cup. They shouldn't take the risk of making him play ODI cricket," said Shastri in Star Sports' show Game Plan.

Shastri further asserted how a fully fit Hardik is an asset for Team India, as he has the capability of doing two players' jobs.

"Massive, he does the job for two players. A Hardik Pandya playing just as a batter would mean he has to bat in the top four or five, but Hardik Pandya playing as an all-rounder means he can bat at five, six, or four and still bowl those two-three overs for you," said the ex-India coach.

In the last few years, Hardik hasn't bowled a lot -- in the IPL or for India -- due to back concerns. However, he bowled at regular intervals in IPL 15 and also clocked the 140kph mark in the first few matches.

Dinesh Karthik was phenomenal as a finisher for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the recently-concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. The veteran batter, who hasn't played much competitive cricket in the lead up to IPL 2022, shone with the willow and stood up for his team to bail them under pressure while batting in the lower-middle order. Karthik also managed to earn a call up in the Indian team with his sensational performances for RCB.

The 36-year-old wicket-keeper batter enjoyed a stunning season for RCB amassing 330 runs in 16 matches at an average of 55 and a stunning strike rate of 183.33. Karthik will be making his comeback to the Indian team after a gap of three years as he last played for the Men in Blue in the 2019 ODI World Cup in England.

Former India head coach Ravi Shastri recently spoke about Karthik's return to the Indian team and explained how the veteran wicket-keeper batter can cement his spot in the side. Shastri believes India needs someone like MS Dhoni, who can finish games for the team in the lower middle-order.

Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar recently revealed he intentionally wanted to hit Sachin Tendulkar during the Karachi Test between India and Pakistan in 2006. It was a memorable encounter between the two arch-rivals at the National Stadium in Karachi where Akhtar breathed fire with the ball against the Indian batters. Recalling the game, Akhtar said he was determined to wound Tendulkar at any cost during the match.

One of the fastest bowlers to have graced the game, Akhtar used to be a nightmare to face for the best of bowlers during his playing days.
Rohit Sharma's childhood coach wants Virat Kohli to break the legendary Sachin Tendulkar's record of 100 centuries in international cricket.
India and Australia were engaged in a gruelling four-match Test series in 2020/21 Down Under. During the last edition of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, in Australia, India had their back against the wall at most times but found ways to stage a comeback at all times to eventually beat the then Tim Paine-led Australia 2-1 in their own backyard and retain the BG Trophy.

After being 1-0 down following the series opener defeat, India was without then regular captain Virat Kohli -- who was out on maternity leave -- but defied all odds to emerge on top eventually. Under Ajinkya Rahane, India levelled the series in the second Test, at the MCG, and then pulled off a heist to save the third and penultimate encounter before winning the series finale by three wickets.

Recently, R Ashwin recalled India's miraculous SCG Test escape, where his and Hanuma Vihari's unbeaten 62-run sixth-wicket stand saved the visitors from the jaws of defeats. "It was surprising to me that I went bowling after the injury with painkillers. And bowled 13 or 14 over on the trot. It was so bad I was rolling on the floor because of the pain. My wife and kids helped me to stand and then the Physio came to check me. I went to the game crawling, but did my best," Ashwin told ANI.

The 62-run stand between Ashwin and Vihari helped India save the Test match when they were asked to chase 407. At one stage, India were 250-3 and on the attack courtesy of Rishabh Pant's 97 and Cheteshwar Pujara's gritty 77.

Hardik Pandya made heads turn in IPL 2022, where he led the Gujarat Titans (GT) to their maiden title in their first-ever edition. Ahead of the season, all eyes were on the star Indian all-rounder as he was set to mark his return to competitive cricket after a long time and his fitness levels were set to be examined by many.

However, Hardik rose to the occasion and fulfilled the role of a batter, bowler, whereas he did exceedingly well as a first-time captain in IPL. With the bat, Hardik amassed 487 runs -- his best tally in a season -- and claimed eight wickets, with three of them coming in the final, before leading GT to their maiden title. Thus, former Indian stumper Kiron More heaped praise on him and called him a four-dimensional player.

