Former England captain Nasser Hussain has backed India great Virat Kohli to break the deadlock and come good with the bat on the big day as India and South Africa gear up for the T20 World Cup Final in Barbados on Saturday (June 29). Having scored just 75 runs in seven matches while opening the batting in this edition. Kohli has struggled big time, getting out to single digits on several occasions. With all eyes on Team India and their batting mainstay, Hussain feels Kohli will up his game against the Proteas.

Recalling how the batting veteran weathered the storm against Pakistan at the MCG the last time, Hussain said players like Kohli come good on the days when it matters the most, and what’s better than doing it in the T20 WC final?

"I mean, you go back to the game against Pakistan at the MCG, India were floundering. Who was there at the end? Smashing. That's the biggest game of all time for the Indians. India, Pakistan, you know. So, he is always there in big matches," Nasser Hussain said during a chat on Sky Sports.

Squashing the idea of Kohli changing his style of play, which hasn’t helped him nor the team in any way in this tournament, Hussain feels Virat must continue to bat like he’s batted for over a decade, in a very Virat Kohli style, instead trying to become someone whom he’s not. Hussain added Kohli has all the shots in his book, and despite a healthy strike rate of around 138, he can stick around and act as a glue.&nbsp;

“I personally and others will disagree because you want to set the tone throughout the team. I personally think Virat Kohli should bat like he's batted over the last decade. He's got a strike rate of 138.&nbsp;

“He can be the glue, the rot, you know, they all bat around, and they all come in playing their shots. You cannot doubt Kohli as a player. You cannot doubt him in a big match. He has suffered because of that New York pitch because he had a brilliant IPL,” Hussain continued.

Virat entered the tournament on the back of yet another fantastic IPL season; however, playing on tricky New York pitches earlier in the T20 World Cup broke his rhythm, something he hasn't overcome&nbsp;yet.

"He was fantastic in that. So, he came into the tournament in form. But he has suffered because of that New York pitch. Since then, every bit of footage from the Indian camp has been practising in the nets, with Raul Dravid trying to get the rhythm of batting. He is a rhythm player.

"He's not like Hardik Pandya, who is a power player. You just go out and power here. Virat Kohli needs time in the middle rhythm. He bats for 3–4 overs and gets that rhythm. That timing comes back and, at the end, under pressure. Who will India want at the end? In a big game, they will want Kohli," Hussain noted.&nbsp;

<h2>Virat comes good in the final</h2>

Having faced criticism for his poor form in the tournament, Virat proved both Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid right as they predicted he will come good in the final. After India were down to 34/3 in the fifth over, he constructed his innings well despite having a below-par strike rate. His 76-run knock consisted of 6 fours and 2 sixes and stitched a partnership of 72 runs for the fourth wicket with Axar Patel (47). It was Virat’s 38th fifty in the T20I format as he returned to form for the Men in Blue. &nbsp;

Virat had scored 77 runs in the final of the 2014 T20 World Cup final where India ended on the losing side. His 35-run innings in the 2011 ODI World Cup was also applauded when he came out to bat in a difficult situation. Virat also scored 54 in the 2023 ODI World Cup final defeat to Australia.

T20 World Cup 2024: Virat Kohli continues impressive run in World Cup finals with 76-run knock against SA

Team India had a brilliant start to their bowling innings as Jasprit Bumrah jolted the Proteas in his first over of the T20 World Cup final. Bumrah, already having a spectacular T20 World Cup in West Indies got the better of Reeza Hendricks with a perfect delivery as India gained momentum in the final. The Men in Blue are defending 177 runs in the final after Virat Kohli came back into form with a 76-run knock.

<h2>Bumrah on a roll</h2>

Having inspired India to win against Pakistan and Australia, Bumrah was once again India’s man for the big occasion as he got the better of Hendricks on the third ball of the second over. The Proteas batter did not judge the flight of an inward-moving ball he left. However, the ball would directly go on to disturb his stumps, resulting in the first breakthrough of the innings for India. The wicket left Hendricks stunned while India celebrated with ecstasy.

Soon the joy would get double as South Africa lost skipper Aiden Markram on the third ball of the next over. Both Hendricks and Markram were dismissed for identical scores of 4 off 5 which left South Africa at 12/2.

T20 World Cup 2024, Final: Virat Kohli hits 76 as India set South Africa 177 to win title

The stage is set&nbsp;for the T20 World Cup final as South Africa square off against India in a mouth-watering clash on Saturday (June 29) at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados. The contest will be pivotal for both sides as India try to end their 17-year drought for a T20 World Cup title while South Africa will be on a hunt for their maiden world title. But rain could be an uninvited guest for the final and influence the result of the match.

The contest will have a reserve day which comes as a huge relief for the fans if rain plays spoilsport in the contest. However, if rain plays spoilsport on the reserve day, then the International Cricket Council (ICC) will face an unlikely situation that could see the set of fans divided.

<h2>What is the provision if reserve day gets washed out?</h2>

The match will only move into a reserve day if rain plays spoilsport on Saturday, meaning the match will start on Sunday from the point where it was stopped. A washout will only become effective on the reserve day if the team batting second does not play a minimum of 10 overs. Once the match is abandoned both India and South Africa will be declared joint winners with India adding to their only title from 2007 while South Africa will add a World Cup to their trophy cabinet.

Explained: What will happen if India-South Africa T20 World Cup final gets washed out on reserve day

South Africa captain Aiden Markram admits his team is not feeling complacent about their performances in this T20 World Cup; he said there is a hunger to go out (in Barbados) against India and win their maiden ICC World Cup. Markram also talked about the dressing room environment following the semis win, saying everyone was happy; he added the message was clear that the goal isn’t achieved yet, with the decider remaining.

