<p>Consequently, Trump filed a new case and is now seeking a retraction as well as unspecified compensatory and punitive damages. According to the former president's claims, Tuesday's filing relates to comments made by Carroll on CNN after an earlier court verdict.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Quizzed about what was going through her mind when the jury said they were not convinced that Trump raped her, Carroll said, “Well, I just immediately (said) in my own head, ‘Oh, yes, he did. Oh yes, he did.’”</p>

<p>Carroll added that when she shook hands with Trump's attorney Joe Tacopina, she told him, “He did it. And you know it.”</p>

<p>After the filing of the case, a lawyer representing Carroll said the case was&nbsp;"nothing more than his [Trump's] latest effort to delay accountability" for the verdict on 9 May.</p>

<h2><strong>Date set for a second defamation trial</strong></h2>

<p>The Republican leader filing the lawsuit comes over a fortnight after a federal court in New York&nbsp;set the date for a second defamation trial against him.</p>

<p>Notably, Carroll, who received&nbsp;$5 million in compensatory and punitive damages last month, filed another case after Trump's tirade against her at a CNN town hall.&nbsp;A day after a nine-member jury found Trump liable for sexually abusing and defaming the Elle magazine writer, he called her a 'whack job'.&nbsp;</p>

<p>He added that Carroll was telling a "made-up story" and that he didn't know her, which according to Carroll's lawyers, comes under the category of further "defamatory statements".&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Trump’s defamatory statements post-verdict show the depth of his malice toward Carroll since it is hard to imagine defamatory conduct that could possibly be more motivated by hatred, ill will, or spite," the complaint reads.</p>

<p>"This conduct supports a very substantial punitive damages award in Carroll’s favor both to punish Trump, to deter him from engaging in further defamation, and to deter others from doing the same," it added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to Reuters, the slaveholding ancestors of living US presidents are:</p>

<p>During the defence's argument, the man's lawyer blamed the insurrection on former US President Donald Trump, claiming that his rhetoric had inspired Rodriguez to participate in the riot.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Rodriguez was initially identified by online investigators, who meticulously reviewed hundreds of hours of publicly available video footage from the riots. He was arrested in March 2021. His sentencing follows other notable sentences for individuals involved in the January 6 attack. <p>Both sides were ordered by Judge Aileen Cannon to file pre-trial motions by July 24, as two weeks were set aside for a trial in Fort Pierce, which is located a two-hour drive north of Miami, where initially Trump was processed.</p>

<p>Florida's Southern District is termed a "rocket docket" jurisdiction because its judges are known for pushing trials to ensure that they start relatively quickly.</p>

<p>The recent legal setback seems to have had an effect on Donald Trump’s popularity polls, as a new survey has shown that the former US president has lost six points in Republican voter polls.</p>

<p>A CNN/SSRS survey released on Tuesday has revealed that Trump still holds the lead over his rival Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (47 per cent to 26 per cent).</p>

<p>The poll was conducted earlier this month after Trump was arraigned in federal court last week. The survey focused on Republicans and Republican-leaning voters who were asked who they will support.</p>

<p>In May, the same survey showed Trump leading DeSantis (53 per cent to 26 per cent).</p>

<p>Last week, a federal grand jury indicted Trump for allegedly willfully mishandling classified documents, obstruction of justice and making false statements. He has been charged&nbsp;with over 37 counts, including the Espionage Act.</p>

<p>Responding to the survey, a Trump campaign official said in a statement, "President Trump continues to dominate in poll after poll— both nationally and statewide."</p>

<p><strong>GOP also sees marginal drop</strong></p>

<p>Apart from a marginal drop in support for Trump’s candidacy, the survey also found his favourability rating among Republican-aligned (GOP) voters waning from 77 per cent in May to 67 per cent in June.</p>

<p>Among the men and voters aged between 18 and 49, their support of Trump declined by 9 points; 7 points among voters making less than $50,000 a year; and 6 points among voters aged 50 to 64, in addition to voters making more than $50,000 a year.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Moreover, there has been a similar increase in the share saying they would not back DeSantis under any circumstances, up 6 points to 21 per cent.</p>

<p>Nevertheless, the recent ratings would likely have little effect on Trump who still holds a strong command compared to the Florida governor at 26 per cent. Former vice president Mike Pence was the only other hopeful to come near double digits at 9 per cent.</p>

<p>Notably, this was also the first CNN poll to be conducted since DeSantis formally announced that he is running for the White House on May 24.</p>

<p>When questioned about the July 2021 meeting recording where Trump could be heard describing the secret documents at his residence, the Republican leader said he was simply referring to news clippings and magazine pieces.</p>

<p>Corcoran took extensive notes and recordings of his communications with the former president. Corcoran's notes are featured throughout the indictment, including a communication where he stated that Trump made a "plucking motion" when discussing documents that potentially intimated the attorney should pluck out and destroy classified information.&nbsp;</p>

The texts between these two employees describe moving classified documents to different storage locations at Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence. Following this discussion, some of the documents were moved to a bathroom at the Mar-a-Lago resort and the indictment showed&nbsp;a photograph of stacks of boxes sitting next to a toilet.</p>

<p>The indictment also states that Trump Employee 2 worked with Trump's personal aide Waltine Nauta to bring boxes from the storage room to Trump’s residence for his review. The employee and Nauta shared details about where the boxes (of classified documents) were stored and referenced Trump’s demands for information about them.</p>
