The music world's A-listers will hit Las Vegas on Sunday for the Grammy Awards, where pop's chart-toppers along with jazzman Jon Batiste will compete for the industry's most coveted trophies.

The US gambling capital is hosting the ceremony for the first time ever, after organizers postponed the original January 31 event over a surge in Covid-19 cases and then moved it out of Los Angeles.

The timing of the Grammys just one week after Will Smith stunned the world by slapping Chris Rock on stage at the Oscars adds an extra layer of unpredictability to what is already usually one of the more bizarre nights on the showbiz awards circuit.

Justin Bieber will vie for eight trophies at the ceremony hosted by late-night television personality Trevor Noah, as will R&amp;B favourite H.E.R. and singer-rapper Doja Cat.

Grammys darling Billie Eilish is in the running for seven prizes. The same holds true for Olivia Rodrigo, a former Disney channel actress who exploded onto the pop scene last year with her breakout smash hit "drivers license."

The 19-year-old Rodrigo landed expected nods for her much-touted debut album "Sour," and is a near shoo-in for the Best New Artist prize -- she is up against Eilish's brother Finneas, rapper Saweetie and experimental pop act Japanese Breakfast, among others.

Like Eilish in 2020, Rodrigo has the opportunity to sweep the top four categories on the same night, which would make her only the third artist to do so. The first was singer-songwriter Christopher Cross.&nbsp;

But it is Jon Batiste -- the jazz and R&amp;B artist and bandleader, who won an Oscar last year for his soundtrack to the Pixar animated movie "Soul" -- who has the most chances at Grammys gold, snagging 11 nominations including in two top categories.

The artist born into a prominent New Orleans musical dynasty will compete mainly on the strength of his album "We Are" and its rousing single "Freedom."

The sleeper nominations leader is up for awards in fields spanning genre and medium, including R&amp;B, jazz, American roots and contemporary classical, along with nods for Best Music Video and his composition work on "Soul."

He appeared briefly on the red carpet at a pre-Grammy gala Friday, hamming it up for photographers before telling AFP he was feeling "great" ahead of Sunday's awards.

"I'm so happy," he said with a loud whoop. "My granddad came to town!"

&nbsp;Recognition across the board -

The Grammys field is wide open -- especially after the Recording Academy expanded the top four categories yet again, this time to include 10 nominees, in a bid to improve diversity.

"I guess in this instance, expansion of the categories does mean more women, more marginalized people getting recognized," said Brandi Carlile, who is up this year for five gramophones.

"Some things improve in certain areas, they slip in other places," she told AFP, but added: "I'm watching it change and evolve and get better every year, and I'm heartened by it."

The expansion has also resulted in one of the most eclectic crops of Best New Artist nominees in recent memory, even if Rodrigo is widely tipped to win.

"Pop just has a bigger footprint, but I love that they're diving into other genres," country singer Jimmie Allen, a nominee in the category, told AFP.

"Win or lose, I'm just happy to be nominated."

Angelique Kidjo, who has four past Grammys under her belt and has three chances to win this year in the global performance categories, said the Recording Academy had made strides in recent years but that there was a "long road" ahead.

"It's a work in progress," she told AFP. "There's goodwill on their part. How do we bring that into action?"

She encouraged the Academy to add the global performance categories into the televised broadcast, which normally is reserved for the top four awards and some choice genre fields.&nbsp;

The vast majority of prizes are given out before a slim audience in the hours before the main gala.

As per Variety, the outlet stated that it had obtained a copy of the earlier list. Mason told the outlet that the artists added to the list were simply the ninth and tenth most voted by the Academy`s members.&nbsp; 
 
As to whether ratings for the multimillion-dollar Grammy telecast were a consideration for the Swift-West addition, he responded, "A thousand per cent no. That was not a consideration." 
 
Academy co-president Valeisha Butterfield Jones added, "While it may seem rushed, it really was a thoughtful, well-intentioned process that was also data-driven." 
 
