<p>In a big revelation in India, about 53 per cent of institutions which are active under the government's minority scholarship programme have been found to be 'fake', said multiple media reports. The findings have reportedly been obtained in a internal inquiry which was conducted by Ministry of Minority Affairs. This is being reported as 'biggest minority scholarship scam' in the country. The inquiry by the ministry has brought to the fore corruption in 830 such institutions. It is being touted to be a scam amounting to more than 17 million US dollars (Rs 144.83 crore), reported India Today.</p>

<p>Union Minister Smriti Irani has sent the matter to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).</p>

<p>As per the report, the Ministry of Minority Affairs has lodged a complaint in the matter. The complaint was lodged on July 10. The internal inquiry involved investigation in 100 districts across 34 states. A total of 1572 institutions were reportedly scrutinised.</p>

<p>The authorities have now frozen accounts of 830 institutions which are under the scanner.</p>

<p>India Today reported that the ministry has raised questions with banks as to why accounts of such institutions were opened in the first place.</p>

<p>The report said that many of the institutions under scanner were registered on National Scholarship Portal as well as the Unified District Information System for Education (UDISE) but they were non-existent or non-operational.</p>

<p>The CBI will now investigate nodal officers of these institutions who submitted approval reports as well district nodal officers who verified cases which were found to be fake. The agency will also probe into how a scam of such size was allowed to persist for years in multiple Indian states.</p>

<p>The ministry's probe has reportedly found that in 62 institutions in Chhattisgarh were found to be fake. In Rajasthan, the number was 99. In Assam, 68 per cent of the probed institutions were found to be suspicious. The percentages in Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal were 64, 44 and 39 respectively.</p>

In a big revelation in India, about 53 per cent of institutions which are active under the government's minority scholarship programme have been found to be 'fake', said multiple media reports. The findings have reportedly been obtained in a internal inquiry which was conducted by Ministry of Minority Affairs. This is being reported as 'biggest minority scholarship scam' in the country. The inquiry by the ministry has brought to the fore corruption in 830 such institutions. It is being touted to be a scam amounting to more than 17 million US dollars (Rs 144.83 crore), reported India Today. Union Minister Smriti Irani has sent the matter to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). As per the report, the Ministry of Minority Affairs has lodged a complaint in the matter. The complaint was lodged on July 10. The internal inquiry involved investigation in 100 districts across 34 states. A total of 1572 institutions were reportedly scrutinised. The authorities have now frozen accounts of 830 institutions which are under the scanner. India Today reported that the ministry has raised questions with banks as to why accounts of such institutions were opened in the first place. Also Read | Congress reconstitutes CWC, Shashi Tharoor and Sachin Pilot included The report said that many of the institutions under scanner were registered on National Scholarship Portal as well as the Unified District Information System for Education (UDISE) but they were non-existent or non-operational. The CBI will now investigate nodal officers of these institutions who submitted approval reports as well district nodal officers who verified cases which were found to be fake. The agency will also probe into how a scam of such size was allowed to persist for years in multiple Indian states. The ministry's probe has reportedly found that in 62 institutions in Chhattisgarh were found to be fake. In Rajasthan, the number was 99. In Assam, 68 per cent of the probed institutions were found to be suspicious. The percentages in Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal were 64, 44 and 39 respectively. CBI to take over Manipur viral video case, trial to be held outside state: Report

<p>India’s premier investigating agency, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), on Friday, arrested three people responsible for the Odisha train accidents that caused the death of 293 people and left over 1,000 injured.</p>

<p>The three railway officials who have been arrested are senior section engineer Arun Kumar Mohanta, section engineer Mohammad Amir Khan and technician Pappu Kumar.</p>

<p>According to reports, these three were aware that their actions might lead to this tragedy.</p>

<p>They have been arrested under Indian Penal Code sections 304 (Punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence, or giving false information to screen offender).</p>

