Rahul's career-best rankings in whites is the eighth position, attained in November 2017. His masterclass 123 in the first innings of the Centurion Test paved the way for India's first-ever win at the venue, also breaking SA's unbeaten streak in the iconic stadium since 2014. Opener Dean Elgar has expressed his interest in becoming South Africa's next Test captain, saying leadership comes naturally to him and he would think "long and hard" if approached for the job.

With a three-Test series scheduled against the West Indies in July, CSA is still figuring out the Test captaincy conundrum.

"It's definitely not an easy journey being a Test captain but I think leadership is something that comes extremely naturally to me," Elgar said during an interview with Cricket South Africa (CSA) which was released on Monday.

"I've captained teams in the past, right up from school level to provincial level and at franchise level. I enjoyed it extremely and if I was asked to take on the captaincy, it's definitely something I would think long and hard about because it would mean a lot to me."

The left-handed batsman, who had captained the 2006 U-19 World Cup team in Sri Lanka, was the stand-in skipper in the first Test against England in 2017 after regular captain Du Plessis had missed the match due to the birth of his first child.

Elgar had again captained South Africa against Pakistan in January last year when Du Plessis was penalised for slow over-rate in the second Test and was suspended for the third and final Test of the series.

Aiden Markram and Keshav Maharaj had earlier expressed their desires to captain South Africa.

Dean Elgar ton rescues South Africa in New Zealand

Dean Elgar has been called up by South Africa to replace injured batsman Rilee Rossouw for the rest of the Tri-Nation One-Day International series in West Indies, Cricket South Africa said yesterday. 
 
Rossouw dislocated his shoulder in Tuesday&rsquo;s 47-run victory over Australia at Providence. 
 
&ldquo;Rilee fell awkwardly on his shoulder while fielding the ball on the boundary. He was immediately taken to the local hospital for X-rays which confirmed he had dislocated the AC joint of his right shoulder,&quot; manager Mohammed Moosajee said in a statement. 
 
&quot;He will be unable to take further part in this series and will return back to South Africa as soon as possible. The extent of the injury and the recovery period will only be known once he has been assessed and managed by one of Cricket South Africa&rsquo;s panel of shoulder specialists.&rdquo;

Dean Elgar will replace batsman Rilee Rossouw who has a dislocation of the acromioclavicular joint of his right shoulder

Dean Elgar has been called up by South Africa to replace injured batsman Rilee Rossouw for the rest of the Tri-Nation One-Day International series in West Indies, Cricket South Africa said yesterday. Rossouw dislocated his shoulder in Tuesday’s 47-run victory over Australia at Providence. “Rilee fell awkwardly on his shoulder while fielding the ball on the boundary. He was immediately taken to the local hospital for X-rays which confirmed he had dislocated the AC joint of his right shoulder," manager Mohammed Moosajee said in a statement. "He will be unable to take further part in this series and will return back to South Africa as soon as possible. The extent of the injury and the recovery period will only be known once he has been assessed and managed by one of Cricket South Africa’s panel of shoulder specialists.” Elgar, 28, last played an ODI for South Africa against India in Mumbai in October.