Other questions about the final nominations were being raised this week by recording artist Linda Chorney, who said she awoke this week to Google alerts linking to news stories showing she had been nominated for best American roots performance for her song 'Bored'.&nbsp; 
 
Yet when the official list was disseminated, Chorney's song was not among the nominees, and a song by Rhiannon Giddens took the spot that seemingly had been hers. 
 
Chorney says she wrote to some of the reporters who published a story claiming a nomination for her and heard back apologetically from one that the information had been cut-and-pasted from an incorrect source, but she hasn't gotten any feedback on what that source was. With no explanations forthcoming about why erroneous news accounts might have credited her with a nod, Chorney believes she did earn a nomination and that it somehow got axed.

The Recording Academy on Tuesday revealed the nominees for the 64th annual Grammy Awards which will be held in 2022. This is the first time that the Grammys will have 10 nominees in each of the general field categories. 
 
These categories are Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best New Artist. 
 
On Tuesday, Jon Batiste led the nominations with 11 nods, followed by Justin Bieber, Doja Cat and H.E.R. with 8 each. Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo got 7 nods each. 
 
Each of those artists is nominated for the night's top award, Album of the Year, and are joined in that category by Taylor Swift, Kanye West, Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga, and Lil Nas X. 
 
The nominations also led to Jay-Z creating history. The rapper earned three new nominations, making him the most-nominated artist in Grammy's history with a total of 83 nods. He was earlier tied with Quincy Jones at 80 nods each. 
The awards are voted by the Recording Academy's voting membership body of music makers, who represent all genres and creative disciplines, including recording artists, songwriters, producers, mixers, and engineers

The Recording Academy on Tuesday revealed the nominees for the 64th annual Grammy Awards which will be held in 2022. This is the first time that the Grammys will have 10 nominees in each of the general field categories.

The Recording Academy on Tuesday revealed the nominees for the 64th annual Grammy Awards which will be held in 2022. This is the first time that the Grammys will have 10 nominees in each of the general field categories. These categories are Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best New Artist. On Tuesday, Jon Batiste led the nominations with 11 nods, followed by Justin Bieber, Doja Cat and H.E.R. with 8 each. Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo got 7 nods each. Each of those artists is nominated for the night's top award, Album of the Year, and are joined in that category by Taylor Swift, Kanye West, Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga, and Lil Nas X. The nominations also led to Jay-Z creating history. The rapper earned three new nominations, making him the most-nominated artist in Grammy's history with a total of 83 nods. He was earlier tied with Quincy Jones at 80 nods each. The awards are voted by the Recording Academy's voting membership body of music makers, who represent all genres and creative disciplines, including recording artists, songwriters, producers, mixers, and engineers The final nominations list for the 64th annual Grammy Awards is as follows. Grammy awards 2022 full nomination list: Jon Batiste leads with 11 nods, Justin Bieber gets 8

Jon Batiste led the Grammy nominations on Tuesday in a best album field that spanned rap to jazz music and embraced newcomers like teen sensation Olivia Rodrigo and veteran Tony Bennett alike. 
 
Batiste and Justin Bieber will compete for the top prize - album of the year - along with Rodrigo, Billie Eilish, R&amp;B artist Doja Cat, singer-songwriter H.E.R, rapper Kanye West, Bennett`s collaboration with Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift and rapper Lil Nas X. 
 
The Grammys, the highest honors in the music industry, will be handed out at a ceremony in Los Angeles on Jan. 31. 
 
Nominees in each of the top three categories - album, song and record of the year - were increased to 10 from eight for the first time. 
 
"Adding more nominees is a way to cast a wider net for more music, more artists and more genres," Recording Academy chief executive Harvey Mason Jr. said, announcing the change on Tuesday. 
 
Eilish ("Happier Than Ever"), Rodrigo ("Drivers License"), Bieber ("Peaches") and Batiste ("Freedom") were among the 10 nominees for record of the year, along with Swedish band Abba`s new comeback single, "I Still Have Faith in You." 
 
Swift, an 11-time Grammy winner, snagged a best album nod for her best-selling "Evermore" but was shut out of the other races, disappointing fans who felt she had been snubbed. 
 
"NO PROBLEMS TODAY JUST CHAMPAGNE," Swift tweeted. "SO stoked evermore has been honored like this." 
 