<p>Last week, the Commission of&nbsp;Railway Safety (CRS)&nbsp; that was probing the incident flagged that human error in railway signalling system led to one of the deadliest railway crashes in India's history.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>The committee found&nbsp;that the train accident occurred after workers repairing the railroad barrier made faulty connections in the automated signalling system on the network. It also found “lapses at multiple levels” which led to the death of at least 293 people and injured more than 1,000.</p>

<p>The report said that&nbsp;the wires in the level-crossing location box were labelled incorrectly and remained undetected for years that led to a mix-up during maintenance work and added that the accident could have been avoided if the red flags had not been ignored.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Indian Railways’ Signal and Telecommunication (S&amp;T) department has reportedly been found primarily responsible for the incident.&nbsp;</p>

Odisha train tragedy: CBI arrests three Indian railway officials

<p>India's Central Bureau Of Investigation has shared a key update on the Sushant Singh Rajput death case. The Bollywood actor was found dead at his Mumbai residence on 14 June 2020. The initial investigation alleged that he had died by suicide but his family suspected foul play and an investigation was taken over by the CBI.<br />
<br />
A source close to the case told Hindustan Times that CBI has been able to finalise the case as it is waiting for a response from the US over the past deleted chats and emails of the actor. A CBI official told the newspaper that the investigative agency has reached out to Google and Facebook in the US to share details of Rajput's deleted chats, emails and posts to get a better understanding of the case.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
“We are still waiting for a response from the US on this technical evidence, which may help us take the case to a logical conclusion. The case is pending finalisation (because of this)," the official said.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
According to a mutual legal assistance treaty (MLAT) between India and US, both sides can gain access to information in any domestic investigation.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
Senior Advocate Vikas Singh, who is a representative of the actor’s family, said that he wasn’t aware of the request made to US authorities but added, “CBI is trying to give a slow death (to the case).”&nbsp;<br />

Recently, Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis also shared an update on Sushant Singh Rajput’s case and said, “At first, the information available was based on hearsay. However, some individuals asserted that they possessed substantial evidence regarding the case. In response, we reached out to them and requested that they submit the evidence to the police.”<br />
<br />
He added, “Currently, we are in the process of examining the credibility of the presented evidence. The investigation is still in progress, and it would be premature for me to provide any comments on the eventual outcome of the case at this stage.”</p>

A CBI official told the newspaper that the investigative agency has reached out to Google and Facebook in the US to share details of Rajput's deleted chats, emails and posts to get a better understanding of the case. “We are still waiting for a response from the US on this technical evidence, which may help us take the case to a logical conclusion. The case is pending finalisation (because of this)," the official said. According to a mutual legal assistance treaty (MLAT) between India and US, both sides can gain access to information in any domestic investigation. Senior Advocate Vikas Singh, who is a representative of the actor’s family, said that he wasn’t aware of the request made to US authorities but added, “CBI is trying to give a slow death (to the case).” Sushant Singh Rajput's death case Recently, Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis also shared an update on Sushant Singh Rajput’s case and said, “At first, the information available was based on hearsay. However, some individuals asserted that they possessed substantial evidence regarding the case. In response, we reached out to them and requested that they submit the evidence to the police.” He added, “Currently, we are in the process of examining the credibility of the presented evidence. The investigation is still in progress, and it would be premature for me to provide any comments on the eventual outcome of the case at this stage.” Sushant Singh Rajput died on June 14, 2020. Mumbai Police, who were earlier investigating the case, didn’t find any foul play and later the case was handed over to CBI. <p>Earlier in the day, minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that the tragic train accident occurred because of a "change in electronic interlocking".</p>

<p>"The commissioner of railway safety has investigated the matter and it won't be right for me to comment on that. Let the investigation report come. India: Who is Praveen Sood? IPS officer, now chief of India's probe agency CBI

On April 28, the special CBI court acquitted Bollywood actor Sooraj Pancholi, who had been charged with abetting actress Jiah Khan's suicide. The Ghajini actress was found dead at her Juhu home on 3 June 2013. Sooraj was facing a charge under section 306 (abetment of suicide) of the Indian Penal Code because of a letter seized from the actress' apartment on June 10. Here's a timeline of the events that occurred.

