The BJP leader added that opposition parties were needlessly creating a controversy over it.

"The CAA is a humanitarian Act, it gives life to those minorities who came to our country. Nobody will be sent out from the 130 crores Indians. Congress and communists are just creating panic in the people," Yediyurappa told reporters here.

Stating that the Act was meant for giving citizenship and not taking it away from any person, he congratulated <a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-news/prime-minister-modi-urges-people-to-take-up-task-to-uplift-poor-270835">Prime Minister Narendra Modi</a> and <a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-news/amit-shah-lauds-crpf-as-bravest-force-in-the-world-270873">Home Minister Amit Shah</a> for taking this step.

"No one was scared when the discussion on the CAA was underway in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. The CAA gives citizenship, it will not snatch the citizenship of anyone. I congratulate our Prime Minister and Home Minister for taking such a bold decision," Yediyurappa said.

"Nobody has applied for citizenship in Bangladesh and Pakistan. On the other hand, many have applied for citizenship in India and our government has already given citizenship to more than 600 people," he added.

Earlier amid <a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-news/no-border-dispute-between-karnataka-and-maharashtra-bjp-leader-basavaraj-ingin-271062">tension between Karnataka and neighbouring Maharashtra</a> over the border issue with protests on both sides, Yediyurappa had on Monday urged people of the state to maintain peace stating that 'not a single piece of land' would be given away.

When asked about the details particular instances, CRPF official refused to divulge the details claiming it "secret in nature" but confirmed that in last one month CRPF has written to Priyanka Gandhi Vadra multiple times. "In one such instance she made an unscheduled tour to Bijnor," a CRPF official claimed.

"Tour programme of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Z+ Category ASL Central Category (CRPF Protectee) to visit Lucknow on 27/28-12-2019 was received and communicated to state authorities. On December 28, 2019 the only programme indicated was to visit PCC office for attending Congress foundation function for which ASL had been conducted," CRPF clarified on Monday.

"On December 28, Abhay Mishra, CO Hazratganj at around 0800hrs visited the place of stay to enquire about the detailed programme of the day of the protectee which was not communicated by the personal staff. There was no breach in security by the official. "The lawyers, the Bar Associations, State Bar Councils, the students' Associations of National Law Universities and all the law colleges should come forward, take active and positive steps to ensure that law and order is maintained throughout the country," the statement read.&nbsp;

"They should try to convince the people and the common-man to enhance the feelings of brotherhood in the society. Anyone involved in the acts of violence should be brought to the notice of Administration," the statement added.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday addressed a rally át Delhi's Ramlila Maidan and said that the new citizenship law will benefit the "marginalised" and that the country's citizens don't need to worry.

The prime minister urged the citizens not to believe the rumour mongers.

Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari on Sunday said that the Citizenship Amendment Act is not against any Indian Muslim and that the purpose of the new law is only to grant citizenship to persecuted religious minorities of three neighbouring nations, news agency ANI reported.

He appealed to the people of the Muslim community to "see through this misinformation campaign of Congress."

The announcement comes after a meeting of senior BJP leaders with the party's working president JP Nadda over the newly amended law, which grants citizenship to refugees of Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh, who arrived in India until December 31, 2014.

Police officials said 63 people were booked and 102 arrested for posting and spreading rumours and misinformation on social media related to the CAA.

"Over 14,100 posts on social media having fake news and misinformation were tacked and action was taken," they said.

As many as 218 people were arrested in Lucknow in connection with violence during anti-CAA protests, according to DGP OP Singh.Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has urged people not to take the law into their hands.

15 dead in Citizenship Amendment Act protests in UP, 705 arrested

A Delhi court on Saturday remanded 15 accused, who were arrested in connection with the violence which had erupted in Daryaganj area, to two-days judicial custody.

The court refused to hear their bail petition and asked their counsel to seek it from the court of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM).

After his speech, a mob of "thousands" started gathering between the Jama Masjid and the Delhi Gate, the police said as reported by news agency ANI.&nbsp;

A case has been registered against Azad under Sections 147 (punishment for rioting), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 149 (unlawful assembly), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public), 120B (criminal conspiracy) and other relevant sections of the IPC.&nbsp;

On Friday, Azad held a mass march at Delhi Jama Masjid area in protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act. The national capital's Old Delhi area yesterday witnessed mass protests wherein the police had to resort to using water cannons to curb the agitation. In the FIR, the complainant, Daryaganj SHO Rakesh Kumar Sharma, said that the Bhim Army chief instigated a mob of around four thousand people outside the Jama Masjid during the Friday prayer. "The Delhi Police tried to stop the mob at the Delhi Gate through barricading and asked the protesters to retreat. Around 6 pm, around eight thousand people gathered outside the DCP office, Central district and Darya Ganj," the FIR against Azad read. A case has been registered against Azad under Sections 147 (punishment for rioting), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 149 (unlawful assembly), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public), 120B (criminal conspiracy) and other relevant sections of the IPC.

At the Jantar Mantar, young protestors offered red roses to police personnel, saying that even if they were lathi-charged, their message would be -- "Love in return for hatred".

Students of Jamia Millia Islamia carried out a long march to protest against the new citizenship law and offered roses to police personnel, who were deployed for security. While offering roses to personnel, they chanted slogans, "Dilli Police Baat Karo, Aao Humare Saath Chalo" (Delhi Police, talk to us. Come along and walk with us).

The slogans reassured that students were seeking non-violent engagement, "Hum Yuvaa Hai Baat Karenga/Naki Ghusaa Laat Karenge (We are the youths, who just want to talk. We aren't here to punch or kick)."

In several parts of the country, many protesters were seen attempting to engage with the police.

Locals offered roses to the police in Bhopal, thanking them to provide security during their peaceful protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act and the NRC.

In a unique way to convince protestors at Town Hall to leave the place and end their protest, DCP of Bengaluru (Central), Chetan Singh Rathore on Thursday sang the national anthem over the public address system, making all protestor rise up from their place.

Shortly after the national anthem commenced, the people protesting over the CAA left the place without any argument.

The CAA seeks to grant citizenship to Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Parsis, Buddhists and Christians fleeing religious persecution from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh and came to India on or before December 31, 2014.&nbsp;
