Qatar's Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani has come up with a much better final offer to remain in the bid and be a step ahead of his main rival, British petrochemicals billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe, in order to buy Manchester United as reported by The Times. It is to be noted that the Glazers, who currently own the Red Devils, put the club up for sale in November 2022.&nbsp;

It is reported that the new offer by Sheikh Jassim, on Tuesday, is closer to a whopping five billion pounds. In addition, the Qatari sheikh -- who is the chairman of one of his country's biggest banks; known as the Qatar Islamic Bank --&nbsp;is offering to buy 100 percent of the stakes. As per&nbsp;reports in the British media,&nbsp;the offer is surely a competitive one including&nbsp;clearing nearly 1 billion pounds worth of club debt along with also having a separate fund to revamp Old Trafford, the surrounding area and the club's Carrington training ground.

Man United in 2022/23 edition

Currently, Man United occupy the fourth spot in the overall standings in the ongoing 2022-23 Premier League edition. They have had a topsy-turvy ride in the entire season and will be desperate to finish in the top four, with three more games to play. They will next face Bournemouth -- on May 20 -- before closing their PL season facing Chelsea and Fulham, respectively. Apart from the EPL, they are also competing for&nbsp;the FA Cup title, versus Manchester City, with the final to be held on June 03.

The Erik Ten Hag-led Man United ended their trophy drought early this year, winning their first title since 2017, with a win in the Carabao Cup final. Thus, they will also like to emerge on top in the FA Cup final but have a challenging opposition in front of them.

Bengaluru FC Head Coach Simon Grayson hailed the Foundation Developmental League (RFDL) as an ideal opportunity for coaches to assess players who can rise up the ranks and make it to the senior squads of their respective clubs. The final&nbsp;of the second season of the RFDL will be held at the Reliance Corporate Park (RCP) in Navi Mumbai at 7 pm on Sunday. The Blues made it to the upcoming title-winning clash of RFDL after defeating ATK Mohun Bagan in a tense penalty shootout on Thursday.

Huidrom Thoi Singh, Bengaluru’s 19-year-old midfielder, got on the scoresheet in the semi-final and has been making waves in the tournament so far. He smashed a hat-trick in the National Group Stage against FC Goa as well and has hit the ground running in the National Championship straightaway as well. Interestingly, Thoi trained and travelled with the Bengaluru senior squad in the previous season of the Indian Super League (ISL) as well.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity for younger players to get more game-time, more experience, working with good coaches, playing competitive matches. It gives opportunities to some of the younger players in the I-League teams, state football association (SFA) clubs to test themselves along with the ISL clubs and also to some of the younger players who are thriving and striving to be professional players in the ISL over the coming years,” Grayson said on the eve of the RFDL final.

Bengaluru’s young forward Sivasakhti Narayanan scored six goals and notched three assists in the team’s run to the finals of ISL 2022-23. He won the ISL Emerging Player of the Year award and the player was actually a part of the BFC squad that won the inaugural season of the RFDL last year. Grayson cited his example, along with that of defender Naorem Roshan Singh and Namgyal Bhutia to encourage players make the move up to the first-team by showcasing their skills and proving their mettle in the RFDL.

“With the RFDL, it is also an opportunity for the head coach to see maybe who we can bring through the ranks, train with the first-team, give them some experience. In the last few years at BFC, we have seen Sivasakhti Narayanan, Naorem Roshan Singh and Namgyal Bhutia come through the league into the first-team squad and then star in the ISL,” Grayson signed off.

Lionel&nbsp;Messi&nbsp;will start Paris St Germain's Ligue 1 home game against AC Ajaccio on Saturday after returning to training following a club-imposed suspension, coach Christophe Galtier said on Friday. "I spoke with him on Tuesday to see what his mindset was and I found him very determined to play... He will start tomorrow," Galtier told a press conference.

Messi&nbsp;was back in training on Monday after being suspended for making an unauthorised trip to Saudi Arabia and missing a training session as a result. French media reported that&nbsp;Messi&nbsp;was suspended for two weeks after making the trip when he was supposed to train with the squad the day after the Ligue 1 leaders' 3-1 defeat to Lorient last month.

Messi&nbsp;apologised to PSG and his team mates last Friday and was left out of the squad for their 3-1 win at second-bottom Troyes two days later. PSG are six points clear of Lens and eight in front of third-placed Olympique de Marseille with four games remaining this season. Messi's future at PSG has been the subject of much speculation recently, with a source close to the Argentina captain telling Reuters that he had received a formal offer to join Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal next season.

The player's focus is on winning the French title, however, Galtier said. "He's very eager to win that title," the coach said. "With him in the team we'll have to adjust compared to what we did against Troyes. Leo is Leo. I'm not going to go into statistics but when he's with us we have to strike a different balance."

PSG's season has been well below expectations, having suffered early eliminations in the Champions League and the French Cup. Lens will move provisionally three points behind PSG if they beat Stade de Reims at home later on Friday. PSG have lost three of their last four home games.

