Manchester United squared off with Barcelona in the UEFA Europa League clash, which ended in a thrilling 2-2 scoreline. Marcos Alonso scored the first goal, for Barcelona, but Man United levelled it pretty soon with in-form Marcus Rashford scoring in the 52nd minute. Jules Kounde provided a 2-1 lead for the Red Devils before Raphinha scored for the Spanish club and the match ended in a 2-2 stalemate.

After the game, Rashford opined on the high-voltage clash, held at the Camp Nou stadium, and feels that his side controlled proceedings in the first half but had some good opportunities which could have put them ahead.

“We started the game really well. There was good control and possession. We had moments in the first half but not really as many clear cut chances, just good moments that could have been great opportunities I think,” said Rashford.

He added, "From the first couple of minutes putting the ball across the face of the goal is a massive chance. It ends up not really a chance because no one was there, but in reality, it's a massive opportunity for us and we just have to gamble more and try and get in front of the goalkeeper, in front of the six-yard box for tap-ins."

The 25-year-old Rashford added that Man United need to capitalise on big moments as they make all the difference in such marquee encounters. He went on to add that the club can build on this performance in the second leg at Old Trafford.

“So yeah, in big games it's big moments that make the difference. I feel like, especially in the second half we took them but in the first half, we probably could have done more. But again, as I said, they're a top team and I think we got what we expected today in terms of their playing style and what they're good at. It's a good performance from us and one to build on and improve on.

“We have to move on now and 2-2 is a result we can take back. We can definitely take that performance, we have a league game in between, but for the next game we want to bring all that we can,” Rashford concluded.

The second leg between both sides will take place on February 24 at Old Trafford and Man United will be eager to get past Barcelona in front of a jam-packed home crowd.

Europa League: Marcus Rashford reacts after Manchester United's thrilling draw vs Barcelona

Written off at times during an unusually erratic season, resurgent Manchester City delivered a resounding statement as they moved to the top of the Premier League with a 3-1 victory at title rivals Arsenal on Wednesday. As City's players celebrated in front of their travelling fans in one corner of the Emirates Stadium at the final whistle, Pep Guardiola's face was wreathed in smiles, and perhaps tinged with a little relief. Just a few minutes earlier, Guardiola had been punching the air in delight as second half goals from Jack Grealish and Erling Haaland lifted City back to the top of the table.

Kevin De Bruyne had given City the lead and even Bukayo Saka's controversial penalty equaliser wasn't enough to shake the champions' equilibrium once they rode Arsenal's first half storm on a rainy night in north London. Having trailed Arsenal by eight points just a month ago, City are now firmly in contention to retain the title. Arsenal might have a game in hand but it was City who finished a frenetic encounter with all the momentum in the title race. Guardiola has been waiting for this moment as he searched for concrete proof his City stars still had the hunger required to be crowned champions. While there has never been any doubt about the hyper-competitive Guardiola's desire to lift the Premier League trophy for the fifth time in six seasons, it has not always been so clear that his team held the same appetite for success.

Defeats at Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham, as well as a home loss to Brentford and a surprise League Cup exit at Southampton, had given the impression that all was not well in the City camp. Guardiola's curious tactics and his unexpected decision to allow Joao Cancelo to join Bayern Munich on loan in January further added to the sense of a team drifting at a time when Arsenal were revitalised under his former assistant Mikel Arteta. Even Erling Haaland's barrage of goals came with the caveat that the Norway striker's style of play might not be best suited to Guardiola's philosophy.

But as the critics sharpened their knives, Guardiola saw signs in training ahead of their seismic showdown at Arsenal that his squad were about to make their point to the doubters. "When we were second in the table, we were always there. But we had the feeling we needed a little more. This week the mood in training, the concentration, the focus were there," Guardiola said. Guardiola admitted his tactics against Arsenal -- which included starting midfielder Bernardo Silva at left-back -- had to be altered at half-time but it was an attitude change among his players that was just as important.