"The best moment for me in IPL 15 was the way Gujarat Titans played cricket. It was outstanding. And especially with Hardik becoming a captain and lifting the trophy, his personal performance was equally brilliant. Going from Mumbai Indians to Gujarat Titans, it’s not that easy to go and lead the new team and straightaway win the championship," More told SG podcast.

Krunal Pandya (his elder brother) had joined my academy, and Hardik used to hang around. He used to keep running behind the nets and catching the ball. That is when I told Krunal to bring him to nets as well, and that’s when I saw hunger in his eyes."

"For me, Hardik was a young kid who wanted to perform all the time. I now believe he is a four-dimensional player now. Earlier, he was a three-dimensional player because he was a bowler, batter, and fielder, but now he is captain as well. So, you feel proud that you have such a talented cricketer on the national side," More added.

Hardik will now shift his focus to the forthcoming India-South Africa T20I series at home. It will also mark his return to the Team India set up after the 2021 T20 World Cup. In Rohit Sharma's absence, KL Rahul will lead the 18-member squad.

KL Rahul was criticised by many for failing to change gears in time during his side Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)'s clash against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Eliminator of the recently-concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Chasing a big target of 208 runs, Rahul scored 79 off 58 balls for LSG but failed to get them over the line as they lost the game by 14 runs.

While his skills and talent is there to see for everyone, Rahul didn't quite manage to make the best use of his potential for LSG in IPL 2022. He was often scrutinised for being too slow in his approach and was also slammed by fans for not accelerating his strike rate despite the team being under pressure.

Rahul had yet another prolific season with the bat for LSG, amassing 616 runs in 15 matches for his team but failed to inspire them to their maiden title. LSG bowed out of the tournament after losing against RCB in the Eliminator. Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif recently shared his views on Rahul's batting.

Latif said there is no doubt that Rahul is a fine batter and a special player but he is not in the same league as the likes of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. The former Pakistan skipper explained that Rahul plays a lot of dot balls and needs to work on that to improve his game.

Former India head coach Ravi Shastri feels cricket should take a cue from football when it comes to the shortest format of the game. Shastri has urged the International Cricket Council (ICC) to discontinue bilateral T20 cricket and allow the major nations to run their own T20 franchise leagues. The former all-rounder said T20 cricket should be limited to only World Cups.

While there are rarely bilateral competitions in football, major countries have their own top leagues and they only take part in the FIFA World Cup and other major tournaments at the international level. However, that is not the case in cricket, where bilateral cricket forms a major chunk of the cricketing calendar every year.

Shastri, who coached India from 2017 to 2021, believes there is too much bilateral cricket to play for all international teams and that the ICC should restrict T20s for World Cups only. Shastri said he doesn't remember a single T20 game played by India in the last 6-7 years except those which were played at the World Cups.

Virender Sehwag remains a big name in world cricket. Sehwag was part of the golden era in Indian cricket where he rubbed shoulders and shared the dressing room with some superstar cricketers such as Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, MS Dhoni, etc.

Sehwag represented India in 104 Tests, 251 ODIs and 19 T20Is and was part of India's glorious wins in the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup. However, Sehwag wouldn't have played the 50-over World Cup in 2011 had it not been for Sachin Tendulkar. The former Indian opener recently revealed he was taken aback by his ODI omission, during the 2007/08 CB series which India won under MS Dhoni, and Tendulkar's advice helped him from rethinking about his retirement from the 50-over format.

"In 2008 when we were in Australia, this question (of retirement) came to my mind. I made a comeback in the Test series, scored a 150. In the ODIs, I couldn't score that much in three-four attempts. So MS Dhoni dropped me from the playing XI then the thought of quitting ODI cricket came to my mind. I thought I will continue playing only Test cricket," Sehwag told Cricbuzz.

He said 'this is a bad phase of your life. Just wait, go back home after this tour, think hard and then decide what to do next'. Luckily I didn't announce my retirement at that time," he added.