Sergio Busquets will leave&nbsp;Barcelona&nbsp;in June at the end of his contract, the midfielder confirmed Wednesday, ending a highly successful era at the club.

"The moment has arrived to announce this is my last season at&nbsp;Barcelona," said Busquets on Instagram.

"It has been an unforgettable journey."

Busquets has won the Champions League three times with&nbsp;Barcelona&nbsp;and La Liga on eight occasions before this season, with the Catalans set to triumph again for the first time in four years.

The 34-year-old has been a key player for Barca since breaking into the first team under their former coach Pep Guardiola in 2008, making over 700 appearances to date.

He did not say where he might go next, with Spanish reports suggesting he may move to a team in Saudi Arabia.

"It has been an honour, a dream, a pride. It has been everything to be able to defend and represent this badge for so many years, but everything has a beginning and an end," continued Busquets.

"Although it has not been an easy decision, I think the time has come."

Barcelona&nbsp;coach Xavi Hernandez, who played with Busquets in the team's midfield for several years, wanted the midfielder to stay next season, but said the decision was up to him.

The veteran has long been thought to favour a move to Major League Soccer in the United States at the end of his&nbsp;Barcelona&nbsp;contract, with Inter Miami one of the teams mentioned.

However in recent days the player has been linked in Spanish media with a move to the Saudi Arabian top flight.

Former&nbsp;Barcelona&nbsp;forward Lionel Messi, a close friend of Busquets, is another player who may end up in the oil-rich kingdom after sources close to negotiations told AFP it was a "done deal" for the Argentine forward to move to the Middle East.

However Messi's father and agent Jorge Messi said Tuesday that the World Cup winner's future would only be decided at the end of the season.

Busquets won the World Cup with Spain in 2010 and the European Championship in 2012, a key fixture in the national team for nearly 15 years until he retired from international duty in December.

Cristiano Ronaldo-starrer Al-Nassr missed out on a chance to take the top spot in the Saudi Pro League&nbsp;with a 1-1 draw versus 14th-ranked Al-Khaleej on Monday (May 08). This isn't the first time that Ronaldo has grabbed eyeballs for his on-field behaviour during his stint at the Riyadh-based club. He has time and again caught everyone's attention for showing his frustration on fans, Al-Nassr&nbsp;support staff, etc.&nbsp;

Napoli finally ended their long wait to win Italy's Serie A on Thursday after a 1-1 draw at Udinese secured their third league title with a record-equalling five games to play.

Thousands of fans in Udine, at the Stadio Maradona in Naples and all around southern Italy's biggest city exploded with joy at the final whistle as 33 years of waiting came to an end.

Supporters streamed onto the pitch at the Dacia Arena to celebrate after a season dominated by Luciano Spalletti's side, creating moments of tension with home fans not happy at such open partying on their ground.

Victor Osimhen scored the decisive goal in the second half as Napoli's current stars came back from trailing to Sandi Lovric's opener at half-time and emulated the teams led by Diego Maradona which won the league in 1987 and 1990.

Spalletti and his squad will receive an emotional welcome when they return to Naples, where the partying is set to continue to until at least their next home fixture against Fiorentina on Sunday evening.

"Seeing Neapolitans happy is enough to give you a sense of that joy they are feeling," Spalletti told DAZN on the verge of tears.

"These people will look to this moment when life gets hard, they have every right to celebrate like this. You feel a bit more relaxed knowing that you've given them this moment of happiness."

It was appropriate that Osimhen was the man to take Napoli over the line as the Nigeria striker has had the best season of his career and been key to Napoli's historic charge to glory.

Osimhen's title-deciding strike was his 22nd goal in 28 league appearances and rightly caused bedlam among the massed ranks of away fans who took over Udine.

Napoli's 16-point lead over second-placed Lazio leaves them with a month-long parade between now and the end of the season which will allow their long-suffering supporters to fully unload more than a generation of frustration.

Osimhen seals deal

Napoli were straight on the front foot but as on Sunday looked worryingly bereft of ideas in the final third, and the away side were stunned in the 13th minute following the first spell of play in Udinese's favour.

Lovric was given the freedom of the penalty area after being fed by Destiny Udogie, and the Slovenia midfielder took advantage by placing a lovely shot in the top corner.

Lovric stung the fingers of former Udine youth product Alex Meret in the Napoli goal just after the half-hour mark, by which point Napoli hadn't created a single goalscoring opportunity.

Seconds later Osimhen, who looked like Napoli's only hope of scoring in the opening period, headed a deep cross just the wrong side of the post.

And in the 52nd minute, the 24-year-old stepped up as so often he has this season to unleash a wave of relief and blue smoke from the stands with his 27th goal in all competitions.

Osimhen was on hand to ram home the leveller when, after a corner, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia's low shot was blocked and fell to the clinical striker.

He had the ball in the net again in the 67th minute but was denied by referee Rosario Abisso who rightly whistled for a foul by Eljif Elmas.

But by that point the fans grew ever more sure that Thursday night would be the night, chanting victory songs in Udine while flares billowed and fireworks were set off at the other end of the country.