"In the first half Arsenal were better. We were soft. My plan wasn't good," Guardiola said. "It was not easy to play against them. But we were still in the game, we were focused, and in the end the quality of the players made the difference." Grealish confirmed City had been fully tuned into the task at hand. "We were saying today, honestly. You know you get those games where you speak amongst yourselves, and everyone just seems so concentrated on the game today," Grealish said. "If I'm being honest I thought Arsenal were the better team, but to win titles you've got to come to places like this and win even when you are not at your best." Even though they are sitting pretty at the top, Guardiola refused to label City as title favourites.

"We won against Arsenal at the Emirates. They have one game in hand so I consider they are still top of the league. There are still so many games to play, the Champions League is coming as well," he said. "If we had come here eight or nine points behind and lost it would have been almost over. But we had a chance to be close and we took it. "If you want the crown, fight for it. We still want it."

Man City move to top of Premier League with 3-1 win over title rivals Arsenal

Kingsley Coman scored the only goal of the game as Bayern Munich beat Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie on Tuesday, with substitute Kylian Mbappe denied a late equaliser by a marginal offside call. The unmarked Coman swept in an Alphonso Davies cross eight minutes into the second half at the Parc des Princes, just as Mbappe was preparing to enter the fray on his return from injury after PSG had appeared devoid of ideas without their top scorer.

Mbappe, and the entire stadium, thought he had equalised with eight minutes remaining when he turned in a Nuno Mendes cutback, but the goal was ruled out because the Portuguese full-back was just ahead of the last defender at the start of the move.

Bayern finished the game with 10 men after Benjamin Pavard was sent off, but it was a frustrating ending for PSG. The French giants looked much better in the latter stages with Mbappe on the field but also needed fine saves by Gianluigi Donnarumma to prevent a bigger deficit. PSG must hope they can turn the tie around in the second leg in Munich on March 8. “We are at a disadvantage but we saw that we were capable of causing them problems and now we just need to make sure all our players are in good health and we will go there to try to qualify,"

Mbappe, who had another goal ruled out for a clear offside, said. Coman, who started his career in Paris, did not celebrate his goal but it was a case of history repeating itself -- he had been the matchwinner when Bayern beat the Qatar-owned club in the 2020 final in Lisbon to become European champions for the sixth time. "It was a bit strange. I grew up at this club, in this city, I was born here, so it was difficult to celebrate but at the end we are really pleased with the victory," Coman said.

Mbappe's fitness had dominated the build-up to the game, with the France superstar initially ruled out because of a thigh injury before making a faster-than-expected return to training and being named in the squad. He was named among the substitutes, while Warren Zaire-Emery, at 16 years and 343 days old, became the youngest player ever to start a Champions League knockout game. But Bayern had little to be afraid of in the first half as Mbappe –- scorer of seven goals in six games in the group stage –- watched on, with Lionel Messi and Neymar badly missing his presence.

Instead Bayern, playing with a three-man central defence, controlled the game and restricted PSG to just one attempt in the first half. Yet the Bundesliga leaders, still without Sadio Mane as he recovers from injury, did little to trouble Donnarumma apart from a Joshua Kimmich shot that was easily saved. Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann took off Joao Cancelo at half-time and replaced him with Canadian international Davies, a change that saw Coman move from the left flank to the right.

PSG also made a change, replacing Achraf Hakimi with France centre-back Presnel Kimpembe, but the biggest cheer of the night had been reserved for Mbappe when he came out to warm up during the break.

The 24-year-old was preparing to come on when Bayern opened the scoring as Davies crossed from the left to the far post where the unmarked Coman finished. Mbappe promptly replaced Carlos Soler but the French champions needed Donnarumma to keep them in the game, and perhaps the tie, as he produced a fingertip save to touch an Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting effort onto the woodwork.

