On Wednesday, the <a href="https://www.wionews.com/entertainment/emmy-awards-2021-the-crown-the-mandalorian-lead-nominations-heres-the-complete-list-397919">juried winners for the 73rd Emmy Awards were announced</a> on for the following categories: Animation, Costume, Interactive Programming, and Motion Design.&nbsp;

 
The list of awardees included monster hits (Televison) like Beyoncé's 'Black Is King', 'The Simpsons' and 'The Masked Singer'.

Also, there were no nominees and all it took was a one-step evaluation and voting procedure where there was an open discussion about each entrant's work, and a review of the merits of awarding an Emmy, reports have confirmed.

 
The Jury Awards will be presented at the 2021 Creative Arts Emmy Awards happening in person between September 11 and 12, and will eventually be broadcast as an edited presentation on FXX on September 18.

“An added requirement for attendees has been issued: In addition to proof of full vaccination with either an FDA- or WHO-authorized vaccine, attendees at all four shows will be required to provide proof of a negative RT-PCR COVID test prior to admission to all Emmy ceremonies,” the TV academy shared in a statement.

 
The RT-PCR COVID test must be taken within the following timeframes:

 
For September 11 attendees Creative Arts ceremony, the test must be done on or after September 9.

 
For attendees to either of the Sunday, September 12, Creative Arts ceremonies, the test must be done on or after September 10.

 
For attendees to the Sunday ceremony, September 19, CBS telecast, the test must be done on or after September 17.

 
What is yet to be revealed is whether attendees will be required to wear masks or not. Meanwhile, L.A. county currently requires the use of masks inside commercial venues, reportedly.

In the film, Academy, Grammy and Golden Globe Award-winning musician David Byrne performs songs from his 2018 album of the same name, as well as songs by Talking Heads, and from his solo career.&nbsp;

He’s joined onstage by band members from around the world, including Jacquelene Acevedo, Gustavo Di Dalva, Daniel Freedman, Chris Giarmo, Tim Keiper, Tendayi Kuumba, Karl Mansfield, Mauro Refosco, Stéphane San Juan, Angie Swan and Bobby Wooten III.

The film is produced by 40 Acres and A Mule Filmworks, Todomundo and RadicalMedia and made its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival last September, debuting on HBO in the US the following month.

It so happened that ‘The Young and the Restless’ star Marguerite Ray’s name appeared on screen with a photograph of Veronica Redd, who is alive.

Issuing their apology, the Daytime Emmys Twitter account posted: “During last night’s #DaytimeEmmys telecast, the In Memoriam segment included an incorrect picture in our remembrance of the late Y&amp;R actress Marguerite Ray.”

“We deeply regret this error and intend to re-edit the sequence for subsequent digital releases once a replacement image can be appropriately licensed. We sincerely apologize to the Ray family — as well as to Veronica Redd, whose image was inadvertently used instead. Each of these Daytime icons deserved better from our Academy.”

From 1980 to 1990, Marguerite Ray played the role of Mamie Johnson. She died in December 2020 at the age of 89.

The six seasons of the Rose family and their struggles, concluded this year and while the fans bid goodbye to the show, the jury at the Emmys made sure to give them a gala farewell.

'Schitt's Creek' is about John Rose, a successful businessman who loses all his wealth and goes broke, only to find a home in a motel in a little unknown town called Schitt's Creek that he bought as a joke. As someone who came across this brilliant series during the awful pandemic, I can vouch when I say it's one of the most relevant pieces of art you can enjoy while cribbing about an uncertain future. The entire world could relate to the Roses when their world turned upside down overnight and they were left with nothing but their family in a two-room suite at an almost empty town. The interactions they never had in their mansions when everybody was busy in their own lives. From getting to know their child's middle name to their relationships and more, everything that happens between the Roses, resonates with the lockdown period spent with the family. Probably, this was the reason that while accepting his Award for Eugene thanked the Netflix audience for making this spark of a show, rage like fire and become visible enough to be noticed across the globe.

Characters that grow on you

The tale of a dysfunctional family, Schitt's Creek, takes on the humour of four bizarre characters and weaves into this beautiful, heartwarming yet hilarious narrative, that morphs into something beautiful in every season. John, as the patriarch of the family, is the softest of them all and the one who keeps his head out of water and breathes for the entire family. He is a caring husband, and puts in every effort to make his children's life less miserable than it already is. He is also a good friend to town's mayor Roland Schitt (who is again a character that takes a while to grow on you).&nbsp; Moira Rose, probably, deserves a whole other article. One of the most flamboyant characters in comedy series history, Moira, is a show in herself. Unapologetic, self-centered, a diva in every sense of the word, you feel her when she goes through a nervous breakdown and celebrates her 'caww'&nbsp; as she gets back on her feet without letting anyone walk over her.

