Following the deaths of seven more patients, the number of fatalities at a government hospital in the Nanded district of Maharashtra has risen to 31. There were sixteen adult and fifteen pediatric patients that passed away at the hospital.

Dr Shyamrao Wakode, dean in-charge of the Medical College claimed that the deceased were suffering from various ailments including snake bites, arsenic and phosphorus poisoning.

"Around 12 children died in the last 24 hours...12 adults also died due to various ailments (snake bites, arsenic and phosphorus poisoning etc.). Due to transfers of various staff, there was some difficulty for us...We were supposed to buy medicines from the Haffkine Institute but that also didn't happen....Also, patients come from far off to this hospital and there were many patients whose sanctioned budget also got disturbed..." he said.

Former Maharashtra chief minister Ashok Chavan, who hails from Nanded, said that besides these deaths, another 70 patients who were referred to the hospital from other private hospitals in Nanded district are 'critical'.

"Around 24 people's death has been reported at the Dr Shankarrao Chavan Medical College and Hospital and therefore I have come here and met the Dean. The situation is concerning and serious. The government should take this up and provide immediate help...Around 70 other people are critical. Replacement of a lot of nurses who were transferred has not been given,” Chavan told ANI news agency.

Later, he wrote on X, "Death toll continues in Nanded. 7 more patients unfortunately died in Government Medical College Hospital since yesterday. 4 children are also included in the dead. The state government should determine the responsibility."&nbsp;

The senior leader from Indian National Congress also said that all required help and resources should be given because the situation is ‘concerning’.&nbsp;

The remaining deaths are of adults for various reasons," Dr Dilip Mhaisekar, Director, Medical Education and Research, Maharashtra, told PTI.

"A three-member expert committee from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (formerly Aurangabad) district has been formed with a mandate to submit a report by 1pm on Tuesday. I am personally visiting the hospital to review the situation," he informed.

According to the FIR (first information report), the patient came to the hospital at around 01:00 pm for treatment. After a few minutes, the patient approached the doctor and asked him to remove the cannula from his arm. When the doctor asked him to seek a nurse's help, the patient became violent and started abusing him. Then, the patient took a screwdriver-like object and threatened to kill the doctor. The doctor suffered injuries on two fingers of his right hand. The FIR does not mention the patient's name. Cases of violence against doctors have been on the rise in India's national capital Delhi. Delhi's Sir Ganga Ram Hospital witnessed a similar turn of events in July when a 21-year-old patient, upset with his medical condition, attacked a doctor with a knife. Dr Satnam Chhabra, the neurosurgery department chairman, sustained minor injuries in the attack. He had been treating the patient, Rajkumar, who showed less improvement despite undergoing a surgery two years ago. Later, the hospital staff handed Rajkumar to the police. A woman in New Zealand who suffered chronic pain for over a year after undergoing a caesarean section was found to have a surgical instrument the size of a dinner plate left inside her abdomen. The incident has since resulted in a scathing report by the country’s health watchdog following an investigation.&nbsp;

The report by New Zealand’s Health and Disability Commissioner Morag McDowell was published on Monday (September 4), with this being the second case of the same surgical tool being left in a patient’s body in just two years.&nbsp;

<h2>‘A never event’</h2>

An Alexis wound retractor, or AWR, was left inside the patient, a woman in her 20s, who had undergone a scheduled C-section at an Auckland city hospital in 2020.&nbsp;

McDowell’s report came after the initial investigation conducted by Te Whatu Ora Auckland claimed it had not failed to “exercise reasonable skill and care” towards the patient and claimed that her findings were influenced by “hindsight and outcome bias”.&nbsp;

However, McDowell found that the Te Whatu Ora Auckland is in breach of the code of patient rights. “There is substantial precedent to infer that when a foreign object is left inside a patient during an operation, the care fell below the appropriate standard,” she stated in the report. “It is a ‘never’ event”.&nbsp;

An AWR, a device used to draw back the edges of a wound during surgery, was left in her abdomen following her C-section, said the report. One of the nurses present during the operation told the commission that a count of all surgical instruments used in the procedure did not include the AWR.&nbsp;

But this could be because the AWR doesn’t go into the wound completely, unlike other tools, said the nurse. It was also found that a ‘large’ AWR was used during surgery but the surgeon found the tool insufficient and replaced it with an ‘extra-large’ AWR.&nbsp;

While the surgical instrument is typically removed after the incision is closed and the skin sutured, in this case, it was forgotten.&nbsp;

An extra large AWR described as “about the size of a dinner plate,” is designed to retract incisions up to 17 centimetres in diameter. The tool was removed from the patient’s abdomen, in 2021, around 18 months after the initial procedure after multiple appointments with her doctor.