From the corner that followed, Donnarumma saved from Pavard's header. PSG needed to get the ball to Mbappe and they eventually did in the 73rd minute, a Fabian Ruiz ball over the top sending the forward bounding towards goal. Bayern goalkeeper Yann Sommer rushed out to block Mbappe's shot with his face before Neymar was denied from the follow-up.

Then Mbappe did put the ball in the net, only for the celebrations to be cut short, and Bayern held on even after Pavard was shown a second yellow for scything down Messi. "It is clear that Kylian Mbappe can change any game," said Nagelsmann. "This was a very important result but it is just the first step."

Czech international midfielder Jakub Jankto said on Monday that he was gay in an emotional video on his Twitter account. "I am homosexual and I no longer want to hide myself," Jankto said in English. Only a handful of top players have publicly come out as gay while still playing. Justin Fashanu came out in 1990. Josh Cavallo, at Adelaide United, came out in October 2021 and Jake Daniels did so at English side Blackpool in May 2022. Jankto, a 27-year-old winger on loan at Czech top-flight side Sparta Prague from Getafe, became the first player attached to a club in La Liga to come out.

"Like everybody else, I also want to live my life in freedom, without fears, without prejudice, without violence, or with love," he added. "I have a job and I have been doing it as best as I can for years, with seriousness, professionalism and passion," said Jankto. Sparta Prague said Jankto had previously told the club and his team-mates about his sexual orientation. "Jakub Jankto spoke openly about his sexual orientation with the club's management, coach and teammates some time ago," said the club on Twitter. "Everything else concerns his personal life. No further comments. No more questions. "You have our support. Live your life, Jakub. Nothing else matters."

Getafe also offered their support. "Our maximum respect and unconditional support to our footballer Jakub Jankto," wrote the Madrid side on Twitter. The top football bodies also threw their support behind Jankto, just like several football clubs. "We're all with you, Jakub. Football is for everyone," tweeted FIFA. "Well done, Jakub. You're a true inspiration, and European football is with you!" said UEFA. "Proud of you, Jakub!" tweeted La Liga leaders Barcelona.

Jankto, who has also played for Udinese and Sampdoria in Serie A, has played 45 games and scored four goals for the Czech national team. He has a three-year-old son, David, with his ex-girlfriend with whom he broke up in 2021.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag was all praise for Jadon Sancho, after the youngster came off the bench and scored a decisive goal to secure a draw against Leeds United on Wednesday night, having endured a tough last few months. "I'm really happy he is in the right direction," said Ten Hag before adding, "I hope he can keep this momentum going and I'm sure it will strengthen him and motivate him to do even more." "I think it's in his own hands. So if he wants, he can do. And this team is great to play in, will give you joy but I really enjoy seeing him play the way he did with so much confidence, with so much belief, really direct. It was great to see him play in this attack." Sancho had been away from footballing action and scored his first goal in United shirt since September last year. A week ago, he made his first appearance against Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup fourth-round match. "It's clear it's a difficult period that he finds himself out. I'm pleased and I'm proud he did it. So I will back him, the coaches will back him, the team is backing him and supporting him in this process and finally he has to do it by himself," added the Dutch manager. Sergio Ramos hasn't had the best of on-field equation with Lionel Messi in the past, with the two being involved in some fiesty exchanges. However, the situation isn't the same anymore with the duo having buried their past differences while sharing the dressing room in Paris Saint Germain (PSG). Thus, Ramos recently lauded the Argentine and termed him as the 'best player football has ever produced'.

Speaking to PSG TV, as quoted by SportsBible, the Spanish defender Ramos stated that after 'suffering' for many years while squaring off against Messi, he is finally getting the chance to enjoy him at the French club. "There was suffering for several years playing against Messi," the 36-year-old told PSG TV, " I am now enjoying him. He is the best player football has ever produced."

Ramos, thus, snubbed Cristiano Ronaldo -- his former Real Madrid teammate -- to call Messi as the greatest footballer ever. The two had joined forces against Ronaldo during PSG's recent friendly match versus Riyadh XI.