David Rose is the pessimist son who celebrates queerness in the show without it looking like tokenism. He along with Patrick, make one of the most romantic pairings in the LGBTQIA+ TV history. I mean, yes, we all love Mitch and Cam from 'Modern Family', but David and Patrick take romance to another level. What's great about David (apart from his wardrobe), is his arch in the show - from being a complainer to a business owner. Similarly, his equation with sister Alexis, is as real as sibling relationships can get. Easily, one character who has the best arc in the show is Alexis, from a carefree,&nbsp; confused rich brat to a kind, compassionate, understanding and ambitious woman, Alexis is one character we all hope to be, at sometime in our lives.

Other than the Rose family, each and every supporting cast in the series, owns your heart - from Stevie, Roland to Bob, Ted and Twlya. Every character has been given enough attention during the six season run, to find their own story and path, without feeling rushed or incomplete. All the characters are a prime example of what good writing and attention to detail can bring out in a story, which has nothing else to offer other than human bonds, 
&nbsp; 
Quirks- like never before

As it is with every sit-com, Schitt's Creek also gives you ample one-liners that deserve their own fandom. While Moira Rose wears the crown with her "What's your favourite season? Awards." to her "Stop acting like a disgruntled pelican" and her style of saying 'bebe'. Alexis 'Ew David' is probably one of the most famous quote coming from the show. The show has ample quirks in it to become a pop-culture phenomena. The niche audience discovered it in 2015, but the way the Roses' tragedy fits perfectly, and eerily in these difficult times, is something that the pop-culture enthusiasts will study for years to come.

Another standout in the series is the characters' looks and outfits. Be it Moira's innumerable wigs, to her outrageous ensembles, if any character can give Met Gala red-carpet a run for its money, it's Moira Rose. David's amazing sweaters deserve a retail place of their own, his every look shouts 'MOOD' in Alexis' voice.

A wholesome show that never sounds preachy

As stated by the cast members during the Emmys, the main purpose of the show was to celebrate inclusivity and optimism during trying times, and it serves it pretty well. From one of the best gay romances in TV history with a song of their own, to wholesome friendships and dysfunctional bindings, Schitt's Creek celebrates them all. It's a safe space where women who keep themselves first are celebrated, being unapologetic is encouraged, queerness is showcased without any past trauma, shame and with simple ease, and economic disparity is showcased without any mockery, but as a set-back to achieve something more permanent. A show that is genius in terms of creativity and limitless in terms of inclusivity. All that, in a simple setting of a small town. Schitt's Creek does have a big Canadian heart of its origin.

A year when everything looks bleak and the tunnel seems to be never ending, Schitt's Creek is a little light of warmth and happiness that might give you joy for a little while, as you try to make it through. Just like the Roses, the greener pastures await, and like Moira says, "One must champion oneself and say, I'm ready for this."

And there's nothing more this shows teaches us more than valuing yourself and those around you. Maybe the entire Canada felt the same emotion as they lit up the CN tower in the colour of Schitt’s Creek to honor its historic win.

Several TV critics praised the production for adapting to the limitations and experimenting with the traditional format.

“This was a difficult thing that the TV Academy did,” wrote Los Angeles Times television critic Robert Lloyd. “I’m not sure how it could have been pulled off much better.”

But Mike Hale of the New York Times said producers “kept the stale parts” of Hollywood awards broadcasts.

“Instead of enlivening the proceedings,” Hale wrote, “the mix of pretaped bits, remote acceptances and solo appearances by guests on the Staples sets made you nostalgic for the hothouse atmosphere and occasional breakdowns of the traditional awards-show format.”

The 72nd Television Academy Awards aka the Emmy Awards&nbsp;this year were different but interesting. While it was definitely less on glamour courtesy, no red carpet and live audience but it had some moments that we will cherish for years to come.&nbsp;

Emmy Awards&nbsp;2020 were virtual yet they were not dull as stars participated from their homes and showed enthusiasm for the TV Awards like every year before.&nbsp;

The major winners of the evening were ‘Succession’ that swept drama categories, ‘Schitt’s Creek’ that made history winning all awards in the comedy category and ‘Watchmen’ winning a few important prizes. Zendaya became the youngest Black actor to win an Emmy beating the likes of Jennifer Aniston and the latter gave us some memorable moments as she organised a mini ‘Friends’ reunion for us.&nbsp;

Now late night funnyman Jimmy Kimmel will host the 72nd Emmys live on Sunday from an empty theater in Los Angeles -- which remains under strict lockdown -- with winners beaming in from the safety of their homes due to Covid-19. 
 
