After the contest had been truncated to 34 overs per team due to morning rain, Livingstone savaged an unbeaten 95 to push England to a reasonable score. While the pose is supposed to be relaxing, a couple who was walking their dog outside the building believed it was some sort of “ritual mass killing,” and called the police, Laws told the Post.&nbsp;

The Seascape cafe took to their Facebook page and said, “If anyone heard the mass of police sirens in Chapel St Leonards at 9:30 pm (local time) last night then please be reassured….”

“They were on their way to the observatory after someone had reported a mass killing in our building. Having seen several people lying on the floor.”&nbsp;

Lincolnshire police confirmed to the PA news agency that the call was made at 9:00 pm (local time) “with good intentions.”

The announcement has reportedly left the institutes scrambling to make arrangements to continue teaching as an order by the United Kingdom government was issued days before the start of the autumn term.&nbsp;

<h2>What did the UK government say?</h2>

The announcement was made by the UK Education Secretary Gillian Keegan, on Thursday (August 31) who said that the affected schools would contact parents directly and that “If you don't hear, don’t worry.”&nbsp;

However, she did not mention when the list of affected schools will be published, prompting criticism from the opposition Labour Party. Additionally, the teaching unions also slammed the government for the back-to-school chaos and called it “nothing short of a scandal”.&nbsp;

Keegan told reporters that as many as 156 school buildings have been identified as containing Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete or RAAC. Notably, there are more than 20,000 schools in England.

The education secretary said 104 schools or “settings” require urgent action while 52 have already received repair works. The Department for Education (DfE) has also noted that a vast majority of schools and colleges “will be unaffected”.&nbsp;

“We’re taking a very safety-first approach and we’re really being cautious here,” said the UK education secretary.&nbsp;

<h2>What is RAAC?</h2>

The RAAC is essentially a lightweight form of concrete which according to the UK government’s website was used to build roofs, schools, colleges and other buildings from the 1950s until the mid-1990s, but has since been found to be at risk of collapse.

It has also been described as “80 per cent air” and is said to have a lifespan of around 30 years. The UK government’s announcement also comes months after a report by the watchdog National Audit Office (NAO) noted the risk of injury or death from a school building collapse is “very likely”.&nbsp;

It also highlighted concerns for school buildings that still contained RAAC and identified 572 schools where this concrete might be present.&nbsp;

The DfE said it sent a questionnaire to schools in 2022 asking if they had any confirmed or suspected cases of RAAC in their buildings and sent DfE-commissioned engineers to check if the institutes provided a positive response.&nbsp;

The education department also said the British government has been aware of the use of RAAC in public sector buildings since 1994 but the issue came to light in 2018 when a roof collapsed at a Kent school.&nbsp;

<h2>UK government criticised</h2>

Shadow education secretary Bridget Phillipson said the Labour has also not seen the full list of schools affected and urged ministers to “come clean with parents” about the full scale of the challenge before them.&nbsp;

She also said that the government is “failing” children by shutting the schools just before the new term started. “This is an absolutely staggering display of Tory incompetence as they start a fresh term by failing our children again,” said Phillipson.&nbsp;

Paul Whiteman, general secretary of school leaders’ union NAHT said that while the “news is shocking” it isn’t “hugely surprising”. 
 
“What we are seeing here are the very real consequences of a decade of swinging cuts to spending on school buildings,” said Whiteman, as quoted by Sky News.&nbsp;

The Local Government Association that they have been warning about the risk of RAAC since 2018. The timing of the announcement meant schools and councils had been left with “very little time to make urgent rearrangements and minimise disruption to classroom learning,” said Kevin Bentley, senior vice-chairman of the association.&nbsp;

<h2>What now?</h2>

The education secretary told reporters that the first thing to do is identify where the RAAC is used. “Some children will be moved to a different part of the building, some of the buildings will be propped up, so the roofs will be propped up, some of them will be having temporary classrooms,” said Keegan. &nbsp;

The DfE said the majority of the school sites would remain open for face-to-face learning and only specific parts of buildings will be closed where RAAC is used. According to media reports, some students have already been told they will be learning remotely, in temporary classrooms or at different schools.&nbsp;