Relegation-threatened Everton announced on Monday they had appointed former Burnley boss Sean Dyche as their new manager to replace the sacked Frank Lampard. Dyche, who has agreed a two-and-a-half-year contract, has a tough first matchup against Premier League leaders Arsenal at Goodison Park on Saturday. The 51-year-old said it was an "honour" to take over at the Merseyside club, which has not won any silverware since 1995. "I know about Everton's passionate fan base and how precious this club is to them," Dyche said in a club statement. "We're ready to work and ready to give them what they want. That starts with sweat on the shirt, effort and getting back to some of the basic principles of what Everton Football Club has stood for for a long time." "We want to bring back a good feeling. We need the fans, we need unity and we need everyone aligned. That starts with us as staff and players." Next chapter loading. 🔋 — Everton (@Everton) January 30, 2023 × Everton chairman Bill Kenwright said: "He quickly convinced me that he has exactly the right attributes to make himself a great Everton manager -- and a man who could inspire our fanbase." Lampard was sacked last week after a run of nine defeats in 12 Premier League matches, with a dismal loss at relegation rivals West Ham proving the final straw in his troubled reign. Languishing second from bottom of the Premier League, Everton are battling to avoid playing in the second tier of English football for the first time since 1954. Former Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa had also been in the running to become Everton's eighth permanent manager since Farhad Moshiri took ownership of the club in 2016. Track record Dyche, who also previously managed Watford, was sacked by Burnley last April before the club's relegation from the Premier League. He was sometimes criticised for his style of football at Turf Moor but over-achieved on a tight budget during his 10-year reign, leading them to promotion from the Championship twice and keeping them in the Premier League for several years. Dyche also guided Burnley to their first European qualification in half a century after a seventh-place finish in the 2017/18 season. In a sign of the turmoil enveloping Everton, club directors were earlier this month ordered to stay away from Goodison Park due to perceived security risks. Hampered by the sale of Brazil forward Richarlison to Tottenham in the close season, Everton have managed only three wins in 20 league games this term against a backdrop of mounting fan fury. There have been widespread protests against the board at recent games. WATCH | Frank Lampard sacked as Everton manager after defeat by West Ham × Supporters staged a sit-in demonstration after the recent loss to Southampton, with Everton defender Yerry Mina and team-mate Anthony Gordon confronted by fans when they left Goodison Park in their cars. Former youth-team player Gordon, 21, joined high-flying Newcastle on Sunday for a fee that could reportedly rise to £45 million ($56 million). Responding to Lampard's sacking last week, Everton fans' group NSNOW called for Moshiri to "stop the rot". "Nothing tells the story of Everton's mismanagement under the current owner and board more than the fact we now need to appoint our eighth 'permanent' manager since 2016," the statement said. "The chaos and dysfunction within Everton's leadership has got us into this position. The owner needs to take urgent and radical steps to stop the rot. Or sell to someone who will." Majority shareholder Moshiri last week said he was not walking away from the crisis-hit Premier League club but the British-Iranian businessman is seeking outside investment to help fund the completion of Everton's new 53,000-capacity stadium. The BBC has issued an apology after pornographic noises were played during the live coverage of an FA cup pre-match build-up between Wolverhampton and Liverpool at Molineux Stadium in the United Kingdom, on Tuesday (January 17). The noises were transmitted via cell phone by a YouTube prankster which interrupted the Match of the Day presenter and former England striker Gary Lineker who initially tried to laugh it off.

Lineker was previewing a tie between the two teams with fellow pundits Paul Ince and Danny Murphy, late Tuesday when sexual sounds emerged from the background which was followed by a “frenzied studio hunt”. He later took to Twitter and posted an image of the source of the pornographic noises which had been a hidden mobile phone “taped to the back of the set.” Well, we found this taped to the back of the set. And when it comes to professional woman football players, the situation is even grimmer.

