Greta Thunberg, the Swedish climate activist, participated in her final school strike for climate to mark her high school graduation on Friday, June 9.

Having previously taken a year-long break from school in 2019 to raise awareness about climate action, Thunberg announced on Twitter that her graduation marked the end of her ability to school-strike for climate.

"Today, I graduate from school, which means I'll no longer be able to school strike for the climate," Thunberg said on Twitter.

While her future protests would not be considered school strikes since she is no longer a student, Thunberg described the urgency of the fight for environment, stating that there is no other option but to do everything possible.

"This is the last school strike for me," she wrote, adding that there is "no other option than to do everything we possibly can."

"The fight has only just begun."

In 2018, at the age of 15, Thunberg initiated the School Strike for Climate Movement, also known as Fridays for Future, by sitting alone outside the Swedish Parliament to demand stronger action on climate change.

Her demonstration soon inspired similar protests worldwide, with students skipping classes to demand more immediate climate action.

Reflecting on the growth of the movement, Thunberg expressed her surprise at its global reach, stating that when she started striking in 2018, she could never have anticipated its impact.

"Quite suddenly this was a global movement growing every day. During 2019, millions of youth striked from school for the climate, flooding the streets in over 180 countries."

An indigenous minority of around 100,000 people spread over the northern parts of Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia, the Sami have traditionally lived off reindeer herding and fishing.

On Tuesday morning, Norwegian police forcibly removed a dozen activists from one of the ministry's entrances.

The protests came over a year after Norway's highest court unanimously ruled that the expropriation and operating permits for the construction of the 151 turbines were invalid.

However, they gave no guidance on what should be done with the turbines, which were already in operation. 
The Norwegian authorities have so far held off taking action and ordered further assessments, hoping to find a way that the turbines and Sami people can coexist.

Greta Thunberg expands wind farm protest in Norway

Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg on Thursday (January 19) accused the attendees of the World Economic Forum (WEF) of fuelling the destruction of the planet, as she spoke during a round-table discussion in Davos between climate campaigners and International Energy Agency head Fatih Birol.

She also slammed the&nbsp;United Arab Emirates&nbsp;for appointing Sultan Ahmed al-Jaber, chief executive of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), as chair of the Cop28 climate talks later this year.

She raised the matter at an event on the sidelines of the WEF’s annual meeting, saying&nbsp;lobbyists have been influencing these conferences “since, basically, forever”.

“This just puts a very clear face to it,” she added. “It’s completely ridiculous.”

Responding to Greta,&nbsp;a Cop28 spokesperson insisted al-Jaber,&nbsp;who founded&nbsp;renewable energy firm Masdar&nbsp;in 2006, was “uniquely qualified to deliver a successful Cop28”.

Thunberg participated in the discussion along with fellow activists Helena Gualinga from Ecuador, Vanessa Nakate from Uganda and Luisa Neubauer from Germany. The four&nbsp;activists called out energy companies and financial institutions that were financing investments in fossil fuels.&nbsp;

"We are right now in Davos where (there are) basically the people who are mostly fuelling the destruction of the planet," Thunberg said, reported news agency AFP. "The people who are at the very core of the climate crisis, the people who are investing in fossil fuels etc, and yet somehow these are the people that we seem to rely on for solving our problems," she added.&nbsp;

Thunberg pointed out that without massive public pressure from the outside, these people would go as far as they possibly could, as long as they could get away with it. "They will continue to invest in fossil fuels. They will continue to throw people under the bus for their own gain."

The Swedish climate activist also said that the global emissions of greenhouse gases were still increasing. Activist Helena Gualinga from Ecuador said during the round-table discussion that she, Greta, Vanessa and Luisa created a "cease and desist" letter to oil CEOs urging them to phase out from new fossil fuel projects.&nbsp;

"They, we know that they knew there's a report that has come out saying that they knew way before us what they were doing when they were exploring for oil. They knew what the consequences would be of CO2 gas emissions. They knew the irreversible consequences, the huge impact it would have on people's livelihood, on the environment," Gualinga said, as per Reuters report.&nbsp;

Earlier this week, these four activists launched an online petition demanding energy firms stop any new oil gas or coal extraction projects. On Thursday, Helena Gualinga said the petition was reaching nearly 900,000 signatures which showed the commitment of the youth, which also showed the commitment "of civil society and people and the change that we are demanding."