“We were obviously a happy bunch the other night after qualifying for the final, but it's amazing..." Markram said ahead of the T20 World Cup Final.&nbsp;

“I'm sure all teams do it, but straight after that game in the changing room, you still reflect, and you say, guys, we've still got one more step to go. So, it's not driven by coach or by captain. The whole unit sort of feels that and is driven by that.

“As general, sportsmen are highly competitive people, and nobody would want to lose and especially not lose in a final. So, I think there's no sense that the guys are satisfied regardless of the result tomorrow. I think there's still a massive hunger for us to go out and win tomorrow's game,” the South African captain noted.

Meanwhile, the Proteas Team had some trouble landing in Barbados, as they reached six hours later than their scheduled time because of a runway closure in Bridgetown due to an issue with a private plane.&nbsp;

“We were obviously a happy bunch the other night after qualifying for the final, but it's amazing..." Markram said ahead of the T20 World Cup Final. ‘There is a massive hunger for us to win’, says Aiden Markram on facing India in T20 World Cup Final

Seven months after their unfortunate loss in the ODI World Cup final, Team India will have one more shot at glory as they take on South Africa in the final of the T20 World Cup. The contest which will be the first time India and South Africa play in a major World Cup final will see one of the two teams end as the invincible champions. Rohit Sharma’s side will start as the favourites on paper in the summit clash on Saturday (June 29) at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados but South Africa can’t be taken lightly as they too enter the final with an unbeaten record.

<h2>India eye glory</h2>

Having missed out on the ODI World Cup title in November in their own backyard, India will have the opportunity to erase the sorrowful memories on Saturday. One area of concern will be the form of Virat Kohli and Shivam Dube with both unable to find their best form in the tournament. Virat has scored 75 runs in seven matches so far while Dube has hardly contributed to the Indian batting. India will rely heavily on the services of Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya in the batting while Jasprit Bumrah, Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav will be key to their success with the ball.

India will be expected to go unchanged for the final contest as they are unlikely to change the winning combination. This also means that Mohammed Siraj will have to be content with a place on the bench.

<h2>Can South Africa go all the way?</h2>

Aiden Markram’s side will step in their maiden World Cup final at the senior level considering they lost at the semifinal stage in the last 32 years in different tournaments. The Proteas have been flawless until this point and will look to continue their impressive run. They will heavily depend on the batting form of Quinton de Kock, Reeza Hendricks, Markram and David Miller while the bowling responsibility will lie on the shoulders of Keshav Maharaj, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje and Tabraiz Shamsi.

IND vs SA, T20 World Cup Final Preview: Team India eye second title as resolute Proteas stand in the way

Team India is all set to take guard&nbsp;in its&nbsp;first T20 World Cup final in a decade as they face South Africa on Saturday (June 29) at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados. The contest will provide a huge opportunity to Team India in ending&nbsp;their 17-year drought to win the T20 World Cup. It&nbsp;will also end the Men in Blue's 11-year wait for an ICC trophy. Ahead of the latest final we flashback on what happened last time India played in the final of the T20 World Cup.

<h2>Virat stars, but India fails</h2>

The team led by MS Dhoni in the 2014 T20 World Cup had got the better of India’s opponent&nbsp;South Africa in the semis on Saturday. Having lost the finals in two of the last three editions before the 2014 final (in 2009 and 2012), Sri Lanka were the second-favourite to win the T20 World Cup with Dhoni’s side hailed as the best in the world. However, the team was nowhere near their best in the final with Virat Kohli being the lone warrior.

Batting first, team India scored 130/4 in their 20 overs in Dhaka as the Men in Blue were never in the contest. Virat top-scored with 77 off 58 before being run out on the final ball of the innings as India missed out on a big score. The now India skipper Rohit Sharma scored 29 off 26 and had a tough day at the office.

<h2>Yuvraj Singh makes headlines for the wrong reasons</h2>

Having led India to the ODI World Cup title in 2011, Yuvraj Singh had seen plenty of downs than ups before making it to the Indian team in the 2014 edition. However, his performance in the final was the focal point of criticism as he scored 11 runs off 21 deliveries with a strike rate of 52.38. He was slammed for his show with the bat, with many former players believing it was Yuvraj’s approach that saw India lose the final.

In response, Sri Lanka chased down the total in a one-sided contest as they won the final with 13 balls to spare. Kumar Sangakkara top scored with 52 while other batters also contributed to Sri Lanka’s only T20 World Cup win which also secured their second title at the global stage having won the 1996 ODI World Cup. &nbsp;

Flashback: What happened last time Team India played in the T20 World Cup final?

The 2024 T20 World Cup final between India and South Africa will get underway at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on Saturday (June 29). The two teams are unbeaten thus far in the tournament, with the summit clash to separate one from winning the title. With the cricket world preparing for the summer's biggest match, fans worldwide would be eager to know about the weather conditions and the pitch report.

<h2>Weather condition&nbsp;in Barbados</h2>

Given how the second semi-final between India and England unfolded, with rain interruptions&nbsp; making it frustrating for the players and the fans, everyone is asking one question – will it rain during the T20 World Cup final?

Per AccuWeather, there are chances of showers before and during the finale.&nbsp;

Though there is an approx&nbsp;50% chance of precipitation during the morning from 4 am to 9 am, the number reduces to 30% between 10 am (scheduled toss time) and 1 pm, while increasing to 50% after that.&nbsp;

For the game to be complete, 190 minutes of extra time will be allotted, but in case of excess rain abandoning Saturday’s play, the match will move to the reserve day (on Sunday).&nbsp;

In case the game gets underway on Saturday and later is stopped due to&nbsp;rain, the match&nbsp;will begin from that same point on Sunday instead of starting from scratch.&nbsp;

Besides, for the result to come out on either day, both teams must play for at least ten overs, or else the finale would be called off, with both teams sharing the trophy.