Apart from financial constraints, injuries have also played a role in Poulomi's willingness to accept the job, but none of this has kept her away from the football field entirely. Despite working a 12-hour shift, she makes time to practice for a couple of hours every day, hoping to reclaim her national jersey.

There is still hope because the Indian Football Association (IFA) has contacted her for a meeting with the officials.

Trial began in the Indonesia stadium disaster on Monday when five men charged with negligence appeared in front of the court via video conferencing. Three local police officers, a match organiser, and a security official are facing the music. If convicted by the court, they could face a maximum sentence of five years in prison. A sixth suspect, a former director of the company that runs Indonesia's premier football league is currently under police investigation. The accused were supposed to be physically present in the court. However, the public furore over the incident forced the authorities to conduct the proceedings virtually for security reasons. Even then, thousands of police personnel were deployed around the court. "Lives should be paid with lives. That's not just numbers, it's human lives. We need justice for my child," one of the parents protesting outside the courthouse was quoted as saying by AFP. Trial begins in the Indonesia stadium disaster that killed over 130

Former Barcelona legend and Argentina captain Lionel Messi was called 'sewer rat' and 'hormonal dwarf' by Barcelona's former head of legal services Roman Gomez Ponti in leaked WhatsApp messages, according to SPORT. The publication acquired a series of WhatsApp messages exchanged between the former Barca board, which indicated an intense animosity towards Messi.

The WhatsApp messages also comprised Josep Maria Bartomeu, ex-CEO Oscar Grau, executives Jordi Moix, Oriol Tomas, and David Bellver, former CFO Pancho Schroder and Director for Strategy & Innovation Javier Sobrino. This happened soon after a leak of Messi's contract with El Mundo led to a huge uproar among the board members. Hence, they took to the WhatsApp group with Ponti passing several derogatory comments on Messi.

As per the SPORT, Ponti reportedly told Bartomeu and the group in Spanish: "Barto, really, you can't be such a good person with this sewer rat. The club has given him everything and he has dedicated himself to marking a dictatorship of signings, transfers, renewals, sponsors just for him, etc."

The former head of legal services then asserted, "I will never be able to do it but to the figures of his contract should be added Pinto, the renewal of Suarez, and Jordi Alba, or the renewal fee of Fati (Rodrigo Messi, agent?). But he doesn't even know how to read and on top of that he had a drug dealer as a partner)."

Ponti then went ahead and accused Messi of blackmail, before labelling him as a "hormonal dwarf". "And above all, the accumulation of blackmails and disrespect that the club and those of us who work at the club have suffered from this hormonal dwarf who owes Barcelona his life... ah!"

Ponti added, "But when things go wrong (pandemic) you receive the mythical WhatsApp message: 'presi, lower the salary of the others, but don't touch me and Luis'. I hope he leaves amidst the indifference of the people, which is the worst thing that can happen to him."

To this, the former CEO Grau reportedly responded by saying, "I agree on many things, but first Barcelona and this type of article hurts the club's image."

It is to be noted that Messi left Barcelona in mid-2021 after the end of his contract. It was an emotional exit for the Argentine who became a part of Barcelona's youth academy at the age of 13 and later went onto become an integral part of the Spanish club, ending with as many as 672 goals.

After his Barcelona exit, Messi joined French club Paris Saint Germain (PSG) and his contract will end in 2022-23 and is yet to officially extend his stay in the French capital.

Champions Manchester City crashed out of the League Cup after suffering a shock 2-0 defeat at struggling Southampton in the quarter-finals on Wednesday. Southampton, bottom of the Premier League table, scored twice in the first half through Sekou Mara and Moussa Djenepo and City never seriously threatened to get back into the match.

Mara scored his first goal for Southampton in the 23rd minute as he connected well with a whipped cross by Lyanco and the hosts doubled the lead five minutes later when Djenepo spotted City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega off of his line and curled a stunning effort into the top corner. City, who have won the League Cup six times since 2014, failed to register a shot on target as the second-half introduction of substitutes Kevin de Bruyne and Erling Haaland failed to spark a revival for Pep Guardiola's side.

Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse told Sky Sports that his side played without fear and praised new manager Nathan Jones. "(It is) a special night. These games are special to play in especially when you're struggling in the league. We knew this was a distraction from the league and a great showcase. We showed no fear. "It's always tough when you're in the position we are. The manager has been excellent and has given us fresh ideas and new energy. He wanted us to be bold and aggressive. "We have been guilty in the past of having a result at halftime and dropping off. We showed a different part of our game. We thoroughly deserved the win."

City came into the game off the back of a 4-0 demolition of Chelsea in the FA Cup on Sunday but failed to replicate the free-scoring form. Manager Pep Guardiola named a strong side with Joao Cancelo, Jack Grealish, Ilkay Gundogan and Kalvin Phillips among the starters, yet apart from an early shot dragged wide by Gundogan they made little impression on the game.

It was Grealish who had made the error which led to the hosts' opening goal, giving away possession to Lycano who raced up the wing before providing the cross for Mara. Jones has failed to halt Southampton’s poor Premier League form since taking over in November, but has won all three of his team's games in cup competitions - against Lincoln City, Crystal Palace and now City.

Cristiano Ronaldo has joined Al-Nassr and regained the top spot in the list of highest-earning footballers. By moving to Saudi, the veteran footballer got hold of a staggering deal. The Portugal star has reportedly signed a deal worth more than 200 million euros with the Saudi Arabia-based club and will be earning another 200 million euros for his ambassadorial role to bring the 2030 FIFA World Cup to the country. Thus, it surely is a mammoth deal for the former Manchester United striker, who had an ordinary run in 2022 with a fallout with the Old Trafford club owners and management and Portugal's dismal run in the FIFA World Cup.

"Ronaldo will be paid more than 200 million euros ($214 million) for the deal. He will be an ambassador for the Saudi World Cup 2030 bid for another 200 million," a source was quoted as saying by AFP.

'It's a bit like Pele's arrival'

After his official entry into the Al-Nassr club, coach Rudi Garcia spoke highly of the Portugal captain. "It's a bit like Pele's arrival", Garcia told AFP. He added, "Cristiano Ronaldo is more than a player. He is one of the best players in the world. For the development of Saudi Arabia and the Middle East, it is very, very important. If today the Dakar is here, it brings home that in sports and cultural development, a country can do a lot. It's amazing how much it's put a spotlight on our club. Now everyone knows where our club is around the world. We must have gone from 800,000 (followers) to 10 million in a few hours, a few days, because of Cristiano's arrival."

It is to be noted that Ronaldo's debut for the Saudi-based club is much-awaited. His Al-Nassr unveiling got more views than the FIFA World Cup final, where Lionel Messi's Argentina beat France to win the championship, in Qatar, last December.

When will Ronaldo debut for Al-Nassr?

Ronaldo's much-awaited Al Nassr debut has been delayed following his two-match ban, which he received after smashing a fan's phone during his infamous second stint at Man United. He is, however, confirmed to debut for his new club on January 22 after missing their upcoming fixture on January 14.

He is, however, confirmed to debut for his new club on January 22 after missing their upcoming fixture on January 14.

Former Barcelona and Brazil defender Dani Alves is under investigation over an allegation that he sexually assaulted a woman in a nightclub in Spain last month, Catalonia's Supreme Court said on Tuesday. Alves denies any wrongdoing. The court in Barcelona said in a statement it had opened proceedings "for an alleged crime of sexual assault as a result of the complaint filed by a woman for events that allegedly occurred in a nightclub in Barcelona last month." The statement did not specifically name Alves but a court spokeswoman confirmed to Reuters that he was the subject of the complaint. She said the case was under investigation but the court had no more information.

