Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar has slammed the Indore pitch for failing to provide a fair contest between bat and ball. After the ICC on Friday rated the surface used for the third Test between India and Australia as poor for the similar reasons mentioned above, Gavaskar tore into the thought process behind asking for such pitches for a Test match.

"I think there has to be a little more thought on that. This pitch has backfired in 2012-13 when Graeme Swann and Monty Panesar spun England to a win. I don’t think it’s a great idea to have pitches of this quality," Gavaskar told India Today after the end of the third Test in Indore.

Gavaskar, who was the first Indian batter to complete 10,000 Tests runs having faced some of the greatest bowlers the game has seen, suggested that the ideal surface for a Test match must be good for batting and bowling on the first two days, and then from day three onwards it should be assisting the spinners – not like how it was here in Indore where it was turning square from the ball one.

Further expressing his concerns on what kind of pitch will be on offer in the final Test that begins on March 9th, Gavaskar said,

As a result, the Indore pitch will receive three demerit points while the BCCI will have a two-week window to appeal against the sanction. Having successfully conducted the Women’s T20 World Cup in South Africa that for the first time in history had all female umpires officiating in it, cricket’s governing body has now decided to include women officials into the panel of umpires, which only has men in it so far.

As reported by the Times of India (TOI), a source close to the information in the ICC has informed that the first motive is to get the women umpires to officiate in some men’s bilateral series games.

“The idea is to make umpiring a gender-neutral opportunity in cricket. The first objective is to get women to officiate in a few of the men’s bilateral matches. The purpose is for the Elite panel to have both men and women on it, also supported by opportunities being provided for members in their home matches,” an ICC source told TOI.

Commenting on the same, the source said bringing in more female umpires into cricket was always a key part of the motive mentioned above.

“A big part in the global growth strategy is for the increased coverage of female match officials. There is an outline of that plan with commitments and aims to help develop this area. This includes consultation with members, redeveloping the selection criteria process, getting more female match officials and high-quality umpires,” the source added.

As further reported by the TOI, this plan will likely be discussed in the upcoming ICC cricket committee meeting; and considering it’s still in the early stages, the board wants to execute it in four months.&nbsp;

The committee that comprises of some of the biggest names in cricket including Kumar Sangakkara, Sourav Ganguly, Justin Langer, Alastair Cook alongside chairman Mike Gatting, has urged this mode of dismissal to be accepted much like every other dismissal, saying the bowlers aren’t the villains here, and that the batter always has a choice to stay inside the crease until the ball is bowled.

After this certain mode of dismissal picked up a lot of heat lately following an incident in the Big Bash League (BBL) where Adam Zampa attempted to run-out non-striker Tom Rogers, the committee has called for calmness over ‘Mankad’ during their latest ICC meet in Dubai last week.&nbsp;The custodians of the laws of the game, the WCC of the MCC, has cleared it once and for all saying ‘Mankad’ is within&nbsp;the law books. It further claimed that the bowler is under no obligation to give a warning to the batter if he or she is out of the crease before the bowl is being bowled and that they can run the batter out in that case.

Whereas, on the other hand, chairman Mike Gatting also said the batters must learn their responsibilities under the as quickly as possible so that they don’t make such mistakes again.

"Whilst attempts may increase in the short term, we would expect batters to learn their responsibilities under the laws very quickly and drive it out of prominence,” Gatting said.

"Our stance on this is simple – batters must not steal ground if they do not wish to be given out in this manner. Nor should they be expecting to be given a warning if they do. If all non-strikers only left the popping crease once the ball had been released, there would never be the need for such a dismissal again," the former English batter said.

Meanwhile, the WCC's&nbsp;statement also cleared the air around if the batter is wrong in his/her attempt to leave the crease in a hurry or whatever, saying that yes, it will be termed as the batter’s fault if they do so and get run-out, instead of the bowler facing unnecessary wrath for the same.

"The overriding factor is that there is a simple way that all confusion and controversy around this form of dismissal can be eradicated - by non-strikers complying with the law and remaining within their ground until they have seen the ball being released from the bowler's hand," the MCC said in a statement.

"Part of the discussion in Dubai touched on the growing narrative for the bowler to be vilified for this type of dismissal. The committee members were unanimous in their view that the batter stealing ground is the one breaking the laws of the game and therefore deserving of recrimination.

Jadeja also got one demerit point added to his disciplinary record for his first offence in 24 months. The cricket's governing body didn't conduct a formal hearing&nbsp;as Jadeja accepted the offence and the fines imposed by match referee Andy Pycroft. As per the rankings, Australia is on the top of the chart with a PCT of 75.56 while India is second (58.93%), Sri Lanka is ranked third (53.33%) and&nbsp;South Africa with 48.72% is fourth on the list.

As Australia and India are favourites to qualify for the finals for&nbsp;the 2023 World Test Championship, ahead of their marquee Border-Gavaskar series that begins on February 9th in Nagpur, captains from both teams spoke about the impact and relevance of this newly-added ICC title.&nbsp;

In first of its kind move, the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Friday announced an all-13-member female panel of match officials for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, slated for next month in South Africa. Of all the officials, the Indian trio of GS Lakshmi, Vrinda Rathi, and Janani Narayanan are also included. With the surge in the number of female officials in cricket across formats at different stages including at the Under-19, domestic, and the senior level, the implementation of this idea was just a step away. The announcement of the 13-member panel that includes three match referees and ten umpires is also part of ICC's strategic ambition of advancing the involvement and visibility of women in cricket.