Reportedly, on one occasion, the pain was so severe that she visited the emergency department at the hospital. The tool was only discovered after the patient underwent an abdominal CT scan since it was invisible to an X-ray.&nbsp;

<h2>‘Serious deviation’</h2>

McDowell acknowledged that the theatre staff involved was genuinely concerned and apologetic after listening to what the woman had gone through, but her scathing report was directed at Te Whatu Ora’s claims.

“Te Whatu Ora pointed to a lack of expert evidence to support the conclusion that [the code] had been breached and referenced known error rates,” McDowell wrote.&nbsp;

While she accepted that Te Whatu Ora was not aware of the risk an AWR could pose when surgically retained, McDowell had “little difficulty concluding that the retention of a surgical instrument in a person’s body falls well below the expected standard of care.”

“I do not consider it necessary to have specific expert advice to assist me in reaching that conclusion,” said McDowell calling the breach a “serious deviation” from the standard of care.&nbsp;

New Zealand: Surgical tool ‘size of dinner plate’ left in woman’s body after operation

A British nurse named Lucy Letby has been found guilty of the murder of seven newborns and the attempted murders of six others by the Manchester Crown Court on Friday (August 18), &nbsp;said the local police department. The verdict brings an end to the years-long case which has haunted England since the string of deaths in the neonatal unit where the nurse worked, first came to light nearly seven years ago.&nbsp;

<h2>What was she found guilty of?</h2>

Letby, 33, has been convicted of killing five baby boys and two baby girls at the Countess of Chester hospital, where she often worked night shifts, in 2015 and 2016. She was also found guilty of attacking six other newborns in the neonatal unit.&nbsp;

During the trial, the jury was told that Letby poisoned some of her infant victims by injecting them with insulin and others were injected with air or force-fed milk, sometimes involving multiple attacks before they died. However, she has denied those accusations.&nbsp;

The 33-year-old faced a total of 22 charges. However, Letby was found not guilty of two counts of attempted murder.&nbsp;The jury also could not reach a decision&nbsp;on six charges of attempted murder.

The verdict, following a 10-month trial at Manchester Crown Court, makes Letby one of Britain’s most prolific serial child killers. Notably, it was also the longest murder trial in British legal history. Jurors reportedly deliberated for 110 hours and 26 minutes.&nbsp;

It was also found that Letby, who was first charged in 2020, also attacked twins – in one case she murdered both siblings. Additionally, she also tried to kill one baby girl three times before finally succeeding on the fourth attempt.

“Lucy Letby was entrusted to protect some of the most vulnerable babies. Little did those working alongside her know that there was a murderer in their midst,” said Pascale Jones, a senior prosecutor from the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).

He added, “She did her utmost to conceal her crimes, by varying the ways in which she repeatedly harmed babies in her care.” Letby was arrested in 2018 and 2019 in relation to the investigation, but not charged until after a criminal investigation by the Cheshire police.&nbsp;

<h2>Years-long investigation</h2>

The CPS argues she secretly attacked 13 babies in the neonatal ward of the hospital and her intention was to kill the babies while making her colleagues believe that the deaths occurred due to natural causes.&nbsp;

Letby’s actions first came to light after senior doctors became concerned about the rise in the number of unexplained deaths and collapses at the neonatal unit – where premature or sick babies are treated – over the course of 18 months starting in January 2015.&nbsp;

This prompted the hospital to begin an investigation in 2016. An independent review published in 2017, found no definitive explanation. However, the report did note significant gaps in staffing, poor decision-making in the unit and an insufficient number of senior staff members.

Since the doctors were unable to find a medical reason, the police were called in and after a lengthy investigation, it was found that Letby had been involved in the care of the babies.&nbsp;

During the trial, prosecutor Nick Johnson, called her a “constant malevolent presence when things took a turn for the worse.”&nbsp;

It was also found that one of the victim’s mothers walked in on her attacking her twin babies and Letby told her, “Trust me, I’m a nurse.”&nbsp;

The police also found paperwork and medical notes with references to the babies she murdered. She also carried out social media searches for the parents and families of the murdered babies.

<h2>‘I am evil, I did it’ note&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;</h2>

During a search operation of her house, police found a handwritten note with the message ‘I AM EVIL, I DID THIS’.

