<p>Ivanna Ortega Serret, 12, raised almost a million dollars and 67,000 signatures for a petition to help fight water pollution and clean up Madin dam, northwest of Mexico City, KidsRights said.</p>

<p>An important water source for communities in the Greater Mexico City area, the dam has been heavily infested with a type of plant which proliferates in polluted water, local newspapers said.</p>

<p>One paper dubbed Ortega the "Greta Thunberg of Madin" after the Swedish teen activist who was a joint winner of the prize last year.</p>

<p>In Bangladesh, 17-year-old Sadat Rahman and his friends created an online application to protect teens from cybercrime after a 15-year-old girl committed suicide because of online bullying.</p>

<p>The "Cyber Teens" mobile app is already being used by 1,800 youngsters and has led to the capture of at least eight cyber criminals so far, said KidsRights, a children's rights foundation.</p>

<p>Rahman has also spoken to some 45,000 teenagers in Bangladesh about online security.</p>

<p>Siena Castellon, 18, from Ireland, created a website to help pupils with autism and severe learning disabilities.</p>

<p>She is also the founder of the Neurodiversity Celebration Week campaign, which encourages schools to recognise the strengths and talents of children with special needs, instead of focusing on their weaknesses and difficulties.</p>

<p>In May 2019, over 340 schools and 314,000 students across Britain, the US and Australia took part in the campaign.</p>

<p>"I am in awe of these children, whose powerful message is amplified by their youthful energy and an unshakable belief that children can, no must, improve their own futures," Tutu said in a statement.</p>

<p>The winner will be announced on November 13 in an online ceremony from KidsRights' headquarters in the Netherlands.</p>

<p>The resulting film, "Greta", reveals not only the inside story of the pain and risk Thunberg has put herself through for the climate cause -- braving death threats and a hair-raising North Atlantic crossing in a racing yacht -- but her love of breaking into dance and her gift for comedy.</p>

<p>Thunberg said&nbsp;that she hoped the intimate, often touching portrait that tracks her extraordinary rise would put an end to the "conspiracy theories that I don't think for myself and someone else writes my speeches.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"In the movie you can see that is not actually true, that I do decide for myself," said the activist, who has been dismissed as a "brat" by Brazil's far-right President Jair Bolsonaro, who claimed she was being manipulated.<br />

Several scenes show in the documentary her clashing with her actor father, Svante -- who she convinced to become a vegan -- often over her perfectionism as she writes and rewrites her speeches.</p>

<p>At another point she despairs that the responsibility of her role to remind the world of the existential crisis it faces is "too much", a fear she repeated Friday during her virtual press conference at Venice.</p>

<p>"It is such a responsibility. I don't want to have to do all this," she said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Yet when far-right critics vilified her as "mentally ill" in the film, Thunberg, who has Asperger syndrome, laughed it off saying, "Sometimes I think it might be good if everyone had a bit of Asberger's.<br />

<p>To clip the activist’s wings, authorities forced a psychological test on her, which found that she was “stubborn”.</p>

<p>Her father, Ou Jun told The Guardian how he worries about her future, and whether her beliefs could “derail” it, all the while supporting her right to her beliefs and activism.</p>

<p>As part of its efforts to limit climate change caused by carbon emissions, China has pledged to peak its emissions on or before 2030, as part of the Paris Agreement.&nbsp;Xi Jinping also claims to have recanted his policies around “ecological civilisation”.</p>

<p>Ou has no plans to stop, and has started an initiative called Plant For Survival, encouraging young likeminded folks like herself in China to plant trees. In fact, between November 2019 and January 2020, the group is responsible for planting 300 trees around Guilin.</p>

<p>The 17-year-old is the first youngster in China to publicly take up the cause of climate change, and has hence become a target for authorities.</p>

<p>Brazil, France and Germany&nbsp;replied to the petition response and&nbsp;said that the UN cannot hear complaint against ''five countries of flouting child rights to clean air.''</p>

<p>With the filing, Thunberg and her fellow activists are escalating a confrontation with the five countries that stemmed from a lawsuit they formally filed to the UN Convention back in September 2019.</p>

<p>The group focused on these countries, as they are the biggest climate polluters of the 45 nations that have adopted an optional protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child.</p>

<p>The 2019 complaint alleges that the countries knew about the negative impact on the environment of their carbon emissions and did nothing to prevent it.The lawsuit joins a growing number of attempts to bring climate cases to court, alleging that government or businesses have flouted the law or failed in their international obligations.</p>

When I returned from my trip around Central Europe I isolated myself (in a borrowed apartment away from my mother and sister) since the number of cases of COVID-19 (in Germany for instance) were similar to Italy in the beginning. Around ten days ago I started feeling some symptoms, exactly the same time as my father - who traveled with me from Brussels. I was feeling tired, had shivers, a sore throat and coughed. My dad experienced the same symptoms, but much more intense and with a fever. In Sweden you can not test yourself for COVID-19 unless you’re in need of emergent medical treatment. Everyone feeling ill are told to stay at home and isolate themselves. I have therefore not been tested for COVID-19, but it’s extremely likely that I’ve had it, given the combined symptoms and circumstances. Now I’ve basically recovered, but - AND THIS IS THE BOTTOM LINE: I almost didn’t feel ill. My last cold was much worse than this! Had it not been for someone else having the virus simultainously I might not even have suspected anything. Then I would just have thought I was feeling unusually tired with a bit of a cough. And this it what makes it so much more dangerous. Many (especially young people) might not notice any symptoms at all, or very mild symptoms. Then they don’t know they have the virus and can pass it on to people in risk groups. We who don’t belong to a risk group have an enormous responsibility, our actions can be the difference between life and death for many others. Please keep that in mind, follow the advice from experts and your local authorities and #StayAtHome to slow the spread of the virus.