Spanish media had reported that a woman had accused Alves of touching her beneath her underwear without her consent when she was with friends at a nightclub in late December 2022. A spokesperson for Alves, asked by Reuters for comment, said the player "vehemently denies" all allegations. Alves is currently in Mexico playing for Pumas UNAM. Alves told Antena 3 in an interview last week that he was at the club with other people but he denied any such behaviour.

"I was dancing and having a good time without invading anyone's space," he said. "I don’t know who this lady is...How could I do that to a woman? No." Full-back Alves became the oldest Brazilian to play in a World Cup match when he captained the team against Cameroon in Qatar earlier in December. He also holds the record for most career trophies with 43, counting club and international competitions.

Manchester United heaped the pressure on Everton boss Frank Lampard on Friday, overcoming a howler from goalkeeper David de Gea to win the FA Cup third-round tie 3-1.

Manchester United heaped the pressure on Everton boss Frank Lampard on Friday, overcoming a howler from goalkeeper David de Gea to win the FA Cup third-round tie 3-1. Everton travelled to Old Trafford in trepidation after slipping into the Premier League relegation zone this week following a chastening 4-1 home hammering at the hands of Brighton. But they made the worst possible start, with Brazil forward Antony scoring in just the fourth minute. They were level 10 minutes later after Conor Coady pounced on De Gea's embarrassing error but the Everton defender put the ball in his own net early in the second half to hand the initiative back to the home side. Marcus Rashford increased Manchester United's lead in the dying seconds, scoring from the penalty spot. United won the most recent of their 12 FA Cups in 2016 while Everton's win against United in the 1995 Wembley final was the last time they won a trophy. The Red Devils, hunting their first silverware since 2017 - are in fourth spot in the Premier League in Erik ten Hag's first season in charge and are through to the League Cup quarter-finals. The in-form team opened the scoring when the impressive Rashford surged down the left and into the penalty area before firing the ball across the box to the fast-arriving Antony. Moments later Anthony Martial flashed just wide and Everton appeared to be facing an arduous night. WATCH | Gravitas: The death of possession football? × De Gea error But Demarai Gray gave United a warning when he smashed a shot against the foot of the post from just outside the area and minutes later Everton were level in bizarre circumstances. Amadou Onana won the ball on the edge of the box and fed Neal Maupay, who steered the ball towards the near post. De Gea could have used his hands but the ball somehow squeezed through his legs as he clung to the post with one hand and Coady had the easiest of finishes. The mood of the match changed but United still looked dangerous on their forays forward, with Jordan Pickford denying Martial after a lightning counter-attack. Ten Hag urged the United fans to turn up the volume as he came out after half-time and they were quickly back in front, with Rashford once again playing a crucial role. United continued to probe for openings as fans taunted Lampard with chants of "you're getting sacked in the morning", with Bruno Fernandes testing Everton goalkeeper Pickford from distance. Everton, showing an admirable fighting spirit, had the ball in the net through substitute Dominic Calvert-Lewin but the goal was ruled out for an offside by VAR earlier in the move. Rashford added gloss to the scoreline from the spot after Alejandro Garnacho was brought down. WATCH WION LIVE HERE:

Saudi Arabia's first female international referee was appointed by FIFA on Thursday, less than a year after the conservative kingdom's national women's team made its debut. Anoud Al-Asmari's international badge is the latest in a series of steps in football by the oil-rich Saudis, who have lured 37-year-old great Cristiano Ronaldo to the Saudi Pro League and are mulling a World Cup co-hosting bid.

"I am happy to be the first Saudi female referee to receive the international badge in the history of Saudi sports," Asmari, one of eight Saudis on the international panel announced by the world body, told AFP. Asked how she would feel about officiating a men's game, Asmari, 34, said she wouldn't give it any thought until it was approved by the Saudi FA. Despite Saudi Arabia's renowned conservatism, opportunities have started to open up in women's sport, including a women's football league that started in November 2021.