When asked about this by defence barrister Ben Meyers KC, Letby reasoned, “because I felt at the time I had done something wrong and I thought I’m such an awful, evil person…that I had made mistakes and not known.”

The nurse said she thought “that somehow I had been incompetent and I had done something wrong to affect these babies. I felt I must be responsible in some way.”&nbsp;

The prosecution has described her as a cold, cruel, calculating liar who had repeatedly changed her account of events. They also called for her notes to be treated as a confession.&nbsp;

However, detectives involved in the case, during the trial said that they could not find any motive for why she had become a killer and did not find anything unusual about her life.&nbsp;

“The only person that can answer that...is Lucy Letby herself,” said Detective Superintendent Paul Hughes who led the investigation.&nbsp;

<h2>Letby defends herself</h2>

The British nurse, over the course of the trial, repeatedly said she never tried to hurt the babies and wanted to care for them.

She also went on to blame the unsafe staffing levels on the ward and its dirty conditions which may have contributed to the babies’ death. Letby also claimed four doctors had conspired to blame her for the hospital’s failings and maintained her innocence.&nbsp;

“I have never murdered a child or harmed any of them,” said Letby.

<h2>Sentencing and further investigations</h2>

Letby will be sentenced on Monday (August 21) and is set to face a long prison term, and possibly a rare full life sentence.

The British police are still carrying out further investigations into Letby’s entire career as a nurse where she worked at the hospital as well as another one in Liverpool where she had trained, to find any other victims.&nbsp;

Hughes says police are reviewing all 4,000 admissions of babies into neonatal units at the two hospitals where Letby worked between 2012 and 2016. However, it does not mean they are “investigating all 4,000,” he added.&nbsp;

“It just means that we are committed to a thorough review of every admission from a medical perspective, to ensure that nothing is missed throughout the entirety of her employment as a nurse,” said the detective.&nbsp;

<h2>UK govt calls for investigation into case</h2>

The UK government has also called for an independent inquiry into the “circumstances behind the murders and attempted murders of babies” at the hospital to “ensure families get the answers they need”.&nbsp;

She also carried out social media searches for the parents and families of the murdered babies. ‘I am evil, I did it’ note During a search operation of her house, police found a handwritten note with the message ‘I AM EVIL, I DID THIS’. Sentencing and further investigations Letby will be sentenced on Monday (August 21) and is set to face a long prison term, and possibly a rare full life sentence. The British police are still carrying out further investigations into Letby’s entire career as a nurse where she worked at the hospital as well as another one in Liverpool where she had trained, to find any other victims. Hughes says police are reviewing all 4,000 admissions of babies into neonatal units at the two hospitals where Letby worked between 2012 and 2016. However, it does not mean they are “investigating all 4,000,” he added. “It just means that we are committed to a thorough review of every admission from a medical perspective, to ensure that nothing is missed throughout the entirety of her employment as a nurse,” said the detective. A hospital in Spain completed the first robotic lung transplant through a 'small incision.' Albert Jauregui, the head of the Lung Transplant Service of Vall d'Hebron Hospital in Barcelona, conveyed the details about the pioneering procedure in a press briefing on Monday, April 17, 2023. Reuters reported that the technique includes a robot and a new access route that no longer needs to cut through the bone.

The surgeons used a robot named 'Da Vinci' with four arms to cut a small section of the patient's skin, fat and muscle to remove the damaged lung. Then, the machine inserts a new one through an eight-centimetre incision below the sternum, above the diaphragm.

However, they made slim cuts to the side of the rib cage to adjust the robot arms and 3D cameras. "It's a part of the body that has the advantage of having a very elastic skin, which gives room to widen the opening without having to touch a single rib," Jauregui said.

Generally, lung transplants are 'aggressive' surgeries as they require a 30-centimetre incision in the chest, breaking the ribs to reach the organs. However, according to Jauregui, they replaced the organ "with a small incision below the sternum without breaking the ribs" using the new technique. Even though several hospitals routinely use smaller incisions for lung transplants, this was the first time doctors limited the incision to soft tissues.&nbsp;

Albert Jauregui also added the new technique for lung transplants is less painful for the patient, and the wound heals relatively faster. "We believe it is a technique that will improve patients' life quality, the post-surgery period and reduce pain. We hope this technique will eventually spread to more centres," he told Reuters.&nbsp;

Surgeons at the Vall d'Hebron Hospital performed the new lung transplant technique on Xavier, a 65-year-old man suffering from pulmonary fibrosis. Xavier stated he benefited from the new procedure. Spanish hospital performs first successful robotic lung transplant

Pope Francis was in an unconscious state when he was suffering from bronchitis and was taken to the hospital two weeks ago, and he could have died, as per an Italian man who has been widely reported to have spoken with him regularly.