<h3>Pitch report</h3>

It will be the ninth game taking place at this venue this edition. While the first game here went till the Super Over, none of the following matches were close contests. In the next four games at this venue, teams batting first won three times, with Scotland racing to 90 for no loss against England in a washout tie.

Meanwhile, the last two matches in Barbados suggest a different story, as West Indies and England wrapped up the USA early, completing a successful run chase quickly.&nbsp;

Though South Africa hasn't played at this venue, India’s lone match against Afghanistan saw them defend&nbsp;182.

<h3>Result Prediction</h3>

Two unbeaten teams will have a go at each other for the T20 World Cup title, with the Men in Blue entering this contest as favourites.&nbsp;

Should India beat South Africa, it will be their second T20 title, but if the Proteas emerge victorious, they would be putting their hands on a WC trophy for the first time.&nbsp;

T20 World Cup Final, India vs South Africa: Will rain play spoilsport in showdown tie?

Rohit Sharma’s Team India is on the brink of breaking their T20 World Cup jinx as they stand for an opportunity to win the title against South Africa on Saturday (June 29) in Barbados. While Virat Kohli and Shivam Dube’s form will concern the side, the Indian team will also get worried by ICC’s latest announcement on Friday. According to ICC, England’s Richard Kettleborough will be one of the officials for the T20 World Cup final.

<h2>Kettleborough returns to Jinx India?</h2>

Indian fans will be concerned by the addition of Kettleborough in the officiating panel of Saturday’s final as the Men of Blue have a poor record whenever he has been in charge of a knockout game. India have lost finals and semifinals whenever Kettleborough has taken charge as an on-field umpire. This includes the 2014 T20 World Cup final, the 2017 Champions Trophy final and the 2023 ODI World Cup.

However, the only relief for India will be that the Englishman will be the third umpire and won’t take charge on the field when India square off against South Africa. This time the on-field officials include Chris Gaffaney and Richard Illingworth with Richie Richardson taking on the role of match referee.

Interestingly, India lost by 10 wickets in the 2022 T20 World Cup semifinal to the same opponent while defending 170. India are expected to go unchanged for the final with Shivam Dube still in contention for a place in the Playing XI.

T20 World Cup Final: Warning signs for Team India as Richard Kettleborough set to officiate in summit clash

India’s Shafali Verma scripted a unique chapter in women’s cricket on Friday (June 28) against South Africa women after she scored the fastest double hundred in the format. Shafali, playing in her fifth Test match scored 205 off 197 balls before getting out, but made sure she wrote her name in the history books. She also became the second Indian woman to score a double hundred in the Test format after Mithali Raj, who did so in August 2002 against England in Taunton.

<h2>Shafali scripts history</h2>

Having decided to bat first after winning the toss, the decision proved to be right for India Women at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The opening pair of Smriti Mandaha (149) and Shafali put on 292 runs for the first opening wicket before the former was dismissed. However, 20-year-old Shafali continued her superb form to bring the fastest Test double hundred in the red-ball format. It took 194 balls for the Indian opener to reach the feat and claim the record to her name.

Her innings consisted of 23 fours and 8 huge sixes before she was the victim of poor running between the wickets in the 75th over and was run out. In doing so she also joined Mithali’s record of scoring a double hundred, when she amassed 214 against England. It took almost 22 years for another Indian woman to score the double ton, while she only missed out on breaking Mithali's record by 10 runs before being run out.

Batting first, India women ended Day 1 at 525/4 in 98 overs with skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (42) and wicketkeeper batter Richa Ghosh (43) in the middle. The pair has put up 75 runs for the fifth wicket and will be eager to add more on Day 2 of the Test match. Jemimah Rodrigues with 55 runs also made a valuable addition to the score. India will now be looking to stamp their authority on the contest.

Shafali Verma hits fastest double hundred in one-off Test against South Africa

Logistical challenges continue to haunt the organisers, the players and their families, the broadcasters and ICC match officials. With the USA and the West Indies hosting the ongoing 2024 T20 World Cup, rapid changes to the schedule and short turnaround between matches haven’t spared anyone. The South African Team is the latest to be hit by such an obstacle.

After winning their semi-final match against Afghanistan on Thursday (June 27) in the most one-sided affair, the Proteas team, their staff and everyone else got stranded at the Trinidad airport because of a runway closure at the Grantley Adams airport in Barbados, the venue for the T20 WC final. It was due to a landing failure of a small private plane.&nbsp;

"It appeared that the landing gear of the private aircraft did not deploy, but it is currently on the runway at GAIA [Grantley Adams International Airport] safely," Sharleen Brown, Corporate Communication Specialist with GAIA, said in a statement. She also confirmed that all three individuals on board - two passengers and a pilot - were unharmed.

<h2>‘Delay causes frustration’</h2>

With several cases of flight delays and logistic failures making headlines during this tournament alone, the worst was when three teams - Sri Lanka, South Africa and Ireland, were forced to spend the night at the airport when travelling from Florida to New York earlier during the group stages. More so for Afghanistan, who played their last Super 8 match in the wee hours on Tuesday, and had their flight delayed before taking the field again for their first semi-final on Wednesday night.