While fans had to be cleared from the pitch in Udine to avoid clashes with home supporters the Stadio Maradona was lit up by phones held by teary-eyed Neapolitans singing along to songs by late local singer-songwriter Pino Daniele.

Paris St Germain forward Lionel Messi will not have his contract renewed at the club following an unauthorised trip to Saudi Arabia, French sports daily L'Equipe reported on Tuesday (May 2).

Messi signed an optional third-season clause in his contract when he first arrived in 2021. Club officials have decided not to activate it, the report said.

The 35-year-old was suspended for two weeks on Tuesday, L'Equipe added, as he was supposed to practice with his team following a 3-1 defeat at home against Lorient in Ligue 1 on Sunday but instead flew to Saudi Arabia.

Jordi Alba struck a late winner for Barcelona in a 1-0 win over 10-man Osasuna on Tuesday to move the Catalans a step closer to their first La Liga title since 2019.

Xavi Hernandez's side climbed 14 points clear of second place Real Madrid, who lost 2-0 at Real Sociedad.

The visitors had debutant Jorge Herrando sent off in the first half for a professional foul on Pedri, as they sat deep and tried to frustrate hosts Barcelona.

Visiting goalkeeper Aitor Fernandez kept the leaders at bay in the second half but eventually substitute Alba, who has had reduced minutes this season, sliced home a volley to snatch a late victory.

"We're going to wait and see, but it's a giant step forward," said Xavi.

"We suffered too much. We missed some very clear chances, the kind where you can just push it in.

"And then came Jordi's goal, which sometimes makes it better to win like that."

Osasuna coach Jagoba Arrasate rotated heavily to rest players ahead of the Copa del Rey final against Madrid on Saturday, while Barca started with the same side which crushed Real Betis at the weekend.

The Catalans failed to carve out many clear opportunities in the first half against their defensive opponents.

The best chance fell to Pedri after left-back Alejandro Balde found him a few yards out from goal but he did not connect with the ball well, scuffing a shot wide.

Osasuna were reduced to 10 men before the half hour mark when Herrando pulled down Pedri as he ran in on goal.

Xavi brought on Ansu Fati after 35 minutes for Gavi, who appeared to take a knock, and the forward came close at the start of the second half but Fernandez denied him.

<h2>String of saves</h2>

Frenkie de Jong should have sent Barcelona ahead but fired straight at the goalkeeper from six yards out when Pedri found him.

Barcelona's frustration grew when Fernandez saved from Fati again and substitute Ousmane Dembele sent a shot wide from close range.

La Liga's top scorer Robert Lewandowski had another quiet night at the office. When the Polish forward did find the net it was ruled out for offside.

Eventually the breakthrough came with five minutes to go, with substitute Alba volleying home his second goal of the season after De Jong headed the ball into his path, sparking vigorous celebrations.

If Barcelona earn two more points from their last five games, they will be champions.

<h2>Madrid beaten</h2>

Former Madrid winger Takefusa Kubo and Ander Barrenetxea netted the goals for Real Sociedad against Los Blancos, tightening their grip on fourth spot and Champions League qualification.

Madrid defender Dani Carvajal was sent off after an hour for a second yellow card to make matters worse for Los Blancos, who face Osasuna in the Copa del Rey final on Saturday.

"It's not the best way to prepare for games," said Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti.

"A defeat always hurts, it lowers your dynamic, the good feelings, so it's not the best way to prepare for what's to come.

"In the players' heads obviously is more, the Copa final, the Champions League semi-finals, that has an effect.&nbsp;

"When you don't have good concentration, you end up giving away gifts."

The Italian played a makeshift side because of injuries and suspensions, and he also left striker Karim Benzema behind in the Madrid capital ahead of Saturday's cup finale.

Kubo struck at the start of the second half for the hosts after Eder Militao gave the ball away in a dangerous area.&nbsp;

Carvajal was dismissed for a foul on Real Sociedad forward Mikel Oyarzabal, giving Madrid an uphill struggle.

Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois did well to parry a deflected Barrenetxea strike, but he could not keep out the forward's next effort, surprising the Belgian at his near post.

If third place Atletico Madrid beat Cadiz on Wednesday, they can move second.

Real Sociedad are eight points clear of fifth-place Villarreal, who have played one fewer game.

Bottom-of-the-table Elche were relegated after a 2-1 defeat at Almeria.

La Liga: Barcelona inch closer to first title since 2019 with 1-0 win over Osasuna

Europe's top soccer nations face a broadcast blackout for this year's Women's World Cup unless media can improve on their "disappointing" offers for the rights, FIFA President Gianni Infantino said.

Offers from "Big 5" European countries were not acceptable to football's world governing body and a "slap in the face" of the players and "all women worldwide", Infantino said.

The 'Big 5' nations are Britain, Spain, Italy, Germany and France.

"To be very clear, it is our moral and legal obligation not to undersell the FIFA Women’s World Cup," Infantino said at a World Trade Organization meeting in Geneva.

"Therefore, should the offers continue not to be fair, we will be forced not to broadcast the FIFA Women's World Cup into the 'Big 5' European countries."