The Italian man claimed that he had last talked to the pontiff on Saturday. The 86-year-old pope was admitted to Gemelli Hospital on March 29 in Rome and was three days later discharged by the hospital. During the Easter celebration he led last week, the pope appeared in good health.

Michele Ferri, who belongs to the central Italian city of Pesaro, while speaking to Reuters said that the pope's health appeared better in their latest conversation compared to the last time when the two men spoke in January.

"I told him: you really gave us a fright!" said Ferri.

The Italian media widely quotes Ferri as someone who regularly speaks to the pope, since he was first called by Pope Francis to comfort him after his brother's death who had died in a robbery a decade ago.

It is known that the pope keeps a small list of people he contacts regularly, generally for giving them comfort after some tragedy.

The names of such people close to the Pope have never been confirmed by the Vatican but the institution does not deny that the Pope speaks to Ferri.

Pope said he could have died in hospital, claims Italian man

Nepal`s newly elected president Ramchandra Paudel has been admitted to a hospital after he complained of acute stomach pain, as per local media outlets.&nbsp;

He was taken to Tribhuwan University Teaching Hospital in Kathmandu's Maharajgunj on April 1 and his principal adviser Suresh Chalise confirmed that the president was to remain in the hospital overnight. While confirming that president experienced acute stomach ache, Chalise said, “Doctors are examining him and he will remain in the hospital tonight.”

Kathmandu Post&nbsp;reported that the hospital issued a statement saying, "He was admitted to the hospital late on Saturday, and is under observation."&nbsp;

The President's Secretariat also confirmed that Paudel complained of abdominal pain upon which he was taken to the hospital for medical supervision.&nbsp;

Ram Chandra Paudel, a senior member of the Nepali Congress, was sworn in as the country's president just two weeks ago replacing Bidya Devi Bhandari, whose term ended on March 12. According to the Nepalese Election Commission, Paudel received 33,802 electoral votes, while Subash Chandra Nembwang received 15,518.

A United Airlines flight 2664 cabin caught fire from a laptop battery, post which the Newark-bound plane was forced to land back in San Diego on Tuesday. Four people have been rushed to the hospital after the incident, as per officials quoted by media outlets.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Two others opted not to be transported," it added.&nbsp; According to Sabrina LoPiccolo, a spokeswoman for San Diego International Airport (SAN), emergency workers responded to the fire incident and are presently attending to passengers.

FlightAware data shows the Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft departed the airport at 7:07 a.m. Pacific Time and returned to San Diego at 7:51 a.m. CNN was informed by Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)&nbsp;official Ian Gregor that a laptop battery caused the fire. The FAA will look into it, Gregor said.

According to France’s Regional Health Agency (ARS), while the&nbsp;Andre-Mignot Hospital&nbsp;has suspended operations it is working to keep the walk-in services and consultations running.&nbsp;

<h2>What is Klebsiella bacteria?&nbsp;</h2>

In the intestines, Klebsiella, a family of bacterial species live harmlessly. However, if they spread to other parts of the body, they can be quite harmful. This deadly drug-resistant Klebsiella superbug rivals MRSA, an another type of bacterial infection. The most well-known species in this family is Klebsiella pneumoniae. This particular bacteria has the potential to cause pneumonia, infections in the bloodstream, meningitis and urinary tract infections.&nbsp;

<h2>Klebsiella bacteria threat?&nbsp;</h2>

Led by Professor Ed Feil from the Milner Centre for Evolution at the University of Bath, the researchers investigated the prevalence of this Klebsiella. This bacteria is highly antibiotic resistance. As per the University, some strains of this bacteria are even resistant to carbapenems, an antibiotic that is only used after all other antibiotic treatments fail. Increasingly, these Klebsiella bacteria is becoming a health issue in the United Kingdom. The WHO has identified this bacteria as a pathogen that poses a serious threat to patient safety.

Up until now it was not clear whether the bacteria is able to pass through between clinical and non-clinical environments that is between hospitals and farms. In the study the researchers team collected 6,548 samples over a 15 month period from different locations in and around the Italian city of Pavia. Pavia is the place where this pathogen is a major issue in hospitals. The researchers analysed the samples using whole genome sequencing techniques. It was done to detect and identify any Klebsiella bacteria present in the samples.