Rodrigo, 18, who burst onto the U.S. charts in January when her single "Drivers License" went viral, got seven nods, including best new artist and album ("Sour"). 
 
Batiste, who also leads the band on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert," scored nominations across the board, ranging from classical composition and American roots to his music video "Freedom" and album "We Are," which was inspired by the Black Lives Matter protests of 2020. 
 
"WOW!! Thank you God!! I love EVERYBODY! I’m so grateful to my collaborators and to my ancestors," Batiste wrote on Twitter. 
 
Rapper Jay-Z became the most Grammy-nominated artist of all time when he took his total to 83, surpassing the previous record held by music producer Quincy Jones. Paul McCartney added two nods to take second place with 81. 
 
The Recording Academy earlier this year changed the way nominations and winners are chosen after allegations that the process was open to rigging and Canadian artist The Weeknd received zero nods. 
 
Nominees this time were selected by all 11,000 voting members of the Recording Academy, instead of smaller committees whose names were not revealed. Winners are also chosen by the musicians, producers and songwriters who belong to the academy. 
 
K-pop band BTS, which has yet to win a Grammy despite dominating the US&nbsp;music charts for almost two years, scored a single nod on Tuesday for the performance of their top-selling single "Butter" in the pop group field. 
 
West, who`s had a contentious relationship with the Grammys, got five nods from his hit album "Donda," which was dedicated to his late mother.

Recording Academy commits to Grammy Awards inclusion rider

In a startling endorsement of Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump, former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson claimed that there is "little doubt" that the world was safer and more stable when Trump served as the US president.

Johnson's comments came when he was speaking to the UK's Sun newspaper at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Washington.

"When you look back at Trump’s last term in office there is little doubt that the world felt safer and calmer and more stable," Johnson told the newspaper.&nbsp;

During Trump's years in power, the Abraham Accords were signed by the leaders of Israel, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bahrain under which the latter two countries normalised their ties with Israel in a major step towards a semblance of stability in West Asia.

He added: "Right now much of the world is craving the stability that goes with strong and decisive American leadership."

Pop star Taylor Swift has pulled out the recent re-recording of her 2008 sophomore album `Fearless` from running at Grammys and CMA Awards. Instead, a representative for Republic Records told Billboard that Swift`s newest album, 'Evermore', will be submitted to the Grammys for consideration in all eligible categories.&nbsp; 
 
In a statement to Billboard, a representative for Republic Records recently said, "After careful consideration, Taylor Swift will not be submitting 'Fearless (Taylor`s Version)' in any category at this year`s upcoming Grammy and CMA Awards." 
 
"Fearless has already won four Grammys including album of the year, as well as the CMA Award for album of the year in 2009/2010 and remains the most awarded country album of all time," the representative added. 
 
Swift's `Folklore` -- which was released in July 2020, less than five months before `Evermore` -- recently nabbed the 31-year-old singer a history-making third album of the year win at the 2021 Grammys. 
 
'Fearless (Taylor`s Version)` released in April earlier this year and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, over 12 years after its original version did the same, back in November 2008. 
 
The more recent record, which features six new tracks, became her ninth album to debut at No. 1, according to Billboard.

We kept all the same parts that I initially dreamed up for these songs. But if there was any way that we could improve upon the sonic quality, we did," she said. 
 
After a bitter legal fued with Scooter Braun, Swift was legally allowed to re-record her first five albums in November. Scooter Braun gained ownership of her albums following a USD 330 million deal with Big Machine Label Group.

"They sat down at a six-person table, but had the table to themselves and sat next to each other on the same side of the table," the source adds. "They were facing outward toward the other restaurant-goers. They both looked great and happy. When they walked out to leave, they were linking arms again."

The pop star received four&nbsp;Grammy&nbsp;nods this year -- Best Pop Solo Performance for "Yummy," Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for "Intentions," Best Pop Vocal Album for Changes -- and winning one for Best Country Duo/Group Performance for his "10,000 Hours" collab with Dan+ Shay.

Now that the 26-year-old artist has had her big break, Phoebe is imparting her words of wisdom onto other musicians trying to make it in this industry.
