In his message to the Indian cinema and entertainment fraternity, double Oscar-winner and music Director AR Rahman said that it was easy to divide people through art and movies, but now is the time to unite and celebrate differences.&nbsp;

The musician, popularly known as the 'Mozart of Madras' was speaking at the CII-Dakshin South India Media and Entertainment Summit, where he was presented with the 'Icon' award.&nbsp;

He recalled an interaction he had with a Chinese man in Malaysia and shared his thoughts on the same. While in Malaysia, on knowing that Rahman hailed from India, the Chinese man told him that he liked North India better and that North Indians were fairer (complexioned) and their movies were charming.&nbsp;

According to Rahman, this statement got him deeply disturbed and kept him thinking about what would have prompted the Chinese man to say such a thing and whether he had actually seen South Indian films. "Then I discovered what we need to do... Cast people with colour (dark complexion), make them empowering and give them characters that will give them dignity. This is the most important thing that South Indians can do because we love our colour" he added.&nbsp;

Filmmakers and the trade alike welcome the move saying it brings relief and encouragement to the film industry, which has been one of the worst-hit due to Covid lockdown. 
 
All eyes are now on the several productions lined up, particularly Rohit Shetty's Akshay Kumar-Katrina Kaif starrer 'Sooryavanshi'&nbsp;and Kabir Khan's '83' starring Ranveer Singh.

The key highlights of the new protocol are as follows: 
 
Thermal screening of visitors/staff is to be carried out at entry points. Only asymptomatic individuals shall be allowed to enter the premises. 
Provisions for hand sanitisation should be made available at all entry points and in work areas. 
 
Designated queue markers shall be made available for entry and exit of the audience from the auditorium and the premises. 
The exit should be done in a staggered row-wise manner to avoid crowding. 
 
Sufficient time interval between successive screenings on a single screen as well as on various screens in a multiplex shall be provided to ensure row-wise staggered entry and exit of the audience. 
 
Proper crowd management in the parking lots and outside the premises -- duly following physical distancing -- norms shall be ensured. 
The number of people in the elevators shall be restricted, duly maintaining physical distancing norms. 
 
Efforts shall be made to avoid overcrowding in the common areas, lobbies and washrooms during the intermission. The audience&nbsp;may be encouraged to avoid movement during the intermission. Longer intermissions may be used to allow the audience seated in different rows of the auditorium to move.

The key highlights of the new protocol are as follows: Thermal screening of visitors/staff is to be carried out at entry points. Only asymptomatic individuals shall be allowed to enter the premises. Provisions for hand sanitisation should be made available at all entry points and in work areas. Designated queue markers shall be made available for entry and exit of the audience from the auditorium and the premises. The exit should be done in a staggered row-wise manner to avoid crowding. Sufficient time interval between successive screenings on a single screen as well as on various screens in a multiplex shall be provided to ensure row-wise staggered entry and exit of the audience. Proper crowd management in the parking lots and outside the premises -- duly following physical distancing -- norms shall be ensured. The number of people in the elevators shall be restricted, duly maintaining physical distancing norms. Efforts shall be made to avoid overcrowding in the common areas, lobbies and washrooms during the intermission. The audience may be encouraged to avoid movement during the intermission. Longer intermissions may be used to allow the audience seated in different rows of the auditorium to move.

The festival, which was conceptualised in 2010, has seen cinema stalwarts such as Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, Priyanka Chopra, Vidya Balan, Kangana Ranaut, Rajkumar Hirani, Kabir Khan, Nikkhil Advani, Rani Mukerji, Freida Pinto, Richa Chadha, Konkona Sensharma and Ali Fazal as attendees.&nbsp; 
 
"We are looking forward to another year of celebrating Indian cinema here in Melbourne. The festival has grown from strength to strength. This has been a tremendous journey for us so far as an institution. I'm glad that we are moving into our decade long promise and promotion of Indian cinema down under.&nbsp; 
"Courage has been chosen as our theme to celebrate films of diversity and strong storytelling. Our message and intent has always been to promote cinema beyond any boundaries," Lange said in a statement. 
 
She said the festival has found support not only from the Indian film industry but also from Film Victoria and the Victorian government. 
 
"We have always been and continue being committed to unification of stories that induce inclusiveness and showcase diversity. This year as we commence our 10th annual festival, we are gearing to celebrate our core theme of courage and we are elated to be welcoming another annual period of celebrating Indian cinema," she added.