Adding to the unpredictability on a night of firsts, 130-odd nominees who were sent cameras to hook up in their own living rooms have been encouraged to get creative with their speeches (and comfortable -- A-listers are invited to trade gowns and tuxedos for pajamas). 
 
"Ratings have been flagging for award shows for years... This is, if nothing else, an opportunity to mix things up, to do an award ceremony in a way unlike any other that's been done," said IndieWire TV awards editor Libby Hill. 
 
"Even if Sunday night is a complete disaster, it's at least going to be an interesting disaster. And that's really all you ask for in 2020." 
 
Capturing this year's somewhat anarchic zeitgeist, 'Watchmen' leads the charge with a whopping 26 nominations, primarily in the limited series categories. 
 
The eerily prescient comic book adaptation that debuted last October confronts historic US racism, police violence and even mask-wearing. It also wowed critics and audiences alike. 
 
"'Watchmen' speaks so specifically in so many unprecedented ways to the moment in which we're living right now," said Hill. 
 
"I think people will probably get pretty tired of hearing Watchmen's name getting called... it's as much of a lock as we have right now."

With HBO's record-breaking Emmys juggernaut 'Game of Thrones' having finally mounted a dragon and soared off to Westeros, the awards in the drama series categories promise to be more fiercely contested this year. 
 
"It's a relief for HBO that they have 'Succession' hitting at the right time," said Deadline awards columnist Pete Hammond. 
 
The critically adored show about a powerful family's back-stabbing battle for control of a dynastic media empire won a writing Emmy in its first season, and has amassed 18 nominations this time. 
 
But it is tied with 'Ozark,' a dark money-laundering tale set in the American heartland from Netflix, which despite landing a record 160 nominations this year is still desperate to win its first major series Emmy. 
 
Lurking in the background are British royals saga 'The Crown' and Star Wars tale 'The Mandalorian,' which boasts lavish Thrones-esque production values and has already scooped five Emmys in technical categories this week for newcomer Disney+. 
 
Comedy this year appears to be a toss-up between previous serial winner 'The Marvelous Mrs Maisel' -- Amazon's quirky tale of a 1950s housewife who becomes a standup comic -- and 'Schitt's Creek.' 
 
The latter, a Canadian comedy about a privileged family forced to live in a rundown motel, failed to earn a single nomination in its first four years, but became a sleeper hit after airing on Netflix and signed off with a heartwarming final season. 
 
Emmy voters "know it's the show's last chance... that's the one that's got big momentum," said Hammond.

Of the more than 100 acting nominations in the drama, comedy, limited series and television movie categories this year, more than a third of them went to black actors -- a new record.

The show must go on: virus-era Emmys are virtual and live

Television`s Emmy Awards usually provide a night of hugs, high-fives and glamorous stars posing on the red carpet, but the coronavirus pandemic will make for a very different virtual-only ceremony on Sunday. 
 
Jimmy Kimmel will host from a stage in the Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles, telling jokes without the usual packed audience of celebrities. Only production staff and a handful of stars will be allowed in. The red carpet was canceled. 
 
Still, producers said the show, broadcast live on Walt Disney Co`s ABC network, aims to provide a celebratory feel for the industry`s highest honors.

The Daytime Emmys had become limited to streaming online for the past four years but according to a new announcement, this year it will be shown on broadcast as a two-hour special on June 26.

This will make it the 14th time CBS has broadcast the show.&nbsp;

"The Daytime Emmys are coming home," said Adam Sharp, president and CEO of NATAS. "For generations, daytime television has been a source of comfort and continuity that's never been more important."

Added Jack Sussman, executive vp specials, music and live events at CBS: "Daytime television has been keeping viewers engaged and entertained for many years, so it is with great pride that we look forward to celebrating the best of the genre here on CBS."

The Daytime Emmy Awards honour individuals and programs broadcast between 2 a.m. and 6 p.m., as well as certain categories of digital and syndicated programming of similar content.

Awards will be presented in leading categories during the telecast, with recipients and other special guests appearing from home because of social distancing rules put in place as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

International Emmy Awards 2017 took place on Monday night at the Hilton New York hotel.