The World Cup, being co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand, starts on July 20.

Infantino said broadcasters had offered only $1 million-$10 million for the rights, compared to $100 million-$200 million for rights to the men's World Cup.

Due to the time-zone difference, Women's World Cup matches will be held outside prime-time viewing hours for European markets but Infantino said that was no excuse.

"Maybe ... it’s not played on prime-time in Europe, but still, it is played at 9 a.m. or 10 a.m., so it is quite a reasonable time," he said.

Some 1.12 billion viewers tuned into the 2019 Women's World Cup in France across all platforms, according to a FIFA audit of the tournament.

Football: FIFA warns of Women's World Cup broadcast blackout in Europe amid disappointing offers for rights

Andreas Christensen, Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha were on target as Barcelona thrashed 10-man Real Betis 4-0 on Saturday to tighten their grip on top spot and moved a step closer to their 27th La Liga title.

With only six games remaining, Barca recovered from a disappointing midweek loss at Rayo Vallecano and moved to 79 points and extended their lead to 11 points over second-placed Real Madrid, while Betis remain sixth on 49 points.

Christensen opened the scoring for Barcelona in the 14th minute with a point-blank header following a cross from Raphinha. Barca's job was made easier by Betis defender Edgar Gonzalez, who came off the bench in the 12th minute to replace an injured Luiz Felipe but was sent off 21 minutes later after seeing two yellow cards for two bad tackles.

The locals made the most of their advantage before the break, scoring twice within three minutes thanks to strikes by Lewandowski and Raphinha. La Liga top scorer Lewandowski increased his haul to 19 for the season with a first-touch shot from inside the box assisted by Jules Kounde in the 36th minute.

Raphinha had to wait a couple of minutes to celebrate scoring Barca's third as the assistant referee had initially ruled out his effort for offside before the decision was overturned following a VAR replay. "It's always fine to score and assist, but I think I can always do better," Raphinha told Movistar Plus. "The last game was very tough, we needed to respond, and winning by a large margin was important to have more confidence.

"(Manager) Xavi (Hernandez) warned us and we know what we can do and what we lacked against Rayo. We needed a little more attitude, needed to stay with the ball, and if we want to win the league it has to be like that in every game."

Barca took their foot off the pedal after the break, comfortable with seeing out the game, but managed to extend their lead thanks to an own-goal by defender Guido Rodriguez, who scored while trying to clear an Ansu Fati cross in the six-yard-box.

With the win secured, 15-year-old winger Lamine Yamal became Barca's youngest-ever debutant when he was brought off the bench by coach Xavi.

La Liga: Barcelona edge closer to title with 4-0 demolition over 10-man Real Betis

In the La Liga battle between Real Madrid and Girona, Valetin Taty Castellanos made heads turn as he found the back of the net on four instances. His&nbsp;incredible four goals helped Girona&nbsp;thrash&nbsp;champions Real Madrid 4-2 in the&nbsp;La Liga fixture, on Tuesday (April 25), and brought&nbsp;table-toppers&nbsp;Barcelona&nbsp;closer to the trophy.

Castellanos was over the moon following his memorable run versus Madrid. After the game, he opined, "It was a dream night, we had a great game against one of the best teams in the world, it was a dream night."

"I never imagined this, (I'm) enjoying it with our fans, with the people who have sent me support -- my family, people in Argentina, they are always supporting me and that's fundamental," he added.

Who is Valentin Taty&nbsp;Castellanos? All you need to know about the Argentine youngster

The divorce proceedings between Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) striker Achraf Hakimi and actress&nbsp;Hiba Abouk took a shocking turn when the latter discovered that the former Real Madrid footballer's entire fortune was in his mother's name. After the footballer was accused&nbsp;of sexually abusing a young girl in Paris, Abouk decided to end the relationship and asked for a divorce settlement. However, with his fortune being in his mother's name, Abouk was completely taken aback.

Despite this shocking twist, Abouk's&nbsp;legal team has demanded a whopping&nbsp;10 million euros as opposed to Hakimi's offer of only two million.&nbsp; As per&nbsp;La Vanguardia, the actress has also decided to file a lawsuit against the PSG star&nbsp;for fraud and mismanagement of their marital assets. Thus, the divorce case between Hakimi and Abouk continues to become uglier with each passing day.

What did Hakimi's mother say?

"My son did not inform me of the transfer of his fortune. If he has taken any action to protect himself, I have no knowledge of it,"&nbsp;Hakimi's mother&nbsp;stated as quoted by Marca. "But... what is the problem if it were true? If my son doesn't do that, he won't be able to get rid of that woman," she added.

On the other hand, Abouk also opened up on her divorce case&nbsp;in an interview to Elle magazine.&nbsp;

The actress said, "There are days when I'm fine and others when you have to know how to deal with the blows and make decisions that are sometimes complicated. That can throw you off balance a bit. When you separate, you restructure your life, although it's no big deal either and you must take the pressure off."