The Jiah khan death case: A timeline of events

<p>A second woman has come forward to say she was raped while working at the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), as reported by Sky news.&nbsp;The woman&nbsp;allegedly contacted The Guardian after it broke the first-ever historical claim that a woman&nbsp;CBI employee was assaulted at a party in London in 2019.</p>

<p>The second woman claimed there was photographic evidence of her engaging in sexual activities with two male coworkers while she was unconscious after a night out while employed at a CBI office abroad.</p>

<p>She had no memory of giving her consent, as reported by the Guardian.&nbsp;</p>

<p>It is also noted that another female employee had reported in 2018 that a male coworker had stalked her, and that despite the company's lobbying group upholding the charge of harassment, the man's services had been retained.</p>

<p>At least 12 women have made allegations of misconduct against top members of Britain's largest employers' organisation, and the controversy has caused several of the members to reevaluate their roles within the body.</p>

<p>According to the CBI, new information about an allegedly "serious" offence was given to the police on Thursday (April 20).</p>

<p><strong>ALSO READ |</strong>&nbsp;<a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/uk-political-turbulence-live-deputy-pm-dominic-raab-resigns-following-bullying-allegations-584777">UK political turbulence LIVE | Oliver Dowden named new UK deputy PM after Raab resignation</a></p>

<p>In the wake of the controversy, the police investigation, and a review ordered by the organisation, director general Tony Danker was fired and three other employees were suspended.</p>

<p>The CBI had previously rendered it evident that&nbsp;Danker was not the target of the most serious accusations, such as rape, that had been made to date.</p>

<p>In an interview earlier this week, he criticised the organisation's handling of the situation, saying he had been made the "fall guy" for the company's prior&nbsp;failures.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>CBI's culture at fault?</strong></h2>

<p>The second woman to come forward with a rape claim told the Guardian that while she did not hold the CBI accountable for allegedly being raped, the body's culture was to blame.</p>

<p>"I was really young and people took advantage of me after a night of drinking," she told the Guardian.</p>

A second woman has come forward to say she was raped while working at the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), as reported by Sky news. The woman allegedly contacted The Guardian after it broke the first-ever historical claim that a woman CBI employee was assaulted at a party in London in 2019. The second woman claimed there was photographic evidence of her engaging in sexual activities with two male coworkers while she was unconscious after a night out while employed at a CBI office abroad. She had no memory of giving her consent, as reported by the Guardian. It is also noted that another female employee had reported in 2018 that a male coworker had stalked her, and that despite the company's lobbying group upholding the charge of harassment, the man's services had been retained. At least 12 women have made allegations of misconduct against top members of Britain's largest employers' organisation, and the controversy has caused several of the members to reevaluate their roles within the body. According to the CBI, new information about an allegedly "serious" offence was given to the police on Thursday (April 20). ALSO READ | UK political turbulence LIVE | Oliver Dowden named new UK deputy PM after Raab resignation In the wake of the controversy, the police investigation, and a review ordered by the organisation, director general Tony Danker was fired and three other employees were suspended. The CBI had previously rendered it evident that Danker was not the target of the most serious accusations, such as rape, that had been made to date. In an interview earlier this week, he criticised the organisation's handling of the situation, saying he had been made the "fall guy" for the company's prior failures. CBI's culture at fault? The second woman to come forward with a rape claim told the Guardian that while she did not hold the CBI accountable for allegedly being raped, the body's culture was to blame. "I was really young and people took advantage of me after a night of drinking," she told the Guardian. "I blame the CBI for an atmosphere that was allowed to feed into people's sense of confidence. That they could act in this way and afterwards feel no worries, no fears of consequences. That they could feel somehow proud, in an office," she added. "That there wasn't a person for me to speak to in HR who I knew of and could trust. I want to say to other women or men at the CBI that they do great work.