One parent has told Sky they were warned that the “disruption will continue until 2025, or they may have to go to a new location altogether”.&nbsp;

<h2>Other buildings at risk</h2>

In an interview with Times Radio, the schools minister Nick Gibb also revealed that the British government is also in the midst of rebuilding seven hospitals due to issues related to RAAC.&nbsp;

“They use propping where they identify RAAC and also we are rebuilding seven hospitals because of extensive RAAC in those hospitals,” said Gibb.&nbsp;

British media reports have also reported that a number of public building,s including schools, hospitals and police stations, have been identified as being at risk because of RAAC.&nbsp;

Figures obtained by UK's Labour Party have revealed than more than 120,000 people in England died last year while being on National Health Service's waiting list for hospital treatment, reported The Guardian. The number of deaths is twice the number in year 2017/2018 (60,000).

The Royal Free hospital in London reportedly said that it had had 3615 such deaths. In Morecambe Bay trust in Cumbria, the number was 2888.

The Leeds teaching hospital saw 2039 such deaths.

A "decade of underinvestment" is being underlined for large number of deaths of patients who had to endure long waits for medical treatment.

Healthwatch England, a patient advocacy group which scrutinises performance of NHS, described the deaths as "a national tragedy".

“We know that delays to care have significant impacts on people’s lives, putting many in danger,” said Louise Ansari, the chief executive of Healthwatch England as quoted by The Guardian.

“Record numbers of people are spending their final months in pain and agony, waiting for treatment that never arrives,” said Wes Streeting, the shadow health secretary. “The basic promise of the NHS – that it will be there for us when we need it – has been broken.”

The NHS however, has criticised the findings of Labour saying that they were unreliable and misleading.

“This analysis, based on figures from just a quarter of hospital trusts, does not demonstrate a link between waits for elective treatment and deaths, and it would be misleading to suggest it does, given the data does not include the cause of death or any further details on the person’s age and medical conditions,” an NHS spokesperson said as quoted by The Guardian.

UK: Numbers show huge spike in patient deaths while on NHS waitlist

The state-run national health service of Britain is set to become the first such service in the world which will offer an injection that can treat hundreds of cancer patients in the country and can reduce the time of treatment by up to three quarters. 
 
After receiving approval from the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), NHS England on Tuesday stated that hundreds of patients who were treated with the immunotherapy, are set to receive "under the skin" injections of atezolizumab, which will eventually lead to more time for cancer teams. 
 
"This approval will not only allow us to deliver convenient and faster care for our patients, but will enable our teams to treat more patients throughout the day," said Dr Alexander Martin, a consultant oncologist at West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust, while speaking to Reuters. 
 
NHS England stated that atezolizumab, also called Tecentriq, is usually administered to the patients intravenously, which means directly to their veins through a drip, which can take around 30 minutes or an hour for a few patients when it becomes difficult to access a vein.

"It takes approximately seven minutes, compared with 30 to 60 minutes for the current method of an intravenous infusion," said Marius Scholtz, Medical Director at Roche Products Limited. 
 
Atezolizumab, which has been the backbone of a Roche company Genentech, is an immunotherapy drug that empowers the immune system of the patients to seek and destroy cancerous cells. 
 
Currently, the treatment is offered to NHS patients suffering from a range of cancers, which includes lung, breast, liver and bladder, through transfusion.

<h2>'Majority must opt for time-saving jab'</h2>

NHS England stated that it is expecting the majority of its 3,600 cancer patients, to start treatment of atezolizumab every year in England and opt for this time-saving injection. 
 
However, it added that the patients who will be receiving intravenous chemotherapy along with atezolizumab in combination may remain on the transfusion.

<h2>Years-long investigation</h2>

The CPS argues she secretly attacked 13 babies in the neonatal ward of the hospital and her intention was to kill the babies while making her colleagues believe that the deaths occurred due to natural causes.&nbsp;

Letby’s actions first came to light after senior doctors became concerned about the rise in the number of unexplained deaths and collapses at the neonatal unit – where premature or sick babies are treated – over the course of 18 months starting in January 2015.&nbsp;

This prompted the hospital to begin an investigation in 2016. An independent review published in 2017, found no definitive explanation. However, the report did note significant gaps in staffing, poor decision-making in the unit and an insufficient number of senior staff members.