She, along with other young climate&nbsp; campaigners, will take part in a debate with the head of the International Energy Agency (IEA), Fatih Birol, on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum.

Thunberg and fellow activists Helena Gualinga of Ecuador, Vanessa Nakate of Uganda and Luisa Neubauer of Germany launched an online petition earlier this week, demanding energy firms to stop any new oil, gas or coal extraction projects, challenging them with legal action.

More than 870,000 people had signed the petition by late Wednesday.

"Enough is enough," Gualinga told AFP earlier this week. "We have to leave oil under the earth."

The IEA has said that Russia's invasion of Ukraine has caused an energy crisis which can hasten the transition to a "more sustainable and secure energy system".

The 20-year-old Swede had made headlines when she attended the summit in January 2020. She had warned that "our house is still on fire" and displayed anger about the fact that her demands had been "completely ignored".

"I agree with her efforts to stop that coal mine," Gore told a panel discussion on global warming.&nbsp;"We are not winning" the fight against global warming, he said.

Climate change is a major topic at the World Economic Forum. Businesses and governments have been put under the hammer on the topic and on their efforts to ensure that the world meets the increasingly elusive goal of limiting warming to 1.5 degree Celsius.

Thunberg was seen sitting alone in a large police bus after having been detained at the protest at about 380 miles southwest of German capital Berlin, a person present at the site was quoted as saying by Reuters.

"We are going to use force to bring you to the identity check, so please cooperate," a policeman said to the group, according to Reuters footage.

German riot police backed by bulldozers removed activists from buildings in the village with only a few left in trees and an underground tunnel by last week. However, protesters including Thunberg remained at the site staging a sit-in into Tuesday.

The Swedish climate activist addressed the around 6,000 protesters who marched towards Lutzerath on Saturday, calling the expansion of the mine a "betrayal of present and future generations."

"Germany is one of the biggest polluters in the world and needs to be held accountable," she said.

Swedish environmental activist, Greta Thunberg, famous for challenging world leaders to take immediate action for climate change mitigation,&nbsp;joined hundreds of other youths in suing the Swedish government for what they claim is inaction on climate change on Friday in Stockholm.

“Today on Black Friday is the perfect day to sue the state over its insufficient climate policies,” Thunberg said on Twitter. “So that’s what we did. See you in court!”

The case was planned and submitted by the Swedish youth-led group Aurora, and the 19-year-old was one of more than 600 young people to sign on. To file the lawsuit, the group marched to Stockholm District Court on Friday.

Grumbling her husband’s death, Ashrin said, "He even told my mother that he would convert to Islam, but they still never accepted the proposal." Billipuram Nagaraju belonged to the Mala community, classified as a Scheduled Caste in the state. Yet again, the woke community and rent-a-cause activists—that, otherwise, claim to stand for the rights of the underprivileged classes and quite conveniently so, it seems—specialize in whitewashing the realities and hankering down on the brutal injustices against the Hindu community for their unapologetic, unabated and perpetual hate for Hinduism.

&nbsp;Before calling it a day, let’s look at this case. Days after Aryan Khan, son of Shah Rukh Khan, was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau, the defenders of the woke culture argued that the 24-year-old was arrested because of his "Muslim" identity. Costa Coffee, the coffee giant, launched a range of limited edition rainbow coffee cups, wrapping their corporate brand in a rainbow colour virtue to help them gain popularity among the LGBTQ community. It is only about time when skinny lattes will no longer be called skinny due to their apparent fat shaming. Hilariously, the international giant Burger King recently launched a "Pride Whooper" in support of the LGBTQ community. "Time to be proud," read the ad. 

The agency behind the BK campaign wrote: "The intended message of the Pride Whopper was to spread equal love and equal rights." This, however, did not bode well for the company, which became embroiled in a raging controversy and a befuddled response across quarters.

Unlike the militant and unforgiving far-left that kills all voices except their own, I still believe that the woke culture has given a voice to those who do not subscribe to the two-gender notion. 