Meanwhile, the Proteas&nbsp;qualified for their first-ever World Cup final across formats. Led by Aiden Markram, South Africa was the first to qualify for the final after beating Afghanistan by nine wickets.&nbsp;

With the USA and the West Indies hosting the ongoing 2024 T20 World Cup, rapid changes to the schedule and short turnaround between matches haven’t spared anyone. The South African Team is the latest to be hit by such an obstacle. After winning their semi-final match against Afghanistan on Thursday (June 27) in the most one-sided affair, the Proteas team, their staff and everyone else got stranded at the Trinidad airport because of a runway closure at the Grantley Adams airport in Barbados, the venue for the T20 WC final. It was due to a landing failure of a small private plane. Meanwhile, the pilot (of the flight consisting of players, their families and officials) received information about the obstacle at the airport in Bridgetown just before takeoff. Logistical challenges hit T20 WC before India-South Africa final as Proteas team landing delayed in Barbados

After 52 gruelling encounters in the 2024 T20 World Cup, being held in West Indies and the USA, the stage is set for the semifinals. India, defending champions England, Afghanistan and South Africa are in&nbsp;the last four. While South Africa and Afghanistan will lock horns in the first semifinal in Trinidad on Wednesday (June 26, local time), India and England will meet in the second semifinal on Thursday (June 27) in Guyana. The cricket fans are eagerly waiting for the two semis with one eye on the weather.

<h2>What happens if the two semis are affected by rain?</h2>

It is to be noted that there is a reserve day for the first semifinal, between the Afghans and unbeaten Aiden Markram-led South Africa. However, the second semifinal between India and England doesn't have a reserve day. However, four extra hours will be added, if need be, to determine a result. In case both the semifinals are entirely washed out, India and South Africa -- the two unbeaten teams in the ongoing 20-nation tournament -- will meet in the final for topping their respective groups in the Super 8s. Markram-led Proteas topped Group 2, comprising co-hosts West Indies, England and USA, whereas Rohit Sharma &amp; Co. topped Group 1, which also included Australia, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.

It is to be noted that the weather forecast for the India-England semifinal is not encouraging.&nbsp;There is high possibility of thundershowers during the high-voltage clash, having no reserve day.

<h2>What happens if even the final is washed out?</h2>

The summit clash will be held at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on Saturday (June 29). The big-ticket finale has a reserve day in store. However, if still there is no result possible, with rain likely to make its presence felt, then both the finalists will be declared joint-winners.&nbsp;

In the history of all ICC events, only once have two teams ended as joint-winners; during the 2002 Champions Trophy when both India and hosts Sri Lanka got a hand at the trophy.

T20 WC 2024: EXPLAINED! What if both semifinals wash out? Who wins in case final is also called off?

Rohit Sharma-led Team India has been on a roll in the ongoing T20 World Cup, being held in West Indies and the USA. Along with South Africa, they are the only unbeaten side in the 20-nation tournament and will face Australia in a crucial Super 8 encounter, from Group 1, in St. Lucia on Monday (June 24). A win will help India reach the semifinals and also extend their unbeaten streak to seven games in the tournament (including&nbsp;a washout). The one-time winners can also qualify for the semis even with a loss versus Australia.&nbsp;

From Group 1, India are firm favourites to top the group and qualify ahead. After a loss to Afghanistan, Australia have to beat India at all costs whereas Afghanistan are the third contender. The Afghans face Bangladesh&nbsp;on Tuesday (June 25, IST), after the India-Australia clash, and both sides have a chance to go ahead (with a very slim chance for the Bangla Tigers).

A win or a washout versus the Aussies will confirm India's top-spot finish in the group. If a scenario arises where India, Australia and Afghanistan are tied with four points and the Rohit Sharma-led side's Net Run Rate (NRR) is also severely affected, they will still finish second (their elimination is very unlikely; only if Australia and Afghanistan win by big margins). Thus, here is decoding who India will face in the semifinals.

It is South Africa and England who have qualified from Group 2. Proteas topped the group with a thrilling win over co-hosts West Indies&nbsp;on Sunday (June 23, local time). Hence, if India end Group 2 as the toppers, they will face Jos Buttler &amp; Co. in the second semifinal on Thursday (June 27) in Guyana.&nbsp;

On the other hand, if the 2007 winners end second in their group, they will come head-to-head with Aiden Markram-led Proteas.&nbsp;

Dean Elgar, South Africa's former opener who recently retired from international cricket, had a stellar career in Test cricket. Ending as one of the greats of South African cricket, Elgar made a mark for his resilient approach with the bat and amassed&nbsp;5,347 runs in Tests, including 14 centuries. During his Test career, he had a fierce rivalry with many, including Indian star Virat Kohli.

During a recent interaction, Elgar spoke at length on how Kohli sledged him during his first tour of India. Speaking of the altercation, Elgar said on Banter with The Boys podcast, "I came in to bat and, I was actually like holding my own against Ashwin and what’s his name Jeja, Jeja, Jeja (Ravindra Jadeja) and Kohli spat at me. I said to him if you do that, I’ll **** you with this bat."

On being asked if Kohli understood&nbsp;the local slang, Elgar was quick to point out that he did&nbsp;because he had AB de Villiers as his teammate at the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) camp in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Elgar stated, "Yes, he did because de Villiers was his teammate at RCB, so he understood. And I said if you do that, I’ll **** on this field, I’ll absolutely knock you out. And then [he said] ‘Hey **** you, **** you’ (mimicking Kohli), barking up the wrong tree. Anyways, we are in India so you got to be a little bit cautious."

<h2>De Villiers asked Kohli 'why are you spitting at my teammate?'</h2>

The former SA batter added, "De Villiers found out what he did, and went up to him and asked 'why are you spitting at my teammate?' Two years later in South Africa, he called me and asked&nbsp;if he could go with me for a drink after the series. He said he wanted to apologise for his action." He concluded by saying, "We drank till 3 and ya, that was my first encounter with Kohli."