Since the doctors were unable to find a medical reason, the police were called in and after a lengthy investigation, it was found that Letby had been involved in the care of the babies.&nbsp;

During the trial, prosecutor Nick Johnson, called her a “constant malevolent presence when things took a turn for the worse.”&nbsp;

It was also found that one of the victim’s mothers walked in on her attacking her twin babies and Letby told her, “Trust me, I’m a nurse.”&nbsp;

The police also found paperwork and medical notes with references to the babies she murdered. She also carried out social media searches for the parents and families of the murdered babies.

During a search operation of her house, police found a handwritten note with the message ‘I AM EVIL, I DID THIS’.

When asked about this by defence barrister Ben Meyers KC, Letby reasoned, “because I felt at the time I had done something wrong and I thought I’m such an awful, evil person…that I had made mistakes and not known.”

The nurse said she thought “that somehow I had been incompetent and I had done something wrong to affect these babies. I felt I must be responsible in some way.”&nbsp;

The prosecution has described her as a cold, cruel, calculating liar who had repeatedly changed her account of events. They also called for her notes to be treated as a confession.&nbsp;

However, detectives involved in the case, during the trial said that they could not find any motive for why she had become a killer and did not find anything unusual about her life.&nbsp;

“The only person that can answer that...is Lucy Letby herself,” said Detective Superintendent Paul Hughes who led the investigation.&nbsp;

<h2>Letby defends herself</h2>

The British nurse, over the course of the trial, repeatedly said she never tried to hurt the babies and wanted to care for them.

“I have never murdered a child or harmed any of them,” said Letby.

<h2>Sentencing and further investigations</h2>

Letby will be sentenced on Monday (August 21) and is set to face a long prison term, and possibly a rare full life sentence.

The British police are still carrying out further investigations into Letby’s entire career as a nurse where she worked at the hospital as well as another one in Liverpool where she had trained, to find any other victims.&nbsp;

Hughes says police are reviewing all 4,000 admissions of babies into neonatal units at the two hospitals where Letby worked between 2012 and 2016. However, it does not mean they are “investigating all 4,000,” he added.&nbsp;

“It just means that we are committed to a thorough review of every admission from a medical perspective, to ensure that nothing is missed throughout the entirety of her employment as a nurse,” said the detective.&nbsp;

<h2>UK govt calls for investigation into case</h2>

The UK government has also called for an independent inquiry into the “circumstances behind the murders and attempted murders of babies” at the hospital to “ensure families get the answers they need”.&nbsp;

"Her burial rites may have reflected the nature of her death, or her social identity or that of her family," Walker added.&nbsp;

As per the official statement, the evidence suggests that the girl experienced many hardships during her short life. Her unusual grave sheds light on a rare early medieval burial practice, which is perhaps even contemporary attitudes towards those within the community who were considered "different".&nbsp;

Walker also said that the burial provides an interesting opportunity, which is tragic in so many senses, to view the realities of life, and death, for those seen as outsiders in the past.&nbsp;

Well, it looks like the English Test skipper is ready to make a U-turn and come out of 50-over retirement for the ICC event.&nbsp;As per fresh reports, Stokes is now considering to come out of ODI retirement&nbsp;if asked by white-ball skipper Buttler.

According to a report in Telegraph Sport, Stokes if willing to risk missing IPL 2024 if he needs ample recovery time in his schedule. He represents the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the premier tournament in India.

As per a recent release of data, the NHS waiting lists in England have ascended to record high numbers, despite Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's pledge to bring them down this year.

This was one of the five promises Sunak made earlier this year in his first major speech of 2023.

The figures published by NHS England this morning revealed an estimated 7.6 million people were waiting to start treatment at the end of June this year, which is slightly up from the numbers recorded in the month of May which were 7.5 million.

These are the highest numbers ever reported since the records began in the year 2007.