However, the woke tyranny of today has left many scholars in their field in a fix. A liberal utopia where if you even suggest that there might be such a thing as biological sex, you will be labelled as a transphobe. JK Rowling, one of the most well-known western writers, got criticism from LGBTQ activists because Dumbledore isn’t openly gay in the new Fantastic Beasts film. Is this really the height of the gay community’s oppression? The greatest threat to the LGBTQ community appears to be diversity in a fictional film, rather than Islamic states targeting gays with brutal public executions.&nbsp;

In the Indian context, last year, the Indian government introduced new agricultural reforms to bring Indian agriculture out of its pigeon-hole and into the glare of a competitive ballpark, but the move reached a fever pitch as over 300,000 farmers purportedly made their way to New Delhi to protest against the same. 

While the farmers may have had legitimate concerns and their grievances needed to be heard, some of the most articulate ‘left-leaning' Wokes such as Greta Thunberg and Rihanna weighed in on the Indian farm imbroglio, pledging support to the farmer protests. 

Perhaps not surprisingly, the alleged climate activist and monetised victim, Greta Thunberg, is unaware that the reforms resolve the climate apocalypse that she ‘fights’ for by minimizing the worst annual carbon emissions across the globe through crop burning (stubble burning), which also leads to significant health problems like asthma and cancer. 

Rihanna, a fully monetised celebrity, and a pure product of capitalism, denied the benefits of the same to millions of farmers in India, pushing them to espouse a system of agriculture which was not just medieval in method and practice but was first introduced in the medieval period itself. The hypocrisy is unreal, uncanny, and these words are beyond repair. However, a few economists, in the likes of Surjit Bhalla — India’s IMF executive director; World Bank consultant Swaminathan Aiyer; Gita Gopinath — Chief Economist of the IMF; and Krishnamurthy Subramanian — India’s chief economic advisor, have all unfortunately sung a different tune, extending support to the reforms. It is astoundingly fortuitous of these eminences to impudently contradict the woke manual!

&nbsp;This is what wokeness does. It allows one to go against the very principle that their activism—to accentuate their identity—stands for. More so, speak out against racism, oppression, and injustice wherever it exists. The moment you become part of the global elite today, you don't have a myriad of people agreeing with you because you have long mocked patriotism and tradition, formed a tiny club of money and privilege, and become a first-class hypocrite by undermining the same values for which you call yourself a liberal. 

Clearly, mediocre minds would rather celebrate the public inanity of the incurably dimwitted than ponder over the nuanced argument of an expert that would go over their heads anyway. The woke utopia has begun to silence all voices except its own, justifying all evil committed by its members-clique.It brings people together by segregating them into smaller and smaller groups, where only a handful of privileged, spoiled individuals with no credibility and numbers agree with you. The woke utopia is engaging in a much larger international area and seeping into the Indian diaspora through foreign media, celebrities, and OTT platforms. We must be careful!

Yet again, the woke community and rent-a-cause activists—that, otherwise, claim to stand for the rights of the underprivileged classes and quite conveniently so, it seems—specialize in whitewashing the realities and hankering down on the brutal injustices against the Hindu community for their unapologetic, unabated and perpetual hate for Hinduism. Before calling it a day, let’s look at this case. Days after Aryan Khan, son of Shah Rukh Khan, was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau, the defenders of the woke culture argued that the 24-year-old was arrested because of his "Muslim" identity. To summarise, the woke utopia dictates wilfully turning a blind eye to the murder of Nagaraju, a Dalit man, for the fear of being labelled Islamophobic, but bullies people into silence and cancels anyone that deviates from the very narrow woke path. And this is what identity politics does to you. What can one say or expect from the dolts of Woke culture who are wishfully motivated not to see the world how it actually is? You see racism and oppression where there is none. Michelle Malkin has rightly said, "Liberals see racism where it doesn't exist, fabricate it when they can't find it, and ignore it within their own ranks." The mainstream madness doesn’t end here, but where to begin? And I say, the new entrant to the Woke commune is a nincompoop who curses and vilifies the Uttar Pradesh Police while avoiding any comment on the Ranchi Police for the same set of actions! Most recently, Malala Yousafzai, an iconic victim of Islamic violence and its forceful nature, tweeted in support of the Muslim girls in Karnataka on the alleged grounds that they were denied entry into a government school while wearing a hijab, despite it being evident that the students were being used as cannon fodder by Islamists to disrupt and fuel anarchy in India. It is Malala who, in her book, I Am Malala, wrote, "Wearing a burqa is like walking inside a big fabric shuttlecock with only a grille to see through, and on hot days it's like an oven." The 19-year-old climate activist, Greta Thunberg made a surprise appearance at the Glastonbury festival, with a warning regarding a potential “total natural catastrophe” unless citizens take immediate action.&nbsp;

After a moving speech from the Pyramid stage which was painted with an apocalyptic image of the future of the planet, Thunberg also led chants of "climate" and "justice" with cheers from thousands of people at the festival.