During Elgar's farewell Test, which was the second and final Test between SA and India in Cape Town&nbsp;early this year, Kohli was seen embracing&nbsp;the Proteas opener. The two were seen&nbsp;spending time on the ground at the end of the Test match with the Indian acknowledging Elgar's run in Tests.&nbsp;

At present, Kohli is not part of India's squad for the ongoing England Tests at home till the second Test. He is out of action due to personal reasons.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has rated the Newlands pitch as 'unsatisfactory.' The pitch, located in Cape Town, South Africa had hosted the second Test of the two-match series between India and the African nation. The match, however, got over inside five sessions and visitors India won by seven wickets. The match saw only 642 balls being bowled, making it the shortest completed Test in history in terms of ball bowled.

The ICC reached the decision after referee Chris Broad submitted his report. Cricket South Africa now has 14 days to appeal the decision.

“The pitch in Newlands was very difficult to bat on," Broad said in his report, noted the ICC. "The ball bounced quickly and sometimes alarmingly throughout the match, making it difficult to play shots. Several batters were hit on the gloves and many wickets also fell due to the awkward bounce.”

According to the ICC Pitch and Outfield Monitoring Process, a venue gets certain demerit points after being rated as substandard. If that specific venue reaches six demerits points then a ban of 12 months from hosting the games is levied by the ICC.

If the venue reaches 12 demerit points then its is barred by the ICC to host any international games for a period of 24 months. The demerit points, once given to a venue, remain valid for a rolling five-year period.

India skipper Rohit Sharma had also called out the ICC after the Cape Town Test got over. The match saw 23 wickets falling on day 1 of the game with both teams getting all-out once. Rohit had called out the Newlands pitch as nightmare and said: "It's okay for the ball to seam and swing from day one but not when it spins. In my opinion, this is unfair."&nbsp;

"Honestly, I would like to see how the pitches are rated. I want to see that. Whatever... that chart, I would love to see it, how they rate the pitches, because Mumbai, Bangalore, Cape Town, Centurion, all different venues, overhead conditions are different. The pitches deteriorate quite fast when the sun is beating down that hard on the pitch,” he added in the post-match press conference.

India vs South Africa, 2nd Test: ICC rates Newlands pitch as ‘unsatisfactory’

Former Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar has criticised the SENA (South Afrcia, England, New Zealand and Australia) countries for having double standards about the pitches. The comments come after India's second Test against South Africa in Cape Town got over inside two days. The Test, which India won by seven wickets, saw 23 wickets falling on the first day.

“These kind of excuses that the curator got it wrong is typical of the SENA countries,” Gavaskar wrote in his column for news outlet Mid-day.&nbsp;

“When our curators make a dry pitch then it’s ‘chicanery’, as a former Australian skipper said last year after the Aussies had been walloped in the first two Test matches," he added referring to Australia's tour of India in early 2023.

"So our groundsmen do it deliberately, but their groundsmen just get it wrong. It’s like before the third country umpires came in, where decisions by their umpires were excused as ‘human error’ while our umpires were cheats and ‘Delhi Butchers’ and all such derogatory headlines,” continued Gavaskar.

Notably, India skipper Rohit Sharma had also slammed the International Cricket Council (ICC) for pitch rating procedure after the Cape Town Test.&nbsp;

"It's okay for the ball to seam and swing from day one but not when it spins. In my opinion, this is unfair," Rohit had said.

India's next Test assignment is a five-Test home series against England and Gavaskar did not shy from throwing shades at the British media ahead of the tour.

“In about three weeks time another Test series starts with a country that has the biggest whingeing and moaning media in sport. Anything that doesn’t suit their team will be criticised and allegations will fly thick and fast,” he wrote.

England tour of India starts on January 25 with first Test set to be played in Hyderabad.

The Test, which India won by seven wickets, saw 23 wickets falling on the first day. “These kind of excuses that the curator got it wrong is typical of the SENA countries,” Gavaskar wrote in his column for news outlet Mid-day. “When our curators make a dry pitch then it’s ‘chicanery’, as a former Australian skipper said last year after the Aussies had been walloped in the first two Test matches," he added referring to Australia's tour of India in early 2023. Also Read: BCCI selectors 'looking beyond' wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan in T20Is, says report "So our groundsmen do it deliberately, but their groundsmen just get it wrong. It’s like before the third country umpires came in, where decisions by their umpires were excused as ‘human error’ while our umpires were cheats and ‘Delhi Butchers’ and all such derogatory headlines,” continued Gavaskar. Notably, India skipper Rohit Sharma had also slammed the International Cricket Council (ICC) for pitch rating procedure after the Cape Town Test.

Former India skipper Sunil Gavaskar slams SENA countries for double-standards about pitches

India skipper Rohit Sharma blasted the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Thursday (Jan 4) after his side beat hosts South Africa in the second Test match in Cape Town. After the seven-wicket win, the shortest Test match in the history of the format, Rohit took a dig at ICC and its rating policy for pitches. According to the Indian skipper, the Newlands pitch was a nightmare to play while downplaying ICC’s rating for the pitch used in Ahmedabad for the ODI World Cup final in November.

<h2>Rohit blasts ICC</h2>

"I still can't believe that the World Cup final pitch was rated below average. A batsman got a hundred there in the final. How can that be a poor pitch? So these are the things the ICC, the match referees, they need to look into and start rating pitches based on what they see, not based on the countries. I think that's quite important,” Rohit said in the post-match press conference.