She added, "I left home with one hand in front and one hand behind. Without the support of my family. But I had to do it, because my environment was not going to allow me to grow or to be free. It was either my life or theirs, and I decided to fight for myself. I have zero attachment to material things."

Cristiano Ronaldo's stint at Al-Nassr continues to make heads turn. While he has been on a goal-scoring spree for the Riyadh-based club, the Portugal star didn't have a great outing in his side's clash versus Al-Halil&nbsp;at the King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh early this month. While his side lost 2-0, Ronaldo was slammed for his WWE-inspired&nbsp;foul.

Ronaldo&nbsp;was&nbsp;found guilty of hauling Al-Halil's Gustavo Cuellar to the ground in a headlock and, surprisingly,&nbsp;escaped with a yellow card. After the team's loss, the rival fans tried to get under the skin of Ronaldo. They even chanted Lionel Messi's name to tease the Portuguese striker. While walking down the tunnel, it appeared as if&nbsp;Ronaldo&nbsp;grabbed his crotch and pointed it&nbsp;towards the fans.&nbsp;

Sharing the video, a Saudi lawyer has called for Ronaldo's deportation from the country for his indecent gesture for the Al-Halil fans.&nbsp;

Romelu Lukaku shot Inter Milan to a 3-0 win over struggling Empoli on Sunday with his first Serie A goal&nbsp;from open play since the opening day of what has been a difficult return season in Italy.

Belgium striker Lukaku netted two fine low finishes in the second half at the Stadio Castellani to help Inter to their first win in Italy's top flight since early March and move them above AC Milan into fifth, two points from the last Champions League place currently held by Roma.

He struck his first from the edge of the area two minutes after the break following a quick exchange of passes with Marcelo Brozovic and doubled Inter's lead in the 76th minute by bursting past Ardian Ismajli and rifling home an angled drive.

The 29-year-old, who also laid on Lautaro Martinez's late goal, took his league tally since returning to Inter on loan from Chelsea to just five with Sunday's brace.

Lukaku has struggled with injuries for large chunks of the campaign, which started back in mid-August with a goal less than two minutes into Inter's opening fixture at Lecce.

"This season has been a very complicated one," Lukaku told Sky Sport.

"We're doing good work with the trainers... it's the first time that I've had such a serious injury, but now I feel more confident with those type of movements."

Inter beat Empoli with a changed line-up from the one which secured a Milan derby Champions League semi-final on Wednesday.

They are also in a battle with their local rivals for qualification to next year's edition of Europe's top club competition.

<h2>'A step forward'</h2>

Simone Inzaghi's side -- who have lost 11 times in Serie A this season -- began the day in sixth after Juventus were given back on Thursday the 15 points deducted from them in January for illicit transfer activity.

However Juve, who host runaway league leaders Napoli later on Sunday with a chance to go second following Lazio's home defeat by Torino on Saturday, have to await a new ruling from the Italian Football Federation's (FIGC) appeals court to see if they will be handed a new points penalty.

Inter will host Juve in the second leg of their Italian Cup semi-final on Wednesday, a match which Lukaku will be allowed to play after his suspension for being sent off in the first leg was revoked.

On Saturday the FIGC removed the ban -- which had been initially upheld on appeal -- as Lukaku had been dismissed following goal celebrations in front of Juve fans who had racially abused him while he took the late penalty which levelled the tie at 1-1.

"I want to thank the president of the FIGC for giving me the opportunity to play that match," added Lukaku.

"That pardon is a step forward for Italian football, all I want to do now is rest and prepare for that match."

Empoli beat Inter at the San Siro earlier this season but offered very little in Tuscany, and Paolo Zanetti's side are now only six points above the relegation zone after one win in their last 11 matches.

Serie A: Lukaku's two goals help Inter Milan get first win since early March

Mutsuhiko Nomura's soccer career has spanned 18 World Cups, or 70 years, to be exact. Now the silver-maned former&nbsp;Japanese national team player is a member of the brand new over-80 division of Tokyo's "Soccer For Life" (SFL) league, which played its first match this month. The sprightly 83-year-old and his teammates are among a growing number of seniors pushing the boundaries of active living in&nbsp;Japan, one of the world's fastest-greying societies.

"When I was a kid, men in their 50s and 60s were considered 'grandpas'," Nomura, already a member of several amateur teams, said after a pre-season practice match in February. "And now, we're all still at it in our 80s. It's shocking."&nbsp; As&nbsp;Japan's average lifespan inches up, people aged 65 and more form nearly a third of its population of 126 million, with life expectancy, now at 85, ranking among the world's highest.

That has brought societal changes, too: about a fifth of those older than 70 are employed, and the government encourages pensioners to start collecting later, by holding out the promise of larger deferred payments. Elderly security guards and shopkeepers have become a common sight.

"I think the formation of the 0-80 division is a reflection of what we're seeing in&nbsp;Japanese society, where the elderly demographic can be active like this," said Yutaka Ito, the secretary general of the SFL league. It was only two decades ago that Tokyo created a division for the 0-60 age group. In 2012, the 0-70 division followed, and five years later, the 0-75 category. At that rate, 0-80 was simply a matter of time.

