Take a look at a report on $1.3 million oyster reef project, where a group of scientists hope to save the coastlines of California's San Diego Bay.

WION Climate Tracker| $1.3 million oyster reef project: Attempt to save California's coastline

<p>Scientists anticipate that the oyster reefs in San Diego Bay may produce an even more valuable treasure than pearls: protection against coastal erosion brought on by rising sea levels.</p>

<p>The artificial reefs that were placed in the water as part of a strategy to lessen damage in southern California are now home to thousands of the tiny mollusks.</p>

<p>"We look at numerous different ways to help combat sea-level rise, and these reef balls are one of the tools in our toolbox to do that," Eileen Maher, director of environmental conservation at the Port of San Diego, told AFP.</p>

<p>Last December, the port built 360 structures along a peninsula tucked between Southern California's salt marshes and the Coronado peninsula, which is home to the naval aviation facility that served as the inspiration for "Top Gun."</p>

<p>They are built of cement, sand, and crushed oyster shells, which is a key component that entices living oysters to establish a home there.</p>

<p>According to Maher, thousands of still-microscopic oysters are hidden by a greenish silt that has accumulated on the reefs after ten months in the ocean.</p>

<p>The dozen <a href="https://www.wionews.com/science/scientists-predict-the-formation-of-new-supercontinent-amasia-when-pacific-ocean-disappears-523819">scientists</a> engaged in this pilot experiment eventually want to see the development of actual oyster reefs, which they think will have a real effect on their local ecosystem.</p>

<p>The bivalve inhabitants of the reefs are all tiny filtration plants that are vital to the marine ecology, making the reefs much more than just a natural defence against tidal erosion.</p>

<p>According to a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) report published earlier this year, sea levels around California are predicted to rise by 20 centimetres (eight inches) by 2050.</p>

<p>The West Coast will experience a sharp increase in the frequency of floods as a result, which will also happen more frequently as a result of storms and heavy rainfall events that are made worse by human-caused climate change.</p>

<p>A shooting incident between two groups at a Sikh Gurudwara (Temple) in California has caused injuries to three. Reportedly, the incident was reported on Saturday (August 27) outside the Stockton Gurudwara Sahib.</p>

<p>According to news wire agency ANI, the clash was between two groups of Sikh Referendum 2020. The Stockton police arrived at the shooting scene around 6:40 PM ET and found three Sikh men injured. They all were quickly transferred to a hospital by the emergency responders.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Public information officer Joe Silva in a statement remarked that the incident occurred at an event around Sikh Temple Street. However, the officer said the shooting incident was not linked to the Gurudwara and did not happen on the property of the Gurudwara.</p>

<p>It is pertinent to note that the Gurudwara had held a weightlifting competition on the property before the incident. No scuffle had been reported while the event inside the Gurudwara was in motion.</p>

<p>However, another event that was happening outside the Gurudwara is being dubbed as the spot where the skirmish happened. The Gurudwara, in a Facebook post, stated that they had no connection with the incident.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"The weightlifting competition was done successfully without any altercation and harm to the Sangat. The altercation during this event happened outside the Gurdwara and had no link to the powerlifting event and the Gurdwara Sahib." the Gurudwara said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Stockton Police Department is currently investigating the occurrence and Stockton Gurdwara Sahib Committee will update you as soon as the investigation is completed. Gurdwara Sahib Stockton is committed to the safety of the Sangat.” it further added.</p>

A shooting incident between two groups at a Sikh Gurudwara (Temple) in California has caused injuries to three. Reportedly, the incident was reported on Saturday (August 27) outside the Stockton Gurudwara Sahib.

A shooting incident between two groups at a Sikh Gurudwara (Temple) in California has caused injuries to three. Reportedly, the incident was reported on Saturday (August 27) outside the Stockton Gurudwara Sahib. According to news wire agency ANI, the clash was between two groups of Sikh Referendum 2020. The Stockton police arrived at the shooting scene around 6:40 PM ET and found three Sikh men injured. They all were quickly transferred to a hospital by the emergency responders. Public information officer Joe Silva in a statement remarked that the incident occurred at an event around Sikh Temple Street. However, the officer said the shooting incident was not linked to the Gurudwara and did not happen on the property of the Gurudwara. Read more: US probes claims that Sikh migrants' turbans confiscated at US-Mexico border It is pertinent to note that the Gurudwara had held a weightlifting competition on the property before the incident. No scuffle had been reported while the event inside the Gurudwara was in motion. However, another event that was happening outside the Gurudwara is being dubbed as the spot where the skirmish happened. The Gurudwara, in a Facebook post, stated that they had no connection with the incident. "The weightlifting competition was done successfully without any altercation and harm to the Sangat. The altercation during this event happened outside the Gurdwara and had no link to the powerlifting event and the Gurdwara Sahib." the Gurudwara said. "Stockton Police Department is currently investigating the occurrence and Stockton Gurdwara Sahib Committee will update you as soon as the investigation is completed. Gurdwara Sahib Stockton is committed to the safety of the Sangat.” it further added. × Some unsubstantiated claims that WION cannot independently confirm have suggested that the scuffle was between two groups associated with Sikh Referendum 2020. The Referendum 2020 was organised by an outfit named Sikhs For Justice (SFJ). It is part of the Khalistani secessionist movement which seeks a separate homeland for the Sikhs in the state of Punjab in India. The organisation has been banned in India since July 2019 under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). Another US state that has now finalized plans to end sales of gasoline-powered cars is California. The Air Resources board has voted to adopt sweeping regulations to require all new cars sold to be electric or plug-in hybrid by 2035.

California: All new cars to be electric or plug-in hybrid by 2035

<p>The state of California will vote this week on plans requiring&nbsp;all new cars sold to be zero-emission vehicles by 2035, as the nation's largest economy propels a transition away from fossil fuels.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The California Air Resources Board (CARB) will discuss proposals this week that will formalise the goals established by Governor Gavin Newsom, and perhaps encourage other US states to follow suit.</p>

<p>The plans, which board member Daniel Sperling previously told CNN he was "99.9 per cent" sure would be enacted, also include gradual stages requiring that more than a third of cars sold in the state by 2026 and more than two-thirds by 2030 be zero-emission vehicles.</p>

<p>California has the largest market in the country with more than 40 million consumers. Because businesses cannot afford to lose out, regulations in the state have an impact on manufacturers' output plans across the nation and beyond. As a result, California can effectively establish national norms.</p>

<p>The probable decision on Thursday follows the signing last week of a climate law by US President Joe Biden, which allocates hundreds of millions of dollars in incentives for clean energy initiatives.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As the former president of the United States, Donald Trump pulled the country out of the Paris Climate Accord and undid what many environmentalists saw as already meagre progress in reducing the emissions of fossil fuels that cause global warming, Biden and his Democratic Party are scrambling to regain the climate policy ground they believe was lost under the previous administration.</p>

<p>Authorities from all over the world, particularly in Europe, have recently focused on the polluting vehicle industry.<br />

The two lovebirds were seen walking hand in hand outside Giorgio Baldi, which is a restaurant in Santa Monica, California. Dressed in a red dress and a black leather jacket, Lovato made her way out of the restaurant looking extremely happy. She completed the sultry look with a pair of fishnet stockings, black shades, matching black bag and boots. Jute$, on the other hand, kept it casual and donned a sleeveless jumper, a bucket hat, and a pair of black pants. Photos from the adorable couple outing are going viral on social media. Take a look!