Ahmedabad pitch was rated unsatisfactory according to the ICC when India lost to Australia in the World Cup final. Travis Head was declared Player of the Match having scored a hundred while almost 500 runs were scored in the match. However, according to Rohit’s reaction on Thursday, the pitch in Cape Town was a batter’s nightmare and ICC should rework its rating policy.

"Honestly, I would like to see how the pitches are rated. I want to see that. Whatever... that chart, I would love to see it, how they rate the pitches, because Mumbai, Bangalore, Cape Town, Centurion, all different venues, overhead conditions are different. The pitches deteriorate quite fast when the sun is beating down that hard on the pitch,” the skipper added.

<h2>What happened in the match?</h2>

After deciding to bat first on Day 1 on Wednesday, the hosts were bowled out for 55 in their first innings with Mohammed Siraj ending with figures of 15/6. In reply, India were bowled out for 153 after a record six ducks in their innings. Interestingly, India went from 105/2 to 153 all out, losing their last eight wickets for just 48 runs. In reply, South Africa came out to bat again on Day 1 and were 62/3 at Stumps as they trailed by 98 runs in the first innings.

Earlier on Day 2, India made sure they were on top but Aiden Markam stood firm to hold one end. Despite being a bowler-dominated contest Markram scored 106 before his side was bowled out for 176. Jasprit Bumrah was the star of the show for India with the ball as he ended with figures of 61/6 in the second innings. Mukesh Kumar ended with two while Siraj and Prashidh Krishna got one wicket each.

In reply India chased down their target in 12 overs, making sure they were part of the history books as the Cape Town Test went down as the shortest in the history of the game. Rohit Sharma scored an unbeaten 17 while Yashasvi Jaiswal was the top scorer with 28 while Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli scored 10 and 12 respectively.

SA vs IND 2nd Test: Rohit Sharma blasts ICC over pitch rating policy after India's win in Cape Town

India beat South Africa by seven wickets on Day Two of the second and final Test, at Newlands, Cape Town, on Thursday (Jan 4) to end the two-match series at a 1-1 stalemate in the African nation. This became India's maiden Test win at the venue and also only their second instance of drawing a red-ball series on South African soil.

With this, India jumped to the top spot in the updated ICC World Test Championship (WTC) points table. Rohit Sharma &amp; Co. gained 12 points following their inspiring series-levelling win to replace the Proteas from the top. It is to be noted that India ended 2023 at the sixth spot in the WTC points table after a big loss to South Africa in Centurion. Back then, SA took the top spot but India&nbsp;replaced them on Thursday.&nbsp;

Talking about the Cape Town Test, SA opted to bat first.&nbsp;India rode on Mohammed Siraj's 6 for 15 to dismantle SA's batting order and dismiss them for a paltry 55. On Day Two, Jasprit Bumrah's 6 for 61 dismissed the African side for 176 despite opener Aiden Markram's 106. Chasing 79, India achieved&nbsp;the target in 12 overs. Thus, this also became the shortest Test ever, in terms of fewest balls bowled, which produced a result.

At the post-match presentation, a jubilant Indian skipper Rohit said, "A great feat. In Centurion, we had to learn from the mistakes. We came back very well, especially our bowlers. Had some plans and the boys got rewarded. We applied ourselves, we batted well to get a 100-run lead, not pleasing to see the last six wickets. We knew that it's going to be a short game, we knew every run matters, to get that lead was very important."

Hitman added, "We would have loved to win the series. South Africa is a great team, they always challenges&nbsp;us, they are such a good team. We can take a lot of pride from this performance."

Updated WTC 2023/25 standings: India claim top spot after historic win in Cape Town vs South Africa

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has amended its rule books in the New Year to avoid players taking advantage of the&nbsp;loopholes. According to the amendment, the TV umpire will no longer check for caught behind when he is checking for stumping. Earlier, the loophole allowed the fielding side to review the incident without the use of a Decision Review System (DRS) and hence the ICC has now tightened its grip on such incidents. The rule change will mean, that teams will have to use DRS to challenge for the caught behind and can no longer use the 'fake appeal' to review the on-field umpire’s call.

<h2>ICC to avoid loopholes</h2>

"The change confines a stumping review to only check for stumped, therefore preventing the fielding team a free review for other modes of dismissal (i.e, caught behind) without choosing a player review," read ICC's new amendment.

In 2023, Aussie wicketkeeper Alex Carey made use of the loophole&nbsp;which allowed him to challenge the caught behind call without the use of DRS. He appealed for stumping which forced the leg umpire to go through protocols directed for such incidents. According to the previous protocols, umpires were entitled to check for those caught behind even if the appeal was for stumping. However, this won’t be the case anymore and teams will have to use DRS to challenge such calls. The umpires will be provided only camera frames essential for stumping reviews.

The new rules have come into effect from 12 December 2023 and if a team wants to review a caught behind appeal they will have to use the DRS.

In another change of rule, a concussion substitution cannot bowl if the player he is substituting is suspended from bowling at the time of the concussion. The ICC also has limited to four minutes of the time set for on-field injury assessment and treatment.

On Thursday (Jan 4), India ended the second and final Test versus South Africa, at Newlands, Cape Town, with an impressive seven-wicket win. This marked their first-ever Test win&nbsp;at the venue as Rohit Sharma &amp; Co. ended the two-match series at 1-1. Thus, India ended with a drawn Test series&nbsp;in South Africa for only the second time -- after 2010/11 tour.