ROLE MODEL

If his more "mature" teammates are something to go by, Nomura may easily have another decade on the pitch: the oldest player, Shingo Shiozawa, is 93. "If I hadn't played soccer, I'd have been dead by now," said the former designer of racing cars, who plays goalie. He credits the sport with motivating him to quit smoking and helping to speed his recovery after treatment for spinal stenosis. With an average age of 83-1/2, however, stiff backs, creaky knees and laboured breathing were often on display as the players of the three SFL teams slogged through inaugural matches under a blazing sun last Wednesday.

A ball propelled forward by a player failed to reach his slow-moving teammate, while a few stumbled and wobbled on the pitch. An 89-year-old who ran out of breath asked to be substituted about 10 minutes into a match, unable to play the rest of the 15-minute half. After the game, Nomura and his teammates toasted their prowess with cans of beer, in a ritual familiar to many younger players.

Despite decades of watching Nomura play soccer, his wife, Junko, says she's not concerned about injuries - only his high blood pressure, which she logs everyday in a notebook, along with his activities and meals. "He likes to eat meat, so I try to get him to eat vegetables," she said of Nomura, who started playing soccer in middle school and won the national tournament three times in university. "I think soccer is the best thing for his health."

Far from slowing down, Nomura has also taken to kicking the ball around with his daughter and grand-daughter on weekends, teaching them tricks and building their love of the game. "I sometimes go to watch the seniors play, and it makes me feel I should work hard," said his 48-year-old daughter, Yuriko. "I really admire him. I hope to be like him, and continue playing when I'm older."

Football: Japanese seniors get a kick out of over-80s soccer league

The United States and Mexico will bid to co-host the 2027 Women's World Cup, the football federations from the two countries said on Wednesday. US Soccer and the Mexican Football Federation (MFF) announced their plans one month before a May 19 deadline set by FIFA for hopeful host nations to formally submit bids.

The United States has hosted the Women's World Cup twice before, in 1999 and 2003, while Mexico has never held the tournament. If successful, the tournament would take place one year after the 2026 men's World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Al Nassr locked horns with Al-Hilal in a crucial tie in the Saudi Pro League at the King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh. In a vital face-off, Cristiano Ronaldo-led club went down 2-0 while the skipper had a forgettable outing as he made heads turn with a WWE-inspired foul.&nbsp;

Rodrygo scored twice as Real Madrid cruised into the Champions League semi-finals on Tuesday, completing an emphatic 4-0 aggregate win against Chelsea that ends a disastrous season for the London club.

The home team, with Frank Lampard back in the dugout for a second spell, came into the match at Stamford Bridge with form and history against them.

They started brightly but rued a number of huge missed chances that would have heaped pressure on the defending champions.

The Spanish giants made Chelsea pay for their profligacy when Rodrygo scored in the 58th minute after a speedy counter-attack and he made it 2-0 with 10 minutes to go.

"We suffered a lot and helped us stay at 0-0 at the end of the first half," Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti told BT Sport.&nbsp;

"Second half we were much better and scored the two goals. We are happy to have qualified."

Chelsea, the 2021 European champions, have now lost all four of their matches since Lampard returned to the club as caretaker boss earlier this month in place of the sacked Graham Potter.

Lampard, who also managed the club from 2019 until early 2021, bemoaned his team's profligacy.

"We played really well for 60 minutes," he said. "We created chances but you have to take them."

The former Chelsea midfielder said his men must find motivation from playing for the club as they contemplate a bleak final few weeks of the season.

"You're playing for Chelsea," he said. "So regardless, every game you play you have to give everything. I won't let anyone off the hook and we have to show. That standard cannot drop."

Ancelotti stuck with the same team that won the first leg 2-0 last week while Chelsea caretaker boss Lampard restored Reece James, Mateo Kovacic and N'Golo Kante to his line-up.

Roared on by an expectant crowd despite their current woes, the home side made a good start against the 14-time winners.

<h2>Chances</h2>

They had a glorious chance to take the lead but Kante skewed his left-foot shot wide from about 12 yards.

The visitors, content to bide their time, looked sharp on the break.

Midway through the opening period Rodrygo created space for himself and thumped an effort against the outside of the post from an acute angle while Luka Modric tested Kepa.

But Chelsea should have been ahead on the stroke of half-time when James fizzed a ball across the box from the right and it fell to Marc Cucurella at the back post.

The defender took a touch and shot but Thibaut Courtois came flying out of his goal to save.

Kante had another golden opportunity to take the lead early in the second half but his close-range effort hit Eder Militao and deflected away to safety.

Real took the wind out of Chelsea's sails with just over half an hour to go, when Rodrygo&nbsp;scored from close range after an assist by Vinicius Junior.

Lampard made a number of attacking substitutions, bringing on Raheem Sterling, Joao Felix and Mykhailo Mudryk in a desperate bid to get back into the match.

But Rodrygo found the net again in the 80th minute, tapping home after a clever assist from Federico Valverde.