Commenting on this historic step taken by the cricket's governing body, ICC’s General Manager Wasim Khan said considering the incredible rise of women’s cricket, this step was always around the corner. He added the body was keen on expanding women’s roles in each department in the game, and with the introduction of this step, they feel they have ticked the right box.

"Women's cricket has been growing rapidly in recent years and as part of that, we have been building the pathways to ensure more women have the opportunity to officiate at the highest level.

“This announcement is a reflection of our intent in this space and just the start of our journey where men and women enjoy the same opportunities across our sport. We are committed to continuing to support our female match officials and provide opportunities to showcase their talents on the global stage," Wasim Khan said.

During the 2020 Women’s T20 World Cup and the 50-over Women’s World Cup last year, eight women officials took part, whereas, in the ongoing Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup, the number increased to nine.

While the 34-year-old Claire Polosak will be the most experienced umpire at the tournament – officiating in her fourth World Cup, England’s Sue Redfern, West Indies’ Jacqueline Williams, and Kim Cotton of New Zealand will be involved in their third Women's T20 World Cups. On the other hand, England’s 24-year-old Anna Haris will be the youngest female to officiate in her first major cricket tournament.

International Cricket Council (ICC) has become the latest victim of online fraud. The global cricket body has been duped of over $2.5 million after fraudsters used deception and forgery to trick the ICC officials at its Dubai headquartered office.&nbsp;According to a Cricbuzz report, the ICC became a victim of a phishing attack wherein the scammer created a fake email id, pretending to be an ICC consultant.&nbsp;

A voucher was then sent to the finance department of ICC. The requisite money, $500,000 in one instance was cleared and sent into the scammers' account. Such was the sophistication of the entire process that ICC fell prey to the scam&nbsp;multiple times.&nbsp;

According to reports, ICC's&nbsp;Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and the entire finance department in Dubai is under heavy scrutiny. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) may be involved in the case as the phishing source is based in the US.&nbsp;

While the Rashid Khan-starrer Afghanistan has made giant strides as a national side over the years, it remains the only ICC full-member nation without a women's team. Recently, ICC CEO Geoff Allardice also&nbsp;reacted to Afghanistan women's&nbsp;lack of participation due to the Taliban stance. He pointed out that their absence is “concerning”, and confirmed that the&nbsp;issue would be up for discussion&nbsp;at its next meeting.

"Our board has been monitoring progress since the change of regime,” Mr Allardice said in a&nbsp;statement. “It is a concern that progress is not being made in Afghanistan and it's something our board will consider at its next meeting in March. As far as we are aware, there isn't activity at the moment," he added.

Speaking to legendary Sir Ian Botham on BBC, Stokes said cricket scheduling isn’t getting the right attention that it should by quoting an example of England’s ODI series against Australia, which was scheduled right after the T20 World Cup in October this year.

”The scheduling doesn’t get enough attention that it should. A great example is England’s one-day series against Australia after the T20 World Cup. That was shoving three games in there. It made sense to someone to schedule a series which meant nothing,” Stokes told Botham on BBC.

”Test cricket has been spoken about in a way I don’t like. It is losing the attention of the fans with all the new formats and franchise competitions. We understand there are so many opportunities for players away from Test cricket. But for me it is so important for the game,” Stokes added.

Since Stokes took over the reins from Joe Root in Tests and with the addition of Brendon McCullum as the head coach, England seemed to have revamped the way the five-day format is now played or will be played in future. Introduction of ‘Bazball’ cricket has taken the cricket world by storm. Backing this attacking and result-oriented brand of cricket, Stokes said teams must now look to play for a result – that to him could work well in prolonging this format.

”Taking the result away from the mindset is a great starting point. Putting focus on making every day entertaining. Not allowing people to know what is going to happen. The first-ever women's Under-19 World Cup will be played in Benoni from 14th to 29th January next year.

The teams will be divided into groups of four as follows:

Group A: Australia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and the USA

Group B: England, Pakistan, Rwanda and Zimbabwe

Group C: Indonesia, Ireland, New Zealand and the West Indies

Group D: India, Scotland, South Africa and the UAE

Alongside Varma, Richa Ghosh will also be joining the U19 squad having made her senior debut against Australia in 2020.&nbsp; Ghosh is 19 years old but she made the list for being born after the&nbsp;cut-off date of birth of August 31, 2003.

The BCCI in a press release announced the squad for the World Cup as well as the South Africa series. The World Cup will commence on January 14 next year and will feature 16 teams.&nbsp;

Afridi made a controversial statement during a debate on Pakistan's Saama TV post the game as India's victory against Bangladesh all but confirmed Pakistan's exit from the tournament. The former Pakistan skipper accused the ICC of being biased towards India and said the international body wants Rohit Sharma &amp; Co. to reach the semi-finals at any cost.

Overall, the fight shown by Bangladesh was brilliant," he added.

Afridi's comments didn't go down well with BCCI president Binny, who hit back at the former Pakistan cricketer and said BCCI gets nothing different compared to other teams when playing a global tournament. He insisted India is a powerhouse in cricket but made it clear there is no favouritism from ICC.