The match also scripted a world record of being the shortest Test ever, in terms of fewest balls bowled, which produced a result.&nbsp;

Fewest balls in a Test match (not drawn):
642 - SA v IND at Cape Town, 2024
656 - AUS v SA at Melbourne, 1932
672 - WI v ENG at Bridgetown, 1935

The contest started off on a brilliant note for India on Day One. Being asked to bowl first, India rode on Mohammed Siraj's 6 for 15 to dismiss Dean Elgar-led Proteas for a mere 55 in 23.4 overs. Later in the day, India were bundled out for 153, managing a vital 98-run lead in the low-scoring contest. The day's play ended with the home side reeling at 62 for 3.

Despite Aiden Markram's sublime 106, SA were dismissed 176 on Day Two, courtesy of Jasprit Bumrah's six-fer. Chasing 79, India got to the target with seven wickets to spare.

SA vs Ind: Cape Town Test scripts WORLD RECORD after India's inspiring win

Day One of the second and final Test between India and South Africa, at Newlands, Cape Town, saw as many as 23 wickets falling on Wednesday (Jan 3). The opening day of the New Year's Test saw Mohammed Siraj wreak havoc as his 6 for 15 dismissed the Proteas for 55. In reply, India were out for 153, managing a 98-run lead, before the Proteas ended the day's play at 62 for 3.

With wickets falling left, right and centre, former Indian opener Sunil Gavaskar&nbsp;had no complaints about the Newlands track. He, however, took a shot at the SENA media (South Africa England New Zealand Australia media) and pointed out&nbsp;how they raise questions when so many wickets fall in a day in the subcontinent.&nbsp;

<h2>'If you cannot play on pitches where the ball turns into the batter, you're not a batter'</h2>

Speaking on Star Sports, Gavaskar said, "This is what Test cricket is all about. You are going to be tested. And I honestly believe I've always believed that if you cannot play on pitches where the ball turns into the batter, you know there is a tendency amongst the SENA country's media, particularly if you think that you know, if you can't play on fast, bouncy pitches, you're not a batter."

"I'm sorry. You are not a batter if you can't play the turning pitch because over here for the bouncy pitch, there are two movements here. There for four spinners, where the ball is turning, you've got to go down the pitch. You've got to use the crease. All the shots can be exhibited."

Gavaskar even questioned the Indian media's working style and why they won't criticise the batting ability of overseas players. He said, "So that's you know what? I think, sadly, you know, our media should be actually writing about this. You know, our media should be talking about the fact that you know, but our media is so dependent sometimes not all the time on getting interviews with players, so they do not want to upset anybody."

He added, "So they will not question the batting ability of some of the overseas guys because of that. But that's the way."

Talking about Day Two of the Cape Town Test, India have already accounted for four wickets in the opening session but SA are now on the lead, beyond 60, with Aiden Markram being the lone warrior for his side (being unbeaten on 102 at the time of publishing this report).

'You're not a batter if you can't...': Sunil Gavaskar rips apart SENA media after Day 1 of Cape Town Test

Mohammed Siraj wreaked havoc with the ball as his 6 for 15 propelled India to a strong position at stumps on Day One of the second and final Test versus South Africa, in Cape Town on Wednesday (Jan 3). Being asked to bowl first, Rohit Sharma-led India rode on Siraj's six-fer to dismiss SA for a paltry 55 (their lowest score versus India in Tests and lowest-ever by any side against the same opposition in the format).

After SA's 55, India only managed 153 in reply to take a 98-run lead. The day's play ended with hosts 62 for 3, trailing by 36 runs. Thus, India ended on top courtesy of Siraj's six-fer. Post stumps, Siraj spoke to India's bowling coach Paras&nbsp;Mhambrey in a video released on BCCI's official website. In the video, he revealed that it didn't look like a 55 all-out pitch to him early in the morning.

Siraj said, "When I saw the wicket in morning, it didn't feel it was a 55-all out wicket. It was quite sunny, so I didn't expect the pitch to assist that much. Also, bowling is all about partnerships. There was consistent pressure from Jasprit Bumrah at the other end. He didn't get many wickets but he created a lot of pressure."

Siraj further opined that&nbsp;bowlers should not look to overwork themselves on such surfaces and if one tries&nbsp;many things, it could end up confusing them and being unfruitful.&nbsp;

He added, "On these wickets, where ball is doing so much, often bowlers tend to think, ‘let me try and bowl an outswinger darting from leg to off or get one to bend back from angle but one should just stick to one line. If you hit areas, wickets will come automatically. If you try many things, you can get confused."

India, on Day Two (Thursday), will look to wrap up SA's second innings as soon as possible as any target over 100 can turn out to be challenging. The hosts lead the two-match series 1-0.

Post stumps, Siraj spoke to India's bowling coach Paras Mhambrey in a video released on BCCI's official website. He didn't get many wickets but he created a lot of pressure." He added, "On these wickets, where ball is doing so much, often bowlers tend to think, ‘let me try and bowl an outswinger darting from leg to off or get one to bend back from angle but one should just stick to one line. If you hit areas, wickets will come automatically. If you try many things, you can get confused." India, on Day Two (Thursday), will look to wrap up SA's second innings as soon as possible as any target over 100 can turn out to be challenging. The hosts lead the two-match series 1-0.

'Didn't feel like a 55 all-out wicket': Mohammed Siraj after his 6 for 15 on Day 1 of Cape Town Test

Day One of the second and final Test between India and South Africa, at Newlands Cape Town, saw as many as 23 wickets falling on Wednesday (Jan 3). Opting to bat first, the Dean Elgar-led Proteas were dismissed for a paltry 55, lowest total by any team against India in the format, courtesy of&nbsp;Mohammed Siraj's 6 for 15. After the tea break, India were 153 for 4 before the SA pacers -- Lungi Ngidi (3 for 30), Kagiso Rabada (3 for 30) and Nandre Burger (3 for 42) -- combined to dismiss them at the&nbsp;same score.