Real Madrid will likely play Manchester City in the semi-finals, with Pep Guardiola's team 3-0 up against Bayern Munich after the first leg of their last-eight tie.

Former Chelsea boss Ancelotti is chasing a record-extending fifth win as a coach in the tournament.

But Chelsea, used to winning silverware over the past two decades, are contemplating the final stretch of a horrendous campaign despite a staggering spend of more than £500 million ($621 million) in the first year of the club's new ownership.

Trophyless this season, they are languishing in 11th in the Premier League and look unlikely to qualify for European football next season.

Champions League: Real Madrid brush aside Chelsea 4-0 to enter semis

Marcus Rashford has returned to training for Manchester United, giving the club a major boost ahead of the second leg of their Europa League quarter-final against Sevilla on Thursday. The England international, who has scored a career-high 28 goals this season, suffered a groin strain in a 2-0 win over Everton on April 8.

United said last week that Rashford would likely be absent for a "few games" but he could make a timely return in Spain, with Erik ten Hag's men in the hunt for a treble of cup competitions. The tie is finely balanced at 2-2 after two late own goals conceded by United in the first leg at Old Trafford. Luke Shaw and Marcel Sabitzer also took part in training on Wednesday to ease the Red Devils' injury crisis.

First-choice centre-backs Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane are unavailable after picking up injuries in the first leg. Bruno Fernandes is suspended, while Donny van de Beek and Alejandro Garnacho also remain sidelined by injury.

Argentina will host the Under-20 World Cup from May 20 to June 11, FIFA said Monday, after taking the tournament from Indonesia just weeks before kick-off.

Having been awarded hosting rights, Argentina will also participate in Indonesia's place. The team had failed to qualify on merit.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s Saudi club&nbsp;Al-Nassr&nbsp;fired coach Rudi Garcia on Thursday after less than a year in charge following media reports of dressing room tensions and just days before a crucial&nbsp;game against champions&nbsp;Al-Hilal.

Garcia, the former AS Roma and Olympique de Marseille coach, criticised the players after they drew 0-0 with lowly&nbsp;Al&nbsp;Feiha last Sunday in another blow to their hopes of a first league title since 2019, saying: "The result is bad. I don't feel satisfied with the players".

Local&nbsp;media reported that Garcia's relationship with the players prompted the club to dismiss him, as well as dissatisfaction with his style of play.

Inter Milan put one foot into the Champions League semi-finals with a comfortable 2-0 win at Benfica on Tuesday, with Nicolo Barella and Romelu Lukaku netting in Lisbon.

The Italians, three-time winners, took a commanding quarter-final first leg lead at the Estadio da Luz, inflicting Benfica's first defeat in the competition.

After an even first half, Barella headed home from Alessandro Bastoni's cross and substitute Romelu Lukaku netted the second from the penalty spot late on.

Roger Schmidt's Benfica, aiming to reach the semi-finals for the first time since 1990, were not able to put a glove on the visitors, who controlled the pace of the game.

Despite Inter's poor form, they conjured a patient, professional display when they needed it most.

Having scored two goals in their previous five games across all competitions, they managed the same tally in Lisbon with clinical finishing.

"It's been one of our best games this season," Inter midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan told British broadcaster BT Sport.

"We were dominating all over the pitch. We were doubling up and were everywhere, helping each other and we got (rewarded) for it. We've done a great job.

"But it's still not over, we still have to face them in a week and we know it's not going to be easy."

Neither side was able to create clear chances in a tight opening period.

The closest Benfica came was Andre Onana blocking a Rafa Silva drive after Federico Dimarco accidentally headed the ball into his path in the box.

Inter Milan defender Francesco Acerbi hammered over from 30 yards at the other end.

The Italians had the opportunity to hit the hosts on the break after half an hour, but Lautaro Martinez played a poor pass which was blocked, with 37-year-old target man Edin Dzeko alone in space.

Alex Grimaldo smashed an effort wide from distance, with Benfica frustrated and unable to get striker Goncalo Ramos involved.

With Inter pressing high up the pitch, the Eagles could not hit their flowing best, or anything close to it.

<h2>Impressive Inter</h2>

Inter Milan broke the deadlock early in the second half when Barella headed Bastoni's looping cross back across goal and into the bottom corner.

The goal crowned a superb performance from the Italy international, while Inter's defence kept a sixth clean sheet in nine Champions League matches this season.

Schmidt sent on David Neres for midfielder Florentino in search of the equaliser, but Inter doubled their lead with eight minutes remaining.

Joao Mario, one of Benfica's best players this season, handled Denzel Dumfries's cross, gifting his former side a penalty.&nbsp;

Lukaku drilled it beyond the reach of Greek goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos, answering some criticism of his recent form.

Coach Simone Inzaghi had selected Dzeko ahead of Lukaku after the Belgian had missed gilt-edged chances in recent weeks, but he did not miss in a high-pressure moment.

Benfica might have pulled a goal back deep in stoppage time but Onana made a fine save to deny Ramos, who seemed poised to score.

"I said that we had to come here and play without fear because we could win -- we did just that," Onana told UEFA.