For this, the team took swab samples of the patients in hospitals. They also took swab samples of healthy ‘carriers’ in the community and took samples from farms, puddles, domestic animals and even house flies and other insects to detect where the bacteria was present. They discovered 3,482 isolates, including 15 distinct Klebsiella species, with K. pneumoniae present in 50% of the positive samples.

The researchers discovered that there was very little overlap between the bacteria found in hospitals and those found in the environment. Professor Ed Feil, who led the study, said Klebsiella infections are becoming increasingly resistant to antibiotics, so whereas one used to be able to treat most urinary tract infections easily, now it is more common that patients are getting infections that keep coming back and causing problems.

“We found it was present everywhere, but were surprised that the strains found in hospital were different to those found in the environment, indicating there’s very little transfer between the two habitats: humans nearly always catch this from other humans," he said.&nbsp;

“This confirms the best way to control infection for these bacteria remains stringent hospital hygiene, and that there is less chance that outbreaks may be caused by contact with animals or the environment than previously feared, at least in a high-resource country like Italy.”

Dr Harry Thorpe, from the University of Oslo (Norway) and first author of the paper, said the fear was that farmers might get these bacteria from their livestock or soil and that we could get infected by contaminated salad or get sick if we swim in lakes that are infected.

Jose Pablo Toloza Rondón, Hato's mayor said, “The children were passed out, at the time they were found they were short of breath and thick drool was coming out of their mouths.

“It is not ruled out that it was the Ouija board, that is part of the investigation. Others say that they consumed water from a container, others that they came from a pool and had been given something to eat," the Mayor added.&nbsp;

Later, when the children were asked about how their health started to get deteriote after playing the Ouija board game, the students said that they had drank water from the same glass.&nbsp;

Most of the children were treated at a health centre nearby while five of them were taken to the Manuela Beltrán Hospital. 
Doctors after running the diagnosis and giving the children treatment said in medical reports that the teenagers suffered from food poisoning.&nbsp;

Juan Pablo Vargas Noguera, emergency medical coordinator at Hospital del Socorro, said, “We did not find psychological alteration in the children, taking into account that it was said that it would have been from playing the Ouija board. The medical report says it was due to food poisoning.”

An acute nursing shortage is clogging or even closing hospital emergency rooms across Canada, pushing an already stressed national health system to the brink with potentially severe consequences for patient care.

Burnout from the Covid-19 pandemic, abuse from patients and salary discontent have seen nursing staff quitting their jobs in droves, and experts say the situation is only likely to worsen.

The impact on emergency care is such that Ottawa police recently had to take a shooting victim to hospital in their squad car, rather than wait for an ambulance, and an elderly woman who fell and broke her hip was forced to wait six hours for help from paramedics based 100 kilometers (62 miles) away.

Over the summer and into the fall, staffing shortages meant dozens of emergency rooms were forced to close -- sometimes for a night or a weekend, sometimes longer.

Wait times to see an ER doctor have soared to 12, 16, 20 hours -- or more.

"They're numb, deflated and feeling hopeless," said Cathryn Hoy, president of the Ontario Nurses' Association. Herself a nurse for 20 years, she described the situation as "critical."

Amelie Inard, 32, was taken to an ER in Montreal this week, in extreme pain and peeing blood.

The place was packed, and an overwrought nurse told her to describe her condition "in one sentence, really quickly, because of how busy they were," Inard said.

She eventually left in frustration, without seeing a doctor.

Hospital workloads are rising, Hoy said, along with patients' exasperation over extended wait times, leading to a spiking of violence against nurses.

Several nurses told AFP they had been punched, scratched or spat on, and had trays, dishes and feces thrown at them.

'Crazy conditions'

In the capital Ottawa, ambulances were unavailable on more than 1,000 occasions from January to July, as paramedics were stuck waiting to unload patients at crowded ERs.

A hospital in Peterborough, east of Toronto, in the past week was forced to treat patients on gurneys in the parking lot because its ER was full, said Hoy.

In Manitoba, doctor Merril Pauls said there had been "multiple times throughout the summer when we had to shut down beds in the emergency room" at Winnipeg's Health Sciences Centre because of the nursing shortage.&nbsp; 
 
On one recent Sunday, he said, "We had too many people coming in and had no place to put them. We literally were double-bunking critical patients in a resuscitation bay.

