"When MS and Kedar were batting, I think they were trying to hit, but they were not able to because of the slowness of the pitch," said the Indian vice-captain.

"You've got to give credit to English team because they used the conditions really well. They used the longer boundary really well."

MS Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav were criticised for their lack of intent in the final five overs when the duo managed just 39 runs.

Congratulatory messages poured in for India&#39;s pace bowler Jhulan Goswami on Twitter, soon after her three-wicket haul against hosts England

England made 228 for seven against India after winning the toss.

The 34-year-old dismissals included batsman Sarah Taylor (45) and top-scorer Nat Sciver (51).

Mithali achieved the feat as India played hosts England at the ICC Women&rsquo;s World Cup, scoring 71 runs in Derby. Mithali&#39;s 50 - scored off 56 balls - is her seventh consecutive one, and helped her break the previous world record of six jointly held by three players, Lindsay Reeler, Charlotte Edwards and Ellyse Perry.

Mithali Raj, one of the Indian team&#39;s best batswomen, has broken many records during her 18-year international career.

She also holds the record for 47 fifties, the most by any international women&rsquo;s player.

Ravindra Jadeja ripped the heart out of England&#39;s batting order to bowl India to a thumping innings and 75-run victory in the fifth and final test on Tuesday.

The left-arm spinner claimed seven of the 10 English wickets that tumbled in the final two sessions as India completed an emphatic 4-0 series win.

The touring side needed to bat out the final day to secure a consolation draw and Alastair Cook and Keaton Jennings defended resolutely through the morning to boost their chances.

Cook did look ill at ease against spin and got a life on four when he lunged forward to edge Ravichandran Ashwin but the ball popped out of wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel&#39;s gloves.

Jennings played more confidently although was nearly caught by Lokesh Rahul at short leg off Amit Mishra when on 31.

Jadeja returned after lunch to turn the match on its head.

The all-rounder has haunted Cook since the tourists landed in India and he dismissed the England captain for the sixth time in the series by getting him caught at leg slip.

It was a poor shot from Cook who edged a leg-side delivery to Rahul to depart for 49.

Jennings followed up his debut century in the previous test in Mumbai with a fifty but offered a tame return catch to Jadeja after making 54.

For once, England&#39;s batting mainstay Joe Root let down his team.

The series win took India to 120 points in the ICC standings, 15 points ahead of second-placed Australia, while England&#39;s defeat saw them slip from second to fifth position.

Cricket: India finish year as top-ranked Test side

Karun Nair made an epic unbeaten triple century to power India to their highest ever innings total against a demoralised England in the fifth and final test on Monday.

Nair became the second Indian batsman to score a test triple hundred and his 303 not out helped the hosts post a massive 759 for seven before skipper Virat Kohli declared.

After conceding a 282-run first-innings lead, England finished on 12 for no loss, needing to bat out the final day to save the match and prevent a 4-0 series loss.

Skipper Alastair Cook was unbeaten on three at the close with Keaton Jennings on nine after a difficult day in the field for the touring side.

Nair struck his 32nd four off Adil Rashid to bring up his triple century before raising his bat in celebration as his coach Anil Kumble, a keen photographer, captured the moment on camera.

Nair was at the other end when Lokesh Rahul, his partner in a 161-run fourth-wicket stand, fell agonisingly short of his double century on Sunday by playing a rash shot when one run away from the milestone.

Playing only his third test, Nair brought up his maiden century in the morning session, turned it into a double after tea and accelerated to reach the 300-mark in an innings which also included four sixes.

Resuming on 391 for four, India lost Murali Vijay for 29 but Nair and Ravichandran Aswin added 181 runs for the fifth wicket to put the hosts firmly in command.

Batting down the order following a shoulder injury, Vijay became debutant Liam Dawson&#39;s first test victim when the left-arm spinner trapped him lbw.

Nair&nbsp;dropped on 34 by Cook, enjoyed another slice of luck when he hung out his bat trying to leave a Stuart Broad delivery, the deflection running past slip to the boundary.

Ben Stokes bowled with hostility, generating reverse swing from an otherwise flat track, and nearly had Nair caught at mid-off with another short delivery.

Nair was on 217 when Joe Root dropped him at slip off Jake Ball and the batsman also survived a stumping opportunity.

Ashwin hit a six off Moeen Ali and registered his 10th test fifty before he fell for 67 to a brilliant diving catch by Jos Buttler off Broad.

India beat England in 4th test, take 3-0 lead in 5-match series

India captain Virat Kohli maintained his red-hot form as he and Murali Vijay struck fine centuries to help the hosts overtake England on day three of the fourth test at the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday.

Jonny Bairstow said England had a &quot;scrappy&quot; opening day after his half-century remained the only bright spot for the visitors who faltered against a persistent Indian bowling attack in Mohali on Saturday.

Jonny Bairstow said England had a "scrappy" opening day after his half-century remained the only bright spot for the visitors who faltered against a persistent Indian bowling attack in Mohali on Saturday. Vizag, 2nd Test: India stay on top after England skipper Cook's dismissal

Ravichandran Ashwin on Friday said he has a &quot;psychological advantage&quot; over England after his all-round showing put India on top in the second Test as the visitors struggled against spin on day two in Visakhapatnam on Friday.

England were reeling at 103 for five at stumps in response to India&#39;s first innings score of 455. The visitors still trail by 352 runs.

Ashwin, who scored a gritty half-century to propel the Indian score after skipper Virat Kohli&#39;s 167, claimed two wickets in the final session to rattle the English top-order.

Currently ranked the world&#39;s top Test bowler, Ashwin underlined his prowess with the bat by averaging over 60 when England last toured India in 2012.

&quot;And generally I mean there are attacks where you feel confident out there,&quot; Ashwin, who has recorded eight fifties and four hundreds in 41 Tests, told reporters. Ever since England toured here last time, I have been batting well... so that`s a psychological advantage you carry into a game when I play against them,&quot; he said.

Pace spearhead Mohammed Shami gave India an early breakthrough after shattering skipper Alastair Cook`s off stump as England began their first innings reply before tea.

Shami bowled an inspired first spell with the new ball as he cleaned up Cook for two in the third over of the innings.

Shami`s sensational delivery pitched on a good length before moving in a shade to hit the top of Cook`s off stump and break it in two, leaving England 4-1.