"But we cannot think that we are already in the semi-final because we are not. We still need another great game like today's next week."

The victory gives Inter a fine chance of setting up an all-Italian semi-final against Serie A leaders Napoli or city rivals AC Milan.

Inter, who beat another Portuguese side, Porto, in the last 16, host Benfica on Wednesday April 19 at the San Siro in the second leg.

Benfica defender Antonio Silva said he believes his team can go to Milan and score three to produce a comeback.

"We deserved more and we had the opportunity for it, the fair result was a draw," Silva told Portuguese broadcaster Eleven.

"This is the first part of the tie. We are going to do everything we can in Milan and we have to score at least three goals to win and go through."

Champions League: Inter down Benfica 2-0 to put one foot into semis

Forward Kylian&nbsp;Mbappe&nbsp;has criticised Paris St Germain after they used him in a video to promote season ticket sales, without informing him how the interview would be used. The video released by PSG on Wednesday features snippets from an interview with&nbsp;Mbappe, in which he talks about the club and its supporters. It links to the ticketing section on the club's website.

"I've just taken part in the season ticketing campaign of the club for 2023-24,"&nbsp;Mbappe&nbsp;said on social media. "At no moment was I informed of the content of the interview... It looked like a basic interview at a club marketing day. "I do not agree with the video that was published. This is why I am fighting for individual image rights. PSG is a great club and a great family, but it is certainly not Kylian Saint-Germain."

PSG did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment. Last year, ESPN reported that&nbsp;Mbappe&nbsp;refused to participate in a team photo and sponsor activities for the France national team.

At the time, the striker said his image rights dispute with the French Football Federation (FFF) was a "collective move" to help fellow team mates, with the FFF saying it would review its agreement on players' image rights.

Just over two years after being sacked by Chelsea, Frank Lampard is back at Stamford Bridge. He has been appointed as the Blues' caretaker manager until the end of the season. Lampard was at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night to watch Chelsea's goalless draw against Liverpool, just 48 hours after Graham Potter was sacked. The 44-year-old will be in charge for Saturday's game against Wolverhampton Wanderers. Chelsea are 11th in the Premier League, and any hopes of qualifying for Europe are all but over. Lampard, who is the club's record goal scorer, was first appointed Chelsea manager in 2019. He had an encouraging first season and led the Blues to a top-four finish, but a poor string of results in the subsequent season saw him get fired in January 2021. He was replaced by Thomas Tuchel, who went on to win the Champions League with the London-based club. Lampard took over at Everton last year but was let go by the Merseyside club in January this year.

Barcelona on Monday called on La Liga president Javier Tebas to quit over "false" accusations allegedly made by him concerning their referee corruption case.

The Spanish giants made the demand after a newspaper claimed Tebas had written to the Spanish public prosecutor accusing two former Barca presidents of wrongdoing.

Last month the Catalan club was charged with corruption after payments of more than 7.3 million euros ($7.8 million) to a company owned by a former refereeing chief were uncovered.

In a statement following La Vanguardia's report Barcelona claimed Tebas "presented false proof" to the public prosecutor "to incriminate our club".

"FC Barcelona wants to express its deep anger, indignation and disgust," the statement read.

It went on to demand that Tebas "appears in public to provide answers", adding "for the dignity and respect of the presidency of La Liga Mr Tebas should resign".

Tebas in response denied "accusing anyone" in a post on social media.

Last month the club said they paid Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira, the former referee and ex-vice president of the refereeing committee of the Spanish football federation (CTA) between 1994 and 2018, for reports and advice related to refereeing.

In Monday's statement a bruised Barcelona claimed they were the victims "of a media lynching for something that never happened - Barca have never bought off referees".

As well as the club and Enriquez Negreira, two of the club's former presidents, Josep Maria Bartomeu and Sandro Rosell, are facing the same charge of corruption.

Barcelona calls on La Liga president Javier Tebas to quit over corruption saga

Five-time English Premier League champions Chelsea sacked manager Graham Potter after less than seven months in charge following their 0-2 home defeat against Aston Villa on Saturday. It was the Englishman's 11th defeat in 31 games since replacing Thomas Tuchel at Stamford Bridge on September 8. The Blues have dropped to 11th in the Premier League, 12 points adrift of the top four - having spent more than $600 million on new players this season. Former Brighton defender Bruno Saltor has been put in interim charge while the search for Potter’s replacement is underway. Chelsea's wishlist includes former Tottenham Hotspur and Paris Saint-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino, Eintracht Frankfurt manager Oliver Glasner and Sporting Lisbon boss Rúben Amorim, who is building a strong reputation in the Portuguese Primeira Liga. However, Julian Nagelsmann, sacked a week ago as Bayern Munich boss, has been installed as the favourite to replace Potter. Zinedine Zidane, who has been without a job since leaving Real Madrid for the second time in May 2021, is also one of the names doing the rounds at Stamford Bridge. There have now been 13 managerial changes in the Premier League this season, three more than in any other previous campaign, with Leicester City also sacking Brendan Rodgers earlier on Sunday.