During his speech at the beginning of this year, Sunak had said, “NHS waiting lists will fall and people will get the care they need more quickly.”

The NHS data also showed that the total number of people, who had been waiting for more than 52 weeks to start routine hospital treatment at the end of June, had gone down from 385,022 to 383,083.

At the end of June, the estimated figure to have been waiting for more than 18 months was 7,177, as compared to 11,446, which was recorded at the end of May.

Both the government and NHS England had aimed at eliminating waitings of more than 18 months by April 2023, except for the complex cases.

The revelation of the figures comes after the NHS declared that the patients impacted by backlogs could bypass the queue at their local hospital if they are ready to travel to other parts of England.

“We must use every available resource to deliver life-saving checks to ease pressure on the NHS,” PA Media quoted Health Secretary Steve Barclay as saying.

The Royal College of Nursing's (RCN) chief nursing officer Nicola Ranger warned the health service “is falling into a deeper crisis”.

“A decade of underinvestment in the NHS has led to dire consequences for patients and pushed many nursing staff out of the profession they love and with unrelenting pressure on those who remain,” she added.

NHS England released a statement saying that, in the month of June this year, three days of junior doctors' strikes led to 106,120 postponements.

Junior doctors would be staging their fifth strike in the dispute on Friday, where they will be walking out for four days from 7 am.

Pakistan will debut in the third season of the Road Safety World Series tournament - a T20 league, which commences in September in England this year. The Road Safety World Series started three years ago in 2020, was played in India until now and will now feature in the UK. This multi-team event includes only retired players from each country to participate and has got approval from the ECB regarding Pakistan's participation.

The Road Safety World Series league began in March 2020, has completed two seasons, with the third one expected to get underway from early September for close to three weeks. Nine teams will participate this time, compared to eight in the previous edition.

While the first season was played across 2020 and 2021 – given the Covid-19 situation in the world, the second season took place in 2022.&nbsp; 
However, because of strained political relations between India and Pakistan over the years, the team from across the border didn't participate thus far but will debut in the third season.

Bangladesh replaced Australia, while England also got added to the schedule.

For the next season, two teams from Down Under – Australia and New Zealand got added to the setup, while the tournament was played in Dehradun and Raipur during the September window.

In both editions, the Indian Legends defeated Sri Lankan Legends in the finals in Raipur.

This tournament has seen some of the greatest cricketers, like Sachin Tendulkar, Sanath Jayasuriya, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Yuvraj Singh, Shane Bond, Jonty Rhodes and Brian Lara, alongside others, plying their trades for their respective teams.

On Monday, the union released a statement saying that the teachers have voted to put an end to the industrial action and accept the 6.5 per cent&nbsp;pay rise announced on July 13 by the prime minister.

"Members have spoken very clearly and in great numbers," Mary Bousted and Kevin Courtney, joint general secretaries of the NEU, said, describing the deal as the "highest pay award for over thirty years".

"The Government should be in no doubt that we will hold its feet to the fire on delivering for teachers and support staff on workload and funding," they added.

Earlier this month, the education unions had said that they would cancel further planned strikes and also suggested the teachers and other union members vote to accept the government's pay offer.

The NEU represents more than 450,000 teachers, lecturers, education support staff and leaders. It released a statement saying that around 86% of its teacher members who voted, chose to accept the offer and end industrial action in an electronic ballot, with a voting turnout of 60 per cent.

"This is good news for teachers, good news for parents and most of all, good news for students," Britain's education minister Gillian Keegan said in a post on social media site X, formerly known as Twitter.

Three other British education unions also said that they would put forth the government's offer to their members.

The UK has been facing a wave of industrial turmoil in years, including by railway workers, as pay offers fail to keep up with high inflation.

Sunak's pay offer still faces opposition from healthcare workers, whose walkouts have disrupted an already burdened state-run health system with thousands of cancelled appointments.&nbsp;

The NEU represents more than 450,000 teachers, lecturers, education support staff and leaders. It released a statement saying that around 86% of its teacher members who voted, chose to accept the offer and end industrial action in an electronic ballot, with a voting turnout of 60 per cent.