Despite a 98-run lead, India weren't too ahead when Proteas came out to bat in the final session. At stumps, the hosts are 62 for 3 with debutant Mukesh Kumar striking twice. Thus, Rohit Sharma &amp; Co., despite an ordinary performance with the bat, are ahead with a slender lead of 36. From SA's perspective, they have opener Aiden Markram (36 not out) in the middle, who&nbsp;will hope to take his side beyond India's lead and setup&nbsp;a stiff target. Needless to say, batting won't be easy on the second day as well.

Former India player Sunil Gavaskar has highlighted a key flaw in Shubman Gill’s batting approach as India prepare for the second Test match against South Africa in Cape Town. Gill, a key member of the Indian side in 2023 has found it tough to adjust to the South African conditions as Rohit Sharma's men trail 1-0 in the Test series. According to Gavaskar, Gill’s aggressive approach is not helping him and needs to stay calm in the red-ball format.

<h2>Gavsakar highlights key factor</h2>

"I think he is playing a bit too aggressively in Test cricket. There is a slight difference when you play Test cricket when compared to T20I and ODI cricket. The difference is in the ball. The red ball moves a little more than the white ball in the air and off the pitch as well. It bounces a little more too. He should keep that in mind," Gavaskar told Star Sports.

"Shubman Gill started off his career so well and we praised his shots. We can only hope that he gets back into his form. Hope he trains harder and does well in the future,” the former World Cup winner added.

His lackluster form continued in the Centurion Test when he got out for 2 and 26 as India were crushed to an embarrassing defeat by the Proteas. Rohit Sharma’s men lost by an innings and 32 runs as their dream of winning a Test series on South African soil evaporated.

The teams will next meet on Wednesday (Jan 4) as India try to end the tour on a high in Cape Town. South Africa currently lead the two-match series 1-0 and can pocket the series with a draw. India on the other hand will have to win to level the series.

Coetzee ruled out of second Test&nbsp;

South Africa have been dealt a huge blow ahead of&nbsp;the second Test match against India as star bowler Gerald Coetzee was ruled out due to pelvic inflammation. The second Test set to start on Wednesday (January 3) in Cape Town will see the Proteas star sit on the sidelines as they lead the series 1-0.

The injury also puts doubts on his involvement in the SA20 scheduled to begin on January 10. He was recently bought by Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League auctions for $600, 000.

Cricket South Africa on the flip side have opted not to name a replacement with Lungi Ngidi and Wiaan Mulder as fast-bowling options already present in the squad. Keshav Maharaj is another player who can replace the speedster if the Proteas decide to go with a spin option.

<h2>Blow for South Africa</h2>

Bowling on Day 3 of the Centurion Test, Coetzee aggravated his pelvic inflammation which saw him pass unfit for the Cape Town Test. He bowled only five overs during the Indian second innings with Nandre Burger and Kagiso Rabada doing the majority bowling shift. His only wickets in the match came in the first innings when he scalped Mohammed Siraj for 5. He will now look to gain his fitness ahead of the New Zealand tour which starts in February.

<h2>What happened in the first match?</h2>

After securing a 163-run lead in their first innings, India were called into bat on Day 3 of the Centurion Test needing a good start. However, those plans were dented as the visitors lost the quick-fire wickets of Rohit Sharma (0) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (5). This was Rohit’s fifth Test duck as he suffers from a poor run of form. The visitors were 13/2 before Shubman Gill (26) and Virat Kohli (76) tried to stitch up a partnership.

Later, Gill and Shreyas Iyer were scalped by Marco Jansen as India were 72/4 with KL Rahul and Kohli batting. With wickets falling at regular intervals, Kohli changed gears and tried to get his hundred, however, his wicket in the 35th over brought curtains down to the innings as India lost by an innings and 32 runs. Apart from Virat, only Gill got into double figures for India as they now switch attention to the second Test in Cape Town.

SA vs IND, 2nd Test: Gerald Coetzee ruled out of Cape Town contest with pelvic inflammation

India skipper Rohit Sharma has defended the bowlers after the humiliating defeat in the Boxing Day Test against South Africa in Centurion. The game lasted just three days, with India losing by an innings and 32 runs. Sharma, speaking at the post-match presentation, said that the bowlers did try their best but it just didn't work.

"Bumrah bowled well," Rohit said. "We all know his quality. All he wanted was a bit of support from the other side, which he didn't get. To be honest, that happens (once in a while).

"All the other three bowlers, they were trying really hard, bending their back, but it just didn't work out. Didn't happen the way we would have wanted to. But again, games like this teach you a lot of things, what you need to do as a group, as a bowling group. Hopefully, they can understand what went wrong, and then try and come back a little stronger from this game," he added.

India batted decently in the first innings, scoring 245 runs in tricky conditions, thanks largely to KL Rahul's eighth Test century. The bowlers, however, couldn't capitalise despite the conditions being friendly. While Bumrah and Siraj largely looked unplayable, they couldn't draw many edges and the pressure couldn't be built from the other side - especially by Prasidh Krishna.

Rohit, nonetheless, defended Krishna who made his debut for India in the whites but agreed that the inexperience was there.

"Look, a little bit inexperience, of course, but he has got the tools to come out here and play the game," the skipper said.&nbsp;

"Prasidh has been with the Indian team. Not around the Test team, but he has played a lot of white-ball cricket for us in the last two or three years, and he has shown that he has got a lot of potential. Obviously, it didn't work out well for him playing his first game, but we all were nervous when we played our first game," he added.