"We are approaching the precipice and I would strongly suggest that all of those who have not yet been greenwashed out of our senses to stand our ground. Do not let them drag us another inch closer to the edge. Right now is where we stand our ground," The Guardian quoted Thunberg.

Emily Eavis, co-organiser of the Glastonbury festival invited Thunberg to the stage by describing her as, "the most inspiring speaker of this generation”.

Thunberg claimed that the world leaders are to be blamed for failing to stop the climate emergency and for developing “loopholes” that allow ecological destruction to go unaddressed.&nbsp;

"It has not only become acceptable for leaders to lie, but it’s also almost what we expect them to do," she added.

The surprise in-person speech by Thunberg was announced on Saturday.

The climate activist said, "It is taking action. It is stepping outside your comfort zone. And if a bunch of school kids was able to get millions of people on the streets and start changing their lives, just imagine what we could all do together if we try."

Thunberg said that it was high time for society to start “creating hope” rather than waiting for it to arrive.

"Hope is not something that is given to you. It is something you have to earn, to create. It cannot be gained passively from standing by passively and waiting for someone else to do something."

Thunberg's main intention to make a surprise appearance at the festival was to urge the people to make efforts to halt global warming before it is too late.

"These crises are the biggest story in the world. And it must be spoken as far and as wide as possible, as far as our voices can carry and even further still. It must be told in the articles, newspapers, movies, and songs; at breakfast tables, lunch meetings, family gatherings; in lifts and bus stops; and in a rural shop and music festivals like Glastonbury," she added.

Delegates from nearly 200 countries are in Glasgow to hammer out how to meet the Paris Agreement goals of limiting temperature rises to between 1.5 and 2 degrees Celsius.

At the halfway stage of the COP26 negotiations, some countries have upgraded their existing pledges to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, while there have been separate deals on phasing out coal, ending foreign fossil fuel funding, and slashing methane.

The promises followed a pre-COP26 estimate from the UN that said national climate plans, when brought together, put Earth on course to warm 2.7C this century.

With just 1.1C of warming so far, communities across the world are already facing ever more intense fire and drought, displacement and economic ruin wrought by global heating.

And a major assessment last week showed global CO2 emissions were set to rebound in 2021 to pre-pandemic levels.

Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg on Friday branded COP26 climate summit in Glasgow 'failure'. The climate summit in the Scottish city produced what some experts say vague promises to cut emissions even after a week of negotiations.

"It is not a secret that COP26 is a failure," Thunberg told thousands of youth protesters at a march in the Scottish city.&nbsp;

She called the COP26 talks "a two-week long celebration of business as usual and 'blah, blah, blah'." &nbsp;

"This is no longer a climate conference. This is now a global greenwashing festival," Thunberg told cheering crowds.&nbsp;

Delegates from nearly 200 nations are gathered at the COP26 summit to hash out the details of the 2015 Paris Agreement, which aims to limit global temperature rises to between 1.5 and 2 degrees Celsius through sweeping emissions cuts.&nbsp;

The first week saw announcements by some countries to phase out coal use and to end foreign fossil fuel funding, but there were few details on how they plan the mass decarbonisation scientists say is needed.

"They cannot ignore the scientific consensus and they cannot ignore us," said Thunberg.

"Our leaders are not leading. This is what leadership looks like," she said gesturing to the crowd.

Thunberg galvanised young people around the world to take action in "Fridays for Future" school strikes - which began with her standing every week outside the Swedish parliament.

The British president of the two-week conference acknowledged that much more needed to be done to secure more ambitious commitments to stop the world's slide into climate catastrophe, urging national negotiators to step up the pace.