"Our nurses are really working in crazy conditions."

It's a "really significant phenomenon going on across the country," the doctor added, and it's "getting worse."

A recent survey by the Canadian Union of Public Employees, the country's largest labor union, found that 87 percent of nurses have considered leaving their job "because of the thankless and grueling working conditions."

"Even new graduates are quitting," Hoy said.

Federal health minister Jean-Yves Duclos has vowed to make it easier for foreign credentials to be recognized. That could help 11,000 internationally trained doctors and nurses get jobs in their field in Canada.

But that won't be nearly enough, with 34,400 nursing positions now vacant, according to government data.

Compounding the problem, many Canadians -- like Inard -- don't have a family doctor and turn to emergency rooms for care.

"It's just so difficult to find a family doctor," she said.

And a frequent shortage of regular hospital beds often means long waits to transfer patients out of ERs to wards.

Ontario passed a bill at the end of September permitting transfers of patients awaiting long-term care to facilities up to 150 kilometers away.&nbsp;

Provincial Health Minister Sylvia Jones said it would "ease pressures on crowded emergency departments."

But critics say it could force frail, elderly people into care homes far from their loved ones.

For now, almost everyone needing treatment is eventually seen. But delays can pose long-term consequences for patients' health.

"If a stroke patient doesn't get access to a clot-busting medicine fast, brain cells will die and the patient will end up being more disabled than they would have been," Pauls said.

Serious infections can be deadly if not treated in time. So, too, can cancers and other diseases, he added.

Pauls recalled routinely telling discharged patients "to come back if things get worse."

"But now they laugh at us. They say: 'You're crazy. There's no way I'm going to go through this again.'"

Sadguru Sri Madhusudan Sai, a well-known social and spiritual leader, opened the first phase of a 75-bed free super speciality hospital, Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Super Speciality Hospital, in Batticaloa, a region in the east of the island of Sri Lanka, which has endured years of civil war and has housed over 30,000 war widows, in order to support the Indian Government's efforts to provide humanitarian aid to Sri Lanka, which is bankrupt.

The island nation of <meta charset="utf-8" /><a href="https://www.wionews.com/south-asia/sri-lanka-president-on-the-run-rajapaksa-exits-singapore-for-thailand-505915">Sri Lanka</a>&nbsp;is struggling with an unprecedented economic crisis, unemployment, and inflation, which has severely weakened its healthcare system and caused a dreadful shortage of key medications, such as life-saving antibiotics and paediatric care.

Within the next few days, free paediatric heart care surgeries and interventions will be performed at the Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Super Speciality Hospital in Batticaloa to mark the beginning of its operations.

With the assistance of its international partners in 33 nations, the hospital is prepared to expand in stages to carry out various healthcare missions across specialties. Even during the COVID era, the medical centre provided hot, wholesome cooked food in the nearby villages to meet the nutritional needs of the poor.

The facility was recognised by the Sri Lankan Healthcare Fraternity as being able to close the gap in paediatric cardiac treatment in Sri Lanka, where 3,000 kids are born with congenital heart disease each year.

Following the opening of the Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Children's Heart Facility in Suva, Fiji, on April 27, 2022, by the Honourable Prime Minister of Fiji, Mr. Josaia Voreqe Bainimarama, this hospital in Sri Lanka is the second in a short period of time—roughly three months.

Through the Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Global Heart Care Centers, many young hearts in Sri Lanka are prepared to be welcomed with love and compassion in order to advance the cause of the "Right to Healthy Childhood" by building a holistic ecosystem that will lessen the burden of congenital heart disease worldwide.

The island nation of Sri Lanka is struggling with an unprecedented economic crisis, unemployment, and inflation, which has severely weakened its healthcare system and caused a dreadful shortage of key medications, such as life-saving antibiotics and paediatric care. Through its member-foundation in Sri Lanka, the Sri Sathya Sai Karuna Nilayam Foundation, which was founded in 2016, the Sai Global Federation of Foundations, chaired by Sadguru Sri Madhusudan Sai, has offered assistance at this time of need. The Foundation's Sri Sathya Sai Karunalayam Medical Center, which opened in 2017, has provided care to more than 16,000 rural patients to date. In the presence of Sadguru Sri Madhusudan Sai, the opening of Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Super Speciality Hospital was presided over by Mr. Aravinda de Silva, a former captain and international cricket player for Sri Lanka. I understand that the foundation, since its inception in 2017, has treated over 16,000 outpatients.
